ET: Jennifer Garner wants to make sure ‘her next man is in it for the long run’

ET Online has some quotes from a “source” close to Jennifer Garner. This isn’t her usual outlet, but I do buy that they’re legitimate insider quotes because they use the same talking points we always hear from her side, that her kids are a priority and that she’s a devoted mom. I buy that version of her, I also see how much it’s pushed in the media. We’ve heard rumors that Garner is dating and she’s even been seen out with a guy. Garner’s ex Michael Vartan was asked if he would be interested in a rebound romance with her and he declined, giving the sage advice “If it didn’t work once, there’s a reason it didn’t work.” (Does the guy tapping his head meme work here? My kid tells me I use memes wrong. I think that meme is only for clever solutions to problems.) Anyway when Garner does date, she wants to find a commitment-minded guy, but that’s not a priority for her, according to ET:

A source tells ET that [Jennifer Garner] is in no rush to return to the dating scene.

“She wants to be very careful and very selective when she does find the time to date — because of the kids,” the source says. “She hasn’t made dating a priority.”

“Jen wants to make sure that when she finally does decide she is ready for romance that her next man is in it for the long run,” the source explains.

While the source adds that Garner does enjoy nights out with friends, she’s focused more heavily on family, health and her career.

“She is back. She has thrown herself into her work and her success,” the source says. “She is killing it and those [closest to her] couldn’t be more proud.”

Recently, the 45-year-old actress trekked out to Hawaii, bringing the children to visit ex-husband Ben Affleck for Easter. And as for her career, aside from Love, Simon premiering to critical acclaim, Garner is starring alongside Lena Dunham in the upcoming revenge thriller Peppermint, due to release in September.

“She is excited for the release of Peppermint. She talks a lot about working with Lena Dunham. She is really excited,” the source says. “Men are last on Jen’s list. First comes her children, then her career and then a man.”

[From ET Online]

To successfully find someone you have to work at dating, especially at this age when the pool is smaller. You don’t just meet someone and move in and that’s it. If that happens, it’s often a red flag. Luckily we have all these ways to filter people now, but that can make it harder to choose, and make us reject men who might otherwise be great partners. Also, Garner has a broken picker! She needs to make sure she picks someone who is decent and not a narcissist who will sweep her off her feet. So many people look for that tingly OMG feeling when they date someone instead of trying to evaluate whether the person is right for them and take their time getting to know them. I guess by being specific about what she wants and waiting, Garner is doing the work and focusing on her kids and herself. She doesn’t need to constantly be in a relationship like her ex and that’s a good sign.

Also, read the second to last paragraph which states that “Garner is starring alongside Lena Dunham in the upcoming revenge thriller Peppermint.” She’s doing an HBO series created by Lena Dunham and also starring in the revenge movie Peppermint. Don’t tell me Lena is in that too. IMDB doesn’t have Lena listed in that movie at all. Coverage on Hollywood Reporter and Deadline doesn’t mention Lena. This is an error on ET’s part. Maybe they got decent quotes, took them out of context and then didn’t google. “She is excited for the release of Peppermint. She talks a lot about working with Lena Dunham.” Those are two separate projects.

Here’s a new photo Garner posted from the set of Camping, Dunham and Jenni Konner’s HBO series.

Well, she needs to date no more actors for a start. I think we all see her with a nice solid stable businessman, the anti-Ben.

  2. AnnaKist says:

She scrubs up alright, and good luck to her on finding the long-haul man. Bleeegh. All those bloody hashtags make my eyes go wonky. Do people actually read all of them? Cuz I can’t.

    • KBB says:

She always does that. She puts #ICrackMyselfUp on like every post too.

    • mela says:

Honestly, if I was Jen – I would go the Jennifer Aniston route. Just get a house in Malibu, work out every day, do yoga, get skin care treatments and hang out with your girlfriends and kids/pets…forget a man…

  3. teegirl says:

What a load of crap and it’s clearly from Jen’s PR. They’re really pushing this New Jen Who Is Back and Killing It narrative lately, which lends more credibility to the rumor that she’s allowed Ben to move back into the home and is furiously trying to deflect. I’ll believe that she’s really and truly moved on when Ben isn’t living there anymore and she isn’t accommodating his every whim and need like he’s still her man and her #1 priority is to save him. Their “divorce” still isn’t finalized and it’s been 100 years.

    • mela says:

She is really in amazing shape and seems like a good person. If she wasn’t so stalkerish/obsessed/insane about Ben Affleck she would probably look back at this period of her life and regret all her great years she wasted on Ben….while Ben was banging Shookus and not her.

It’s sad how much she bends over backwards just to be friends/have any contact with him. The fact she flew in to Hawaii to see Ben within hours of Lindsay’s visit really says something to me about what a doormat she is for Ben.

It’s not “all for the kids”.

    • ash says:

GIRL i screamed when you said 100 years!!! THIS

  4. Sparkly says:

I really hope Lena isn’t in Peppermint. I kind of want to see it, but not if she’s in it. I’m glad to know that’s an error.

