Kevin Federline seems to be mellowing with age, despite his hard-partying, blunt-smoking reputation. In a recent interview with In Touch, the former back-up dancer says he is trying to stay positive about co-parenting his children with ex-wife Britney Spears despite the drama of the last year.

Kevin Federline and his ex-wife, Britney Spears, have had more than their fair share of bad times. But as he turns 30, Kevin tells In Touch that he’s put his anger behind him — he has become a good father and a caring friend to his exes. “I will always love the mothers of my children, and I will always be there for both of them,” Kevin, who also has two children with his ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, explains in an exclusive interview with In Touch. “I believe that any good energy I put out there brings more good energy into my own life,” he says. “The relationships with my kids and family will last my whole life and are the most important to me.”

Kevin’s behavior post-split with Spears certainly bears this out- although I’m having a hard time believing that Federline was that articulate, based on his less than stellar vocabulary and voiceover work from the ill-fated reality show, “Chaotic: Britney and Kevin.” But that’s beside the point. K-Fed says that the first year after the divorce, during which Britney had the mother of all breakdowns and was hospitalized twice, was “rough,” but he remained focused on his children throughout that time. Now, he says, he and Spears are in a better place as co-parents are get along better “for the sake of the boys.”

For nearly a year after they separated in November 2006, Kevin and Britney barely spoke. But in recent months, Kevin reveals, they’ve become close again, mainly for Preston and Jayden’s sake. As Britney gets help for her mental issues, she may soon play a more active role in their sons’ lives — and Kevin is glad for that. “It is so very important to me that my children will always know and never question, that no matter what happens, they have a mommy and daddy who love them very much,” he says.

On his long-term goals
Kevin shares, “I’m going to be the best role model for my kids. And if that example helps other young, single dads who might be going through the same experiences that I am right now, it would be a great compliment.”

While there is still a slight aroma of douchiness around Kevin, he does deserve credit for giving his children a safe, stable environment amid all the nuttiness of their mother’s lifestyle. The days of seeing those two boys, frightened and helpless in the back of Britney’s convertible, are thankfully long gone. He should also be commended for not giving up on allowing Britney to visit with the boys, even after the much-publicized stand-off with the cops that ultimately got her hospitalized. A lot of custodial parents would have pulled the plug on visitation after a stunt like that, but Kevin gave Britney some time to stabilize, and the supervised visits with the boys seem to be working well for everyone.

As long as Kevin doesn’t try to rap anymore, he’s cool with me.

I always have to wonder what politicians think about some of their celebrity endorsements. I’m sure just about everyone would love to get the likes of George Clooney, Oprah, and Tom Hanks on their side. But what must they think when someone like Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, or Paris Hilton endorses a candidate? To be fair, I think it’s highly unlikely that any of those particular celebs even know who’s running for president… in fact they might not even be clear on who is currently the president. I’m pretty sure Paris thinks it’s Bush senior, and he’s just been there for a really long time. And while Mariah Carey is no Britney Spears (though they both have had a few public meltdowns), one can’t help but wonder if Barack Obama really wants her endorsement. How does one politely say, “Gee, thanks but no thanks,” to someone like Mimi, without getting a stiletto imprinted somewhere on your backside?

“Are you watching the debates?” asked Yo.

“Clearly I’m no political analyst. We all know that my album is called E=MC2 but I’m not exactly friggin Einstein,” joked the “Love Takes Time” singer. “So basically I like to leave that to people who know what they are talking about, but I am very much more focused on this moment in our history.”

“Have you picked anyone?” asked Yo.

“Yes, clearly,” she answered.

“Can you say?”

“That’s personal but it’s pretty obvious,” the entertainer replied.

“Come on Mariah, ‘Yes we can’ Mr. Barack Obama?’

Like Britney Spears, Mariah also had a very public meltdown several years ago, nearly stripping off her clothes on MTV’s “TRL.” But instead of flaunting the crazy like Brit, Mariah checked herself into a hospital (for the classic celeb “exhaustion”), took some time off, got her shit together, and came back with her strongest album ever, 2005’s “ The Emancipation of Mimi.” Though Mariah has always stated she’s not in a position to give Britney Spears advice, she did say that what got her through her public meltdown was her faith, and that Britney’s still got a chance to make a comeback.

