Prince Andrew told the Queen that his BBC interview was a ‘great success’

Trump Kanye Meeting

Just note: I absolutely loathe threadjacking. I’m sure that many of you have already seen, linked to and discussed all of these stories and I get it, it’s a big story. But can you please ease up on the threadjacking in general? Thank you. As we discussed over the weekend, Prince Andrew’s BBC interview was one of the worst disasters I’ve ever seen in my life. He lied constantly, he came across as boorish, stupid and ensconced in royal privilege, and he showed zero empathy for the victims of rape, abuse and human trafficking, some of whom he almost certainly abused and raped himself. Here’s the interview again:

There are so many lies here. It’s interesting how many outlets are merely picking apart the “I never partied” lie – the Daily Mail and other sites have pulled out their old photos of Andrew partying is fat ass off in 2007. He also looked pretty sweaty, contradicting another stupid lie.

But really, the larger story is “can the royal family just retire Andrew and send him away?” I think they could retire him, but it would have to come from the Queen, and right now she’s not listening to one bad word about her favorite son. She went to church with Andrew yesterday and he told her all about how the interview was a great success:

Prince Andrew told the Queen today his disastrous BBC interview was “a great success”. Prince Andrew was “buoyant” as he attended church with his mum despite the furious backlash which has put his official role under threat and plunged the Royal Family into its biggest crisis in years. Astonishingly, the Duke of York believes he has now put to bed any criticism over his links to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a close friend of the royal. In a show of support yesterday, the Queen stood by her “favourite son” as they attended church on the Windsor estate where they live.

His pal revealed last night: “The Duke went to church with the Queen and was heard telling her it’s all been a great success. He thinks he’s done the right thing and has put the criticism to rest. He was all smiles and was looking very buoyant and happy.”

The Queen arrived in a car while Andrew went separately to the Royal Chapel of All Saints. The pal went on: “As well as chatting, Andrew and the Queen also prayed together. He walked to the church so they weren’t pictured together.”

The royal’s pal said his aides do not “have the heart” to tell him how badly it has gone down. They went on: “He’s told his friends and advisers he is delighted because he thought he acquitted himself well. He’s cock-a-hoop. He seriously believes he’s pulled off a master triumph. It’s astonishing. No one has the heart to tell him that he’s delusional — and this is the overall problem. He’s surrounded by people who tell him what he wants to hear. Yesterday he was looking happier than he has been for months, totally unaware his interview had caused a firestorm of criticism.”

It is unknown if the Queen watched the BBC programme, though she is said to have been the only member of the Royal Family to have been told of it beforehand. Buckingham Palace last night said they will not comment on royals’ private time or confirm the Queen went to church with her son. But our source revealed: “The Queen is very much intending to stand by Andrew. The sad reality is that she’s got a blind spot when it comes to him, as her favourite son. It’s a bit like how Margaret Thatcher was with her son Mark. Andrew can’t do any wrong in the Queen’s eyes.”

We can reveal the Duke intends to return to work tomorrow for an official engagement, which sources have described as “madness”. Our insider explained: “He is planning to push ahead with his engagements and doesn’t want to duck out of anything.”

[From The Sun]

I… don’t have words. Talk about living in a bubble. Is it really that likely that the Queen’s advisors wouldn’t have told her how Andrew’s interview was poorly received? I know the royals don’t officially “read the papers” but they totally do and the headlines and analysis of the interview were everywhere, even in royal-supporting papers. Is the Queen that out of touch? Clearly, Andrew IS that out of touch. Oh well… if this is the end of the monarchy, then so be it.

    God he really is delusional

    • Lauren says:

      Very.

I’m betting Charles is just itching to get rid of his ass.

      • Snappyfish says:

Charles has been edging him to the background of the balcony for some time now. Streamlining, if you will, to his 2 sons, their wives & children. One of the reasons it was so important for Andrew that Eugenie got her day when she wed.

The “I don’t sweat because of all the adrenaline from the Falklands War” is what sent me over the rails. How does he breathe with his head so firmly wedged up his bum?

      • Mrs.Krabapple says:

@ Snappyfish: Charles may well be pushing Andrew and his kids to the side in anticipation of streamlining the monarchy. But Andrew is the second son of a monarch. Harry will also be a second son of a monarch, and relatively equal in “rank” to Andrew. Charles cannot cut Andrew and his kids off from the “HRH” title without doing the same to Harry and his kid(s). And also Anne and Edward, although Anne and Edward’s (and Harry’s for now) children don’t have the “HRH” anyway. But my point is, as long as Harry, Edward, and Anne are “HRH” there is no basis for Charles to cut off Andrew. Unless Andrew is convicted, which he won’t be. And Charles cannot allow a member of the royal family to be criminally charged (do we really think Andrew is the only one with shady financial dealings?). So I doubt much will change even after the Queen dies.

      • TheOtherSam says:

@MrsK there is plenty Charles can do, once he’s King. He most certainly can ‘cut’ Andrew off in terms of his funding, patronages, London palace housing (Andrew currently has an apt in BP) and many other areas. He can push him right out of active Royal Family duties and right into early retirement to private life. No more public work on behalf of the Crown.

And I fully believe he’s had every intention of doing this. The most recent revelations will likely speed up his plans. He’s pretty much in charge now as is.

No he can’t/won’t take away his HRH but so what? He can take away nearly everything else. The HRH is pretty meaningless if you’re not a working royal.

