Earlier this month, The Enquirer and Star Magazine began questioning the state of Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mazvinsky’s six-month-old marriage. Marc had quit his job in New York, and it seems that he was spending his new “free time” skiing in Wyoming while is wife stayed in New York. Words like “crisis” and “annulment” were thrown around in the tabloid reporting, and shortly after the stories broke, Marc was back in New York, attending glitzy event with Chelsea. But… the tabloids still smell blood in the water. This week’s National Enquirer reports that members of Marc’s family are “concerned” that he’s headed for some kind of psychological breakdown.

Chelsea Clinton’s husband is headed to a mental hospital, friends fear, as a bitter feud between their families adds more fuel to their ongoing marriage woes. Chelsea is desperately trying to keep the problems out of the public eye by smiling for the cameras as she parades her husband Marc around New York. But Marc is not the same person ever since he high-tailed it back to Chelsea’s side.

In an exclusive interview two weeks ago, Marc’s first cousin Andrea Mezvinsky talked about him “undergoing a crisis” and revealed family members were deeply concerned that he was cracking up.

Sources say Marc has been deepluy troubled that the Clinton clan encouraged him to break ties with her father, former Iowa congressman and convicted felon Ed Mezvinsky – and that he seems headed for a breakdown that they believe will land him in a psychiatric ward. The sources added that Marc’s dad, not out of jail, blames Bill and Hillary for his son’s problems.

“The things that have happened to Ed since this whole Clinton situation took place are unthinkable! He’s been treated ina disgusting way by everybody involved, and he’s very upset,” Margot Mezvinsky, Ed’s daughter from his first marriage and Marc’s half-sister, tells the Enquirer.

Marc allegedly flew to Wyoming after a knock-down fight with Chelsea, all about starting a family. Now, with the interfamily bitterness deepening, “there’s fear Marc is headed to a mental hospital… in public, Chelsea is taking Marc everywhere, but behind the scenes, he’s depressed.

Eh. Here’s my take: I think Marc probably is having some kind of moment, some kind of depression or crisis. I think Chelsea and the Clintons wouldn’t be pouncing on every story and denying everything unless there was something there. But I don’t think Marc is headed for some massive breakdown or anything – he probably just needs a vacation (with his wife), needs some sleep, and maybe some talk therapy, or some antidepressants, and a new job.

Star Magazine has a rather obvious story this week about Christina Aguilera’s “crisis”. It’s basically a summary of what has already been reported in other outlets – Christina is drinking heavily, and gaining weight. She passed out during Jeremy Renner’s birthday party, although we aren’t sure whether she passed out in his bed. She verbally assaulted Julianne Hough at a Golden Globes after-party. She’s a mess.

But there are some new details, via Jezebel – apparently, not only was Christina drunk off her ass and looking for a fight at the Globes, she also “kept lifting her dress and making out with her boyfriend.” Oh, and not only is Christina packing on booze weight, but she’s also “bruised”. Like, when you’re drunk all the time, of course you’re bumping into everything. Also: Jordan Bratman, Christina’s estranged husband, is so OVER her boozy, floozy ways that he’s already making plans to file for sole physical custody of their 3-year-old son Max.

If that’s not bad enough, several days ago E! News ran a report claiming that Christina was totally headed towards a Britney Spears-style breakdown:

Before Britney Spears was in and out of rehab, had supervised visits with her children, and, oh yeah, shaved her head, the now almost back to normal starlet coped with her divorce from Kevin Federline in a very similar way.

She was quick to snatch up a boyfriend (Isaac Cohen) and one that she sugar mama’d a bit, too. Her nights were quickly consumed with party and club hopping, even though she paled around with the likes of Paris Hilton, and was rarely seen in.

Now, Christina seems to just be entering this Stage 1 and having some tipsy nights. But by the stories getting passed around Hollywood, many industry folks are whispering she’s going down “the Britney Spears path.”

Yes, that is a term used regularly around in this town. It’s adjacent to “the Lindsay Lohan route,” too.

Reading through the comments yesterday, almost half of you defended Xtina saying we’ve all been there. Sure, most people have on occasion. Unfortunately, this boozy behavior is supposedly becoming a pattern.

So does she get a free pass if she’s going through a divorce? Some of us have been there, too, and it’s damn difficult.