On life after the bomb that was 2001’s Glitter album and movie and her subsequent comeback, Carey pointed to her faith as a source of strength. “You know what, I never lost my faith in God and that’s the main thing,” she noted. “For me its about my personal relationship with God and just feeling centered and just not letting anything really penetrate that. That’s something that’s sacred for me that I have for myself no matter what.”

In light of the personal crisis Carey faced in the wake of Glitter’s failure when she checked herself into a hospital to be treated for an emotional and physical breakdown, Yo also got her take on the Britster’s current travails and whether or not the pop tart can recover.

“I think anybody who loves music and is committed to the game can do whatever. I never count people out, that’s just not in my nature but that is a part of human nature, people like to do that but with me especially with making this new record, its all about the music.”

Mariah’s right in that she’s no Einstein, but she’s clearly gotten her act together since her breakdown. It’s cool that she doesn’t pretend to know what’s best for Britney Spears; but it’d be nice if someone pointed out to Britney that there’s another singer out there who took a pretty big fall and managed to come out even stronger for it.

It looks like the long, painful, over-saturated saga of Britney Spears might finally be coming to a head. It’s been about as entertaining as watching someone pull the wings off a fly. But, now that Britney has been held longer than 20 hours on 5150 lockdown, reputable healthcare professionals are finally able to assess her condition. It’s worse than we all suspected:

Sources at UCLA Medical Center tell TMZ Britney Spears has been classified as “G.D.” - Greatly Disabled. That is a huge and dangerous deal. That means the patient is unable to take care of basic needs, such as the acquisition of food, clothing or shelter. Being G.D. is one of the criteria for involuntary commitment.

Several health care professionals tell us Britney has fallen into a “manic state” due to her bipolar disorder. We’re also told, she arrived at the hospital this morning at around 2:15 AM but wasn’t admitted until 4:15 AM, because she was causing such a scene in the hospital.

We first reported that Britney accused her mother of sleeping with her boyfriend. Now we have more. We’re told Britney screamed, “the only reason she’s admitting me is because she wants to be alone with her boyfriend! She wants to sleep with my boyfriend!!” Britney never said exactly who she was talking about.

When Brit calmed down, she talked about her kids, how much she misses them and how it’s unfair that she doesn’t have them.

Earlier, it was revealed that Britney’s drug of choice is Adderall, the prescription medication used to treat ADD, and she has been using laxatives.

Lynne Spears, who has been estranged from her eldest daughter for most of the past year, said she was “devastated” by how badly Britney’s condition had deteriorated. Hopefully, the severity of Britney’s condition will give Lynne the strength to do the right thing and get Britney some help. Unless she commits her, Britney could voluntarily leave the hospital– and this time, she might not survive.

Days before Britney Spears’ “carefully orchestrated intervention,” her mother Lynne Spears “flew out” to L.A. Sunday and was shocked to see how badly the singer’s mental condition had deteriorated, a source close to the singer tells Usmagazine.com.

“Lynne was devastated,” a source tells Us. “She hadn’t seen her in a while and to see her deteriorated to this level – what mother wouldn’t be affected by that? It’s awful.”

Over the weekend, pal Sam Lutfi phoned The View’s Barbara Walters, saying that the the singer and her estranged mom were back on speaking terms.

Though the two appeared terse at a Beverly Hills Mercedes-Benz dealership Tuesday morning, Walters quoted Lutfi as saying, “her mother has been very supportive of whatever it is that Britney is trying to do.”

Last night the singer was taken to UCLA Medical Center in a “carefully orchestrated intervention,” the source says. (Lynne arrived with Spears’ latest beau, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib.)

The singer “had been up since Saturday without any sleep,” the source tells Us.

I truly hope that this is the end of the crazy and the beginning of the healing process for Britney. I’ve said some pretty harsh things about her on this very blog, but right now, I feel really sorry for her. I still believe that a lot of her problems were self-inflicted; and whether she is bipolar or not remains to be seen. She could also be a prescription drug abuser, and she is still a very spoiled young woman who has been out of touch with reality for quite some time. But she is a person– and she is going through hell right now. In front of the whole world.

