Melania Trump on The Donald: ‘He’s not Hitler. He wants to help America’

melania dujour

Melania Trump covers the latest issue of DuJour Magazine, and this might be the best interview Melania has done thus far. And I’m saying that as someone who enjoyed Melania’s crazy GQ interview last month. This DuJour piece is even better! Melania comes across as unapologetically elitist, hilariously vapid and politically tone-deaf. Basically, it sounds like she and Donald Trump are perfect for each other. You can read the full piece here (it is long, but totally worth it), and here are some highlights:

She doesn’t drink Starbucks: “I don’t drink Starbucks,” she says. You don’t drink coffee? I ask. “I drink coffee, but I don’t drink Starbucks. My son likes it, the what do you call it? The Frappuccino? He likes that.”

The Clintons’ wedding gift to the Trumps? “I don’t think they sent a gift. Some people didn’t send gifts.”

How she’s been misrepresented in the media: “That I’m shy. I’m not shy. I know what I want, and I’m selective.”

On Chris Matthews’ leering comment about her model-strut: “Unbelievable. That’s what I’m saying! I’m not only a beauty, I’m smart. I have brains. I’m intelligent… I would just say, Men will be men.”

Where she shopped for furniture when she first moved to NYC: “I went to Crate & Barrel. Does that still exist or no?”

She moved in with Trump before they were married: “When I moved here with my husband, we weren’t married yet—so I kept my apartment.”

Meeting Michael Jackson: “I met Michael Jackson. It was here in New York in the Pierre Hotel. He called us, so we went over and we had dinner. Just after dinner, we were chatting on the sofa and my husband went into another room to see some art somebody wanted to show him. And Michael said to me, ‘Hey, when Trump comes back, let’s start kissing so he will be jealous!’ ” They didn’t kiss, she says, “No, no, no. But we were laughing so hard.”

She’s not a famewhore: “I have a life. I go out every day. I bring my son to school. I pick him up. I’m not an attention seeker. I’m not the one who calls paparazzi, ‘I have lunch with the girlfriends, and I’m going to this restaurant.’ I get along [with] the moms at the school pick-up, it’s ‘Hello, how are you?’ But it’s not friends friends. I like quality over quantity.”

Her 10-year-old son doesn’t sleep on the same floor as his parents: “The third floor is Barron’s. It’s much easier that way. For him as well. He has friends over, he has his toys. He has a play date tomorrow and is bringing two friends over. They come here, they go upstairs and they play. They kick a ball, they play with iPads. I don’t allow Xbox before homework is done.”

What happens for immigrants, like Melania, who want to come to the US legally: “The law needs to be changed to help those kind of people. But they can’t just sneak in and be here. That’s what I’m saying. I do have sympathy. I’m a very compassionate person. But don’t sneak in and stay here without papers. We need to follow the law. If the law needs to be different, we need to do that.”

On Louis CK calling Trump “Hitler”: “We know the truth. He’s not Hitler. He wants to help America. He wants to unite people. They think he doesn’t but he does. Even with the Muslims, it’s temporary… Maybe he needs to say it in a softer way. He doesn’t go after religions. He feels like we need to know who’s coming to this country. If not, we don’t have a country. That’s how he feels. We see how he is, and he wants to unite the country and bring people together and bring jobs back.”

On campaigning in Iowa: “It was kind of a fun experience. We stayed in a hotel. It was clean. It was, I think, a Holiday Inn. You do it in a fun way. My husband knows me and how I am. I like beautiful stuff. I live the life. It’s funny when we go and travel. They don’t have five-star hotels there, but you go with it. It was a great experience in Iowa, because we went to an Evangelical church on Sunday. The church we got married in is very different. In Iowa there was a band, there was singing. It was very different, but it was a great experience. Being on the campaign trail and traveling around the country is hard work.”

[From DuJour]

Aren’t these quotes amazing? The Crate & Barrel thing, the way she obviously charmed by the peasants in Iowa, the way she has to mention that it’s hard work on the campaign trail because there aren’t many five-star hotels. What else is there? Her obliviousness to the privilege she had as a white, European model immigrating to the US versus those other people. The fact that she keeps insisting that she’s all about being a stay-at-home mother while her 10-year-old son has an entire floor in Trump Tower! There’s also a lengthy section where Melania tries to convince DuJour that Donald Trump values her ideas and that she’s one of the few people who can really advise him. If you believe that… well, God bless. Update: I misidentified Barron as 7-years-old originally, but he’s 10.

I’ve never heard her talk so I’ve kept up this ideal that she sounds like Derek Zoolander.

    • Abby says:

      Lol!

    • Honey says:

Ha! You are not that far off actually, pout and all.

    • Kitten says:

      LOL.
I think it’s adorable how hard she tries to convince us.

    • Sayrah says:

Lmao! That comment had me laughing into my cereal.

    • MsGoblin says:

I originally read the name of the magazine as “Dour”, which is more appropriate anyway.

    • sara says:

When you are obliged to describe your husband and you come up with “He’s not Hitler”, that pretty much convinces me that he IS Hitler.

And she sounds as vapid and brain dead as I always suspected.

      • tealily says:

Yes! I was thinking, “Well, you didn’t marry someone you think is Hitler then. Good for you?” I hope she used more than that as criteria. (“Being Hitler is my deal-breaker.”)

      • doofus says:

        re: the whole Hitler thing…

the journalist who did the GQ piece is Jewish, and since it was published she’s been facing anti-semitic comments and messages, and has be receiving death threats. calls from homicide clean up companies, calls from cemeteries about plots, calls from coffin companies, etc.

when asked about the threats levied by white supremacists and other various bigoted groups of Drumpf supporters, Mrs. Drumpf’s response was “she provoked them”. as in, she deserved it.

no “it’s disgusting people think that way about other religions and races, and we don’t want that kind of support” or anything of the sort. she outright victim-blamed. Her stance is that Jews shouldn’t provoke anti-semitic people. What. The. EVERLOVING F*CK?

      • BooBooLaRue says:

I have no words that are nice, so I will just cosign the above.

      • almondmilk says:

Wow @Doofus. The fact that she said that in response and it’s getting zero coverage, floors.

Yet I recall the Michelle Obama criticism over a benign remark about she being proud of her country ‘for the first time,’ at how they engaged politically for Barack going on for days and weeks, and of course a federal case was made.

