Gal Gadot didn’t get Brett Ratner fired from ‘Wonder Woman’ but she did her part

'Justice League' photocall

We heard over the weekend that Gal Gadot was using her newfound popularity and influence to get a dude fired. Brett Ratner was a producer and financier of Wonder Woman and the whole Batman/Superman franchise. Ratner has also been “outed” in recent months as one of the Hollywood perverts who regularly abused his power and groped, harassed and assaulted multiple women over the years. Ratner’s company was supposed to produce the Wonder Woman sequel, and the story going around last weekend was that Gal Gadot threw her weight around and said that Warner Bros had to choose, because if Ratner was still involved, she would not be doing the sequel. I pointed out that WB had already suspended Ratner’s deal with the studio and it was likely a more “corporate” decision than just Gal’s say-so. Anyway, Gal sort of confirmed all of that in her Today Show interview this week:

Gal handled that question really well. What she basically says is that it’s no secret that she thinks Brett Ratner is trash but that’s how everybody felt and they were all in agreement that he needed to be kicked off the film. What she actually said was:

“The truth is, there’s so many people involved in making this movie—it’s not just me—and they all echoed the same sentiments. You know what I mean? So everyone knew what was the right thing to do, but there was nothing for me to actually come and say because it was already done before this article came out.”

Which is what I sort of said in the initial story. I do think Gal Gadot should get credit for standing up for her beliefs, but as she’s indicating, it was not her call alone, and everyone had already decided that Ratner would not be involved.

Also: Gal Gadot covers one of the “People of the Year” issues of GQ Magazine. They gave her the title of “Wonder Woman of the Year.” GQ released their profile of her this week – go here to read. I like her a lot but the profile was kind of boring.

Regardless of her actual impact, I have nothing but respect for her for saying it anyway. She didn’t have to.

    What a Gal!

    I’m sorry.

I really really like her. I do wonder however, whether she’s actually a good actress. I like her as WW but – and I hate to say this because again, I like her on screen – it wasn’t a very subtle or nuanced performance. And yeah, it’s WW but I felt like Chris Pine kinda stole the scenes? If you’re loving a movie and suddenly you’re thinking huh, that was kind of overdone, that can’t be a great sign. I should probably watch another movie with her in it.

I think she’s getting better. I recently rewatched the Fast and the Furious franchise and you can hardly understand what she’s saying in most scenes in the first one she’s in. They also just didn’t give her much to do other than look pretty. Wonder Woman was a vast improvement and I really liked her in the role. I hope she gets other movies!

She’s not a good actress at all but neither is Chris Pine. Sorry, I know he’s the second best Chris around here.
I recently watched “ keeping up with the Joneses” and her performance was so bad. And while we’re at it, wth is happening to Jon Hamm‘s career?

In fairness Chris Pine kinda steals all the scenes. I just did a rewatch of Six Feet Under and he was a dead guy on one of the episodes. It was pretty clear he was the one who’d become a star.

I don’t think Gal is a good actress, but I still find her to be gorgeous with a great personality. To me she is the anti-Jennifer Lawrence/anti-Natalie Portman, and that is a good thing! Gal doesn’t need Oscar accolades, she will be more popular and well-liked than Lawrence and Portman combined. I don’t think Gal would have ever made it beyond a C-list actress had she not been offered the role of Wonder Woman, but she shines as Wonder Woman. She was an excellent choice for this particular role. Luckily for her, it does not take a lot of acting talent to pull of a super hero character. She has a gorgeous face, athletic body, and charisma. I don’t know where her career will go after she finishes Wonder Woman, but for now, she is the Golden Girl and I don’t mind it at all.

She did take a big risk. Gutsy lady, I wish her well.

It was a publicity stunt from the get go. C‘mon people…
