Anne Hathaway shows off her trim figure, short hair in Miami: super-cute?

These are some new photos of Anne Hathaway in Miami over the weekend. She seems to be hanging out with friends, and while I don’t see her fiance in any of the pics, I’m sure he’s around. The photo agency is trying to make a big deal about Anne not wearing her $150,000 engagement ring (price according to Fame/Flynet) while in the ocean, but I feel like that’s a non-story. Some women never take off their engagement ring for anything, some women will take off their rings and jewelry for beaches, showers, etc. Everybody’s different. Anne was in Miami to help celebrate Valentino’s 80th birthday, which… Valentino holds his birthday party in Miami? That seems rather gauche for him. But Annie’s one of his girls, so it’s nice that she showed up.

I don’t know if she’s finished filming Les Miserables or if she just had a weekend off. That’s why she’s got this haircut, remember – she’s playing Fantine, and Anne has gone through a “dramatic” makeover to look authentic for the role. The makeover involves this miserable haircut… I can already feel some of you preparing your pro-short-hair diatribes, so let me just say this: there are many women who can rock a short haircut. I am not one of them. Neither is Anne.

While in Miami, Annie was also showing off her trimmer Fantine-figure in a black bikini. We don’t have access to the full-body shots, but you can see some at Dlisted. She looks very trim, but… I don’t know, to me, she doesn’t look emaciated. I wonder if the reports of her “extreme dieting and weight loss” have been exaggerated. (Her boobs do look smaller though!)

I’m also including some shots of Anne walking around Miami in a long-sleeved black dress which… I hate myself, but I really, really want this dress. I think it’s super-cute.

    Grow your hair back ASAP!

    • Maguita says:

I LOVE her for making Fantine look so real!

The chopped hair makes seem emaciated, gives her a starving look, and highlights her big eyes, which could play puppy-pathetic.

She is no Kardashian: She doesn’t need to flash her “engagement” ring at the beach!

      • ahoyhoy says:

Who wears jewelry in the ocean anyway? Especially a valuable engagement ring? It blows my mind that tabs are so bored they have to make that a story. Have they never been to the beach? The digging for scandal defies all logic this time.

And Maguita–I so agree with you. The ‘real chop’ on Anne’s hair is great! Short-hair wigs covering long hair are SO distracting in movies. In ‘Steel Magnolias’, I couldn’t stop staring at Julia’s damned wig! I give credit to Anne for wanting to do it right, a wig on her long thick hair would have looked AWFUL and floated about 2 inches over her scalp.

      • Maguita says:

We were in awe of Tom Hanks’ transformation in Philadelphia and Cast Away. There are also Edward Norton (American History X), and Christian Bale’s dramatic weight loss for The Machinist.

Why not Anne Hathaway? Look at her in that black baggy dress, she IS Fantine! And I appreciate her sincere commitment even more, for clearly in the first shots of her chopped hair, she was quite uncomfortable with the look.

      • Adrien says:

No sorry, can’t look at her now without seeing Marc Jacobs’ face. I admire her for losing weight and cutting her hair for a role but the look just reminds me of Marc Jacobs.

  2. Jennifer says:

She looks ugly in my opinion. Some people look good in any hair but she is not one of them.

    • Katren says:

Yeah the hair is terrible, but the sunglasses do her no favours either!

    • Anne says:

You do realize she did this for a film.

      • Jennifer says:

So? She could use a wig. Unless she is going to do what Nicole and Charlize. Become ugly and Oscar is yours.

      • Tina says:

We’re not stupid , we know this is for a part but it doesn’t change the fact that this cut is horrendous on her. In one picture you can see her scalp on the top of her head where they made a bald spot. Gross.

      • ZenB!tch says:

That doesn’t mean she looks good. It just means she knows she doesn’t look good. But she looks adorable in her hat.

  3. Agnes says:

no, not good. the haircut doesn’t look good on her (i love it on others – i love short hair) and she’s just painfully skinny.

    • Liv says:

Yup, too skinny, clearly not her body type. I like her hair though. She looks better with longer hair, but the short cut looks cute as well.

In other pictures somebody brought her a t-shirt and towel to the ocean (because of the paparazzi!?) – she’s probably not that comfortable with her body right now.

    • Lisa says:

      Painfully skinny?? Wow…

    • ZenB!tch says:

Painfully skinny? She looks a tad underweight in the bikini but not horribly so. She looks fine in the dress and the beach cover up.

She looks like she’s about the same weight (for her height) as Miley is for hers, but less toned. She lost her T&A but the rest of her is still there. She has no creepy bones showing. This is not Ally McBeal.

It’s a young woman who needed slightly hollow cheeks for a part so the make up team have something to work with.

  4. gillociraptor says:

In the top picture, she looks like Tom Cruise in Top Gun

  5. normades says:

Some people just look better carrying more weight, and she’s one of them.

The short hair is not cute on her either.

