Prince Harry wants to pay for his family’s protection in the UK & they won’t let him

It was as predictable as can be, which is probably why Prince Harry was prepared. As soon as the royal sh-t hit the fan with Prince Andrew last week, Prince Harry and Meghan knew that they would be attacked by the British media in short order. It was just a matter of what story the Daily Mail chose to lie about and exploit. That story? “Prince Harry demands police protection when he visits the UK!” The Daily Mail and other outlets were all geared up to attack Harry as out-of-touch for “demanding” that British taxpayers pay for his family’s security when they visit the UK. Those headlines had to be rewritten in a hurry on Saturday night, because Harry was prepared, and his spokesperson issued a complete and detailed statement the moment the stories dropped (still, there was some remnants of the old storyline: “SARAH VINE: Prince Harry, if you still want security for the family, make sure your mates at Netflix pay for it”). So here’s what was actually happening:

Prince Harry is seeking a judicial review against a Home Office decision preventing him from personally funding police protection for himself and his family while in the UK. In response to a leak in a UK tabloid, a legal spokesperson for the Duke of Sussex, 37, said on Saturday that it was “necessary to release a statement setting the facts straight” regarding Harry’s pleas for security after his claim for a judicial review was filed in September.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex personally fund a private security team for their family, yet that security cannot replicate the necessary police protection needed while in the UK. In the absence of such protection, Prince Harry and his family are unable to return to his home,” the statement read.

Since stepping back from their roles as senior member roles of the royal family in 2020, Harry and wife Meghan Markle lost their taxpayer-funded police protection. The Duke first offered to personally pay for UK security for himself and his family in January of that year during a visit to Sandringham, per the statement. Though that offer was rejected, the Duke’s spokesperson said he remains willing to cover the cost of security, “as not to impose on the British taxpayer.”

“The goal for Prince Harry has been simple – to ensure the safety of himself and his family while in the UK so his children can know his home country,” the statement continued. The spokesperson also mentioned Harry’s trip to the UK last July to unveil a statue in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana. During the visit, his security was “compromised due to the absence of police protection” while leaving a charity event.

“With the lack of police protection, comes too great a personal risk. Prince Harry hopes that his petition — after close to two years of pleas for security in the UK — will resolve this situation,” the statement added.

[From People]

I’m including the full text of Harry’s spokesperson’s statement below. “With surreptitious timing” is sending me – Harry’s out here saying “yeah, I knew you trash motherf–kers would make up some sh-t about me as soon as Prince Andrew lost his patronages.” As for the security issue… that answers some questions I had, because I knew that Harry did have regular “royal protection” when he went to the UK for Prince Philip’s funeral and the statue unveiling. Harry has been petitioning the British government to pay for his own (better) security in the UK and he’s been turned down. The royal-protection police unit is truly like “what don’t you get? We’re not going to protect you or your family and we’ll block you from paying for your own security or bringing your own.”

They want to Diana him. No one can convince me otherwise.

On the plus side this puts a block on any possibility of H&M bringing their kids to Salty Island, chock on that!

    • Haylie says:

No. They want to scare him back into the fold as Will’s whipping boy.

They want to “Diana” Meghan, Archie and Lilibet.

      • Tessa says:

ANd like the stans wish, he can be “taken care of” by Will and Kate and be their third wheel and scapegoated. So horrible.

      • BabsORIG says:

@Haylie, don’t be so sure. At this point, its clear they could “Diana” Harry himself within a heart beat and with no remorse whatsoever. The last 2 times Harry returned to the UK would have been very hard for them to murder him because he was with some BRF senior member and he was too visible. They’re scared of sending a hitman to Frogmore cottage, its way too obvious. My prayers are for the Lord’s protection of the Sussex family. And if harry knows what’s best for him, he would steer way clear of the UK.

      • RoyalAssassin says:

You’re spot on, BabsORIG: they’re a bunch of savages, and that’s never going to change. As for the rest, I’m too angry to comment: these people are just plain scum.

    • myjobistoprincess says:

Protection never to be approved for Harry & his family & purposely rejected to make him never return home is fckn lame. From your own family. The RF for sure would say they’re fckn brilliant , but they keep going lower and lower to the rest of the world. Salty island people cannot be down with this, it is cruel to a point I never would have imagined.

    • Emma says:

I feel terrified for their safety and am also for the first time reconsidering how much the royals may have been involved in Diana’s death. Pretty grim all round.

    • Same says:

Diana got into a car with a drunk driver who then crashed in a tunnel and she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The BRF had nothing to do with her poor decisions. She was a private citizen that had a security detail and she was in France.

      • equality says:

Her sister said Di was strict about fastening her seatbelt so why not that day, especially if the driver was speeding? Some reports say hers wasn’t working. Curious. Some also question if the driver was drunk and why the bodyguard would let somebody that obviously drunk drive if that were true.

      • BabsORIG says:

@ Same, yeah, keep repeating this talking point that the BRF put out after Dian’s was murdered, maybe it will become the truth, somehow.

      • Tessa says:

Rees Jones, the sole survivor was on the Al Fayed Payroll as bodyguard. He has amnesia and cannot remember what happened or how he let allegedly “drunk” Henri Paul get behind the wheel. Diana always buckled up and how come Rees Jones did not check the seatbelts first. ANd Diana had no part in the decision, when she was unconscious, and put in an ambulance that passed a hospital ten minutes away and it took a very long time to get her to a hospital when she was bleeding to death. Maybe the strap of the seatbelt did not reach around Diana’s waist even though the mechanism “buckled.” I think the BRF made the poor decisions, the way they treated Diana.

      • sid says:

Sorry Same, that story is no longer believable after everything we have learned about the ratchet royal family. Time for a new talking point.

      • aftershocks says:

^^ Exactly @equality, @Tessa, @BabsORIG, and @sid. Watch the below investigative documentary which is well-researched. There are a lot of remaining questions: everything from problems with consistency and veracity of toxicology reports on the driver; to why did it take an hour for the ambulance to arrive at a hospital that was 10 minutes away; to the fact that witnesses were not followed up with by police; to the presence of a mysterious white vehicle that was seen in the tunnel at the time of the crash; plus the relevant identity of a man who was later found burned to death in a similar white vehicle. There’s a lot more that I won’t recite here. Watch the documentary:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LmqUIkbEosY

I believe Diana’s death was as a result of a sanctioned hit, but I’m not certain if any senior member of the royal family was directly involved. More likely, courtiers and U.K. gov’t spy agency signed off, and/or got someone in the family to sign off (possibly in an underhanded way).

Just like JFK’s assassination, there’s lots of damning evidence of a wide-ranging conspiracy with LH Oswald as the patsy, but there will never be full, final comprehensive, bulls-eye proof. However, the damning evidence in both cases is more than enough. Many people find it easier and more comforting to continue drinking the kool-aid.

      • bettyrose says:

I feel like everyone who was following the RF at the time of Diana’s death finds it hard to believe it was purely coincidental that she died just as she was on the verge of becoming their biggest headache ever. Diana in New York as an American celebrity? Diana remarried? Diana giving William and Harry siblings, possibly with the last name Fayed? Even if it wasn’t a calculated “hit,” someone was ensuring the circumstances were ripe for tragedy. I can’t fathom how anyone believes otherwise.

      • Christine says:

It’s cute that you are blaming Diana for her own death, 25 years on, Same. I’m sure that’s a huge comfort to the people who actually were impacted by her death. FFS, get a little perspective and a lot of critical thinking.

    • PaulaH says:

The RF and the British Government may think that their continued attacks on the Sussex’s a good thing but what they don’t realize that outside of the UK they continue to lose the favor of the World. The death of the British RF will simply be their need rabid need to bring Harry to his knees.

    • HeyJude says:

Absolutely, that became clear when security was originally pulled as a punitive measure.

They either want him dead or don’t care if he dies in a security failure.

This “family” is really a mafia family. And Harry “crossed” them just as Diana did.

It’s no wonder they let Russian mobster oligarchs galavant all over London, they’re the exact same type of people.

      • bettyrose says:

Withdrawing titles is a punitive measure. Removing their names from official sources is a punitive measure. Bashing them in the press is a punitive measure. Pulling security is a threat.

  2. Lady+Digby says:

Omid Scobie tweeted that Charles paid for Cam’s security from 2002 years before engagement and marriage. RF want to exile Harry and family from the land of his birth. Tabloids are being leaked stories stirring up hatred by Royal sources and who knows what will provoke someone to harm Harry’s family? But he not allowed to access the best security even if he pays for it? They have been invited to the memorial and Jubilee but no consideration to suitable security??

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Waity Keen McButtons got taxpayer funded Royal protection from 2007 onwards, so yes they can provide this.

      • lucy2 says:

And all Harry is asking for is a few days a year, at most. Crazy.

      • Yvette says:

@Lady+Digby … Someone also Tweeted an article from Kate Moss’s wedding, in which it was stated that she’d paid for a police detail. So them saying “A ‘paid’ police security team! Why, it’s just not done!” are lying. It has been done, and by people who weren’t born a Prince of the British Realm.

Also, with Harry’s lawyers releasing his legal brief submitted to the High Court everyone is aware of the British Home Office’s refusal of his request to pay for security for his family. But best of all, the world is aware, and we’re watching.

    • Kalana says:

Robert Jobson said retired Scottish PPOs were hired to be Camilla’s security and could liaise with the police. I wonder if they were also allowed to be armed? Harry’s security isn’t allowed to do either of these things.

      • GraceB says:

So there is precedent for hiring security for other members of the royal family. Why can’t Harry do the same? It doesn’t make sense that he can’t. When Kate or Camilla’s security was paid for, was it the Met or Scotland Yard, or was it retired officers?

    • The Hench says:

Am I right in thinking that William also did the same thing for Kate before they were engaged?

ETA sorry, DU,, Commented at the same time as you

    • Tessa says:

Charles also housed Camilla’s father in Clarence House (some years before C and C married) and he got security.

    • LaraW” says:

Does mummy’s precious pedophile still get security paid by the British taxpayer?

    • equality says:

PA also pays for RPO’s supplied by the Yard to guard B&E. Current officers, not retired. I don’t know which Cam’s were but even retired would still have connections and be able to do more than US guards. I wish the police here would tell any RF members wanting to come to US that they can’t liaise with them and they can’t bring weapons.

    • Gubbinal says:

Exactly and precisely, Lady+Digby. Who might hire security? Politicians. Certain Diplomats.
Rock stars, movie stars, a violinist with a Stradivarius, a rich guy with an original Van Gogh. Specialists in many areas.

Would the UK not permit these people to hire security? This seems tantamount to collusion to endanger recklessly the lives of innocent civilians.

    • notasugarhere says:

There were taxpayer-funded RPOs doing security sweeps for Pipper’s struggle book signings too.

    • ElleE says:

Royals don’t have to pay for their own RaSP services, right? Can any Brits explain? The Met has a budget and RaSP is in that budget. This must mean that where an individual does not meet the risk criteria for personal protection (below from the Met website), they can, reimburse for RaSP costs? If there is a taxpayer funded budget for RaSP and some process for determining who is covered, then it must be that Harry asked to be considered a “protected principal” and an analysis of his level of risk showed that he did not meet that level of risk?

That seems bonkers as innocent citizens can be hurt in an attack on just one individual. RaSP doesn’t seem like a luxury, it is there to protect everyone near a high-risk individual.

      “Royalty and Specialist Protection (RaSP)
This command provides overt static and mobile protective security to royal residences. It also provides discreet close protection to a number of protected principals from the Royal Family, government (both on UK soil and overseas) and to certain visiting Heads of State. RaSP also provides mobile protection to the movement of certain protected persons or sensitive loads by deployment of the Special Escort Group…All deployments with travelling principals are authorised by a Strategic Protection Commander, depending on risk, and managed by a Lead Protection Officer responsible for the tactical delivery of the deployment.”

    • LFrimaire says:

I don’t think they’ll mess with their safety at official royal events. Everyone will be watching. On the other hand, Putin had poisoned or strangled a bunch of Russian dissidents in the UK, so where was UK intelligence?

