Bernie Ecclestone, 89, and his 44-year-old wife Fabiana welcome son Ace

Celebrities at the Hahnenkamm Race

Bernie Ecclestone is famous for being the former head of Formula One, and for making F1 into the cash-cow juggernaut that it is today. He’s always been a favorite of the British and European tabloids. Considering his age – he’s 89 years old – it’s a bit surprising that his life has not been even messier. He’s only on his third wife, and she’s a 44-year-old named Fabiana Flosi. Ecclestone and Fabiana announced, in April, that they were expecting their first child together. He has three daughters from his previous two marriages: Deborah, 65, Tamara, 35, and Petra, 31. Now Ecclestone and Fabiana have welcomed his first son!

Bernie Ecclestone has become a dad again at the age of 89 – after his wife gave birth to the billionaire’s first son. The former Formula One boss told Blick magazine: “We have a son named Ace. I am so proud.”

And his wife Fabiana Flosi, 44, told the Swiss newspaper it was “all so easy”, adding: “The birth was over after 25 minutes. I thank god.”

Ecclestone already has three daughters with his previous partners. His eldest, Deborah, 65, was born to his first wife Ivy Bamford before he had socialites Tamara, 35, and Petra, 31, with his second wife Slavica Radic.

Ecclestone announced the pregnancy back in April and told the PA news agency: “I don’t see there’s any difference between being 89 and 29. You’ve got the same problems I suppose. It’s alright.”

Ace Ecclestone? That doesn’t really roll off the tongue, but sure. “Ace” to me is a perfectly fine nickname but I can’t believe that people actually name their children Ace legally and that goes for Jessica Simpson too. Also, Fabiana gave birth in 25 minutes? Wow. Perhaps she had a C-section. And yeah, it’s crazy that an 89-year-old man is now the father of a newborn child. And it’s crazy that he also has a 65-year-old daughter.

Always thought Fabiana looks very much like Slavica!
    Congratulations, I guess. #ickfactor

  2. Roserose says:

25 minute vaginal births happen! Scary stuff!

    • Erinn says:

The doctor almost didn’t make it in time to deliver my brother. My mom is one of the lucky women who have very easy births – she said she felt good enough to go home with me a couple hours after giving birth, but obviously had to stay longer haha.

      • Meghan says:

@Erinn- same here. My son tried to come at 32 weeks but they stopped the labor and I was induced at 36 weeks. Had my epidural and 3 hours later felt a weird pressure by my hips/spleen/whatever is on the left side. They paged the doctor to come and told me to stop pushing- sorry no can do. They paged her again and told her to run. They had barely gotten the bottom part of the bed adjusted down and the doctor came in to catch him. Still felt like an effing boulder though.

My aunt had her first baby in the car on the way to the hospital. Two years later, she had the second in an elevator in the hospital while hospital staff was telling my uncle he was hysterical and that they had plenty of time.

My sister woke one night with back pains. She remembered someone telling her about back labor and started timing the back pains and decided it was time to just go to the hospital. My nephew was born an hour after she got there.

      • FHMom says:

Holy cow. I think I’d just check into a hospital in my 9th month if I were in your family!

  3. Biff says:

I try not to comment on peoples reproductive choices, but I’m to tired to care right now.

Did anyone in this situation think about the child???? I get that they have money, but parenting is. not. just. about. providing. financial. support.

I have the same thought about Richard Gere. At one point you have to stop thinking that you should have a baby just because you want it, and actually think what you can provide in respect to upbringing, emotional support and so forth. Difficult to do all that when you’re dead.

    • Eleonor says:

      Totally co-sign.

    • greenmonster says:

I co-sign as well. If your oldest kid is over 60, you shouldn’t become a father.

      • Still_Sarah says:

I was born when my father was in his early 40’s and he died from lung cancer (lifelong smoker) just after my 21st birthday. I’m 58 now and I can tell you that it left a big gap in my life – no father to go to when things were rough, no father to share my accomplishments and successes with. It’s selfish IMO to have a baby and know they will likely not see the child graduate from middle school.

    • Granger says:

I co-sign too. This is clearly all about Fabiana. She wanted a baby, she never has to work another day in her life to support a child, and she doesn’t care if she has to do it alone.

And I know people will say that there’s no guarantee a young dad won’t die when his kid is very young — but it’s absolutely guaranteed to happen in this case. Which just seems wrong to me.