    • Marjalane says:

You have to have very small, pretty features, (ala icky Halle Berry or Natalie Portman) to pull off a cut like that. I don’t think she lost no extra 15 lbs either- but she’s a tall girl, so maybe she did. Never have found her to be a pretty girl, still don’t.

  6. danni says:

really? I think the short hair looks great on her, very winona esque.

  7. LittleDeadGirl says:

I like how she looks in the picture with the black hair. I don’t think she looks bad but she looks better with long hair. It’s nice she did what she had to for a role. I’ve gotten so tired of actresses who care more about being pretty then playing a role.

  8. Jennifer12 says:

I love the Jean Seberg haircut, but I’m not sure it works on her. But I love her devotion to the role. That said, she looks much too skinny.

  9. dori says:

Does anybody know which brand is Anne Hathaway’s sunglasses in the bottom pictures where she’s wearing a dress? Love the glasses! Gotta have them!

  10. Britt says:

I love her dress, I would get it in a few different colours.

  11. Jilli says:

She has a very soft, mushy looking body. Obviously she is slim because she is not eating and not exercising. Not a good look.

  12. Original Lucy says:

In my opinion, Anne is not an exceptionally pretty girl…every feature on her face it too big…huge eyes, big nose, huge mouth and teeth…so the short hair just does not work. But, I understand she had to do this for her role and it does make her look like someone who could use a good meal! Sincerely hope she grows it back as soon as the movie wraps. She needs to rock the Jen Anniston method of using her hair to cover her not so pretty features…

    • MacScore says:

Ditto that. Too big features. And, actually, she’s handed in some _dreadful_ roles (what was that crap film about her crashing someone’s wedding? Or something? Rehab? So bad I’ve totally forgotten it. She over-acted so badly it was unwatchable), so not willing to give her any slack.
Not loving her at all. Don’t care what her hair/body are doing. Really not. If it ain’t about spirit, not interested.

  13. Whoa!! says:

I can not stand Anne Hathaway and I’m usually not a hater. I’m simply not buying the ‘Who Me? I’m Just An Innocent Nice Girl-Next-Door Type’ facade she’s always putting on.

  14. Original Chloe says:

OMG Anne isn’t wearing her ring on the beach. She MUST HATE IT! (and Brad Pitt!)

    • ahoyhoy says:

It must be BRAD who made her get skinny too! The bastard!

      • Brittney says:

        Hahahaha… nicely done.

It’s hilarious how everything that Angie does is Brad’s fault — except, of course, getting together with him in the first place. That was all her, disrupting his perfectly happy marriage like that.

  15. daz says:

muscle is heavier than fat, she looks very slim and ‘not’ toned. she needs to eat a bit more and go running.

    • Anguishedcorn says:

Agree, but she has never looked toned in any picture I’ve seen of her, even as “Cat Woman” in the film stills that have been released. She always has had big meat sticks for legs.

  16. MonicaBee says:

I do not love her with short hair, but like Kaiser said, some people can’t rock it. I’ve tried the look and I fail miserably.

Also, AH is wearing her engagement ring in the black dress photos, so I think that really is a nonstory. If I had an engagement ring, no matter the cost, I would not be wearing it in the ocean. Recipe for a lost ring.

  17. Jayna says:

Maybe all done up with a great red lipstick and great eye makeup with her big eyes and her pale skin the dark short hair might look striking. But day to day, no.

  18. carrie says:

she’s skinny? yes but she’s not that skinny(the diet story is exagerrated)
my major trouble is NOT her hair (very “winona”) but how she’s white, she’s amost phosphorescent!

  19. Jackson says:

Eh, it’s not so bad. Besides, she’s not trying to make some kind of style statement with it, it was cut for a film. I actually applaud her for going for it and getting her hair cut and not just putting on a wig. I bet it feels very liberating to have such short hair. Besides, it’ll be fun to see what she does with it as it grows out.

  20. stephanie says:

she doesn’t look emaciated? what does look emaciated then? that last shot of her leg…. omg.

    • Brittney says:

That’s what I was thinking!! If I didn’t know it was for a role, I would be genuinely worried for her mental and physical health after seeing those thighs.

    • mayamae says:

Exactly my thought. My God if this is “trim”, what is skinny? She is completely emaciated! Since her haircut was for a role, I choose not to criticize her for it.

  21. LoveryWindows says:

I guess I have the unpopular opinion because I think she looks good. I’ve always found her to be a very unusual looking woman, however that never made her ugly; her feautures just made her more beautiful.

Anyways, the cut is cute on her in my opinion.

  22. janie says:

Her boobs are gonneeeeeee! It’s amazing how quickly they can disappear when some people lose weight. If I lose 5 lbs, I become totally flat, but my butt stays just as enormous. *Sigh*

    • Original Lucy says:

me too…:(..always lose weight in my boobs and my face…never my lower region…damn it!

    • Maguita says:

Same here! Boobs first… Ass never, or hardly ever. *insert silent tears here.*

    • Brittney says:

Trust me, the opposite sucks too. I have huge boobs and a nearly flat pancake ass, and you can guess what happens when I lose weight. I hate it.

