Carnie Wilson still over 200 pounds: ‘I’m looking forward to exercising’

Carnie Wilson and Tracey Gold and their families are starring on Celebrity Wife Swap in an episode to air tomorrow, January 3. As is expected for this show their families are polar opposites. Tracey and her husband have three boys and their household is very regimented and rule-oriented. Carnie has two girls and she and her husband are lax about discipline. So it could potentially be interesting to see how each of the moms deals with the other’s rules when they switch households for a week.

As part of promotion for the show, Carnie has a new interview with Fox News. Everyone focuses on Carnie’s weight since that’s what she’s made headlines for since she lost 150 pounds through gastric bypass in 1999 and posed nude for Playboy in 2003. It was in early 2010 that she got weighed on the Dr. Oz show and was described by Oz as “morbidly obese” at 218 pounds. To Fox, Carnie admits she’s gained a lot of weight and says she hopes to take it off this year. She admits she’s addicted to food and needs to learn better coping methods to deal with stress.

Carnie also said that she was nervous about putting her family on television and exposing them to scrutiny. I need to point out that this woman had her own reality show just two years ago. From what I understand it focused more on her than her kids, but I believe (I didn’t watch it) her family was shown on TV. So this is ripe that she’s super worried about it now.

Since last year’s hilarious appearance in ‘Bridesmaids,’ [Wilson Phillips'] career has been on an upswing. A reality show called ‘Still Holding On,’ will air in April, and concert dates and a new album in the works.

FOX411: Were you nervous about doing ‘Wife Swap’?
Carnie Wilson: Yeah I was actually. I was nervous for my children. Sometimes reality T.V. can be stressful. I didn’t want them to be exposed to any pressure or Hollywood weirdness. [My husband] Rob and I were a bit apprehensive. We knew it was going to get personal. We were going to be compared to their parenting styles, the marriage, the lifestyle, whatever. We knew we were going to feel a little bit vulnerable. We were willing to take the risk because something cathartic always happens, there’s always good lessons learned and you know it keeps me on T.V. and pays the bills.

FOX411: What did you learn?
Wilson: I could not believe how well behaved Tracey’s four boys are especially when they’re asked to do something.

FOX411: Did it make you realize your kids don’t do that?
Wilson: Oh yeah. I was like, ‘Oh s**t.’ We have loose rules. For me it’s like, ‘God, why do I have to ask you to do something four times?’ I know they’re not deaf, that they hear me. When Roby [Tracey Gold’s husband] asked his kids to do something they were like f**king trained seals.

Also it made me realize the most precious thing between Rob and I is that we have to stay strong and get stronger in terms of the way we honor each other. I realized that I have to slow down. I work so hard, I’m so busy. I realized that I don’t have enough time with Rob and when I saw the way Tracey and Roby are together, they keep that going so well.

FOX411: How is your weight these days?
Wilson: I’ve had so much stress in the last year so it’s really struggle. I never hide, when I walk down the street, someone’s going to take my picture, that’s what I look like. It’s usually a sh**ty picture. I’m definitely up in weight. I’m looking forward to getting an exercise routine again. It’s like a daily decision. Am I going to eat healthy today or am I going to make some sh**ty decisions?

I always think I am one of the the millions and millions of people that struggles with an addiction to food. I don’t know how to relax, that’s my problem. I can’t smoke a joint, I can’t have a glass of wine because I want 10 joints and 10 glasses of wine. That’s my obsessive compulsive and addictive behavior. I’ve really struggled since I’ve become sober. How do I balance that? How can I relax and not overeat? Because I have a lot of pressure in my life. I’m a working mother. I have a two year old and a six year old. You try to pay the bills, you try to keep your life going and there’s pressure. It’s kind of a funny time right now. Negativity has thrown a dark cloud over this whole country and I feel for everybody. I feel very blessed in my life but I also work my ass off. At the end of the day I don’t know how to unwind.

FOX411: Do you worry about how your eating issues impact your daughters?
Wilson: I find communication is the most important thing. Lola knows I struggle with it. I see Lola loving sugar like all the other children but I also see her pay a little more attention like when there’s a birthday party, I see her being the first in line to get the cake. I see me in her.

