Taylor Swift & Taylor Lautner seen leaving hotel together in the morning

Taylor Swift & Taylor Lautner

Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner seem to really be dating! It’s not just some p.r. shenanigans. At least, it doesn’t seem to be. Swift, the 19-year-old country-pop star and Lautner, the 17-year-old Twilight hottie, were rumored to be an item shortly after they met this summer on the set of the film Valentine’s Day. Last night the Taylors attended a hockey game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center. They sat together and everything! A friend of Swift’s told OK! Magazine, “She loves how unaffected he is. She says he’s the best kisser ever!” Yeah… I miss being 19 years old and thinking every guy was the “best kisser ever!” Sigh. Anyway, the NYDN has some sources who saw the two kids entering a hotel… and then leaving the next morning. Gasp!

Things appear to be heating up between the two Taylors.

Taylor Swift and “Twilight hunk” Taylor Lautner were spotted at a Beverly Hills hotel last night where photographers reported they spent the night together, according to X17online.com. Earlier in the night, the new couple attended a hockey game at L.A.’s Staples Center.

“These two weren’t going to any great length to hide the fact that there were spending the night together,” photographers said. “They could have been a lot sneakier if they wanted to, and we spotted them leaving early this morning.”

Rumors that Taylor-squared are a couple have been swirling since Lautner was a surprise guest at Swift’s Fearless tour in Chicago earlier this month.

After the country singer performed her hit “Fifteen,” a video posted to YouTube shows Swift giving Lautner an extended embrace.

Swift, 19, and Lautner, 17, began their close relationship soon after filming a make-out scene for next year’s romantic comedy, “Valentine’s Day.”

Lautner recently told Access Hollywood that he was “crushing” on Swift, and Swift told Z-100 that she was “on Team Tay.”

[From The New York Daily News]

Adorable couple. Too cute for words, really. And they both seem so damn wholesome too, so I don’t really know if they’re having sex or if it’s just kissing or whatever. It’s not really my business, only I’ve been quietly counting down the days for Lautner to come of age. I will say this though – both of them seem younger than their ages. For Lautner, it might just be because he’s all of 17 years old, but I’ve known some pretty skeezy 17-year-old boys, so maybe he was just raised right. For Swift, she just seems like such a cutie. I adore her. I adore them together. So sweet. Please, kids. No sex tapes. I don’t want this wholesome fantasy to end.

Here’s Taylor Swift at Katy Perry’s birthday party on Friday. Images thanks to BauerGriffinOnline. Header photo is a screencap of the Taylors at the hockey game.

Shirtless Robert Pattinson in new extended New Moon trailer

There are plenty of shirtless boys and drama in the new extended trailer for New Moon, the second film in the Twilight saga. The three stars of the series, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner, and Kristen Stewart, premiered the extended trailer to screaming fans at the MTV VMAs last night. We’ve already seen some brief shirtless clips of both Robert Pattinson (Edward) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob) from the film as shown at Comic Con, along with a shirtless Lautner in the first trailer. Now we get to see much more of Jacob’s hot werewolf buddies from La Push and more of the characters who play the vampire elite, The Vulturi. Dakota Fanning is evil young Jane with glowing red eyes and too much makeup.

Mild spoilers for New Moon that you can figure out from watching the trailer
I’m definitely going to go see this movie, but I really disliked the part of New Moon where Edward just up and leaves Bella. (I’m labeling this a spoiler, but it’s pretty much in the trailer above.) Bella’s depression is kind of hard to deal with as a reader and I wanted her to realize what a jerk Edward was for not sticking by her instead of working so hard to contact him somehow. It will be an entertaining film, and it looks a little overwrought in this trailer, but that’s Twilight for you, and that’s part of the reason we love it. The car scenes with Alice look really cheesy and fake though, right?

New Moon is out in the US on November 20th and is sure to be a hit. Its predecessor Twilight has taken in $383 million so far.

