For years now, it’s been pretty rare to see Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen walk a red carpet together. They maybe do it once a year on average, perhaps at the Met Gala or maybe at some random event that they’re involved with. Like this event last night: the Youth America Grand Prix’s 20th Anniversary Gala. MK and Ashley were each other’s dates, and they did the matchy-matchy goth thing and they posed the same way they always do – standing angled towards each other, faces close. They’re so creepy, it’s actually pretty funny.
I’m assuming both women were either in vintage or their own designs from The Row (or a combination of both). That’s the thing about their designs for The Row – they all look the same and they tend to all have that baggy, ill-fitting vintage vibe. I also think it’s interesting that suddenly, after years of NOT matching their hair colors, they both seem to be using the same colorist and the same shade of bronde?
Anyway, this post is just for EASTER WITCHES. Happy Good Friday and Happy Easter from the goth witch twins.

I love them. I think that hair color is much more flattering than the pale blonde they did for years. Mk looks like she’s sort of getting her natural face back??
Indeed! They have carved out an amazing career for themselves! I remember when they turned 18, all the pervy mags were like, “Yeeeaahhh, now we get the Olsen twins to bare all!” Ha! They showed them…
I am so in crush with them. Their hair looks amazing. Shame about the clothes, though.
They are totally commited to this style and they are the only ones who can really pull this of.
Just because they keep doing it, doesn’t mean they’re pulling it off.
I can’t remember where I saw it (Twitter, probably?) but someone recently said “The Olsen Twins look like one of them knows when you are gonna die and the other knows how.”
I have been laughing at that ever since and I can’t unsee it.
They’re the Andy and Ollie of the real world!

So much money to look this awful! But agreed they do look better than usual and their hair is a far improvement to the straw look than previous years.
They pioneered the annoying boho trend in mid 2000s and I remember how for a time they just looked homeless for a few years (really taking boho to an extreme). This is probably the most adult and chic I’ve seen them in a long time. They never were fans of structured clothes though so being a bit rebellious with the edge of bohoness with the baggy fit.
ALL the clothes you call “Boho” started in the 60s. It was called “hippie” style back then 😊. Hippie style fashioned on a lot of clothes that women wore in the times of medieval kings and queens. Fashion is cyclical. Always has been, always will be.
I admire these women for staying out of the gossip pages, and just going about building their empire. Far more here to admire than the usual vapid celebutards.
Perhaps they’re still “twinning” from their places in the womb: heads close, angled bodies? *¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love them. The Row is amazing. They are so smart, eclectic and private. No dislike for them. They are tiny tiny tiny and wear big clothes, so what?
if by “amazing”, you mean “INCREDIBLY overpriced and able to be found at the Gap/Ann Taylor for a fraction of what you’d pay at The Row”, I agree.
a “cotton jersey maxi dress” with spaghetti straps for $990? (get one at Old Navy for $17!) Khakis for $600? leather sandals for $690? oh, they also have a pair of those ridic jeans that Keaton is sporting in another post for the low low price of $690.
I don’t dislike them either; I admire their business sense and the way they parlayed their $ from being child stars into billions. but I disagree that the Row is “amazing”. Basic pieces and handbags for outrageous prices.
I mean amazing because they are amazing. Their clothes do not compare in any way to Old Navy. I shop at Salvation Army, etc so no judgement. Yes, these clothes are high high end clearly, totally out of my league but no less amazing. Just my opinion.
again, “amazing”? the Row dress I refer to is a light cotton, thin-strapped maxi dress. I’ve seen that at Old Navy so yeah, they do compare to it.
what is amazing about basic, neutral colored pieces? what’s “amazing” about jeans for $700? or khakis for $600? or barely there sandals for $700? please, explain what is “amazing” about that, other than that they are able to dupe people into paying that much.
I have never really checked out the Row because I am certain it is out of my price range, but just looking at these two women does not really inspire positive thoughts. They look like total messes! Their hair looks dirty, both of them. Their clothes don’t fit. Their faces look dirty. I just don’t get the “fashion icon” status that they have. I think they have the “mysterious vibe” down pat, which makes them fascinating, but they do not look good at all. They both look like they suffer from depression with their tangled hair and messy clothing
So glad you said that. Every time I see them, they make me think, “WHO HURT YOU?!?” between the shapeless clothes and scared-waify look. Could be completely baseless, but that’s my gut reaction when I see them.
