Jamie Foxx: Ed Sheeran, Nick Cannon crashed on my couch (not at the same time)

If I found myself in a position where I needed to couch surf, I would revel in the idea that Jamie Foxx’s sofa might be in option. Apparently, Jamie’s couch has been a launching pad for some big name careers. Jamie is promoting both his TV game show Beat Shazam and his new film Baby Driver, which, I have to be honest, I don’t get. I understand the plot of the film, but not the appeal. But it does have a really decent cast. Anyway, back to Jamie’s couch – he told Entertainment Tonight that Ed Sheeran and Nick Cannon, among others, placed their pretty little heads on his armrest while they were trying to find their footing in the biz.

He opens his home to couch surfers! Jamie Foxx revealed that he has helped many young artists, including Ed Sheeran, get their start in the music business.

Foxx, 49, said that he gave Sheeran, 26, a place to stay in L.A. before he got his big break. “You want all art to be celebrated from everybody. I had Ed Sheeran sleep on my couch for six weeks,” he told Entertainment Tonight on Monday, June 12. “Before he made it, he came to my crib. So did Anthony Hamilton, Nick Cannon, all these [people]. You gotta press anybody that’s got that artistic feel, that touch, you’ve got to lift them up.”

Foxx’s Baby Driver costar Ansel Elgort, who joined the “Blame It” singer for the interview, confirmed that the superstar really is an amazing mentor. “He really spreads the love and he’s so supportive of everything,” Elgort, 23, chimed in. “As a young actor walking onto this set — and this goes for Jon [Hamm] as well — I was so excited to do this movie, but I didn’t expect any kind of relationship with these guys, where they would be so supportive.”

So is Jamie’s couch reserved for just musicians or could, say, an aspiring writer score a place there? Also, a bit of perspective helps. These folks met Jamie long after he’d been established. Ed, for instance, met Jamie on his radio show in 2010. So these lucky sods aren’t crashing in some roach-infested crash-pad with Cheez Wiz and soda stains on the upholstery, they’re holed up in his Hidden Hills mansion with a recording studio and pool. I’m sure the proverbial couch we’re talking about cost more than my car and is situated in a sun-filled guest suite looking over the canyon. Wonder if the couch crashers are allowed to borrow Jamie’s gold-wrapped Bugatti when they need to make a donut run?

I’m always curious how Jamie sees himself professionally, he’s been successful in so many careers. Reading this story, it sounds like he identifies with being a singer/musician but recently, he’s been sticking up for his comedian self. He came under fire for his appearance on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. As Fallon was throwing to commercial, Jamie feigned as if he was signing what Fallon was saying. However, as Jamie is not fluent in any language’s signing, people called him out on his insensitivity, notably deaf Oscar Winner Marlee Matlin and deaf model Nyle DiMarco. Although Jamie has not responded to that criticism, he has spoken out about Kathy Griffin’s photo scandal and like Jim Carrey and Alec Baldwin, he sides with the comedian. You can read the bulk of his defense here. Jamie reiterates Carrey’s comments about a comedian’s job being to cross the line and Baldwin’s idea that she will come back from this, but he did say one thing that jumped out at me. His argument in favor of Kathy is framed under his comment, “Don’t kill the comedian,” and he goes on to say, “So I know she made her mistake or whatever, and we’re all going to make mistakes, but you need us, man, because we’re there to make you laugh.” Lordy, that last bit – ain’t that the truth?

I have always found him to be sexy. I remember him from way back on In Living Color!!!! The homeless guy who dragged his dead dog through an obstacle course! Katie Holmes is lucky.

I agree so much with the statement about comedians, we really do need them and have to let them f up, because its part of their job. Gah! He is so handsome.

All this site does is shit on people so you’re apart of the problem.

No, that’s not all this site does. In fact, Celebitchy tends to present both sides of the argument. Like, you know, how they’re doing right now by showcasing someone prominent making a supportive argument for Kathy’s head shoot.

Ed Sheeran’s story seems almost like fiction to me. He got on a plane, left the UK, played some open mics in LA, got Jamie’s attention, and wham stardom.

He should be with me, not Katie Holmes. 😉