  3. blackfemmebot says:

It has never been more clear to me that the BRF does not care about Meghan and their children’s lives or safety. M even said in the Oprah interview that she understood that hers and Archie’s protection was not a priority to them but she begged them to keep her husband safe. The BRF does not care and I hope H&M and their babies never return to that vile island.

    • L84Tea says:

It’s clear as day. They don’t care about him or his family, and they don’t care if something happens to them. And the fact that it appears they want them completely vulnerable to attacks is sickening on another level. This sort of news is really upsetting to hear. It’s completely disturbing and sinister. But man do I applaud Harry for blowing their narrative up as quick as he did. He singlehandedly turned the narrative back in the right direction, leaving the RR’s looking like fools, and just shot down any future stories about why they won’t be at the jubilee. I hope they never ever go back.

    • HeyJude says:

Yes, they must not return. They are clearly in danger in Britain. I hope they do not come for the Jubilee.

If it could happen to Lord Mountbatten and Diana, it could happen again.

  4. Emily says:

The way they’re denying his request for security and then advertising it is honestly so sinister. I hope they all stay away from the UK.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Emily: This was leaked either by the Royal Family to get Andrew off the front pages or by the Home Office to get Boris off the front pages.

      • Veda says:

Or both leaked it. The palace, Tory government and the Daily Mail are a trifecta. Daily Fail loses and bam, the govt starts making noises about a new law. William complains about the Princes and the Press and bam, the reporter, Amol Rajan, is passed for a post he was bound to get in the BBC. Boris is in a soup and this is leaked with sound bytes from the Palace. The worst part- certain Britons seem to notice this and don’t care.

      • carrotface says:

I immediately assumed it was to distract from Andrew but it just made me wonder whether Andrew is still getting his security paid for? I assume yes! Which shows how stupid the BRF is, did they not realize that leaking this story would just make lots of people be like “wait how much security is being paid for, possibly by taxpayers, for Andy” about two seconds after reading the article? So for me at least it seems to shine a bigger spotlight on what they wanted to distract from!

      • A says:

Ordinarily I would agree. But this truly doesn’t serve either of their purpose’s. Boris will have the jubilee to hide behind in a couple months along with any dirt (see: Chinese spies) he can fling at other parties. And, while the royal family is run by morons who can’t pr there way out of a paper bag, even they know the family needs to look less chaotic for the next couple months, and stories like this don’t do that! The daily Fail on the other hand, is run by a billionaire Lord with lots of government connections who just got named and shamed by the 6th in lines wife! It’s most likely that there redoubling their efforts via legal and illegal means to make the Sussex’s lives hell! That being said I personally think it will backfire in part because the Sussex’s are in The US and they don’t have much clout here!

      • windyriver says:

@A The family (Charles) may know they need to look less chaotic for a few months. William’s pretty stupid though, and twice failed via JK to help torpedo Meghan’s case. On top of that, as you say Rothemere was personally named and shamed. No doubt the DM believes KP owes them. The leak most likely came from there, but it might have been a while ago. It’s a twofer for the DM. They make more trouble for M&H, but also, some payback to the RF over losing the case. The full story was bound to come out, that the family denied H&M’s security request at every step. Now Charles and William look even more cold, uncaring and sinister than before.

    • RoyalBlue says:

This is what they want. They want them never to return to the UK. They have effectively banished them.

  5. Nev says:

Yes I hope it stays here. Don’t go. Again. Ever. Keep your family and yourself safe.

    • LaraW” says:

Does anyone know what the security breach they’re referring to with respect to Harry visiting a charity while he was in the UK for the Diana statue unveiling? The way they phrased it— was it that he had no RPO’s at all, or they just… didn’t do their jobs??

      • equality says:

I’d be afraid of that scenario: that they wouldn’t do their job.

      • Athena says:

@Laraw. He had no royal protection officers and someone set it up for him to be chased by paparazzi. The only protection he had during the statue unveiling visit were the people he brought with him from the U.S.

      • LaraW” says:

        Thanks @Athena!

      • RoyalAssassin says:

He visited a WellKids meet in Kew Gardens; photographers chased him, no doubt triggering a Diana scenario in him, and his security did nothing…ROYAL security. These people should be shot. Seriously. A CURSE UPON THEIR CRUMBLING HOUSE.

  6. Lurker8 says:

All I can think of is did Diana refuse security or was she denied that right which ultimately led to her death? The British royal family and government decided to try and kill Harry and his family.
The biggest lie we were told is the BRF were masters in soft diplomacy. The image they are showing the world is they are willing to deny mental healthcare, security and support to its members.
They look so bad on the world stage.
If the secret service protected Harry in New York city then the UK home office downplaying the threat risks for Harry is a bad look.
If any harm comes to Harry or his family then the blame lies with 3 people. Elizabeth, Charles and William. What a disgrace.

    • Zen says:

Diana refused royal protection officers. She thought they were spying on her and reporting back to the RF.

      • BabsORIG says:

There is absolutely NO evidence to support this rumor (Diana refused protection) that was put out by the BRF AFTER Princess Diana’s death; none. It is my strongest belief, after these fuckers’ attempts at Harry and his family’s lives when they removed security and then leaked their where abouts (and pretty much everything else that transpired before that), that the BRF were complicit in Diana’s murder. This latest statement just cements this fact firmer. Also the fact that the plan was always for Meghan and Archie to get killed and for Harry to die of depression as a broken hearted man. These people are vile.

      • equality says:

Did she actually say that or was this an after-her-death claim by the RF?

      • Sue+Denim says:

BabsORIG, is that true? I always took it as fact but wondered too, it seemed almost suicidal and Diana by this time had a lot to live for, esp her boys… But I def thought it again when Charles pulled security from Harry and family when they were most vulnerable… Either way, what an awful person PC turned out to be…

      • Nic919 says:

There are letters by her former Secretary and others that confirm she refused RPO protection and they were produced at the inquest. Now maybe she was misled as to her reasons for refusing it, but she did refuse RPOs. Now it’s unfortunate that no one was able to set her up with something equivalent but that’s another issue.

      • equality says:

@Nic919 Letters by a secretary and others that could have been written any time and only produced after her death? Anything actually confirmed as signed by her by an independent party? After they tried to pull stunts on H, including claiming he signed off on a statement that he did not, I trust nothing that comes from UK official sources.

      • BabsORIG says:

@Nic919, all these letters and communication came out AFTER Diana died and she couldn’t defend herself against any of these claims. More attempts to paint Diana as paranoid and mentally unstable. All was a calculated cover up. Remember the statement that was “signed” by HARRY and William that William never bullied the Sussexes out of the country? Remember the claims that the Sussexes had Charles payed protection in Canada which was actually not true but the truth was Charles yanked protection and exposed his son and his son’s young family? Yeah, no evidence to support that claim that Diana refused protection.

      • Nic919 says:

Diana’s friend Rosa Monckton also confirmed that Diana no longer wanted RPO protection because she felt they were reporting what she did to Charles. (And it’s likely she was correct).

I’m no fan of the BRF and how they are treating Harry, but Diana could have decided she did not want RPOs even if it was based on inaccurate information.

      • goofpuff says:

Diana’s friends who came out talking after she died weren’t her real friends. I wouldn’t trust what Rosa Monckton was saying if she’s talking to the press.

I see how Diana wouldn’t want RPOs, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t use them with her own security team. Or it didn’t mean Charles also didn’t want to pull them anyway like he did for Harry.

    • LaraW” says:

How did the BRF become THIS dysfunctional? I mean, we all know now that the dysfunction has always been there, but this just seems to set a new low.

Was there just this fundamental turning point when Meghan entered the family that just blew up every Windsor insecurity? I can’t help but compare some of it to post-Obama, when mediocre white men and their mediocre white wives felt so threatened by the competence and power of a black man that they voted Donald f-ckin Trump to the White House, who we all know sat around watching tv coverage of himself while tweeting in his shit-soggy diapers.

Was it this bad in the Diana years? Did that lay the foundation and the entrance of beautiful, glowing, intelligent, charismatic, caring Meghan broke Windsor & Windsor LLP’s collective backs?

      • Tessa says:

Diana started to get the “treatment” ca. the mid 1980s when stories were leaked to the media about her. And it got worse after that.

      • HeyJude says:

It became a mess as soon as Elizabeth became Queen. George was a fairly steady King and well disciplined.

Elizabeth tried to mimic this but is utterly dysfunctional as a human being and had horrible influences in Phillip, her mother without her father, etc. So she’s been totally incapable from the start and the “discipline” she thought she used was perverted into the sinister and punitive.

Margaret was treated with this same pariah treatment, remember. As were Wallis/Edward in their end years even as they were ill and dying despite their issues being with her father. Sarah was treated with a bit of it. The Spencers weren’t well treated either.

      • aftershocks says:

        @Hey Jude said:
“George was a fairly steady King and well disciplined…”

^^ Honestly, King George VI (QE-II’s father) had a lot of issues. While he was a fairly decent person in many respects, he was extremely nervous and known to be quite temperamental behind-the-scenes. As we know, he had acquired a severe stammering affliction during childhood. Queen Mary is said to have loved her children, but she was stiff, formal and non-demonstrative around them. In addition, King George V was a strict, gruff, military-inspired father. There were other family dysfunctions as well, the seeds of which came from the Hanovers and from Queen Victoria’s dislike of bearing and raising children (even though QV was madly in love with her husband, Prince Albert).

Bottom line: King George VI relied heavily on Churchill and courtiers, much like QE-II did and does, especially coming to the throne at the age of 25 (without her parents having provided her with a comprehensive academic education). George VI (very similar to ‘incandescent’ Will) would often fly into rages behind-the-scenes. Unlike Will, only George VI’s wife (E. Bowes-Lyon, the Queen Mother) could calm him. LOL!

    • RoyalAssassin says:

Diana’s protection was WITHDRAWN: same as Harry’s. The BRF did NOTHING for her. One of the reasons she liked being with Dodi’s father (because her and the boys stayed on his island a couple of times before she hooked up with Dodi) was due to the high-level security he provided. He is and was a billionaire, and he had helicopters, crack security, and privacy, and she loved it. It was on one of those island visits she met Dodi.

  7. Amy+T says:

Despicable. It’s like there’s no floor with this family; they just keep going lower. I really feel for Harry – even if you become used to the low-level cruelty it’s still jarring when it rears its head in public.

    • Jais says:

I felt shaky and so angry when reading this. Now, they’re saying he can’t just request police protection whenever he wants it, even if he pays for it, bc it burdens the police force. But I’ve been seeing examples online where people have requested police help. Also that they should just hire retired officers but do they have the guns and current intelligence for that to work?
Like where are the people in the media and the people in the uk who are outraged and willing to speak up for Harry and his family. So he’s made to walk in front of the world behind his mom’s coffins, be hounded by the media, have his phone tapped, and now this. He whole existence has provided entertainment for the masses his whole life, just by being born who he is, and this is how he gets treated. He now has to live in fear for his safety and his family’s safety for the rest of his life? Bc his family is petty and propped up by a petty media. How close is rothemere to the police? This is so unjust. I just can’t.

      • RoyalAssassin says:

I felt the same, Jais: it just sickens me. Something’ gotta give, and when it does, it’s not going to be the way these sub-humans think it will be. They’re going down, and I personally can’t wait.

      • Nuks says:

It makes me think of the movie The Truman Show. It wasn’t just a statement on surveillance, it was about life as a celebrity. Royalty were the first celebrities and they’ve been hunted since the beginning.

      • Chana says:

Few police in the UK carry weapons, so it’s likely they want access to police intel etc.

I do think that this was leaked by Boris Johnson to deflect from all the nonsense he’s guilty of. That being said, there is an emergency worker shortage globally, and I think that’s why this was leaked to make Harry and Megan look entitled. Where I am, 911 puts you on hold. I don’t think anyone is comfortable with the idea of renting police whenever you like, I know I’m not.

      • BabsORIG says:

@Chana, there is no 911 in the UK, its a 999. If 911 puts you on hold in yr area, don’t blame that on the UK. Also, you might not like the idea of rent a police but it does really happen lots of times.

      • Juniper says:

@Chana, ever go to a McDonald’s or a Burger King after a high school football game? The police there are off-duty cops being paid as security. It’s done all the time in the U.S.

