Does Zach Braff have a skeezy “casting couch”?

Zach Braff is seen outside of the CW Studios after a guest appearance on the Pix 11 Morning news

I never really got into Scrubs when it was network television (it still is, right? It’s on ABC in some form, I think). But I grew to love the show in syndication on Comedy Central, and I’ve probably seen every episode from the first four seasons or so. Therefore, I have a lot of affection for Zach Braff, and really everyone on the cast, but this story is about Braff. Even though I think Zach is an extremely gifted comedic actor, I’ve never really formed much of an opinion of him as a “celebrity”. For the most part, it seems like he keeps his head down and avoid the paparazzi, avoids the club scene, avoids anything negative. Which makes this a really interesting little tidbit from Star Magazine – apparently, Zach does have one problem: a “casting couch” problem. Meaning that while he’s trying to find a costar for his next film, he’s simultaneously looking for a hookup/girlfriend:

Does Zach Braff have a casting couch? The Scrubs actor and director dated costars Mandy Moore and Sarah Chalke. But for his next movie, Swingles, Jennifer Aniston turned down a role when Zach asked for late-night mettings over wine and candlelight.

Now Cameron Diaz, who is also interested in the project, is getting leery of Zach.

“He hits on his costars,” a source tells Star. “He’s getting a bad reputation.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, March 8, 2010]

Yeah, I’m not sure if this is really a “casting couch” situation, is it? I think of casting couches as… well, whatever is going on between Michael Bay and Megan Fox. Is Zach like, “Oh, if you come over and have some wine with me, maybe I’ll give you the part.” Yeah, it seems pretty cheesy, but it also seems pretty harmless. But I don’t know what he’s really like – maybe he’s a total skeeze.

You mean Jennifer Aniston turned him down? He looks like a fatty in these pics.

  2. Kimberly says:

I always thought he was gay until those make out scenes he does in “Scrubs” totally changes my mind .He definitely doesn’t really care about his appearance these days .

  3. KIKI says:

I thought that was Gary Shandling in the first picture.

  4. stinabelle says:

It’s pretty well-documented that he’s a douchebag to his fans, and has a bit of a reputation as a womanizer.

I didn’t like Scrubs because it was so contrived like all sitcoms seem to be.

  5. Beth says:

I’ve heard rumors he was a sleazebag. He supposedly cheated on Mandy Moore. I will never forget his episode of “Punked” where he this close to beating up a kid for damaging his car.

  6. Kimberly says:

    @ Beth .

omg , me too . he was basically foaming at the mouth at this kid .

  7. Jag says:

He’s a jerk and a sleaze from what I’ve seen. Wasn’t he in a blind vice about just that – trying to go out with, or making, his co-stars date him?

  8. KEK says:

A friend of mine had a skeezy one night stand threesome with him a few years ago. Sparing the gory details, he was both an incredible skeeze and a giant douche. Ruined JD for me forever.

  9. Chana says:

I thought it was well known that he’s a tosser/idiot/douche/prat/whatever else.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that he’d do something like that. He seems extremely insecure.

  10. juiceinla says:

I love scrubs and I love him on it. I first started to hear the “John Mayer’s Mentor”/skeezey casting couch rumors when he got all that critical acclaim for “Garden State”. It sounded like he got too big for his britches or something.

It made me sad. I wish and hope he’s one of the good guys.

  11. LindyLou says:

Ewww you could not pay me any amount of money that would make me hit that! Yuk!

  12. Gymo says:

Don’t believe it! He’s a good guy, and very funny.

  13. hmmm says:

not going to lie…I’m guessing all celebrities who have been in the spotlight for a prolonged period of time are to a certain extent

  14. Boo says:

While promoting Garden State a friend of mine met him and said he was an arrogant ass. Been hearing rumors since them of his sleazyness with the ladies.

  15. mslewis says:

I can’t believe Jennifer Aniston turned down any movie that has the possibility of being a hit; especially if the co-star is willing to play “my new lover” with her!!

What does it matter if this person hits on women? He’s single, isn’t he? And they’re single, aren’t they? What’s the problem? And I will guarantee he is not the only sleazeball in Hollywood. This is a non-story in my book.