Anyway, we’re going to be hearing a lot more about Christina in the coming weeks because she was chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. It’s like the Super Bowl organizers are just inviting disaster. Seriously, they couldn’t have found someone who isn’t in the midst of a breakdown?

David Arquette has been looking rough for a while now – even before he and Courteney Cox announced their split (when they were separated, but had yet to tell people), David seemed out of sorts, and like he reverted back to his hard-partying, bachelor ways. Since he and Cox announced the split, it’s gotten worse. From the TMI with Howard Stern, to the admissions about sex with club girl Jasmine Waltz, to the drunken nights with midgets, to the drunken nights with club girls, David has been a mess. Anyway, on Wednesday, David went on Howard Stern AGAIN, and this time, David talked openly about how he’s in the midst of a nervous breakdown:

David Arquette is losing it — just ask him. During another rambling, painfully honest radio appearance on the Howard Stern Show Wednesday — his third since his split from Courteney Cox — Arquette, 39, admitted he’s on shaky ground indeed.

Even the unflappable Howard Stern was concerned. “Are you having a nervous breakdown?” the shock jock asked. “I believe so,” a raspy-voiced Arquette replied.

During his one-hour chat, Arquette said that “everybody is worried and concerned about me,” and that he’s seeing a psychiatrist weekly.

He admitted he’s been partying pretty hard — especially at a recent holiday party hosted by Adam Sandler, in which he drunkenly called Tom Cruise “Sean.” “I was a little wasted,” Arquette says. “Someone says ‘Hi David!’, and I said, ‘Hi Sean! Then I realized it was Tom Cruise. And his beautiful wife [Katie Holmes] was there.”

Cruise wasn’t offended, Arquette said. “Tom was cool about it…I was so embarrassed. I was like ‘I gotta get the f*** out of here.’”

Why the heavy drinking? “I’ve been drinking a lot because I’m heartbroken,” he said. “It’s really a personal, traumatic thing.”

But he added that he had a “semi religious” epiphany recently: “When I drink, I become a maniac.” Arquette said he’s not drinking at all anymore. “When you wake up and reality hits you, it’s hard.”

As he’s said before, his estranged wife Cox, 46, “didn’t want to be my mother. But I kind of need a mother.”

He’s lonely, too. “I want love in my life,” he said. “I need love in my life.”

The father to Coco, 6, wants more kids — and he wishes the mom could be his ex girlfriend Drew Barrymore. “I know she is with Justin Long and everything, but would cool would an Arquette-Barrymore child be?” he said. “From a pure breeding standpoint.”

He put another obscure rumor to rest: “I [am] not messing around with Kelly Osbourne.”

Jesus. I know I should be all “He should get some serious help” and honestly, he should. But part of me also thinks this is just his post-split phase, something he needs to just get out his system. Courteney is off boning Brian Van Holt, and David has (slowly) come to the realization that she left their marriage NOT because of something he did or didn’t do, but because she just wanted to bone other dudes. And this is devastating to David. I hope it’s just a phase – and I agree with him, that he’s probably the kind of guy who needs to be in a relationship, and that he needs to be “mothered” (“nurtured”) by the woman in his life. That happens… and there are a lot of guys like that. And David and Drew Barrymore isn’t the worst idea. Think about it, Drew.

Okay, so I finally got to see Kelly Bensimon’s epic meltdown on the season finale on RHONY. I know that all of the ladies have come to conclusion that Kelly is seriously mentally ill, but it’s still kind of funny when Bethenny and Ramona go off to the side and Bethenny is like “I told you so! There’s something wrong with her!” I also like the new girl, Sonja or whatever muttering “I can’t even diffuse you anymore” to Kelly. Here’s Part 1 of the video:

Kelly doesn’t think there’s anything wrong in retrospect however. Is she back on her meds? We’ll never know. Kelly told Us Weekly: “Some people are like, ‘You had a breakdown,’ and I’m like, no, I had a breakthrough.” Kelly said she was “very anxious” about the vacation with the other RHONYs and “I was asked by women who don’t like me at all. I always have positive expectations of people, and I always think the best, and you know, that’s my Achilles’ heel, is that I’m positive and feel like people are going to be nice. But the nature of the show isn’t that. [They’re] not happy I’m on the show, they’re just not…I’m very sensitive, and if someone says something very rude to me over and over again, I’m human. Shoot me. I’m completely honest, I have a ton of integrity. The minute I walk into the room, I create…this stagnant frenetic energy. Let’s be honest. It makes for awesome TV…if they’re not hating on you, you’re not doing something right.” Crazy bitch.