This is truly, truly sad. I honestly don’t see the problem – he’s prepared to pay for it, so why can’t he have it? (And actually, he should have it anyway, money grousing by various special interests aside – Priti Patel is being immensely petty here, surprise surprise). We recently had an MP murdered in his constituency by an Islamic terrorist and a whole debate about whether MPs should have increased security (and another MP was murdered in her constituency by a white supremacist terrorist in 2016), and Harry and Meghan are far more recognisable than any of the MPs with the possible exception of the Prime Minister and a handful of members of the Cabinet, all of whom have police protection. The white supremacist plots against Harry and Meghan in the UK have barely received any news coverage but they have received some, so we know that what he’s saying is true, and considering that they’re targeted not only by white supremacists but also by Islamists due to Harry’s military service, they’re probably the most at risk of the entire royal family. And if they were to come back with the kids and have something happen, it would make Diana’s death and the public reaction to it seem trivial. It would be a huge international incident with far-reaching political ramifications for the entire Commonwealth, it would make the royal family and government look even worse than they already do, and it would blow Charles and William’s attempted revisionist history and projected reigns to smithereens – they would never be able to escape from it and its fallout.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Jane: Priti Patel is not doing this without consultation with the Royal Family. She would have called BP for their input and it’s obvious that they said no.

    • BabsORIG says:

@Jane, what @Amy Bee says. Its Harry’s family that was him, Meghan and children ALL dead. Priti is just being used as a vessel to achieve these goals.

      • RoyalAssassin says:

Sickening and disgusting comment: AND ALL TRUE. God this whole thing makes me ill…they actually want them dead. I can’t get over the fact that they’ve shown their hand: it’s out there. My God…

    • Sheri says:

The problem is he wants to use the police. They are allowed to hire all the private security they want, they’re being denied the option to “pick and choose” police officers to serve them while they’re visiting. Harry specifically wants the officers that were assigned to him in the past. They’ve moved on and are doing other things now.

      • Nic919 says:

Nowhere in Harry’s statement does it say he wants the RPOs who worked with him before. Any other source is spin to discredit his perfectly valid claim for security.

      • liz says:

I think the real issue is that private security is not allowed to be armed in the UK. RPOs can carry concealed weapons, as can certain levels of police officers. Harry is asking to be allowed to pay for the use of armed body guards while in the UK.

California (similar to NY), with its relatively strict gun control laws, allows private security teams to carry guns – the the bodyguards Harry has in CA are armed to the teeth – which would not be permitted in the UK.

      • vs says:

@Sheri — with all due respect you are lying! no where in his statement did H said that! he wants the same thing Tony Blair with the exception that he WANTS to PAY! if you people don’t want that, then you should allow his own private security to carry weapons! the fact that paparazzi followed him is scary…… either you don’t know and please say so instead of blatantly lying the way you did!

      • Christine says:

Sheri, I don’t know you, but I’m seriously questioning your competence if you think Harry whipped up a memo stating, “I need Bill, Dan, Miriam, and Pete, on my service, we were proper pals.”

  9. Belli says:

Meghan, Archie and Lili need to stay away from the UK for their own safety. To have the RF shouting with a megaphone, “They’re unprotected! Come and get them!”

They want them dead. There is no other way to interpret it.

    • LaraW” says:

In the long run, I think this is true. For now, however, I think they were trying to set the stage for a slew of media coverage screaming about “will H&M attend the Jubilee or not? Were they invited? Will Elizabeth snub them? They allegedly did or didn’t receive a personal invitation from Elizabeth but Harry hasn’t responded. H&M are arriving on such and such date, with/without Archie and Lilli, and questions about that g-ddamn christening. Just walls of coverage obsessed with the Sussexes, while behind the scenes the RF make it impossible for H&M to return to the UK without taking major risks on their personal safety.

This announcement neatly puts the ball in thr RF and the UK government’s court and undermines some of the hysterical coverage the BM was planning to unleash, all of it briefed by CH and KP. Because I don’t think Charles or William want the Sussexes there at all. This is Charles’ first moment in the sun, I think, and he’s too jealous to relinquish that spotlight.

      • windyriver says:

This makes some sense, especially about Charles wanting the spotlight, and he (and Will) not wanting the Sussexes there at all.

But – ultimately, the media DO want them in the UK from time to time. Having to cover the Sussexes from afar especially as they get busier is going to get very old very fast. I wouldn’t bet on the invisible contract holding them back if the BM think there’s money to be made talking about the many questionable activities of the family right there in front of them. Stories about how Kate is such a pearl won’t feed that appetite much longer.

      • notasugarhere says:

I think Charles wants them there, William does not. Charles wants to be perceived as the loving family patriarch, even though he doesn’t love most of his close or extended family. Charles needs to be seen publicly embracing Harry, Meghan, and their kids.

p.s. He might also want Harry there as a physical buffer in case William tries to shove Charles off the balcony. Just saying.

      • windyriver says:

@nota – I could buy that, except – if Charles wants them there, why is he possibly interfering with Harry being allowed to pay for the security he needs? Why isn’t he supporting it when he knows it’s possible, and he himself has done it? He knows Harry won’t travel there without it. And how likely would Harry be to want to participate in any of Charles’ happy family patriarch scenarios if either of the above are true? Is William such a problem, that Charles just chooses to stay out of it, and is relying on Harry’s ability to solve the problem himself? Hmmm. Maybe so.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’m more inclined to think William is the one putting pressure to make sure Harry doesn’t get protection. William wants the UK, Diana’s legacy, access to the Spencer family, and Diana’s grave all under his control.

      • windyriver says:

Well, William’s pathetic enough for that to be true. Unfortunately for him, he’s already lost re: Diana’s legacy. With everything Harry does, it’s more and more clear who follows in Diana’s footsteps. It didn’t have to be only one of them, but that’s Will’s choice. Harry’s also following in his father’s footsteps, where work of value is concerned. I believe at this point Charles knows this, that Will is a poor option to follow him and all his achievements, as the next king. I hope the monarchy is worth all the collateral damage coming to the surface. I doesn’t seem like much of a prize.

    • Tessa says:

Charles is the grandfather of Archie and Lily, ANd the Queen the great grand mother. How can they be so cold!!! What a super dysfunctional family. Charles backing William instead of Harry was just horrible to watch The Queen sits back and does nothing, I think she noticed how William behaved and has gotten so power hungry. She should have put him in his place ages ago.

    • Sheri says:

They are not unprotected. They will be bringing all the same security they employ in the US. They are being denied the option of using the police on top that while visiting the UK, even if they cover the cost. They are allowed to hire as much private security as they want, but they can’t pull the specific officers they want away from their usual duties.

      • Nic919 says:

Again this is said nowhere in Harry’s statement.
If Harry can have security that is properly armed in the UK the. He’s a sitting duck. Finger guns don’t work here. And clearly he needs the intelligence on potential threats because he already ran into a security incident in July.

It’s pretty despicable to deny proper security to a UK citizen and his family who have been the relentless subject of a hate campaign in the UK and pretend that they don’t really need the same protection as other family members some of whom are not being threatened by white supremacy groups.

      • vs says:

@Sheri — I see that you are not only a LIAR but a troll too; your comment above gave the benefit of the doubt but I clearly see your role here is to lie and misinform

      • aftershocks says:

As @Nic919 responded to you @Sheri, Harry’s statement speaks for itself, and it did not include what you have claimed. It is my understanding that Harry’s personal, U.S.-based bodyguards can not carry firearms for protective usage while in the U.K. Plus, Harry’s own security detail do not have U.K. jurisdiction, nor access to crucial intelligence knowledge in that country. These set of circumstances make Harry, Meghan, Archie and Lilibet, all sitting ducks to the dangers of whatever could happen in the U.K. absent full, appropriate, secure, and safe protection.

    • Tessa says:

Harry should try to avoid leaving his family. especially since his brother is actively plotting against him and his family.

  10. D says:

I think it’s confusing because Harry is saying he does have personal protection but in the UK that just isn’t enough, he also needs the police protection because it seems they work in a very specific way. So people are all “use your own security” but he is saying he would do that but also needs the specific type of police security in addition and would willingly pay for it himself. It’s crazy to me that the actual government is saying no, not just his family.

    • Zen says:

Harry explained the UK police security is different from his personal security. The police type is linked in to information on attacks, plans, chatter. That type of stuff. They know more and hence can protect better than Harry’s personal force while he and family are in the UK.

      • Gabby says:

I think that only the UK police is allowed to carry firearms. Private security is not allowed to carry.

      • vs says:

@Zen — there is also the fact that his private security can’t carry weapons in the UK which is very different from the US

    • Cessily says:

I am sure his US security has high level security clearances for the USA government and work with local/state/federal law enforcement agencies to keep the Sussex family safe and secure at home and while out. They are all licensed to carry firearms here. He needs that level of protection in Britain also and the only way to receive armed protection with high level security clearances is to go through the MET and home office like every high profile Person does wether they are a citizen or not. The only controversy is why he is denied this protection for his family and why is this being leaked now? Who has been sitting on this since Sept waiting? What are they deflecting from? This kind of leak should be criminal because this really endangers the safety of the Sussex family.

      • LaraW” says:

Not saying this would happen, but I would find it HILARIOUS if H&M went to the UK with secret service protection. I don’t know how coordinating security teams between diplomatic envoys works, but if somehow they got secret service protection, that would be a hoot.

Again, not saying it would happen and I don’t know if it’s even possible. I just like the image of Meghan being protected by a swarm of secret service agents.

      • RoyalAssassin says:

Dammit, Lara, I love this: yes, bring it on!!! Get them over to the UK with Secret Service protection, and pump their presence there up a thousand or billion notches!!! THE GAUNTLET HAS BEEN THROWN! TAKE IT UP, HARRY & MEGHAN! GO THERE AND BLITZKREIG THOSE SCUM!!

      • HeyJude says:

Now that I think about it, Meghan would be a perfect candidate for a Democratic administration to make Ambassador to the UK.

That would of course come with diplomatic protection by the US. And England wouldn’t have any choice in the matter at all.

They get who’s appointed and that’s that!

    • notasugarhere says:

Could have to do with access to intel and ability to legally carry weapons.

  11. BeyondTheFringe says:

Boy, he turned that shiz on its head real quick.

Cue the “worrying” stories of Harry continuing to “cause PR problems for the royal family.” Because of course the BRF and the tabloid press will spin Harry rightfully correcting the record and pointing out their lies and craven hypocrisy as making them look bad.

They obviously make themselves look bad when they pull this crap but the monarchy will successfully abolish itself before they ever acknowledge it.

  12. Lili says:

I was so Mad over the weekend, at the media exposing a weakness that is the security issue its very irresponsible of them. and now they are saying Harry is paranoid. these are peoples lives they are playing around with, if something happens they will be all very sorry, but purposfully forget how they enabled it. And Still the royal family hasnt learned anything from Diana, neither the queen or prince Charles put a stop to it, What happned to the supposed Olive Branch, The Rota have been looking for stuff to write about the sussexes for weeks now. I hope they dont come for the jubilee or anything else to do with that family. they arent safe.

    • Mslove says:

I forgot about the “olive branch. “ Apparently that only applies when it makes Charles look good.

I hope the public is paying attention to how Prince Harry & his family are being treated. Because this is the BRF showing their true evil colors.

      • BlueToile says:

I think part of the problem here is that people in the UK can hide behind the idea that “the RF does not decide who gets security. That is the Home Office.” Seriously. These people are in such denial. We have seen time and again that the RF members who are “in” get whatever they want. One call from Chuck/Wills/Liz and Harry would have whatever security he needed in the UK at no charge. The people of the UK continue to defend the monarchy in spite of all its apparent corruption and hatred towards it’s own members. Harry didn’t ask to be born into this crap storm of a system, but from his first breath he was at risk. His subsequent service and the hatred stirred up by the RF and its rats has only increased that risk. As long as they support the monarchy, they can damn well support Harry’s and his family’s safety. Honestly, I just wish Harry would burn it to the ground.

      • Mslove says:

@BlueToile part of the fun for the BRF is the gaslighting they do to Prince Harry. They enjoy playing with their prey before they pounce.

