Nicole Kidman says she doesn’t have addictions, but love is her “fatal flaw”

Nicole Kidman usually gives very careful and controlled interviews in which she inevitably slips and reveals the cracks in her marriage. Or maybe she plans those little telling statements, letting out just enough information to let us know that she’s having trouble without making her comments seem deliberate.

Last October she made a very strange comment to Interview Magazine that she doesn’t ever say she’s happy in her marriage because “you never know where something is going” and that “People’s lives together are complicated and beautiful and that’s what they should stay.”

In an interview with Vogue, in which her tiny pregnant belly pokes out behind a couture dress on the cover, Kidman says that she and her husband of two years, country singer Keith Urban, were “two lonely people” who “fell into each other.” She also says in a roundabout way that she’s addicted to love. It doesn’t seem the wisest choice of words for a woman whose husband had a stint in rehab right after they got married:

On finding Keith after her marriage to Tom: “Keith and I, we’re more like, ‘Hey’ [she shrugs and smiles]. We just gently, gently sort of fell into each other. We were just two lonely people who went, ‘Ah, there you are.’ I’m so committed to this relationship, and so is he. I don’t have addiction problems, but love is a very powerful force in my life. It’s my fatal flaw and my virtue.”

Kidman is thought to be due to have her first baby in July. She talked about how overwhelming it was to see the ultrasound and realize that there was a new life growing inside her:

On the new baby: “When I first saw the baby on the ultrasound, I started crying. I didn’t think I’d get to experience that in my lifetime. I like the unpredictable nature of it. To feel life growing with you is something very, very special, and I’m going to embrace that completely. I don’t believe in flittering around the edges of things. You’re either going to walk through life and experience it fully or you’re going to be a voyeur. And I’m not a voyeur.”

She often sounds full of shit to me and her statements are so contrived, but I hope that her baby is healthy and that she’s happy with Keith. Kidman said that she’s been relaxing at their farm in Tennesse and that she’s enjoying tending a vegetable garden for the first time in her life. Her epic film with Hugh Jackman, Australia, is due to be released in November of this year.

Nicole and Keith are shown at the Academy of Country Music Awards on 5/18/08, thanks to WENN. Other images are from the photo spread shot by Annie Leibovitz for Vogue. You can see a video of the shoot on Style.com.

  1. I find her entire pregnancy to be strange. I don’t want to go as far as to say she’s faking it but I will say that I had an easier time believing Katie Holmes gave birth to Suri when she did.

  2. Umm, you may not have “traditional” addiction problems, but voluntarily shooting poison into your face isn’t exactly normal human behavior.

Oh, and the lips, and the boobs, and the nosejobs…but I digress.

  3. Don’t want to be hard on her but she amuses me a lot. She is more suited to scientology because it is crazy and her comments seem like those of a typical scientologist. (I love Tom Cruise all the same:P ). She told Oprah that she loves sitting by the grave site. Now she is growing vegetables. I have never thought she loved Urban but they suit each other, they are both troubled souls. He choices of boyfriends after her divorce like Lenny Kravitz. Her living far away from her kids, which woman chooses that?

If she was married to Tom Cruise, no one would believe she was pregnant. I wonder how big that baby will be. Over all she is very weird, in a puzzling way. She’s like a phantom, her smile never reaches her eyes. But she seems content on the whole.

  4. The silly “fake” pregnancy rumors should should die down quickly now since the interviewer actually patted Nicole’s stomach. And it was definitely not fake padding. Why anyone would think that anyway is beyond ridiculous.

  5. Yeah, love is her fatal flaw because she has loved some of the biggest losers out there- Tommy Boy and Keith “I never look like I have bathed” Urban. Since she has hooked up with Urban, she has become increasingly weird looking and acting!

  6. Kidman does have an addiction, it’s called work. Funny how she didn’t mention the movie she’s doing in London just after the baby comes when she said that she couldn’t imagine thinking about future projects. Just more “I’m such a loving mother” PR crap. She’s embracing being pregnant, but is she going to embrace being a mother to a baby that needs her? I don’t think her lack of a relationship with her 2 older kids is entirely Scientology/Cruise related. Since getting a divorce, she’s made almost double the amount of movies that Cruise has made. Even during their marriage, she made almost double the amount of movies Cruise made. So yeah Nicole, you do have an addiction. It’s called being a workaholic.

  7. Kaiser/ Hippacrat:

Yikes. That pic at the top is scary. Nicole is starting to resemble The Joker.

