Chloe Moretz on her Kim Kardashian beef: Kim ‘didn’t deserve my attention’

FFN_CHP_TheInfiltrator_090316_52162814

Chloe Moretz has been trying to beef with Kim Kardashian for months now. Chloe was one of the celebrities who decided to body-police Kim when Kim dared to post a half-naked photo of herself on social media. Chloe’s argument was that Kim shouldn’t post naked photos of herself because of feminism, and Chloe seemed to think that she alone could and should personally approve of which half-naked photos should be posted online (especially if they were her own half-naked photos) and what kind of “feminism” was allowed. While Kim gave Chloe some attention initially, Kim hasn’t said anything about Chloe since the first body-policing tweet-storm. Chloe, on the other hand, has been getting questions about Kim and her own tweets in interviews for months, and each time Chloe talks about it, she reminds me more of a young Lena Dunham. So it happened again – Chloe was in Deauville over the weekend, and she spoke to The Hollywood Reporter. Some highlights:

She’s taking a break: After wrapping back-to-back the thriller November Criminals and the intense psychological drama Brain on Fire, the actress “had a ‘Come to Jesus’ moment” and dropped out of all her future film projects. Moretz said the pace of several movies a year was causing her to lose sight of why she started acting and instead focus on a film’s box office. “So I pulled the plug on all my movies because I want to reassess who I am and find myself within my roles again,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m realizing that I can slow down.”

The platform she’s been given: Dealing with the tabloid speculation about her personal life “is hard, and the paparazzi are hard,” she said, but she’s realized that she can’t focus on the difficulties of being in the spotlight when she’s been given a platform to talk about issues that she cares about like body positivity for girls and bringing the arts back into the U.S. education system. “I realized if I stop talking about the negativity then it can’t thrive. And that’s something I came to very, very recently,” she laughed, noting she has the ear of the presidential nominee.

Her “feud” with Kim Kardashian: “I think I gave my attention to people that didn’t deserve my attention. So in some ways I think I regret giving them the attention, [though] I don’t regret what I said. But also I realized that being the most opinionated and loud person in the room is not always the most impactful. I learned that from Hillary. ‘It’s great to be feisty,’ those were her exact words. But sometimes the smartest way to get into the psyche of people is to be the quietest person in the room. Let everyone else bicker and throw their words around and then you come in with the quiet voice and that will be the most impactful.”

[From THR]

So in one breath she’s claiming that she’ll take time off to speak about the issue of body positivity, and in the next breath she’s acting holier-than-thou about a Twitter beef she started when she body-policed Kim Kardashian (which she still “doesn’t regret,” mind you). She’s pretty much saying that Kim is beneath her and she shouldn’t even pay attention to women like her. Because body positivity and feminism! The smug on this one irritates me, I’ll admit it. I wish Chloe wasn’t the face of Hillary Clinton’s teen outreach or whatever.

    Have a seat. Thanks

    • ronaldinhio says:

This. I would have words for this child if she came to chide me

      • springingforward says:

She has her head on straight and I like her.
I can’t wait until the shifty grifter Kardashians are old news; this young actress sees the attention-whoring family for what they are.

  2. C says:

She is so full of herself….

  3. Clare says:

Didn’t deserve your attention? then why did you engage? and why do you KEEP engaging and commenting?

This kid is just as thirsty as the K’s. At least those witches own it.

    • justme says:

No one is as thirsty as America’s Trash Family. NO ONE. She’s a kid and in hindsight she realized she shouldn’t have bothered. I don’t see her posting naked selfies or doing things to get attention (e.g., Ariel Winter)

    • Wiffie says:

Wording fail for Chloe, possibly. Very small differences make ALL the difference, here.

“She didn’t deserve that kind of attention” means Chloe feels she was out of line.

“She didn’t deserve my attention” means Chloe thinks Kim should be happy she knows who she is.

If she meant, “I don’t regret what I said, but Kim didn’t really deserve it”, she REALLY worded it wrong. Who knows, maybe she did mean it the way she said it.

  4. Ivy says:

So if she really dropped all of her upcoming film projects….that means now she actually won’t play Ariel in the upcoming remake of the little mermaid YAY!!!!!