      • Tigerlily says:

@MrsK They don’t have to take away Andrew’s HRH, The Duke of Windsor kept his HRH and was still a nothing as far as doing any official duties etc. I’m not sure if he was even considered a member of the Royal Family after abdication. And he was basically exiled. It didn’t affect the positions his brothers the late Duke of Gloucester and late Duke of Kent held.

I agree with many others who have posted that TQ is deaf to what is going on and apparently her advisors must be as well. I wonder if Charles has sat back knowing that Andrew would hang himself given enough rope? With Charles out of the country, as other posters noted, his hands are “clean”.

Lastly, I wonder what the Duke of Edinburgh thinks. I don’t think he is as blind to Andrew’s faults as TQ is. I would think that if he saw the program, he would be livid with Andrew. DofE is very elderly, how would TQ’s opinion of Andrew change if this scandal were to adversely affect the DofE’s health?

      • Megan says:

Has no one learned from the Gary Condit interview?

    • VS says:

I thought senior royals were not supposed to give interviews while other senior royals are on ‘complex’ tour?

Putting that clear hypocrisy aside, Prince Andrew must be one of the stupidest and most clueless man on earth!

He is the proof of how far mediocre white men can go while still being mediocre. Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Jean-Marie Le Pen & his daughter are also proofs of the same thing

      • Mignionette says:

I have a strong feeling that Charles is the one who helped Andy to the waters edge aka to do this interview. I also think Chuck being out of the country is all part of the strategy and a way of ensuring that his ‘hands are clean’.

      • fishface says:

The BRF were never famous for their brains.

      • PrincessK says:

Yes, what is the point of Charles tour to NZ??

    • NotSoSocialButterfly says:

No, just a bald faced liar.

Like this comment, that ran alongside photos of him with wildly dilated pupils in a camera flash (cocaine, anyone?):PA:
‘It was a convenient place to stay… I’ve gone through this in my mind so many times. At the end of the day, with a benefit of all the hindsight that one can have, it was definitely the wrong thing to do. But at the time I felt it was the honourable and right thing to do and I admit fully my judgement was probably coloured by my tendency to be too honourable but that’s just the way it is.’

Sure, Jan (I mean, Randy Andy, as you’ve long been known).

      • Moneypenny says:

I mean, when you go to a one-horse town like Manhattan, you almost have to stay with an acquaintance.

**we won’t remind him there are 100,000+ hotel rooms there.

      • Amy Too says:

Funny how the “convenient thing to do” and the “honorable thing to do” lined up for him. Usually, they don’t. Usually the honorable thing to do is NOT convenient, but you do it anyways because it’s honorable.

      • PrincessK says:

Also it seems as though there are no hotels in Paris. Andrew has stayed at Epstein’s place there too.

    • Moneypenny says:

Not just delusional. This is what happens when a stupid person does not know he is stupid. The unimaginable entitlement of this family creates, fosters and emboldens dolts like Andrew and this privilege protects them from ramifications.

      • VS says:

@Moneypenny ——- you are so right; he is stupid but unfortunately he is also arrogant which multiplies his stupidity by 10x

  2. Cidy says:

I’m thinking.. and this isnt me being ageist or anything like that, but how old is she? Is she still at the point mentally where she can comprehend when people are “softening” the blow for her? Surely she has seen the interview and if she had I cant imagine she would call it a success.

I’m thinking also that she might be out of touch, that she doesnt understand us commoners and how we actually view the monarchy today in 2019 – 2020, we dont revere them, admire them, most people dont want them around and have a lot of questions as to their purpose.

I feel like this has been a really time deaf year for the entire royal family, but this Andrew stuff is just.. appalling. The best thing the royals could have done was kicked him to the curb, at least publically – in this time to show support to the poor victims of this entire situation, instead they doubled down on ignorance and hoped status would get them through.

    #abolishthemonarchy

    • Betsy says:

I was actually thinking the same thing, that she has some age related mental deterioration and has had for a while. She’s in her 90s, right? I know that 90 year olds can be incredibly sharp, but there are conginitive changes as we age. I can see a mother disbelieving charges like that against her child at first, but after awhile one has to grasp the truth. And I think TQ is experiencing a decline and isn’t grasping the truth, nor how it looks when she supports a child rapist.

    • VS says:

If she is too old, then she should abdicate!!! it is as simple as that! what’s her role then if she is that easily manipulated?

Thx you gosh, we kicked those people to the curb! we have our own issues in the states but at least we don’t have to deal with incompetence because of an accident of birth!

    • Chelle says:

She was probably spared the lurid details or provided a very vague or selective retelling of what’s going on and how it’s unfolding. Remember he dated Koo Stark, so she might think it’s something along those lines. “Ma’am Andrew has gotten up to his usual spot of trouble. This time it’s with an unsavory American financier and something about young women hanging around. The papers are making a bother about it.”

In addition, who knows publicly what her own biases or beliefs are around sex, “virtue” and sexual relationships between woman and men. In her mind (and what she could have been told), Andrew, as an older man, could have simply had sex with a younger woman of easy virtue who is now crying foul. That happens all time.

None of that is to refute that suggestion that she’s cognitively declining.

    • Kristina says:

@Cidy my own grandma is 95 and sharp as ever, living in her own house. She knows which of her 9 grandkids it is on the phone just by us saying “hi, Nana!” and knows all of her great-grandkids’ birthdays by memory, etc. so while of course it’s entirely reasonable that at her age, the queen’s cognitive skills
May be in decline, to me, it just seems like the same head-in-sand/stubborn way she’s always handled everything.

