Calvin Harris ‘liked how innocent Taylor was’ but he lost interest in her

FFN_RIJ_IHEART_SET1_040316_52012379

As we learned last night, the dream is dead, the golden couple is no more, fairy tales aren’t real and Taylor Swift & Calvin Harris are OVER. While People Mag and Us Weekly got confirmations of the split with barely any specifics, E! News got the dirty very early on. E! confirmed that Calvin/Adam dumped Taylor and that she was and is really upset about it. Us Weekly then confirmed the same thing. And now E! has more dirt:

There wasn’t any shady business that led to the breakup.

“Adam really liked Taylor, she was not the type of girl he ever dates and he liked that. He liked how innocent Taylor was and that she had a good caring heart. Taylor’s heart was more in it then he was. He started to lose interest over the past few months, but really tried to not just break up,” a source tells E! News. “They were just not very compatible in different areas in their relationship. The touring and traveling didn’t help. It seemed like they were more friends than lovers,” the insider added.

“Taylor and Adam had very different group of friends,” the source noted, and reassured that Harris “100 percent did not cheat. There were no other women involved with Adam. He did not cheat on her at all. Just not a good match.” Another source also reaffirms that “no one cheated. There was no drama.”

An insider close to Swift tells E! News, “She was in Nashville with her family and they have been helping her through the break up.”

The source continues, “Taylor was really disappointed in Calvin and felt like he wasn’t there for her. The relationship wasn’t progressing the way she wanted it to. She felt like he wasn’t taking it seriously enough and wouldn’t come through for her when she needed him most. She felt down and like her needs weren’t being met. She doesn’t want to get back together.”

“This all happened last week,” a source told E! News when we reported the split. “Taylor and Adam had no big blowout fight, but the romance just was not there anymore for them. Adam is the one that ended it. It was all done in a very mature fashion. Taylor is pretty upset but they are still in communication. Taylor was there for Adam with his accident and supportive.”

[From E! News]

I’m sort of annoyed on Taylor’s behalf with this: “He liked how innocent Taylor was… Taylor’s heart was more in it then he was.” I feel like sources are painting Taylor as some innocent, virginal girl who got too clingy for the big stud. Was that really their dynamic? Here’s what I do buy, and I’ve seen this subtext in much of the coverage: Taylor was thinking about marriage. She wanted Calvin to propose. Not that she was giving him ultimatums about proposing, but she was very much thinking about marrying her boyfriend of 15 months, which… is not surprising? I mean, after 15 months together, a lot of people would think about the next step. And I think Calvin broke it off with her because he didn’t want to propose.

This breakup has been reminding me of the other super-serious relationship in Taylor Swift’s past, her three-month thing with Jake Gyllenhaal in the fall and winter of 2010. When Jake dumped Taylor – reportedly, he dumped her over the phone – she went a little bit crazy. She was basically calling up Us Weekly to provide extensive details on just how badly Jake had screwed her over and messed with her head. And it didn’t end there – she even confronted Jake at the Vanity Fair Oscar party several months after he dumped her. My gut is saying that there will be a lot of drama in the weeks and months to come.

Oh this is going to be good – gossipwise. Where’s my popcorn?

    • Mia V. says:

Her next album will be eletronic with all the producers who compete with Calvin, let’s sit and wait.

    • Ellie says:

Yeah I always suspected there was some type of contract involved here, but I think if that were the case she would have specified that she got to appear to be the dumper and not the dumpee when things ended. The fact that she got dumped again makes me believe they were real more than anything else that happened during their relationship — and that makes me think things are gonna get crazy. And I sorta can’t wait.

    • Gg says:

He’s totally been cheating the whole time with randoms on tour, may even have a regular in Vegas.
“Innocent” is guy code for doormat.
I hope Taylor gets smart and stops chasing guys and learns how to play for keeps by letting guys really pursue her, not he other way around.
I think he finally realized she was thinking wedding bells and he started getting bored, so voila “timing was all wrong”!

      • kanyekardashian says:

She didn’t pursue him, Miss Know It All. They were fixed up by a friend.