There are also rumors that her family will be taking Britney back home to Louisiana to finish her recovery. That may be the best thing for her right now. It would be great if we didn’t have to report on the next crazy Britney episode here, and it would be even better if Sean Preston and Jayden James had a healthy, supportive mother in their lives.

It’s hard to follow what’s going on with Britney lately, and part of me really doesn’t want to bother, but the main thing is that she was photographed crying and sitting on the curb after her friend Sam Lufti was seen publicly berating her, presumably over her relationship with Adnan. She called Adnan and left a message asking him to come by and help her out, but he could not reach her, presumably because Lufti had turned off her handful of phones. Then Adnan tried to get into Britney’s estate, but the security guard wouldn’t let him in on Lufti’s orders. Cops were called because some of the photographers were rushing the gates. Britney eventually hung out with another photographer instead, and both her parents came over to help her out.

Here’s a good breakdown of what happened, thanks to jughood on ONTD:

-Brit and her manager Sam had a huge fight in a car outside her gated community.
-Brit got out the car, crying, and pleads with the photogs to leave her along. Video can be found on TMZ and x17’s websites. It’s very upsetting footage.
-Flipie, the photog, picks up Brit and drives her to her home, then leaves. Brit calls Adnan saying “Baby, can you come get me?”
-Police show up after photogs try to enter the gated community, and leave a short time later.
-Most surprising news, BRITNEY’S PARENTS SHOW UP. “The scene inside Britney’s home right now is not pretty. Apparently Britney is very emotional and cannot stop crying. Both of her parents — mom Lynne and father Jamie — are with her now.” It was reported earlier today that she had begun communicating with them a little bit.
-Adnan shows up, but gets denied access to her gated community.
-Brit heads off towards Beverly Hills with photog Filipe, goes to Ralph’s grocery store, then meets up with Adnan, and speeds down the freeway….

Updates: Sam Lutfi, Britney’s manager, started an argument with her and the two ended up in a screaming fight. Sam continued to verbally abuse Britney as she sat barefoot on the curb at her Summit home crying holding her dog London.

Britney called Adnan for help and he heard the distress in her voice and drove to the Summit immediately. While outside the gates he was denied access as Sam Lutfi had informed the guards that he was not allowed entry. When Adnan then tried to call Britney it seems that Sam had turned all of her cell phones off…

When Jamie Spears turned up, the guards would not let him in, as Sam Lutfi would not let anyone get near Britney’s house. It was only after photographers standing outside explained the situation and who he was that Jamie was allowed access to The Summit home. He looked extremely distressed.

More details about what went down tonight: Sam screamed “Go fuck your Paparazzi boyfriend!” before speeding off. A teary eyed Spears sat on the curb holding her Yorkshire terrier ‘London’ and sporting what looked like a red mark on her face. Minutes after, Spears had driven down to her house, paparazzo boyfriend Adnan turned up at the gates of The Summit only to be denied access. The security at the Summit have been ordered by Sam not to let Ghalib in through the gates. Hoards of police arrived, and helicopters circled overhead…

Finalpixx, Adnan’s photog company, just posted “Britney is spending her evening in the company of her parents and Adnan.”

The news recently came out that Britney’s hanger-on Sam has three restraining orders against him and a long history of making threats of violence against people. One of his ex friends said that Lufti manipulated him emotionally and made threats against his family. It’s interesting that Sam’s relationship with Britney came to a head right after his was published:

There are at least two other outstanding restraining orders against Lutfi. Documents for both cases demonstrate his violent temper. This third case, however, raises deeper and more chilling questions about Lutfi’s character, and about his relationship with Britney….

Haines says their relationship was not romantic or sexual but that Lutfi was more jealous than a lover. He could be supportive one day and vicious the next, leaving voicemails tracing extremes from “You’re a worthless motherfucker” to “I love you, man. I love you to death.” He says that although Lutfi also made some feckless gestures toward an old-fashioned con job—Haines claims Lutfi borrowed about $18,000 that he did not pay back, though Lutfi’s mother finally settled much of the debt—Lutfi reserved most of his energy for emotional blackmail and extortion. “Everybody hates you,” he wrote to Haines, suggesting that Haines should just kill himself: “Seriously, sleeping pills, LOTS of them … ” (Lutfi declined to comment for this story.)