    • Beatles says:

@Cidy I believe the same, she’s got to be mentally incapacitated in some form from age (92 IIRC). This type of clown show would never have been allowed to continue by Elizabeth if she was still with it, we know this from history. She rather ruthlessly dispatched any member of the family who brought a fraction of this scandal- Diana, Fergie, held Camilla at arm’s length, kept her own mother restricted from the public due to her alcoholism in her last years, maintained that her uncle and Wallis away once she took the throne, jettisoned her own sister to the islands.

Elizabeth lived through the abdication crisis, she thought it a tragedy to the family name, she’d never let any scandal grow this uncontrollably large if she was still “with it”- even if he is her supposed favorite son. Because she was, if nothing else, an unrelenting and disciplined firm hand of a ruler.

  3. Lennn says:

I keep thinking of Meghan and I picture her curled up on the sofa with her mom, finally being left alone for a hot minute.

  4. heygingersnaps says:

I hope the organisations/charity that he is a patron cancel or refuse to invite his pedo ass.
The level of delusion that the monarchy has is baffling but at the same time understandable, they live in this bubble where people around them keep telling them how it is their right to enjoy all this immense privilege without any accountability. I was indifferent to them but now I wish the UK would turn into a republic, the monarchy is just a giant leech of an institution.

    • Moose says:

I was thinking the same thing. If I was in a charity headed by PA I would be pushing to have him removed pronto…. very damaging to have a nonce associated with charitable works, especially NSPCC!

    • AnnaKist says:

I thought the same. Who would want him at one of their events after this monumental PR disaster, let alone what he’s been involved in? This is a trainwreck of a trainwreck. He needs to locate his hole and crawl back into it.

    • Mignionette says:

It’s already starting. KPMG amongst others have kicked him off their initiatives. The KPMG one is significant because it essentially signals to finance / industry that he is a reputational risk. Poeople don’t want any law enforcement agencies sniffing around them by default of association with Andrew.
That sort of cutting off takes away his rainmaker status and ability to generate the dodgy Bungs which have generated his 47Million fortune.

      He’s finished.

    • Peg says:

One down, how many others will follow.
The accountancy firm KPMG, stopped their funding for ‘Pitch@Palace’ Pedo Andy’s Charity.
Outward bound, is checking out their options.

  5. k says:

“Cock-a-hoop” is a phrase one doesn’t often hear.

  6. Mignionette says:

The EPITOME of delusional. However this does not surprise me. I’ve personally noticed that U/C white public school boys in the UK are incredibly thick and still live in this false fantasy world where the peasants hang onto their every word.

Andy is in for a SHOCK.

    • BayTampaBay says:

What is U/C? Sorry, I am a Yank!

    • Chelle says:

Yeah. He truly came off as a bored aristocrat, which he probably is, and it didn’t help him one bit. Among other things. I also believe people act differently around him. Sycophants and all.

      • Mignionette says:

I think Andy has the Princess Margaret syndrome thing where he lauds up his HRH even more-so that Charlie boy who is the heir apparent. After-all what else does he have to hold onto when technically he has to bow to Prince George when he enters a room.

      • Chelle says:

@Mignionette. It really is funny isn’t it. I have friend who due to a early May and late, late December relationship has a 2-year old uncle. She’s 40.🤪

Also, if Andrew is forced to publicly retreat due to internal pressures, he’s going to end up like his Uncle Edward.

      • Mignionette says:

@Chelle – I think it will be far worse for Andy because we live in the era of social media. That is why his only option is to retire from public life. The press harassment will be RELENTLESS from herein (as it should be).
Andy’s actions are VERY MUCH in the public interest and personally I feel he should face official police questioning under full caution with NO special treatment.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Awful Andy really lives in an alternate reality. I hope he is in for a very rude awakening.

I was absolutely delighted that I was proven right with the interview, i.e. that His Buffoon Highness was stupid enough to make things worse for himself. The Pervy Prince certainly delivered there. I know that he suffers from a lethal combination of stupidity and arrogance – I just hope that it will eventually catch up to him and that his world comes crashing down around his ears. It is the very least of what he deserves.

  7. My3cents says:

If the circumstance for this interview weren’t so appalling it would have been funny.
Is he going for an insanity defence? because from day to day it’s looking to be so.

  8. Jenns says:

I just watched episode 3 of The Crown, and while I won’t post any spoilers, that episode did remind me how out of touch the Queen can be. This is what happens when you live in a bubble and surround yourself with people who sugarcoat serious situations.

    • Nic919 says:

I have as well and it shows that she’s been out of touch for literally decades.

    • Becks1 says:

That was exactly my thought after watching that episode. I thought of Diana and the Queen’s reaction to her death, and now this, and I’m sure there are many many more examples. The queen isn’t doing a good job “reading the room” and seeing what people expect from her at this point, but maybe she has never been good at that.

  9. Iknow says:

I know it’s only a show, but as I was watching season 3 of The Crown, I kept thinking how awful Queen Elizabeth’s instincts are, and how awful the people around her are. And at 93, I’m sure her instincts and her people are even worse than when she was a young woman.

    • Jenns says:

I think one of the biggest thing I’ve learned from watching the show is how the Queen is not that smart. She knows royal procedure and protocol, horses and corgis. And that’s it. Everything else it outsourced to people around her and she takes little interest in what’s happening in her own country, or even under her own roof.