  13. Becks1 says:

I’ve been kind of confused by this all weekend. So they won’t let him pay for his own security, but he’s getting RPOs while he’s in the UK? So is the issue that the RPOs aren’t coordinating with his private security, or that he doesn’t think it’s a high enough level of security? So he wants police protection while in the UK AND is willing to cover that cost himself and is being denied? Or will the UK government not let his private security forces operate in the UK? Or is he not getting any police protection at all and we just assumed he had RPOs while there?

    • OriginalLala says:

I’m confused as well Becks, I think it’s that his private team can’t access intelligence reports about threats made to them so he wants police involved in his protection because they have access to this intelligence?

    • C-Shell says:

The stories were coming from every direction, weren’t they? It seems like Harry got protection around Philip’s funeral, but not when he came to London as a “private citizen” for the Fakakta Statue Unveiling, and his car was chased by paps when leaving the Wellchild event. His private security is prohibited from carrying firearms in the UK, and they don’t have access to the intelligence about threats against H/M/A/L, so they’re severely limited in how to protect the Sussexes. The thing that pisses me off the most is that everyone ELSE can pay for such protection (Kate Moss, sports events, Tony Blair, yada yada), but Harry’s being blocked from using the set in stone provisions for those services.

      • Over+it says:

C- shell I believe you are correct. It was only fir Philip funeral and his Cali security isn’t allowed fire arms in the uk . Well at least that’s what I understood

      • RoyalAssassin says:

Over+it, yes, they’re allowed firearms. The issue is they’re not connected to the police and security channels in Britain: no updates, no radio contact, nothing. That’s why Harry offered to pay for his own security with connected British security outfits, be they police or former police, or registered security teams/agencies that the Brit police use when they need a larger force for events. They won’t give it to Harry. Someone suggested he get the Secret Service guys in the US, and boy how i’d love to see them land in the UK with their own security team blitzkreiging the absolute SH*t outta those salty filthy scum Brits.

    • Kalana says:

My understanding is he only gets RPOs for official events like Philip’s funeral but not for Diana’s memorial.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I think its more to do with the Police and the Royal Protection unit sharing intelligence with his personal team PLUS having police support i.e. outriders (his private security won’t be able to help him cut through traffic – here when we see police out riders we move out of the way). Am sure some sort of agreement can be arranged but you have to wonder WHO is dragging this along, using it as a way to control/punish the Sussex’s? *cough*LookingatyouWilliam*cough*

The RF have put a big target on the Sussex’s, they need to take responsibility for the media monster they created – history is at risk of repeating itself.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Becks: My understanding is he got RPOs when went for his grandfather’s funeral but not for the unveiling of Diana’s statue. So it would seem if he comes for an official event he would get police protection but for private visits he won’t. Furthermore, Harry’s brings his own security but they are not allowed to be armed and they are not given risk assessments by the Met. Harry wants to pay for UK Police Protection and if possible get intelligence about threats to his life and his family when he’s in the UK. The Home Office said no to these requests.

    • KFG says:

He’s not getting RPOs when visiting. In July he was chased down which is why he left so quickly. They are trying to Diana him to distract from the shitshow that is the RF.

    • notasugarhere says:

The decision doesn’t make any sense. Harry was at Philip’s funeral as a private citizen. He isn’t one of the taxpayer-funded government employees claiming a co-worker’s funeral as a work event. Or one of the taxpayer-funded govt employees claiming a family member’s funeral as a work event.

      • equality says:

But he was around other family members who are “working” royals at the event. That probably makes a difference.

      • notasugarhere says:

All of whom were already being protected by RPOs. No reason for them to suddenly decide, ok RPOs for Harry too. It would have made more sense for them to deny him any security at all at that event, which would be more in keeping with their other decisions.

      • Nic919 says:

The funeral was at Windsor Castle and that would have general protection as the queen was in residence there.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

Nota, the RRs had their cameras trained on the family for the funeral. They weren’t allowed at the statue unveiling. Wasn’t there just the one person with a camera who Skull had control of? I may not have this exactly right, but I think this has to do with the RRs and brf publicly known contract. I’m not explaining it very well, but that’s what I keep thinking.

    • Same says:

I understand it as he has RPOs for official duties , which is why he had it for the funeral , but that he does not have police protection per se when he is doing things as a private citizen. If he is Just Harry doing non crown associated things , he only has his private security . So he doesn’t get police escorts and stopped traffic unless it’s something crown related .

      • notasugarhere says:

Philip’s funeral wasn’t an official duty for Harry so that argument falls flat.

Noting the use of ‘Just Harry’ which is a fav phrase used by Sussex haters.

      • BabsORIG says:

@Nota, yes we do understand that Phillip’s funeral was not an official duty for Harry, you don’t need to post repeatedly about it. But what we are actually saying is that even though it wasn’t an official duty for him, still ALL senior royals AND the queen attended the funeral in official duty capacity, which means RPO and other protection everywhere and for every BRF member in attendance. Harry was one of the BRF mourners that was very visible, he was walking behind the future king of the UK and side by side with the future, future heir to the British throne, and thus didn’t need any personal protection at this occasion. At Diana’s statue unveiling and at Well Child, none of this was the case so he needed personal protection which was denied regardless of whether he paid for it.

      • notasugarhere says:

And despite those repeated posts, you’re still not understanding my point.

Harry wasn’t there as a working royal, therefore he would not ‘qualify’ for RPOs. But it appears that personal protection was allowed for him at the funeral and not at the event in July, when he was also not a working royal.

No need for him to have the RPOs at Philip’s funeral, because the whole thing was already heavily secured and filled with RPOs for the working royals. Ergo the question remains. Why was he allowed personal protection at an already heavily-secured event, but allowed to be chased and harrassed at another event? He didn’t attend either event as a working royal.

      • equality says:

@nota Maybe the difference was that the Queen was at the funeral and she would have asked why he didn’t have security?

      • Tessa says:

Harry is still Prince Harry and Duke of Sussex. Nothing changed as far as his titles.

    • Becks1 says:

okay thanks everyone. That makes sense – that his security can’t coordinate with the police protection and so he doesn’t have the same level of protection there that he would have if he had police protection, so he wants to pay to ensure he gets that level of protection, and they are saying no.

  14. Snuffles says:

Just to clarify, while Harry can bring his own team from the US, they aren’t allowed to carry guns, nor are they given access to UK intelligence on local threats to Harry and his family. Something Metropolitan police would have (guns and intelligence).

The excuse that his change in status precludes this is also a lie. There is a precedent within the royal family where Charles personally paid for Camila and her family’s security before she became a working royal. Kate got security as William’s girlfriend. Other high profile government people and past Prime Ministers continue to get police protection. And the fact that the Met Police can be hired for big events.

This whole thing is EXTREMELY SINISTER because the lack of police protection contributed to Diana’s death. They want Harry and his family vulnerable to the multitude of threats they are facing so another “tragic accident” will happen. Then they can say “If only Harry didn’t leave the fold, we could have protected him from this!” And fake mourn like they fake mourned for Diana.

    • Over it says:

Snuffles, I believe you have hit the nail on the head with your assessment

    • s808 says:

This is pretty much it and why Meghan and the kids won’t step toe in the UK again.

    • RoyalAssassin says:

They’re actually allowed to be armed; the issue is the no-access to UK intelligence and police communications. And yes, it is extremely sinister. I hate this disgusting pig-farm of a “royal” family. They’re scum. End chat.

      • Chica says:

No, They’re NOT allowed to be armed. Not even all MET police in Britain is allowed to be armed, much less carry tasers and other weapons. The only armed police in that country is the SaRP force.

A simple Google would have enlightened you to this fact. His team is not allowed to carry weapons in UK. Period.

      • RoyalAssassin says:

@Chica, chill a little, eh? I’m sorry your information source is Google. Yes, they’re allowed to be armed. They’re not MET police, luvvy, they’re more like special forces. And sweetie, “that country” is clearly NOT your country, and those of us who are from that country know that country, and we don’t need to Google things we know about, ok? Chill…some people know better than others, and this is one of those times.

    • Veda says:

This! An unintended consequence of this Met drama has been that it has put a spotlight back on Diana’s death. We were always told, if only the RPOs were there, this could have been avoided. And now we are learning that the RF is petty and cruel enough to ensure that there is no way for the RPOs to protect members they have exiled. As Harry says- history repeating itself. I pray that this family is always safe, happy and thriving!

      • Jais says:

It’s really all about control with the RF. It’s literally some Godfather-level shit. You’re born into this and you can never leave. If you try to leave, your security is dropped and your life is literally in danger. It’s actually crazy to think that Harry was able to get his family out of there.

      • BabsORIG says:

That’s the reason why Archie never came back to the UK once they left with him in 2019. “If you knew what I know” Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex.

  15. Lady Digby says:

Met have up-to-date information on specific threats and can carry weapons which Harry’s security can’t match.

  16. What else says:

They definitely want to kill Meghan, Archie and Loki. Harry at this point is collateral damage. I hope they never set foot onto that Salty Island even when Rumpelstiltskin II dies.

  17. Naomi says:

The issue is Harry’s own security can’t be armed in the UK and won’t have access to the intelligence of the threats against then Sussexes in the UK, hence why he is asking to pay for the specific security he needs here. Which by the way there is already precedent for, see Tony Blair ( when goes on commercial trips), see any private organisations, see celebrities. This is cruel from his family and the callousness of his so called father, brother and grandmother should tell you everything about this family. Anytime you feel the need to praise any of the aforementioned even a smidge just remember this. They don’t care If Harry or his family live or die.

  18. Amy Bee says:

It’s a lot more than Harry bringing his own which he did on the two occasions he went to the UK, it’s that he can’t bring armed security with him when he goes there and that he’s was not given security when he went in July. The release of the statement and its timing was a masterstroke by Harry because he had the MoS and others scrabbling to change their stories that had already gone to press and it derailed the press’ planned attack of Harry wants the taxpayer to pay for his security. Another thing, this statement stops months of speculation by the press of whether he and Meghan would be going to the UK for the Thanksgiving Service or the Jubilee. Unless, he gets to pay for security he won’t be in the UK. I don’t think his plans were to come for the Jubilee but to visit the Queen and friends privately as it would seem that the Royal Family sent security for Harry for Philip’s funeral but not for the unveiling of Diana’s statue.

    • Ginger says:

Agreed Amy Bee. Harry’s statement was amazing. He could have just denied the story but he went into detail and they were not expecting that. Now, it’s put the spotlight back on the RF and Andrew ( wondering why tax payers are paying for HIS security) and they are getting dragged. Again.

I think Harry wants this straightened out for the future. He has other reasons for going back. He was his mothers side ( who he is close to) his mother is buried there and he has charities he would like to visit. I don’t think this has much to do with Harry seeing the RF. I’m sure his kids will wonder why they can’t go to the UK and will have questions. He should be allowed to see his home country. But, we probably won’t see them in the UK for a while if at all.

      • Saucy&Sassy says:

You know who this whole sh!t show puts a glaring light on? The Met Police and Scotland Yard. So, unless we give you the protection that we deem worthy, and have the taxpayers pay for it so that we can leak to the brf who will leak to the RRs, you can just go without for any engagement. We will leak regardless. Do I have that right?

  19. Dee+(2) says:

I won’t comment on how clearly sinister, and hypocritical they BRF and BM are being because I think others have made it fairly plain. My question is, does the RF not realize how terribly they come off in this? I know we all say they are surrounded by sycophants, and the media does its very best bottom tongue bath, but its also clear they realize the global star power on H&M. So they do see reactions other than the heavily curated BM responses. Do they think everyone else is having a collective delusion about how crappy they are as people, let alone as a family? I just don’t understand their decision making. If I were their PR person, I would ask what their first inclination in a response to something would be, and then tell them they should always do 180 degrees from that.

    • windyriver says:

Peter Hunt hit that nail on the head with his tweet, that includes: “any judicial review could present them [Charles and William] as having been petty and uncaring at the Sandringham summit in January 2020”, and “the chapter in Harry’s book on the Sandringham summit is likely to be particularly enlightening.”

That’s what’s so crazy. Did they think Harry wouldn’t respond, as he’s done more than once when necessary? At any point, if he wanted, Harry could call up any media person, and reveal all kinds of information. Heck, some UK publications were live streaming Meghan’s interview on Ellen, that’s how quick they would be to cover whatever Harry had to say. But he’s been going out of his way NOT to try and bury them.

