Iggy Azalea wants nothing to do with Rita Ora’s ‘Lady Marmalade’ remake

Iggy Azalea

This story amuses me because Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora are two sides of the same try-hard coin. Rita tries hard to come off like a badass and prematurely announces her own greatness. Whereas Iggy fights with everyone to look like a badass and continually tells everyone she’s awesome, so they’re a lot alike. And even though they recorded the atrocious “Black Widow” together, it sounds like Iggy and Rita don’t like each other. At least, Iggy is not a fan of Rita.

This particular kertuffle revolves around Rita’s declaration of wanting to re-record “Lady Marmalade” with contemporary pop stars. There’s the original 1974 version with Patti LaBelle on lead vocals, of course, and then in 2002, there was a remake done by Christina Aguilera, Lil’ Kim, Mya, and Pink. Rita really wants to do a third version: “I’m trying to round up the troops – I think it would be me, Miley [Cyrus], Charli XCX – she’d be fun – and Iggy [Azalea].” Can I get a LOL? Miley would make it all about her. She’d be gyrating and licking walls while the other ladies shuffle awkwardly, and then Iggy would drop some ridiculous “rap” at the end. However, Iggy is not at all interested, so of course she publicly tweeted her disdain:

Girlfriend just doesn’t know when to stop. Not many people adore Iggy, but she has become her own worst enemy. She should have ignored the Rita interview, but instead, she had to publicly sound like a jerk about it. That’s Iggy for you, but at least no one can accuse her of not acting like herself.

I want Patti Labelle to tell both women to take a few seats

    • Sarah says:

None of these women have the pipes or singing style to pull this song off… it would be a horrible remake.

    • antipodean says:

Ditto to this. There is, and will only ever be, one Patti Labelle, these wanna bes need to shut their gobs, and have several seats. Such insolence to think they could be a patch on the original.

  2. fashionista says:

Iggy is just nasty in so many ways. Seems she will never turn down the chance to talk $hit; any attention is good attention to some.

  3. Josefa says:

Im not a fan of Rita at all but I don’t think it’s fair to compare her to Iggy. She’s at least a truly good singer and ultimately inoffensive. Iggy is just the worst.

    • Leah says:

Truly good singer? She’s a good singer but she’s quite generic sounding.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

She’s a great singer without the it factor.

The It factor can make an average singer seem infinitely more entertaining and an amazing singer seem otherworldly but without it no matter how talented you are you’re just begging people to look at you.

That’s how I always feel about Rita, she’s just begging folks to look at her.

      • Josefa says:

        @TESE

This. Though I think they are just selling her wrong. They try to sell her as Rihanna with a British accent but she just does not have Ri’s edge. She’d be better off as a more low-profile, inoffensive ballad singer. Think Alicia Keys, but without the songwriting cred.

  4. tifzlan says:

Iggy is a straight up bitch, to be honest. Like, just laugh it off or something? This bitch always has to throw a hissy fit about something or another.

    • Shambles says:

Right?! Like how is that working out for you, being so damn negative about everything and everyone all the time? Take a deep breath. Namas’cray.

    • paolanqar says:

i think that after Rita banged Iggy’s ex boyfriend ( i think she found out about it recently) she wants nothing to do with her.

  5. Rice says:

Makes sense since Iggy’s so busy cancelling tours and spitting out lyrical nonsense. Yeah… no.

  6. Lindy79 says:

Not a fan of either but can someone please tell me who it is that keeps telling Rita Ora she is amazing?

  7. Wentworth says:

Not a Rita fan but really Iggy?

  8. Meatball says:

One tweet or no tweet would hav been fine, but she just has to keep on going. There is no reason to re-record the song, but does Iggy really have anything else to do?

    • Trillion says:

The only way she can stay in the press is this kinda shit. How about she go out and prove she’s not the talent-free wannabe that everyone takes her for?

  9. Bridget says:

Is it so hard to just BE NICE?

