Duchess Meghan’s ‘Archetypes’ podcast will come back next week!

As everyone noticed, Spotify did not release a new episode of the Duchess of Sussex’s Archetypes podcast this week. Meghan decided to delay the podcast as soon as Queen Elizabeth II passed away on September 8th, so this is the third week without a new episode. Many of us hoped that she would release the new episode this week, given that the period of “royal mourning” was completed on Monday. But she wanted to give it one more week. The good news is that Variety has a confirmation that it’s back to regularly scheduled programming starting next week:

Meghan Markle’s podcast “Archetypes” is returning on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

The episode will feature comedian and actor Margaret Cho in a conversation about Asian American tropes in the entertainment industry.

In light of Queen Elizabeth II’s death on Sept. 8, the recently launched “Archetypes” delayed the release of new episodes “during the official mourning period for Her Majesty,” according to Spotify. The royal family’s official period of mourning ended on Sept. 26, seven days after the Queen’s funeral.

Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, and Price Harry were in the United Kingdom for three weeks following the Queen’s death. Upon returning home to California, the couple intends to take a week off to spend time with their children, Archie and Lilibet.

[From Variety]

I think Variety got this news because they agreed to delay their cover story/interview with Meghan, which was probably originally supposed to come out last week or this week. Supposedly, Variety really did just postpone it, so we’ll eventually see the cover and cover story. Maybe that will come out next week too. My theory is that Meghan probably spoke to Variety more than a month ago for the primary interview, but the piece will be rewritten/reworked with all of the sh-t that’s gone down this month, and maybe we’ll get some new, post-funeral quotes too. Anyway, I’m interested to hear the Margaret Cho discussion – Cho is very interesting and she was groundbreaking as an Asian-American comedian, but she also has a history of saying controversial sh-t sometimes. We’ll see.

I hope the delay was because they were re-scheduling all of the appearances she had planned but was forced to cancel. So, we will get the Variety cover story, the Jimmy Fallon appearance, and maybe a few other promo activities.

Also, I totally understand they both needed some time to recover from the funeral ordeal and just wanted to snuggle with their babies to make up for their 3 week absence.

    • Noki says:

I saw variety covers for Oprah, Ava Duvernay, the Clinton ladies, Elizabeth Olsen,i think Meghan was suppose to be part of the same roll out.

    • Chloe says:

@snuffles i wonder if they taken this week to go on a little holiday with their kids. Maybe a quick trip to Mexico? Or maybe somewhere in the US.

      • Snuffles says:

Maybe. But, if I were in their position, I would just want to stay home and reconnect with the happy life they’ve created for themselves. Plus, there is plenty of fun, family friendly stuff they can do in California without going through the extra work of traveling with small children.

      • SussexWatcher says:

Same, snuffles. I imagine their gorgeous home is their sanctuary so I’ll bet they’re just hunkered down with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, resting and recovering from those 2 weeks of traumatic hell.

      • BeanieBean says:

They seem to have such a lovely home, in a part of California where many go to vacation. It doesn’t mean they wouldn’t want to vacation elsewhere, but still. They may have had enough of travel for a bit.

    • ChillinginDC says:

      Yep.

There’s no way Meghan is discussing the funeral at all. Why open up to more criticism. That’s her husband’s family, let him answer for that mess.

      • one of the marys says:

Chillingindc this is the bluntest take on it and I love it. Yup, let her husband deal with his family’s mess. God I’d scream if she said something like this

      • Yup, Me says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if she is meeting with her team to workshop a few ways to say exactly this (without sounding callous).

  2. Abby says:

Oh I’m so glad. I love her podcast! It’s quickly become one of my favorites to listen to.

  3. SomeChick says:

so excited! I’m really loving her podcasts so far.

that photo in the car is giving me Diana on the tour of India vibes. just getting through it until it’s over. maybe b/c I know the feeing.

  4. ML says:

I’m very glad Meghan is going back to work and I’m looking forward to hearing what she and Margaret Cho discuss.