  5. Truthful says:

I give her a pass , she is just 19 , and I remember being there not so long where you have this crazy idea that since now you’re are (a brand new) adult and so you have everything figured out way much better than the others…or at least you think you have things figured out , its such a black and white age… so no i give her a pass…

    • justme says:

As do I. She’s a kid. Kimbocile is a 35 year old mother of two who apparently doesn’t know better.

      • perplexed says:

Did Kim comment on her? I think Khloe K did, but Kim never seemed to say much about Chloe’s tweeting.

      • Jwoolman says:

Didn’t Khloe K post naked pics of someone she implied was Chloe who turned out not actually to be Chloe? Khloe didn’t just “mention” this kid if so, she went on full-throttle attack. Chloe’s original remarks were not awful. A lot of people criticized Kim for the endless naked selfies.

    • Miffy says:

Oh if only I knew as much now as I did when I was an obnoxious teenager! Sigh! I know that arrogance, thankfully no one was watching to see how much of an ass I was. Sooo, let’s put it down to that. God love ya, ya-wannabe-Beckham!

  6. Lora says:

Ahh to be that young and dumb again…

  7. Micki says:

Ha, a few years ago noone would attach her name to any Kardashian. And now it’s become an instrument of self-promotion.

  8. anonymous says:

The Kardashian don’t deserve anyone attention !

  9. Locke Lamora says:

I really really don’t like her.

    • detritus says:

I really, really agree. And I forgive a lot of shittiness from teens.

The whole ‘I am arbiter of what is righteous and good’ schtick is ridiculous from anyone, let alone a hypocritical 19 year old.

I think this is what happens when you let smart people be assholes, or encourage them to be jerks because its funny or sassy or whatever. and it seems to have a high comorbidity with the ‘cool girl’ thing.

So sure Chloe, you can say all the big words with the right jargon, but when it comes down to it, you are a mean girl dressed in feminist clothing.

  10. Goldie says:

Well, after Khloe tried to publicly humiliate Chloe by posting that graphic photo of a young woman ( whom she mistakenly thought was Moretz), I don’t blame her for saying that the K’s don’t deserve her attention. Notice how she says that she regrets giving “them” attention, so I think she’s referring to the family, not just Kim.

    • Felice. says:

      That beach photo wasn’t her?

Still Chloe has to be careful. That family has no problem with trying to humiliate her.

ETA: omg I see now. She edited a photo to make it look like Chloe. She could sue for that.

    • Cali says:

Yep, I remember Khloe doing that. The Kardashians are older women arguing and being nasty with young girls (Chloe, Taylor). They should be embarrassed. But since they have zero shame, they aren’t the least bit embarrassed.

      • Lauren says:

What khloe did was beyond nasty and I agree that her and Kim should be more mature about everything, but Taylor got her coming. Taylor lied and spoke bs about Kanye and Kim was completely within her rights to call on her bs.

      • paranormalgirl says:

Taylor’s not a young girl anymore.

      • Pleaseicu says:

Taylor is going to be 27 in a couple months. How is she a young girl?

      • Beer&Crumpets says:

Agreed. And I think grown folks should get to do what they want, but Kim Kardashian’s right to show her ass is not the hill *I* want to die on. I think the Kardashian clan is way more annoying than should be legal.

    • perplexed says:

      That’s a good point.

    • Tiffany :) says:

Yeah, that was a REALLY tacky and horrible move by Khloe. It is one thing to disagree with someone. It is another to try and share “gotcha” nude photos of them in the search for revenge. The fact that Khloe sent out nude photos of a totally innocent person young is beyond the pale.

Chloe can make me eye roll, but she has never shown the viciousness that the Kardashians do.

  11. Anna says:

I’m not body policing anyone, but you are forced to view pics of Kim without even clicking on the ‘story’ unless you don’t look at the Internet. Because Kim has whatever personality issues that make her a level10 attention seeker with nothing to say, and because she won’t rest until the entire world experience the site of her vulva, I would simply ask why she doesn’t enter the adult film industry and get it over with? I have zero respect for her deceit and manipulation and think she’s a one note dumbbell.

    • Dolkite says:

I have the feeling Kim would be furious if she overheard someone ask why she was famous and someone else saying, “Well, she made a sex tape awhile ago, and since then, she’s had her own show where they film her shopping for clothes.”

      • sunny says:

Haha Dolkite, it’s the truth though! But we live in a time where truth is too mean or hurts feelings so we have to live with and assent to the most egregious lies. Crazy!

    • ygsf says:

      well said!