      • Tiffany :) says:

From politifact: “NBC reporter also repeatedly asked Trump what the difference is between a registry for Muslims and the registry for Jews under Nazi Germany, to which Trump only replied, “You tell me.”

        http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2015/nov/24/donald-trumps-comments-database-american-muslims/

      • holly hobby says:

@ Tiffany – Holy Crap. In this day and age? Really? Should we make Muslims wear an identifier too? I just can’t believe this.

      • Megan says:

Sure, Melania. Whatever you say. (Eye Roll)

      • Carol says:

Oh please tell me that is the new bumper sticker: “Donald Trump – He’s Not Hitler.” Is that their new campaign slogan? Yeah, sweetie, I am sure he’s taking all your advice. Bless her heart.

    • LMB says:

      Blue Steel!

    • holly hobby says:

      Nailed it! hahah

    • Winston says:

Haha!! I have heard her either but I was reading the article in the same Zoolander voice!!

    • Nimbolicious says:

This. What a woman of substance. I guess her platform will be shoes. Platform shoes….

  2. Jenns says:

This is what happens when trophy wives are expected to do other things than stand around and look hot.

    • swak says:

And when she gets too old for him, he’ll move on to the next trophy wife.

    • Belle Epoch says:

There is a vile cartoon going around Facebook in which Michelle Obama is portrayed as FLOTUS – a distorted Angry Black Woman with bulging muscles – contrasted with Melania as FLOTUS – drawn as a hot gorgeous celebrity in an evening gown etc. It is so offensive I actually tried to understand how ANYONE could think it made sense, or was a good thing. I guess it’s related to Sarah Palin’s “sex appeal,” but Tundra Barbie likes dead animals and guns. Melania thinks going to a Holiday Inn is camping.

      • swak says:

Thank goodness I have not seen that one on FB. How horrible!

      • tifzlan says:

I’ve seen it. It’s absolutely disgusting. Coincidentally enough, a few scrolls down, i came across Michelle Obama’s recent speech at Tuskegee University’s (i think) commencement. She mentions all the vile, racist things that people have called her and written about her before and since she became FLOTUS. I don’t think they’ll stop anytime soon and it is difficult to have to see, read and hear that ish everyday. But she is such a graceful, classy, intelligent woman and Melania can only dream to be as amazing as Michelle is.

      • Esmom says:

I haven’t seen that either but it depressingly makes sense considering the support Trump has gotten. Substance apparently means nothing to some people.

      • Kitten says:

This makes me want to punch someone or something. How f*cking repulsive. I hate people.

      • Aarika says:

I saw it yesterday. It is beyond offensive. People make me sick.

      • anniefannie says:

One of my favorite Obama quotes applies here…
” When they go low, I go high!”

      • Tiffany :) says:

Let them. It just cements the idea that in Trump world, the visuals of a woman is more important than anything she has done or has to say. We just exist to decorate a man’s world. That way of thinking will hopefully come to bite them in the ass.

      • ClaireB says:

I really admire how classy the Obamas have been with all the racist slime people have been throwing at them. I honestly don’t know how they do it.

    • Apples says:

You bring up a good point – should we ask much from the spouses of the presidential candidates who have never intended to do anything BUT to look nice and keep quiet?

Perhaps, we should hold Trump responsible for dragging this woman, someone he had married while already knowing he was going to run for president in the future into all this.

It doesn’t seem like she has ever aspired to be more than just a model and wife. At least I can give her that.

  3. Lindy79 says:

Im pretty sure Hilter thought he was helping Germany too…

    • lilacflowers says:

      Yep.

    • BendyWindy says:

      Exactly.

    • LA says:

      Exactly.

    • Size Does Matter says:

That was my very first thought.

    • SJO says:

      word

    • Cee says:

So did all those who voted for him. And then he showed his truerer colours and went on a killing rampage while thousands stood silently in the sidelines.

So yes, Melania, please keep talking.

    • Alex says:

      Nailed it

    • Saks says:

This was also my first thought.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      Well said.

    • LAK says:

This is what people keep forgetting about Hitler.

He sold himself on a platform of German pride and German economy which many, many people supported.

He sold the wars as German Pride and kept the population simultaneously ignorant of the negative parts of it AND selling the idea that any problems were caused by the Jews.

This is why History needs to be taught properly in school. Not just Hitler bogeyman, but the Hitler who was able to persuade the German people to willingly vote for him on a popular platform that nonetheless spelled out his extreme ideas.

As that famous saying goes, if you don’t know history, you are in danger of repeating it.

      • Tiffany :) says:

        Great points, LAK.

      • mayamae says:

The Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., does a very good job of explaining Hitler’s rise of power. I spent four hours in that museum and only left because my family members were ready to go.

      • doofus says:

        mayamae, that place is amazing.

I had the good fortune of studying the Holocaust under the (former?) Director of the Museum, who was one of the people who pushed to get it opened, Michael Berenbaum.

the class was called “Theological Implications of the Holocaust” and it was fantastic. depressing as all hell, but fascinating.

    • Greenieweenie says:

For me, the difference is intelligence. I think Hitler was quite calculating and knew exactly what he was doing from the beginning. Whereas I think Trump is stupidly lurching about, saying whatever needs to be said for a vote and completely clueless about where he stands in light of history.

When he replies “you tell me” in response to a question about the difference between his proposals and Hitler’s, Trump really means “tell me. I don’t have a clue.”

I don’t drink Starbucks either! All these stupid posh cafes and their French cakes have ruined me.

    • holly hobby says:

      Uh huh

    • Dangles says:

“Im pretty sure Hilter thought he was helping Germany too…”

Yeah, but he didn’t want to help America.

    • A.Key says:

Mic drop, you nailed it Lindy.

  4. lilacflowers says:

    The Holiday Inn was clean!

    • toni says:

That was the best. You hear that Iowa, your Holiday Inn was clean enough for Melania Trump.

      • Lindy79 says:

Id be getting that quote on a plaque and put on the wall behind reception

      • lilacflowers says:

And she did it in a fun way because there was no beautiful stuff. She likes beautiful stuff. She’s special that way!

      • Kitten says:

Haha…this is going to be an awesome thread.

But seriously, how out of touch is this woman and her husband? But I’m sure Joe The Plumber thinks that he and Trump are one and the same–just two regular dudes who want the best for America, right?

