Emperor Bigly ordered Jared Kushner & Steve Bannon to bury the hatchet

President Donald J. Trump Air Force One Arrival

All throughout the past week, the emperor’s son-in-law has been showing his teeth. Jared Kushner has seemingly been on the war path, literally and figuratively, if that war path involved school-boy blazers coordinated with flak vests, mint juleps, seductive gazes at attractive soldiers and not-so-subtle leaks to the press. You see, there’s a battle within the White House about who daddy loves more. Does Daddy love Bigly Boy Jared more, or does Daddy love Steve Bannon more? Bannon is the nationalist, white supremacist and malignant narcissist. Kushner is the one closest to Precious Ivanka. Bannon = raging id. Kushner = prep-school superego. Who will daddy choose? As it turns out, probably neither.

Steve Bannon and Jared Kushner, two warring senior White House aides, had a bury-the-hatchet meeting ordered by President Donald Trump, after arriving at Mar-a-Lago this week. The sit-down, which was confirmed by two White House officials, was an attempt to smooth over tensions between the two men, which have dominated headlines for days. Whether the meeting was successful in creating a détente – and how long it lasts – is an open question, especially in a White House that has been dominated by infighting.

Bannon and Kushner had for months been allies. In recent weeks, though, there has been substantial discord between them. The fight, people in the administration say, centers on policy differences. Bannon, White House chief strategist, is a flame-throwing populist who formerly ran Breitbart News. He has criticized Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, for his more politically moderate approach. Kushner is suspicious of Bannon’s fiery style and has been concerned about how he’s influencing the president.

Suspicion between Bannon’s team and Kushner’s has intensified in recent days, with both sides accusing the other of planting negative stories in the media. Word of the meeting comes as several news organizations reported Bannon, and possibly other senior White House aides including Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, could be soon be forced out in a broader shakeup. The White House communications director, Michael Dubke, declined to comment.

[From Politico]

It was widely reported on Friday and Saturday that the “staff shakeup” could happen soon enough, although the White House seems to be shrugging off those rumors. Which means it probably will happen, who knows? All I do know is that the hashtags #FireKushner and #FireBannon were all over Twitter on Friday and Saturday. The #FireKushner one was funny/sad because, oh right, Bigly Trump tapped into a deep vein of anti-Semitism and there’s no way that genie is going back into the bottle. So Bigly is reaping what he has sown on both fronts.

You know what else is funny? Really think about this: if Precious Ivanka went to her dad and said “My husband is your guy, you should fire Bannon,” Bigly would probably do that. So why hasn’t Ivanka said that yet?

Our current reality is like a badly written 1980s soap opera.

  2. Shambles says:

Jared is a useless, spineless suckup, Steve is Lucifer incarnate, and Donald Trump is too stupid to know the difference.

  3. RussianBlueCat says:

My prediction: Jared and Steve will appear to “kiss and make up”, then some unknown information about Steve will be “leaked” accidentally on purpose. It will be a new scandal to hit the Trump administration and the media will go into a feeding frenzy. Trump will be furious and unsure of what to do this time. Ivanka then goes to her father and says:”Daddy, I think you should fire Steve, before he does more damage”
Steve is fired and then Jared is now the one in control. Jared and Ivanka are playing the long game. They want to win

    • Esmom says:

That sounds plausible. And I think Jared is the lesser of the two evils.

      • Radley says:

Lesser of two evils is such a low bar and speaks to how hard Trump sucks. Jared Kushner is a dysfunctional sycophant just like his wife. And how he ever could have been an ally to trash heap anti-Semite Bannon is beyond me. It’s infuriating and baffling.

Imo, all of these players are too much of a mess to succeed. There is no normal to balance out all the dysfunction. A group of sick people coming together doesn’t usually produce great results. I just need them all gone. It’s wearing me out.

      • Esmom says:

Yes to everything you said. Their dysfunction is beyond exhausting.

      • Megan says:

What is taking the FBI so long? Let’s hurry up and put all of these people in prison!

But, assuming we are not going to get a quick ousting of these deplorables, I am skeptical that Bannon will be out. I think this is Kushner playing games with the media to gain a leg up. Trump is deeply beholden to Bannon and Mercer. Not to mention Bannon undoubtedly has full knowledge of what went on with Russia. Priebus may get the ax because the staff is a complete sh$tshow and someone is going to have to take the fall.

      • Christin says:

One seems driven primarily by money (more the better); the other, destruction and chaos. The money trail will eventually catch up, if there is any true justice left.

