Meghan McCain whines about how everyone hated her for being stupid & toxic

Diana's 60th birthday

One of my favorite internet jokes is the tweet from @cavalorn which reads: “’I never thought leopards would eat MY face,’ sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party.” It perfectly encapsulated the modern political reality of millions of sadistic voters gleefully voting for vile, terrible candidates with the false belief that, if elected, the candidates will only harm their enemies. It became less of a joke tweet and more of a political reality during the Trump years. I bring this up because Meghan McCain has a new audio memoir called Bad Republican. In it, she’s not simply the Leopards Eating People’s Faces voter who sobs because the leopard is eating her face. No, McCain is also incredibly mad that she’s being mocked and ridiculed for being stupid enough to belong to the Leopards Eating People’s Faces party. Some excerpts from McCain’s Bad Republican:

It was so terrible to be mocked for being Republican: “You can’t imagine how it messes with your self-esteem working in an environment where the worst thing you can be in the world is a Republican during the Trump years. As the country got worse under Trump, the treatment from Whoopi, Joy and some of the staff grew meaner and less forgiving. It was as if I had become an avatar for everything they hated about the president. It felt like the co-hosts and staff only knew one Republican — me — and took out all their anger on me, even though I didn’t even vote for Trump.”

On Whoopi Goldberg: “The thing about Whoopi, though, is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table. I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on and it became more frequent. Occasionally, if the show’s political discourse veered into territory that she found disagreeable, Whoopi would cut me off, sometimes harshly.”

OMG she’s so stupid: “After my dad died, I heard Joy had told others at ‘The View’ that she couldn’t understand how I could still defend Republicans after everything Trump had done to me. Why was that something she had to worry about? I could separate the two. I could separate Trump from being a Republican.”

Coming back to work after she experienced postpartum anxiety: “As I was dealing with my own emotions, I couldn’t also navigate the idea that I was hated and felt hated at a toxic work environment. To make light of things and to ease the tension, I said, ‘Joy, you missed me so much when I was on maternity leave! You missed fighting with me!’ ’I did not,’ Joy said. ‘I did not miss you. Zero.’ Nothing anyone has ever said to me on camera since I have been giving interviews since I was 22 years old ever hit this hard. I felt like I’d been slapped. She yelled out at me sharp and intensely and I believed her. Now, I know I’m not always a perfect angel, but I would never speak to any woman that way who had just returned after giving birth.”

[From Page Six]

Just so we’re absolutely and completely clear, a talentless woman with little work experience was hired to be “the conservative voice” on a woman’s talk show and whenever she stuck to her Republican talking points, she was stunned that people thought she was stupid, or that her politics were deplorable, or that she was betraying her father’s memory by defending an unhinged lunatic named Donald Trump. McCain’s actual problem is that her politics are repulsive and her personality sucks too. She’s too stupid to even understand what she’s actually complaining about. “I never thought I would be belittled and maligned at work when my job is reciting talking points for the Leopards Eating People’s Face Party when the leopard is eating all of our faces!”

Joy has always been my favorite.

Early on, Meghan tried to get Joy fired so I can believe that Joy has no love for her, but everyone on that panel hated Meghan. Whoopi was patient for a long time but eventually even she was done.

  2. WithTheAmerican says:

Meghan is as despicable as Ted Cruz. Trump insulted her dead father and she slobbered at his feet on National TV every morning defending the indefensible.

  3. Southern Fried says:

Ignorance runs deep with this one. Regardless of her loathsome party affiliation and ignorance McCain was disrespectful almost daily to the guests, hosts and audiences. Most likely towards the show staff also. She still has no bloody clue that all her jobs have been because of her mother’s wealth and her dad’s reputation. Her whining and victim hood is relentless.

  4. MsIam says:

Cluelessness runs deep with this one. Sheesh!

  5. anniefannie says:

What MM could never fathom is that she’s overtly unlikable AND an unapologetic trump Republican. That combination was unwatchable ( though I have to admit I’d hate watch her because she was inevitably put in her place!) Her victim hood train is right on time….

  6. Merricat says:

Raise your hand if you miss seeing Megan “my father” McCain on television. Anyone?
No, that’s what I thought. It would be like missing a rotten tooth that your dentist just pulled.

  7. Teebee says:

I don’t watch The View enough to really have an opinion… except to say this post is hilarious and absolutely confirms in my mind why I dislike this woman so much. She proudly calls herself a member of a party that worships guns, control over women’s reproductive organs, doesn’t want to pay its fair share of taxes, doesn’t want to support social safety nets or offer its citizens access to affordable healthcare… I could go on.

