I know you have to hit rock bottom and want to get better on your own… but damn. Something tells me this girl isn’t going to survive long enough for any of that to happen unless someone forces her to.

Poor soul, she is truly killing herself. Most likely to get attention and in a big way. I hope somebody saves her from herself and sections her. It’s gonna take more than just a lockdown for her. 🙁

No bad vibe-thoughts for Amy Winehouse, she will NOT be the next “dead celeb,” what, are you smugly happy in your keen powers of observance and have a betting pool going on over at fafarazzi or somethning? No, she will not die, she’s not gonna die, not now and not any time soon, dammit.
“Adverse reaction to medication” is PR/hospital-speak which translates into “freaked out and began suffering manifestations of borderline narcotic overdose.” That is to say, she flipped out and probably started getting black-out drop-to-the-floor-out-of-nowhere attacks and her heart and breathing became so stressed and laboured that she actually DID feel like she might be dying, so she let her fool crackie buddies call an ambulance and let herself get checked in hospital. What medications, anyway? She’s noton meds! 😆 Unless you count Afghani Heroin, Peruvian Marching Powder, Kush-strong Ganja and pure Homemade Meth-Ice to be medications. 😆
She will be FINE. I love my Amy Winehouse, I will not tolerate it well if she stops living. I broke down and really mourned Kurt Cobain when HE died, and I really don’t want to go through the loss of yet another beautiful genius musician from my generation.
I mean really. They need to arrest her and lock her up. What a terrible message she is sending regarding everything possible… her country, her age group, for women trying to make it in business … blah blah blah. You name it she’s sucking at it.

Kurt Cobain was my generation’s John Lennon. Ask anyone who was in Lennon’s era if they cried when John Lennon died. And YES, absolutely I react strongly to the deaths of people I have never met! Get concerned about your own damn self, woman. Concern yourself with your own inability to feel grief over the deaths of obviously beautiful people and true givers to our human legacy in the arts, sciences, struggles for peace and etcetera, because a cold hard and no feeling for the beauty in others is a mindset and way of life that I’d NEVer wish upon a soul. What a way to have to go through life, caring not a whit when beautiful artists and visionaries prematurely die.

Does no one in her family/circle of friends care enough to kick her ass? She seems kinda beyond the point of being able to tell herself when rock bottom is, and I don’t think anyone will be surprised to hear that she died of a drug overdose or something like that.
I’m being completely serious, Chartreuse! She is a rare artist, born with a gift to create beautiful, soul-inspiring, lasting music. She enriches the world with her artistic contributions.
I think that truly natural-genius abled artists are very, very uncommon, maybe one is born per every 20,000 people, or whatever. They give the world and our lives within it facets of lasting cultural beauty, a gift that only these rare few CAN give. It’s heartbreaking when they die prematurely.
John F. Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, James Dean, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Martin Luther King, Jr., Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur, Gianni Versace, Bradley Nowell (Sublime,)Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, I mean the list is pretty long… All of them genius artists and/or specially gifted visionaries within their respective fields, all dying way too young.
So, NOW — Imagine if they’d been able to live out their lives, what more they could have given the world, all that timeless art they could have left us, the differences for the better that they could have wrought!
Basically, I want her to make more great music. If she dies now, the music she and only she can make in her unique way will die with her, and THAT in itself is cause for sorrow.

Plus she’s not very smart so why not find a role model that isn’t stupid and could teach you something about real life. You want a hero? The world is full of them but sadly you don’t have many on your list. You are confusing visual and auditory appeal for talent, courage and brains! Pick someone that hasn’t been on the cover of Rolling Stone and not some pathetic junkie. Maybe slim your list down to people who didn’t waste their lives chasing a temporary high. Seriously are you twelve? You must be. To even mention MLK in the same sentence as frickin’ Kurt Cobain is unbelievable. Read a book. Don’t get all of your knowledge about the world from MTV news. Seriously. Print out what you wrote and show it to a few people — that you don’t know — that have respectable jobs — and ask them if you are right.

Snowblood – a lot of those people wouldn’t have been as famous as they are today had they not died. Amy Winehouse is decent, but Jimi Hendrix she is not.
I dunno – I just have a really hard time feeling sorry for someone who is so blatantly out to lunch. She has to have realized by now that she’s going to kill herself if she doesn’t stop. So if she doesn’t care, why should we?
Oh and Kurt Cobain is not this generation’s Lohn Lennon – ask Francis Bean Cobain – how great her dad is …. she’s a mess because of it – left only to suffer with her crazy mother. I’m sure she thinks he’s a really great guy as does his family, his band mates….
John Lennon was murdered by a lunatic. That is completely different than shooting yourself in the face with a shotgun, in your mansion, with more money in the bank than you can spend, with a job that most people will never in their whole life get, a family who loves and cares about you — all because your depressed – waaaaaah.
Seriously. Are you crying for all the people who were hurt by Cobain’s cowardice — you might want to start – put them in your list.
And yes I cried when John Lennon was shot, when I read about MLK being shot but no snowblood, not when tu-pac was shot in a gunfight that he partially instigated, not when I read about Janis Joplin killing herself with booze and pills, not when I read about Jimmy Hendrix overdosing and choking to death on his own vomit — and I listen to their music and enjoy it nearly every day.

