Andrea Casiraghi & Tatiana Santo Domingo to marry in Monaco on August 31

Last year, Princess Caroline of Monaco announced her eldest son’s engagement, and it was widely believed at the time that the engagement happened because Andrea Casiraghi’s long-time girlfriend Tatiana Santo Domingo (an heiress) had gotten knocked up. Well, Tatiana was pregnant, and she ended up giving birth to a boy, Sacha Casiraghi, several months ago. The Monaco line of succession is kind of wacky – from what I can tell, Sacha will be in the line of succession as soon as Tatiana and Andrea marry, and Tatiana is being included in all of the family celebrations henceforth. It’s the marriage that “solidifies” the heir to the throne – without it, I don’t think Sacha would be able to be included in the line of succession. So… Andrea and Tatiana have finally set a date for their wedding!

Add another royal event to your calendar: Monaco’s Andrea Casiraghi, the son of Princess Caroline and grandson of the late Princess Grace, will marry fiancé Tatiana Santo Domingo later this month, sources confirm.

“The wedding will occur on Aug. 31,” a spokesperson for Monaco’s Pink Palace tells PEOPLE. “It will be a private ceremony.”

The couple, who have dated for seven years and have a son, Sacha, born last March, were schoolmates together at Paris’s Lycée Fontainebleau.

They were introduced by Casiraghi’s sister Charlotte and have been engaged since July 2012.

Casiraghi, who is Caroline’s eldest son, is second in line to succeed his uncle, Prince Albert II, as Monaco’s ruling sovereign. Santo-Domingo is a Colombian heiress and fashion designer.

[From People]

Princess Caroline has been saying for a while that the Grimaldi line will be extended through her children, although she mostly said that before Albert married Charlene. But Charlene doesn’t seem that interested in producing an heir at all. If Charlene and Albert have children, then Andrea and Tatiana’s son won’t be in such a ripe position to inherit everything and rule Monaco one day. We’ll see.

Incidentally, I’m just going to call it at this point. Charlotte Casiraghi is pregnant. I think she’s pretty far along too, I’m saying she’s well into her second trimester, if not her third. She stepped out over the weekend looking really pregnant. And she’s not married to her boyfriend (who is 15 years older than her) either. Ugh. This family!

Lots of money, too much free time on their hands… what these people need are jobs. Idle hands, people, idle hands!!!

  2. Chrissy says:

I used to be so obsessed with the Casiraghi’s. they were always so glamorous. Having said that, Andrea is looking ROUGH lately, Charlotte is still gorgeous but the one that still gets my attention every time is Pierre. I wonder what he’s up to lately..

    • Tapioca says:

Didn’t he get involved in a fight in a Miami(?) nightclub a while ago?

I love the Monaco royals – they’re like the Kardashians before the Kardashians were the Kardashians – and they represent their country perfectly, ie. too rich and completely trashy!

    • Talie says:

The Casiraghi’s did look better younger. I just think they all live pretty hard.

      • MÓNACO says:

A handsome, sensitive, refined … Trapped by Colombian capricious, domineering, quick-tempered, spoiled, ill-mannered!
Clearly Umbanda witchcraft, black magic and other Kimbanda practiced by Santo Domingo-Rechulsi worked for them to catch the distinguished Tatiana boyfriend!

    • Spooks says:

Pierre seems like a spoiled a**hole.

    • BlackMamba says:

Andrea use to be so hot, now he just looks like a heavy, very heavy drug user. Plus he and Tatiana always look so miserable. Sometimes I think having more money would solve a lot of issues for me other times when I look at people like this guy, I think geez it’s not all its cracked up to be.

  3. Birdie says:

I don’t think Charlene and Albert will have children. Just imagine the poor kid in that loveless marriage. Just let Andrea be the heir.

  4. QQ says:

They look so druggielicious, lets see how they clean up… Seriously tho the Grimaldis from Caroline and that drunk German husband on down to Stephanie and the crazy low class baby daddies and rapey looking Albert are just so so so Messy…. And I Live for that trash

    • BooBooLaRue says:

      LOL isn’t this the truth!

    • Harriet says:

Although I agree with almost everything you said I object to the term that a man, just by appearance can be called rapey looking. That’s a very casual assumption for quite serious intentions/actions. I’m not usually sensitive about things like this but it’s the equivalent of accusing a woman of looking like a paedo.

      • BestJess says:

I think most people understand that if someone is described as rapey it’s shorthand for sleazy & creepy looking not that they’re saying they actually look like they’d be rapists. Clearly that would be a stupid saying given that rapists don’t have a “look”.

