Jessica Biel will climb Mt. Kilimanjaro for clean water awareness

The past few weeks, there have been a few drops of Jessica Biel news here and there. Jessica signed on to a new film – The A-Team, where Jessica will be playing Bradley Cooper’s character’s girlfriend – it’s a very supporting part, not anywhere close to the lead roles Jessica thinks she deserves, but is somehow too beautiful for. There are also rumors floating around that Justin Timberlake has dumped Jessica, and is now dating Rihanna. I don’t buy those rumors, but whatever. I think JT and Rihanna are just hanging out, but I’m sure Jessica is pissed all the same.

In nicer Jessica news, she’s just signed on to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in January as a way to raise awareness for the global issue of clean, accessible water. It’s a great cause, and Jessica is going to have to train like hell to make it up:

When Jessica Biel, Lupe Fiasco and Isabel Lucas get together in Africa, they’ll have nowhere to go but up.

The entertainers have signed on to climb the continent’s highest peak – Mt. Kilimanjaro, at more than 19,000 feet – to raise awareness about the need for clean water worldwide.

The Summit on the Summit expedition, set for January, is the brainchild of singer and producer Kenna. His father suffered from waterborne diseases as a child in Ethiopia.

Biel, 27, said she was “astonished” to learn that more than a billion people across the globe have no access to clean water.

“This is a basic human necessity that needs to be addressed now,” Biel said in a statement, adding that she’s proud to climb Kilimanjaro with the celebrity team “to help any way I can in order to raise awareness toward the life-threatening clean water crisis happening not only in Africa but around the world.”

Justin Timberlake – who’s been romantically linked with Biel – may also be joining the climbers: He told GQ magazine earlier this year that he was preparing for a major mountain climb.

Representatives for the climb declined to comment on the 28-year-old singer’s possible participation.

Kenna said more celebrity climbers will be announced in the coming months, and he urges fans to follow the climb online. A donation as small as a dollar can provide 1,000 liters of clean water to those who need it, he said.

“We wanted to make sure there was a way people knew this was an issue and a way for them to do something about it,” he said Wednesday. “This is a global issue. It’s not an Africa problem. It’s not a South America problem. It’s a world, global problem. In America, 11 million people go without clean water.”

Justin might be joining her – even though, reportedly, he’s bothered by her superior athleticism and her hardcore workouts. My guess is that Justin will write a check while Jessica actually does the climb, for which I applaud her. Jessica is following in some great celebrity footsteps on the global water issue. Matt Damon does a ton of work with African and Asian clean water projects, and Jay-Z is an ambassador for the United Nations program Drop In the Bucket.

Cool. Love that dress she’s sporting in the bottom pics.

  2. crash2GO2 says:

Oooh. She’s gorgeous but she looks really washed out in that lead pic. She needs some lipstick on.

Now how’s that for a frivolous comment?

  3. SolitaryAngel says:

*Gasp* Isn’t she much too beautiful to climb a mountain? o_0

  4. Annie says:

I could make a snide comment about Mr. Biel, because well…

But, she’s doing a good thing, so I won’t rain on that.

  5. Ana says:

    Her lips gross me out!
So she is going to whole charity work to get some press.

I’m pretty sure her a$$ IS Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Good cause and all, but I’m not exactly sure how doing this helps people get clean water. Wouldn’t volunteering for some of those groups who help get wells going be better? I think Matt Damon is involved in something like that.

  7. Hieronymus Grex says:

More mental dissonance; what does the one have to do with the other ? Can’t they just crack open a wallet instead of making some phony grandstand?

  8. Heavenbound says:

Since she can’t get an acting gig, she has to do something to stay relevant. *gag* if she was not dating that nasty noodle of a boyfriend of hers, she would be irrelevant.. Oh sorry she already is.

  9. Bob says:

I’m getting a “I should be as famous and respected as Angelina Jolie” vibe from Ms. Biel’s recent actions. Watch for her to adopt a few kids from a third world country, and force Justin to go out and build houses for the homeless.