    • kellzbellz says:

      Thank you!!!!!

  12. Dirty Martini says:

Meh. She’s young and naive. But I’m down with who she shades and why. Glad she now gets giving them no attention pains them more. Now hush about it, child.

  13. sunny says:

She’s smarmy and irritating and utterly unlikable so she’s absolutely perfect for Hillary’s campaign. I don’t know how she’s famous, she has the most asymmetrical face I’ve seen and a wonky eye. Not trying to body or face shame her but simply pointing out that i find her very odd looking. Maybe she’s talented, I wouldn’t know. Nobody is perfect looking nor should they be but you’d think someone so determined to play as little Ms Feminist would behave differently. But hey jmo who cares am I right?

    • perplexed says:

If I saw her in real life I would most likely think she was pretty enough, but onscreen I do find her features a bit distracting — if her acting were better, I might not be so distracted.

    • Tiffany :) says:

“Not trying to body or face shame”

Except you ARE trying to face shame.

      • sunny says:

Pointing out factual information is now “shaming”. Love it! Are we only supposed to say nice things now? That’s not really my classless style so…it would be cool to get a list of the rules here since there’s apparently about a million unwritten ones.

      • Tiffany :) says:

You finding her face odd looking is hardly “factual”.

      • sunny says:

It IS asymmetrical and one of her eyes DOES look off to the side. My opinion on her looking odd is just an opinion but do you dispute that her face is asymmetrical and her eye is misaligned with the other eye? That appears to be facts based on the pictures I’ve seen of her. I have not seen her in real life and so I can’t say with 100% certainty that this is a permanent condition and not just a camera issue. Some people photograph terribly. Maybe she’s one of those people. Who knows. But based on these pics and others I’ve seen, I feel confident in asserting that what I’ve said is true. If I’m wrong I will admit it but this is what I see looking at her. No it isnt nice. Sometimes things aren’t nice.

      • Sticks says:

        Everyone’s face is asymmetrical.

  14. ReineDidon says:

She could give her opinion on subjects not on people. She shouldn’t be judging how a 35 year old woman act on social networks. Weather it is Kim K or whomever. What does she think of pornstars then ? Or should all pornstars not be mothers ? Ugh

    • sunny says:

I wonder how the children of porn stars turn out. Or, more specifically, I wonder how the children of internet porn stars where everyone knows about your profession, turn out. It doesn’t appear that many ( if any but tbh I know almost nothing about porn or its stars other than I read Jenna Jameson’s book) of the stars themselves turn out ok. Maybe some do but it seems like an awful and damagingly objectifying profession and I cant see how someone wouldn’t be scarred for life by it. Maybe it takes a special and unique type of person to thrive in the industry. I know I couldn’t do it and I personally find it repugnant and I wouldn’t want to be friends with someone that was a porn star. Just personal preference and it’s probably “judgmental” and therefore bad but is it any worse than say, not befriending a republican? You can treat people respectfully and politely without being their friend or allowing them into your personal inner circle. Can’t you?

      • sunny says:

Sorry that was kind of a tangent but I am wondering about this! It’s kind of two things in one lol.

  15. Josefina says:

She’s only 19 and, despite her awful wording, I still think she had a point. I’m sorry but I dont see how handsome women flashing their boobs is ending patriarchy. Under that logic wet shirt contests are feminism’s biggest triumph.

Not a fan of her, but I do think under all her pretentiousness and awful wording there was a valid criticism to be made.

    • perplexed says:

I think her criticism was valid, but I think she made a mistake in tweeting directly to Kim (on a public platform). The weird thing is that I agree with Chloe’s argument, but I think another approach would have worked better.

  16. Lola says:

Chloe was just voicing what a lot of people were thinking about Kim’s constant thirst – the only difference being that she confronted Kim about it directly instead of just voicing her opinion on a blog or via Facebook. I also don’t see a problem with with Chloe said here. She stands by her views but wishes she had not confronted her directly, probably due to the nastiness she got slapped back with from KhloeK, who was way out of line.

  17. Kristen L says:

I’m gonna have to agree with the comment that the kardashians don’t deserve anyone’s attention. It’s so embarrassing to have them be one of the most popular families in the media.

    • caitlinK says:

I don’t understand why certain writers on this site continue to pretend that Kim—who is a vapid narcissist ONLY, not at all supportive of other women—is a feminist. How laughable. Is it to justify having so many threads about her on here?