      • John Wayne Lives says:

        I think Albert is rapey

  5. Merritt says:

I wonder if Charlotte will convert in the event that she marries the boyfriend. I know that he is older and he has a child from a previous relationship, but other than that is there anything truly shady about the guy?

    • Amy says:

If you’re thinking the guy is a gold digger he is not. He doesn’t need Charlotte for publicity. He is very famous in the French speaking world. Do a search for him on YouTube and you will find hundreds of clips showing him doing stand up in front of very large audiences. He is successful in his own right and has done a couple of movies too. Shady enough for you?

      • Merritt says:

I’ve seen him in films. But I don’t know anything about him outside of that. I was pretty sure he didn’t need the money.

I’m more curious if he is known to have a bad rep with women.

    • Ally8 says:

He’s pretty successful in France, but not particularly classy or glamourous. It would be like a royal getting knocked up by Adam Sandler or Kevin Smith, to find an American equivalent. He’s had a pretty quiet personal life, though, so at least he’s not a tacky tabloid mess.

Though he did previously date Marie Drucker, a news reader who is the niece of a host who’s been on French TV forever, so that was his previous celebrity love life connection.

  6. Kate says:

Charlotte has a golden ring on her right hand, maybe she’s already married.
And if she isn’t so what, this isn’t the 19th century.

    • Hannah says:

Thank you! What is this obsession with people having to be married before they have a child? It doesn’t make an ounce of difference (given that this isn’t the 19th century).

      • Tapioca says:

It makes a difference if there are titles and inheritances at stake!

And a recent UK survey revealed that 93% of couples whose relationships are still intact by the time their child is a teenager are married. It’s unfashionable to say, but married parents are statistically far more likely to be in it for the long haul.

      • Justme says:

        @tapioca +1
Nice to hear someone say it. Part of the reason that marriage exists in all societies is for the rearing of children. We should think twice before we hurl out what centuries of human tradition have developed. (Notice I only said part of the reason. I am perfectly well aware that there are other reasons, but the raising of children is one of the primary ones – and statistics and studies have shown that having married parents is best for children.)

      • Hannah says:

I don’t unterstand why people cite the longevity of people’s unions as an argument for marriage. It does not mean that these people are happy or that their marriages are “stable”. Also, some of these 93% (and I am for argument’s sake accept this statistic) might well have gotten married AFTER they had already had children.

      • Suze says:

I don’t think there is an obsession here on CB about people having to be married to have kids. Particularly in the celebrity world, the prevailing attitude of most commenters and of most of the CB’s posts is “eh…do what you want.”

The reason that it is exasperating *in this particular situation* is that the Grimaldi’s titles are dependent on *legitimate* heirs. They cannot pass their titles to illegitimate children. And they keep frickin’ having them. Geez, someone needs to get married and get a legal heir out there.

Also, there is the undeniable fact that the Grimaldis are shady all around. I love Tom and Lorenzo’s description of them as a bunch of sweaty carnies. It’s so apt!

      • Ally8 says:

The whole point is to marry a person you can count on, and be able to count on the person you marry. And that your kids can count on both of you sticking around. The contract is a ‘paper tie’ in lieu of a ‘blood tie’.

Now, not marrying a bonehead is a whole separate issue re: longevity of the union.

      • Jackie Jormp Jomp (formerly Zelda) says:

        @Tapioca
The only thing that “statistic” (questionable with no source) proves is that people who have been together for two dozen years are likely to be married, because I’m betting that the statistic for childless people who have been together for teens of years is similar. It proves…. nothing.

You are really bad at statistics.

  7. Mar says:

They look like strung out hippies. Lol I kind of like it

    • Vesta says:

      That’s a good comparison – they are hippies 🙂
And I actually like them for being this way. I’m not saying I like their every move (esp. Albert’s) but why for example should having children before marriage be trashy ? It’s modern, lots of people do that nowadays.

  8. Dena says:

So unrelated but for some reason I have always like Princess Stephanie.

    • Naomi says:

I like her too. She has led one full life that’s for sure. Not much for conspiracy theories but I always thought there was more to the story about the car crash. I think Stephanie has always had a powerful will and thought she went off the rails dealing with what happened. Not that she would not have been a wild child but perhaps not caused by such trauma.

  9. jinni says:

He used to be sooooo pretty. Damn, now look at him. What’s the other brother doing? Peter is his name, right? He was cute too(well the last time I saw him he was), but not as fine as Andrea. Drugs and drink are the devil.

  10. Harriet says:

They are like the Euro version of Meet the Kardashians or something! Seriously! The list goes on- marrying acrobats, runaway brides, illegitimate children from Albert babies out of wedlock, New York brawls, alcoholic German stepfathers, boat accidents, car accidents, posing naked, recording albums, drugs. If something like this happened here in England we wouldn’t have a royal family!