      • Miss Melissa says:

I buy this. Only because he was always in Vegas and I’ve never heard about her being there with him. If she was, it was nowhere near as much.

  2. Size Does Matter says:

“She was too boring for him.”

    • LB says:

Basically. I’m not even surprised. I’m not trying to be a bitch but she doesn’t seem interested in much beyond herself and her image. Although most celebrities are the same in this regard, so he may be as well.

  3. HH says:

    Hmmm…. That wording… NOPE.

ETA: I’m enjoying how both camps keep saying it was mutual, “no drama” decision, while also attempting to drop little tidbits of shade.

  4. Bey says:

“The touring and traveling didn’t help.”
maybe they spend time together for the first time and thought “what the heck?”

but all in all i still dont buy it was real. Taylor and Calvin both profited. now Calvin is the super stud who would break up with americas sweetheart and Taylor is the all american angel with bolt on… ahem… wings. looks good for both.

    • C says:

      +100000

    • sherry says:

I agree. I thought something shady was going on with his accident. I can’t remember why I thought this, but when it was first reported I thought, “He had someone else (a woman) with him when that accident happened and didn’t want it reported in the news because it would mess up the ‘Taylor and Calvin 4Ever’ image they were putting out there.” I think it’s because they said he was a passenger in an SUV, but they never mentioned who was driving that SUV.

      It was just odd.

      • Erinn says:

I thought that part was weird too – it was really careful wording.

Not that all male and female friends are banging or anything. But I thought the really careful wording was interesting at the time.

      • Annetommy says:

I assumed he crashed bcause he was distraught and distracted by thoughts about Taylor and Tom’s dancing….

    • Michelle says:

Plus she gets to be the victim again. Another man wronged her.

  5. Lex says:

I’m shocked that Taylor’s team isn’t giving out more details to contradict these sources. This relationship was produced so she could look older and more mature, and it’s becoming the same narrative as her past breakups. I hope the crazy comes out.

    • Locke Lamora says:

Contradict what? Sweet innocent Taylor gets her heart broken? That’s her usual narrative.

      • Lex says:

No, I thought it would say that she broke up with him. Every relationship she has, she has been the one broken up with. And she’s always looked clingy and too attached. This has been such an obvious PR relationship, I was so sure when they broke up it would be her team that said she dumped him. People are already talking about her being the dumped again.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Older and mature doesn’t sell her albums though. She’s still firmly in the pre-teen to teen circuit when it comes to financial boon so I imagine she’ll use this to help her career.

    • Mulligan says:

She’s keeping details under wraps because she hasn’t thought of what narrative / version of this she wants to play out in her next album. Once she thinks it through and pinpoints the best way it can benefit her, she’ll talk. Probably won’t be the truth, though.

  6. ReineDidon says:

So he dumps her in private, plus he needs to call the press and confirm that HE dumped HER bc he lost interest in her.

    What a douche !

    • iGotNothin says:

I’m pretty sure she’s leaking most of this stuff. Especially since the “source” keeps reiterating that he did not cheat. Like it makes Taylor look unfit to love or something. It reads really wrong to me.

    • LB says:

I think if he is leaking it, he’s doing the right thing for him. Control the narrative before Taylor’s team gets to.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Come on, dudes gonna have 18 songs and 3 magazine interviews written about him from her in the next 6 months. Can’t fault him for trying to stop the crazy train before it jumps the tracks.

    • Val says:

It does seem like things are adding up to him being a douche.

    • Ciria says:

Agreed. That’s pretty douchey. It’s always better when the parties stay mum about personal stuff (side-eyeing Amber Heard and Johnny Depp).

STFU. Nobody wants to hear it.

When someone badmouths/paints their ex in a bad light, publicly, I always find it’s so tacky/tasteless.

Taylor – keep dating. You are young, rich and a superstar. If I were her I would never settle down. Or just keep a string of lovers in every city til I felt ready to settle down.

  7. Talie says:

So it went from no drama last night to minimal drama this morning. She is going to go HAM on him.