VMA fashion & awards: Lady Gaga, Robert Pattinson & Taylor Lautner

fp_3597653_vma_redcarpet_ra
Oh, the Video Music Awards. Where bad fashion goes to die, where pop music goes to celebrate itself. I remember when the VMAs used to be edgy. I remember when they were a huge deal. Now it just seems so… corporate. Maybe it was always corporate, and I was just naïve back in the day. Note: CB is covering the Kanye West/Taylor Swift incident, in which Kanye made a rather spectacular ass out of himself. Anyhoodle, here’s a rundown of the nights biggest winners and losers, both from the actual awards, and from the fashion:

*Winner: Lady Gaga’s “Mistress Dark Feathers” ensemble. According to Us Weekly, it was “a black lace Jean Paul Gaultier dress with Dragon print silk underlay from Gaultier’s fall/winter ready to wear collection. She accessorized the look with a Keko Hainswheeler neck brace and Kiko jewelry.” Later, in the press room, Gaga was wearing some grey-silver puffy leotard that was not attractive.

fp_3596595_vma_redcarpet_ra
*Loser: Gerard Butler. He’s my boyfriend and everything, but he had no reason to be there, and he looked extremely grumpy. He needs to stop going to every event, you know? I love him, and I love seeing pictures of him, but I can only think that he was there to hit on the young 20-year-old reality stars. Or poor Taylor Swift, who had a rough enough night without Gerard Butler trying to put the moves on her.

2009 MTV Video Music Awards - Show
*Winners: Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart looking like they could eat each other up in every damn picture. The two of them, plus Taylor “Third Wheel” Lautner, were there to introduce a clip from New Moon. Poor (hot) Taylor. I bet he even had to go in the car with Pattz and Kristen, and they probably couldn’t keep their hands off one another. Kristen wore a really pretty beige-gold party dress, and her hair was super-cute. Sparkles is a mouth-breather, and he looked smug. Like “Yeah, I’m finally nailing Bella” smug.

wenn2572947
*Loser: Perez Hilton and his “demented gardener/proctologist” look. And for being Perez.

*Losers: Pink and Shakira wore the same black Balmain mini-dress. Maybe I could understand if the dress was really, really cute, but it’s totally plain. The real loser is the House of Balmain, who should have been better organized than to send the same dress out to two pop stars for the same event.

*Winner: Beyonce, for winning Video of the Year, for her cute red outfit, and for being so classy to Taylor Swift.

fp_3597380_vma_redcarpet_ra
*Loser: Jennifer Lopez, for whatever the hell she was wearing. She’s trying too hard, and it’s painful.

*Losers: All of the dumb, interchangeable MTV reality stars who all looked like hot death.

*Actual VMA winners:

Video of the Year: Beyonce, Single Ladies
Best New Artist: Lady Gaga, Poker Face
Best Hip-Hop Video: Eminem, We Made You
Best Male Video: T.I. featuring Rihanna, Live Your Life
Best Pop Video: Britney Spears, Womanizer
Best Rock Video: Green Day, 21 Guns
Best Female Video: Taylor Swift, You Belong With Me
Best Video (That Should Have Won a Moonman): Beastie Boys, Sabotage
Breakthrough Video: Matt and Kim, Lessons Learned
Best Art Direction: Lady Gaga, Paparazzi
Best Choreography: Beyonce, Single Ladies
Best Cinematography: Green Day, 21 Guns
Best Direction: Green Day, 21 Guns
Best Editing: Beyonce, Single Ladies
Best Special Effects: Lady Gaga, Paparazzi.

What can I say? Meh. Any award show that celebrates Eminem’s video “We Made You” as the best anything is a pretty crappy award show. Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” rocks though. I’m going to have that song stuck in my head all day.

Taylor Lautner in Teen Vogue: great body & a baby face

pp-03-taylor-l-pics

Everybody’s favorite werewolf BFF Taylor “Jacob” Lautner is the cover boy for October’s Teen Vogue. The photographs are gorgeous – he’s a really cute kid, and his body is insane (slideshow here). He’s still got that baby face, though, which quickly ends whatever naughty sexual fantasies I might have about him. The Teen Vogue site has an excerpt from the interview, but there are some other quotes floating around that aren’t included in the excerpt. Taylor talked about his career goals, saying: “I really look up to Denzel Washington as an actor. I’d love to do a film with him one day in the future. That would be my dream come true. And I love the action-drama films like Matt Damon and Brad Pitt do.” Here’s more from the interview:

According to Taylor, there is a very specific sort of girl who’s going to sign up for what’s become known to Twilight fans as Team Jacob. “If she likes having a really close friendship with a guy,” he begins, “being able to tell him anything, and then having that friendship slowly transform into something more….” The seventeen-year-old stops himself and laughs. “I find myself using the word transform a lot lately,” he explains, “because that’s what Jacob does.”