I used to big on Team Nicole, but she’s pissed away the goodwill big time. Her “marriage” reeks of sham, her face is totally frozen, her “pregnancy” is sketchy, and she hasn’t made a good movie in six years, or taken on a role that was age-appropriate in a decade.

Team Antonia, all the way. (Her sis, BTW)

  8. I wouldn’t blame Keith Urban for Kidman’s issues. She was having some serious issues long before he ever came into her life. She went from one guy to another before she got a hold of Urban.

  9. I don’t see how you date and marry someone in the throes of addiction when you have children.

There was a moment post-divorce when I could have liked her but it’s faded just like the lines on her once beautiful face.

  10. I think she has an addiction and it is physical fitness. I worry that the baby is starved and underweight. I do query also about why she has limited contact with her other children? I think she is blissfully happy but I agree, what will she do when the baby is born? Will she be a Julia Roberts? Or will she continue working? I hope she steps out of the limelight and just enjoys being a mother. I think people will respect her more.

  11. Her stomach seems TINY for a woman who’s due to give birth in a month. I was colossal by this point in both my pregnancies …

  12. Very tall women show pregancy different because they have more room. My mom is tall and barely showed. I am 5′3″ and ballooned out like crazy

  13. In my unprofessional opinion,,your stomach won’t get REAL big when giving birth to a baby forehead.

  14. Compared to some of the other fucked up bitches who are celebrities, nicole is normal. Why do people focus so much on her doing botox injections, it is the norm for many male and female celebrities and nicole can’t be the only one whom seems to have an “addiction” to botox. Vanessa williams once admitted in an interview about how much she loves botox.

  15. slightly off topic but did anyone ever leak the reason for the very sudden split up of her ant Tom? She truly seemed shocked and upset and please dont start with the gay tom reasons… I have always been curious of this quasi secret!!! Anyone? Anyone???

  16. “I don’t have an addiction, but… love is my fatal flaw.” What a brave admission!

What makes it worse is that I don’t think the magazine is trying to smooth out her quotes, I think she is really trying to convince herself that her life is like some celebrity puff piece.

She is Blanche DuBois come to life, trying to construct a fantasy life for herself, while terrified of aging.

  18. Oh, Kevin, Kevin. that was a knee slapper! Ouch. What I don’t get is that people go on & on about how beautiful she is. Who are these people? What must they look like? What must the people in their family look like? EVERYTHING about her is fake & a big lie. I think she looks hideous. That huge forehead negates being a beauty even if the rest of your face is nice. She should have stayed w/her natural look. It was refreshing. Instead, she’s an Irishy looking girl who is trying to look like a Scandinavian. She is one of the saddest, desperate celebrities of our time.

  19. Nicole is very tall and it’s not really a surprise that she isn’t showing much in her pregnancy. My mother is about her height and did not show very much when she was pregnant with me or my sister, until she go to the end of her pregnancy. All women carry differently.

  20. She’s interesting Nicole and I can relate to alot of what she says. I didn’t live with my children for almost five years, not by choice either. They live with me now and its really good, and it taught me to try not to judge other people when you have NO idea of their circumstances. Its incredibly self-righteous.

I don’t drink or smoke and I was single for five years…I also dated a lot of guys before I ‘landed’ my husband. So? Its called freedom of choice and use a condom and whose business is it anyway who someone chooses to spend their time, day or night with? I’ve always thought love in all its forms is probably my addiction as well.

    Live and let live yeah?

  21. Did anyone else watch the Mike Myers SNL special the other night? They showed a sketch from years ago where he played opposite Nicole Kidman. And MY GOD, she looked different. I don’t just mean she looked younger — which is obvious — I mean she looked like a different person. Even my husband, who has always said he thinks Nicole is beautiful, was shocked. He actually didn’t believe it was her at first. Her hair was her natural reddish-brown and very curly, her skin was freckled, her lips were normal, and she was tall and lanky instead of this whittled-down, wiry creature she’s become. It was a little unsettling, to tell you the truth, to see what Hollywood can do to a person.

  22. Her fatal flaw is her love of herself. So much so that she’s becoming a caricature of herself with all the surgeries/treatments and weight loss.

The only way I’d believe she’s really pregnant is if I were in the delivery room with her. For that matter, the only way I’d believe she and Urban are a real married couple is if I were in the bedroom with them. She was more convincingly in love during her fake marriage to Cruise.

  23. WTF, fake marriage to tom cruise and you don’t believe she is really married or pregnant. What are your issues?
