Teddi Mellencamp, 40, is a fitness and diet influencer who used to be on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She’s also John Cougar Mellencamp’s daughter. We’ve only covered her a couple of times, when people pointed out that her diet plan was less than 1,000 calories a day and when she was about to be fired from RHOBH. Teddi recently revealed on her podcast that she recovered from a bad bout with coronavirus. She was vaccinated, got sick for about six days and is still getting vertigo. She even fainted once recently, fell and hit her head. It sounds awful but it wasn’t as bad as her husband Edwin’s case. He hadn’t been vaccinated and was sick for over two weeks. Edwin, 44, and Teddi have three children together: daughters Dove, 17 months and Slate, eight, and son Cruz, six. Teddi said being covid positive was hard because she had to also isolate from her kids, especially since Slate has an autoimmune disease. People Magazine has more.

“A while back I had COVID and I didn’t really talk about it because I was just really focused on making sure that I was healthy and my family was healthy,” Mellencamp said on the podcast. “I was vaccinated and my husband was not, which he has since realized what a big mistake that was.”

Mellencamp said that she and her husband “both had COVID and we had to quarantine from our family, and actually from each other.”

“At first, he tested positive so he was quarantined,” she said. “Then I had a feeling so I just quarantined myself as well into another room until I ended up testing positive.”

Mellencamp said that she and her husband “both had COVID and we had to quarantine from our family, and actually from each other.”

“At first, he tested positive so he was quarantined,” she said. “Then I had a feeling so I just quarantined myself as well into another room until I ended up testing positive.”

“Edwin, he was super weak, and it was so many different things and it really was a great reminder how important it is, you know, to get vaccinated,” she added…

Mellencamp, who shares kids Slate, 8, Cruz, 6, and Dove, 1, with Arroyave, said it was “extremely difficult” not to be around her kids while quarantining and that she was constantly “worried of giving it to them, especially because Slate has an autoimmune disease.”

One of her most prominent symptoms, she said, was vertigo — a feeling of dizziness, a false sense of motion, and imbalance.

“I would feel like I was laying on a water bed and then when I’d get up I’d feel dizzy,” she said. “And it kind of lingered with me, even post-COVID, and it had been continuing to happen.”

She fell Saturday night during a bout of vertigo, and fainted when she tried to pull herself back up. The fall caused her to bust her lip and resulted in a black eye.

Recounting the story on Instagram Sunday, Mellencamp called the incident “scary” and said she has “felt really foggy and just not like myself ever since.” She added that she will “be diligent about wanting to understand why it happened.”

Teddi has a Q&A on her Instagram stories now. She said she didn’t disclose her diagnosis online because she wanted to wait until she felt better. She tested negative at day 8 but said “Edwin was still testing positive at day 15.”

I’ve heard so many stories of husbands who won’t get vaccinated. I could not live with, or have a relationship with, an unvaccinated person. I don’t think I could have a relationship with a vaccinated person who refused to wear a mask. As I’ve mentioned many times, the pandemic changed so many of my friendships. (I’m so glad I listened to that podcast with Jenna Dewan yesterday because she said something similar.) My heart goes out to those of you with loved ones who are refusing to get vaccinated. It blows my mind how selfish people are being. Many of them are learning the hard way like Teddi’s husband. Even though some people are being so dumb and stubborn about this, no one deserves to go through covid. (Ok Trump did and Lindsey Graham got it.) Those of us who have been vaccinated, and especially the people who are caring for the unvaccinated sick, are paying the price too. The variants wouldn’t even exist if more people took this seriously.

That’s so scary that she’s still not well and fainted! It looks like she’s ok now though because she posted a video of herself on the elliptical. Covid can still be serious, but is rarely deadly, for people who have had their shots. I really hope boosters are approved within the next month or so.

There’s a couple in the my family-the husband is vaccinated and the wife is not. They were planning on traveling out the country (canceled now) and the husband told the wife he would leave her at the border if they didn’t let her in.

I can’t imagine living with that kind of tension.

  2. Lucy2 says:

I am appalled that a father of 3 young children, including one with an auto immune disease, would refuse to get vaccinated. Shame on him.

Vertigo sucks- I had it when Lyme caused nerve damage, end it took a full year to feeling mostly better. I still have bouts of it occasionally, but it was almost continuous then.

    • Aud says:

My co-worker’s fiance has diabetes and they wouldn’t get it st first. I told him that’s very dangerous and reckless. Seemed to wake them up, they both ended up getting the vaccine.

Vertigo does suck. First, and worst, time I had it started while I was driving home from an open water swim in somewhat turbulent water, was scary as I didn’t now what it was and felt like I was driving upside down while trying to safely pull over. Eventually got home and was on my couch for a week. Dramamine and Sudafed were the only thing that helped, had to just ride it out. Still get random bouts of it but have learned to take Sudafed daily because, for me, water in ears is a major trigger.

I had a serious issue with vertigo a month ago (had both Moderna shots back in spring). It was truly debilitating — couldn’t even turn my head, let alone get up and walk. The doctor prescribed meclizine and the vertigo went away. They did EKG and various tests and said everything looked normal. Hasn’t come back, but I kinda live in a bit of fear now. It is serious. I couldn’t function, at all. I wish I had some clue why it happened. My nurse said vertigo can come on for apparently no reason (!) and if it were a vaccine side effect it would have shown up closer to when I got the shot. I did have a couple instances of vertigo in March a few weeks after my first shot but then nothing till June. 🤷‍♀️ Sympathize with anyone dealing with this.