    • brin says:

Yes, they are a real guilty pleasure!

    • Mima says:

But that sounds exactly like the British royal family

      • Harriet says:

There are a lot of royal related scandals- and Harry hasn’t helped, BUT you wouldn’t see a Kate Middleton and Prince William hidden, secret baby, out of wedlock. Prince Charles isn’t an abusive, peeing in public drunk, Princess Beatrice isn’t pregnant with a man 15 years her senior. Not one of them have attempted to record a pop album. AND parallels will be made about the iconic princess dying in a car crash and they have their scandals but they are never as Kardashian-esque as the Grimaldis! 🙂

      • LAK says:

Harriet – ROFL. BRF as you’ve written would be something to see….LOL.

  11. Leah says:

I remember reading about the exploits of Albert, Caroline and Stephanie when I was growing up and how it always made my mother so upset that Princess Grace’s children were so off the rails. When Diana died she was really worried William and Harry would go the same way but I guess shows the influence of a father in that situation. Charles seems may more hands on than Rainier ever seemed

  12. Jacqueline says:

Charlotte is beautiful, she looks strikingly like her mother.
What is it with these Monaco royals getting themselves knocked up and having babies out of wedlock?

  13. Talie says:

The Monaco royals have no reason to care what the public thinks of them because Monaco is basically a dictatorship. They own that piece of land and no media is going to be bossing them around like they do with the British royals. I mean, can you imagine if Harry got Cressida pregnant? There would be an epic melt down.

Charlotte though… I mean, I hope she knows what she’s doing. She seems to be making the same mistakes her mother did.

    • Naomi says:

Gotta agree. There is no motivation nor any examples for the Grimaldi family to follow. They are royalty of a tax haven. What is there role other than to maintain the tax haven and be wealthy? There are certainly no role models to follow nor boundaries set. The having babies and not being married saddens me far less than the male Grimaldi attitudes. The men always look so arrogant and entitled which I find I I appealing..

I have never taken to Albert. For some reason he has always struck me as cruel and self absorbed for no discernible reason. I genuinely hope his bride does not provide an heir. Not unless it scores her millions and control and her freedom. Sadly, I don’t think she has the fortitude Such a stance would take. She just seems so god awful sad and stuck and I would love for her to man up and put Albert in his place.

      • Naomi says:

Lol. I meant unappealing. Sorry arrogance and entitlement are not my thing. As, apparently, is coherence.

      • Mel says:

Albert’s development as a human being was severely stunted as a result of his mother’s death (not least because he has some reason to feel guilty – at least in his mind). I don’t think people realise just HOW deeply and painfully it affected him.

As harsh as this will sound, I cannot comprehend anyone marrying him.
And I don’t feel sorry for Charlene, not AT ALL. She is not a babe in the woods; she’s a grown woman who could have said NO at any point of the ceremony, if not before. (Yes, she COULD have.)
She didn’t. She has her reasons.

  14. Kate says:

Does any of them have a job? I mean what do they do all the time?

    • Talie says:

No. Just “official” duties and some random charities. I think, like any other royal and aristocrat, they have jobs that give them a ton of flexibility.

  15. Madriani's Girl says:

Princess Caroline looks great. But do any of these “upper class” Grimaldis ever consider getting married BEFORE they get knocked up or knock someone up? Seriously, the only class this family has ever exhibited was Princess Grace herself.

    • CC says:

Uhhh….no. Grace Kelly had plenty of rumors about affairs and other stuff following her. Not exactly what I’d call “classy”.

  16. Bridget says:

The Casiragi family (thats right Ernst, not including you!) is so good looking. Caroline’s always been the Grimaldi that I found the most interesting – next to Stephanie she managed to appear to be the stable one, but there’s always been so much drama throughthe whole family. Speaking of which, what has Stephanie been up to?

    • Tig says:

I agree- Caroline’s looks have held up well, but man does she have lousy taste in men! Whatever happened to the first hubbie?

Charlotte’s ads for Gucci were stunning. Pre knock-up, wasn’t she like a top show jumper? She should have stayed with the horses!

      • fingerbinger says:

Caroline divorced her first husband. Her second husband, the father of her children, was killed in a boat accident. Ernst is her third husband.

      • Suse says:

yes, and Ernst made her a real Royal Highness. Caroline and her little daughter outrank the whole Grimaldi/Casiraghi family

      • Bridget says:

Ernst was supposedly the match that Princess Grace wanted for Caroline, too.

      • BestJess says:

Ernst is Prince of a kingdom that no longer exists. The fact that any monarchies still exist is sad enough but how pathetic is it to style yourself Prince of a people who don’t recognise you? Considering the utter waste of oxygen the Eurotrash royals are, and how much money they hoard, I often think the French revolutionaries had the right idea. Send em all to the guillotine and redistribute the wealth.

