Kelly Osbourne says that Hollywood girls now see her as competition

Kelly Osbourne just can’t escape the nasty fighting streak she learned from her mother. I get that LA can be competitive, but I’m sure that Kelly and Sharon make it so much worse by picking fights with people. In a recent interview, Kelly claimed that her dramatic weight loss has lost her some acquaintances who no longer say hello to her. Maybe they just don’t recognize her.

The 25-year-old star admits she is still getting used to her new shape and feels shocked every time she sees a picture of herself.

“My weight? People don’t realise it’s as shocking to me as it is to them. When they open up a magazine and they see it … I’m still getting used to seeing me like this and the changes and the way that … it’s weird!” she said.

“Girls in Hollywood don’t like you because you become competition. They have started to get much more nasty. You think, ‘Usually you say hi and now you don’t.’ ”

Kelly — who split from fiance Luke Worrall earlier this year following rumors he had cheated on her — is yet to start dating other men because she is too “strong willed” for a boyfriend at present.

“I haven’t really been dating at all. I look at all these boys in Hollywood … I don’t think I have a type. I think that I am more attracted to genuineness and confidence,” she said.

“Men don’t like women who are more strong willed than them and I am. I don’t expect to find somebody until I’m older because no one wants a loud mouth for a girlfriend.”

[From Showbizspy]

We get it, Kelly, you’re so hot now that all the women hate you and all the men want you, but they’re just not good enough and they can’t handle a woman like you anyway. I’m sure your attitude has nothing to do with it.

Kelly recently tweeted that she was ordered to cover up her tattoos at a gym in Japan before she was allowed to work out. She wrote “just went to the gym where i was told i was not allowed in unless i coverd my tattoos with flesh colored tape it was sooooo weird!” At the Y where I used to work out in the states the instructors officially had to cover up their tattoos, but it wasn’t enforced. That’s so strange that a Japanese gym would make patrons cover their tattoos! Maybe it was a particularly chi-chi gym that Kelly went to and is not necessarily the way most gyms are in Japan.

Kelly is getting most of her tattoos removed, and has admitted that some of them were mistakes. She called them her way of “self harming” and said “I was miserable and I just went and got all these tattoos and I don’t know why… As you get older, you realize that you don’t want to be defined by your tattoos, because that’s not the type of person that I am.”

the japanese in general have a thing against tattoos. it’s becoming more accepted with the younger generation, but for a long time it was associated with mobsters- so the gym thing doesn’t surprise

  2. Marjalane says:

Well…she looks good on the outside.

  3. dj says:

Actually, her comments make sense to me. Women are so competitive and she was thought of before as non-comp. re: men. Women in Hollywood (seem to be) all about appearances (i.e., plastic surgery, coloring their hair, botox, collagen,) and now there is a new swan in town. I am happy that she is feeling attractive now and hope she remains genuine and grounded.

  4. RobN says:

Her face is awful and she doesn’t actually DO anything, but yeah, ok, everybody’s jealous.

  5. Kim says:

She lost 20 pds in body weight but sadly gained 100 in her newly inflated ego =( Saldy she seems to think she is now “all that” because she lost A LITTLE weight. Beauty isnt about how thin you are and i would have thought her of all people would know this but she turned out to be yet another vapid Hollywood wanna be thin/popular girl with a bad personality.

  6. Franny says:

I think she looks great. I’m happy that she has updated her grungy, punky “im pissed at everyone” look to something more sophisticated, but still has kept her own look. Now its just time for an attitude change!

  7. latvian lady says:

She doesn’t have a flattering hairline. Should keep that in mind when styling her hair.

  8. jinni says:

Yeah, for a long time tattoos were associated with Yakuza (Japanese mob). I wonder how stars like Angie and Johnny are affected by this cultural difference?

  9. gabs says:

Shes right about competition between women in hollywood..but..what does she DO??? what is she competing FOR??? I don’t get it. If she doesnt like it, she can leave hollywood. To be nice, she looks very thin and pretty in those pics

  10. michael says:

    competition for what?
a pie eating contest?… or perhaps nastiest hair color?

  11. Persistent Cat says:

Oh Kelly, they don’t like you because of you, not because of your weight loss.

Why do women always have to resort to “they’re just jealous” or that women are always threatened by each other? Can’t they not like her because she’s an awful human being? Men hate each other all the time but it’s never attributed to “men are threatened by other men,” etc.

Think of bands. Female bands are always watched and criticized because of female “squabbles” and that women “can’t get along with each other.” There are so many more male bands and so many have broken up because the members despised each other with a passion. But do the men ever get called out for immature behaviour? Never. The Police reunited. Was anyone on diva watch? But the Spice Girls reunite (I know, not the same musical leagues but hear me out) and that’s all anyone could watch for.