When Haines finally cut the cord, Lutfi humiliated him. He ­e-mailed naked photographs of Haines to his family, friends, colleagues and employer. Then he texted and called incessantly, telling Haines he hoped his sister would be “raped to death,” according to the restraining order. In an e-mail about Haines’s mother (“that Mormon bitch”), Lufti wrote, “I hope Satan devours her flesh and bones,” and said he looked forward to the day when he would “piss on [her] burial.”

TMZ has video of Britney walking around aimlessly and crying as photographers shout questions at her, and it’s disturbing. She looks like she has a welt on the left side of her face but that could be due to crying as it doesn’t appear in other photos later that night.

ONTD has text messages that Lufti supposedly sent Adnan telling him to stay away from her, and given his history you would assume that he’s being controlling, not helpful. US Weekly reports that the fight with Sam was over the fact that he wanted her to see a psychologist and that he was telling her to talk to her mother. That all sounds supportive, but who knows if it went down that way.

One more thing happened last night - it looks like Britney and Adnan had a flat tire after they were finally reunited, as WENN has photos of it and it seems to have taken place later that night, but I could be mistaken. Do you want to start ignoring Britney again until her next major incident? I’m sorry to phrase it like it’s inevitable, and with Britney it’s expected. It’s also hard to tell what warrants reporting as she seems to top herself every day. Maybe she’ll accept her family’s help after this.

Paula Abdul has a long history of acting like a complete whack job. And then blaming it all on her pain meds. That excuse only goes so far. It can technically explain you acting loopy and drunk on a Seattle morning news show, even if no one buys it. It can’t explain you sounding like you swallowed a poltergeist. Paula Abdul was waiting at LAX (the airport, not the super-hip nightclub) when she went on some sort of psychotic bender according to passengers.

Paula Abdul, the braying, oft-drunk judge of landmark cultural institution American Idol, caused quite the scene at LAX over the holidays, according to a source. Says a tipster who saw her in the Continental Airlines terminal: “She had an insane nervous breakdown that lasted 10 minutes. One minute she was hyperventilating and on the verge of passing out; the next she was yelling into her cell phone in this deep, rage-filled Poltergeist voice. She kept screaming three names over and over—Michael, Sidney, and Leslie. Everyone was staring at her, but she didn’t care.”

There were no cameras around, so she wasn’t filming a scene for her train wreck reality show on Bravo. Still, hysterical outbursts aren’t exactly new territory for Abdul. Anyone have an idea what prompted this one? Or who Michael, Sidney, and Leslie might be? Let us know!

I haven’t actually seen her reality show “Hey Paula” but I know there was some debate regarding whether she was really crazy or just playing it up for the cameras. Until this most recent incident, Paula did always seem way too cheerful when she was acting all straightjacket-worthy. If this were almost anyone other than Paula Abdul, I’d be skeptical as to the veracity of the story. But it is Paula Abdul, and she’s eight kinds of crazy. You could tell me she scampered up a palm tree in the middle of Sunset Boulevard and I would absolutely believe it. In fact I’m kind of surprised she hasn’t done that yet. But give it until the end of the month, I’m sure Paula will start speaking in tongues and scamper up some kind of tree to gnaw on the foliage by then.

Britney Spears is with photographer and new boyfriend Adnan Ghalib in Palm Desert, California, where she drinking champagne for breakfast and he’s presumably getting plenty of exclusive shots of the world’s most-watched fallen celebrity. There was a story this weekend that Ghalib approached British papers with intimate photos of Britney that weren’t that revealing and wanted an astonishing $5 million for his story and the photos. The snaps were said to just show Britney on the couch with Ghalib with her hand on his knee, and he should have aimed lower or had more compromising photos. We’ve all seen Britney’s kitty on multiple occasions so it’s not like photos of her relaxing in one of the many hotels she frequents are going to bring much on the open market. There are also a ton of stories floating around about her many exploits, told by the guys who were along for the ride, so one more is not going to shock anyone.