    • Arpeggi says:

Yup! Geriatric pregnancies can cause epigenetic changes that’ll affect this kid throughout his life. It’s not because men can still produce sperm at such an old age that it’s good quality: the kid higher risks of being on the spectrum (not that there’s anything wrong with that, but it makes your life a tad more complicated than being neurotypical), of developing schizophrenia and so will his children.

That being said, Ecclestone is well known to be a terrible person so I can’t really say that it’s sad that the kid will never know his dad and only get some of his fortune.

      • vertes says:

Yes to this! “Old sperm” is known to be more likely to contribute to various complications. My father’s grandchildren are older than his youngest child, born when he was in his 60s. My half-sibling is high-functioning autistic with various other problems. Dad thought he was a real stud to marry a woman younger than his other kids & start a new family.

  4. Alissa says:

uh, the difference between an 89 year old and a 29 year old is that the 89 year old is statistically much more likely to die within the next five years.

this just seems so cruel to the kid.

    • OriginalLara says:

That statement right there tells me he’s never ever been involved in raising his children. And he won’t be with this one. So indeed, what’s the difference to him. Just another name to add to his will. Poor child.

  5. Carobell says:

I am now even more convinced this was about having a son to carry the legacy from his perspective and having the SON to carry the legacy from hers as well. I mean, congratulations and all, but this is weird. At least they can afford good stable help.

  6. Larissa says:

    To be honest,
Fathers can potentially die at any time… no matter their age, so why care?
This kid is clearly set for life.

    Congratulations to Ace!

Also, this guy probably had frozen sperm somewhere because I cannot believe a man can conceive naturally at that age, but hey, I am no scientist. hahaha

    • Ann says:

A much younger father is statistically much less likely to die. The guy will kick it soon so not the same thing at all. Not even factoring in that old/er father’s produce less healthy offspring.

    • Ange says:

The difference is with an 89 year old it’s a confirmed fact and scarily imminent.

    • Haapa says:

You can die at any time, so why not just eat the arsenic? Nice logic there.

  7. Biff says:

Yes, anyone can die at anytime, but this guy has about 15 minutes of life left in him. There is a difference.

  8. lana86 says:

I am more interested how they manged to do it from the biological point of view… sort of morbidly fascinating…. Also , isnt it a risk childs health – to have it from 90 year olds genetic material??!(

  9. NotHeidisGirl says:

Sigh. So rich but oh so dumb.

Have we talked about how he just said that „in lots of cases, Black people are more racist“?
    Not surprising but still POS.

  10. Lightpurple says:

The person I want to hear from is Deborah. She was an only child until she was 30 years old when her first sister was born, 35 for the second, and now, at 65 years old, she has a baby brother. She probably has grandchildren.

    • FHMom says:

Me, too. Deborah needs to speak up. Also, yuck. Hoping the baby was conceived in a lab.

  11. Sarah says:

I once taught a kid whose family was very, very wealthy and his parents were about these ages when he was born. He never really knew his dad and his mum was always somewhere in the world doing her own thing. His oldest siblings were too old to be his parents too, and he was an uncle to people in their forties with kids his age. His main parental figure was the main housekeeper (he was a teen at this point). It was really sad.

    • Larissa says:

I am a professional career nanny, and I can tell you this happens regardless of the age of the parents, even not high net worth families. So there is that.

      • Sarah says:

The ages of his siblings and their children have everything to do with the age of his parents. It’s a very bizarre family structure – that’s the point I’m making.

  12. SJR says:

So, OK, granted the kid will have money.
Now, OTOH, who is he going to be raised by? Or with? His oldest sisters grandchildren maybe are young enough for him to hang around with.

89 year old men need to accept the fact that having a child at that age is not a option if you take your ego out of it.

I know several families who are medium-wealthy. Housekeepers, Nanny, hired help for most things. The kids are mostly raised by “staff”. Parents are bust being well-known up and comers in town. Careers come first, the kids are a way to network with others in their circle. I think it’s sad.

  13. Starkille says:

Perverse and grossly irresponsible. Best of luck to this poor child.

  14. Jane B says:

This guy shouldn’t be mentioned without noting his gross racist statements too. Those should follow every article about him for the rest of his life

  15. Natasha says:

Children born to fathers over 40 are more likely to be autistic. Glad they have the money to hire all the help and learning assistance the kids needs.

  16. Bread and Circuses says:

Imagine being 65 years old and learning that you have a new baby brother.

Imagine having a child when you’re pushing 90.

Imagine having a child with someone you know will most likely die before the kid finishes grade school.