I don’t understand why this was leaked in the first place. Did someone think they could get mileage out of having the tabloids twist the facts to make Harry look bad somehow (imply he wanted taxpayers to foot his security bill, I guess?). This goes beyond living in a bubble, at this point, it’s an absolute complete inability to learn anything from continuing mistakes that totally backfire.

      • Ginger says:

It was leaked to distract from Andrew but it didn’t really work like they wanted. The RF and Andrew are getting dragged for this. Harry was trending on Twitter yesterday and was getting a lot of support. They needed a Harry story to distract and this was all they had. They clearly were not expecting Harry’s statement going into detail. The RF need to learn that Harry WILL fight back.

      • Nic919 says:

Really interesting for Peter Hunt to raise the issue of Charles and William being petty about security at the Sandringham summit in 2020. Hunt is a former BBC royal correspondent and he has sources.

We should note the initial leak was trying to pretend that Harry wanted the security paid for by taxpayers. Only Harry’s statement shut that down. But the question is who wanted to distract from Andrew and leak this? It doesn’t make either Charles, William or the Queen look good when you realize that Harry simply wants to pay for the best protection.

      • Petra says:

@Windyriver, Whoever leaked this knew Prince Harry would respond with full receipt. I’m 100% sure this leak didn’t come with consent from KP, CH, KP or Boris John’s government. This was not a PR stunt from them, their respective PR game can’t be this awful. An insider or former aid in the RF or government made money from this leak; or is payback from an insider for being thrown under the bus.
I feel this is the British media moguls saying to the RF and the Tory government “we know where the bodies are buried” don’t even think of messing with us. The media moguls have come to realized Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are not scare of them, but they know RF and government has a lot of secrets they need to protect. The moguls are saying RF and Tory government “we own your balls” and you better jump when we say jump.

      • windyriver says:

@Nic919 – yes, Hunt’s comments were very interesting.

What’s confusing is, this leak appears to be a distraction from Andrew, and it’s hard to think who would benefit, as you’re right, none of those three look good. But one of my theories is, KP gave this info to the DM a while ago, they’ve just chosen now to use it, and the timing re: Andrew is a coincidence. We know with Sussex business locked down tight, KP’s had little to offer. This didn’t have to come via the Sussexes and Will would have known about it. If I understand right, this is oldish news; the decision Harry’s appealing came down last September.

Maybe Associated just turned over a fat check to Meghan’s lawyers, and want to make some of their money back, while also causing aggravation for the Sussexes; and if they responded, they could use that too. It would be like William to figure the DM could use a “Harry expects the taxpayers to pay” storyline, while, yet again, not seeing this could backfire.

@Petra, I agree the media, the DM in particular, is definitely making a point, but not sure I agree the original leak came from elsewhere besides one of the palaces. And as far as “their respective PR game can’t be this awful” – we’ve seen time and time again, especially with William, that oh yes, it can.

  20. Sofia says:

As much of a nasty c u next Tuesday Priti Patel (UK Home Secretary) is, IMO, I doubt she would refuse Harry unless the BRF told her to. And before anyone says “no they wouldn’t do that”, remember, H&M’s security was cut off without warning and Mike Tindall has said out loud that royals “joke” about harming Harry. So yeah, they would.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Sofia: Yeah, Priti Patel is not saying no without consulting the Palace. The Royal Family told her to deny Harry’s request.

      • Athena says:

The BRF is telling the Home Office not to approve security for Harry just like the Queen intervened and had them keep security for Andrew.
I don’t know if they understand that if anything happens to the Sussexes the BRF will lose what respect they have left in the world. Harry is telling the world, he said it on the Oprah interview, “ they will not stop until she’s dead”. He’s telling us now, they’re refusing them the level of security needed to stay safe.
What a nightmare of a family.

I have no words for Elizabeth Regina, the longest reigning monarch, but what exactly has she accomplished in her long reign? What has this female monarch done for women? What examples has she set as a mother?
I’m starting to get the feeling that Phillip was the one holding this institution together

      • aftershocks says:

@Athena, it’s true that Philip was allowed by Elizabeth to reign supreme regarding family domestic matters. He also managed their private estates, and he did a lot of work on the restoration of Windsor Castle after the 1992 fire. Philip seemingly ruled the roost and kept the family in-line to a degree through his early 80s. After that point, his oversight interest and influence likely began to wane.

QE-II and Philip had a rough patch in their marriage when she came to the throne, and he most definitely strayed, albeit discreetly. They reconciled to a degree and ended up with two more children as a result. It surely helped when the Queen overruled using Windsor as the sole personal family name. Although her reign is still known as the House of Windsor, her and Philip’s direct line progeny are able to use the surname, Mountbatten-Windsor (requested by the Queen and Prince Philip to the Privy Council in 1960).

Still, throughout Phil’s life supporting his wife, he chafed at the limitations of his role (one of the more accurate depictions in The Crown). He found a way forward via his hobbies, and through creating his own initiatives, such as the youth-based Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Upshot: DoE had his own substantial interests and influence, and he presided over domestic family matters, until he couldn’t any longer as the infirmities of aging took their toll. I doubt DoE had much institutional-related influence. He may have had a little (e.g. suggesting that Elizabeth’s coronation be televised). Obviously, he wasn’t always right regarding family-related decisions.

It was Sir Christopher Geidt, the Queen’s private secretary from 1996 – 2017 who had major, positive influence on the family and on the institution. Many royal watchers have said things fell apart once Geidt was forced out by Andrew’s and Charles’ courtiers in 2017 (which the Queen allowed to happen perhaps b/c she was slowing down in her 90s — she may have felt she couldn’t control her sons, plus Philip was busy taking care of his retirement comforts). It was Geidt who had recommended a plan to bring all the palaces under one umbrella. Andrew, Charles & William opposed this plan. The rest is history.

    • RoyalAssassin says:

The c u Next Tuesdays aren’t Parliament members nor even the media: it’s the BRF. They did it to Diana, and no one will come out and say it. She was wiped out because she was waaay too much for them. There’s not an argument that can actually defeat that statement, and now even more so, when they’re openly doing the same to Harry.

  21. Simmchen says:

Holy pettyness batman! Wow, the BRF and the BM are gross.

  22. Serena says:

Why the heck can’t he even pay for his own security? This is beyond insane.

  23. Sarah+B. says:

I truly believe that the BRF has s#@t for brains. Do they realize that if anything happens to Harry and his family that’s is basically over for them? William and Harry basically saved them from extinction by walking behind Diana’s casket. There will no one to walk behind any of Harry’s family casket. The BRF will be seen as heartless and racist. I truly believe all the Commonwealth countries will remove themselves from the BRF if that happens. They are so blinded by jealousy they can’t see how this will hurt their reputation across the globe. I hope Meghan and kids never step foot on that island again. I truly believe that they want something bad to happen to them.

  24. Tessa says:

And these stories provoke the “bots” on DM comments which even distort the story saying Harry “wants his security paid for” when he is willing to pay for it. It is so sordid and it is so obvious when this comes out right after the Andrew announcements.

  25. PrincessK says:

Whoever leaked the information about Harry making a case for police protection whilst in Britain has actually increased the risk to Harry and his family. The BM should also be held responsible for increasing the security risks around the Sussexes by the non stop hate campaign of disinformation to manipulate public opinion and whip people into a frenzy of Sussex baiting.

The Palace and the police have full dossiers on the level of risk to the Sussexes and someone was actually jailed for making serious threats to Harry and calling him a race traitor. The Palace admitted that they had received a huge amount of race hate mail when the couple got engaged. The RF are unbelievably stupid they could have found a way around this and sorted it out. Now however this will bring greater scrutiny on their own security arrangements regarding who gets what type of security, something which they like to keep private.

Another matter is that the RF are currently unhappy with some new proposed plans from the Home Office with regards to police protection officers which means that there will be more of a turnover in the police officers they get so that others get experience looking after royals. Currently the RF like to keep the same officers for years and years because they have become familiar with them. So the RF are having their own beef with the Home Office.

The Platinum Jubilee looks to be heading for a right mess, what with people wondering if Andrew will rear his head. I believe that the Queen was hoping that the Jubilee would be an opportunity to at least show a united family front. Who advises these people? Do none of them see straight and have any backbone? Are they forever going to be content to be slaves to right wing public opinion?

    • Tessa says:

I remember the DM comments even before the H and M wedding, there were “petitions” sent around by bots to “stop the wedding.” And Samantha, then Tom were pushed by the media. Disgraceful.

  26. Over+it says:

These people continue to F around with Harry and his wife and children, and they keep on finding out that Harry and Meghan are no longer the ones to F with. So if they don’t already know, they better ask somebody

  27. Snuffles says:

The reporter who wrote the article complained that she asked Harry’s PR team for comment before she published and they never responded. Which was brilliant of Harry, because this gave him a heads up for him to prepare his own statement that couldn’t be cut up and twisted by the British tabloids.

  28. TheOriginalMia says:

Lawd, they really don’t give one flying f$&k about Harry and his family. I don’t blame him one bit for keeping his family away from Salty Isle. For 2 years, he’s been asking for the right to arm his security with pertinent and current information and weapons and been denied. The son of the future monarch, a veteran and they’ve denied him because he dared to leave for the mental and physical safety of his family. These people are cruel, dumb and shortsighted.

  29. Protection for the pedophile and rapist, none for the multiracial family targeted by extremists . Stay classy, royals.

  30. SussexWatcher says:

As others have mentioned, the issue is that the royal family refuse to give him (and his family) RPO protection, refuse to give him Met protection, even if he pays. But also refuse to give his own security team information on relevant threats so they can effectively keep him safe or allow them to have weapons.

In addition to what everyone has said about Liz, Charles and The Other Brother literally wanting Harry, Meghan and TWO CHILDREN dead…and in addition to what everyone has said about it being completely false that regular people can’t hire Met police (as Kate Moss did for her wedding) or use RPOs (as Pippa did for her book signing and cruelCamilla did as a royal mistress), a point being missed is that – in addition to all this – the royal family is leaking Harry’s location to paparazzi to actively endanger him. This is what he’s referring to in his statement. When he attended the WellChild event after the statue unveiling, this was leaked and he was chased by papps (which makes me think it was TOB).

Looking at all of this, what other conclusion can we draw other than the royal family want them all dead? Its one thing to cut ties with your own grandson, son, or brother, but it’s another to actively plot to harm or allow thh him to be harmed or killed. It’s sick and sinister and I hope none of them ever step foot in the UK again. It’s really beyond belief! Poor Harry. Now we know more about what he meant in that documentary when he said “if you know what I know you’d make the same decisions.”

  31. Lady Digby says:

Also note the factually incorrect leak was made to the MoS of all tabloids?! Invisible contact really working hard to make up for Court of Appeals loss? Harry’s statement ends with surreptitious timing of leak to UK tabloid. Distraction for Boris and PA shenanigans but raising questions of fair treatment of security provision. When did the tax payer stop paying for PA security was it in 2019? Is the Q paying for it?

    • Sid says:

The sex offender STILL gets tax payer provided security officers. QEII fought for him to keep them.

  32. Tessa says:

That whole family is imploding. They need to back off from Harry and Meghan and family.

  33. Tessa says:

Diana would be ashamed of her eldest son. IMO. Truly ashamed. I hope there is no throne for William and Kate.

  34. Jessica says:

I honestly cannot come up with a legitimate reason for them to fight Harry on this, other than the fact they’re trying to off him and his family and don’t care if the world knows. I love that he laid it out point blank in the statement- he can’t and won’t go back for anything until his family is safe. I sometimes amuse myself by looking at a discussion board of unhinged BRF supporters and the lengths they go to to twist what Harry says is truly astounding. It really is like they’ve been completely brainwashed and live in an alternate reality- to them, this is Meghan (not even Harry! Meghan! Because it’s always the woman’s fault) wanting special treatment and the perks of being royal without being royal. Because only royalty is allowed to take death threats seriously??? I don’t even know. Hope this overshadows the jubilee lol

  35. angel says:

Sadly not a surprise, he needs to stay from that island as far as possible.