It’s not exactly a spoiler to say that Taylor’s character in November’s New Moon is going through some intense changes. As everyone who’s seen the movie’s trailer or read the books knows, Jacob Black is now a werewolf. And the changes that Taylor himself underwent in order to keep the part—as he says, “hitting the gym, hiring a personal trainer, eating the right foods, and eating a lot of them”—were equally evident. When that first trailer premiered at the MTV Movie Awards, the live (and apparently largely female) audience responded to a two-second shot of Taylor, shirtless, by screaming like they were on a roller coaster. Not that he’s about to let all that adulation go to his head.

“I think the fans would love anybody who played Jacob,” he says mildly, when the reception is mentioned. “I’m just lucky to be the one who got the chance.”

Taylor got into acting via a somewhat circuitous path. As a kid growing up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he started competing in a sport called Xtreme Martial Arts—which he describes as “almost like gymnastics, in that you do a routine, but there’s a lot of kicks and punches and flips”—and he found that he was pretty good; by the time he retired, at thirteen, he was a four-time world champ. It was his Hollywood-based karate coach (a onetime blue Power Ranger) who suggested that Taylor give show business a chance.

“At first,” he recalls, “I wasn’t interested, but he said I could stay at his house for a few weeks, meet with some agents, go on auditions. ” By the end of that month, Taylor says, “I liked it. Taking on roles that were the opposite of what I could be in real life? That’s still my favorite thing.”

Now Taylor lives with his family an hour outside Los Angeles, although the distance does little to dissuade the paparazzi. “There are twelve cars that camp outside my house,” he marvels. “You can’t ever really get used to it, because it’s not normal to have people snapping pictures of everything you do. You just have to try not to let it affect you.”

Tabloid attention and spurious rumors are the norm for the Twilight cast right now—Taylor and his costars are already hard at work on the third film, Eclipse. And he seems quite capable of taking it all in stride: Asked about his alleged early summer romance with Disney star Selena Gomez, he says, quite unperturbedly, “She’s a great girl.” Asked whether Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are indeed entangled in a torrid love triangle, he just laughs. “It’s crazy,” he admits, “but the fans help. They’re a big part of the motivation.”

As if on cue, a pair of wide-eyed young sisters approach his table, looking ecstatic. “We’re all Team Jacob in our house,” their mother says. Taylor does have a point when he insists that people are reacting, in part, to the character he plays—these two are each clutching one of author Stephenie Meyer’s dictionary-size tomes for him to autograph—but he’s also being too humble. The girls are definitely old enough to understand that Taylor is a rising star, not a teen werewolf, and they still look pretty starstruck.

[From Teen Vogue]

What does Taylor mean when he says “the fans help” in response to a Kristen Stewart-Robert Pattinson question? Hmm… is he saying their relationship is all in our heads? Doubtful. Although I do think Taylor has a little crush on Kristen, so maybe he doesn’t want to answer those Pattinson questions because he’s a bit heartbroken? Maybe. A few weeks ago, Entertainment Weekly put Kristen and Taylor on the cover looking very lovey-dovey, and in the interview Taylor seemed to be quite taken with her. For her part, Kristen said “I love that kid… I would do anything for him. I would kill for him, literally. We have that [best friend] relationship. It’s lamely cute.” EW also put up the video of Taylor and Kristen being interviewed, and it was clear he was trying to impress her and flirt with her. When he was showing off, he asked if she thought he was hardcore enough. To which Kristen replied, “I think you need a little more growing up to do. You need to grow into your cojones.” This poor kid. He seems like such a sweetheart. Ten bucks says that Kristen breaks his spirit, just like she did with Pattz.

Here’s Taylor in Teen Vogue.

Robert Pattinson is worried Kristen Stewart will hook-up w/ Taylor Lautner

entertainmentweeklynewmoon
There might be trouble in Twihard Paradise. By the way, I believe Twihard Paradise = a full minute sniffing the heavenly aroma coming out of Robert Pattinson’s mangy hair. But I digress. It seems that there might be something brewing between Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, who plays werewolf Jacob Black in the films. Star Magazine has more:

Just as things are heating up again between Kristen and Rob, could their costar Taylor Lautner throw a wrench into their romance?