  10. Naya says:

You just know Ariana Grande and Jessie J are surely cussing out that b*itch Rita Ora for thinking up this remake business first. And Nicki Minaj will shoot the first person to suggest she reprise Lil Kim’s bit. And Patti is holed up in her mansion ducking all these desparate wannabes.

  11. Neelyo says:

Rita reminds me of a young Sylvia Miles. That’s all I got.

  12. Hannah says:

Iggy dated asap rocky. Rocky outed Rita in his song recently as the woman he cheated on with his ex. I’d say that is why iggy suddenly want nothing to do with Rita.
Rita has a special talent for pissing of people in the music industry.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Someone said above about Iggy not learning her lesson but it works for Rita too. Part of the reason her career hasn’t taken off is because she keeps trying to take shortcuts through famous men and they keep putting her on blast. She’s got such a poor reputation and she’s hitting that territory where it’s just never going to happen.

      • Murra says:

I don’t think she tries to take shortcuts with famous men. I think she just wants to have sex with them and they get mad when she plays them.

  13. paranormalgirl says:

Couldn’t she simply be flattered and pass on it politely? No. She has to be an asshole.

    • Belle says:

Exactly! It’s not like her career is going well enough (or at all) that she can pull this kind of attitude and get away with it. She just hammered another nail in the coffin with those tweets. RIP Iggy’s career.

  14. Skins says:

Rita is just so desperate to make it in the states and it is just not happening

  15. Katydid20 says:

I figured this was just Iggy throwing her name into a nonexistent conversation (like who would honestly want her in that remake?) But she needs to learn how to chill and be nice to someone who actually was thinking of including her – pretty sure no one else in music wants to have anything to do with her right now. She should be grateful for the few that do.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Same, I actually thought it’d be a semi-diss or someone not including her but she was included and still responded that way. Still if it’s true Rita cheated with her ex-boyfriend then I could understand being completely not here for Ora.

  16. QQ says:

Has this Potato Faced Bitch NOT learned to stay off The Nets? or at least let her management Tweet?? why can’t she ever just keep it cute and shut up??

  17. crtb says:

Wasn’t a remake made already? Just how many do we need?

  18. USA says:

I feel like Rita is not going to make it in America unless she dyes her hair back to it’s natural color. There is something inauthentic about her whole image, but she’s a good singer and performer. Better than a lot of people who actually did make it here.

  19. Tacos and TV says:

Hahahaha, oh Iggy, you fool. She’s so amusing in her dumbassness. I kinda like it. Oh, and I think I have made my feelings about this Rita Ora clear. She is just not gonna happen. Her plane will not land. I know she is trying and I give her credit for that, but girl, give it up! She reminds me of chewed gum… worn out. Her look is tired. She needs a rebranding if she is going to try to make it the way she wants to.

  20. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

This is exactly why Iggy doesn’t have a career.

As for why Iggy is so mad at Rita…that’s why Rita doesn’t have a career either. Two women with no self control.

  21. Mixtape says:

I admit, when I heard about Rita’s remake idea, I nearly choked. You’ve got to be pretty C-list to make me, not a Miley fan, think “I’m not so sure Miley will work with y’all.”

That said, even if Iggy thinks it is a bad idea, she should be flattered that Rita wanted to include her. She’s like the mean girl who gets invited to the school dork’s party–rather than privately decline, she has to rip up the invitation in front of everyone.

  22. Murra says:

I think Rita needs a publicist, or a new one. She just says whatever is on her mind, without even thinking. Iggy is a fool. She made Rita’s throw away comment bigger than it needed to be and she dissed the only person in the business who was nice to her.

  23. Otaku fairy says:

I know Nicki probably wouldn’t agree to it (and if she did, it would probably stir up drama between her and Lil Kim), but if there’s gonna be a remake, I’d like to see it with her, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, and Jessie J. Or maybe even Demi Lovato.

  24. Allie May says:

Iggy wastes no time to shoot herself in the foot at every opportunity. She makes terrible mistake after terrible mistake. Sad.