      • Mignionette says:

I will go further and say that the era of ‘the men in Grey suits’ was birthed under her reign.

She took over as Monarch at a young age in an era where Courtiers like Lacelle’s would have regarded her as a silly little girl. Add to that Philip’s bullish nature and Liz seeking to make herself smaller to appease him and it’s the perfect storm for courtiers enhancing their powers. Something that would not have happened with an older male monarch.

That said I also feel like the reluctant ineptitude of both her uncle Edward (who later abdicated) and her father had already set the wheels in motion for the heightened powers of the courtiers.

      • Tourmaline says:

@Mignionette – regarding reluctant ineptitude, of E VIII and G VI, and setting the stage for the rise of the courtiers, that is really interesting.

      • The Long-suffering Sequin says:

This is what I find most grating about the royal family – they’re mostly thick as two short planks. And yet we’re meant to bow to them? Fat chance. If I ever had to endure meeting one of them I wouldn’t bow or curtsy or whatever. Probably wouldn’t even shake their hand, you don’t know where it’s been.

  10. Lorelei says:

Doesn’t the Queen have all of the the newspapers laid out for her every morning? Even the less reliable ones. I could swear I read that she reads everything printed about the BRF, even nonsense that doesn’t require any action or response.

I saw speculation on Twitter yesterday that it’s possible she didn’t even watch it (which I find hard to believe, but who knows). If she didn’t watch it, I don’t even know what to say. That’s simply dereliction of duty if she’s unaware of what Andrew told the world and what the world’s reaction was.

    • dota says:

Nah, she only ever looks at the Sunday Sport newspaper. All of the others are just the same thing in a different layout.

    • notasugarhere says:

Yes, that’s how the family learned about Fergie and the toe sucking. The Queen read it in the morning paper while at Balmoral.

  11. morrigan01 says:

He really is the dumbest and most insular MFer in the Royal Family, isn’t he? Like, *damn.* That *he’s* supposedly her favorite says, well, not something very nice about the Queen sadly.

You know, I never bought much into the rumor that Andrew is supposedly a love child she had with her horse equerry (or whatever he was, something to do with horses) but now I’m actually starting to wonder . . . because the indulgence of him looks to be almost off the scale from her.

    • Mignionette says:

Andy is basically a chubby looking version of Philip. Sadly the spare is always considered the illegitimate one and the but of those jokes. It goes back to an old Aristocratic saying that once the wife has produced the heir she’s free to shag whomsoever she wants.

  12. S808 says:

Andrew obviously doesn’t live in reality and it’s another reason why I want him to go to jail even if only for 2 weeks like Felicity Huffman. He needs to be removed from the public eye for rest of his days. Take his free-loading ex-wife with him. Maybe, for the first time ever, he’ll realize actions have consequences.

I blame everyone involved, including the Queen. You’re the Boss and apparently everyone has to put the crown first except you? How could you let it get this bad with Andrew? “Not knowing” isn’t an excuse. You’re his mother AND Boss, you should know what a piece of shit your son is! His behavior is not her fault but he should’ve been reigned in YEARS ago.

  13. Joy says:

Man I bet Charles is LIVID.

    • Betsy says:

God, wouldn’t you be? First on a human level, to find out one’s brother isn’t a partner but is a rapist. Second the fact that the favorite is once again being allowed to get away with it by Mummy. Third, that all the work gone into modernizing the RF and then Andy goes ahead and reminds everyone what a total and complete anachronism they all are, above the law and etc? I’d be livid.

    • Chelle says:

Livid or elated? This might be the opening he was looking for to finally push Andrew out of the nest. Mummy.. .

  14. Guest2.0 says:

Wonder what Charles reaction was when he saw/heard about the Great Andrew interview? Will Chucky be able to talk sense into mummy about how much of a liability Andy is to the Crown? What a shit show.

  15. ira says:

Is it wrong if I thought courtiers actually gave idea for Andrew to do this interview, they knew it will be a mess so they could have legit reason to kick Andrew out.

    • Betsy says:

That was my first thought! That that Amanda knows full well what a horrible criminal and person he is and was like eff it, I’m willing to make a career change. The world should know!

    • Moneypenny says:

      That was my thought too.

  16. Rapunzel says:

Mommy will probably still have him at Sandringham and be pictured walking arm in arm with him.

    • Ana Maria says:

…until the bitter end the Queen will support him; really old people are very stubborn and will not admit mistakes and/or defeat

    • PrincessK says:

It is all going downhill for Andrew now. Recently he was in the ascendancy as after Philip retired from public life he seemed to be stepping in as his mother’s consort, accompanying her to events, standing next to her on the balcony and even polishing up his riding skills for the Trooping.

But he will continue to be seen with his mother at family events.

  17. GR says:

    @IRA – I bet you’re right!

  18. Jessica says:

Dear lord. This is why the monarchy should be abolished.

  19. Becks1 says:

I’m sure Andrew thought the interview was a great success. He got to tell his lies and his nonsense with only some pushback, and he got to talk about how important and honorable he is. He doesn’t realize that no one believed a word he said. And of course he’s going to tell the Queen about how great he was.

I do think that some of her courtiers are going to tell her the truth about how its being received; it seems to me that someone is picking up on the media backlash re: Andrew if they purposely did not drive to church together.