“Taylor definitely has a crush on Kristen,” a source tells Star. “But she just treats him like a little brother.”

Still, Taylor, 17, has grown a lot since filming the first Twilight – literally and figuratively. The 26 lbs of muscle he added to play werewolf Jacob Black have given him new confidence with women. He recently romanced Emma Roberts and Taylor Swift on the set of Valentine’s Day and now he’s set his sights in Kristen.

They were inseparable at the Teen Choice Awards on Aug. 9, while Kristen hardly spoke to Rob. “Rob is really nervous that Kristen will fall for Taylor’s charms,” says a source.

Adds another: “He likes Taylor, but once they’re all up in Vancouver, he’s going to make it clear that Kristen is off the market.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, August 24 2009]

Would you like further evidence? Behold, this week’s Entertainment Weekly cover! Not only are Kristen and Taylor looking very cozy, in the interview Kristen admits her true feelings for him: “I love that kid… I would do anything for him. I would kill for him, literally.” Ruh-roh. EW has more:

New Moon, a far different beast than Twilight, is steeped in heartbreak, focusing on the recovery Bella (Stewart) undergoes after Edward (Pattinson) breaks her heart and her new feelings for her friend Jacob (Lautner). Pattinson couldn’t be happier with his downsized role: “It was a stress-free job for three months,” says the actor. “All the pressure was on Taylor.”

There were some minicontroversies surrounding the set – director Chris Weitz replaced Twilight helmer Catherine Hardwicke, Lautner had to publicly campaign to keep the role of Jacob, and actress Rachelle Lefevre was replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for the soon-to-be-shot third film in the series. Lautner ultimately secured the spot thanks in part to Stewart.

“It’s completely understandable why they wanted to make sure he was right,” says the actress. “He was so young, 16, so I got it. But I knew he had [to do] it. Just because of how I felt around him.”

And how did the Bella-Jacob best-friend chemistry play out on set? “We have that relationship,” she says. “It’s lamely cute.”

Taylor trained hard to bulk up for the role of the budding werewolf. “My body fat got so low that we actually needed to increase it a little bit,” he says. “My trainer would be like, ‘Go have a huge milk shake just so I can get a thousand calories into your body.’”

Stewart thinks the new film will be beefier, too: “[Making Twilight] was much more of a fight,” she says. “We needed to make something commercial but stay true to the book. We didn’t have enough money. It was all very impulsive, and that’s what I love about that movie…But I think New Moon is gonna be even better.”

[From Entertainment Weekly]

God knows I love riling up the Twihards (cough cough CB cough), but I don’t think this hook-up is going to happen. Kristen would rip that poor kid apart. Pattz has barely survived her, and he’s six years older than Taylor. Plus, there was this little interesting part – EW has a cute behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot, with Kristen and Taylor talking about how well they get along. Kristen is asked what’s the difference between Edward and Jacob, and she says “I smile more with Jacob.” Then Kristen and Taylor are talking about whether he’s hardcore enough, and she tells Taylor Lautner : “I think you need a little more growing up to do. You need to grow into your cojones.” Taylor: “Okay…. I’m not sure if that was a compliment.” Dude… that was not a compliment. Kristen really does think of him as a kid brother if she’s mocking his cojones.

And yet! The National Enquirer has yet another report about how Kristen is basically breaking Pattz’s soul. Apparently, “Pattinson got really depressed when he offered to whisk Kristen off on a romantic three-day vacation anywhere in the world before filming starts on the third “Twilight” flick, but she answered emphatically: NO!” Kristen’s reasoning? She thinks Pattz is “pressuring” her for a “serious relationship”. This girl is so f-cking hardcore. I bet she laughs at Pattz when he cries.