Mischa Barton has spoken for the first time about her psychiatric hospitalization earlier this summer. She’s a smart woman, and her explanation sounds like she’s trying to be purposefully vague and not admit much. Mischa says that it all happened due to the intense pain she was in after having four wisdom teeth removed at once. She suffered terrible migraines and was under a lot of pressure from work. Barton doesn’t admit that she was on any painkillers, just that she couldn’t take them when she was working and that she suffering a lot a pain. She also says it wasn’t a breakdown exactly but won’t say if she was hospitalized due to drugs:

A lot of people are watching you now, speculating you were in rehab back in July.
Here’s what happened: Before the show started, I was traveling abroad for contract stuff and I went through a terrible surgery—a wisdom tooth surgery, all four removed. It was a nightmare. I’ve never had surgery before—it all went wrong and I had to have a second surgery and it almost delayed shooting because it was a nightmare to me, because I couldn’t deal with the thought of not getting there on time. So with the travel, and surgery and prep for the show—it was hell.

Is this when you were checked into Cedars?
Yeah, I went through a tough spot where everything compounded on me, and it was like a perfect storm, like everything was happening to me at once. The show, travel and then this fairly routine surgery that went wrong—it’s still just healing. But I had to get through it without proper painkillers because I couldn’t take those during work. So it’s been a nightmare.

How did you end up in a psychiatric hospital?
I was down in the dumps about everything there for a while. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom about things and have to get the most stressed-out just to feel better again. I got completely stressed-out and couldn’t handle everything, and now I feel really in control.

Was it an official nervous breakdown? Drugs?
I don’t know. I don’t know. I had a friend who had a quasi–nervous breakdown, but I’m not sure it’s the same thing. I’m not sure I’m capable of a full-on nervous breakdown, but it was pretty bad. It didn’t last that long. It was more about the pain. I have a newfound respect for people who have chronic pain. I started getting migraines.

How long were you in Cedars?
They don’t keep you in the hospital. I wasn’t there very long.

I’ve only had a couple wisdom teeth removed at once and it wasn’t that bad. I understand that if the teeth are compacted it can be incredibly painful, though. It probably was as awful as she’s saying, but the cause of her incident was most likely the drugs she was on, prescription or not, coupled with the pain. She’s not revealing much here, and I guess I don’t blame her. The press has moved on, and Mischa didn’t get much mileage out of this. As cynical as it sounds, you can understand why she’s talking about her hospitalization again now. Maybe if she was a little more open about it she would be getting more coverage.

The National Enquirer reports this week that Mischa loves to sing and play guitar and that she’s planning some sort of folk music CD. They write that “the 23-year-old actress has thrown herself into songwriting and hopes to release a CD of original folk-rock songs next year.” We’ll see if Mischa has any talent, but even if she doesn’t she’s sure to get some opportunities in the music industry given her name recognition.

She captured hearts all over the world- but then, the overexposure by the media and critics who questioned her talent got the better of her. Susan Boyle, who suffered an emotional breakdown after losing “Britain’s Got Talent” to a kids’ dance troop, has been released from a mental hospital.

British singing star Susan Boyle has left a clinic where she was taken earlier this week suffering from exhaustion, her brother said Friday.

Boyle, who became a global superstar through video clip sharing website YouTube after her appearance on the Britain’s Got Talent talent show is “much happier” following an anxiety attack, Gerry Boyle told ITV television.

The 48-year-old spinster was admitted to London’s exclusive Priory clinic on Sunday after suffering a shock defeat in the show’s final the night before.

“She’s much happier, she seems a lot more like herself,” Gerry Boyle said, adding that she was now staying in a London flat and had suffered an anxiety attack.

“Things are becoming clearer for her now. She’s now beginning to believe that ‘Yes indeed, I will be a singer’.”

She had been hot favourite to win with another rendition of I Dreamed A Dream, the song from the musical Les Miserables which propelled her to fame, but was beaten into second place by urban dance troupe Diversity.

There were signs she was struggling to cope with the pressure in the run-up to the final and she was taken to the clinic on Sunday in an ambulance after doctors assessed her under the Mental Health Act.