  12. L says:

Yea, the japanese thing is pretty typical. They won’t let you into the onsen’s (hot springs) if you have tattoos-although usually if you are american and they aren’t huge they let it slide. If it’s a more chi-chi place, it’s actually MORE likely that they’d ask her to cover them.

  13. Katie says:

She looks great, but she’s not especially pretty, and I don’t believe she’s ever give an indication of much talent, so I doubt young Hollywood is shaking in their boots.

  14. Rachel says:

Competition for WHAT? Maybe I’m out of it but I don’t think she actually DOES anything.

  15. K-MAC says:

I love it when fat girls get skinny their “inner bitch” comes out. Rock on Ms. Osbourne!!! Now, wait until you get a few wrinkles that is when the competition gets fierce. 🙂

  16. Wanda says:

In general, she seems to be a happier more confident person. I don’t know. I see that as a good thing.

  17. Laura says:

She wants to be an actress now… of course. I’m so sick of talentless celebuspawn trying to “act” or “sing”

  18. JennaBell says:

Her body looks amazing and I loved her on DWTS. On the other hand, she does not have a pretty face and her already large head (literally) looks bigger. It has always reminded me of a bulldog head.

  19. Maddie says:

Common people women is Hollywood are so jealous of each other either in looks, movie roles or who getting in to what clubs, period.

So yes I can see where she is coming from, do we not forget the whole Paris not getting into some club and crying about it in the corner, and then the pazzi asking Lohan about it the next night.

Young stars giving back handed compliments to the actresses that did get the part that THEY were also called back for.

We all faced it in high school when the new girl moved in and all the guys tried to get with her.

  20. Jeri says:

If she can’t maintain her current weight over the long haul some of her words may come back to haunt her.

I hope she is enjoing herself, we all deserve some glee!

  21. Bella Mosley says:

I think she looks terrific and everytime I have seen her on an interview or reporting or talking about getting help with drugs, she has handled herself with grace and intelligence.
The jealousy thing is real among women. I believe I detect a bit here as well. . . . . And next come the denials and the catty remarks. . . .

  22. Eileen says:

Eh, she’s young, lookin great and outspoken….I say let her have her moment in the sun. I can totally see how a woman getting a huge makeover with weight-loss and appearance would loose friends. Shoot even that lady with the reality show Ruby has said just loosing the weight she did-women started being bitchy and she still has a long way to go. Many women latch on to other women who they perceive as bigger or have more problems to elevate themselves. Then if the friend gets success or looses weight it brings out their own issues and feeling like a failure, instead of being the better one…in their mind.

  23. RHONYC says:

that last pic is looks like kelly’s doin’ her best ‘anna paquin’ impersonation. lol 🙂

    http://www.thefashionpolice.net/2010/01/anna-paquin-in-a-little-black-dress.html

  24. Mia says:

I get what she is saying. I don’t think she was being egotistical at all.

  25. devilgirl says:

    Suuuure, everyone is jealous!

  26. Captaine says:

She looks like Quagmire from Family guy now.

  27. Seer says:

Compared to how she used to look, she looks 10 times better! She looks softer, prettier, and more femenine.

  28. blinditemreader says:

I think she looks unnatural at this weight and it shows in her head/face not matching her body. I don’t think that she should try to maintain this waify size; it doesn’t suit her frame.

  29. Kitten says:

I think she looks great but I do think this is an unnatural weight for her. I think maybe another 5 lbs or so would be the right fit. She’ll probably gain a few and settle into a comfortable weight.

  30. Mari says:

Well, she used “you” as in speaking of a collective, as in what herself and others have experienced, as in it’s an obvious hollywood culture thing. So, I don’t take that as being egotistical.
So long as she likes herself no matter what size she is…

  31. LeManda says:

As woman who lots 75lbs I understand exactly what she is saying!

  32. Jen says:

Maybe they don’t like her — or her opinions on Fashion Police with Joan Rivers. Talk about a group of mean-spirited, catty women.

  33. michkabibbles says:

i can see what she’s saying. in my weight loss attempts over the years, i always had certain friends that tried to sabatoge me. and once i finally lost the weight and was really happy, those were the friends that stopped talking to me.
as much as i agree with persistant cat re: the stereotypes of how women treat each other, the fact is it does happen that way. and i imagine that it happens much more often in image-centered hollywood.

  34. lu says:

    @K-MAC
    Her inner bitch, hilarious. 😀

  35. ! says:

It’s sad that everyone in Hollywood only gives her attention now because she’s thin and blond, and she’s not calling them out on it. What a sellout. I for one would be pissed.