Kristen Stewart giggles when asked about chemistry with Robert Pattinson

fp_3311930_new_moon_fp4_072309

I have a confession to make – I finished reading New Moon last night. It took me a couple weeks, and at times I found the writing juvenile and annoying. I wanted to yell at Bella to sleep with Edward already, or at least make out with Jacob, and I get the fact that the vampire/werewolf angle is just a way to represent teenage sexuality, but it was too glaringly obvious and contrived. It wasn’t like I couldn’t put the book down, and I didn’t buy it myself – my husband brought it back from a trip for me. New Moon made me kind of ache for the intensity of first love, even as I rolled my eyes at how over the top it was. That said, I do want to find out what happens next and will probably read the next book in the series, Eclipse. I’ll also finally give in and rent Twilight soon, although I won’t bother to read it.

Hearing R-Pattz explain his character Edward in the video above, taken during a Comic-Con press conference yesrterday morning, I have to admit I’m excited to see finally see Twilight and the much-anticipated follow-up, New Moon, out this November. Pattinson has a lot of insight into his character, and he seems perfect to play Edward. I really get his appeal and started to get a little swoony over him as he talked about Edward.

The real story in the press conference at Comic-Con is that someone asked Stewart and Pattinson about their off-screen chemistry and Stewart got visibly annoyed about it and refused to even give a bland quote. This came, ironically, right after she assured the crowd that journalists “can ask me anything.”

At around 2:00 minutes into the video above, a journalist asks “please each of you tell me the one Twilight question you never want to answer again.” Pattinson quips “What’s it like kissing Taylor Lautner?” Lautner says he doesn’t want fans to ask him to growl any more, and that they can wait for the movie. A kind of high looking Stewart assures us “You can ask me anything you want.”

Then 3:00 minutes in a guy from FirstShowing.net, chimes in with “This question is for Kristen and Robert. You guys have great chemistry on film, romantically. Is there any chemistry off camera?” Kirsten rolls her eyes and mumbles something and then starts giggling and looking embarrassed when a moderator chimes in to say “We talked about that point, personal questions. So why don’t we ask the next question?”

I tend to agree with Kaiser’s assessment that there is some romance there, or else Stewart would have calmly answered the question with some lame statement about how they’re friends or got to know each other while working together. She could have said something like “I understand that we sell magazines, but at the end of the day we’re just doing our jobs. If people think there’s more there, then that means we did a good job.” Instead she looked shocked and then was giggling like a fool.

At the end of the press conference you can see Pattinson looking at Stewart for a moment across the table, kind of serious and concerned like “why didn’t you handle that better?” Life probably doesn’t exactly imitate art in this case, though, and I bet that Kaiser is also correct that Stewart isn’t pining for Pattinson. If he has something going on the side with his other co-star, Emilie de Ravin, she’s likely to be playing it cool without being clingy. I see Pattinson as a guy who could be semi-serious about the women he’s dating, but who is probably playing the field as you would expect from someone in his position. He may have some similarities with the mature lovelorn vampire he’s playing, but he’s not about to get all wrapped up in one woman, as elusive as Stewart might be.

Kristen Stewart is candid about Twilight “machine”

ppf-006003
When most blockbuster movie stars are asked about their films, they often go one of two routes: they go on about how great everything is without being really honest; or they would rather be identified as indie stars and get irritated when reporters pester them with questions about their more famous franchises. Kristen Stewart, the star of Twilight, is not one of those actresses. In an interview with MTV at Sundance, Kristen is very honest and candid about the good and the bad of the Twilight “machine.” She addresses questions raised about the new director, the first film’s instant success, and Taylor Lautner’s new buff body.

I’m really excited,” she beamed, happily offering some of her first public comments about the big-budget “Twilight” sequel since a number of controversies have simmered, boiled and then been resolved over the past few weeks.

Regardless of her excitement, however, the always-frank Stewart admitted that the film’s fast turnaround, higher visibility and directorial change still needs to serve as a caution to the “Twilight” crew. “It’s such a machine now. All of a sudden, this movie has become [something bigger],” she explained. “With all the expectations — usually, you make a movie and think, ‘If it touches people, great; if it doesn’t, then you move on to the next one, and no one’s personally affected by it.’ [But] everyone’s really sensitive with any changes right now.

“Everyone needs to be on the same page to make the same movie [as the original 'Twilight' was],” she said of the upcoming “New Moon” shoot. “Or else it will be a very disoriented project.”

