Jessica Alba in Labor

A rumor is starting to swirl that Jessica Alba is about to give birth to her baby girl. This may go the way of Angelina Jolie’s false birth reports, but I find Alba’s possible labor believable.

A CBB reader emailed us early this morning to say that she spotted Jessica Alba, expecting a daughter at any time, being wheeled into Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. The reader reports that Jessica’s husband Cash Warren was also on hand, carrying birthing balls, and was seen standing alongside security guard.

[Celebrity Baby Blog]

The last photos of Alba showed her ready to burst at any moment. She lounged in a pool floating around on a raft looking in good spirits. Jessica is also rumored to be overdue. Her due date is thought to have been in the last week or two of May. Other sources claim that she has about two months left before she is due.

A slew of celebrity babies have made their way into the world and magazines are hot to get their hands on the first photos. The Jolie-Pitt twins’ first photo is said to be worth millions. While Joe Simpson has been busy trying to sell Ashlee Simpson’s photo to the highest bidder, no magazines have yet made an effort to score Alba’s first born.

“I haven’t really gotten any - not that I’m aware of. You have to understand, everything that is written is kind of bull.”

[Celebrity Baby Blog]

The only baby I am interested in spending $3 on to buy an issue of People with their face plastered on the cover is Halle Berry’s little one. I bet she is gorgeous and her first word will be Oscar.

Jessica Alba is shown shopping at Miu Miu in Beverly Hills on 5/23/08, thanks to WENN.

Vin Diesel is a dad

Action star Vin Diesel, 40, and his girlfriend, 24 year-old model Paloma Jimenez, had a baby girl on April 2 and are just announcing it now.

Am I the only one who assumed that Vin Diesel was gay? You would think that if he had a steady girlfriend he would bring her to events and paparazzi target restaurants to make it known, but Diesel is a private person and prefers to stay out of the tabloids. Maybe that’s how those rumors that he’s of the other persuasion got started.

Congratulations to Vin and Paloma, and their new arrival. People Magazine notes that Diesel is starring in and producing Fast and Furious, which will be out in June of next year, and that he also has Babylon AD coming out at the end of August.

Here are some pictures of Diesel’s hot girlfriend and the mother of his baby, Paloma Jimenez, who was born in Acapulco, Mexico. [via Fashionmodeldirectory.]
Vin Diesel is shown at One Race Global Film Foundation at The Bellagio on 1/18/08.

Bias against Southerners evident in coverage of Jamie Lynn story

People Magazine has a nice story about how Jamie Lynn Spears, 17, and her fiance, Casey Aldridge, are setting up their new home in Liberty, Mississippi to prepare for their life together and their new baby, due soon. They have a house on five acres and have purchased typical furniture for a new home, including a four poster bed, a leather sofa and a canopy bed. The nursery for the new baby will feature pink, brown, and silver-green, and is being designed with the help of Jamie Lynn’s mother, Lynne.

Their property has a barn on it, because that’s what you typically find on larger property. It’s called a barn, not a garage, when it’s big and features more storage. I grew up in the Northeast and we had a barn. My parents now live in Virginia, and they have a barn on their new property. It’s common and not news.

Instead of covering the story that Jaime Lynn and Casey are settling into their new home and waiting for their baby, TMZ took the small fact that there was a barn on their land and used the misleading and rude headline “Jamie Lynn’s Baby Will Grow Up in a Barn.”

When I first read that, I thought that they were buying a big barn and converting it into a house, something that is more common lately. The results are often striking, with rustic-looking aesthetically pleasing structures that are just as comfortable as a regular home. But no, Casey and Jamie Lynn are just going to have a barn on their land and of course the baby is not going to live there.

If you have nothing funny to say just report the story, TMZ, and not your blatant bias against anyone who doesn’t live in a large city. I know I should just accept that TMZ is tasteless, rude and can be incredibly offensive, but that doesn’t mean they should continue to get away with it.

Update: And there’s also a crack about Asian people not being able to digest alcohol in that same article recapping the news. I don’t know why I even bother.

Christina Aguilera calls partying criticism “mean spirited”

On Tuesday MSat wrote a story that incited a lot of debate asking why new mom Christina Aguilera is able to go out partying and get wasted while Nicole Richie gets vilified for just making an appearance. Commenters Jag and Jenna mentioned that Aguilera’s clownish face doesn’t sell magazines while Nicole Richie does. Richie’s partying gets noticed as she’s a former drug addict and has a DUI under her belt, as many of you pointed out. A lot of people also noted that Aguilera does get trashed by the press for getting visibly drunk.

MSat’s position on the story, one that I share, is that of course Aguilera should be able to go out if she wants to, but that it’s not fair that Nicole Richie gets blasted for going to events while Aguilera gets a pass for being wild and drunk.