  17. WOW! These royals seem kinda trashy.

  18. lisa says:

the grimaldis sans charlene get their birth control wherever simon cowell gets his

charlene is in a chastity belt i think

  19. MsAubra says:

LMAO I loves me some Andrea! He is EVERYTHING! He is what that small, innate superficial part of ourselves should aspire to be should it ever be bigger! LOL

  20. minxx says:

Andrea has been looking rough as of late. But I like the fact that despite his wealth and position he hasn’t chased leggy models for the past 7 years but he’s been with the same, sort of average looking, girlfriend. Pierre also has a long term girlfriend – overall, the family seems very close, spending lots of holidays together. I doubt they have trouble with birth control either – in France even teenagers are already on the pill and I’m sure Charlotte has made a very conscious decision to get pregnant with Gad – she was with Alex for years w/o getting pregnant. I don’t think that getting married is a priority to them, they live much the same way as the upper class French do – not very restricted, traditon bound and they’re not “royalty”, have no titles, get no money from the state. They seem to live their lives as any other rich family in this part of Europe would. I remember Caroline saying that she regrets her parents didn’t allow her to live with Junot prior to marriage because she would have found out immediately what kind of person he was. So,in order to live with him she had to marry him, which was a huge mistake. I bet she doesn’t want her kids to do the same.

    • Tig says:

Thank you for first hubbie’s name- did he stay in Euro press after their divorce? I don’t remember seeing another thing about him after that.

    • Suze says:

Yes, but someone, at some point, needs to produce a legitimate baby in that family so the title can be passed down. Or get married so that the kid can be legitimate.

It’s not a moral issue here but a legal one.

      • Sachi says:

All of Albert’s legit immediate family except for Camille, Stephanie’s youngest child who is considered illegitimate, is in line to the throne of Monaco. There is no shortage of heirs and there won’t be a succession crisis in the near future.

Even if Charlotte doesn’t get married to Gad and her 1st child not in line to the throne, she’ll still be in the line of succession with her younger sister Alexandra after her.

Maybe Stephanie’s kids will do “better” in the future when it comes to relationships and kids.

      • Suze says:

I’m sure they have enough people to toss the title off to. I was exaggerating for effect because there are a lot of illegitimate kids floating around in that family. Mostly from Fat Al himself. And it is an unusual situation for a royal family.

And I am using the term illegitimate to define legal status, not as a moral finger pointing. I don’t care particularly if people are married when they procreate as long as the kid is in a stable, loving environment, it’s all good.

  21. bns says:

    He’s kind of hot.

  22. Kate says:

This family is total Eurotrash. Since I don’t fund it, it’s pretty entertaining to watch.

  23. MissNostalgia says:

They look like a pair of unwashed hippies. The Grimaldis have worse morals than the pack of feral cats that I look after.

    • lisa says:

you would never know by looking at both andrea and tatiana that they have more than $10 between them

  24. aenflex says:

I can gladly say I’ve no idea who any of these people are, apart from Charlene, and even then I am only aware of her from hearing about her here.

  25. Suse says:

Charlotte´s boyfriend may be older, but he is a famous and loved french comedian. He has lots of money… same with Andrea´s babymommy. Better than a laundress 😉

The Casiraghis aren´t royal or serene. Their mother may be a Princess, but her cildren aren´t. Except her youngest daughter Alexandra who is a HRH Princess.

They can do whatever they want. Marriage is not a must today.

    • Mel says:

“They can do whatever they want. Marriage is not a must today.”

Except the only thing standing between them – or any “royal” family (not that the Grimaldis are “royalty”) – and penniless unemployability is the good will of the people. And the people of Monaco are somewhat less “open minded” about family matters and decorum than many may think.

  26. Stacia says:

    Ummm, WHO and WHO????

    • Jackie Jormp Jomp (formerly Zelda) says:

You are on the Internet. You have to be to write this. Google.

  27. lisa says:

i’d like the whole thing to pass to charlotte because she is the most aesthetically pleasing

  28. ANALYST says:

If that woman was the ideal match for Prince Casiraghi, he NOT had become a drug addict, alcoholic, smoker pathological, promiscuous, emaciated, sick. That boy lost his way to link up with the cockatoo Colombian greedy. Andrea Casiraghi is poised to personal destruction can not govern well. It’s the end of the Grimaldi dynasty!

  29. PRESS says:

Never saw him happy with the Colombian and lately is a bad mood, health and appearance. No wonder that Andrea Casiraghi would die soon and Santo Domingo was quick to get the throne of Monaco for the ambitious Colombians.
