Back when Amal Clooney – then Amal Almuddin – first came on the scene, any time we got photos of her, it was big news. We were so interested in analyzing her fashion, her vibe, her life and more. Nowadays, it does feel like that sh-t has settled down a bit, especially after Amal gave birth to babies Sascha and Ella (I’m really trying to make Sascha Clooney happen, btw). Amal has been in New York this week, giving guest lectures at Columbia Law.
I miss the days when we talked about Amal’s style, because her style is still so… odd. I didn’t “get” her look the other day, with the white summery skirt paired with a green leather jacket. And while this outfit makes more sense, it’s still worth noting that Amal has sort of bonkers style for a woman in her position. Amal owns conservative suits, and I know that because we’ve seen her in those mostly-Chanel suits. She must feel like those are her “lawyer uniform,” and any time she’s not lawyering, that’s when her playful side comes out. So, she wears babydoll dresses and big hats and embroidered jeans and lots of vintage. Her non-lawyer style is part Carolyn Bessette, part Jackie Kennedy and part-clown. Today’s outfit? A brown leather (vinyl?) coat by Diane Von Furstenberg. And crazy plaid pants, designer unknown right now.
So help me God… I might actually wear this though? I think the DVF coat is overkill, but the base of the crazy pants and black top is good. I love the cut of those trousers too, but I love a wide-leg or palazzo pant. Her hair is on fleek as well.

I love every single thing about this outfit.
Me, too. I used to have a pair of pants in a similar plaid. I wore them to death.
Yes me too! It looks amazing and I totally would wear this!
Those pants! She’s swimming in them! Need a more curvy figure or tailor them down or something! I might like them if they were a different cut. Coat looks shiny and cheap. Love the glasses.
Same here, Chaine. I love a good plaid pant but that cut is not my style. If they were tailored and had a slightly slimmer cut, I’d be all over them. I don’t hate wide-leg trousers but these are just a bit too much for me.
Love it. So retro, she can carry it off.
her style is so strange to me but it really works on her. Anyone else and I would really be questioning it but she carries these looks really well.
I could never wear it but she can.
I love it, too. Her style has really grown on me.
I love them and I’d wear them. They just need to be hemmed properly so they don’t drag on the ground.
I love everything about this outfit, because the black top and black handbag pops the whole outfit against the brown. Amal has always had great sunglasses game. I can’t see her shoes, so no comment on that.
I love her hair but the outfit doesn’t fit right and the jacket looks super cheap.
She looks great! And I would totally steal her bag. In fact I would steal the whole outfit, except… I’d look ridiculous in it. 🙁
Amal is back on the stroll.
As a professional seamstress I can say those pants would never leave my shop. They would fit and look so much better if they were hemmed a couple of inches, so the cuffs were just off the ground. Pant hems dragging on the ground destroy the legline every damned time. Besides, tripping on your pants is never a good look.
Agreed. Plus the fabric is going to fray & get dirty where it comes into contact with the ground. But, that assumes she’s the one doing laundry or running to the dry cleaners or that she’d even wear them a second time….
she needs a haircut.
I don’t mean to be snarky, but what is the deal with Amal Clooney she is the wife of a famous celebrity actor and she has a law degree. I can name you some very smart, successful prominent women attorneys who have contributed to society and never get any coverage. If she didn’t marry George Clooney, she would be back in England practicing law with some firm. How come we don’t cover other wives of other famous celebrities, who are successful in their own right and have great style, like Kate Capshaw, Annette Bening, Rita Wilson and Portia De Rossi to name a few.
I agree. The hype for Amal is because of the Clooney name.
Totally agree. I would be all behind the Clooney push to make her the biggest legal unicorn ever since it’s good to have positive women role models out there. But I just feel she’s very narcissistic, superficial, and fame hungry while her husband, though probably very fond of her, is all about getting credibility through this marriage. So can I say this without coming across as a mean person: she’s a junior barrister who assisted silks on several high profile cases, and there are thousands of other oxbridge/ivy league lady lawyers with more experience and publications, and she gets jobs for the pr she can attract for the case.
You know these people personally??
You don’t need to know overexposed people personally to have an opinion about them, especially when they’re always going on about how blissfully happy they are in their romantic life and sharing personal details.
Hate It 🙁
She may be a lot of things but boring and predictable she is not. Love it.
she looks fantastic. i love her style.
I don’t hate the outfit, but I don’t like her hair with it… I don’t think I like her hair… it looks ratty and too long…
I love everything about this outfit including her hair.
Love!!! This woman has amazing style. I love 70’s fashion.
she loves the 70’s looks doesn’t she?
This is the most flattering photo you’ve chosen – on the Daily Mail the photos are….harsh but then they probably do that deliberately. I don’t really understand the hype; if she were an intellectual heavyweight she would have made QC by now. Not sure how she’s secured a gig at Columbia but if I were a student I’d be miffed at having paid that much in fees and have her turning up to teach me. I went to the equivalent of an Ivy League university in England and read law; it would have definitely annoyed me!
She is a beautiful woman and has an interesting, cool style. I wish I looked this beautiful and cool when I am 40. Hell, I wish I looked as good NOW.
LOVE!
Love it. Love her. Just wish she’d cut about three or four inches off her hair.
Love it all! I have a coat similar to that , and I love the pants, but I think they should be hemmed.
She looks fab, but you’d need to love 70s fashion to be into this. Which I do!
Also I find it a bit weird and creepy to give nicknames to other people’s children, even if they are celebrities.
My first reaction is that she’s in the wrong season. It’s spring post Easter and shes dressed for autumn.
I love 70s fashion and I love Amal.
Me too!
I know I’m late to this story, but Carolyn Bessette, Jackie Kennedy, and part clown, best style description ever!!!!