Now Aguilera has responded to people saying she’s a bad mom or should somehow stay home every night with her nearly five-month-old son, Max. She says that she’s home with him all day every day and would like some time out at night with her husband without people jumping on her for it. But she’s used to the criticism anyway as a famous person:

“Once in a while, if I want to go out and have a mommy-daddy night with my husband, I am more than allowed to do that,” the singer – who gave birth to son Max Liron in January – told Access Hollywood…

“I spend all day with my son,” Aguilera, 27, told the TV show – adding that any criticism of her late-night outings with husband Jordan Bratman is downright “mean spirited.”

“Everybody has an opinion and everybody sometimes wants to cause drama,” she said. “But it’s something that comes with what you do and I learned that very early on.”

[From People.com]

Aguilera is not my favorite person, but I agree with her. When you become a mom, people want to butt in and tell you what you should do and how you should raise your child. It doesn’t seem like the wisest idea to get wasted at a high-profile club if you’re famous, but that’s her prerogative and it’s not like she’s neglecting her son. And if she was, she has a nanny and help and you assuume he’s getting good care.

As a mom, especially when my son was younger than a year old, I did not chose to go out to bars or clubs and I probably didn’t get enough date nights with my husband, either. I can say that Aguilera looks foolish cutting loose, but I wouldn’t call her a bad mom and as MSat said she’s just blowing off steam.

Christina Aguilera is shown yesterday outside a friend’s house, where there was a party for her husband’s birthday, thanks to WENN.

Bridget Moynahan talks about being a single mom

Bridget Moynahan at the premiere of “Noise” on 11/7/07, thanks to Splash
Since her breakup with New England Patriot Tom Brady and her decision to have his child post-breakup, actress Bridget Moynahan has kept pretty quiet about the details of her life as a single mom- until now. In her new interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Moynahan gives us some insight into how she really felt about being pregnant alone while her ex was frolicking with Gisele Bundchen. I’ll give you a hint: it sucked!

The first thing Bridget Moynahan did when she returned home from the hospital last August with her newborn son, John, was cry. Uncontrollably.

She had dated Brady for three years, but in February 2007 she found herself in a complicated situation. She was three months pregnant with his child but no longer in a relationship with him. Though she says, “There’s no reason why my son years down the line would need to read anything [personal] about his mother or his father,” it’s common knowledge that Brady has since moved on with Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen, 27. Meanwhile, Moynahan is raising her son alone (though Brady does spend time with Jack).

“When you’re suddenly pregnant and no one is standing by your side, even if you’re in your 30s, it’s a hard conversation. I’m a traditional girl, and I believe in marriage, and I just always thought that’s the way I’d be doing this,” she says. “For a moment, it was hard for me to accept that this was the way I was going to have a family.”

She gave birth to John – whom she gave her last name – last August. “I walk in and just started sobbing,” she says of coming home alone with her son. “All of a sudden, you have this newborn you have no training for. It’s frightening.”

But having family and friends like I, Robot costar Will Smith rally around her, made it easier. “I got so much out of that,” she says of that “traumatic time of being heartbroken” and pregnant. “It’s golden and it’s tough and it was f—ed up. But now I have a child, and it’s the best thing in the world.”

[From Harper’s online]

As a single mom, I know that sometimes, when you are worn down and doing everything yourself, you do get resentful of the absentee father, who skipped out on all the hard parts of being a parent. It doesn’t seem fair sometimes. I have a lot of respect for Bridget. It would be easy for her to trash Tom Brady in the media, and she refuses to do so for her son’s sake. It’s too bad other celebs can’t show the same restraint for their children’s benefit. Some day, little John (who looks exactly like his dad, by the way) is going to be old enough to ask questions about the situation between his parents, and his mom will have the benefit of being able to tell him the truth without a bunch of old media clipping haunting her.

Angelina planning a natural birth; won’t go full term with twins

Angelina Jolie is hoping to have a natural delivery for the upcoming birth of her twins. According to an “insider” (gotta love those anonymous, chatty insiders) Angelina was planning on a natural birth with 2-year-old daughter Shiloh and was disappointed when she had to have a C-section instead. This time Angie’s really hoping to go the natural route – twice.

Amid swirling reports that Angelina Jolie is on bed-rest and close to giving birth — so close, that the French media jumped the gun and announced the actress had already delivered her twins last week — the heavily pregnant actress has begun telling friends that she hopes to give birth naturally to her twin girls.

“She prepared for a natural child birth for Shiloh and was very disappointed when her doctors told her she would have to undergo a Cesarean section,” a source close to Angelina tells OK!. “She is praying everything will go her way and she will be able to enjoy a natural birth.”