[From Fox News]

I’m glad she’s open about her weight battle and her career. It’s brave to let it all out and admit that she’s gained weight and that she’s doing these shows for money. That doesn’t mean I particularly like her. It’s so obnoxious to call someone else’s children “trained f’ing seals” just because they’re well behaved and listen to their parents.

Carnie Wilson: “I’m fat as f*ck, what can I say?”

wenn3135945
About three weeks ago, we covered a story from Star Magazine which contained some super bitchy quotes from a “Fresh Diet” pusblicist on their former endorsement deal with Carnie Wilson. Wilson, a former “Wilson Phillips” band member who is known for losing a massive amount of weight through gastric bypass and then gaining much of it back, started a cheesecake business out of her home at the same time she was supposed to be losing weight for Fresh Diet. She unsurprisingly gained weight instead of losing it, and the Fresh Diet people were pissed enough to drop her contract and talk about it to the press.

Carnie discussed this issue with Popeater’s Rob Shuter, and basically admitted that she’d gained weight. She said, simply, “I’m fat as f*ck, what can I say?” I feel for her. (Also, this story came out last week but I just noticed it on CNN. So if you’ve heard it already sorry!)

I asked Carnie about everyone’s obsession with talking about her weight and she was delightfully blunt about it.

“I’m fat as f**k, what can I say?” she told me when all the beauties stopped by a taping of my new HDNet talk show, ‘Naughty But Nice With Rob.’ “You know, after all these years, it’s just like we are who we are and it’s a struggle for me and sometimes I’m heavier and sometimes I’m thinner.”

[From Popeater]

Showbizspy has some older quotes from Carnie in which she explains why she likes to bake. “I just wanted to feed people. I got to cook every day [on Outsider's Inn in 2008] and that brings me a lot of comfort.”

I’ve been really changing how I eat. It’s great. I cooked really fattening food on the show but I lost 11 pounds while we did it.

I cooked for everybody on the set every day. I’d wake up early and bake and then I wouldn’t be eating the food. I would eat and spit, taste and spit.

Aw, whatever I cook I end up eating it. There’s no “taste and spit” for me. I have friends who say they can taste chocolate and spit it out. Are you kidding me? The only way for me not to eat that crap is not to have it in the house. I’ve been known to throw a lot of good chocolate and cookies out. It’s a shame but it’s better than me eating it. Good for Carnie for being like “whatever.” She probably shouldn’t have taken that job with Fresh Diet, but at least she’s not constantly talking about her weight like Kirstie Alley. She strikes me as less annoying than Alley.

Carnie Wilson fired as Fresh Diet spokesperson for selling cheesecakes

wenn5568959
Before I recount this story, let me say that the Fresh Diet publicist gave some super bitchy comments to Star, that we are not making fun of Carnie’s weight in any way and that this is about a dumb move she made that ended up costing her an endorsement deal. So Carnie was a spokesperson for a food delivery service called Fresh Diet. Instead of losing weight with the diet she put some on, which can probably be blamed on the fact that she started a side business making cheesecakes and sweets. (Some of Carnie’s products can be found at Melissa Joan Hart’s dessert shop in Sherman Oaks, CA, Sweet Harts.) The Fresh Diet people are pissed, and they’re not mincing words about it:

Carnie Wilson was let go as spokesperson for food-delivery service The Fresh Diet on Nov. 10 after losing only 19 lbs on the program – and then gaining it all back (plus some) after she launched her own cheesecake company.