The Priory has declined to comment on individual patients.

Boyle is tipped to sign a lucrative recording contract following her success on the show.

You know, I’m a pretty cynical person, but watching this poor woman get chewed up and spit out by the media and public at large was pretty heart wrenching. Even in this article, they just can’t help referring to her as a “spinster.” I don’t think she asked for any of this. The woman just wanted people to hear her sing. Maybe she wasn’t the fabulous singer everyone wanted her to be, and maybe she got caught up in the excitement, but at the end of the day, she’s a regular person who was never trying to be a movie star or a pop singer. People need to remember that. Watching her get hounded by paparazzi and bashed by bloggers was tough – now imagine being her and trying to live through it. Then, to not win the title after all of that frenzy? It probably felt like her world was crashing in. Hang in there, Susan.

Samantha Ronson seems to be sending a not-so-subtle hint to the world about what Lindsay Lohan’s been up to. Instead of taking to her Twitter page to scream, “She’s doing blow!” Ronson instead whipped up a cake. Or stole a picture of a cake. But let’s assume she took to the kitchen in an angry, wrathful furor and had her way with a bag of flour and a whisk. And whipped up this beautiful concoction:







Yes, that is a cocaine cake. I had one just like it for my fifth birthday. I cannot tell you how long my mom slaved over it. All the other mothers admired it when they dropped their kids off. I bet Dina Lohan did the same thing for Lindsay when she was little. What a sweet, thoughtful way for Samantha to let Lohan know she’s still thinking about her.

In related news, Samantha’s family is in the process of trying to take out a restraining order against Lindsay. Basically because she’s batsh*t crazy. Lohan is said to be extremely upset that they’re doing this. Which makes me really, really happy.

Well connected sources tell TMZ Lindsay Lohan is “devastated” after learning members of Sam Ronson’s family are taking steps towards getting a restraining order against LiLo.

After Us Weekly broke the story that Sam’s mother and sister went to a Beverly Hills police station yesterday asking questions about the restraining order process, sources tell TMZ Lindsay has been an emotional wreck — crying uncontrollably.

We’re also told Sam has cut off all communication with Lohan — and that Lindsay isn’t handling it well. In fact, we’re told people close to Lindsay are worried she “might lash out.”

That whole thing about worrying Lohan “might lash out” is basically why Samantha’s mom and sister want to get a restraining order against her in the first place. They told police officers Lindsay acts out to get attention, and they had an intervention not for her drug use (which they also said is a problem), but for her behavior. Obviously they believe Lohan is unstable and might take her acting out too far and in some way harm them.

No matter how badly she feels right now, it’s really hard to have much sympathy for Lohan. She has no concept of mental stability or normalcy. That’s not entirely her fault – her parents didn’t raise her with any. And she is relatively young – she’s only 22. A lot of us were quasi-crazy at that age. But with Lindsay, you really get the sense that she has no shot of ever becoming a stable, rational adult. Best case scenario, you just hope she messes up less as she gets older.

Things seem to be getting worse instead of better for Jessica Simpson. Over the last few weeks she’s been embroiled in a weight gain scandal. As in, she had the nerve not to be skeletal. While she seemed to be doing her best to stay positive in the beginning, it appears that the stress is taking a toll on her. According to Radar, Jess had a bit of a meltdown during her concert last night. She was opening up for Rascal Flatts in Grand Rapids, and was struggling, upset, and a bit unprofessional through most of her set.

Jessica Simpson, who’s been getting flak for gaining weight, really does appear to have the weight of the world on her shoulders. Simpson had a near meltdown Thursday as she opened for Rascal Flatts in Grand Rapids Michigan. The singer fought back tears, forgot the words to lyrics and mumbled her way through a bizarre 38-minute set of songs.

Almost from the opening song of “These Boots are Made for Walking,” Simpson fought with her ear monitors, constantly trying to keep them in place, suggesting she was having difficulty hearing herself. At one point, she had her seven-piece band stop, then start over, during the up-tempo “Pray Out Loud.” After that, she forgot the lyrics to her single “Come on Over,” causing her to apologize to the audience.

Things got so bad that, while introducing her closing song, “Do You Know,” the singer said there have been times when she felt like walking off the stage — “like tonight.” At the end of the song, she thanked her band for “having her back.” And it looked as if she was wiping away tears as she walked off the stage.