      • THE OG BB says:

Kitten, there are so many Trump supporters popping up around me (lawn signs, bumper stickers) and people really think he is for the working man and he wants to make this some “grand old Christian nation” again. Trump probably recoils and the thought of interacting with these people yet loves their adoration. HIs supporters are being purposely blind to how out of touch and elitist the Trumps truly are.

      • Kitten says:

@ The OG BB- I’m not surprised because he’s had a noticeable jump in the polls as of late. Frightening times for sure.

      • GreenieWeenie says:

@lilacflowers, that’s my favorite part. Everyone else doesn’t have beautiful stuff because they prefer the ugly.

      • ol cranky says:

I’ve actually stayed at that holiday inn and, Melania’s right, it is clean.

that’s about the closest I think I’ll ever come to agreeing with anyone in that family

    • Lilacflowers says:

Why do I think we’ll later learn it was a Hampton Inn or a Sheraton? But hey, it was clean!

    • drnotknowitall says:

I know, right? My eyes fell out of my head.

Plus, I can’t grasp how someone with one child needs 30k sqf living space. Do they even see the kid? What if he falls, can they hear him crying?

      • almondmilk says:

I recall back in 2006 or 2007 him bizarrely going in on Angelina Jolie on an edition of CNN’s Larry King live that I happened to catch. It was weird. Larry didn’t ask him anything about her, at all and he went in like Chelsea Handler does today. Like an old fishwife gossip monger it seemed he needed to downgrade her, her beauty, her humanitarianism, etc. He claimed he knew her dad too, and poopooed that it was awful the way she treated him. Mind you, he didn’t know anything about her family and had never met her.

Then it dawned on me. Trump’s mail order bride/model/gold digger had given birth earlier in the year and Angelina was pregnant with Shiloh and of course she and Brad were nuclear reactor hot with the media breathlessly feverishly following their every eye twitch. Trump and the trophy wife Melaise had been virtually ignored, not because of Brangelina, but because no one cared.

Yet for narcissistic Trump, I think he saw that as Brangelina stealing THEIR rightful spotlight. Hahaha

I truly believe that’s why he attacked Angelina on Larry King.

      • GreenieWeenie says:

@almondmilk, brilliant speculation, that is exactly the level Trump is operating at. Everyone gives this walking Cheeto way too much credibility.

    • ab says:

lol! that was the best part of this whole interview. I would have loved to have seen the look on her face when she walked into her room at the holiday inn.

  5. SloaneY says:

I would rather vomit into my own skull and drink it than for her to be my First Lady.

    • Esmom says:

LMAO. Sigh. I know what you mean. Michelle Obama she ain’t.

      • Dlo says:

Think I’ll take bill Clinton for first lady ? Or whatever title he gets over this unbelievable person in this article. Yikes can’t say anything nice about this

    • Kitten says:

She’s not just beautiful, she’s INTELLIGENT too!

She also thinks if she keep repeating that then maybe people will start to believe it.

      • Susan says:

I’ve always had a personal rule of thumb that whenever someone ‘tells’ me they are intelligent….it automatically means they are not.

  6. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I find her shallow, conceited, stupid and revolting. I’m not surprised, but also not pleased that we will have to hear her little tidbits about life in the future. I can’t imagine she will be a very big hit with Donald’s crowd, but what do I know? I never thought he’d get this far.

    • Naya says:

I don’t know, his crowd seem to love her. She is breathing confirmation that their god is a “true alpha male”. It makes him all the more qualified to turn the presumably effete US back into a roaring bastion of masculinity at which the rest of the world will tremble. They fully approve of his trophy wifing.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Oh. Nuts. I was hoping they would hate her, but you’re probably exactly right.

      • Kitten says:

ITA Naya-they’re all metaphorically fist-bumping Trump. She’s part of that lifestyle that they all dream of….

      • THE OG BB says:

Agreed. They see an Eastern European former model trophy wife as validation that Trump is truly an alpha male, and they choose to ignore her out of touch elitism. His supporters love her and often use Melania to speak negatively about Michelle Obama.

      • Tourmaline says:

Exactly, it just reinforces his manliness with his target audience that he has a “hot model” wife.

      • Betsy says:

See, and I would objects on he idea of an orange, cotton-candy haired gremlin as anything other than a zeta male. Just gross.

      • Jane.fr says:

Well the fact is, the rest of the world does tremble, just thinking that the worst case scenario could actually happen

  7. Patricia says:

Three seven year old boys playing alone with an entire floor to themselves… What could go wrong?! Hahaha she’s ridiculous.

    • Esmom says:

But they don’t get to play Xbox before homework is done. She is ON it.

      • swak says:

But they get to play with I-pads.

      • lilacflowers says:

Because there are no games available on Ipads. Or porn. There’s no porn available on an ipad. So it is a good idea to let your seven year old and his pals play with ipads unsupervised on their own floor of a New York City high rise.

      • Esmom says:

Yeah, I caught the iPad thing, apparently she considers it more edu-ma-cational than the Xbox, I’m guessing because presumably the kids use them school. Dumbass.

    • lilacflowers says:

In a high rise? Why? What could possibly happen?

  8. SloaneY says:

Her 7 year old son has his own floor and drinks frappuchinos? That’s great parenting. I’m surprised she deigns to walk amongst the other pleb moms on the school run.

    • Esmom says:

She barely does. She was quick to say they aren’t “friends friends.” What an effing tool.

I kinda love how unflattering that cover shot is.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Yes, she prefers quality over quantity. Obviously, they don’t meet her standards of quality. Barf.

      • Aussie girl says:

        Yes but they are clean.

      • Kitten says:

Well, they’re cleaner than the Iowa Holiday Inn, but still not quite clean enough for her.

      • THE OG BB says:

She was coming dangerously close to camel toeing it in that cover shot. And Trump looks like Jabba the Hut in the background.

    • Dena says:

      Yours don’t?😉

      • SloaneY says:

Not so much. I do have a 7 year old son. He does have his own room, but mainly uses it just to sleep. And he doesn’t even drink soda! But, I’m a commoner, what would I know?

      • Betsy says:

Both of my well under-10 kids enjoy coffee, and for a few more weeks even have their own rooms. We’re serious money around Betsy Way, I tell you. 🙂

    • SloaneY says:

Oh, so he’s 10. Still doesn’t make it much better.