  20. I watched a documentary recently on the Commonwealth Canopy initiative and thought at the time that the Queen suffered dementia. I know that is blunt and speculations on ones health aren’t fair from snippets, but it makes me believe she really doesn’t comprehend the magnitude of this (combined with a lifetime in a bubble). The only way the Monarchy survives may be that she lets Charles take over now.
Get some pity PR and let Charles first act be to publicly denounce and remove Andrew.

  21. Coz' says:

Aides “don’t have the heart” to tell him how bad he sucked??? More like they don’t have the courage. And they probably know it wouldn’t change a thing.
This MFer probably does not take criticism at all since he’s been told his whole life he can do no wrong and he is the most precious thing to ever walk on this planet.

    • Jen says:

Isn’t that the whole point of the monarchy? Thinking you’re better than others by virtue of birth? Curtsying and bowing to your family members based on which of you was born first? Andrew is a huge problem, but this isn’t all an Andrew problem. It’s a “the monarchy has outlived its usefulness and reflects outdated values and thinking” problem.

  22. Snap Happy says:

I hope she hit him with her ever present purse.

    • IntheKnow says:

@snap, LOL. Not a time to laugh but funny imagery of her smacking him down with ‘her ever present purse’. I needed the laugh badly to I took it.

  23. Giddy says:

Yes, PA is definitely delusional, and just so resoundingly stupid that it’s incredible. TQ might not be brilliant, but at least she has had a true sense of duty. Andrew has none, just does the absolute minimum so that Mummy won’t be cross.

  24. Charfromdarock says:

    “He’s cock-a-hoop. “

They got the first word correct.

  25. notasugarhere says:

Charles can try to remove Andrew as a working royal one Charles is king. He could centralize all royal scheduling and give no assignments to Andrew. But everyone has to play ball with it, including all the other working royals (yeah right). All charities, the Foreign Office, and all of Andrew’s shady ‘business’ friends. No one could approach Andrew directly to have him attend events.

Remove his Sovereign Grant funding and make him pay for all his staff and security himself – which will never happen. Andrew loves the spotlight. He’s not going without a fight, piles of money, and promises regarding B&E. Charles cannot throw him out of the country and remove him as a Counsellor of State without legal permission either.

    • Mignionette says:

I think Andy will be gone before then.

    • Jen says:

The problem with this theory is that because Andrew loves the spotlight, I think if Charles were to try to push him aside, Andrew would threaten to leak damaging info about all of Charles’ family. You know he has it. He could say he would do interview after interview about everything.

I could see Charles allowing him to remain a royal and funded in exchange for his silence.

      • Mignionette says:

At this point this is out of Andy’s hands as a paedo adjacent Royal fast approaching 60, retirement is the only option.

      • notasugarhere says:

Jen, that’s why I think he wouldn’t go anywhere without piles of cash and a deal for Beatrice and Eugenie.

    • TheOtherSam says:

I believe Andrew’s been wheeling and dealing for a ‘deal’ re Bea & Eug for some time now anyway. If he were smart (not betting on that) he’d see the writing on the wall and get out of town, securing some minimal things for his daughters in exchange for a comfy landing in private retirement.

What I mean by ‘minimal things’: modest housing in KP (which Eug already has), continued inclusion at royal events such as BP Garden parties, Trooping balcony appearances, and the potential for pt royal work after the elder ranks thin out from retirement. Charles may have been all for allowing some of these anyways, as he’s fond of his nieces; but Andrew could make a deal to formalize it in exchange for disappearing early.

Part of the deal could involve stepping down as UK Counsellor of State. He could also be removed from that with an amendment to the 1937 Regency Act – a tough deal, but doable.

    • A says:

I think with the requisite outside pressure, Charles or even the Queen + her courtiers could be induced to do a great deal. It all depends on just how bad this story gets and how much more Andrew continues to f-ck himself over with his own behaviour.

I can see Andrew just forced into an early retirement outside of the public eye, very much in the same vein as Philip these days. He keeps his homes, he keeps his portion of the sovereign grant, so he has plenty of money, but he is no longer allowed to do anything in the public eye. I can easily see them inventing some type of medical issue with Andrew where he HAS to be out of the public eye from here until eternity. They trot him out for some select royal events and that’s it.

  26. Lindy says:

Even if Charles has some limitations about what he can do to get rid of Andrew when Charles finally ascends the throne, it does seem clear that Chucky sees reality better than the queen. And now I’m wondering if that’s why the queen refuses to step aside so Charles can take over? Because she’s determined to protect her favorite son until the bitter end?

I wonder if this will begin the end for the monarchy?

    • Tourmaline says:

She refuses to step aside because she pledged that she would stay in her role her whole life, whether it be long or short, but dayum it is turning out to be REALLY LONG. And that abdication is a dirty word in the BRF because of Edward VIII/Duke of Windsor.

There is a reason why other monarchies (Netherlands, Belgium, Spain…) have their monarchs retire and step aside for the younger generation to take over before the younger generation is, like Prince Charles, getting really old as well. She has always been out of touch and even if she is in great health at 93 there is no way she is has the energy to be managing messes like this in an effective manner!

      • Mignionette says:

The UK really is in need of constitutional reform and the absence of a written constitution is just a long standing ruse that allows the abuse of powers of the reigning monarch.

  27. carmen says:

No question Andy is arrogant and delusional. I find it interesting that the “royal pal” confided to a tabloid v.s. a more credible publication.

  28. Jumpingthesnark says:

Out of touch, no moral compass, thick as 2 planks. The BRF is going down…….

