Zayn Malik loves tattoos. He already has a checkered flag, a pistol, multiple animals and a lovely but probably regrettable tattoo of his now ex-fiancée Perrie Edwards’ face. He even gets pretend tattoos on his face to promote his album. However, his newest tattoo is very cool. It’s a lightsaber with UV ink that only shows up under blacklight:
I choose to ignore the fact that it’s his middle finger and he is flipping me off because 1) I still think it’s cool and 2) I probably deserve it. This latest inking is by New York tattoo artist Jon Boy, who also did Justin Bieber’s itty-bitty eye cross tattoo.
The Force is strong with Zayn Malik!
The 23-year-old pop star and former One Direction singer has added another tattoo to his collection of body ink and this one’s pretty unique; It’s a tat of a blue Star Wars lightsaber and it actually lights up. Also, if you want to see it closely in person, well, you may have to piss Malik off, as it’s tattooed on his middle finger.
New York tattoo artist Jonathan “Jon Boy” Valena recently shared a pic of the singer flipping the bird to show off the creation on Instagram Friday, as well as a pic of him, Malik and two other people.
A UV tattoo is created with ink that glows under a blacklight
Since I have gone this long without getting a tattoo, I will likely never get one. That doesn’t stop me from constantly thinking about what I would get if I did. Originally, I only ever seriously considered a white ink tattoo of a constellation, probably my zodiac because I don’t know enough about constellations to think of anything cooler. However, a glow in the dark anything would be amazing. I would get the Cheshire Cat and have only its grin show under the blacklight.
As for Zayn, he is now a Jedi. The blue crystal lightsabers are by to protect users, primarily Jedi, most notably Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker before power went to his head (and legs and hand). Zayn’s got his Star Wars themed tattoo the week his song, wHo, for the Ghostbusters soundtrack debuted. The song is a romantic interpretation of the original theme’s “who you going to call” refrain and honestly, I kind of like it. I am not as crazy about Cruel, his collaboration with Snakehips that also dropped last week but I love the picture they use for the soundbite.

I love that little tattoo and tattoos in general. Problem with them is that they are moreish. I have a rune and a daisy chain and am always hankering after another. Must. Not. Look!
I really like the white ink. It definitely adds another layer to the art.
If you get it entirely in the white I’m not sure it even shows during the day time. Best-ever steal tattoo.
I really like that artists work, its really tiny intricate seeming stuff. It makes me wonder how much new ink bleeds over the years. Like, is this going to look like the Teddy Ruxpin Glo-Worm at some point?
I feel like such an old fart because my first thought was “Is that ink even safe???”. It’s cool but looks like a health hazard.
Same exact thought process here!
Add me to the list.
That’s so funny Hecate that you mention a Cheshire Cat smile — that’s exactly the UV tattoo I wanted but the parlor I went to said they don’t use UV ink because it’s toxic. This story has me googling whether that’s actually true. If it’s not, I’m still getting the damn tattoo!
I usually find tattoos tacky but I have to admit this lightsaber tattoo glowing in the dak is pretty cool.
+1! I don’t generally like tattoos, but that one’s pretty cool
I really like this tattoo- that UV part is cool.
Is it a little crooked, though? That would drive me crazy for the rest of my life.
He looks good. He gained some weight and looks even better.
Cool tattoo. Buy i do wonder about the safety of the ink. Anyway… Does it mean that Whenever he salutes someone with his mide finger , he is wishing:
” May the force be with you”
😀
That’s a cool tatoo!