  5. swirlmamad says:

What was supposed to be a whirlwind trip for several days stretched into a more than 2-week nightmare, separated from their very young children. I am quite sure both Meghan and Harry are spent, traumatized, and both physically and mentally exhausted. They NEED the rest. If they need an extra week out of the public eye and promotional circuit to snuggle with their babies and recuperate, they’ve more than earned it. I’ve been seeing frustration on Twitter and other SM that they have not emerged yet when the others on Salt Island have. I know their fans love to see them when they’re out and about, but if we are true fans, we’ll respect the fact that our faves have been through a very traumatic experience that they need to decompress from. They’ll be back. Patience, grasshoppers.

    • Petra (Brazen Archetyped Phenomenal Woman) says:

@swirlmamad, I hear you. I’ve rolled my eyes at some of the posts on Twitter from fans. I’m glad Prince Harry and Meghan are taking care of their mental health and family first. Any fan who is not understanding why Prince Harry and Meghan would want/need to have another week off needs to question themselves. Prince Harry and Meghan left the BRF to live life on their own terms, I’m 100% certain they’re not going to start living their lives according to the terms of strangers.

    • Kelsey says:

100% agree. There was no way for them to mentally prepare for having to stay in the UK that long, away from their babies, back in the “fishbowl”. They could disappear for the rest of the year for all I care, they deserve all the time they need.

    • ChillinginDC says:

Thank you, some of the so called fans get on my nerves. No matter what, this was a woman who they both loved. I bet they want to grieve in peace with each other and their kids. And I am sure they both are dealing with having been back in that fishbowl they didn’t want to deal with anymore.

And God knows what Charles is up to so they may have to deal with that mess.

I really wish people stop demanding she do things and also that she speak on everything. Let her do what she wants. That’s why everyone supposedly supported them getting out of being full time working royals.

    • Debbie says:

@Swirlmamad: That’s exactly right. When you think of it, the others were able to resume their waving work immediately because they weren’t under that same scrutiny and stress. If I were the Sussexes, I would have needed a Cambridge-sized vacation and a tall drink to shed the effects of being back at that place so unexpectedly.

  6. Noki says:

She has shown such respect to these people who didnt even deserve it. Did not know that Mike Tindall had a podcast and he was running his mouth talking about the Queen, the funeral and giving little anecdotes that Meghan would have been crucified over.

    • equality says:

He’s been over-sharing for quite a while but, of course, it’s different because…he was never a working royal, he and Zara don’t have titles that they are profitting off… They will get a pass for obvious reasons. And don’t ask me how you profit off a title.

    • Ginger says:

It just proves how much better Harry and Meghan are than the rest of the RF. They are the only ones that seemed devastated over the Queen passing. Others were quickly changing their names on social media, laughing and grinning like hyenas and raiding the queens jewelry. And let’s not forget Mike checking his watch at the vigil because he was bored.

      • Paulkid says:

HE CHECKED HIS WATCH!? Shocking disrespect for his wife’s granmother, he must be a total jerk to do that.

      • SomeChick says:

yep. he checked his watch at the vigil. and then the BRF forced the video clip (seen by millions live) to be scrubbed from everywhere!

    • Kelsey says:

Oh lord. What was that thumb headed jerk mouthing off about this time?

  7. E.A says:

Man I love Meghan and hope the best for her I’ve never been so tired for a celebrity wishing her all the best/success

  8. Becks1 says:

Yay!! I’m excited. I can understand why she paused it but I’m excited to listen to it and can’t wait for the rest of her (hopefully rescheduled) appearances.

  9. Chelsea says:

From the promo that aired after the Kaling episode it looks like Lisa Ling is also in this next episode so I’m really excited about this and it just occurred to me that every celebrity guest on this podcast thus far(Serena,Mariah, Amanda Seales,Mindy, and now Margaret and Lisa) have all been woc. And now that i think about it majority of the women we know will be appearing in future episodes(Issa Rae,Constance Wu,Ziwe, Queen Deepika, etc) are woc as well.

That’s pretty refreshing since a lot of times when we get “feminist podcasts” or “feminist roundtables” it’s usually just white women. It helps as well that first 3 episodes(and looks like the fourth as well) have been very intersenctional in talking through how these Archetypes affect all women but can be especially corrosive towards women of color. I love this podcast.

    • Snuffles says:

I still have my fingers crossed for Cardi B.