  8. CidySmiley says:

Oh my lol what drama. I feel like both of them are really dramatic people, so this is going to be beautiful. Taylor does the same shtick “I was good and innocent and perfect and they tarnished me!”
    Goody.

  9. Little Darling says:

I feel bad for her with this one, I really do. And I don’t fault her for going off the rails a little, it was a substantial amount of time to spend with someone to feel super let down that it ended. With the other relationships it always seems like she went bunny boiler without warrant, like three months and you’re writing 50 songs about it?

Calvin was, is and will continue to be a grade A troll who puts out decent dance music. Poseur is also a good word for him. People who 180 their image the way that he did strike me as too superficial and concerned with how they’re seen.

Dating HER actually made him more visible in the mainstream, he should remember that.

Also, he likes his women waaaaaay grittier than she ever could dream to be.

    • kibbles says:

I never thought I’d say this but I feel bad for her as well. I could have told her during the first month of their relationship that Calvin Harris is NOT the type of guy to settle down right now at the height of his fame. Given his douche-like persona and attitude, Calvin thought it would be fun to date a world-famous pop star like Taylor, bang her for a bit, and move onto the next pop star. She definitely was expecting more from the relationship, not that there is anything wrong with that. I’m an old-fashioned girl as well and would have expected to take the relationship to the next stage after 15 months if it felt right. She’s probably hurt and broken-hearted over this, so I don’t blame her if she writes some songs based on this relationship. That’s her thing and this was the most significant relationship of her life thus far. She’s only human.

    • Abby says:

      Totally agree on all counts.

      Popcorn at the ready.

  10. Unmade_bed says:

He seems even more boring than Taylor. I don’t know anything about him, but his features blend into the background and he has a flesh-colored beard.

    • Selena says:

      Lol! Too true.

    • Ciria says:

LOL “flesh-colored beard” – so funny. And I agree – he’s like oatmeal. At least she has a fun group of friends that she hangs with and seems to be a girl’s girl. He just bores me to tears.

    • Almondjoy says:

      💀💀💀

    • Original T.C. says:

I’ve always thought they look like brother and sister. But yes he has the good looking bland features that teenage girls like. He’s looks appeal to Swifty’s fan base.

  11. Lynnie says:

So how long should a couple date before proposing seems like a good idea? 15 months sounds a little short to me, and I always thought the average was three years or something.

I’ve been seeing comments that Taylor and Tom should be a thing? I get she’s into him, but is he into her?

Other than that this breakup is not very surprising to me. I don’t think Taylor will do anything crazy though which is slightly disappointing lol.

    • WTW says:

I think the average is three years, but in some circles, especially Christian ones, people propose after like a year. I was not thinking about getting married after a year of dating my husband, but after the second year, I certainly did. He proposed a little under three years, and we got married less than three months later. Because we were involved in church and knew a lot of Christians, it felt like a long time. His Christian sister, for example, got engaged after 10 months and at 28 had never dated anyone previously. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

    • Ciria says:

Every relationship is different. Some people get engaged a few months in, some after a year, some for many years. All individual.

  12. Lara K says:

Taylor tries too hard to play two roles – the cool clique-y mean girl with jet set lifestyle , and the old fashioned romantic. It bites her in the butt in her personal life.

She’ll just be doing the same thing next year with someone new.

  13. Jade says:

I think he was bored and did not intend to stay. I felt like Swift was just another target for him, something different from just a model. As for his straying…hmmmm….didn’t a Celebitch post that he tried to pick up her gf?

  14. mp says:

Oh god please, let there be drama! But no DV, that’s were all the fun ends.

  15. anon says:

Lol innocent my a**. Like are we still pretending this girl is some innocent flower in 2016? She is calculating and a shrewd businesswoman.

    • helena says:

absolutely. there’s nothing innocent about her. and that’s not a bad thing. she’s very very smart. so, this is bullshit. also, the thing about her being boring…nope. he’s far more boring than she is. there is NOTHING interesting about him.also, people who say bad things about her because she writes about boyfriends….that’s LITERALLY what every songwriter does.