  36. Totoro says:

Maybe the Bidens can step in and offer him him American security in the UK via diplomatic relations. Wouldn’t that be ironic and a slap in the face for the shameful actions of the UK Royal family

    • BabsORIG says:

Are you even being serious with this mess?

    • Jaded says:

@Totoro – Wishful thinking I’m afraid. US secret service agents can only work in the UK if they’re part of the presidential protection detail. They have to follow UK rules of engagement, and they’re the inner perimeter behind British police, so they’re not allowed to carry guns.

  37. Lilpeppa40 says:

It’s just, aren’t they tired? Truly. Aren’t they tired of being this cruel and petty and awful? The energy it takes to maintain this level of vitriol against anyone boggles my mind but especially against a family member. The change in role excuse is bullshit, Home Office knows the risk that comes with Harry simply being who he is and I completely agree that he would not have been refused without the go ahead of the BRF. It’s exhausting to me every time they show how little they care and it hurts my heart for these people I don’t know but who have done nothing to deserve this level of hate. You don’t even have to like them, you just have to be sane to realize how awful this all is. And while I understand the knee jerk reaction of fans to be like “well, they’re telling you to stay away” (I felt that too) I do also understand that it’s his home; his mother’s last resting place and I’m sure, the source of as many good memories as bad. The BRF is truly cruel and the government and media being in bed with them is just… There are no words.

    • Cessily says:

      👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    • KFG says:

No they’re not tired bc this is the 1st time someone left and said eff it i don’t need you and I’m not going to be your shield anymore. These inbreds have no idea how to deal with loss of control. It’s like someone said upthread, if he were failing they wouldn’t feel as threatened, but he’s thriving and taken more seriously and is more revered than the heirs, so it’s better if he and his “impure” children and wife die. These ppl are dumb and vicious.

      • ArtHistorian says:

The way the BRF manages the family/institution is just full-on emotionally abusive – and since Harry exited an abusive situation, the abuser (the institution/family) is amping up the abuse to punish him. We’re talking generational cycles of dysfunction, emotional abusive having become institutional – they don’t know any other way to respond because they live in a bubble whilst being also stupid and entitled.

    • Jennifer says:

It puts them up higher to put someone else down. They’re never going to stop doing that to make themselves feel better.

    • Simmchen says:

      @lilpeppa40 Well said!

  38. Lady Digby says:

Given what happened to Harry’s own mother this question of top notch security does need to be resolved and this leak has backfired because it focuses attention on the difference between how 2 royal princes have been treated at the same time. PA is cosseted and protected by tQ despite serious charges against him. Harry removes family from toxic environment and is cold shouldered and put at risk of harm. Who is leaking security issues given the potential serious consequences for this couple and 2 small children. Welcome back to UK but we can’t guarantee your safety?!

  39. SnarcasmQueen says:

For me the worst thing about these stories is the clear lack of support or help from his own brother. William knows the position Harry is in. He knows this is a reasonable ask but he’s so bitter and angry over perceived slights that even his brother’s basic security is of no concern to him.

    • LaraW” says:

Honestly, I think very much not racist William is one of the individuals actively preventing Harry from getting proper security in the UK.

      • Over it says:

LaraW, I believe you are correct. Willy was part of that summit and he asked for this. He hates Meghan so much that he can no longer do not even the most basic of decency towards his own brother. Diana must be turning over in her grave over what a complete and utter cold unfeeling ass-h—le william is

      • notasugarhere says:

That is a sinister and logical conclusion. William wanted Harry threatened around his visit for the Diana statue event. To what end? Put the fear of no security in him? To convince him not to return to the UK ever? Notice Harry didn’t return for a second Diana statue event, the one where William walked around the crowd bad-mouthing Harry.

William wants the UK and any contact with Diana’s legacy (or her grave) off-limits to Harry and his family. He wants to control all the access himself. Just like he banned Meghan from the private Diana memorial in July 2017, when Meghan had flown over especially to be there for Harry at that event. The nannies and the kids were all allowed, Meghan was banned.

      • Nic919 says:

Peter Hunt implied as much in his tweet referring the 2020 Sandringham summit. But he also mentioned Charles as well.

      • Gabby says:

Agreed. This is the doing of Harry’s idiot brother. Everyone please take note when this petulant fool requests security to bring his EarthShotItselfInTheFoot prize to the US.

      • windyriver says:

William (and Charles) may not want Harry and family back in the UK, but undoubtedly the BM do. And at some point soon, they’ll make those wishes known to the RF in one way or another.

    • Tessa says:

William is never going to change.

      • Lady D says:

…and it’s not tiring them. If anything, it’s energizing them. They haven’t been this active in 20 years. The Cambridges have a PURPOSE now! They still won’t do their actual job, but trust they are not even close to tired.

  40. Roseberry says:

This all feels like the sinister government, palace, media tentacles intertwined and working together – what outcome are they hoping for……
Someone Posted on Twitter the response from the Met Police to a Freedom of Information request regarding provision of special services under section 27of the police Act in the past few years.
The spreadsheets show non personal corporate events, football matches and other sporting events , shopping malls, hospitals, schools and the costs charged by the Met. In addition it’s well reported that Ex prime minister Tony Blair gets full-time protection (as they all do) but pays for this when he’s on personal business trips abroad. Kate Moss paid £10k for policing at her wedding, seems they had no problem with that!

  41. Harper says:

This is a sick game they are playing with Harry. When he’s on his own in the UK, he’ll get chased by the paps just like his mom. They want him harassed and are giving the paps permission to chase him. William is a sick, sick individual to allow this, and Charles is scum. Either one of them could have corrected the record yesterday and said if this is true it is not our intention. “Much loved family” is B.S. Whoever leaked this story did the Firm no favors, so my guess is that the incandescent mastermind pulled this one out of his butt.

  42. S808 says:

the message is pretty clear to me— come with ill equipped security and whatever happens happens or don’t come at all. Hope Harry is successful in his fight.

    • MsIam says:

The message is really “Don’t come at all”. William &Kate don’t want the Sussexes back in town, they know it will highlight all of their inadequacies. This is effectively an exile. They can’t legally ban Harry from coming back because he’s done nothing wrong. But if I’m Harry, I would say fine, I grow where I am planted.

      • Christine says:

Those two are dumb enough that they are unable to grasp that Harry and Meghan aren’t necessary in the equation that exposes their inadequacies. The behavior, or complete lack thereof, of Cannot and Willnot speaks for itself.

  43. Over it says:

Just when I think my disgust and dislike for these people can’t possibly increase, they prove me wrong. Meghan and her children aren’t human to the monarchy, the British media and the British government. Harry has also become disposable because he dare to marry a woman of color who refuses to become lesser than for them. F them all to hell in the name of Meghan and every woman of color.

  44. lanne says:

Well, when Harry and Meghan skip the jubilee, we all know why. When Meghan and the children never set foot in the UK, we know why. There needs to be a new prayer specifically for people in the UK:

“Lord, protect me from the welcoming and hospitality of the royal family.”

The royal family is like boogeyman to scare children with. “Kids, if you don’t behave, I’m going to send you to the royal family!”

How’s this for a headline: “Royal Family refuses police protection for the children of a royal war veteran.”

    Or this:

“Royal babies denied police protection, remain vulnerable to racist attack.”

God save the kings to be, indeed.

  45. L4Frimaire says:

I really don’t understand what the BRF is trying to accomplish by releasing this. It makes them look worse than petty, but more Putin-like in wanting real harm to befall the Sussexes. I’m glad Harry released that statement to counter what would have been a blatant distortion of facts. It is very disturbing that what should have been a straightforward, and obvious, security precaution was rejected and now under judicial review. The fact that something so confidential was leaked regarding his security shows how desperate and divisive the Royal family has become in trying to put Harry in what they consider to be his place. It really is obvious they really want him exiled. Andrew gets disgraced and they turn their anger on Harry and leak false stories to the DailyFail of all papers. Then try to spin Harry’s very detailed statement of what actually is happening. Just beyond disgusting. The UK really looks like a country that is spiraling.

  46. MsIam says:

Yeah this really blew up in the BRF faces, lol. This reminds me of Jason’s email leak. KP wanted the story to be “Meghan misled!” but there was way more coverage of “Charles berates Harry!” The BRF had no problem taking Harry’s money for the Frogmore renovations, even though that was unprecedented. I don’t see why this security issue is even a thing since as others have pointed out, there is precedent. And how many times will Harry and his family even be in the UK? Not many I would imagine, especially after the queen is dead.

  47. Sure says:

So TQ blocks Patel from allowing H to “hire” PPOs during private visits in order to clear the path for paparazzi intrusion during such visits? It makes me wonder if H has any respect left for TQ because if it were me I would have written her off after that stunt with Lili’s name.

    • Jaded says:

I don’t think TQ is making any decisions right now, I think her health has deteriorated to the point where it’s Charles, William and The Firm who are running the show. Andrew getting his patronages and military affiliations pulled, as well as not being able to use his HRH title, was a knee-jerk reaction by C&W because mummy is not making the decisions now. Hence, the Sussex hatred continues. They don’t want either Harry or Meghan there, they’re too popular and the cat is definitely out of the bag with the horrific treatment they received that led to them leaving the country. This was a ham-fisted decision to get the tabloids to lie, and to rile up the extremists. I sure hope Harry includes the dirt on this in his book — his own effing family is deliberately endangering his and his family’s lives.

  48. Snuffles says:

I continue to be baffled at how short sighted they are when making these decisions. As if they have no ability to see how this makes them look to the rest of the world.

My only conclusion is that, because they have deals in place with the media to protect them, they believe they can PR and lie their way out of it and convince the masses they are right. And it probably works 100% on the royalists and the racists. But I think it also works to a certain extent on the apathetic as well. UK citizens that are inclined not to give two shits about ANY royal.

I occasionally have debates with this white British woman on Twitter that I’m friendly with. She regularly proclaims she doesn’t read the tabloids or care much about the royals. But when I ask her to give me her opinion on them, she regularly regurgitates the tabloid spin, just in a more watered down form. I don’t think even she realizes how much the tabloid spin seeps into her conscience because she’s literally surrounded by it 24/7.

  49. Talie says:

There’s a lot happening here that isn’t being said. For one thing, why can’t Prince Charles fly to America to see his grandkids? What rule says he can’t?

Second, he’s not just some private citizen so yes, he should have access to better security in the UK specifically. He and his children are in the top 10 of the line of succession there and that does have long-term consequences. Even Prince Andrew has a case for this as much as that sucks to admit due to his present circumstances, but if Britain wants to maintain their monarchy, these are things they have to deal with.

  50. aquarius64 says:

This is stupid. Do these geniuses realize Meghan, Archie and Lili are US citizens and if anything happens to them the US government may rethink the “special relationship”? This along with Andrew’s mess projects the image that the BRF can mistreat American women. (Although she lives in Australia Virginia Guiffre votes in Colorado.) And yes Andy STILL gets security after being stripped of honors and patronages. When this goes to court that and the other special security arrangements will be brought up.

  51. Polo says:

It is truly sickening seeing the invisible contract in full force. The royal family, the Tory government, and the royal reporters/editors all working together to try and punish Harry and Meghan at every turn.
I truly hope someone significant is working on this story to expose these people. If you’re not paying attention it’s easy to miss how the “establishment “ work together and all know each other.
In other news it’s been great to see the pushback against DF attempt to twist this story. Just about every news outlet here in the US and some in the Uk (guardian) had the headline Harry wants to pay for security to protect his family or it was made clear within the first paragraph. So whatever the RF and BM wanted this story to do it did the opposite. One it quashes all those stories about Charles missing his grandchildren or the queen hasn’t seen lili blah blah because it make clear Harry has been working on this security thing for 2 years. The narrative is set. They won’t bring their family over because it’s not safe and there’s not enough protection. No one in their right mind can argue against that. It’s Harry’s own words.
Two it exposes how uncaring that family is. I’ve seen people who don’t comment on royal stories say what is the Queen thinking? How petty can they be?
Three it also exposes the hypocrisy of the RF and BM. Andrew still has royal protection and tax payers are paying for it. There’s been no outrage from the likes of Piers or royal reporters. The tweets that have gone most viral are the ones exposing this. I tried to do my best to share them and post them lol.
So if you’re a supporter I would drive this home on your social media or post receipts. This is what makes it most clear how evil that family really is to people. A alleged rapist pedo is more protected than a serviceman, philanthropist whose done nothing wrong.
Again I really hope someone is doing a documentary on this who debacle to really expose the depths of wickedness this family has. Something like the Brittany doc with no involvement from Harry or Meghan

  52. Coco+Bean says:

What is the reaction to this in the UK? Celebitchy is my major source of Sussex/BRF info and I never know what the coverage and reactions are like from UK reporting.