    • Dani says:

I don’t see the big issue with fraps. You can get them decaf. Kids love them. My 3 year old does, too. I don’t give her the cup and let her go to town but it’s not uncommon where I am for kids to like them and have them.

      • doofus says:

consider, though, that it’s not JUST the caffeine…they are also loaded with sugar. one of their frap flavors (can’t remember which one…”Sticky Bun” or something like that, maybe?…) has over 20 teaspoons of sugar.

      • SloaneY says:

What doofus said. We got to Starbucks maybe once a month, and my kid is pleased as punch to get an apple juice. He has a pretty healthy diet and I’d like to keep it that way for as long as possible.

      • Heat says:

My 12 year old daughter begged me to let her try a Starbucks frap, because all of her friends were getting them. So, I let her have one, a decaf one…and had to peel her off the wall later. I decided to try a few sips. There was so much sugar in it, I felt my heart racing in my chest!

      • GreenieWeenie says:

Everything on the drinks menu apart from basic coffee/espresso is *loaded* with sugar. Ages ago, I worked at Starbucks and it was so funny at times to see these uptight women come in decked out in expensive workout clothes only to order a quad venti white mocha. “The extra espresso shots reduce the calorie content, right?” Um, yeah, sure, from 10,000 calories per cup to 9,050 and you still get 580g of sugar.

Also fat. One day I realized the coffee cake I was eating every single day (sometimes twice a day) actually had 52g of fat in a single slice. That’s not an exaggeration.

  9. Abby says:

This is incredible. Shaking my head.

And I (was) a republican. Not this election. I’m voting for nobody at this point.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I’m also a big fan of nobody.

    • Brittney says:

I know how you feel, but I really hope you change your mind about not voting… there are rights and lives at stake, and I don’t want to forget that. Hilary’s policies will cause suffering too, but at this point it feels too privileged to pretend I can opt out of the process. No vote, if he wins, is a vote allowing it.

      • sara says:

I feel so bad for you guys (I’m Canadian and we have Justin Trudeau!). One of your pundits said that this election, you guys will be choosing which live bug you want to eat.

      • Abby says:

Oh I agree, this election is really important. I just have no candidate I can stand behind. I like Bernie as a person, but his political stance is just so so far away from what I would want. I might go for a 3rd party – I’m looking into it. But really that’s throwing my vote for Hillary. I just cannot go into a voting booth and vote for trump. All the things he’s said and done–i can’t support that kind of person. But Hillary, I can’t stand behind her either. It’s really disheartening this election.

    • SydneySnider says:

I’m an atheist, but feel that poor America could do with even my prayers…

I’m also not American, but my favourite American guy (I don’t idolise) wrote the following essay, which I hope you’ll read, on voting:

      http://ggraffin.tripod.com/essay.htm

    • Susan says:

I’m struggling with choosing to vote in this election too. But not voting feels like a knife in the back of America too. A wise old friend said to me, “well, view this as if you have to hire someone for a short term (aka one term haha) job, which candidate would do the least damage and has the most experience handling the situations the job calls for?

  10. Payapa says:

    Wow.

  11. Danielle says:

“Vote for trump! He’s not hitler!” That’s not much of a rallying cry. For what it’s worth, I think hitler wanted to help germany. We all know how that turned out…

  12. lilacflowers says:

Can’t wait until the cookie recipe contest between Melania and Bill.

    • SloaneY says:

Lol. Bill would get an intern to bake his, and Melania would get “the help” to bake hers.

I bet Bill could actually bake though.

      • lilacflowers says:

I bet Bill would actually try, spill flour all over himself and the kitchen, laugh at his mistakes, and try again. Melania would take one look at the raw ingredients, proclaim it “unclean” and run.

      • Kitten says:

Bill’s cookies will def. be cream-filled.

      • SloaneY says:

        Ewwwe kitten. Just…ewwwwe.

    • MeAnnWhines says:

Bill would be like “hey Melania let me help you with those cookies” in his Bill voice & Bill speech!

  13. Lambda says:

I laughed SO hard reading this. I mean, in Iowa there’s no 5-star hotels, but she suffered through. She’s a trophy wife, and that’s OK, but to think she could follow the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt, yeah, I’m laughing some more.

      Aaahh…what a trouper!

    • This reads like a Dominic Dunne novel….typical Upper East Side banter, where they make sure to drop into conversation that they have “no idea if Crate & Barrel still exists” (because they have “people” to buy stuff for them from Christies). I always notice that kind of speech in The Donald’s rhetoric as well. When someone disagrees with him or criticises his non-policies, he always starts with “I don’t know him”. Because on the upper East side, the only people wirth knowing are other rich whites with privilege. And I believe there are two separate Dominic Dunne novels with titles that both could be formed from that last sentence I wrote.

      • hmmm says:

I love this. You’re making me miss Dominick beyond words! This is the perfect election for him.

    • Chrissy says:

Eleanor Roosevelt is rolling over in her grave!

      • Betsy says:

“Goodnight, Mrs. Roosevelt, wherever you are,” could be easily solved. There can’t be that many five star hotels around the world.

      • isabelle says:

Our last 2 first ladies have been great. Not a fan of George Bush but really liked Laura & of course Michelle. Her possibly following them is laughable.

  14. LuluPolly says:

Try to imagine Michelle Obama saying any of this, regardless of your politics. How could this woman possibly, in any way whatsoever, represent Americans? She gives not one fraction of a thought to our daily, peasanty lives. We are nameless, faceless, dreamless. Trump, himself, has a better handle on reality.

    • Tiffany says:

She never had aspirations to be anything but a trophy wife. She is a vapid individual who has her mansion and Oompa’s money to comfort her. She did not bank of a political future. Let her keep talking. If they think it is safe now that he has the nomination, let her keep talking.

      • LuluPolly says:

        Yes to everything you wrote.

      • Lilacflowers says:

I can’t wait until her speech at the convention

      • isabelle says:

Which OK, if that is seriously what you want out of life and the husband knows you are a gold digger. However, it isn’t first lady material or a good representative of America. The 1st lady is another ambassador of America. She can’t just be side candy.

    • Kitten says:

      IKR?

Sigh. I will miss the best FLOTUS we’ve ever had so damn much.

      • Tiffany :) says:

Me too. I really look up to her, she is inspiring in her strength (emotional and physical).