When you really really think about it, anybody that calls themselves a Republican, today, after all that’s happened since they chose Trump as their leader and haven’t unequivocally denounced him, is getting off easy if all we do is try to make them feel bad about themselves. They deserve 100% ostracization. Their participation in society cards should totally be revoked. They will never get the fact that the very quality of life they enjoy and hoard like the greedy spoiled infants they are is on the backs of Democratic principles and values. Screw Meghan McCain. Cry your bitter salty tears somewhere else.

Yep. And this entire poor me routine is coming from a wealthy western white woman says American LGBTQ people should just be grateful for living in America. Funny how conservatives seem to turn Shut Up & Count Your Blessings on everyone but themselves.

  8. Zan says:

“Yields” power is much different “wields” power, so I hope that was a transcribing error for poor, delicate Meghan’s sake. 🙄

  9. Tanya Nguyen says:

Wow. She has so little self-awareness. She doesn’t realize she was despised for her personality, her attitude, her meanness and contempt for her co-hosts. She even got into a verbal back and forth with Whoopi on air when she was so rude to whoopee. But she’s trying to paint herself as a victim. I don’t know how her parents raised her. Her dad warned the co-hosts that she was an abrasive a-hole personality before she was hired. That says a lot because apparently Megan McCain has her dad’s disgusting temper. It seems even her parents found Megan McCain exhausting and tiresome.

  10. MrsRobinson says:

It tells you all you need to know that she thinks this is a valid argument and that she’s willing to make herself the “victim” for more publicity.

  11. Amy Bee says:

She doesn’t know that the reason why people on the show hated her was because she was a terrible person. She’s delusional.

  12. Matthew says:

Whoopi’s “ok……..” responses to one of Meghan’s idiotic rants is iconic television.

  13. Lizzie Bathory says:

Nothing like a mug full of piping hot white woman tears to start the day.

  14. Malina says:

I kept reading it as “leotards eating people’s faces” and kept picturing it as some sort of wardrobe malfunction every time I read the phrase!

  15. Otaku fairy says:

🎻🎻🎻“You can’t imagine how it messes with your self-esteem working in an environment where the worst thing you can be in the world is a Republican during the Trump years.” Republicans and their enablers throughout those years can’t imagine how unhealthy and traumatic it is for others to have to constantly act like they care about the feelings of people with inherently violent, dehumanizing beliefs. Especially while seeing other people hurt and put at risk because of those beliefs, or being put at risk because of them yourself.

  16. MissMarirose says:

After Meghan tweeted her thanks to people mag about her post-partum anxiety story, Kathy Griffin tweeted her sympathies and good wishes to Meghan . . . but with a screenshot of an old article in which Meghan made nasty comments about Kathy’s lung cancer diagnosis.

  17. Nicole says:

When your dad fires you from his campaign, you should know that you have some difficulty with people skills. It is not your job to be liked. If you are hurt, maybe you can look at your part as to why one of your co-workers didn’t miss you. You worked at Fox News and once you got out of that bubble you found that a lot of people don’t agree with the Fox perspective. Did you take that as a learning experience? No, you went full Karen. The onus does not fall on Whoopi, nor Joy, nor your new baby to make you feel good about yourself. Happiness is an inside job. Here’s to hoping that you on scrolling the internet for your mentions and you actually read this.

  18. ML says:

You know, I’ve never seen The View in my life, and yet I know exactly who Meghan McCain is and pretty much what she stands for. Somehow that feels wrong. I moved from the US to Holland a couple of decades ago. At the time I would have called The Netherlands a socialist country (which is totally wrong). The Netherlands is more like a libertarian/ conservative country, but comparing the conservative Dutch to someone like Meghan doesn’t work because a hell of a lot of her politics are totally soulless.

  19. Stan says:

The reason she would not go against Republicans and really even Trump is because she married into a grifter family who made lots of money (and connections) off Trump and his unlawful antics. She is happily living off the Trump teat to maintain her lifestyle.

She also complained that she had to go back to work right after her father died. She was off work for 4 months. What average person gets 4 months off work when a parent dies?

    • BothSidesNow says:

She will forever be the ungrateful, white woman victim of progressives hatred. MM has been living off of that tag line for years now and will continue to do so. This leopard has not and will not change her spots for anyone or any thing!!

  20. teehee says:

    That headline tho lol

  21. Barbie1 says:

I watched the episode where Joy said she didn’t miss her and you could tell that hurt her feelings. She should have been kind to a new mother, many of whom suffer with post partem. Even if it was Meghan.