      • SussexWatcher says:

I’d love to see Beyoncé and VP Harris as the two mystery guests. Or maybe Jill Biden. I’m so curious as to who those two will end up being! I’d absolutely pee my pants with laughing if it was another royal – CP Mary, perhaps?? 🤣

    • Petra (Brazen Archetyped Phenomenal Woman) says:

Ding ding ding! I’m looking forward to Constance Wu. She got a lot of crap and was called ungrateful and other names 2020. There is more to her story than what was fed to the public during that period.

      • Sid says:

I am curious to hear what Constance has to say. I know that listening to the Mindy Kaling episode of Archetypes made me see her in a different light and helped provide perspective on some things she had said and done in the past that made me raise an eyebrow.

      • QuiteContrary says:

The criticism actually drove Constance Wu to attempt suicide. I just ordered her new book. … Can’t wait to hear the episode with her.

(Again, just as a reminder: If you’re in the U.S. and need help, call 988.)

    • Otaku fairy says:

Agreed. These issues are just as relevant to us. It feels like that gets forgotten sometimes.

    • Ela says:

I just finished listening to the Mindy episode. For all the accusations about Meghan being a narcissist and me, me, me all the time, I felt she stood back and let Mindy shine. Mindy came across as so heartfelt.

  10. Over it says:

I hope Meghan and Harry are doing alright and managing their mental health . I missed her podcast but If I were her I would totally do the same, spend time with my children. It must have completely broken her and Harry heart to be away from them for so long. What a cruel and unnecessary evil has been done to them these last few weeks.
Every time I hear Beyoncé you won’t break my soul, I see Meghan.

    • SussexWatcher says:

Same. I hope they were able to do some virtual sessions with their therapists while they were in the hellscape that is the royal enclave. And I really think that having each other would have been a great help while they were there.

Even though the Variety interview/cover and the podcast would have been pretaped, I’m also glad they are just taking whatever time they need to recover and lay low and be surrounded by loving and supportive friends and family (Doria ❤️).

      • Puppy1 says:

I agree that the delay is to spend time with the kids and recharge. I bet they want to do that before dropping the next episode which will just create more vitriolic articles based on whatever she says on the podcast.

  11. Amy Bee says:

Can’t wait to hear the next episode.

  12. Harper says:

I’m glad they announced it is coming back next week. I was worried yesterday when the new podcast didn’t drop because I took it as a sign that Meghan was really beaten down and battered from the funeral torture she endured, or that she was still laying low as a sign of respect. Both of those can still be true, but I feel better knowing we have a date on the horizon for her triumphant return.

  13. CheChe says:

I am so ready for meaningful content. The podcasts provide so much food for thought. Weeks later I still mull over points like the word diva mutating into something derogatory once women made more money and had agency over their lives. That statement is an icebreaker to more issues regarding verbiage.

  14. Kimsan says:

    That Spotify Picture is gorgeous

  15. Well Wisher says:

Onward and upward. Looking forward to this.
This series continues to explore the liability of labeling, we are aware of its assets.

  16. Liz Version 700k says:

I’m so happy that they are resuming their normal lives. Now they can grieve in private and tune out his terrible family. They must be exhausted. Their PR people who have to constantly deal with the Royal train wrecks of Charles the Turd and Prince Peggington’s attacks must be tired.

  17. Dimbulb says:

Does the podcast title, “Archetypes” refer to Jungian archetypes? Or is it referencing their foundation or son Archie? If the latter, why nothing named after Lili?

    • Eyeroll says:

I can’t imagine it’s related to her son’s name. It’s more related to labels and stereotypes that women get sidelined with. It’s fitting with the topics she discusses.

    • ROAA says:

The name of their foundation “Archewell” is inspired by their son’s name — They named their daughter after that old woman. Her father, Harry, thinks Elizabeth was “globally admired and respected” LOL. Maybe they think their daughter is lucky that she has the same name as that old woman.

      • tamsin says:

The Archewell is not named after Archie, but I believe that the Sussexes have stated that Archewell derives from the Greek word “arche” which means source of action, and the word originally inspired both the name for their son and their foundation. Very idealistic name, imo. It seems to me that Harry named his daughter after the two most important women in his life who loved and influenced him, and the names also connect Lili to her royal heritage.