    • IlsaLund says:

It’s interesting how the “fake news media” is conveniently used to report “stories” from inside the White House when it suits the Trumpsters purpose. These alpha males are sickening.

    • bleu_moon says:

I think that’s a possibility. The only thing that might prevent Trump from shedding Bannon is Mercer. Trump needs Mercer.

    • cynic says:

It will be interesting to see the fall-out if the Kushners oust Bannon. The Alt-right (I call them Neo-Nazis) will come at them hard.

  4. Eric says:

Meanwhile Rancid Penis will be replaced as CofS. Shit-sandwich continues.

  5. robyn says:

Looking at the pictures: How can anyone in the military smile when they’re led by an inexperienced, ill-tempered and seemingly unhinged man who lies regularly and was helped by Russia to win? How can anyone in the military not be outraged that they are being placated by an arrogant rich kid whose only qualifications are that his father-in-law gave him an important job?

Trump acts tough and I guess they like that but Trump was too much of a coward to risk his own life, dodging the draft with fake bad feet. Neither Trump nor Jarrrid are qualified to be in their positions … at least Bannon was in the military once. The world, including the media, have gone mad trying to normalize this insane situation. Conveniently for Trump, the Syrian bombing kicked a lot of issues off the table but one can only hope it will all boomerang back to bite Trump in the end.

The military even seems to overlook that Trump had the audacity to compare his suffering to that of a gold star father, to make light of a tortured prisoner of war, to belittle John Kerry who, unlike draft dodging Trump, took a risk and served his country honorably and with honesty. Trump and his supporters disgust me wherever and whoever they are.

    • IlsaLund says:

Agree. It achieved the short term result of changing the subject. Deflection and distraction always work for this administration.

    • nemera34 says:

That was the first thing I noticed (the smiling/laughing). That they are smiling with this man that knows shit about what is going on. And he is going to basically make policy with the President that could cost the lives of many in the military. WTH has happened to the BRAINS of people.

The thing that is just so weird is how Trumps far right supporters are going nuts. They are pissed that he has backtracked on so many of this Campaign slogans. They are the ones that he should be worried about. They are NUTS

    • SusanneToo says:

trump’s perceived good days never last long. He always does/tweets something that brings his stupidity/incompetence back to the forefront, so we do have hope. That, plus he seems to be pi$$ing off some supporters.

    • Snowflake says:

I can’t even imagine being a lifetime military employee and having to make nice with clueless Jared. What a slap in the face to hardworking enlisted and officers.

    • Lolo86lf says:

I agree with everything you say, but then I wonder how many of those military people voted for Trump? If they did vote for him then they must put up with whatever is coming to them.

      • cynic says:

I believe that it was reported that the military folk voted bigly for Trump, so this is what they get. Somehow, it seems to be hard-wired to military folk (I’m just generalizing) overall to vote Republican. I remember how John Kerry was swift-boated.

    • Tryannosarahs says:

Don’t forget him talking crap about John McCain as a POW, saying he himself just “wouldn’t have gotten caught”.
      How disgraceful.

      • SusanneToo says:

Of course he wouldn’t have gotten caught!! He was hiding out in a penthouse while McCain and others were in the jungles of VietNam. I can’t remember the last time the Viet Cong attacked a NYC penthouse.

      • Megan says:

I recently spoke to someone on active duty and he said Trump is universally hated by the military. He said it started with Trump ridiculing McCain and was compounded by his many impolitic comments about the military. The military does not trust or respect him.

      • Annetommy says:

That was disgusting. Trump compounded it by even more revolting remarks that not getting an STD was his own personal Vietnam. I actually feel sick typing that.

      • wolfpup says:

Annetommy: God, (forbid )imagine if one of us were the person captured and trapped into violence against our body and soul.

The whole discussion on war is NOT FUNNY: Drumph should have never taunted the public that John McCain was a POW. Not that any Drumph supporters care – maybe because *they* weren’t in a cage in the middle of a jungle with people who torture.

      • jwoolman says:

Trump wouldn’t have ever been a POW because either

        1) his dad would have gotten him into the National Guard, which back then was a guarantee that you would not be sent to Vietnam (Bush did the same, although he also forgot to show up most of the time)

        or

        2) he would have gone to Vietnam as an officer and been killed by his own men asap because he is so obnoxious (in military school, they had to remove him from a command position in a group because the boys under him were so demoralized).

    • Original T.C. says:

Don’t confuse respect for the chain of command in the military with personal agreement. Also, I bet they are simply relieved to be dealing with someone from Trump Corp. who is not totally bat sh*t insane! But realistically speaking, the military is diverse with diverse political opinions. I know many intelligent military folks who think Trump is an idiotic, racist, blowhard who has no business being in control of nuclear weapons.