[From OK! Magazine]

According to OK! Brad and Angie are quasi-fanatical about the safety of their babies. Luckily they don’t sound like they’re J-Lo crazy, and aren’t requiring surgical masks and hand sanitizer dispensers be installed around their home. But they do have a plethora of security, along with a midwife and two private nurses. The source also says there’s no way Angelina will be able to go full term with the babies.

The most important thing to Angie, however is to protect her babies. The actress and her partner Brad Pitt are taking every pre-caution to ensure a safe delivery, reserving a private birthing room at Le Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace in Monaco, and hiring a midwife and two French nurses who are currently staying with her at Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen’s compound in St.-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

“Whether Angelina experiences natural childbirth or has a scheduled C-section, she will not go to full term with the twins,” the source says. “She’s been told to expect the babies early, and that was the reason she and Brad went early to France — so they would be ready for their babies whenever they decide to make their appearance.”

[From OK! Magazine]

It sounds like they’re putting in the expected amount of planning for massive celebrity babies. Twins seem to be all the rage right now. Julia Robert, Jennifer Lopez, and now Angelina. I bet she ordered them that way; gotta stay trendy.

Here’s Angelina at the “Kung Fu Panda” Photocall in Cannes on May 15th. Images thanks to PR Photos.

Jennifer Lopez’s mom is staying with her and helping with the twins

Last week, Marc Anthony called into a radio show and talked about how he and his mega rich wife, Jennifer Lopez, are caring for their three-month-old twins, Max and Emme, without the help of nannies, butlers, or even anyone else. He said “It’s just us… we’re figuring it out and having a great time.” He also talked about how he was assigned overnight duty with the twins and that his shift is from 10pm to 8am. Maybe by “us,” Anthony meant his mother-in-law too, because she’s been staying in the couple’s mansion on Long Island and helping out:

Jennifer Lopez’s mother, Guadalupe, is such a doting grandmother to babies Emme and Max that she’s now livin in her daughter’s Long Island estate. “Jennifer has been having her mom stay at their home to help out with the kids. She likes having her around, even if it’s just to ask her advice,” says an insider…

J.Lo, 38, and Marc, 39… are hands-on parents, too, but they still listen to Guadalupe

[From In Touch, print edition, June 9, 2008]

The In Touch article came out late last week, and was published ahead of Marc’s interview, so if it’s accurate his mother in law was already living with them at that point.

Grandmothers love taking care of their grandchildren and it’s not like it’s a hardship for Guadalupe to live in luxury and watch her daughter’s adorable babies. Anthony wasn’t being entirely truthful when he said “it’s just us,” though. They surely have a maid along with J.Lo’s mom to care for their children and allow them time to go out alone. Many families have that arrangement, but they also acknowledge it by telling friends that their mother is living with them. They don’t have a public image to consider, though.

Lopez and Anthony were recently spotted at Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ housewarming party in Beverly Hills. I wonder if they brought the babies with them or left them with grandma.

Guadaulpe Lopez is shown below at the NY premiere of El Cantante on 7/26/07. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony are shown at the Costume Institute Gala on 5/5/08. Thanks to WENN.

Gwyneth Paltrow plans another baby

Gwyneth Paltrow is on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, looking warm and happy and completely different to how she has recently appeared on magazine covers. Inside she talks about planning to expand her family, saying that she’d love to have at least one more child.

“I may force myself to do it one more time because the result is so worth it,” the Oscar winner says in the July issue of Harper’s Bazaar. “My mother loved each [pregnancy] to bits; she felt alive and beautiful. I wanted to throw up all the time.”

The 35-year-old mother to Apple, 4, and Moses, 2, adds that she’s “very open” to adoption, factoring in the expansion of her family with husband Chris Martin.

“I do feel we’re so fortunate, and we kind of owe it to humanity,” she says. “We have a lot of love to give and a lot of resources.”

People

She needs to ‘force’ herself to have another baby? She feels she ‘owes it to humanity’? Gwyneth, no one is forcing you to add another member to your family, you’ve done your duty, you’ve got two, whose names shall endlessly amuse us.

I wonder if Gwyneth is turning into Madonna - Madonna also has a daughter and a son, with odd names, and a younger child that is adopted. Gwyneth and Madonna have been pictured dressed in similar outfits together quite a bit recently, and have become firm friends. They are both Americans living in London and married to British men. Is Gwyneth suffering from that thing where your friend gets a great haircut that looks really good, and you have to go and get it cut to see if it looks good on you, a la Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes? Unlike the haircut that you can grow out, adopting a baby is a bit more permanent. Good on Gwyneth for wanting to help out a needy child, all the same.