  29. Digital Unicorn says:

It was an unmitigated disaster and TQ will know this by now considering ALL the negative press it got. The Fail has a story basically outing Andrew as a touchy feely party boy complete with photo’s and video’s – these photo’s also show him sweating. This interview is the excuse the press needed to drop their load and go after him – this is only the beginning to the press tearing down his ‘alibi’. Its going to blow up like a nuclear bomb in the RF’s faces. TQ will have to take action against her favourite child.

    • Guest2.0 says:

I was wondering how much the tabloids were sitting on and just waiting to use against Andy. I guess the flood gates are open now thanks to Andy’s arrogance and stupidty.

  30. Tiffany says:

You would think that they knew the tide rose after Diana’s death re: media and how to play things.

Now factoring in social media with instant info and 24 hour news cycles, these people still have not learned anything. Well, when you have yes men around your entire life, you get what you deserve.

  31. Keeks says:

I feel bad for his daughters. I doubt the queen watched. I definitely think he’s that dumb and entitled that he believes that he is exonerated for this interview. He’s disgusting, and our only hope is that Charles is the one who abolishes him from sight. How humiliating for all, especially the victims he’s left in his wake.

    • Noodle says:

There have long been rumors that his daughters were used by Epstein as well. Imagine how sick THAT scenario is.

      • Betsy says:

What?! I never heard that one before.

      • Jaded says:

I’ve never heard any rumours to that effect. Epstein was at Bea’s 18th birthday party but in no way would they have been lured into his sick world. Please provide a link or details before making assumptions like this.

      • PrincessK says:

Both Eugenie and Beatrice have flown in Epstein’s jet and visited his private island. It has been mentioned on Twitter that their names were in the log book.

      • Mignionette says:

@Noodle I have never heard this. Do you have a link?
Eug and Bea did travel on the Lolita express once or twice and Epstein was present at ultra-lavish Bea’s 18th but to date there has been no mention of them being victims of Epstein.

  32. Rapunzel says:

New article on The Fail says QEII supports Andy and believes him 100%. She’s going all in on him. I hope it ruins her.

    • Tourmaline says:

Yep they are doubling down on Andrew. She and other senior royals back and believe him 100% — that is the message they want out there.

      Now what?

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Am not so sure about them believing him, TQ yeah she will always believe the sun shines outta his ass – its too late to do anything now as they’ve been going all out for him since it started.

The only way they will to something is if irrefutable evidence comes out proving the had sex with her AND the dodgy financial dealings. Am convinced they press have that evidence and are sitting on it waiting for when they can publish it without fear of being sued.

      • TheOtherSam says:

What other ‘senior royals’? His kids? Charles dislikes Andrew (won’t use the word ‘despise’ but that may apply), Anne has no use and would gather Edward and Sophie only merely tolerate him as well.

Its really unfortunate that TQ has this major blind spot. That combined with her elderly age doesn’t work for a comprehensive response to this mess. Charles needs to gather up his siblings, muscle up and make some major changes now, not later in terms of how Andrew is handled.

In short, he needs to overrule his mother. Which I believe he could do at this point.

  33. Miriam says:

No amount of time or Sussex hit pieces can bury this! That sweating excuse will haunt him.
I look forward to seeing the first charities to dump him

  34. BeanieBean says:

Interesting, because I was perusing photos on the DM last night (can’t help myself) & they ran a photo of the queen going to church by herself yesterday.

  35. Molly says:

    National embarrassment.

  36. Tourmaline says:

Now reading that quote above from the Sun I am wondering what the heck Margaret Thatcher’s son Mark did…..I feel confident it wasn’t quite as bad as this though?

    • Juliette says:

Mark Thatcher plead guilty and was convicted of attempting a coup in Guinea.

He is barred from the USA because of his conviction. He went to Monaco on a 1 year visa which wasn’t renewed so tried for Switzerland who also denied him. He eventually settled in Gibraltar. His name also came up in the Panama Papers apparently. It was bad but definitely not in the same arena as being a pedo.

  37. Mrs.Krabapple says:

People will eventually forget about this, and/or look the other way because that’s the price of having a royal family. “Just let this generation of royals pass and the next one will be better.” The way people still love the Queen, even though her family are notorious bigots. Because she’s “the Queen.” What has she ever accomplished in her life that wasn’t handed to her on a platinum platter? But it doesn’t matter, we have to listen to her and love her because she’s “the Queen.” People who don’t know any other form of State can put up with a lot for the sake of tradition and continuity.

  38. Jessica says:

The US needs to go after him. He may have immunity in UK, but he committed crimes in the US and no one is above the law!

    • Tourmaline says:

Well, that is why it is said that Andrew cannot travel to the US in the future, because the FBI could stop him for questioning, etc. But the FBI doesn’t have broad international jurisdiction and isn’t going to be able to get to Andrew in the UK unless UK law enforcement facilitates it—doubtful.

    • Peg says:

The US Senate or House is calling in the Anchor to testify about why ABC killed her story and proof that BP had a hand in it.
They should call in the victims.
You would be surprise at how many people are above the law, they should not be, but big bucks usually wins.

      • Tourmaline says:

Yeah, right wing Republican Congressman Kevin McCarthy wants Amy Robach to testify, it is because Project Veritas is a right wing organization, and what McCarthy is really interested in is the Epstein connection to “liberal elites” Clinton et al–British royals is collateral to his interest. Their talking point is in a nutshell that evil Hillary C. ordered the murder of Epstein.