They are legit afraid he is going to start WWIII. And unlike the media narrative of military people “loving” war, they actually think going to war is the LAST thing a country should consider and only after exhausting every other option. Knowledge of military history alone tells them everyone loses in war. The have more first hand knowledge of the phrase “war is hell” than most people in Washington, D.C.

Like everything else, it’s the loudest, most ignorant voices that they media uses to represent “the military voice”.

      • wolfpup says:

My first husband was in the army. War is hell, no doubt – and the very nicest people (call them Syrian) are being bombed. We all knew that Drumph would start the next war – no? OMG – how long does 4 years last?

There is so much weeping in war, how can we not feel it, even if it’s 1/2 the planet away from us? The cries of little children for their mama’s or papa’s? I hear their cries. I weep.

If you are desperate for a laugh, check out #KushnerAtWar at which people suggest movie titles to match the photo, such as Band of Brooks Brothers, Operation Desert Nordstrom, The Shilling Fields, The Spy Who Came in With the Gold, Saving Private Equity, Chickenhawk Down. Scores of titles, scoring direct hits.

  7. Beth says:

Thank goodness he’s gone. Now it’s time for the rest of them to go too

    • Who ARE These People? says:

Of course, except he’s not gone, he still has security clearance, can still sit in NSC meetings, is still down the hall from the Oval Office. But any sign of weakness is good.

      • wolfpup says:

Kushner is somewhat moderate. We should not consider this done until Bannon is gone…not down the hall, nor showing weakness, but f*cking gone from the political scene. Perhaps Drumph could “””read””” Bannon’s opinions in the middle of the night in his white bathrobe, somewhere in the White House – perhaps confined to his private compartments, newly decorated with Russian gold. He is NOT a patriot! Every single patriot could tell you this!

      • jwoolman says:

I keep asking people how the heck Steve Bannon got a security clearance.

  8. Tahlia says:

Son-in-Law of the Führer vs Oberführer Bannon. Buncha geniuses. I wish they’d all go bury themselves back in their gold towers & leave governance actual human beings.

  9. manda says:

I wondered from the beginning how they would work together, specifically because Bannon is an antisemite. Maybe antisemite’s can still be, like, professional? At the same time, it’s weird to me that an orthodox Jew could/would work with such an overt antisemite. Seems like this was destined to not work

  10. original kay says:

100 million spent on a botched air strike. There better be a shake up in the WH.

As for this latest, Jared will win. He and Ivanka hold all the cards. Whether that means bannon is fired, resigns or is shifted to a lesser position remains.

I hate these people. did anyone else see that trump negated the laws about killing bears in hibernation? **cries**

    • Nanea says:

“100 million spent on a botched air strike.”

Of which a bigly sum landed in the coffers of one PTTrumpum, who, in addition to being the Orange Emperor Twitler, also owns substantial shares in the manufacturer of the Cruise Missiles, Raytheon.

So whatever else happens at the White House, MaL, or, more likely, on a golf course – Cheeto Mussolini will win. Always.

      • Original T.C. says:

I’m guilty of supporting the first air-strikes as justice for those dead children. Now days later watching the follow up air strikes, the neocons coming out from hiding pushing for greater Military action in other parts of the Arab world as well as negative feedback from the Syrian people I completely change my mind. I fell for it but I’m picking myself up from the ground and fighting back.

The Syrians don’t want more fighting, they want a political solution. It’s interesting to see that Nikki Haily and Trump Inc.’s Tillerson are on differenet sides of this debate. Wonder why Trump isn’t intervening in that internal fight. Maybe he is actually afraid of Nikki Hailey?!

    • Olenna says:

The cost this live fire exercise in futility is breathtaking. I’m so glad I’m no longer wearing the uniform, serving under a commander-in-chief that would use our military as his ego toy and a diversion from what he and his cabinet of criminals are doing to destroy democracy here in the US.

      • cynic says:

Yes, thank God we are able to get money from the proposed-to-be-defunded school lunch program to pay for the missiles. yea, I’m being sarcastic.

    • ida says:

“Jared will win. He and Ivanka hold all the cards.” yes, for the moment but because Putin holds the entire deck they will ALL FALL and I cannot wait!

      • wolfpup says:

The Putin chess game – that Americans are losing because of Drumph’s fantasies about power. Why don’t we put him on a computer war game, and forget him..and let him be happy blowing up people in his mind?

War is not funny – nor are hungry children that are denied healthy school lunches – their lunch is being sent to a war that is about killing others – just because of opinions about personal life, and how others choose to live it?