It’s my hope that UK citizens are as outraged as we are about the BRF denying police protection AND someone leaking these security issues to the press. What a vile, horrid family. A new low.

  53. Tiffany says:

Well, the whole point was for Betty to meet Lili and for Archie to see Dad’s home country.

If Betty really wants to meet Lili, all she has to do is pick up the phone and shut it down.

Therefore, Betty doesn’t care or want to see Meghan, Harry, Archie or Lili ever again.

Harry needs to stop protecting that woman.

    • Jennifer says:

I can understand the practicalities of not coming up against the queen, so I get why he doesn’t attack her. That said, I maybe wouldn’t be bothering to protect her so much unless he knows more than we do about what she does vs. what the courtiers do.

  54. teehee says:

“Diana Much” was my first response.
Honestly, I’ve said it before and I sill think its true: this is an institution, and it doesn’t like its popularity or power being challenged, so it offs the competition in typical corrupt fashion.

Lots of people didn’t want to hear me say it the first time a few years ago– but I think its now really obvious, finally.

  55. Julia K says:

In 2012 Pippa and the Middleton family received police protection at taxpayer expense while she promoted her book at a signing event. Very public and well documented.

    • Nic919 says:

There are 2008 articles confirming Kate got RPO protection when she was the girlfriend and years away from engagements.

And the reality is that none of them have faced the level of security threats that Harry and Meghan have, which has been exacerbated by the constant UK media attacks on them. No serious person can deny that Harry and Meghan and their kids face serious security threats, especially when they come to the UK.

      • notasugarhere says:

Not just the constant media attacks. The deranged on tumblr and elsewhere on SM are serious security risks. The one who flew to NYC for the baby shower, openly bragging on her tumblr she was going to stab Meghan in the stomach. The ones currently parked outside Christopher Bouzy’s house, trying to intimidate him to stop outing their real IDs and their coordinated efforts against Meghan.

  56. Cel2495 says:

These people are bile. I hope prince Harry never does anything for them again or visit them. Yes, he is a private citizen now and he should be able to pay for his own security like any other public person does. He is using his own damn money! Gosh I would never engage with these people if I were him, visit tour charities but stay in a well protected hotel and never engage with that garbage family of his.

  57. Harper says:

The Met is now saying that the risk to Harry is low so he doesn’t require their security. The media’s angle is to portray Harry as a whiny, self-important woke celebrity to distract from the sick, sick game they are playing with him. The fact that William stands by while his brother’s car is chased by paps without police protection, just like his mother’s was, is nuts. But should we be surprised? William is dumb enough to leak this story, thinking it makes Harry look like a self-important tool, but it only reveals the despicable forces that Harry and Meghan are dealing with.

    • MsIam says:

His risk is lower than Beatrice and Eugenie’s? Kate Moss’s wedding? Don’t go to the UK anymore Harry, they don’t value you , other than to use as a shield for their garbage and to draw clicks for their media. Its funny, some Rota rat was calling Charles mentioning Harry in that statement an “olive branch”. But Charles is sitting on his hands and not allowing Harry to pay for his own security. Which one is more important? Why isn’t Charles paying for Harry’s security in the UK anyway? If Queenie makes sure Andrew has security, what’s Charles’ problem? Anyone still not believe Harry when he said Charles cut him off and refused to take his calls?

    • Nic919 says:

The Met is really bad at their job if they are saying Harry is a low risk target, especially when we know he’s faced threats from hate groups already. Frankly Harry and Meghan likely face more threats than all the BRF.

    • Christine says:

Yeah, what all of you said. No one in any kind of competent law enforcement would call PRINCE HARRY low risk, never mind Meghan and all the horrific things said and done to her in England and two innocent children.

  58. MerlinsMom1018 says:

    So.
Maybe House Cambridge should receive EXACTLY the same sort of “police protection” if/when they come here.
“Sorry y’all but your security team can’t be armed and no. No we can’t share any information with you about credible threats, etc…”

    • equality says:

Yep. Coming for his award show isn’t the same as coming for a state visit. And we don’t need them for a state visit either.

  59. Basi says:

I pray Harry never returns. I know it’s his birthplace and heritage but I wouldn’t put anything past the royal family and their minions. Harry, Meghan and children are not safe there.
Some of the things I learned on Twitter yesterday are abhorrent. (Firing a nanny in middle of night; Guy the beagle getting two legs broken. Not going with royal docs bc they couldn’t be trusted)
I cannot fathom Harry is even considering going to UK for jubilee.

  60. Chantal says:

This made me so mad and sad for the Sussexes when I saw this. Which genius thought this was a wonderful thing to use for a distraction? Poor Harry. But that statement was everything! Does he have prepared statements ready to be fired off at a moment’s notice?

I love how Harry keeps coming for their asses with his corrections. They still haven’t gotten the memo that He. Is. Not. Playing! The main thing it tells me is that he just informed them all that neither he nor his family will return to that island because it’s not safe for them. Sorry Granny but no Jubilee appearance to try to make you guys look good. The British government should also be embarrassed. All foreign dignitaries and high profile celebrities should be giving that government the side eye. I mean if they are doing this to one of their own… I’m not sure about the UK stance post Brexit but I think most countries would love for the Sussexes to visit and gladly provide security for them. No sane country would want a tragedy like that on their watch after Diana. This should anger the RR because they helped drive out the cash cows and are truly stuck with the dullards. Harry, thankfully, isn’t petty like me because every time those a holes pulled a stunt like this, I’d be on the phone with the editor adding another chapter to that memoir.

    • Christine says:

My first reaction was just like you, mad and sad, but then I was just proud of them. Holy balls, Harry and Meghan are not messing around anymore, and I hope they can feel the support being lobbed at them from all directions today.

  61. Aang says:

Are they really not letting him hire private security? How can the government stop him from hiring his own bodyguards? I can see the point that the rich should not be able to hire on duty law enforcement for their private security. But Harry is part of the RF, there has to be an exception?

    • MsIam says:

A supermarket was allowed to hire the Met Police for security according to their own records. So that is not their policy at all, its just their policy for Prince Harry.

    • LFrimaire says:

I’m not really clear on this. My take is that Met police can be hired for specific events and functions, but not 24hr protection. However, it seems like if Harry brings his own security, they won’t share any intelligence with his security team. Can someone clarify this? Now they provide protection for foreign dignitaries and VIPs, or high profile people so not sure what the issue is. The Sussexes do get constant violent threats, people have been assassinated in the UK, so not sure if they will be negligent if they are actually there. I think, while a press feeding frenzy, can’t imagine letting anything harmful happen to them in the UK. That just seems crazy.

      • Jennifer says:

As far as I can tell from reading this, Harry is saying they need information from the police about any recent threats, and his own security team in America is going in blind without it.

  62. TeamMeg says:

When I saw this story yesterday, my first thought was “Why release this now?” Surreptitious timing, indeed. I wish that last paragraph was up at the top and this whole statement was WAY shorter. Like, just say, “A story has been leaked, with surreptitious timing, regarding a petition filed 2 years ago by Prince Harry. The petition asks for enhanced security, paid for by the Prince, when he visits the UK with his family. The threat risk to any Royal appearing in public is well known, as is the high risk threat to the Sussexes specifically. It is not unreasonable for us to want and need extra protection. H&M” Period.

Anything that takes the focus off Andrew right now, like this non-story, is a blatant distraction and makes me so mad!!!

  63. Laura says:

The Royal Family have rebranded themselves firmly with Will and Kate at the helm. Having Harry and Megan around symbolises the slow decay of the monarchy. They won’t have that.
In addition, the police have been conditioned to protect the crown. Regardless of Harry’s title or the “much loved family members” narrative put out by the Queen he and Megan are no longer part of that.

  64. equality says:

If I were Bea or Eugenie I would see this as the writing on the wall. When the Queen dies, I bet PC pulls a lot of their privileges also. If he won’t protect his own children and grandchildren, he certainly won’t give a flip about them.

    • Jennifer says:

I think B&E are probably aware of that, given their current treatment while the Queen is still alive.

  65. Alexandria says:

I wonder if another letter from veterans will force their hands. This is how they treat Harry after he served the Queen and his country.

I saw this story break out over the weekend and I just feel…sad. That family and island are beyond redemption. Many keep saying Harry should pay (reading comprehension fail) and many forget his mother’s grave and charities are there. That island is degenerating.

  66. Anonymous says:

If Prince Andrew can pay current officers to guard Beatrice and Eugenia, Harry should be able to hire them too.

    • Betty83 says:

He wants to hire RPOs which B+E don’t get. If he just wanted regular police officers he could have that but he says he wants intelligence form the Met

  67. Moira's+Rose's+Garden says:

The RF sucks balls so hard. I hope that this pretty much cements H&M from ever going back there again.

Pray tell me that when Cain & Unable try and make there entrance on the US stage, they are not allowed to have assistance from the US police/feds/etc.

  68. Surly+Gale says:

The thing I learned over the weekend was the RF agitated Donald into saying they wouldn’t cover their security, but worse – and this PISSES me off as a Canadian, the RF agitated w/the Canadian government (a Commonwealth country) to deny them security whilst they were here.
An unknown person lent them their property on Vancouver Island and covered their security costs, and Tyler Perry lent them his U.S. home and covered their security costs till they got themselves set up.

But I’m off to harass the Canadian government and newspapers to suggest power wielded inappropriately is cause for dismissal.

    • Betty says:

Why doy ou want us (I am also Canadian) paying for Harry and Megan forever? Why should they just decide to move here and cost us millions?

  69. swirlmamad says:

(For some reason I can’t reply to any of the existing posts)

My disgust knows no bounds. It’s insane how blatantly they are manipulating this to make it seem as though spoiled Harry wants Brits to pay for his and his family’s protection — I’m SO happy he punched a huge hole in that lie. HE WANTS TO PAY FOR IT HIMSELF AND THEY WON’T LET HIM. We now know the deal — they are not going to that damn jubilee so they can all shut the F up about it. Harry, keep doing what you are doing and keep your family safe and protected in the US. It’s really and truly sad that he has been literally exiled from his home country and cannot show his children their legacy but he has been given no other options at this point. Charles and William are despicable excuses for men. If they can’t see how badly they both come off with this….lordy.

  70. Snuffles says:

    @surley-gale

I think the person that helped them in Canada is David Foster.

    • Jaded says:

I think you’re right Snuffles. He has a huge estate in Saanich, just north of Victoria where I live.

  71. South African Girl says:

I deleted the Dailymail App for good when I saw their headline. I always made it a point not to click on Sussex stories. But at the end of the day I’m putting money in their pockets and on Saturday I decided enough is enough.
Does anyone know which Apps cover celeb stories like the DM?

  72. Robin Samuels says:

In “Me You Can’t See,” Harry remembers being afraid two times. Once in the back seat of his mom’s car while being chased by the Paparazzi, and unable to get Meghan help when she confessed suicidal idealizations. The fact that someone, also known as Jason Knauf, informed the paps about the Well Child event that led to the chase is scary. So was psycho Will sending a message?
Harry wants a PPO because he needs access to UK intelligence, which they don’t want him to have. After all, messages coming from within the palaces are visible. Harry was in Afghanistan, intelligence and security were high, and he knew what was available. Denying his request removes all the Sussex are coming headlines – no Prince Phillip memorial, no jubilee, nothing. That should make the Cambridges happy, but will the media survive the missed photo opportunities? The children are still young. Hopefully, later the function of the media will be to report the news instead of creating the information. If there is a monarchy, the silent contract may be non-existent.