So what caused Jessica’s meltdown? It probably didn’t help that boyfriend Tony Romo missed his flight to Grand Rapids.

Jessica’s record label said that she wasn’t feeling well and blew her voice out and that’s why she was upset during the show. A Grand Rapids radio station was having people who were in the audience call in and talk about the concert. One caller said she thought Simpson was drunk. Several noted that she kept drinking from a water bottle throughout the night. It could have been alcohol, but it could have just as easily been water – which would be explained by vocal troubles. But lots of the callers seemed to think Jessica was being judged too harshly.

Everyone can have an off night, but the flip side of that argument is that people pay a lot of money to go to concerts – and in tough economic times, that’s a big deal. I’d guess that a luxury like that is probably a rare occasion for most of the audience, so it makes sense people would be annoyed. Overall, it was unprofessional at worst, but understandable.

Madonna’s friends are incredibly worried about her after the singer told her assistant to get all the presents Guy Ritchie ever gave her so she can bury them. Apparently this signals a major meltdown: I call it moving on. Aren’t you supposed to set fire to it or something? Madge doesn’t really seem the sentimental sort, and I assumed she was just cleaning house. But her friends seem to think otherwise and are worried that she can barely function.

On the heels of a British report that Madonna has asked her assistant to gather all the items she received from Guy Ritchie so she can bury them, a source close to the Material Girl says that friends are worried Madonna is in “full meltdown mode.”

“In recent years she’s really relied on her Kabbalah advisors, but more for big decisions. She’s barely functioning without a consult at this point,” says the source.

What does this mean for the singer’s friendship with Yankee slugger Alex Rodriguez?

“Madonna’s going through some tough times, but she’s still planning a trip to Malawi when the divorce is finalized and her tour is over, and she still expects A-Rod to come on the trip with her,” says the source. “There’s very much a deep relationship there, even when she’s going through what she is now.”

I have a hard time imaging Madonna having any sentimentality or even feelings. I know she must because supposedly everyone does, but she’s so cold and hard that all I can do is think of her dancing around a bonfire cackling evilly to herself while she burns everything Guy ever gave her, sat on, looked at, or might have gotten his Guy germs on.

Clearly Madonna moved on from this relationship months ago and is already pretty deeply into A-Rod. Why are her people continuing to try to put out all these “Poor, helpless Madonna” rumors? Yeah she looks like a jerk compared to him, but I don’t think any garbage about how sad she is will help. It’s like if someone pointed at a slab of concrete and said, “See that chunk of cold hard stuff? It’s really sad because that rock over there doesn’t love it anymore.” And then you see that the concrete is snickering because you bought it. And it sorta looks like Madonna, except that it has more personality and warmth.

There’s another tell-all book about Britney Spears coming out, but this one isn’t written by her mother. This one is written by photographer Ian Halperin, and is titled Stalking Britney: Britney Under Seige. Do you think he’s trying to be a bit sensational?

Halperin claims that Britney tried to commit suicide four times after splitting from Kevin Federline, and claims her most recent, and most public, breakdown was not her first.

The pressures of her career — which began at 12 as one of the youngest cast members on The New Mickey Mouse Club — led to her deep insecurities. “At 15, she had a huge breakdown and had to return home to Louisiana,” he reveals. “She was very insecure and felt like she wasn’t pretty.” But rather than get help, Britney focused on her outward appearance: “She went on a huge diet.”

Today, Britney is on medication, but Halperin believes she’s far from recovered. “There’s no doubt, based on the last two years, that she is a highly unstable person,” he observes. “She’s on a temporary high right now, but she’s never really dealt with all the problems she had. I don’t think it’s possible to turn over a new leaf just like that.”

Halperin researched his book for 18months as a photographer of Britney, so I don’t think he has the real, inside story either. I think if you lined twenty people who were all involved with Britney’s care over the last two years you would probably get twenty different stories, none of which were entirely accurate. At least Lynne Spears’ book will be told with love, and probably the most embarrassing part of it for Britney will be some nude photos of her as a baby.

I also don’t think it takes a genius to suggest that Britney isn’t miraculously cured, but she seems happy and healthy and hopefully has a chance to develop a strong relationship with her children in the next few years.