  11. Bobbysue says:

What is with the ever-present gin blossoms on Bannon’s nose — is that from the previous evening, or does he take his Stoli with just a splash of breakfast OJ? I don’t suppose it even matters. But somebody ought to clue him that this is the hideous side effect of being a weak drunkard.

  12. grabbyhands says:

The fact that Steve Bannon is still running around in the White House (and apparently still under Baby Fist’s protection) after BF supposedly had his come to Jesus moment about the plight of Syrian children being gassed by Assad speaks volumes about what a fake out (I mean, in addition to other mountains of evidence) that whole thing was.

But this should be interesting-Bannon obviously has the goods on A LOT of people-I’m certain of this. I can’t think of any other reason why 45 would keep someone around who is such a liability and that so few people in DC seem to like. Kushner knows that right now his star is tied to BF, so he’s still got to toe the line and play nice. But he’s a slimy little shark, like the rest of them. Ambitious, obviously.

I think a lot of the Republicans are hoping he keeps BF in line, and probably prefer him as an intermediary than Bannon. it will be interesting to see how far that ambition goes. 45 and Bannon are going to outlive their usefulness sooner rather than later. I wonder how far Kushner would go, how much he’d be willing to sabotage his father n law if was able to secure his own political position? I honestly don’t think Ivanka would stop him if he got something for her as well. No pun intended, but power trumps familial love in that family every.single.time.

  13. SusanneToo says:

A slight divergence from Jared, but just another unqualified POS costing us millions:

  14. swak says:

In the picture with Jared and the two soldiers it looks like the one is telling a joke (with hints of dissing Trump), Jared doesn’t understand the joke and the other guy is laughing at it because he knows what is being said.

    • Lightpurple says:

Last time they were here, they got a State Dinner with Ne-Yo performing and got to hand with Misty Copland and Mark Zuckerberg. This time, Arabella Kushner singing in Mandarin. And since Ivanka was showing off her spawn, her youngest brother was rather conspicuously absent.

      • nemera34 says:

They hide his son all the time. And it has nothing to do with him going to school.

didn’t Ivanka have her daughter do this before at Christmas or something. Trump can’t find any celebrities to perform other than Lee Greenwood.. who only sings that ONE song over and over and over again.

      • Lightpurple says:

@nemera34, Ivanka posted a video of Arabella singing in Mandarin on Twitter during the Yemen raid that killed kids.

    • Shambles says:

I read that and I wanted to throw up.

It’s like Ivanka watched the Sound of Music and decided forcing her children to be the Von Trapps would be a great way to normalize fascism.

    • Lyla says:

Yeah, except her mandarin was indecipherable.

  16. bleu_moon says:

Bannon is truly a nutter. Read this article about his belief in the theories found in “The Fourth Turning.” He made a movie about it too. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/04/08/us/politics/stephen-bannon-book-fourth-turning.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=first-column-region&region=top-news&WT.nav=top-news

    • Esmom says:

Yeah, the first time I read anything in depth about Bannon it chilled me to the bone. Of all the deplorables surrounding Trump — and there are so many awful, evil, immoral ones — he’s the one who’s scared me the most.

  17. wolfie says:

I actually got a catalog in the mail with some of the funniest antiBigly stuff in it. T-shirts with like “and we tell our children anyone can grow up to be president” and “never follow the masses, the m is often silent”. There is a Trump “dammit” doll to beat up. There is a countdown clock to the end of his term. I am ordering. The big question is how did they know o send it to me?

    • jwoolman says:

Donald Trump piñatas are very popular in Mexico. Are they in the catalog?

They probably have an 85% chance of finding someone not enamored of Donald Trump if they send the catalog to anybody in the USA. It’s likely that about 15% or so is his actual base, based on the actual number of votes.

  18. Bridget says:

Ivanka is smart enough to only ask for what she knows her father will give. I think Kushner will win out, but it won’t be a slam dunk.

  19. perplexed says:

What IS Jared’s belief system? Everyone keeps saying he’s liberal just because he comes from a liberal family, but whatever he believes seems as nebulous to me as what Ivanka and Donald believe.

    • SusanneToo says:

Not to put too fine a point on it, but imo Jared’s belief system jives with the trumps’: $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    • adastraperaspera says:

Our media sucks, they’ve already backed off because they are distracted by the shiny bombs that were dropped on Syria. Our democracy is dying and nobody seems to care. Yikes!

  22. Lyla says:

Hate to give Jared any credit, but he was also waited out Chris Christie. Maybe he’s doing the same with Bannon