    • paranormalgirl says:

I’ve always liked Michelle Obama much more than her husband and think she’s a good role model for strong, smart, independent women. Melania Trump is a role model for…. nah, I can’t even pretend she’s any kind of a role model.

      • SloaneY says:

She’s a role model for money hungry models! 😀

      • Kitten says:

Yes Trophy Wives everywhere will aim higher because of Melanie Trump.

      • paranormalgirl says:

There’s always that. LOL. I just told my husband that we have to add another floor onto the house for the kids. He’s looking into it.

  15. paolanqar says:

To me, the fact that she goes to bed with him every night is proof of her brain incapability so I will not listen to anything she says.

    • I have a feeling they have their own rooms, perhaps their own floors. I think she is a trophy in the true sense of the word, only brought out when he feels the need to show her off.

      • paolanqar says:

She seems really dumb but I guess no intelligent woman would ever spend time with him if it wasn’t for lack of intelligence or drive towards a wealthy lifestyle.

      • Interesting point about her intelligence or lack thereof. She’s probably gotten by on her looks for so long, she’s never made the effort to learn much of anything.

      • Christin says:

I think it’s a complete business arrangement, which is why she’s lasted this long.

  16. Goldie says:

I think her son is actually 10, not 7. It’s still weird that he has his own floor, although I’m sure he has a full time nanny who stays up there with him.

Other than that, I don’t even know what to say about this interview. She’s so unbelievably out of touch.

  17. The Original G says:

As a Canadian, I’ve got no interest in supporting a Trump presidency. But I can’t find shading his wife much of a substantive rebuttal for his candidacy.

    • I felt that way too until she opened her mouth and the familiar stench of “us and them” privilege spewed forth. You need to be a little smarter than that if you’re going to be FLOTUS, or at least hire someone who has a clue and listen to them.

    • cd3 says:

I’m in the same boat Original G… don’t really see what this accomplishes.

There’s A LOT of nasty, judgy commentary being thrown at Melania in this thread – everything from her face (fake! plastic! mannish! squinty!), body (not what it used to be!), style (tacky!), parenting (clueless!), beverage choices (FRAPPUCCINOS – MY GOD THE HORROR), skin color (too orange!), intelligence (she’s an idiot! gold digger!) etc.

It seems to me that these kind of comments would attract a good thrashing and accusations of body shaming, judgy mommy shaming, mean girling etc on other threads where the recipient is popular among the commentators on this blog. Yet when it’s someone that’s unpopular, it’s no holds barred.

So either you are a person that tries not to judge, or body shame, or dictate others’ lifestyles and parenting, etc… or your are only that type of person when it suits you.

      • Icantremember says:

Amen, sister. There is a very vapid sheepishness on display here. She may be a caricature, as he may, but America needs a no bs executive. I don’t care about feelings. We have had far too much of that. Far too much.

    • The Original G says:

Thanks for the shout out. I needed it, honestly.

    • Dinah says:

Interesting because I’ve always heard the best way to judge someone’s character is by the company he chooses to keep. Men who marry intelligent, strong women impress me as secure. Men who marry women half their age with eggs for membranes impress me as insecure and potential misogynists (depending on the circumstances). Donald Trump hates women, but has to have one around so his means justify his ends. I ignore him because, more likely than not, he’s a ringer for Hillary. No one has mentioned Melania’s secretive past? High class call girl? That one has been around for years. Where she’s from, there is a political labrynth to crawl through. I believe the hooker-turned-model rumours may carry weight. They sound about right.

  18. Zapp Brannigan says:

“I’m not only a beauty, I’m smart. I have brains. I’m intelligent” Melania sweetheart take a look at who you married and rethink your stance on your intelligence.

  19. Ms Vogue says:

Why oh why are they both orange…there is no accounting for bad taste!

    • doofus says:

I cannot understand how Drumpf looks in the mirror and thinks that orange paint looks good. add to that the white circles around his eyes and it only makes it worse.

      • Green_Eyes says:

Thank you! I can’t help but wonder how anyone would find a bright orange face w/ white out eyes, orange dyed fuzzy catepillars for eye brows, a streaky under chin, & stark white neck & hands look attractive? Wealth or no wealth it looks cheap & tacky. It really looks like he took a bath & forgot to wash his face like most lil boys do. Surly a staff member or family member (if not Donald himself) has noticed how stark & trashy it comes off especially on television. I found it ironic in one interview lquite a while ago, he made fun of all the male candidates & make debate moderators for going into hair & makeup to primo & were actually wearing makeup on camera. They may have had makeup on, but iit was not really noticible. The orange radiating from Trump’s face was so bright it it completely overshadowed any makeup anyone (male or female) had on. Yet the man went on a tirade as to how they were all less manly men. Clueless!

    • Dinah says:

      Orange is the new clean.

  20. Amelie says:

Melanie,I’m sure, is being told to do these interviews by the campaign PR people. My sense is that she is doing so reluctantly. Her English is not as strong as it could it and I think that contributes to her being misunderstood.

I think part of the antipathy I see coming her way, is based on the fact that she & Donald are wealthy. Having worked as a nanny for wealthy families while I was in grad school, I am familiar with how different their and their children’s lifestyles can be from the rest of us. I once worked for a family where the mom didn’t work, so she had ample free time. Anyway, rather than do the shopping, she called the grocer with a list. They then delivered the groceries AND put things away in the cupboards!

Although these lifestyles are different from mine, I don’t dislike people based on it. Wealth can make life just as difficult as easy.

    • SloaneY says:

I don’t dislike people with money. I dislike people who think they are better than everyone else simply because they have money.

    • Cee says:

Just because English is not her first language does not mean she does not speak it fluently enough to be unable to get her point across. This is her. Those are her thoughts and ideas. She is not being missunderstood because of her English. She married an anti-inmigrant American, and for all intent and purposes, she over-assimilated into her new culture and country; she owns the language.

    • Jayna says:

I don’t begrudge them being wealthy. I doubt most of the wealthy stars that are beloved on here ever deign to set foot in a grocery store or cook. And their homes are filled with nannies and a cook, maids, gardeners, and assistants. But those stars still come off relatable in other ways, I guess.

    • Esmom says:

Your comment seems very disingenuous. First of all, I don’t think you can rationalize what she says as being a language barrier problem. Secondly, I don’t think Trump’s wealth is where the antipathy comes from. There are plenty of extremely wealthy people who actually care about humanity and are working for the greater good. I would never categorize Trump as one of them.