    • KBB says:

They’re confused, Lena has nothing to do with Peppermint. She’s writing the HBO show Camping that Garner is starring in. Jennifer being excited about Peppermint and working with Lena are two unrelated sentiments.

  5. moira says:

Hahaha. Sure, Jan/Jen. Looking for Husband #3 when you’re still obsessing over #2…

  6. Anastasia says:

She has such great arms. That’s all I’ve got.

    • wrongside says:

really?? I like toned arms but hers in the pictures (as well as Letizia’s) look a bit manly to me.

      • ORIGINAL T.C. says:

They are called muscles honey, for those of us who like being athletic and in top shape instead of just “toned”. You get that look from hard workouts, lifting weights and sweating. Gasp! Just like men. LMAO. I think you are looking for the yoga club where you can get a soft mist and go for a latte afterwards.

      • mela says:

I love her arms. She has an amazing gym rat body

original TC. yoga totally helped shredd my arms. (along with orange theory and liffting weights)

I don’t know where you do yoga, but my power yoga studio is like 1 hour of push ups plank and lunges in 100 degree heat lol

      • jesse palmer says:

The arms/shoulders plus the jaw and total lack of waist make her look butch. Ben likes those manly women. Well, except Lopez, who makes every other woman that he’s ever been with look like a cafeteria lunch lady in Iowa.

      • Anastasia says:

Manly???? They look AMAZING. She doesn’t exactly have Popeye arms, geez. They’re wonderfully toned and look strong. I love that. Wish I had it!

      • deets says:

Jesse did you just come from GOMI or something? Gtfo with that disgusting nonsense.

      • Ariel says:

        Gomi burn! haaaaaa

So many ‘Jen is dating’ stories in the tabloids lately. Makes me think that someone is actually trying to deflect. Maybe Ben really has moved back in. Jen would look so hilariously bad if that got out.

    • Carolnr says:

      @ girlwithahorse
Did Ben really move back in? I thought I read that he had given up his rental down the street but someone else commented that Lindsay also has a house in LA?
I am wondering if Jen is gearing up to announce publicly that she is dating someone….time will tell.

  8. Dr Mrs The Monarch says:

I want to see her with Chris Evans as a rebound relationship. Just put a young, hot, fit, Marvel superhero in the tabloids to show Ben how badly he sabotages himself. Chris would treat her well and it would likely be fun for her kids to hang out with Captain A. It would be gossip gold and good for both of them.

    • girl w a horse says:

Evans doesn’t have the best track record with women. He also wants kids of his own, so that relationship would go nowhere. If she wanted to annoy Ben she’d go for a high-ranking Democrat or entrepreneur/academic. She’s never going to get someone like that with her ex living at home. In fact, I’m not sure who would sign up to date this woman who is so clearly not over her ex.

      • mela says:

I think she’d rather be “separated” and living with her “ex” Ben even if he is dating Shookus, than divorced and in another relationship.

  9. NoShame says:

I know I’m in the minority, but Jen Garner does nothing for me at this point. I LOVED her in Alias, because she seemed pretty badass back then. Now she seems like such a goody two shoes who’s playing a pretty massive PR game. It’s Hollywood and I get that those games are played, but man does she lay it on thick. Anyone who married and had children with Ben Affleck can’t be as good as she makes herself out to be. He seems so terrible in every conceivable way.

    • minx says:

No, I feel the same way. She’s a serviceable actress and that’s about it. She cast her lot with the minivan moms and even though I have kids I do NOT consider myself part of that demographic. Her “Garner girls” comments sounded so prissy to me.

  10. bea says:

Not sure why ET isn’t considered one of Jen’s outlets. They have been creating full stories out of every other IG post that she puts up since she made her IG official. It seems like her team is frequently pushing stories out through them. Plus, if not ET, then who/what is her usual outlet? She blasted People for fake news, US mag used to have insider info then they were sold and are now trash, E news has posted similar stories to this…

  11. Carolnr says:

I don’t blame her for not jumping in the dating pool, especially when you have children. I will be married 20 yrs. in May & I have friends that have gotten divorced after 10+ years & they tell my husband & I all the horror stories about dating now. When my husband & I dated, there was actual phone conversation not texting! We used to talk on the phone for hours! You can read to much or too little in texting Don’t get me wrong, we text now but just for a short, quick messages. We are only in our 40’s, but we cannot believe how technology has evolved & communication has faltered.
I would be nice if Jen met someone who also had children & was responsible. But I always believed that you find someone when you are not looking!

  12. Shannon says:

I get that some people see her as a sanctimommy or something. I mean, I’m nowhere near that, but if this is true, I feel where she’s at. I used to be ‘boy crazy’ (well, that’s what my mom said LOL) but it’s true that I had a hard time being alone. Especially as a single mom, I kept feeling like I needed to have this perfect family with a husband. Now idgaf. I mean, if the right man comes along – and I’m pretty picky now – cool, I’m not opposed to the idea of dating again. But it’s not even close to a priority for me. But if this isn’t true and she’s just holding out for Ben, ew, girl stop.

  13. Cher says:

This Jen trying to remain relevant.
