Captain America & other Avengers will assemble for a Biden-Harris fundraiser

World Premiere of 'Avengers: Endgame'

I donated to the Biden-Harris campaign in August and September, like so many people. That campaign is sitting on a massive campaign war chest, and I suspect that they will need every penny. The Biden-Harris campaign is outbuying the Trump campaign in radio and TV ads, plus Joe and Kamala will need the money to launch legal challenges in multiple states on Election Day and beyond. Still, I find it strange that the Biden-Harris campaign is still doing so much fundraising in the final two weeks of the election. Granted, they haven’t been able to do many big ticket, in-person fundraisers because of the pandemic. But still, it’s a little bit odd to see star-studded virtual fundraisers two weeks before Election Day. Behold, the Avengers are assembling to raise money for Joe and Kamala:

The Avengers are the latest group in Hollywood to support democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden by hosting a virtual fundraiser. “Voters Assemble!” will feature “Avengers” cast members Don Cheadle, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo and Zoe Saldana. They will join vice presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris and “Avengers: Infinity War” directors The Russo Brothers for a Q&A and trivia.

The fundraiser will take place on Oct. 20 at 6:45 p.m. ET. Fans are able to donate any amount of money to the Joe Biden Victory Fund to attend.

Ruffalo, who plays Hulk in the “Avengers” universe, has been especially vocal about his support for Biden on social media, using his platform to encourage others to vote. In one Instagram post, Ruffalo sported a mask that said “VOTE” with the caption: “We must elect champions who will fight for the Green New Deal and push Congress to pass climate action that matches the scale of the problem with the urgency our country’s future demands.”

So… um, no Robert Downey Jr., huh? I guess he really IS a Republican, as many of us have long suspected. If RDJ is voting for Donald Trump, he’s cancelled. I’m sorry about that, but it’s true. And no Jeremy Renner either, HUH!!! But I enjoy the fact that Chris Evans is going to participate in it, especially given the fact that he’s been Mr. Both Sides in recent months. What else… Don Cheadle and ScarJo are longtime Democratic Party supporters, so that’s not noteworthy. Paul Rudd surprised me a bit, but he’s an unproblematic angel sent from heaven so of course he’s not MAGA. Mark Ruffalo was a Bernie Sanders supporter, but yeah, at this point he’s anybody-but-Trump.

I am sure Downey is a Republican, but he sure as hell isn’t a Trumpster.

He did an ad for Clinton in 2016 directed by Joss Wheton, so maybe he is busy and couldn’t guarantee his time for this one.

And I still wash my hands of Evans. He gave Crenshaw legitimacy and for this, I am OVER him.

    • Mia4s says:

If anything other than Democrat I’d say Downey is an Independent. That, or he votes for who he wife tells him to vote for. 😉 He did campaign stuff for Hillary when she ran and is a recorded Obama donor. So I’d say it’s a stretch to say he’s a Republican.

      Chris Pratt though? ….yeah.

  2. Darla says:

I think he’s a republican, but that he didn’t vote for Trump, and won’t this year either. I have seen him do Vote campaigns, and that’s not something Trumpsters are big on. I think he probably voted Dem in 16 and will again, but he’s not going to come out as some big Dem. I also don’t think Evans would be so tight with him if he was a Trumpster. His interviews, one in particular in Vanity Fair, made it pretty obvious he really struggles with anyone who voted for Trump. But I also just don’t think RDJ is a Trumpster, and I’m not a fan of his, so this isn’t stanning.

No Downey Jr. and no Pratt?

  4. Kate says:

Didn’t RDJ participate in an anti-trump voting video?

  5. Mac says:

Chris Pratt is also notably absent.

    • Chris says:

Isn’t it pretty much widely known at this point he’s a Republican? Isn’t his new wife anti-trump? He may be an anti trump Republican but doesn’t want to alienate his trump fans?

RDJ may just have something else going on or he also doesn’t want to get involved. I mean I have my opinions on that, but I’ll keep it to myself.

  6. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

Aw superheroes are fighting for Biden? Surely there’s t-shirts and hats. So Biden has television AND movies? Someone’s itching a cheeto-dusted ass.

  7. Lauren says:

RDJ participated in ad against Trump in 2016, so I doubt he is a maga person. Pratt on the other hand…

  8. LightPurple says:

Evans has long done grassroots fundraising locally for Democrats. He started as a kid working on the campaigns of his uncle Mike Capuano, who lost his congressional seat in a primary to Ayanna Pressley. Friends who do lots of fundraising for Democrats here in MA say that he often works on the phone banks doing fundraising and get out the vote calls for Warren, Markey, and other MA Democrats and that he plays it very quiet, introducing himself simply as “Chris” so the focus is on getting out the vote, not on “OMIGOD! Captain America is calling me!”

  9. Case says:

RDJ is a long-suspected Republican? Huh, I feel like that’s a stretch. Maybe he has other commitments.

All of these celebrities coming together to GOTV and raise money is cool. The Hamilton cast recently did a fundraiser for Biden, too.

  10. LP says:

RDJ made some comments about being a conservative about 10-15 years ago? Right before iron man or right as iron man was getting off the ground. He basically said that was the text of the prison system and his drug use, essentially. However, years later (like 2014?) he was asked about it again and something that sounded a lot more nuanced to me, like maybe he’d changed his options somewhat? I think it was a reddit AMA but I can’t find it…he did do the explicitly Not Trump super PAC joss Whedon video in 2016, so if anything he’s an anti trump independent or one of these rich guys who claims to be ‘socially liberal fiscally conservative’ (I roll my eyes at that but whatever). I very much give him a pass because he isn’t out here advocating for conversion therapy churches and wearing “don’t tread on me” shirts, you know?

  11. VAE says:

Doesn’t RDJ’s criminal record make him unable to vote?

    • Chimes@Midnight says:

Vae, he was pardoned in 2015.

    • nana says:

Wait people convicted of a crime aren’t allowed to vote? In my country we set up electoral boards in the prisons

      • E.D. says:

It depends on the state in the U.S.A.
There are 2 states that let you vote whilst incarcerated.
Most let you vote AFTER you have finished your sentence.
Some have a waiting period before your right to vote is restored and some states even make you pay a debt/tax back before you are allowed to vote again.

  12. PixiePaperdroll says:

I’m under the impression that most of the fundraising that keeps going on is to prep for post-election legal battles if Joe wins.