It hurt to see a three hundred dollar tee shirt, courtesy of the Row….Fashion just hurts. Wish I had the courage to buy everything from the thrift.
Their hair looks great and I like their natural, no-makeup look. Their style is refreshing – it’s such a contrast to the very popular overly made-up and revealing look, which I find boring, unoriginal and try-hard. It’s interesting how we all have such different reactions. I don’t see ‘tangled’ hair. It looks shiny and healthy. Do you see tangles because their hair is not pin straight or obviously styled? Their clothes don’t look ‘messy’ to me. It doesn’t look like they picked them up from a heap on the floor. Their choices are just not form-fitting.
I don’t know what you are looking at because both of their hair looks super tangled. Like, if you tried to run your fingers through it, it would get stuck halfway through. And yes, that’s exactly what their clothes look like: like they picked them up from a heap on the floor! I mean, it’s an oversized v-neck and super baggy and too-long pants, and a black overcoat. Color me not that impressed! The red shoes are cool
I actually love them AND their clothes. I’ve been dressing this way my entire life lol. Black, baggy, comfortable! I love Helena Bonham Carter too so I’m a fan of quirk.
Well, they certainly have an aesthetic. I appreciate that they stick to what they like.
On a superficial note, Mary Kate is actually looking better than she has for while. She looked borderline ill at the MET last year.
I wish they were still acting. They’d be perfect in the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Le sigh.
I always got the feeling Mary-Kate & Ashley weren’t as tight as they seemed. They seem to come out to keep up enough appearances and go their separate ways again. Given the way they grew up, that seems completely understandable to me. It is nice to see it when they come together.
Not a fan of the outfits though. The dresses look atrocious. Not a fan of their boho chic much at all.
Good for them. Who cares If they are “weird” or “creepy”… they stay out of trouble, do their own thing, stay true to who they are, and really don’t give a F! So who are we or anyone else to judge? Let them be!
Someone who lived in New York and was dating a former child actor said they dress like this because they are self-conscious ofall the unpleasant experiences they had as children.
And I thought, how awful. Being told as you grow up on camera to dress a certain way, to make your body different to be cute or sexy or fit. To wear big garments must seem freeing by comparison- to not be sexualized or objectified on anyone else’s terms.
People make fun of them but in they are very successful.
I used to be troubled by their style. They’re both gorgeous I used to think to myself why don’t they just be gorgeous and show off their beauty since they’ve got it! I was obsessed with them as a kid. But lately I think they’re onto something.
We as women are conditioned to accentuate and show off and lengthen and do all these things to make our bodies look better, ie more attractive. And for the longest time (and I’d say still) we’re socialized to attract men. Only recently (last few decades) are we talking about how much we are socialized for the male gaze (as well as in competition with other women). Some women dress in this manner because THEY feel good about themselves when they do, and that’s cool. But then I look at men’s clothing, which is so much more loose and comfortable and think why would one choose skin tight, curve hugging, thin fabric over what men get to wear?
I can’t even imagine being gawked and stared at and having a countdown to my legal status on the internet growing up. How traumatizing. I’m glad they dress how they want and I hope it’s truly out of how they want to be seen and feel, instead out of trauma of oversexualization at a young age. I personally don’t know how I would be able to separate the two though. Either way, I love goth and boho fashions and hope one day I’m bold enough to pull it off. Congrats to them for getting out of the industry and into their real passion, and thriving.
I agree! I would take their style any day over the exhibitionism of other celebrities. They are the exact opposite of the Kardashians.
I agree. I’ve personally always had a thing for old world /traditional clothing. A little flattering in the bodice, but a lot of big round skirts that any woman of any age looks great in. Or some of the traditional clothing of India/Asia. Something that covers both worlds in terms of modesty and feminine or flattering, and is still comfortable. Of course, I’m not saying it’s practical for everyday or the modern life… just that the idea of non-figure hugging or showy clothing is interesting to think about.