Dr. Phil overstated his visit with Britney, violated hospital policy
Britney managed to sneak away from Cedars-Sinai hospital, where she was placed on a medical hold and released earlier than the standard 72 hour wait time, without being photographed. Dr. Phil claims to have counseled her for a full hour before she left, and will surely bring in huge ratings for having her folks on his show on Tuesday. He of course wanted to have Britney on too, but she wasn’t having any of that. TMZ has a story that contradicts Dr. Phil’s statement in which they say that Dr. Phil showed up after Britney was released, tried to talk to her for 15 minutes, and was summarily dismissed. They also say the TV psychologist didn’t walk her to her car as he claims, either. Given that it’s Britney and she won’t listen to anyone, it seems like TMZ has the right story.

Criticism of Dr. Phil for entering Britney’s room without patient permission
There’s also a story that Dr. Phil’s visit violated hospital policy in that he entered a patient’s room without it being cleared with her. TMZ consulted medical experts who say this is highly unprofessional and that Cedars-Sinai must have been starstruck by Dr. Phil, because his unannounced visit violated the patient’s rights and would typically not be allowed.

For his part Dr. Phil says that the family requested that he be involved and that he spoke to Britney’s mother, father, and her older brother before going to the hospital. Britney’s family was worried that she wasn’t going to be held longer, according to Dr. Phil.

Rumors and false stories in the case
It seems like this outrageous story is opening the floodgates for papers to make even more incredible claims about the situation in order to move copies. News of The World ran a story that would be laughable if the subject hadn’t already defied all belief. They claimed that Britney had a gun the night of the police standoff, that she offered Federline $100 million to hand over custody of the children to her, and that she took over 100 pills that night. It was also K-Fed who called the cops, not the court-appointed monitor, according to their account.

The LAPD has denied that there were any firearms involved, and I think we can safely assume that the majority of that story was fabricated.

PageSix reported that Spears’ “cousin” and assistant, Alli Sims, used a hammer to break down the bathroom door where Britney was holed up with her youngest child, Jayden James. This contradicts earlier reports that had all the staff leaving at least an hour before Britney was escorted out. Indeed, Sims denies that she broke down the door and says that she wasn’t even threre.

Was Britney’s drug test really negative and was she on something or just off the deep end?
Many of you have said that there’s no way Britney’s toxicology tests could have come back as soon as the report in Life & Style that all her drug tests were clean. Some commentors mention a rumor that Spears’ camp is leaking these false stories to the press in order to clear her name.

Courteney Love has speculated that Spears is taking too much Adderall, an ADHD prescription medication that has speed-like properties and can cause erratic behavior at high doses. Another report has her on Clenbuterol, a dangerous horse steroid that is being abused as a quick-fix diet drug.

Whatever happened to Britney, she’s dominating the news again. Surely she’s mentally ill, but she seems aware enough to realize that her episode has managed to take the focus off her young sister’s pregnancy. Many are pointing that out, while others are saying it’s just not fair to hold a mentally disturbed person to the same standards as the rest of us who just watch in disbelief.

Britney Spears has predictably lost visitation rights for her two children, Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, after her very public breakdown that followed a hostage situation in which she locked herself in a bathroom for over three hours and refused to hand over her youngest child. She has temporarily lost all visitation by court order until another hearing can be held on January 14.

The issue of whether Britney should be held accountable for her actions is a contentious one, with many people claiming that Britney is insane and deserves our pity, not our condemnation.

How much of Britney’s behavior is she personally responsible for?
There’s a lot of debate in the Britney Spears case as to which behavior she’s personally responsible for and what can be chalked up to mental illness. This isn’t a new issue, and the answer isn’t black and white. She’s clearly mentally unstable, and might meet diagnostic criteria for a specific mental disorder, we’re not going to speculate too much but bipolar disorder, narcissistic personal disorder and even schizophrenia have been mentioned. Even if she is certifiably insane, how much of her behavior should she be held accountable for? I found some articles on the issue of mental illness and personal responsibility that were too technical for me to understand, but this question and answer from Yahoo! Canada Answers is interesting and food for thought:

Question from Desi Dani: If everything is due to chemical imbalances, where does personal responsibilities come into play? If man can use the excuse of being mentally ill or depressed, where does that leave personal responsibility? What about conscious choices? Is there an excuse for everything?

