Will Jenny McCarthy be the new Oprah?

The National Enquirer is reporting that Jenny McCarthy is about to get her own talkshow produced and heavily promoted by Oprah’s company, Harpo. It’s unclear whether the new show will be syndicated on network television as Oprah moves to her OWN network, or if it will join Oprah on OWN. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard this story, The Hollywood Reporter claimed in May, 2009, that McCarthy had already signed “a multi-year overall deal with Winfrey’s Harpo Prods. to develop projects on different platforms, including a syndicated talk show that the actress/author would host.” Jenny’s earnings will reportedly start at $3-5 million per year, with potentially more if the show is popular.

Jenny McCarthy is going to be the new Oprah!

At least that’s what Oprah believes. Jenny, a former “Playboy” model-turned-actress, has been handpicked by the queen of daytime TV to take over as the No. 1 talk-show host.

With her September 2011 last show growing closer, Oprah is putting all her influence and a boatload of money behind her effort to launch Jenny’s show.

“Oprah believes that Jenny is an A-list talk-show host – relatable, passionate and adept at drawing in people from all backgrounds. Best of all, she’s a natural comedian with a warm, funny delivery,” revealed an insider.

“Jenny is also a single mom whose public enthusiasm and dedication to her autistic son has impacted America’s growing population of struggling single parents, and this is a niche that no current talk-show host has…”

It has not yet been determined whether Jenny’s new show will air on the Oprah Winfrey Network, which Oprah plans to launch next year. Jenny’s starting salary is expected to be in the $3-5 million range for 26 shows plus a development deal,” and if ratings are as high as Oprah is expecting, Jenny’s salary will skyrocket,” adds the insider.

So will Jenny be the new Oprah? I guess it depends on if the public embraces her. Oprah progeny Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray and Dr. Oz have done very well for themselves and soon Oprah’s go-to designer, Nate Berkus, will have his own show. You can image that Jenny will be successful since she’s funny and warm without being a goody two-shoes. I like her and have found her entertaining and passionate in interviews. She does have a lot of controversial opinions about autism and has drawn ire from parents and the medical community for advocating unproven treatments. Oprah has also been called out for similarly promoting potential quackery on her show so Jenny’s unconventional medical advice isn’t likely to be an issue for her. Jenny has her detractors, though, and like Oprah she can be polarizing.

  5. Jack says:

don´t like her, she manipulated jim carrey to get 50 million $$$! i mean come on, they werent even married.. GOLD DIGGER..
she could never replace oprah, shes an airhead

  6. GatsbyGal says:

Her forehead is HUUUUUUGE, holy crap. Also, I saw those photos of her and that guy and my first thought was “Wait, she has a grown son?” Haha, burn.

I think she could totally be the next Oprah – she definitely could give Oprah a run for her money in the plastic surgery department.

  7. Fluffy Kitten Tail says:

That dude looks as dumb as a box of rocks.

Cannot stand her. The last thing I would watch is a talk show, and with her hosting, there is even less of a chance.

  8. Bot says:

She’s also drawn ire for her very public anti-vaccine stance, which is based on a completely debunked study. Given that California is dealing with a whooping cough epidemic right now due largely to poor vaccine uptake, I am furious that McCarthy is being given another forum.

  9. a says:

her rebound dude is… very…. HIGH

  10. Lara says:

Bot, that’s what I was thinking as well.

She didn’t just have “unconventional medical advice” like ‘stand on your left feet while breathing in through your left nostril to get rid of that cold’, no, she actively campaigned against vaccinations. Vaccinations that were responsible to eliminate/ keep to a minimum deadly childhood diseases. Yeah, I know, she later retracted saying she’s not against vaccines, just the amount and the timeline of vaccinations, but what’s the difference? It’s of no use to want to vaccinate a child at six years old when it has already died aged two.

  11. guesty says:

    who really cares.

  12. Adrien says:

Sorry Jenny, Dina Lohan is the white Oprah.

  13. Kelley says:

Looks like she has cheek implants … yuck !!

  14. Hautie says:

There is one thing that Jenny has been able to do, is sell her self.