    • Southern Fried says:

Why should Joy shine her on? Does Megan no favors by coddling. It’s an important lesson she desperately needs to learn. Hopefully. Call it tough love.

    • Jolanda says:

This woman was constantly caustic rude and intrusive to Joy and many of the women on the panel. That particular day with joy she had been interrupting her while Joy was trying to make her point. She then tried to be cute and turn the situation around by announcing that she just knew Joy missed her while she was gone. Joy is nothing but honest and straightforward. She answered honestly. Since when is being honest being a negative. Joy had more patience with her for much longer than I ever could have if I were in her shoes. This woman only knows how to play a victim while telling the world how she is a straight shooter and tough as nails. Nutmeg McCain is a joke.

    • Deering24 says:

Hey, people get what they give.

    • Valerie says:

Who cares? Joy, like the rest of them at the studio and the viewers at home, was sick of putting up with her. No need to coddle toxic people.

  22. minx says:

Meghan McCain thinks everything revolves around her.

  23. Steph says:

“I would never say that to a woman who just got back from maternity leave.” I hate that false feminist shit. Just cuz she had a baby doesn’t suddenly make her likeable and isn’t a reason for people to start lying to her about her ugly personality. Did she think Joy was going to suddenly start being her best friend?

  24. Queen Anne says:

Did she ever watch a recording of herself on the show? Even once? She was not a victim. She was rude, abrasive and constantly cut both the guests and other hosts off. Her entire goal every day was to get across her husband’s talking points.

  25. AmelieOriginal says:

First off, I didn’t realize an audio memoir was a thing! I thought she was coming out with a real book. I read the full excerpt of some of her audiobook provided to Variety, you can read it here: https://variety.com/2021/tv/news/meghan-mccain-quit-the-view-1235092070/. I am not a fan of hers but I do think the stuff she mentions, like the level of misogyny happening behind the scenes and the toxic working environment are things that get pushed under the rug. It is well-documented that the show has a revolving door of hosts parting ways with the show acrimoniously and I’m not just talking about hosts that are disliked like Meghan (who left on pretty good terms actually at the time) or Rosie O’Donnell. And sure, the show comes with that reputation but I think many hosts don’t understand what they’re signing up for. Just because the show has that reputation doesn’t make it okay at all. The show should have ended when Barbara Walters retired (I can’t understand why she is proud of the show because it has a horrible history of demeaning and pitting women against each other).

But Meghan is annoying, full stop. They were probably relieved when she was on maternity leave (I would have been in their shoes!). I do empathize with her feeling fragile and vulnerable coming back to work after a baby. Joy Behar (who I’ve never liked either) didn’t have to say on live TV “No didn’t miss you,” it was rude and uncalled for. But this shows why I hate The View so much, with women constantly putting each other down. I hated it in elementary school back in the 90s and I hate it today.

  26. janinedm says:

A subtext that’s never mentioned is that off the top of my head Whoopi, Joy Behar, Babara Walters, Meredith Vieira were all self-made women. Joy’s dad was a truck driver. Meredith Vieira’s parents were immigrants. Whoopi was raised in the projects. They’re at the table after literal decades of hard work. Whoopi had achieved EGOT status before McCain had her dad arrange her first job. So, Megan’s stupidity must have been even more galling in the context of her lack of personal accomplishment. She’s complaining about it being too hard to defend her positions while sitting at a table where she didn’t belong. Yes, they were all better at making arguments, but they’re not your siblings who have to let you win at Connect Four.

    • EllenOlenska says:

@janinedm that is an amazing point about truly earning a seat at the table! The others were self made and must really have a certain skepticism/contempt for the “started life on third base and think they hit a home run” crew.

  27. Mel says:

Here’s the thing… let’s cut her off from receiving any attention and sucking up all the air with her gross stupidity. Don’t give this twit anymore free publicity.

  28. Tiffany says:

Who she fooling with this crap.

The tide turned when she learned that ratings were up when she was on maternity leave and people like Ana had a better Q rating than her in her absence.

That is when she realized she was the problem and the new president of the network wasn’t playing her games like the last one.

Always a victim this one pretends to be.

  29. Well Wisher says:

    Interesting.

  30. Silent Star says:

It sounds like if she was a more likeable and more qualified person with values that respect all kinds of people, they might have tolerated her Republicanism. Sounds like she can’t see the shortcomings of her own personality.

  31. Valerie says:

She was horrendous. She was unabashedly antagonistic and played the victim every chance she got. Her behaviour got worse after she returned from mat leave. Not only did she whine and complain, but she also called for Fauci to be fired because she couldn’t push her way to the front of the vaccine line, and she was soft on conspiracy theorists and their bullshit.