    • Amelie says:

      et al:
I would not be surprised if a long dog pile list doesn’t result in response my post. I am not here to defend Melania; I just offered an observation. I have posted in other threads on this site, that Melania would need to tone down her dress etc if she were First Lady. She is flamboyant in her appearance. What is more difficult to change is that she has a hard look to her face and an accent. I have seen video clips of her and she does not exude warmth, her English is halting and she seems uncomfortable with doing interviews. The facts that are available show that she appears to be a good parent, continues to be independent by maintaining her own business and has close family ties (her parents live in the same building and she appears to get along with the extended family of Donald). I haven’t seen her going on pap walks in designer duds so far…my gut feeling on Melania is that she would not welcome the role of First Lady.

  21. Nancy says:

The gall of her even breathing a word on Chris Matthew’s comments when there’s never been a woman yet safe from Trump’s insults on a women’s look, intelligence anything else he can attack her on. Immigration, she is just flipping lucky, sitting atop of her throne the third wife and second trophy on her husband’s shelf. She’s reading her script in her designer duds but doesn’t have a clue. She wants to be the First Lady of the Free World, I think not. Encourage your man to build another building, or perhaps another reality show, his reality is not in the White House.

    • Kitten says:

      YES, Nancy. Preach!

    • Esmom says:

Amen, Nancy. Truly she doesn’t seem to have a single quality — not even curiosity — that would bring anything to the White House. Other than a bit of (tacky and unnecessary) window dressing.

  22. Green Is Good says:

I’d read the whole piece, but I’m afraid I’d lose IQ points. She is an empty-headed bimbo.

Isn’t it round about time Trump trades her in for a younger model?

    • He can’t anytime soon, family values and all that.

    • Tiffany says:

So the reporter was shown the same exit as the help. Oh, that article was glorious.

And wasn’t Ivana around that age when he started fooling around with Marla.

    • nicole says:

Yes, I was thinking the same thing, she is about 45 now, thats pretty old for trophy wives, although he cant do anything about it now.

  23. BearcatLawyer says:

Re: her comments on immigration – Sit down and take a seat, Melania. It is mighty rich of her to say the immigration laws need to be obeyed when she violated them repeatedly before she got a green card.

Melania is on the record discussing how she would come to the US to model and return home to Slovenia before her 90 days expired. There is just one little tiny problem with her statements: there never has been a 90 day temporary nonimmigrant work visa for fashion models.

Melania used the Visa Waiver Program – now called ESTA – to travel to the US multiple times for modeling jobs. The VWP/ESTA allows visitors from certain countries to travel to the US visa-free for up to 90 days for touristic, medical, or business purposes. Only certain business activities are permissible though, like attending meetings or conferences, participating in litigation, overseeing the purchase or delivery of equipment, etc. The person must also be employed and paid overseas for any time spent in the US for these limited business trips. A model is simply not allowed to use the VWP to work in the US. Instead, agencies are supposed to apply for H-1B or O-1 or in some cases P visas if they wish to book jobs for a model in the US.

So if she truly believes the immigration laws must be respected, she should have been deported years ago. She also should have admitted her fraudulent use of the VWP and been forced to apply for a waiver of inadmissibility to get her green card. But there seemingly are quite different rules for the 1%.

    • Tourmaline says:

Thank you for this BearcatLawyer. Very interesting indeed.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

@BearcatLawyer, I love your mind! Thank you for this information.

    • Amelie says:

      @BearcatLawyer:

I have a question for you as I have noticed your various posts on immigration issues…I’m just curious re: travel and visas for individuals whose home country was communist at the time of their travel. Was there any special scrutiny? The reason I ask is that per Melania’s bio, she started modeling at 16–she was possibly traveling for her work prior to the dissolution of the communist regime in Slovakia, so wouldn’t these individuals have been screened more thoroughly than travelers from non communist countries? Wouldn’t an inappropriate visa have been discovered by the border screeners? And why would the U.S. continue to approve an inappropriate visa for her? Thanks much.

      • BearcatLawyer says:

@Amelie – She is from Slovenia. Slovenia became an independent republic in 1990. While she may have started modeling in Europe when she was 16, but it is unclear exactly when she started modeling in the U.S.

In any event, the Visa Waiver Program allowed citizens of Slovenia to travel WITHOUT a visa to the U.S. so she never applied for a B-1/B-2 (visitor for business/tourism) visa at the U.S. consulate in Slovenia. Theoretically the INS officers at her port of entry into the U.S. could have stopped her from entering if they thought she was travelling here too frequently or abusing the VWP somehow, but in her interviews she admits that she would come to the U.S., stay for nearly the full 90 day authorized period and work as a model, return home to Slovenia, stay there for a couple months, and then fly back to the U.S. to repeat the process. INS officers are human; they probably did not ask a pretty girl too many questions before allowing her in. Even so, her statements about how she “used” the U.S. immigration system to her advantage tend to suggest that even if an INS officer had asked her why she was coming to the U.S. every few months and staying for nearly the maximum 90 days, she knew better than to say that she was working here without authorization. She knew how to answer their questions so she would be assured of getting in, which would have been critical since under the VWP rules, if she were ever REFUSED entry to the U.S., she would have banned from ever using the VWP again.

      • Amelie says:

        @BearcatLawyer:
Thanks for your response. With the way these things go, I can guess that if there is something amiss with her entry to the country, campaign operatives will find it and release it.

  24. Soprana says:

Google early modeling photos of her. You’d be shocked it’s the same person.

    • BooBooLaRue says:

Wow, amazing! She used to be actually quite attractive.

    • Christin says:

She looked different just a few years ago, when she had her line of jewelry and watches on a shopping channel.

  25. Brittney says:

Compare her comments and perspective and lifestyle to another famous, wealthy woman who recently criticized her husband: Angelina Jolie.

The difference is stark, and it shows the enormity of waste that comes with the Trumps’ wealth and “power”. He uses the platform for hatred and bigotry and self-aggrandizing; his wife, despite being an immigrant herself, uses it for greed and elitism and stays completely clueless.

We need more Angelinas, working to even inequality and better understand others, and far fewer Trumps, happy to coast at the top no matter who suffers. The whole world would benefit from our country shifting toward humility and away from people like the Drumpfs. Instead we’ve let them get this close to the White House.