To me she has always come off as a phony. The kind of girl who is always looking out for the person who will get her to the next level. I guess a user.

But LA is filled with thousands of these kind of people. She just got her game down and it has worked out for her.

I wonder what Jim Carrey will say about her in a couple of years. When he has had time to reflect upon their time together.

  15. Morgs says:

Used to like her. Now I just want to smack her.

  16. Lulu says:

    Love her!!!

And, as a step-mother to a child with Autism and an aunt to a nephew with Autism, I totally support her ideas regarding the disorder!

    Go Jenny!!!!!!!

  17. Lulu says:

P.S. Big Pharm sucks!!! They can take their endless vaccines and nonstop commercials on TV and stuff it!!

  18. Annie says:

For one thing, she is a horseface. Secondly, I too thought it was her son since she seemed to pick her younger male likeness. They look related right? Third, this broad is a big mouthed self-promoter so she should fill Oprah’s shoes nicely.

  19. Lucinda says:

NOooooooooooooooooo! She’s a whack job who had done more harm than good.

  20. Jover says:

No not even close; she is totally uninteresting and vapid and as other posters have said how many talk shows do we need where the same celebs are recyled to mostly plug their crap. I could be wrong, but I don’t see her as having any qualities that would draw and keep an audience.

  21. Jeri says:

I think she’d do well if she avoids the political/medical shit. She’s fun & funny to listen to.

OMG, I got she doesn’t do a “Holier Then Thou” act like Oprah.

  22. fashionfreak says:

not the next oprah, but perhaps the next tyra banks. somehow i don’t see her having stimulating conversation unless she makes every topic and conversation relate to her and her career

  23. di butler says:

For the record, docs say now her kid never had Autism. Plus, working off of a totally (1) debunked study to push kids away from vacines? How utterly stupid do you have to be? And, like most celebrities, her “political discussions” are somewhere on level with a HS Civics class. For the sloooow. Typical H’wood “group think” rounds out her knowledge. And surprisingly, there are still stupid women who watch that mindless dreck like Oprah and The View.
    Susan B. Anthony weeps.

  24. daisyfly says:

Can’t stand her; I hope her show never takes off. Oh, and that her son writes a tell-all about how “mommy” made him pretend he was sicker than he really was because it’ll “help keep us fed”.

  25. Raven says:

Thanks, Lulu. Most are very poorly read on the subject of vaccines and just spout the big pharma line.

Don’t know if I will watch her or not. I don’t watch a lot of talk shows.

  26. kate217 says:

Quick answer: HELL NO. She is ignorant and dangerous.

  27. MSMLNP says:

Yes, Raven, someone whose contribution to this debate is “Big Pharma Sucks” seems like one who would be well read on vaccines.

    Come on now.

  28. daisy says:

    no

  29. Kali says:

Yikes – I thought Oprah was smarter than this.

  30. Mia says:

I can think of no one less qualified to talk to women about real issues.

She made her modest career by getting implants and posing naked, exactly what Hugh Hefner’s third favorite girlfriend, Kendra of Girls Next Door, credited for her success. So Jenny’s got nothing to teach any real women out there that Hef’s third favorite gold digger couldn’t teach.

As a mother she’s been campaigning against the greatest saver of children of all times, vaccines. We know vaccines have virtually eliminated the problem of childhood disease that caused every woman to lose or nearly lose at least one child for all of human history.

And this mother campaigns against the greatest thing to happen to mothers and children of all time because of a link that no one has yet to prove?

And as an actress, well, I cannot think of anything she’s done a stellar job in.

So she’s mediocre in all ways, and gloms off a more successful star to remain relevant until that too falls apart?

Career, motherhood, relationships and body image are all massive fails for her. So it had better be a comedy show.

She’s such a mess, why doesn’t she do “reality” t.v. That’s more her level.

  31. Pia says:

Mia, I could not agree with you more. I was incensed when Oprah gave her a forum to spread her dangerous misinformation. To then give her an actual show? It’s ridiculous. By promoting refusal of vaccinations, she puts an entire population at risk. Why give this wack job any more publicity?