  23. poppy says:

love the dress. like the hair.

  24. marybeth18 says:

I’ve always thought she had a lovely figure- slim, but not skinny, with softness and curves. She has lost weight for the role, but she’s playing a character who dies from tb and sells her hair. Lots of actresses have had to deal with haircuts/colors for roles that weren’t the most flattering (Rooney Mara, Kristen Stewart’s black mullet for Joan Jett, Blake Lively’s horrible red for Hick, etc.)
It’s not a great look for her, because she has very large features. Lots of long hair balance out her features, but with a pixie cut they are emphasized. Short short hair works on women with very symmetrical, petite facial features.
Still, I think she’s a good actress and she’s obviously committed to the role.

  25. shiba says:

She looks a lot like Swifty to me, body-wise, now.

  26. Alexis says:

She doesn’t look emaciated to me. She looks fat-skinny (thin from dieting with no exercise), and within the pale of normal. Her legs in the last pic are healthier-looking than those of Jolie or Kate Middleton.

That said, I believe she lost weight, Anne generally maintains a bigger size among Hollywood women (aka she is a normal skinny girl usually, not a Hollywood skinny girl).

  27. palermo says:

Just like Julia Roberts, her mouth is waaaaay too big for her face. The short hair just makes it worse.

  28. faye says:

HATE the short hair! It makes her look not only older, but like a dude.

  29. Brittney says:

I’ve never understood why anyone thinks her face is beautiful, but I like her as a person and admire her talent.

That said, in the pictures with the sunglasses and the dress, she’s completely unrecognizable — and pretty damn adorable. Though I live close to Miami, and I can’t imagine stepping outside in that dress this week for more than two seconds without being drenched in sweat.

  30. Gene Parmesan says:

    Aww her so unsexy.

  31. Leigh says:

That last photo of her is adorable!

  32. sup says:

her hair looks cute and she doesnt look like shes wasting away to me. she probably has big bones which is why they asked her to lose weight. i know small framed girls who weighed more than me but looked smaller than me at my thinnest. so big boned people have it the worst (or the best) because if you had to look starved, in the case of fantine, itd be hard to accomplish but in real life, much like kate moss if you have a thick skeleton you look better than other scrawny-skinny people.

  33. Camille (The original) says:

Anything for that Oscar huh Anne. Desperate much.

  34. ZenB!tch says:

“there are many women who can rock a short haircut. I am not one of them. Neither is Anne.”

Her hair is for a role so I will excuse the face that she looks hideous. I have to admire her for not going the wig route. I would have. It’s going to take FOREVER to get to a decent length. I would cry or get extensions (little ones to not ruin my natural hair).

Maybe she will surprise me but I think she’s like me – she needs hair to her shoulders.

Me in a bob is bad.

  35. NYC_girl says:

I have short hair like that so I have no negativity, but I think she should use some styling product so she avoids that “sticking up” thing in the back. Her hair is much nicer than mine; I cut mine off because it was very coarse and curly so short works better for me.

  36. Veronica says:

I’m sorry but I think she looks absolutely fugtastic. Heinous.

  37. I AM NOT a fan of her hair AT ALL!! At all. And a fake tan wouldn’t kill her.

  38. RdyfrmycloseupmrDvlle says:

I think she looks amazing, as usual. This actress is total class, dedication and taste. I love her. Think she is gorgeous and I applaude her dedication……as well, to the person who think she needs to get a can….Anne would never do tan in a can….and thats why I love her. Class and taste.

  39. Ange says:

The shoes she’s wearing with that dress are granny-tastic.

  40. TheLazyLioness says:

My very first post here; I adore this site!

I am not particularly a fan of Ms. Hathoway, but I do give her respect for willing to forego vanity for the sake of a role which may deem her to be a serious actress which I am sure she desperately wants. She appears to be a decent person and I hope she does well in this production.

  41. D1 says:

Miami seems too gauche for Valentino? This is a man who looks like he has himself doused in “Toasted Carrot” spray tan every morning.

  42. B says:

    Oh nooo…why?

  43. Rose says:

I think the hair look bad for now, but give it another month and it’ll look cute. It might not suit her long term but she can work it for now.

  44. Cel says:

I don’t think she is too thin – can’t see her ribcage or elbows sticking out. She would appear to have lost the weight without exercising. I admire her for getting her hair cut rather than wearing a wig – I would never cut my hair above my shoulders.

  45. Eve says:

Her teeth look comically big in that first picture.

*They remind me of a Simpsons episode where Bart uses industrial adhesive to glue novelty items to his face.

  46. Hakura says:

Now that’s some serious devotion to her craft… We can be so emotionally attached to our hair, & freak at the smallest thing, but she really took the plunge.

Upon surfacing from said plunge, she probably caught sight of her wavering reflection in the water, only to pull out her cell & surf every ‘hat’ website in existence. I made a similar misake once. Not quite this bad, but a mistake. Looked like ‘mushroom head’ for a year.