AW’s CD is amazing, but I too came of age in the 90s and I would not put Cobain in the same category as Lennon, at least not in terms of their deaths. Both are senseless tragedies, to be sure, but murder and self-destruction aren’t the same thing. This smacks of a cry for help, the likes of Britney, Anna Nicole Smith, Lindsay Lohan. All very sad.

Edith – yes, I agree, different ways-of-death makes one tragic loss different from another, but still – they’re both dead, and both gifted artists, and both dead way too soon. Dead is dead, whether assasination-dead or drug-overdose dead, it’s still a loss of a beautiful artist.
Hmm…you ever think maybe that’s all they had to give and life was done with them? Maybe if JFK and MLK lived longer they’d just be old obsolete gasbags like Ted Kennedy and Jesse Jackson?

At least five out of the twelve people you listed were murdered. Not that it won’t be sad for her family and fans, but she’s running towards death with open arms. Some of us are just saying we won’t be surprised.
Nirvana was one of the most overrated bands of all time and Cobain has only been immortalized because of his young suicide.
Lennon, on the other hand, was a talented MUSICIAN — not some post-punk hack poet. Lennon had a huge catalog of solid work that spanned decades and was cut down in his prime by a lunatic. Completely different situations, I dare say.
She’s a sad person who deserves as much compassion as the next guy – no more, no less. It’s sad she’s going about the way she is, poor babe is obviously very troubled and being thrust in the spot light certainly isn’t helping matters.
I think we’ve all been stuck in a rut or two during our spin around the globe, but I don’t think any of us have had the funds, enabling family/friends, or the constant media attention to fuel a total and complete meltdown such as the Wino.

Winehouse’s situation is sad but she’s not as talented as her label would like you to think, she lacks soul. She’s interesting at best.

I was listening to “Back to Black” in my car only yesterday afternoon, hours before this happened, and thinking how much talent Wino has. But talented is as talented does. What use is brilliance if you piss it away in this fashion? God-given, natural talent should be used.
So in my view there’s a terrible selfishness involved in the self-destruction, and a lack of appreciation of what she has. Addicts on the street who have no means and no future are one thing, but she could have a great and fulfilled life without drugs.

While I do appreciate Winehouse’s talents, I certainly cold not lump her in with JFK, MLK, Janis Joplin etc. A true genius is someone who as the power to change other’s thinking and do something extraordinary. Winehouse is just a singer, albeit a good one, and while it’s a shame that she is ruining her life, she is a big girl now. Perhaps she will have a total breakdown and then epiphany like Britney and we can all look forward to her comeback?
Have followed Amy since she first appeared, have seen her live a number of times, am a huge fan, always will be a huge fan, think she has a rare, exceptional talent, am truly broken-hearted by what’s happening to her now. There’s my credentials, I love the girl, but can we stop referring to her as a genius please?

some of the damage she has done to herself are practically irreversible, so it might be even too late for rehab! and she admitedly said to have access to drugs druing her last stay…so whats the point really? at the end of the day it´s her decision! And she doesn´t want to get better, she doesn´t want to be a genious nor an inspiration to anyone and she doesn´t care about what we all think or wish her, seriously! I just feel bad for her dad, it must be not easy to see a child destroying herself like that.
@snowblood: sorry, but don’t even begin to try comparing Cobain to the genuine genius of John Lennon. There is simply no comparison. Cobain may have been talented, but he was nowhere near the brilliance of Lennon.
I think what snowblood is also touching on, after all of you have finished ripping her to shreds and feasting on her flesh for daring to mention her lineup of geniuses and talents of our age, is that great talent sometimes comes with great suffering. so many artists and creators have a history of mental disease like bipolar, which is responsible for swings of creativity and genius and then turns to drugs, self-medicating, depression, and self destructive behavior. she was pointing out that many of our artists and contributors to culture, including so many painters and musicians, etc. have been damaged goods. but they made their mark. and yes, i know MLK wasnt bipolar, nor your everyday ‘artist’ but sheesh, lay off. the gist of what she is saying is totally true.

Im afraid Amy will be the next Anna Nicole, someone needs to step in and DO SOEMTHING! i understand her friends and family wanting to trust her, and believe her, but clearly she needs help! she will die before she does it on her own unless someone steps in fast!
My mom said the same thing last night about Amy being the next Anna Nicole. It is very sad that it all has to be this way but hopefully she will get the help that she needs. But I have to say this, the girl did get famous for singing a song that says they’re trying to get her to go to rehab “and I said no, no, no!” What did we all really expect from her? I mean seriously!
