Was Anne Hathaway paid $750,000 to wear Tiffany’s jewels during the Oscars?

wenn3230624

I came away from Sunday’s Oscar telecast with a new-found respect for Anne Hathaway. I’ve liked her for a while now (ever since I saw Rachel Getting Married and I realized that she’s a really good actress), but her cheerful attempts to be a good host in the face of James Franco’s general lazy douchebaggery won my heart. Anne is a good girl. And when she want on Oprah to dish, she even said nice things about James, which she didn’t have to do. She could have sold him out and I would have still respected her. But she kept it classy, and good for her. Anyway, one of the highlights of Anne’s hostessing of the Oscar was all of the fabulous dresses and jewelry. I assumed that all of the stuff was just borrowed, and that Rachel Zoe (Anne’s stylist) had simply pulled some strings with some of the big designers to get Anne some good stuff. Anne told Oprah that while some of the stuff was just borrowed from various designers, other gowns had to be “built” from scratch, just for her. And that’s not all, according to Us Weekly. Their sources claim that all of Anne’s borrowed jewelry came from Tiffany’s, and that Anne GOT PAID (for real) just to wear all of this stuff:

Hathaway has a way with bling! Anne Hathaway scored a major bonus when she wore glitzy jewelry from Tiffany & Co. while hosting the Oscars on Sunday night.

An insider tells UsMagazine.com that the actress, 28, was paid a whopping $750,000 to wear the baubles at Hollywood’s biggest event.

The Love and Other Drugs star wasn’t the only A-lister making bank on Oscar night, either.

Another source tells Us that Gwyneth Paltrow — who performed “Coming Home” during the show — netted a sweet $500,000 to wear earrings, a brooch and ring from Louis Vuitton’s “L’Ame du Voyage” collection.

It’s not the first time Paltrow has been linked to lucrative, hush-hush endorsements. In late 2009, sources told Us Weekly that the actress was compensated to help promote the lavish Hotel La Mamounia in Marrakech, Morroco.

Reps for Paltrow, Hathaway, Vuitton and Tiffany & Co. all tell Us the payment claims are “incorrect.”

[From Us Weekly]

I’m guessing that the numbers are too high, especially in Goop’s case. Anne probably did get some kind of endorsement deal from Tiffany’s, but my guess is that it was probably lower to mid-six figures, not $750,000. As for Goop – wow. I guess luxury brands still want to be associated with her, for whatever reason.

That second red gown Anne’s wearing, with the red beading… isn’t that a very similar dress to Jessica Alba’s post-party gold thing? That scrolling sort of art-deco paneling is very distinctive.

As much as I grudgingly hate to admit, I can understand why Gwenyth would get paid big money. She the star that many love to hate and she’s got mad connections in Hollywood, known as a ‘fashion girl’,the press LOVES her, and of course there are the mothers who subscribe to GOOP. Ugh

Wouldn’t be surprised if they did get paid. It’s good publicity for the store.

I am usually right on board w you, but I thought Anne Hathway sucked hosting. Yes, James Franco wasn’t helping a whole lot, but AH really got on my nerves. and I liked her beforehand! I always thought she did a good job on SNL and was expecting more of the same- she was just SO Aw shucks we’re at the Oscars isn’t this CRAZY and aren’t I so cute?! And didn’t someone let her know she was mic-ed? Aside from all her cutesyness, it drove me crazy that immediately after she introduced a presenter she would start YELLING. You could tell the sound guys figured it out eventually, but she just annoyed me so much.

but yes she looked AMAZING. I thought she looked adorable in her tux/ponytail getup too.

I also disagree with Anne being a good host for the Oscars. Her effusiveness made me gag!

I did notice that she made a point of mentioning the Tiffany jewels a couple times. Where as most women were asked, she, at one point grabbed her neclkace, looked in to the camera and gushed ” Oh, and this is a GOOOOORGEOUS Tiffany necklace. Everything is from Tiffany’s”.

Tiffany has always had gorgeous stuff.

And if they offer to pay, to wear it on the air for millions to see, I would have taken them up on that offer too!

Every third sentence out of my mouth would have been “have you seen my Tiffany necklace?”… “Oh isn’t my Tiffany platinum and diamond ring amazing!”

Seriously, I would have done it. Especially if I got gifted a bracelet for my troubles. :)

I’ll wear that diamond necklace for free! Call me, Tiffany’s!!! But good for Ann – if the cash is there you might as well take it.

They both did a horrendous job hosting the Oscars. They wanted young & edgy and got boring & lame.

And of course they got paid an astronomical amount to parade those jewels around. How can anyone think that they weren’t getting compensated for every item they wore. Why else would Anne Hathaway change into at least 8 different dresses during the ceremony… $… $… $… $!!!

It’s really funny that they think just because we see something on one of these actors it’s going to make us run out and buy a $50,000 bracelet. Not gonna happen.

That beaded dress on her was gorgeous. I’ve seen Anne in so little, and I really must rectify that situation because I keep hearing such good things about her acting and now her professionalism is impressing me too. Plus she is so likable. Look at her poses vs Gwynnie’s nose in the air shots.

I like Anne too, I think she tried but overcompensated for James. She’s a good actress though, and that red beaded dress was killer.
I think letting them borrow the jewels for free is something in itself, I can’t imagine paying them to wear them! I guess it is good exposure, but I doubt it produces the sort of returns to cover those sums.
Ah well, now Goop can go buy more cleanses and expensive kids clothes.

she annoys me in a reese witherspoon kind of way…but she rocked those dresses. in stills…she can look amazing.

funny how it used to be an honor to wear the jewelry & they would assign a guard to watch over them…but now celebs are actually paid to wear them.

@Kaye… my friend and I are in dispute over whether they are botox marks. They can look very much like that, but it would be unusual for her to get her shots so close to an event…but who knows, maybe she’s so busy being perfect she left it a little late…:)

love Hathaway’s 2nd red dress she is wearing with her hair down.

for Paltrow, i did not like either dress. the silver material was cool, but the cut was boring. HATED those hooker heels she wore with it too. it’s as if she is TRYING SO DANG HARD to be sexy…and keeps missing.

for Paltrow’s beige dress — just hideous on her : color tones + fit. plus the make-up is too bland.

for a win “beige” or “nude’ look, check out Halle Berry. who i still think is a psycho b*tch but DID look gorgeous.

Paltrow has a nice bod but her face is for shit what is up with the side of her temple?

I love Anne I will watch her in anything sadly – I wish they had another actor beside her in Love and Other Drugs – Jakey just ruined that movie.

Anne was horrible, I knew she would be as soon as it was announced that she was going to co-host because everything she does interview wise or whatnot she comes off as an overeager goody two shoes Try Hard! I’m sorry if that is mean but it’s true- I thought Franco’s laid back nature would be great to balance her out but since he was so fucking stoned beyond belief it ended up being Anne FULL ON for 3 1/2 hours!!!! I don’t want to see her for at least 6 months