  16. Be prepared for her next album, with bagpipes playing in the background!

  17. Mira says:

He dated Rita Ora before Swifty, so i could buy that Swifty came across as innocent and virginal in his mind.

    • tracking says:

+1 And she seems somewhat old-fashioned (for her age) and more of a homebody. It doesn’t surprise me that this young guy, who likes the scene, doesn’t want to settle down.

    • WTW says:

Why does Rita Ora have such a bad reputation? Okay, so apparently she sleeps with a lot of people, according to a disgruntled ex. I still don’t think that Taylor is way less innocent than her. Taylor seems very cool and calculating, but because she’s not promiscuous (even though she’s been accused of sleeping around just like Rita) she’s “innocent.” So, someone’s sexual history is the only determinant of whether they’re innocent or not? All other characteristics are irrelevant. Isn’t that slut shaming?

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

You’d have to ask Adam but after having an ex rather publicly get exposed as a repeated cheater I could see how he’d go hard left in the other direction for someone who at least has the appearance of being innocent.

      • Mira says:

        @WTW
I hope you didn’t mean that i was slut shaming. That wasn’t my intention.
Its not me who is calling Taylor innocent or virginal i am taking it from this article and specifically said ” in his mind”! The quotes are “she is not the type of girl he usually dates”, “she was so innocent” they were more like friends”, it seems to point to a lack of sexual chemistry ( from his side at least)
I am not saying Ora is a bad person or a slut because she is supposedly more sexually active.

      • BFDL says:

Rita has a bad reputation because she’s callous. She DOES sleep around but not in a carefree way. There are usually strings attached but none of it has done much for her career.

She also cheats on all of her boyfriends. I can see why Calvin wouldn’t be interested in another bad girl.

  18. grabbyhands says:

“He liked how innocent Taylor was…”

Translation-she had more clout and power and would not have been as easy to use as Rita Ora.

While I’m sure there will be much more passive aggressive dirt coming from her camp soon, he seems like a giant douchebag. I’m not team Taylor, but I have no doubt she is well rid of him.

  19. QQ says:

And so it begins!! are we really talking about HIS sources are leaking that “she was too good and innocent for him” LMMFAO

    • dana says:

Yeah i caught that too. lol
thing with her is – her relationships as with everything else always presented wrapped up in a pretty bow that to me reads – LIESSSS. lol Not that they didn’t date but the first pics were we are soooo in love but you just met. So chill. Its too orchestrated. Then the holiday vacation pics or award show support… its too orchestrated like this break up to be this perfect. And prob why he broke camp. He was a good candidate, thanks for playing…. see ya next time. Who’s up next?

  20. Nancy says:

He lied to me he cried to me he had his friends spy on me and now you can’t have me back, I’m much too strong for that, you were so wrong, goodbye and so long, I have to write another broken heart song. TS

  21. MSat says:

I hope he understands that he isn’t going to do any better. His entire image is more manufactured than hers is. He’s a DJ, for crying out loud. Is his 15 minutes almost up?

    • BFDL says:

Exactly. I think he probably missed all of the kinky women who would bark like a dog and hop on one foot for him. He actually had to respect Taylor.

    • Helonearth says:

You may not like him but he is not just a DJ.

He is a record producer, singer, songwriter, remixer and has his own record label.

He is well respected in the industry and will be around a lot longer than 15 minutes.

  22. Mike says:

God, she has the worst implants I have ever seen that didn’t belong to a porn star.

  23. Name says:

The real story is that they broke up after the massage parlor photo went public. Everything after that was damage control because she didn’t want people to know that dirty detail and did not want to be associated with it.
Remember when her tour ended and they vacationed around New Zealand in a very exclusive, private area with the people who worked on the tour and DJ Starbucks came to visit for her birthday? That was part of damage control and an agreement was made that if he played her game she wouldn’t drag his dork ass through the “I wrote a break up song about you” mud.