      • pk says:

        Yep me either

      • Jwoolman says:

Well, strictly speaking, Kim fits the real definition. I assume she believes women should have equal rights and opportunities. Everything else is just extra framework on which individuals may also hang feminism. I don’t think Kim is comfortable with the term because of the extras included by many people, but if she knew the historical meaning then I don’t think she would have a problem with it.

  18. honeybee blues says:

Chloe, dear, when publicly referencing an elected official, their most recently held office is ALWAYS used, so in future, “Secretary Clinton” is how you refer to her, until Nov. 8th, at which point you will refer to her as President Elect Hillary Clinton. And then on January 20, we will switch to President Hillary Clinton. Although I may received some criticism here for giving you my attention that you don’t deserve, it is a really big pet peeve of mine for those who are supposedly politically involved. You really should know better if you’re going to be an outreach activist. And, my dear, this comes straight from D.C. Interns 101. It’s learned on day one. Were you not there?

    • deevia says:

OMG..I can’t. She’s just Hillary Clinton, not Jesus, or even Mother Teresa. No one would give a blip about her without that President title attached to her name, which is still up in the air at this point. Your instruction sounds like one of those “Your Royal Highness” in ancient time.

    • paranormalgirl says:

Good Lord. She’s not an intern and since you actually don’t know her exact relationship with Hillary Clinton, it’s not your place to comment on how she refers to someone. Basic niceties 101. Guess you missed that class. Dear.

  19. princessbuttercup says:

The classist White Feminism is strong with this one.

  20. Jade says:

I’m legit sick of people saying a woman is not a feminist if she disagrees with another woman’s choices. I am a feminist and believe the Kardashians do nothing to help and promote equality of woman. KI’m doesn’t refer to herself as a feminist, she allows herself to be refered as a bitch and she perpetuates the idea that a woman’s body is more important than the content of their words. Frankly a 19 year old is the only celebrity with enough guts to actually say something and that sucks

    • sunny says:

Perhaps this attitude towards other women by the self proclaimed arbiters of feminism is why so many women refuse to identify as feminists? It appears to be a never ending and unwinnable slapfight of pure nastiness and who wants to spend their time fighting with nasty and hateful people? Just a thought.

    • Kelly says:

Agree completely Jade. I suspect Chloe will have a long career ahead of her while at some point the Kardashians will finally go away. Really Chloe is right, she’s super talented and cool and the Kardashians are not.

  21. Guesty2 says:

    Misplaced hate.

  22. naomipaige says:

Maybe if we all stopped writing, talking, and commenting on them all they would all just go away. They are so thirsty, and we keep giving them the attention they so desperately crave. We should make this a Non-K forum. Hopefully, for good!

  23. WTF says:

I’m about to let my old lady show, but what bothers me most is that she’s 19 years old and she’s calling someone’s grandma (not to mention a secretary of state, and possible head of state) by her first name.
    Manners little girl

    • paranormalgirl says:

Perhaps Hillary Clinton asked her to call her “Hillary.” Yeah, it’s pretentious as hell, but who knows?

    • sunny says:

Yes! I agree! Manners are for everyone!

    • Jwoolman says:

I call her Hillary because Clinton is ambiguous in this case (Bill Clinton was once President). Otherwise just Clinton would be enough. Titles are really not needed in such discussion. I think it’s the New York Times that uses Mr. Trump and Mrs. Clinton because that’s their style preference. Many formal sources do refer to her as Secretary Clinton, although you could just as easily make a case for Senator Clinton. But many many many informal discussions refer to her as Hillary as the simplest way to distinguish. I’ll sometimes say Donald or The Donald (which Trump has actually used in reference to himself, so I don’t think he minds it).

  24. Abbadabba says:

She looks just like a Barbie if you squeeze its face holding the head and the chin.

    • Neelyo says:

Interesting. I always thought Beth Ostrosky Stern resembled a Barbie if you push in the sides of its head.

  25. cs says:

When I read that quote, I read it as her saying she shouldn’t have engaged with people on twitter? Not specifically any K-adjacent members? No one else here seems to be reading it this way, so am I totally off base??

  26. Veronica says:

Sometimes I’m just like, “Grow up already, Chloe.” And then I remember that she literally is only 19. *siiiigh* I am so glad I wasn’t famous around that time.