      • MerlinsMom1018 says:

I have had 2 TIA’s and one of the unexpected side effects is vertigo. While I joke about “if I had known THIS was gonna happen, I wouldn’t have spent all that money on drugs to get the same effect when I was younger” it’s still scary. I haven’t had an episode for awhile now, but it can come in at any time and I just have to ride it out.
I have heard about folks having vertigo with the vaccine, and they have all my sympathy. (I had the Pfizer and surprisingly enough had no side effects)

      • JJ says:

My SO had his second vaccine two weeks ago and he was seriously convinced his vertigo was back, he was so sick for a solid three days. We even did the Epley maneuver because he was so convinced but when we did it didn’t show the usual eye twitch thing… so it seems like for him the side effects of the vaccine (Pfizer) just _felt_ the same as his periodic vertigo. So strange. Vertigo sucks.

  3. Falula says:

Covid or not, she could also be fainting bc she eats 500 cals a day 🤷🏻‍♀️. My empathy for people with privilege and access who refuse to get vaccinated is nonexistent at this point.

  4. Simone says:

I have no clue who this lady is but I was sympathetic to her story until she said she traveled at ‘mock speed’.

  5. OriginalRose says:

When I was getting my second jab the NURSE who was doing them told me her partner wouldn’t get jabbed…I was just speechless, like literally didn’t know what to say to her. I can’t believe someone who lived with a nurse who must have seen some stuff these last 1 months wouldn’t get jabbed, it just defies explanation

    • Drea says:

My friend is a travel nurse coordinator and she’s said that plenty of her nurses won’t get vaccinated. Which is just wild. Glad they’re starting to require it.

      • Andrea says:

Just had a friend post on social media about standing by medical freedom and she is against a mandate for nurses and she is a nurse! I was appalled. My father says no unvaccinated people are ever touching him and I agree.

My spa wont confirm that my lady who will do my facial is vaccinated, so I declined the facial appointment. I may have to find another place who does facials.

      • Lauren says:

I met a couple of nurses like that. They said that they wouldn’t get vaccinated and they worked in covid wings. I don’t know what they are doing now since nonvaccinated medical personnel has been suspended without pay until December 2021 in Italy, which could be even longer if the pandemic continues.

  6. Stephanie says:

Your kid has an autoimmune disorder and you don’t get vaccinated? GTFO with that. Selfish individual.

  7. Lauren says:

I’m sorry, what? Your husband knows that he has a child with an autoimmune disease and he chooses not to get vaccinated during a pandemic? I would throw him out of the house until he gets vaccinated. What a selfish ahole. I’m sorry for her, but girl if your body needs nutrition. 1000 calories are not enough especially when sick. Your body needs nutrients and plenty of liquids to be able to work properly and protect you from diseases and infections.

  8. Savu says:

I read this post and kissed my husband, and thanked him for not being stupid. I spent weeks trying to get the shot for us in February (it was hard to secure back then!) and we got it the same day, at two different Walgreens, an hour and a half away from us. I love that man.

  9. Cee says:

His child has an autoimmune illness and he still won’t get the vaccine? THE NERVE. Kick him out!!!

  10. mindy_dopple says:

I agree with everyone that refusing to get vaccinated ESPECIALLY with a child with an autoimmune disease would have me throwing my husbands stuff out the window. No second thoughts, just things in garbage bags.

  11. BrickyardUte says:

1- maybe she fainted because of her disordered eating? For real, check out her MLM All In By Teddi- it’s a how to develop dangerous eating habits and starve yourself thin by trying to live off 500-700 calories a day while preforming heavy exercise overseen by untrained “coaches” who will use negative reinforcement and will drop you from the program with no reimbursement if you fail to live up to the unhealthy standard.

2- the posed beauty shot for a busted lip? Thank goodness I am cheap and don’t want to pay for a new phone or else I would throw mine across the room.

    • Murphy says:

Yes I agree with you on #1, big time restrictive eating

    • Ann says:

She is definitely selling an eating disorder wrapped up in a “wellness” bow. I don’t know how she functions even if she were getting up to *gasp* 1200 calories. She is an equestrian in addition to doing other exercises. Plus 3 kids under 10. You need calories for all of that. I’d have more empathy for her of she wasn’t making all of that seem like some aspirational product.

  12. Murphy says:

And this morning she expressed surprise that the situation caused so much debate, um hello, read the room!

    • BrickyardUte says:

She auto deletes all the comments that are critical about the restrictive nature of her scam program on all her Insta accounts. But any attention is good attention when you are a hasbeen nepotism reality star I guess. 🤷🏻‍♀️

  13. sa says:

I’ve had really bad vertigo all week, but covid never occurred to me – the weather’s been wonky here and that always messes with my head, just not usually this many days in a row. I still think it’s more likely weather related, but now my inner hypochondriac is going to nag at me about covid. Darnit, it’s my own fault for reading a post about people I don’t even know.

    • lucy2 says:

Do you have sinus issues? That’s when mine seems to flare up, when my sinuses are messed up, and that’s often related to incoming bad weather. It’s been threatening to rain here for like 2 days.

      • sa says:

I do. And it’s been overcast and threatening to rain here for several days. I wouldn’t even question that weather is the culprit if I hadn’t read this post (I’m still 99.9999% sure).

  14. Chaine says:

All I got out of this was John mellancamp has a forty year old kid and now I feel super super elderly.

  15. Jessica says:

My bf and I both caught it back in September, we didn’t quarantine separately, but it’s just us. He had it SO MUCH WORSE than I did, it was crazy to watch unfold. I was really only down for about a day or two, feeling blah for about two weeks. He was sick over a month. He was eligible for the vaccine before me, and got sick with both shots, while I had literally zero side effects. Now, almost a year later, he says his smell and taste haven’t come back 100%. I’m not surprised she’s still feeling effects, but I agree with others, her eating disorder plays into it. How can her body fight off a deadly infection when it can barely keep itself running?