One of the most dangerous changes in the eyes of many fans has been the swapping of directors, from Catherine Hardwicke to “The Golden Compass” director Chris Weitz. Stewart, however, is one of the few actors from the film who has actually met with Weitz, and she told us that her fears have been put to rest.

“Chris is — on top of him being a really sweet guy — he is entirely devoted,” she explained. “And he’s very clearly not doing the movie just because it’s the next big thing. He really likes it a lot.”

Another concern in Stewart’s mind over the past few weeks had been which actor will play the pivotal role of Jacob Black — and whether she and this mystery man would be able to establish the same sort of chemistry that she had with Robert Pattinson in “Twilight.” Now that Taylor Lautner has been re-cast in the role, however, she’s convinced that they can make it work.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Stewart said. “I’m so glad they didn’t have to find somebody else; we already had him! I didn’t understand all the deliberation on [whether to bring him back]. But now that it’s set, we can all rest.

“He’s really buff!” she exclaimed of Lautner, who’s packed on nearly 30 pounds of muscle so far to prepare for Jacob’s werewolf growth spurt. “He definitely is. It took him a lot of time.”

[from MTV]

Kristen strikes me as one of the most down-to-earth actresses in Hollywood. That phrase is thrown around a lot, but it really seems as if fame hasn’t gone to her head. A lot of Twilight fans were at first thrown off by her seeming apathy to the role in interviews, but she really did have to take back seat to her costar Robert Pattinson. She has also said that she didn’t know that Twilight would be as big of a hit as it became, and that amount of attention gets some getting used to.

It must be at least a little bit irritating for Kristen to be trying to promote her indie flick Adventureland at Sundance and have reporters asking her questions about Twilight, but she handles the situation with a lot of grace. She recognizes that Twilight is what has propelled her into the limelight, and she sounds honestly grateful. It also seems in the interview as if she, Taylor Lautner, and Robert Pattinson are all good friends, and have kept their heads on in spite of all the press – refreshing for young Hollywood.

Taylor Lautner will continue to play Jacob in Twilight franchise

wenn2194016
There have been rumors for some time that Taylor Lautner, who plays Jacob Black in the Twilight series, would be replaced by another actor for the second film, New Moon.  In the second film, he would play a werewolf – a part that requires sheer size as well as a different acting style than playing (in his words) a “happy-go-lucky” guy.  Lautner noted the difference between the character that he played in the first Twilight installment and the character that would be necessary for the second film:

Lautner told MTV News recently that, while he can’t automatically grow hair, he’s been bulking up in anticipation of continuing in the role.

“My job for Twilight was to bring Twilight Jacob to life—the friendly, happy-go-lucky little Jacob,” he said. ”My job for New Moon is completely different. I’ve been looking forward to that. I’ve been getting ready for it, and I can assure them I will follow through with that.”

[from E! Online]

Today, Stephanie Meyer, the author of the Twilight series, announced that Lautner would indeed continue to play Jacob, making many teenagers very, very happy.  Chris Weitz, the director of New Moon, writes that he always knew Lautner would be right for the part:

I’m very happy to announce that Taylor Lautner will be playing Jacob Black in New Moon and that he’s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit Entertainment, the producers, and Stephenie Meyer.

The characters in Stephenie’s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part. I think that fans of Twilight the book and the movie will be surprised by the Jacob Black that Taylor will bring to the screen in New Moon; and I’m looking forward to working with him and the rest of the cast in realizing the film.

[from StephanieMeyer.com]

That was a well-written letter Weitz’s personal assistant wrote for him.  The bottom line is, changing actors mid-stream in a series doesn’t bode well.  With the success of the books, studio execs must have anticipated that a second movie would be made, and should have taken into account the changes to his character.  But it doesn’t seem that the studio was all too worried about attention to detail.  Their hurry to make a buck may have also forced the original director to leave the series.

The speculation about Lautner’s casting change was reinforced by the fact that the director of Twilight, Catherine Hardwicke, is also not continuing on in the franchise.  Verified reasons for Hardwicke’s leaving have been few and far between, but because she cites “timing” as the reason, this probably means that Hardwicke wanted more pre-production while the studios were pushing for a quick turnaround with a 2009 release.

Both Chris Weitz and Taylor Lautner have challenges ahead of them, for different reasons.  But both are going to have to work hard to fulfil the fantasies of countless tweens.