Her people are some of the best in the industry. They know she can’t write a break up song or album about this because we’ve already deeply made fun of her for it, and it would go against the shiny happy white feminist Lenny newsletter reading NYC ambassador image she paid good money to craft over the last 2 years.

My favorite DJ is DJ Shuffle Button on Spotify.

  24. Badgerette says:

“There were no other women involved with Adam”

Anyone else catch that shade? Were Taylor’s women or squad involved?

  25. Nic919 says:

Isn’t there a blind that she was bearding for him? This whole macho crap certainly seems to confirm that.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Literally every boyfriend she’s had there’s been rumors they’re gay and she’s just bearding. After a while it all gets too predictable.

  26. Cindy says:

He is so unattractive. I mean really physically unattractive. What am I missing. Not just unattractive , but actually kinda icky looking. The beard that matches his pasty face, watery eyes, no real facial structure….ewwww. Say what you will about Swifty but she is attractive. How is he dumping her? How did he even last a day? Also, how old is he? He looks 45. And he has this weird thing where I keep thinking he’s bald when I’m not looking at him. He also looks like a long lost Duggar to me. Not to open that old wound or anything, but doesn’t he look like one of those ” fience’s” one of those poor girls would bring home to Billy bob ?

  27. InvaderTak says:

Why does it not surprise me that she went for a guy who is into the madonna/wh0re thing?

  28. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

You know what the funniest part of all this is?

The man gave her an OLIVE TREE a month or so ago as a gift.

If that isn’t a “Please don’t write psychotic teeny bopper songs about our future break up” metaphor…ha.

  29. CarolinaBelle says:

Lol at “innocent.” Didn’t she date an underage or barely legal Kennedy son a few years ago?

    • Christin says:

She did. Supposedly had her private jet ready to whisk him away from school and his father was not thrilled.

  30. sapphire says:

Am not surprised at all….saw it coming all along

  31. Scary Spice says:

After Rita Ora, Taylor is innocent in comparison. I don’t have an issue with this dynamic. He was and is a huge DJ. That scene is the party crowd.

  32. ell says:

i like taylor, i wasn’t convinced by him because i remember the trick he pulled on rita ora and the songs they wrote together before they split up, he was so unprofessional. she’s likely better off without him tbh, by the sound of this article.

that said, i wish people would stop giving her a hard time for taking inspiration from her real life for her songs, all singers/songwriters do, why is she different??

    • dana says:

Only because she uses her songs to shame people… so Taylor then has to be willing to hear what the public has to say about her part in it. If you write a song demeaning your ex, then be willing to hear someone ask what about your issues Taylor. This is a two way street. Her songs about people are fairly mean and juvenile plus invite everyone in her business. Then she gets upset for the judgment she herself invited in.

    • Lisatorner says:

I totally agree Ell I really don’t understand the extent of the Swift hate… She is talented, writes her own music, and is actually a good role model for younger kids, her music is appropriate for all ages, she has never been papped stumbling out of a bar, she is polite and treats her fans and other human beings well, as far as I can tell.
I get that people find her ‘bland’ or grating or don’t get why she’s popular, but I don’t understand how that translates into the type of hate she gets. At least she DOES something with her life and she takes pride in it and she takes ownership of her life and her songs. At least SHE is the one writing the songs that so many people take offence to.
To me it’s people like the Kardashians who deserve that amount of criticism because to me not only are they are promoting “looks and material wealth above all” ,but they have figured out how to sell this lifestyle to make even more money from people who have far less to begin with.
To me it is a negative sum what they have to offer society and that deserves critique and reflection on a large scale, Swift seems so harmless compared to that.
I don’t know which interview, article or song set off in people’s minds that Taylor Swift was ‘The Artist who writes about her boyfriends in her music’ or why she has been stuck with that label over anyone else.. I would say that Every songwriter male or female writes songs about their relationships, she somehow got this label like she does it more often or there’s something worse about the way she does it, neither of which I think is true.
I’m not even a Taylor swift fan, but I don’t understand the passion with which people despise her.
Harris is a douche, she is the winner in this even if she doesn’t know it yet.