Why do people use the mental excuse when they have done something that is unbecoming; yet when they done something that is becoming it is a conscious choice, a personal decision?

Chosen Answer from Pete: Because personal responsibility doesn’t seem as common as it used to be. That’s not saying that mental illness shouldn’t be recognized, but people shouldn’t use it as an excuse for not being accountable for their actions.

Andrea Yates drowned five of her children in the bathtub and she did it systematically, chasing them down until she caught and murdered all of them. She was declared clinically insane, and it seems you’d have to be to commit such a cruel act. Does that mean she shouldn’t spend the rest of her life in an institution because she was crazy and not responsible for her actions? Of course not. The criminal justice system sets it up so that she is not punished like a sane person who would have committed the same crime, but so that she is effectively removed from society and cannot harm others in the future.

Britney Spears took one of her children hostage and refused to hand him over by court order, even after police arrived at her home. Whether she was insane or not, she should have to face the consequences of her actions. If those consequences involve extended treatment for a mental illness instead of jail time then so be it. Either way, she’s not able to be around her children, even with supervision, and should possibly undergo treatment so that she doesn’t harm herself or others.

People are focused too much on criticism of Britney at what must be a very difficult time for her. There’s criticism of Britney because she committed a criminal act that endangered her child. If all crazy people who threatened and hurt others were pitied and coddled instead of ordered to undergo treatment and/or punished, society wouldn’t function. Did anyone really say “wow, I feel so sorry for Andrea Yates, being so crazy that the devil told her to drown her kids like that?” But some say they feel sorry for Britney for traumatizing her little boys by locking them with her in a bathroom. I feel sorry for her children, not so much for her.

Also it’s interesting to note that when Britney seemed sane and able to hold somewhat rational conversations, she never took responsibility for her actions.
1. She blamed her near-drop of Sean Preston in the street on the uneven road, not the fact that she was wearing too long pants and was carrying a highball glass at the same time.
2. She said after she was caught driving with Sean Preston on her lap that her dad did it too when she was growing up and that “we’re country like that.”
3. She didn’t even leave a note when she hit someone’s car and multiple people witnessed and taped it
4. She blamed her mother and manager for sending her to rehab
5. She has repeatedly flouted requirements and even basic demands in her custody battle

So is Britney a person who does whatever she wants and doesn’t take responsibility, or is she a person suffering from a mental illness that forces her to do these things? I think the answer is a lot of both with some major exhibitionism mixed in.

Here’s what JayBird has to say about the matter. She has a criminal justice degree and I like her very human approach to what happened. She wrote this to me in an e-mail, which is why it has a more conversational tone.

Commentary from JayBird: What I’m guessing happened with Britney last night is that one little thing got totally out of control. What probably started out as just an act of selfishness “No I don’t wanna” quickly escalated because she had someone involved with the criminal justice system (the monitor) there. She was probably behaving in a way that she has before, but she had someone there who wouldn’t react like the other people around her react. Then she probably got scared and didn’t know what to do. And when people start treating you like you’re REALLY crazy (not regular Britney crazy) you start to feel like you are, or feel like you have to act that way. Especially when you don’t have the maturity to know better. Also, people throw out things about killing themselves and things that sound like “self harm” to a professional, without necessarily meaning them in that way. But it’s hard to convince someone of that. Don’t get me wrong, I think Brit is crazy. But I don’t think there was enough evidence that she actually was asylum-worthy until last night. I’m really thinking she didn’t have any idea things would escalate the way they did, and thought people would just give in to her whims. The whole thing is so confusing, and oddly, it’s the only time I’ve ever had any sympathy for her.

The law of course varies greatly state by state, and all of my criminal justice knowledge is based on WA law. But in Washington, CPS would take her kids away for a one month period, during which time the burden would be on Britney to prove that she was a fit parent. Traditionally, the law does whatever it can to keep parents and kids together. However at this point, they’d be doing whatever they could to keep them apart.

I don’t know about you, but I think that she has an ethical personal responsibility to give up her kids, at least for now. Clearly she’s suffered a complete mental breakdown, and that can take a year or two to recover from. I almost think this might end up being a good thing for her. She wasn’t listening to anyone else before. But if the law gets involved not just in her parenting, but in her mental health, then she may be forced to get help.