At any rate I am heartened that Virginia Giuffre has David Boies one of the most powerful attorneys in the U.S. as her legal counsel.

      • Peg says:

I don’t think the US can touch Pedo Andy, he was not the one trafficking the girls, he had use of their bodies.
Not to be funny, but ‘Epstein was murdered’ is popping up allover the place, in the snow outside Denver or Chicago airport, at the end of an interview on fOX.

      • Tourmaline says:

        @Peg
I agree I would think that Ghislaine Maxwell and the others who worked directly for Jeffrey Epstein
        (such as these women: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/29/nyregion/jeffrey-epstein-ghislaine-maxwell.html)
are much higher priority targets for US law enforcement than Prince Andrew or other Epstein friends.

      • Maria says:

Of course he’s a high priority target — he can give information that no one else can.

      • morrigan01 says:

If the FBI have Andrew as any type of high priority, it’s to talk to him for any info he might have about Ghislaine Maxwell’s wearabouts. She’s been MIA since August of this year. And Andrew, because he has no common sense smarts whatsoever, said on TV that he was close friends with *her* not Epstein in trying to downplay his association with the man.

So yeah, I think if Andrew even dares to step foot in the US, he will immediately be detained by the Feds. However, I don’t think they are going to jump though extradition hoops to try and get him over here to the US.

      • Can’tbe says:

Lots of half truths on comments now. No congressional inquiry on Epstein interview not aired on ABC. Only Kevin McCarthy republican nut bag wanting to talk to them about it, but to get something on Clinton. Cause that’s all republicans care about if Andrew was a Clinton they’d so go after him. McCarthy claims ABC knew about sex trafficking first, not true though. FBI was investigating then and Jim Acosta one of Trump’s recently gone cabinet was the DA who gave Epstein a sweetheart deal in 2010, but McCarthy doesn’t see the need to investigate how that happened. Luckily the Dems do, but they are a bit busy now with impeachment. Also, Boise was thrown out as Guiffre’s attorney. She now has Chris Cooper. Finally, Boise is suing Dershowitz for defamation too with this case.

      • morrigan01 says:

        @ Can’tbe

Boise is still her lawyer when it comes to the specific Epstein stuff. Chuck Cooper is her lawyer specifically wrt the defamation suite Alan Dershowitz brought against her because he was brining a similar suite against Boise’s law firm.

        https://abovethelaw.com/2019/11/dershowitz-wanted-to-get-boies-disqualified-so-now-he-has-to-deal-with-another-famous-scotus-litigator/

    • Mrs.Krabapple says:

Whatever the real reason for Andrew’s trip to the USA was, IF Andrew were to face any consequences, it will be declared that he was acting as the Queen’s emissary during the trip and therefore has diplomatic immunity. There is ZERO chance the royal family will ever allow law enforcement to get Andrew.

      • Can’tbe says:

Plus the victim says she was forced by Epstein in the 2010 testimony. She says in interviews later Andrew knew about it, but not who told him. Pretty sure it wasn’t her, cause that would be weird if you are a forced sex slave and you admit it to the men. I feel like it will be hard to prove he knew she was not doing it willingly. Plus 17 is the age of consent in every state she said it happened in. You could try to get him on rape, but see the problems add in that he is part of the royal family and has a load of money I don’t see anyone in the US prosecuting. It seems unlikely.

  39. Moneypenny says:

The Queen probably thinks this is a “boys will be boys” situation and one where a young woman is “crying rape” because Andrew wasn’t interested in her or something. Disgusting.

  40. Andrea says:

I think it is now clear that the Queen favors Andrew for whatever reason, maybe because she actually paid attention to him when he was young, unlike Charles? I wonder how she feels about Edward? Regardless, she has the my boy can do no wrong mentality.

I don’t understand how one is unwilling to see that one’s child is not perfect. Same goes for one’s parents. I realized several years ago how deeply flawed my parents are and cannot believe how many people paint corrupt/cheating parents as saints.

    • Can’tbe says:

I wouldn’t give up on the Queen just yet. She has always moved at a glacial pace. She takes a while to take action and always has. If in a month or so Andrew is still doing the church walk with mommy then give up on her. I wouldn’t be surprised if she comes up with a scenario where Andrew is shipped off somewhere out of public site.

      • starryfish29 says:

This scandal has been part of the discussion around Andrew for 15 years now. The polar ice caps are melting faster than she’s moving.

  41. YankLynn says:

Andrew was just begging for the papers to dig up every sweaty, hands-y picture of him thats around after that laughable claim. The DM’s alone are enough to prove his lie never mind whatever else will come out in the weeks and months ahead. His hands are all over those women, one is even licking him *gag* So much for the “I don’t really hug” defense. And as an earlier poster pointed out – look at the enlarged pupils.

I suppose its possible that the Queen gets a filtered analysis of the interview but I can’t believe multiple royals aren’t seeing this coverage. You know Sarah Ferguson has been inhaling it and talking to him about it. The NY Post (I know, tabloid) reported that no one on his staff agreed this interview was a good idea and that his special PR person resigned over his insistence on doing the interview. I wouldn’t want my professional reputation linked to him either.