      • Susan says:

Agree with everything you said. She’s one of the rare pop stars/Hollywood people I don’t worry about my daughter loving/emulating.

  33. holly hobby says:

Cue her next you did me wrong song…

  34. Cee says:

Marriage after 15 months together? What? And with so much touring in between?
After 15 months of dating full time I would consider moving in together and sharing bills and utilities, testing how compatible we really are, but marriage? No. 15 months is a short time. She’s not 15 years old.

    • BFDL says:

When did she say she wanted to get married? No snark, I’ve just never heard it.

I would hope she wouldn’t want to marry someone like him but then she dated someone like him, so…

Taylor needs to be single for a year or so (has she ever gone that long) and stay celibate or just do the nasty with Tom every now and then to keep her sanity.

I can see her marrying an actor or a director. I don’t see her with anyone in the music industry.

  35. ChimChimsMom says:

I smell rabbit on the stove.

  36. Giddy says:

Send out the Bat Signal for Eddie! Taylor has all the money he could ever dream of, and he’s got the gigilo angle down: look adoring for the paps and Instagram, go on vacations to the beach, provide cute kids for pictures. You know that for Taylor’s lifestyle Eddie would really make an effort to be charming. And even though I don’t like him, even I recognize that he’s better looking than Calvin. And Taylor would squash Leann like a bug if she tried to sue, etc. Perfect!!!

  37. dana says:

IMO i was never sold on this relash. It came out of nowhere after her “I don’t need a man I have a girl squad, squad” drama. Then it was instantly like “serious coupledom” even the first month or two in. There are some women who need dating classes. Taylor reminds me of the perfect candidate. Nice girl, strong and driven… but don’t know how to chill, give it time, ease in… read the signs of ummm hes not that into me like I’m into him. She’s planning weddings and hes planning breakups. 15mos for this feels right. Like a nice boy you dated and then you moved on to someone who was into you girl. But Taylor keeps making the same mistakes with commitment. Also – her speech at the grammys or whatever award show… “I like to thank my very supportive boyfriend.” – THIS made me cringe. Girl, you haven’t known him long enough for the marriage speech from the stage. Let him earn that credibility and validity. To me, she does it to show everyone else and genuinely knows its false. Relationships aren’t music contracts. You can’t blame Katy Perry for this too. This may be something the two of them actually bond over. Stop rushing in.

    • BFDL says:

How is Katy involved? I hope she doesn’t say anything. She has her own problems with men.

  38. Lurker says:

GUYS. One of the articles linked above (calling up US Weekly) says that Taylor will be in London for a few months filling Les Miserables – she’s playing Eponine.

Was this a thing?! I had no idea!

Glad she didn’t, mind you, she’s a terrible actress.

    • Bey says:

enough time to make babies with HiddlesTom!

edit: ugh sorry i misunderstood that it was referring to years ago.

  39. BFDL says:

Who does this? Celebrities are so ridiculous with their need to have their sources (aka weed hook ups and side chicks) spill everything.

With that said, any guy who dates Rita Ora is not really looking for Suzy Homemaker.

Besides, he’s a DJ and yeah I’m stereotyping but she should already know what that’s about.

He should be sending her a muffin basket because if it weren’t for her I wouldn’t know who he is (I’d heard about what he did to Rita but I wasn’t even interested enough to Google his face). You dumped Taylor Swift and gave her two albums worth of material. Congrats.

  40. TRK says:

Taylor is “innocent” but has porn star bolt-ons.

    I don’t believe she’s innocent at all.

  41. Donna Martin says:

I agree she prob wanted marriage and I think totally normal at this stage! I am not a fan of hers but she is a savvy business woman and very successful. I think this guy was too plain for her, I don’t think he was her equal in many ways. She can do better.

  42. SunnyD says:

I see him as your classic geek (one of the most dramatic celeb transformations I’ve seen) who got cool and buff and to some people, hot. He’s having his cake and eating it and dating one of the most famous women on the planet isn’t going to stop him. I’m enjoying the spin from both parties in that statement.