  16. late night wigs says:

Can’t stand him. He’s horrifically ugly, unfunny and talentless. Scrubs is stupid and not funny, and I don’t know how any woman could allow that repulsive creature to touch them. I don’t care if his dick is made of diamonds and he’s gonna give me a billion dollars, UGH he makes my skin crawl! And he might have the ugliest mouth on the planet. GROSS!!!

  17. Lenore says:

I thought he already had a general reputation for being, if not a total douchebag sleaze, then just a bit of a tosser? Rude to fans, a bit full of himself – not an appalling human being, just a bit of a tit.

And frankly, whenever I see Scrubs I just see, “Geeky guy who never got laid in high school has engineered a show in which he acts geeky and yet manages to get off, in reality or fantasy, with an incredibly hot chick every other episode. Plus Garden State has that typical “dorky protagonist bags deliriously gorgeous quirky indie dream girl” thing.

When your hit show is basically a vehicle for you to act out your fantasies anyway, and your first movie as writer/director is designed to get you off with Natalie Portman, it’s not a stretch to me that he would treat his whole career that way.

(Can you tell I find him off-putting?)

  18. Michelle says:

I’ve heard rumours about him too, but I love Scrubs and his character on it so much I’m in denial :p And he was actually really good looking about 10 years ago when the show started (check out season 1), I really doubt he had trouble with the ladies.

  20. kiki says:

i heard he has a list of girls in hollywood he wants to sleep with and he hires them in order to check them off. i think that was on gawker or something. plus he cheated on mandy moore who is the sweetest celebrity in the world so he must be a douche

  21. neelyo says:

I don’t know the name of it, basically it’s something like ‘MaleCelebritiesWhoLookLikeOlderLesbians.com’ or something but the website where they feature celebrities who look like older lesbians? He’s going to be on it in the next three years.

  22. tooey says:

    @KIKI, me, too!!!

  23. Amy says:

i always did get a bit of a sleezy vibe from him, so it wouldnt surprise me.

  24. ana says:

Argh KEK that’s so intriguing! Details please!!!!!

  25. Ally says:

The homely fellas who can suddenly pull girls previously way out of their league because they’re famous and potential rich husbands and most girls in Hollywood feel like they have to have a star boyfriend even if he’s homely or else they feel like a loser — those homely fellas carry that rejection chip on their shoulder til the end of time and will go after anything bimbtastic that moves forever. (See also: David Spade, Tiger Woods, John Mayer.)

By the way, Aniston turning down the dinner… simplest explanation is she didn’t want to be in his lame-o movie (not that she doesn’t have her own brand of lame-o movies) and/or had had enough of fake younger douchey boyfriend pap romances after Mayer.

  26. JaneLane says:

Neelyo, what a great homophobic comment.

  27. Madchen says:

Skeezy, douchey, and arrogant — and this dude’s got nuthin. A leading man’s ego in a character actor’s body. Ick.

  28. Emily says:

I’ve always found thereto be something of putting about him. And ever since I heard rumours about him cheating on Mandy Moore, I’ve actively disliked him.

  29. mslewis says:

Over at gossipcop they are saying this whole story is a lie. I mean, how shocking is that? The ragmags get it wrong again.

  30. lucy2 says:

I’ve heard rumors about him for some time.

I think there’s a big difference between hitting on someone in a social situation vs. promising someone a movie role if they hop on the casting couch with him.

  31. Lala11_7 says:

It seemed like he changed when he started believing his press…which is NEVER a good thing!!!

  32. Orbit says:

Of course he’s a lech. That was plain years ago.

  33. GimmeABreak says:

@KEK: Your friend had a sleezy one night stand/threesome with him? And HE’S the douche? Uh….I beg to differ. Your “friend” sounds like the sleezeball, douche bag who’s star struck enough to drop their drawers.

    He’s just an opportunist.

  34. Ms. Nguyen says:

Hello. Zach has invited me to his place.
What kind of wine does he like? Do you know him long time?

  35. Popcorny says:

    Scrubs is a riot.
Look at that poor guy, he’s just trying to work with what he’s got -and that’s not much.
If a woman(or man) is going to “give it up” for fringe benefits then they’re equal partners in skeaze (same for the above sorta-mentioned two who tagged-teamed the turtle-boy). -I think there should be no stone throwing from that cast of glass.

  36. Ursula says:

Never liked him, never liked Scrubbs. Something about him.