  36. BReed says:

Kelly isn’t a “beauty” but she is very cute and vivacious. I don’t like the blonde hair very much..I think her brunette natural color is much better looking on her. Like her Mother, I think we will probably see Kelly go up and down with her weight. That being said, I am glad she has matured and outgrown the hot mess she was when “The Osbournes” was on the air.
Glad she is going to lose the tattoos.

  37. Feebee says:

I’m also wondering competition for what?

  38. Shi-gatsu says:

    find you a competition?

    Yeah … sure….mmmhmmmm….

  39. tripmom says:

I don’t take any offense to anything she said. I thought her comment about not having a boyfriend because she’s a loudmouth was actually kind of cute and self depricating. Clearly from the comments here, she’s right. Women ARE catty & jealous. Lighten up.

  40. Raven says:

She may have more than weight loss to contend with. Her weight loss was due to hyperthyroidism, which, if left untreated, can be dangerous.

    http://thyroid.about.com/od/hyperthyroidismgraves/a/kellyosbourne.htm

  41. hanh says:

Ugh. That haircolor looks AWFUL on her. Totally washes her out. She needs a better color.

  42. Crash2GO2 says:

@Raven: Thanks for the link. And according to the link, she refuses treatment for it because she doesn’t want to gain the weight back. But when I read the dangers of untreated hyperthyroidism, she is headed for disaster. That’s not smart Kelly!! Maybe when it starts effecting her looks (hair falling out, eyes bulging etc), she will rethink. If it doesn’t kill her first.

  43. Liana says:

I totally see where she’s coming from and I don’t think she was being egotistical. I kind of feel like she was speaking generally. A lot of those H-wood girls are your friend when you’re the ugly duckling, but when you emerge slightly more swan-ish, suddenly THEY seem to think you’re competition for roles, for men, for attention, and they start blowing you off or being bitchy to you. I’ve been there. I was a rather “average” young teenager and was friends with everyone. But once I grew into my looks and became a bit pretty (not bombshell pretty, mind you), those same girls started talking shit about be and blowing me off. As for men, I don’t think she was saying that all the men want her, she actually said that not many men want her because she has a big mouth.

  44. Bodhi says:

As you get older, you realize that you don’t want to be defined by your tattoos, because that’s not the type of person that I am.”

You only become defined by your tattoos (piercings, hair color, fashion style, whatever) if you LET people define by your tattoos (or whatever). Get them, don’t get them, have them, have them removed, whatever floats your boat, but don’t blame tattoo for your own body issues. /end rant

Ok, anyway, maybe she should just leave Hollywood then…

  45. Shannon says:

This girl was big her whole life, until this dramatic weight loss. It will be a struggle for her to maintain this weight and I have a feeling she’ll yoyo quite a bit. I believe that her “natural healthy weight” is higher than her current weight, and she won’t accept that. Hating yourself is just one step on the path of having a disordered relationship with food and body image. I really hope she knows it’s ok if she gains a few pounds, and that it wouldn’t mean she has somehow failed. Because if she gets into that mindset, her weight will just fluctuate more and that’s really hard on a body.

  46. wunderkindt says:

In the black dress pics, she has a Grace Kelly vibe.

  47. aenflex says:

she looks beautiful. i hope she feels it.

  48. Mistral says:

She’s a cute girl, but I doubt that everyone suddenly hates her because she’s lost weight.

  49. Denise says:

I like her. Brits speak their minds, it’s not just her family (though her mum is a bit more confrontational than most). But I think Kelly is honest without being aggressive. Whoever commented that her face is ‘awful? Please. I’m very happy for her, she looks great. And no doubt she’s being treated differently now, girls in general aren’t comfortable when the fat friend comes into her own.

  50. Rico Suave says:

She still has a blockhead and about three extra jaws.

  51. Jennifer says:

    She’s still a skank..just a skinny one. Big deal.

  52. burnbabyburn says:

I hate her smile. Always open mouth/open teeth. She probably thinks it looks cute, but it just makes her look really insincere.

  53. Rosanna says:

Poor Kelly always finds a way to whine… when she was overweight, she was “discriminated against” because she was fat, now it’s because she’s too skinny and “competition”. Some people just can’t see the positive.

  54. nickynoneck says:

she should get into mma she looks like she can take a punch with that jaw .

  55. Nessa says:

In Japan tattoos are still very much tied to gangs and the underworld. The only people who really have them are yakuza and their affiliates. I’m sure the gym staff was very polite, and just didn’t want her tattoos to disquiet the other patrons.