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

I’m convinced William gets off on terrorizing Harry. Harry was happy in the Army, then had to come back from Afghanistan when his location was leaked. Harry, Meghan & Archie escaped to Canada, then their location leaked. Talk of Harry having protection in the UK was shut down at the “Sandringham Summit” (which William attended but couldn’t be bother to be civil enough to have lunch with everyone). In July, Harry was chased by paparazzi (something known to cause him extreme anxiety). Meghan wasn’t even present for that.

I think William is behind all of that. Considering their shared childhood traumas, it feels like the sort of cruelty that would only occur to a sibling to inflict on someone else. I think the hate towards Meghan is more personal to Kate & Jason Knauf.

      • notasugarhere says:

I’m with you on most of this, except the last bit. IMO Kate is jealous of Meghan, her abilities, her loving husband. Kate is jealous Harry married Meghan in less than two years, and that Kate no longer gets to play Only Royal Woman with the two royal brothers.

Racist Kate and her horrid mother did everything they could to abuse and force Meghan out. But I don’t think Kate hates Meghan. Kate resents her, dislikes her, is jealous of her, wanted her gone. I do think William deeply hates Meghan, because she helped William’s victim Harry rise up and get away.

  73. lucy2 says:

I can’t believe how toxic and horrible this family is. Honestly, it’s best at this point for Harry to say F ’em all, and never return. He is never going to win in this situation, so the best thing would be to fully cut them from his life. He can support and promote various causes he cares about remotely, as he’s been during the pandemic.

  74. samipup says:

I don’t understand why Harry has to ask. Why can’t he just get his own, paid for by him security. Any other private citizen could. Does Mick Jagger, for instance have to ask if he can provide his own?

    • TeamMeg says:

He can get private bodyguards, etc, but I believe he asked for official police protection.

      • notasugarhere says:

He asked to be allowed to pay for The Met police to protect him and his family when they are in the UK, just as dozens of other people, stores, events have been able to do.

  75. phlyfiremama says:

“as not to burden the taxpayer” is the most delightfully contemptuous shade I think has been thrown yet. 🤣🤣🤣 Bravo, Prince Harry and his team, BRAVO!!! Let the public see the expense of security that THE TAXPAYERS PAY FOR of the other royals, and compare that to PH wanting to pay for it out of his own pockets. Let the idiotic BRF allegorically hang themselves with the rope they have provided for themselves, tied in the hangman’s knot, all while building their own scaffold. JFC they are willing to throw it ALLLLL away so that they can exact their “revenge” for him being more popular, being far more worthy of the throne, with a beautiful , intelligent, and CAPABLE wife at his side who renewed flagging interest in the monarchy at all. They really are pathetic. #AbolishTheMonarchy

  76. Lila says:

@SAMIPUP Harry has his own private security team. However, they can’t have access to intelligence regarding threats against his family or carry guns. So they’re not able to offer adequate protection.

  77. E says:

I hope H & M never ever go back to Salty Isle, it’s just way too dangerous even with topnotch security. There’s too many “accidents” that could happen like with Diana.

  78. Tangerinetree says:

Jonathan Harmsworth, 4th Viscount Rothermere wants revenge and has the RF in his pocket. Along with UK leaders. Three entities against a Harry, his wife and two very young children. Do these UK leaders have any idea how this looks? They have proven everything H&M said in the interview to be correct and have shown that what they revealed was only a fraction of the horrible reality of life on that island. For his sake, I hope H is able to go to the UK with his family to see and do whatever is important to him. That is his private business. I imagined the situation was bad there, but purposefully refusing H’s family to be safe in that country is – really, there are no words for how awful the RF, media and the government are.

  79. Mina_Esq says:

William wouldn’t be the first BRF prince to murder his brother out of rage and jealousy. Just saying. Thank gosh for Harry’s military training and awareness of security risks. They would totally Diana him, Meghan and the kids if he weren’t as smart about it as he has been. Thank gosh Meghan is American and they can live far away from that toxic environment.
Also, how boss is it that they had this response teed up?! That’s right, salty royal reporters, Harry is in court because he wants to pay for his family’s own security. You can keep your blood money.

    • Jay says:

He’s obviously had lots of experience with the media and his family, so I’ll bet he had this statement all ready to go. I also think at this point, he might trust his private security detail over one provided by the taxpayers, although it seemed like he managed to keep his movements pretty tightly controlled during his visit for his mother’s statue unveiling. Apparently not tight enough though.

Given the online vitriol he and Meghan experience, that’s frightening, and if I were him, I would put this on the table well ahead of any future visit, especially with his wife and children.

  80. Liz Version 700 says:

This is so beyond creepy. At best it is cold as hell and says we don’t want you back. At worse, with the way his mother died, it makes my blood run cold. I have said from the beginning I hope he keeps his wife and kids far away from his family and I doubly hope so now.

  81. Rapunzel says:

They’re now comparing him to Princess Anne, and saying she doesn’t get it even though she’s had security shot at.

    Lol….so desperate.

  82. Well Wisher says:

This is the latest chapter of a sordid saga. The Sussexes are the pawns on a particular chessboard.
In this instance less commentary is prudent.
The events leading to this disclosure are well documented, all be it, out of context to deliberately mislead.
This is a story about greed, selfishness, illusion, power, and use of influence in one direction and fragile ego, madness and malice in the other direction, culminating in twardiness.
    Not a good brand.
It is about the selfish desires of the rulers of the UK,of which, any government and rf are powerless against.
The players are counting on the mass ignorance of consumers, they are not interested in the needs of the citizens.
One can ask and answer the relevant, usual questions but one: To what end?

  83. JFerber says:

BabsOrig, You are so, so RIGHT! I will always believe that this sociopathic institution functions somewhat like the Mafia (though the Mafia has no pretensions about it). The Mafia will kill you and send flowers to your funeral (I think it’s irony here); however, THEY WILL NOT KILL YOUR FAMILY, not the wife and kids. The British Royal family are actually WORSE than the Mafia in that they WILL kill your wife and kids. With not a tear in their eyes, not a modicum of regret, disregarding the memories of 40 years of family life, etc. They are stone cold killers with not a drop of remorse. That’s what makes them so schizophrenic. One day you’re a beloved family member (though “useful” would be more accurate) and the next you are an enemy for termination). Charles and William Corleone Windsor-Mountbatten.

  84. Faye+G says:

This is sad, Archie and Lilibet will grow up as simply Americans, not able to go to or connect with their fathers home country. I’m glad they at least have Meghans mom, hopefully they have other close family friends to help them with the painful reality of a hostile extended family. I’m seriously praying for the Sussexes safety going forward!

  85. JFerber says:

I also believe with some other commentators that Harry and family should NEVER set foot in England again. Never.

  86. Gabby says:

I’m surprised there isn’t more pushback by the BM against this decision. I understand the BRF not wanting the Sussexes back in the UK making them look bad.
But I thought the BM wanted them on UK soil as often as possible so they could make bank with coverage and photographs. Doesn’t this decision negatively affect the BM’s bottom line?

I wish Harry would cut his family all the way off, become a US citizen, and start the process while Granny is still alive. She deserves one last “heartbreak”.

  87. LFrimaire says:

I actually hope they do go back. They will have security because that’s all everyone will talk about. Of course, then they’d be labeled as defiant. I wonder if they’ll be disinvited due to “security concerns “. This whole mess of leaking confidential government information from the Home Office really reeks of BRF interference. How does this makes the Royals look good? How?

  88. Julia K says:

The message is ” don’t come home”. Love and kisses from grandma, dad and big brother.

  89. Bettyrose says:

They’ll be able to return with their own protection when the RF is gone.

  90. Steph says:

When Scobie dropped this (in twitter), I was bored. So I engaged with the derangers. I kept it polite but they really tried to act like he was just another citizen. Like there isn’t an inherent risk to him. Like he should have thought twice before leaving. It was crazy.

  91. Juniper says:

They will make sure that the security is not granted because they all want to keep Meghan away from the Jubilee

    • bettyrose says:

Well, I don’t blame them. If you’re gonna be petty, jealous, and strongly committed to your colonial ways, gotta be rough seeing Meghan shine without trying.

  92. Anna says:

They keep exposing themselves and why do I get a feeling that Harry is really done with them and will put out bits of info for everyone to connect the dots with Diana? I am not a conspiracy theorist but damn, now I think they killed her. Also no more speculating if Sussexes are coming. They are not.

I really really hope to see BRF to be afraid to leave the precious island because everywhere people will ask unconfortable questions.

It is so so sad that Harry can’t go home from time to time, show England to his kids because it’s dangerous to them. However great his life is in USA he must miss it. But karma is a bit** and it’s coming to UK.

  93. Chichi says:

They (the BRF) don’t want the Sussexes over because they know the media coverage would focus on them and not the extra boring British relatives. I don’t think there is anything more sinister, pure and simple jealousy.

  94. diANNa says:

Even though I’ve been following all the stories about the rift between the senior members of BRF and H&M, I have to admit being shocked by this latest revelation. It is just so in-your-face malevolent, so oblivious to the optics that such actions reveal that it can only be pure rage that is blinding them all to understanding just how badly this whole debacle reflects on them.

This reminds me of some stories I’ve read in the past of spouses or relatives who commit murders against supposed loved ones. The grievances/hate they have for their victims is nursed over a long period of time and culminates in just unbelievable violence and they have such (incandescent) rage for the victim that they aren’t able to plan it well and leave bloody fingerprints all over the place. This seems like it’s on that level for me and that’s why I think it’s William driving this bus. I think Charles got on the bus though, but that’s because he isn’t sure of the direction he should take.

A few journalists like Peter Hunt and Alex Tiffin are starting to say things out loud and hoping this will start a trend.

  95. Aurelia says:

Why is this even an issue. Harry was not invited.

    • Julia K says:

My thought as well. This security question gives them a good reason to say ” we can’t invite them now because of the security risk”. W and K remain the stars without competition.

  96. JanetDR says:

How painful this must be but these kind of shenanigans is why they had to leave in the first place!

    • LFrimaire says:

The more I thought about this whole incident in the news cycle, the angrier it makes me. Remember Harry filed this review back in September 2021.It’s now mid-January 2022 and we heard nothing remotely related to this from the Sussexes. Now, there has been a bunch of royal news with old girls birthday fizzling out and of course Andrew’s official stripping of titles( because they had to with the military letter and they want to get out of financial responsibility of lawsuit ). Now at first there were these rumblings that the Sussexes would try to upstage a birthday, then when we heard nothing, then RR’s wanting news from Montecito and bringing up lawns and Netflix, but when they still got nothing, they have the Foreign Office leak Harry’s security negotiations, and then deliberately frame it as Harry going after the royals. He was minding his business and staying out of their way, but of course, they once again use the Sussexes to deflect and and it is just so manipulative. They will not allow the Sussexes to maintain any space from them even when they try. They really need to use and abuse the Sussexes to keep themselves relevant and it is shabby and dangerous. How can people not see this?

  97. TEALIEF says:

The House of Windsor keep proving that there were no lies told by the Sussexes. The pettiness, the vindictiveness, the out and out savagery and brutishness. They keep proving Thomas Paine was right when he wrote the “race of Kings” once removed from the patina of antiquity (and I add frippery for the current balconied assemblage) it was and is “nothing better than the principal ruffian of some restless gang whose savage manners … obtained him the title of chief among plunderers.”

  98. blunt talker says:

Prince tried at the summit to get a security arrangement in Jan. 2020-they dismissed what he asked for-while trying to work with the Home Office of Security since that time-his application is still being dismissed-all the hateful rats are at play and you can smell them a mile away-I am truly with how quickly Harry put out a statement explaining the situation to counter lies and false info-I continue to pray for the Sussex family and may God keep them safe and thriving-Bravo Harry.

  99. A.+Key says:

He can still hire private security in the UK tho, just not the Met police. Way to spin things.

    • Lady D says:

He cannot hire the security with the intel needed to keep him and his family safe. There is a difference between the two.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

It really is shocking how the BM spins things @A.+Key. I’m amazed at how willing the members of the royal rota/British Media are willing to put 1) their lack of reading comprehension or 2) their willingness to absolutely lie out on a global stage. It’s a little entertaining. The British Media has been known as one of the least reputable sources for decades. Guess they really want to be number 1 in that category.

  100. FM says:

The pettiness of the RF never ceases to amaze me.