  42. Paige says:

This is terrifying. I’ve never before wished for the end of the monarchy, but it’s very clear that they are not fit to represent the “Commonwealth” or anyone ever. And I take great comfort in the idea that if the monarchy is abolished, Meghan and Harry will THRIVE despite of it because they will have plenty of legitimate opportunities to earn a living. The rest will have no other choice but to rely on their own existing private wealth or go the way of Fergie and reality show grifters.

  43. Coco says:

I was just thinking about the Dread Mystery Sweat-lessness.
If, as he claimed, he wasn’t able to sweat for 30 years or more (from the Falklands 1982 until he found a ‘recent’ cure), he would never have been able to travel anywhere tropical and would have been in danger even outside on a hot day. People unable to sweat can actually die from heat related complications. According to the Mayo Clinic site about the conditions of hypohydrosis or anhidrosis, it is prudent to carry around a spray bottle to mist yourself down. Is there photo evidence of him doing that?
Also, causes of the condition include genetics, skin damage or conditions, diabetes, alcoholism, and use of drugs such as morphine or Botox. Conditions do not include having been a Very Brave Boy.

    • What. . .now? says:

LOL! His Buffoon Highness is such a ridiculous, lying fool! How easy will it be for publications to dig up photos of him in tropical places?? Sweating his ass off? OMG. I hope it’s nothing but page after page of photos in upcoming publications! Tool!

  44. MariaS says:

People like Prince Andrew, by the sheer accident of their birth, are at the top of the food chain but stupidly believe they arrived there by their brilliance and innate superiority. Seeing them fall is deeply satisfying.

  45. A says:

I sincerely refuse to believe that the Queen is so stupid that she doesn’t know anything about how badly this went down. I can believe that the Queen is surrounded by sycophants who have it in their best interest to talk up Andrew’s disaster of an interview and downplay any of the negative responses that he’s gotten from the media, and that Andrew himself is just not bothering to realize how much of a sh-tshow he’s in right now. But the Queen, I have to believe, has to have some amount of awareness. She doesn’t watch the news? Or read the papers? Seriously? That’s just really difficult for me to believe.

  46. Can’tbe says:

Piers Morgan just slammed this interview and Andrew, and Piers likes established royals not married to American actresses. You know you’ve lost it when he say this makes all the Harry and Meghan hijinks seem so small in comparison. Yes even he said it. Sure it’s obvious to all of us, but not Piers.

I think we need to wait on how the Queen will respond. Cause she takes her time, and in fairness it’s her family so I do understand her wanting to give him the benefit of the doubt, but come on it’s now time to put him and all of us out of our misery. Make him retire from public life. I doubt she thinks it went well.

    • Mignionette says:

Piers is a hypocrite and right wing schill. His sole purpose is to stir up hate amongst the baying masses. He does that by using his crib sheet from his head honcho Murdoch, but will change course of his attacks when he realises that the public will not buy his sh*T.

Part of being a public troll is picking up on the mood of the masses and running with it. Up until recently PM would not touch the topic of Prince Andrews bc (1) he is part of the establishment (2) PM wants access to the other Royals he is working in concert with to smear Meghan and (3) he doesn’t want to be sued.

But given that Andy has become a trending topic (disaster) and he himself has opened the doors to criticism by doing this interview then the pile on can now commence. But notice that the charge of well constructed criticism is still only coming from non traditional royal commentators who have no real dog in this fight. The so called Royal Reporters are still luke warm at best in their criticism to retain access to Will and Kate thus allowing them to continue to skewer Meghan for clicks.

  47. greenteaandrosehip says:

Andrew to mummy after interview…”Nailed it!”

  48. starryfish29 says:

This entire family is absolute garbage. Despite what they’d have you believe they are just a bunch of entitled fools, whose only concern is getting to live their privileged lives on the taxpayer’s dime while protecting their own massive unearned wealth. Honestly, the Queen might be the worst of the bunch. She so deeply believes in her divine right to rule over the plebes that she enables the horrible behavior of the rest of them. She doesn’t care about projecting stability & duty (blah blah blah), the only stability she cares about is being able to maintain her boring stodgy old life, breeding horses and going shooting in peace. She’s so divorced from the reality of normal brits that she’s willing to protect her pedo son while actively undermining Harry & Meghan who are the best thing to happen to the royal family in decades, their type of appeal is the only hope the monarchy has for relevancy in the future, but this family of grifters is too blind to see it. In the past few years, I’ve gone from being completely ambivalent towards The Queen to actively disliking her. If she was held to any level of account, she’d be out of a job and her whole entitled brood along with her.

  49. Christa says:

What astonishes me is that it seems like no prep was done for the interview. He agreed to do an interview with a real journalist. Anyone who knows anything about media would have had him do practice questions and filmed it to see how he comes across. Or thought about the potential response to some of his really weak claims. there’s plenty of stuff out there about his partying ways. As the British tabloids proved. It just seems like no one on his team thought this through critically… except maybe the guy who resigned!!

  50. liriel says:

Disaster. But behind the scenes – Christa, you’re right – Andrew came off as unprepared. But finally the time for Andrew came. TQ might like him but hey, the public turned on him already.

  51. L4frimaire says:

The Atlantic offers a fairly good analysis of this terrible interview, including his utter lack of remorse for Epstein’s victims. Andrew will continue to be supported, short of some incriminating video being released. Those guys at the palace really don’t get it and don’t want to. It explains their appalling behavior towards the Sussexes for the past three years. All they care about is their privilege and what they think they deserve and are entitled to. Mustn’t upset the order of things just because inconvenient people don’t know how to stay silent when they are abused or exploited.