  56. Newyorking says:

Competition FOR WHAT??? There are so many hot bods in Hollywood, and the hot bods have a good face to go with it. And they have a career. WTH is this woman even employed? I saw her on Fashion Police yesterday, and could not stand her. I mean, her commenting on fashion? She hosted a season of Britian’s Project Runway – really, she has no right to comment in fashion – she should look in the mirror first.

  57. Allestra says:

As an ex-pat living in Japan I can tell you that she is not being discrimminated against; being asked to cover her tattoos. They do it as it was and has been a symbol of the Yakuza, the Japanese, for the past 500 years. Until the past decade, patrons were unable to enter any public establishment if they had a visible tattoo. That is why the Yakuza’s tattoos are called sleeves or coats. Their line of tattoos actually end where their clothing normally does (leaving an untattooed strip from the neck down to the navel, from the knees down to the ankles and the upper wrists to the hands). Even now, most public baths (onsen) and sports clubs deny entry to those with any sort of inkingo n their bodies, although most are becoming more lenient in allowing patrons with casual inking entry.
Tattoos are not considered art, here; they’re considered a symbol of social level and ostricization.
    Peace!

  58. ylg says:

    To #10 Michael;
You made me spit tea on myself from laughing at your post. Pie eating contest. I’m still laughing. Good one.

  59. Shawna says:

Her comments didn’t surprise or offend me. I daresay she’s being honest and accurate at the same time. Good luck, Kelly.

  60. bubbles says:

which just proves that her inflated head is filled with nothing but air.

  61. mslewis says:

So, is she an “actress” now? Does she have a movie in the works?

I seriously doubt anybody in Southern California is jealous of her. There are far too many people with “hot bodies” and she is now just one of the crowd.

  62. molly says:

I’ve never understood the nasty comments Kelly gets. She seems very honest and real, I’ve always liked her, she seems like my silly little sister or something. I think she looks beautiful at any weight, I just hope she’s healthy.

  63. Maxilius says:

Being tattooed and having been to Japan twice, it’s not unusual at all. You’re not allowed in pools or bath houses ( yes, even in your hotel ) if you have visible tattoos.

Japan likes to maintain a tidy image and tattoos are still regarded as deviant and gang related by “official” standards.

That being said, LOTS of Japanese have tattoos, so it’s a losing battle, but one I can respect all the same.

  64. K says:

The writer of this article needs to brush up on reading comprehension skills. She is CLEARLY not stating that she thinks all woman are jealous of her nor did she state that all men want her. It was a statment about her having some issues adjusting to her new body and her judgemental friends have difficulty adjusting to the new body as well. I agree with a previous poster, she came across as very gracious and even self deprecating. She may not be an actress, but I have been rooting for her since her kooky beginnings on the Osbornes. So glad she is finally getting on a healthier path. I am also a former chubby ugly duckling and have also experienced the things she speaks about. Looking back, I had a lot of friends who kept me around because I was “the ugly one” who made them look even better. I can’t describe the pain that comes from that experience, but you do come out a stronger person. Then, I had the audacity to be a late bloomer and gain a ton of self confidence. How dare I!The confidence didn’t even come from the newer more attractive appearance. The ladies and gents on the board would do well taking a few empathy lessons.

  65. She looks great and attributes this recent weight loss to exercise and eating right- no mention of her thyroid- hopefully she is taking care of that too!

  66. Kate says:

I lost a great deal of weight a few years back, after having spent years as an obese young woman. I now do personal training part-time and teach aerobic-dance classes.

Yet, I still often think of my self as that heavy girl. It has been difficult for me to consider myself “hot”, though I guess I have my moments, and my man certainly makes me feel sexy and beautiful.

However, it shocked me that some my female friends changed in attitude toward me. It made me question many things; whether I had changed in personality, whether they now considered me a threat, and whether they were ever really friends to me.

My (then) best friend of over 10 years even told me, when drunk, that I “looked better fat” and admitted that she “didn’t like being the fat friend now” (she’s a size 4/6).

Weight loss has many unexpected results.

  67. la chica says:

i can’t imagine anyone would be jealous of looking like a bobble-head.

  68. chasingadalia says:

Can I just point out that it’s amazing she’s not more screwed up given her parentage?

And that she looks damn good in that black dress?

    Okay, now I’m done.

  69. jayson says:

Her only Hollywood competiton is Rumer Willis. Thats as good as it gets “lollipop”

  70. Sophie says:

You know, I get what’s she’s saying. When I lost a lot of weight (100 lbs), people acted differently around me — women, specifically. No, I’m not saying they were jealous, because God knows they weren’t. But suddenly, I wasn’t “the fat one” of the group anymore and somehow the whole dynamic of the group was off. Or maybe I just need better friends.

