These are photos of Rihanna performing in Madrid last night, Saturday. She’s changed her hair again – dying the top part bright red, and it also look like she shaved the bottom half of her scalp. Now – I’ve long supported every woman’s right to do whatever they want with their hair and not having whatever hairstyle reflect some sort of knee-jerk “She looks like a lesbian” reaction. But at some point – probably when you’re sitting at the salon asking for this fugness – don’t you realize that your hairstyle just looks awful? It’s not even about feminity versus looking “butch”. This junk is just horrible.
Rihanna has the kind of face and the kind of vibe where she can pull off certain extreme looks. This is not one of them. Her face just looks weird now, doesn’t it? One thing I’ll give her – I think this haristyle is the new look, the new trend, at least for men. First Robert Pattinson went in and asked for “The Jason Priestley” and now Rihanna. What do you think of it?

Rihanna is a performer and it is my understanding that part of the way they express themselves on stage is visually, i.e. clothing/hair. It is perfectly reasonable for her to change her hair color and wear these crazy costumes. She is an entertainer after all, a la cher and madonna. I think it’s cool and I like her without or without her red hair. She looks really happy here so I’m guessing she won’t care either way if someone doesn’t like her new coif.

It is ugly AND trendy. They often go hand-in-hand. I was recently clothes shopping with a friend, and when we went into this one store I thought I’d stepped back into high school, and all the ugliest clothing from that time period. It was all there. The off-kilter belts, the tights, the acid wash, the off-the-shoulder, the neon, etc….. Some of these can be pulled off by some people (usually not those who choose to wear them, however), and some of them should never be attempted by anyone.

While I’m no fan of hers, I admire her self-confidence and commitment to pushing fashion boundaries. There is no way in hell I would voluntarily leave my house with a hair cut or color so high on the list of my most unflattering. So I give her props for that. And truly, I think she wore it well.
What I do dislike is how she has tattoos sprinkled here and there. That’s a form of self-expression that my mind is completely closed to.

First thing’s first: Grace Jones is The Hipness! One need only listen to ‘Warm Leatherette’ to be reminded of that.

All of that stuff she did with Goude (of the Vanessa Paradis in a bird cage ad) was fun and defiant and new. The hair, the power suits, the strange, robotic, intense and at times a touch menacing mannerisms–The Hipness. She didn’t seem to care about the people who were ragging on her looks–a lot of them were other blacks who saw her perpetuating the jungle bunny myth. She was Grace Jones, man: Supermodel! I don’t like Ri-Ri’s…alright, performing style, fashion or music, but even if it’s done in a cynical manner (not that I’m saying it is in this case), It’s nice when you see a black woman not getting into the ‘weave, weave everywhere, give the horses back their hair’ chase. Although she is bi-racial, so..whatever. She’s styled within an inch of her life, but at least it’s slightly different.

Rihanna is a very beautiful girl and her hair cuts before were good, i can’t see myself rocking this hair cut but if she wants to Kudos to her. I believe she could sing, she is a pretty caribbean gal and her style is amazing. Her style and music is very “in your face” and “this is me take it or leave it” and i love that about her because i feel the same way. Yes, many times when she dresses she shows off some skin and dresses exotic but who cares this life is way to short to be bored.