I’m getting burnt out on this Britney Spears fiasco and it’s only been going on for a day. The details keep pouring in, and here are the latest, thanks to Access Hollywood.

Emergency custody hearing was held this morning
There was an emergency custody hearing between K-Fed’s lawyer, Mark Kaplan, and Britney’s lawyer, Tara L. Scott. It is unknown what the outcome was, but I think we can safely assume Britney has lost her meager supervised visitation rights with her two boys.

MSNBC has a legal expert who says that Britney probably won’t be able to see her children much after pulling this stunt.

The court-appointed monitor called the cops, not K-Fed or his bodyguard
Access Hollywood reports that the court-appointed monitor was the one who called when Britney would not surrender the boys, and that it wasn’t Kevin Federline’s bodyguard or K-Fed himself, as was speculated.

There’s a California law that all children involved in domestic disputes need to be brought to the hospital for evaluation
In California, it is mandated that if there’s a domestic dispute and a child is involved they need to be evaluated at a hospital afterwards for physical or emotional trauma. This certainly would fall under those guidelines:

According to People’s Deputy Managing Editor Peter Castro, in California there is a law stating that if there is an incident at a home involving children, they are required to go to a hospital and get checked for physical and mental issues.

In this case they were cleared of both, but not after a very long time in the hospital.

“This was a hostage situation,” Castro told Access.

The court appointed monitor reportedly was the person who called the police.

What the hell is wrong with Britney?
This is a former pop star who is mentally unstable and not willing to take responsibility for her children. She’s desperate for any kind of attention, particularly since her sister recently announced her pregnancy at the tender age of 16. She’s not willing to work for a comeback or do much more than follow her every whim, begging us to watch her along the way. She’s like a spoiled little child and it seems that she did this out of desperation, and certainly not because she wanted to stay with her boys, who she usually ignores.

I don’t feel sorry for her at all, and hope she goes away to the country where she has to learn to clean up after herself, cook meals, and do laundry. Her only choices every day should be which vegetable she gets to eat with dinner and what kind of handcrafts she’ll do while watching whatever television is deemed safe enough for her to view, probably something over 50 years old and without color.

Britney not under the influence of illegal drugs
Life and Style reports that they have a source that claims that Britney’s blood test from Cedars Sinai came back negative for drugs and that she was not under the influence of illegal substances. So she’s just crazy and/or whacked out on prescription drugs. It occurred to me that she may have abruptly gone off a prescription medication or started a new one and that might explain her very erratic behavior. She could of course just be crazy, but if you start or suddenly stop using psychiatric medication it can dramatically affect your moods. You should wean off medication for depression and/or anxiety and start slowly to ensure that it’s the right dosage and medication for you.

Britney locked herself in the bathroom with Sean Preston and Jayden James, let SP go
Page Six reports that Britney locked herself in the bathroom with the boys, eventually letting one go:

According to reports, when Kevin Federline’s bodyguard showed up to collect Sean Preston and Jayden James, Britney locked herself in the bathroom with both boys and wouldn’t come out. She also refused to let the boys leave, so cops were called to the house. A source told PageSix.com that Britney was “hysterical and just wanted to keep the kids overnight.” The insider says that Britney wasn’t making any sense and “kept saying she wanted to stay with the kids.”

K-Fed’s lawyer refused to make a statement
I was watching TMZ’s “live feed” of the much-anticipated press conference with K-Fed’s lawyer, Mark Kaplan, and all that happened was that a co-worker of Kaplan’s came out and said that due to the sensitive nature of the situation he would not be making a statement. No questions about the welfare of the children or Britney were answered.

Jayden James is likely ok
Everyone is worried that something happened to Jayden James after he was taken to the hospital along with Britney, but PageSix reports that a source says he’s “going to be fine.” It seems like he was taken to the hospital for observation as they wanted to make sure he was ok after the “hostage” type situation he was in.