Gwyneth added that she still wants to make movies, saying that “It’s something within you, something that burns,” she explains. “It’s not a hobby, it’s a need.” She’s talked in the past about how hard it was to return to work after having children, Gwyneth suffered from post-natal depression and probably found it harder than most mothers, even if she could afford plenty of help. We’ve talked here before about how Gwyneth obviously has it easier than other parents returning to the workforce, but just by saying that she has a need to create, I think she shows that even for the most wealthy and successful of us still has to fight for her own identity after being lost to motherhood for several years. It is really hard to come back to such a competitive industry after 6 years away, I’m amazed that she would want to go through it all again with another baby.

Gwyneth Paltrow is shown in the header at a Two Lovers photocall in Cannes on 5/20/08. She is shown below in a still from Harper’s Bazaar.

Christina Aguilera parties more than Nicole Richie but gets away with it

Here’s a question for you: why have there been countless articles about Nicole Richie partying too much with a little baby at home, but not a single article written about Christina Aguilera, who is photographed stumbling out of nightclubs on a weekly basis? Their babies are the exact same age, but somehow, it’s Nicole who gets vilified in the press for attending a few movie premieres and concerts. Is it because Nicole has a hard partying past and is involved with a rocker, while pop princess Christina has no such baggage? While I’m not a big fan of Nicole Richie, I haven’t seen a single photo of her drunkenly exiting a club, but we’ve seen several of Aguilera. How does she get away with it?

Here are the most recent photo of Christina partying at The Palms in Las Vegas on Saturday. I know pictures don’t always tell the whole story, but she looks pretty wasted to me. Of course, the title of the article is “Christina Aguilera likes to have fun,” not “Christina Aguilera is torn between motherhood and partying!” which is what the title would be if it were Nicole. How is this fair?

Don’t get me wrong- everyone deserves to blow off some steam at the end of a hard work week, even a new mom with a baby at home. But it’s not fair to crucify one new mom for doing it, while giving another one a free pass.

What do you guys think?

Halle Berry says being a mother is the most beautiful time of her life

Star Magazine has an original interview with new mom Halle Berry, and the way the Oscar-winning actress talks about motherhood you can tell she’s cherishing every moment with her newborn daughter. Halle had Nahla Ariela two months ago and has yet to command millions for a photo spread with the newborn or even release a picture. 41-year-old Halle says she’s cherishing being a mother and it’s something she waited a long time for.

Halle talks about a period in her life when she almost burnt out from working too hard. She says she’s looking forward to easing up on her work schedule now so that she can focus on being a mom. As for getting her body back, she says she works out an hour a day five times a week with a personal trainer.

Are you enjoying becomina mother at last?
This is the most beautiful time of my life. Having a baby has made me so happy and fulfilled, I just can’t express in words how I really feel. To be able to nurse and bond with my daughter is such a joy. It’s been a long, long wait!

Did you know you were going to have a girl?
Gabriel and I both agreed that we would rather not know and let it be a wonderful surprise. I just felt a lot more comfortable not knowing.

Has Nahla brought the two of you closer together?
From the beginning, Gabriel was someone I felt I could feel very close and loving to, and I also knew from early on that he was the kind of man who would love a cihld as much as me. I’m happy just being with a man who loves me unconditionally and is looking forward to the future with me.

Has being a mom changed your approach to your acting career?
I’m definitely going to work less. I used to put so much pressure on myself to succeed that it often made me very unhappy in my personal life, and I felt on the verge of burning out three or four years ago. Also, I feel having a baby will open up a whole new world for me. I think I’ll actually find better roles, because I’ve gotten past being the ingenue and sex symbol.

But you look as gorgeous as ever! Was it tough getting back into shape?
It’s been kind of tough. But I have a great trainer [LA-based trainer Ramona Braganza] and we’ve been working out an hour a day, five days a week, for the past month. I didn’t want it to take five months to get back my figure. It was something I wanted to take care of now and just not worry about. I feel really good.

Have you been able to fit in any other time for yourself?
Well, Nahla is keeping me pretty busy with feedings, but it’s always a pleasure to oblige. Gabriel and I also plan to sleep again in a few months, as soon as Nahla’s nighttime feeding schedule allows!

[From Star Magazine, print edition, June 9, 2008]

Halle really sounds like she’s so happy to finally be a mom and that it means a lot to her to be there for her newborn daughter. I like how she explains that she’s going to continue working but that won’t push herself as much. She has three movies that start filming later in the year, according to Star. IMDB lists five upcoming films for her.

Halle was seen out shopping this weekend, and she looks great. Her workout schedule sounds pretty reasonable too.

Halle Berry is shown out shopping with her mom on 5/31/08, thanks to WENN.