    • wolfpup says:

It seems insane that a man like Donald could attempt to access the kind of power that comes with the White House. One of Donald’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t seem to understand that freedom in America rests upon every single soul’s access to that. Whenever Civil rights have brought justice to some, those rights have naturally extended to all other groups (for example, women, as well as all other minorities have profited enormously from the Civil Rights Movement). Many of his statements have been about removing these rights from some of our citizens – like Muslims. This would make all of us vulnerable to the same kind of abuses. What kind of man is this who speaks so lightly of our Constitutional equities? His delight in power is freakin’ diabolical.

      • Esmom says:

Exactly. The thing is I don’t think he even really had Presidential aspirations, as Obama said he was trying to get some publicity for his hotels and this monster of a campaign just took off. So I guess it’s hard to expect someone who did this on sort of a lark to have what it really takes for the office, or even a little bit of what it takes for the office. It’s beyond frightening. Especially as people who disavowed him so recently are finding a way to rationalize their support of him now.

      • doofus says:

“Especially as people who disavowed him so recently are finding a way to rationalize their support of him now.”

this is what I don’t understand. do these people not realize that their previous comments about Drumpf are out there for all to see, for all eternity? I have to give credit to people like Cruz, Rubio and Kasich (barf, can’t believe I’m saying this) because at least they’re sticking to their guns about Drumpf not being qualified and being a pretty terrible person. Boehner, too.

Christie, for one, said some pretty damaging things about Drumpf and now he’s Drumpf’s biggest cheerleader. and this is something that disgusts me…you’ll support a total bigoted, misogynistic buffoon if he represents your party because you care more about winning and holding onto power than you do about the good of the country. Be bigger than your party, republicans. HRC may not be (IS not) the best we can get, but she’s worlds better than Drumpf would be for our future.

  26. Mar says:

Micheal Jackson wanted to make out with her?????

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Yeah that part sounded fake as hell, that wasn’t MJ, she wasn’t a close friend and he wouldn’t have suggested that.

  27. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

…So the mail order bride produced a bunch of quotes that show she is absolutely oblivious to everything around her that doesn’t start or end with Trump’s allowance.

So many gems to go over but my favorite is probably her immigration comments. Not all of us have a rich orange sugar daddy we can sleep with in exchange for citizenship Melania. I know far too many people who chose to do things legally and bring their families the ‘right’ way who are going on in 10+ years of waiting and fighting. Go get stuffed lady.

  28. Lilacflowers says:

I checked Crate @ Barrel’s website. They’re still in business but don’t stock any tacky, gold-plated kitchenware so I understand why Melania was confused

  29. wolfie88 says:

Yeah I’m sure Hitler wanted to unite the German people too… then it got twisted and evil!

  30. Rhiley says:

Good question, Does Crate and Barrel still exist?

Yup. We have one here in Beverly Hills – prime real estate on Beverly Drive.

  31. Jayna says:

What a trooper she is, mixing with the peons and suffering through staying at, gasp, Holiday Inns.

  32. Elosaurus says:

This woman is awful! Her answers are a huge pile of WTF is going on in your head? I guess i shouldn’t be so surprised since she didn’t let herself grow into a better person and only seeks luxury and whatever else being Trump’s wife brings.

  33. Jaded says:

Sure Melania you vapid bag of air…Trump’s not Hitler…he’s the second coming of Beelzebub. An orange one with a hamster on his head.

    Terrific.

    Our own Eva Braun.

  35. DiamondGirl says:

I’m not a fan at all of the Trumps but really, how many of us would choose a Holiday Inn in Iowa for a vacation or even a business trip?

My only plus on the Trump side is that at least he wiped the fanatical Tea Party religious psychos off the field.

  36. FingerBinger says:

Nancy Reagan had the say no to drugs. Laura Bush had education. Michelle Obama’s causes are women’s issues and healthy eating. As first lady what could Melania Trump be an advocate for? I don’t see her taking on any social issues.

  37. Apples says:

She doesn’t come off very well here. In her earlier interviews at least she appeared poised and intelligent. Like most European women she appeared to have a lot of common sense. Now she just seems vapid and not very smart. Why would she say that about Holliday Inn? Anyone with some brain knows it sounds extremely elitist and out of touch with reality.

    • Dingding says:

She ain’t no pr genius when it comes to hubby and politics.
Sometimes I really think it is the Donald’s fault. I doubt he suggested to her she should something to improve her education. It doesn’t have to be full-time university studies but a little bit of evening classes or similar?

      • Apples says:

I’m surprised at her language skills given she’s been in the country for over twenty years continuously. Not everyone should become a newscast reporter but she speaks in very simple, often broken sentences and makes such basic mistakes it’s just strange.

      • Triple Cardinal says:

She attended a technical school and then entered college in Slovenia. She was aiming for a degree in architecture, but dropped out after one year.

It was easier to pout in photos in America.

      • swak says:

@apples, I wonder how much of that her language skills are an act when she talks to the public? Just to prove how much Trump is okay with immigrants.

      • Dingding says:

        @ swak

Trump is okay with immigrants who look like supermodel / playboy bunnies and who speak in simple, often broken sentences and who have to completely rely on sugar daddy figures like Trump himself.
        Well that is my guess.

      • Dinah says:

One of year of college means she came nowhere near a degree in architecture. That reminds me of Cindy Crawford claiming she was studying engineering (electrical or mechanical?) during her first year in college.

  38. Dingding says:

    1. Child is too young for drinking caffeine as in frappuccino.

    2. Trump wants to help the top 10% of America and especially himself and his family and his friends.

    3. Melania: ” He [Trump] wants to unite people. They think he doesn’t but he does. Even with the Muslims, it’s temporary… Maybe he needs to say it in a softer way. He doesn’t go after religions. …”

So basically Melania Trump says that Trump doesn’t mean what he says or at least he doesn’t mean what he says for long. And he might say different things on the same matter after all “it’s temporary”. Interesting. But at least honest.

Melania: ” On campaigning in Iowa: “It was kind of a fun experience. We stayed in a hotel. It was clean. It was, I think, a Holiday Inn. You do it in a fun way. My husband knows me and how I am. I like beautiful stuff. I live the life. It’s funny when we go and travel. They don’t have five-star hotels there, but you go with it. … ”

Well, I wouldn’t call this elitist because she was a good sport about staying in a lesser hotel. She doesn’t seem to be a bitch. But she is a spoilt rich man’s kitten …

    • Esmom says:

Agree on everything you said except that she wasn’t a good sport about staying at a lesser hotel. She literally had no other choice, unless she wanted to sleep in the limo.