The rumor that Britney was screaming that she “Would rather die than let him have my babies”
This is based on an all caps unsubstantiated Oh No They Didn’t post from a “source inside Cedars Sinai” and might not be true:

brenden JUST RECEIVED A CALL FROM AN ONTD MEMBER/SOURCE THAT IS INSIDE CEDARS-SINAI RIGHT NOW. THE SOURCE SAID THAT - WHILE BEING TRANSPORTED DOWN THE HALLWAY AFTER HER ARRIVAL - BRITNEY WAS SCREAMING THAT SHE WOULD RATHER DIE THAN “LET HIM HAVE MY BABIES.” AFTER REPEATEDLY SCREAMING THAT SHE WANTED TO DIE, BRITNEY WAS APPARENTLY RESTRAINED BY HOSPITAL STAFF AND MAY HAVE BEEN SEDATED.

While that might not be exactly what she said and we have no way of verifying that, it is true that she was likely considered a suicide risk. She was deemed a “special case” by Cedars Sinai, which means that she was either suicidal or overdosed. No wonder they brought Jayden in for observation.

Videos of Britney and the media circus last night
Here’s a video of Britney’s cavalcade arriving at the hospital, thanks to Hollywood.TV via ONTD. It shows the circus that surrounded her that night. Britney is shown very briefly at 2 minutes into the video sitting up on the gurney looking around wide-eyed. She reminds me of a trapped animal. K-Fed is seen trying to hide in his car as he drives into the hospital near the end.

There’s also a video of Kevin Federline speeding and driving erratically trying to lose the paparazzi. The children were not with him at the time.

Update Another video from Celeb.tv that shows Britney briefly in the ambulance at 30 seconds before the end. The paramedics try to put a sheet over her head and she keeps pulling it down and smiling!

Details on the Britney Spears major meltdown have been clarified, and OK! Magazine has a much clearer breakdown of what happened last night. Many of you wonder why so many firetrucks, ambulances, and helicopters needed to be on the scene for a simple custody dispute and the answer is that it’s because it was Britney. Whatever she does is publicly scrutinized and when she screws up royally like this all the response teams are clamoring to be there. Hopefully real emergencies and victims weren’t neglected in LA during the massive circus that surrounded Britney’s home.

Britney essentially took Jayden hostage
The reason one-year old Jayden had to be taken to the hospital is because Sean Preston was already released into his father’s custody, but Britney kept Jayden and refused to hand him over during the four hour standoff with police. When Britney was taken to the hospital for evaluation, presumably because they considered herself a threat to herself or others, they also took Jayden in another ambulance.

Britney’s assistant Carla and her “cousin” Alli left the house at 11:00 pm, leaving Britney alone inside with Jayden until 11:45 when she was escorted out on a gurney by paramedics and driven to Cedars-Sinai medical center. Britney was seen with what looked like a restraint on one of her legs and may have been taken forcibly.

Jayden’s father, Kevin Federline, their other child, Sean Preston, and Federline’s lawyer were at the hospital when Britney arrived. Britney’s father Jamie, with whom she has had no contact for nearly eight months, and her friend Sam Lufti also came to the hospital.

Britney is being held for observation and will probably be booked when she is released
Britney will most likely face charges after she undergoes an observation period at Cedars-Sinai. OK! Magazine reports that they plan to keep her for 24 hours after which time she will be booked by police. Update: She is on 72 hour lockdown - see below.

She is either on drugs, having a major mental meltdown or both
While police say Britney was “under the influence of an unknown substance,” she has passed all the recent drug tests she’s shown up for, with one instance in which a prescription drug was said to have caused a false positive. Some sources claim she’s simply mentally unstable.

Britney will lose visitation rights with children
Kevin Federline’s lawyer is now on his way to court to request that Britney be denied visitation with the children at least temporarily while her mental state can be assessed. It is most likely that the request will be granted, and that’s a good thing for the sake of her children.

Update: Britney is on 72 hour lockdown, was “hysterical” on gurney
Britney is on 72 hour lockdown at Cedars-Sinai as she was deemed a threat to herself and/or others. She will be under constant observation. Sources tell US Magazine that she alternated between laughing and acting hysterical when she was taken away. She was designated a “special needs” patient, which a source tells US Weekly means that the patient has “either overdosed or tried to commit suicide.”
