People: Duchess Meghan ‘felt a bit rusty’ on a film set, but she was ‘great’

A week ago, the Duchess of Sussex was seen and photographed on a studio backlot. We quickly learned, via an exclusive from the Sun, that Meghan had taken a small role in the MGM/Amazon film Close Personal Friends. The Sussexes’ team wasn’t squirrelly about the news – after the Sun published their exclusive, People Mag got a confirmation about Meghan’s cameo role and we learned that she spent a day or two working on the film. Hilariously, there were also claims that Meghan has always fielded tons of offers but this was the first time she felt like saying yes. All in all, it was bad news for the Other Brother, who pitifully fumed and raged about how everyone “sabotaged” his big, keen trip to Brazil. Tom Sykes even claimed that “Meghan Markle’s PR team then leaked news of her ‘return to acting’ to The Sun midweek, instantly derailing British coverage of the Earthshot Prize.” LMAO. Meghan didn’t leak sh-t to the Sun, but I think her team did confirm the news to People, as I said. In any case, Meghan was nervous about stepping onto a film set after all this time!

Meghan Markle is excited to be back on set. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, is making her return to acting in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends, where she’ll play herself in a small part.

Meghan was photographed on the Pasadena, California, set on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and an insider tells PEOPLE, “She introduced herself as ‘Meghan.’ Everything about her was very sweet and calm.”

“She genuinely seemed excited to be on set,” the insider adds. “She was joking that she felt a bit rusty, but it was obvious that she had rehearsed and that it was a big deal for her to be back. And she was great.”

“She had a very warm energy, too. She was super pleasant to be around,” the source says.

PEOPLE has reached out to a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex for comment.

Close Personal Friends — starring Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid and Henry Golding — will follow a couple who befriend a famous couple during a trip to Santa Barbara, per The Hollywood Reporter.

“It was obvious that she had rehearsed and that it was a big deal for her to be back.” So cute. Of course she rehearsed! Of course she was prepared! That’s her whole deal, being prepared and working hard. It’s nice to hear that she had a good time and that people were happy to see her. I haven’t really considered the idea that she might take on more acting work, but if she wants to do it, then so be it. It reminds me of when Netflix got the rights to stream the entire run of Suits, years after it aired, and suddenly Suits was the biggest TV show ever, with millions of people binge-watching it. I wonder if a few directors and producers took note of that.

I love Brie Larson! I’m really excited to see this. It has a lot of potential based on that short snippet about the film. I wonder which way they are gonna go with it. Comedy? Drama? Thriller?

Meghan herself said it was always hard to describe what she did because she always did a little bit of everything. Acting, philanthropy, blogging, writing, designing capsule collections etc., and I so enjoy seeing her get back to that. It would have been impossible with babies but now with both kids in school she can stretch and explore. In 2025 alone we’ve had a new podcast series, a new season of WLM, launching As Ever, work with the Archewell Foundation, work with IG, attending a fashion show and now a cameo in a movie.

    Meghan’s cup is delightfully full.

That’s an interesting, strong cast list and the concept sounds cute and fun! I don’t see many movies in the theaters anymore but I’ll make an effort for this one.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Meghan in more roles but I don’t foresee her doing anything that would mean a lot of super long days on set. Which is what most roles entail, unless it’s cameos or very very small roles.

We know that at least the producers of Suits would be more than happy to work with Meghan whenever she feels like taking a role. Others wouldn’t snub her either. This movie gets a lot of attention simply for Meghan will have a small cameo. Every producer worth their money would jump on the chance to have Meghan and the free publicity even if she couldn’t act. That she is good is a bonus.

I’m excited for this and I’m happy that she’s able to take the time to decide what is right for her. She doesn’t have to live her life based on what random people who don’t know or like her think she should or shouldn’t do. She’s in an era of her life when she can enjoy all the beautiful aspects of life with her beautiful little family. I look forward to seeing this movie and all that she has coming in the future.

  6. Harla says:

    I’ll definitely be watching!

  7. Amy Bee says:

I don’t have amazon prime so I won’t see this movie but I’m happy for her. If she wants to do more, it’s fine. I hope she was paid very well.

  8. Elizabeth says:

Brie Larson just released a cookbook/entertainment book. I wonder if the two of them shared any tips between set-ups? I would love to see Brie and Meghan do an episode of As Ever, maybe devoted to dinner parties.

  9. Advisor2U says:

It has been almost two years since its announcement, but we haven’t heard much about her (Archewell Production’s) own movie production/adaptation of “Meet Me at the Lake”. I wonder how that is going. Or maybe it’s off the table?