      • kanyekardashian says:

No, she had a choice. Don’t forget Donald has a private 747 he takes everywhere. Does anyone have any doubt at all that he has that thing decked out like Air Force One so it could make him feel like he’s president already? I bet there are beds in there, if not hotel rooms.

      • Dingding says:

She could have gotten for a luxury trailer like for A-list actors at movie sets … she did stay in that hotel and she didn’t talk too much crap about it.
However I do shudder to think that she might become the first lady. Oh dear. She would bling up the White House for sure.

I guess her statement concerning her love for beautiful things is supposed to make her sound sophisticated and cultivated?

Yes, she is just not good at PR although she probably thinks she is excellent. Reminds me of someone…

  41. Assf says:

Yes she is rich. So what? Her comments are misinterpreted she speaks and thinks like most europeans. Europeans are rule followers no matter how stupid a rule is. Im from Slovakia, and that is how people are. Theres been too many wars and oppression by governments in past that people are just used to never stepping out of line.

    • Dingding says:

      @ Assf

Europeans follow rules that make sense to them. Golden Rule kind of thing.
Whereas Americans seem to think that rules and laws just prevent them from doing whatever they like. No Golden Rule there.

Do not confuse the recent right wing shift in Europe with following rules. The oppression is very real and I would like to see any American behaving “freely” in countries like Hungary under their current leader Victor Orban. The problem is the right wing shift in politics and the financial crisis as well as the troubles following certain wars in the middle east and in Serbia/Bosnia/Croatia and the independence of Kosovo are to blame.

    • Apples says:

@Assf – perhaps you mean Eastern Europeans and people from Central Europe? My boyfriend is French and one thing he keeps complaining about is how obedient Americans, following the rules. Nothing like back in Europe, I always assumed.

    • nicole says:

I agree, she is starting to resemble the ‘cat lady’ joycelyn Wilderstein , I think thats her name, her eyes are very strange looking, and she is very hard faced looking, looks a bit like Caitlyn Jenner in some photos I have seen of her.

  45. ClaireB says:

I very much dislike it when people criticize a woman for looking masculine, since we can’t help the faces and bodies we’re born with. (Especially with that nasty Michelle/Melania cartoon going around.) But with all Trump’s money to buy plastic surgery, that’s what Melania chose to look like? She looks like an alien masquerading as a man.

Entitled and out of touch? And here I was thinking that was the American Dream. You’re all a bunch of commies. 😀

  47. sauvage says:

I swear, I have less plastic in my tupperware drawer than she has in her face.

  48. qtpi says:

If he really wants to win I don’t think he would be letting her do these interviews. Is this going to help with the women vote?!?

  49. MI6 says:

    …help America do what? Implode?!
    Please God not this.
I taking all my savings and moving to London if this f*ckwad gets elected.

    • Amelie says:

      @MI6:
If you like the Berkshire area, I hear there is a house for sale next to George & Amal’s.

  50. Guesto says:

Oh America and celebitchy. The fact you’re giving her this attention and are happy to debate what she says kind of breaks my heart a bit.

This is why Trump is where he currently and horrifyingly is, because you gave and continue to give him attention.

    • Kitten says:

Yes Trump is where he is because of a celebrity blog and its commenters.
That, and other wide-reaching fallacies and oversimplifications.

    • Josefina says:

And they MUST pay attention because others are giving their actual votes. Now more than ever people must talk.

  51. Veronica says:

Eh, her comments on immigration aren’t as bad as I expected. Privileged, yes, but she at least acknowledges that the laws could be improved.

As for the Hitler comment…it’s her husband, what do you expect her to say? I was actually surprised she went as far as saying he could be “softer” on the issue. I don’t expect someone like her to understand the nuances of what Arendt called “the banality of evil.”

  52. Kilo Tango says:

I am enjoying the political debate and the awesome shade being throw here but may I lower the tone? Can we just talk about how in the bottom photo Trumpingtons hand is A TOTALLY DIFFERENT COLOUR to his face?

I don’t want to make anyone vomit but I wonder what he looks like topless? Do you think they (I assume he has people for this) rub the fake bake onto this chest and go for an ombré effect or just give up around the jowl line?

  53. Josefina says:

“Unbelievable. That’s what I’m saying! I’m not only a beauty, I’m smart. I have brains. I’m intelligent… I would just say, Men will be men.”
    – Melania Trump, First Lady of the United States

    I feel for you, americans.

  54. Mar says:

This interview is the gift that keeps on giving.
I read this post at 8am and now at 4:35pm I am even more amused.
Imagine 4 ( or 8) years of this?????

  55. Birdy says:

She’s so plastic she can’t move her face! Barf go away and take orange dump wit you.

  56. Marianne says:

First of all, Hitler did what he did because he thought it was helping his country.

Secondly, why are they both so orange?

  57. Daisyfly says:

“It was a great experience in Iowa, because we went to an Evangelical church on Sunday. The church we got married in is very different.”

So the last time she was in a church was when she got married? Oh yeah, that’ll court the evangelical vote.

  58. MFM008 says:

Theres a problem when you have to defend someone from being Hitler.

  59. Ruyana says:

Melania has to say nice things about Donald. He’s her paycheck.

  60. isabelle says:

Her English really isn’t very good. Its why her sentences are so selective and short. Probably why they also try to keep her away from the microphone.

  61. miasys says:

    “He’s not Hitler.”
Seriously, girl? That’s the best you can do? Not exactly a ringing endorsement from a loving wife, is it?
These vapid orange twits scare the bejesus out of me. The people who would vote for them scare me even more.

  62. Jojo says:

I’m sure the Iowa Holiday inn was clean. Iowa has one of the highest High school graduation rates in the nation. If you get a chance, Google “Iowa nice”.

  63. aenflex says:

Everyone talking about how idiotic Trump and co. are.
No one really mentioning the sad state of Americans, that he will be the GOP nom and odds are will win the election.

  64. A.Key says:

How did America go from Obama to THIS?????

I mean what the hell happened?!!?

I’m cringing and I’m not American.

God help us all if he wins.

And what kind of a country is the US if half the people actually support a person like Trump??