  71. Ji says:

Sorry! Kelly is very FUGLY and if it were not for her daddy she would be working at walmart.

  72. a says:

    that’s a FINE black dress.

  73. Shay says:

Everyone makes comments about Rumer Willis’ weird head? As far as I’m concerned, Kelly Osbourne’s head/face looks like someone socked her a leaden punch.
Her attitude isn’t anything to get excited over and as for her being ‘competition?’ Puhleaze…she gets her mother to use her muscle to get her jobs. That’s all. Hollywood is a tight knit community. Uber nepotism, and no, it’s not about her being Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter, it’s about her mother being the ruthless cow of an agent that she is and always was. Ozzy Osbourne has a career because of Sharon. If it wasn’t for Sharon, there wouldn’t be an Ozzy Osbourne.

  74. butterphly says:

that face is too fat for her body….
aaaarrrgggg why do i even care…
    *headshake*

  75. ChillDivine says:

    Women ARE catty & jealous.

Speak for yourself! Maybe some are – certainly some comments on this thread seem sadly to attest to that, but there are plenty of mature, well-adjusted women out there that don’t see other women as competition, much less give a monkey’s what those other women weigh or look like. Please don’t tar us all with the same brush.

  76. lita says:

    Bitch, please

  77. Sandy says:

WOULDN”T BE FAMOUS IF IT WEREN”T FOR YOUR DAD.
    Geez. You tired? I’m tired.

  78. cprincess says:

I think she actually kinda cool and shes right about the tattoo’s-I did one when I was 17 on the back of my shoulder-a butterfly and I forget its there until someone comments on it..
I believe its wrong -its sort of like tattooing your soul and I always tell people that I regret having done it but i was young and stupid.
I cannot understand whty these girls cover themselves in them-shes right-it is kind of like self harming.

  79. Knotstu says:

Every time I see you, something happens to me, like a chain reaction – between you and me, my heart starts missing a beat, my heart starts missing a beat. Every time.

    They are cool.
    And so are you!

  80. padiddle says:

According to the about.com article it was from 2006 – so I doubt hyperthyroidism is the cause of her recent weight loss. Besides, I think she lost a lot more than 30 lbs, as the article states.

  81. fizXgirl314 says:

biggest… sellout… ever… It’s one thing to lose weight (I did it when I was much younger) but I deliberately stayed down to earth and true to myself… this chick is a totally different person… sad!

  82. The Bobster says:

#26, Quagmire!!! That’s it!! I knew she looked like some cartoon character but I couldn’t place it.

  83. Roni says:

I don’t see why everyone is making such a big deal about her comment. Hollywood is full of competition. So i do believe some girls out there can be jealous of her. Especially those who have maybe tried to lose weight but not put in the effort she did to lose it. So why put her down for speaking the truth. I think she looks great and i love her spunky attitude. I don’t get why people take everything a celeb says so harsh! LOL

  84. CB Rawks says:

    Still a dog.

  85. suedechik79 says:

apparently most of the commenters arent attractive women, cause what kellys saying is totally true.

  86. Moops says:

Yes, it’s true that some women treat each other differently when they are seen as competition. I’ve seen it first-hand myself, but in the opposite direction: I went through a relatively quick weight gain, and noticed that a few girls were SO much nicer to me when I was 30 lbs heavier and no longer deemed “hot.”

That being said, Kelly seems to be going through a smug, semi-delusional period that a LOT of women go through when they drop a ton of weight: they become completely boring and self-obsessed, talk about food/exercise all the time, and think that everyone either wants them or is jealous of them. For example, my friend’s mom dropped 100 lbs, stopped caring about anything but her own appearance for a while, and then had the gall to accuse her daughter of being jealous of her because her boyfriend wanted the MOM now instead of the daughter! (Once my friend stopped steaming and her boyfriend stopped throwing up, they had a good laugh about it.) Give Kelly another 6 months to get accustomed to her new look, and she’ll calm down a bit.

  87. Mary Barnard says:

We would also like to express that most individuals who find themselves devoid of health insurance usually are students, self-employed and those that are jobless. More than half of those uninsured are really under the age of Thirty five. They do not sense they are in need of health insurance as they are young plus healthy. The income is typically spent on homes, food, in addition to entertainment. Most people that do go to work either full or not professional are not given insurance through their work so they proceed without with the rising tariff of health insurance in america. Thanks for the suggestions you share through your blog.

  88. Someone I m‚tier with visits your orientation oftentimes and recommended it to me to be familiar with also.