“Carnie was promoting her cheesecakes while she was supposed to be only eating our three meals and two snacks a day,” The Fresh Diet publicity Ezzy Duchman tells Star of the 230-lb Wilson Phillips singer, who went from 300 lbs to 150 lbs after gastric bypass surgery in 1999. Although Carnie’s rep tells Star she parted ways with the Fresh Diet because her contract was up, Ezzy says, “We had to take her off the corporate website because she has not been a successful case. She didn’t stick to it, and she didn’t cut weight. We had to cut ties with her…

“It seemed that she was eating more food than just our meals. We always saw her baking on her reality show. We believe she wasn’t sticking to the plan and she wasn’t losing weight. If you’re baking cheesecake and selling it, then you can’t promote a diet company.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, December 6, 2010]

I get that it’s fulfilling to make your hobbies into a career (which is how I ended up gossiping about celebrities for a living). If you’re endorsing a diet service, though, it’s a no-brainer to realize that you shouldn’t be selling cakes on the side. (Or eating them, although that’s usually emotional.) Poor Carnie. This isn’t her only issue lately. She’s also suing the Game Show Network, which aired her reality show “Carnie Wilson: Unstapled” for $277,500 in unpaid wages. In the first episode of her show with aired in January, she cried to a personal trainer that she was having money problems and couldn’t afford his services. The show was canceled in March.

Carnie Wilson gets her own reality show on GSN: “Carnie Wilson: unstapled”

Pregnant Carnie Wilson goes to church and then shops at Gelson's Food Market
Former Wilson Phillips singer Carnie Wilson, 41, is the latest pseudo celebrity to land her own reality show. Wilson will star in “Carnie Wilson: Unstapled” on the Game Show Network, GSN. She began hosting “The Newlywed Game” on GSN earlier this spring, and this will be the network’s first attempt at reality programing. The show will focus on Wilson’s life at home with her husband of nine years and two young children, Lola, four and a half, and Lucy, four months. It will also chronicle her quest to lose the baby weight. Wilson has had a very public battle with her weight. She was obese as a young woman, lost 150 pounds though gastric bypass surgery in 1999, gained some weight back with her first baby and then lost then regained 22 pounds after a 2006 stint on Celebrity Fit Club. She’s received much more press for her weight fluctuations than her singing career:

Carnie Wilson, who hosts GSN’s The Newlywed Game, will headline her own reality series on the network, Carnie Wilson: Unstapled, GSN said.

The show is a departure from the network’s usual fare of game shows, but GSN saw fit to expand its brand due to positive viewer response to Wilson on The Newlywed Game, Kelly Goode, senior vice president for original programming and development, told the Associated Press.

Carnie Wilson welcomes a baby girl

Unstapled — a play on the singer’s 1999 gastric-bypass surgery that was streamed online — will focus on the 41-year-old’s life as a mother, her struggle to lose 50 pounds of baby weight after giving birth to second daughter, Lucy, in June, and her budding baking career. Wilson makes a line of desserts for Melissa Joan Hart’s candy shop, SweetHarts. Wilson’s father, Beach Boy Brian Wilson, may also make an appearance on the show if schedules permit.

Carnie Wilson: Unstapled will debut in January.

[From TV Guide]

I like Carnie Wilson and I’m pretty sure I saw her on E! True Hollywood story and found her both likable and relateable. She said in an interview after doing Celebrity Fit Club in 2006 that she would be open to her own reality show “if the price is right.” I guess it’s kind of expected that she’d jump at the chance for her own show, but the concept is getting so tired. It seems like just about every faux celebrity has done a reality show. Plus It really wreaks havoc on a family to subject their daily lives to the influence of producers and editors working to create a story line. I hope her marriage is secure enough to stand the pressure. She does have two small daughters depending on her. She’s not going to care as much about the money if it creates a strain in her relationship.

Isla Fischer: Pregnant women are ‘subject to body fascism’

I imagine that a lot of the joys of pregnancy could be utterly ruined by the paparazzi. Living with the constant pregnancy rumors is annoying enough. It’s worse once you actually get pregnant and have to read all the commentary on your “bump watch.” I can’t explain why, but the whole “bump” thing annoys the crap out of me. I find it incredibly creepy. Being a pregnant celeb means everyone is chatting about your body and feels free to chime in about it. Whether you’re too big or too small, everyone’s got an opinion.

Actress Isla Fisher pointed out how unfair and upsetting this “body fascism” is.

Isla Fisher says she was stunned someone had said she packed on too many pounds when she was expecting.

“When I was pregnant, I remember someone wrote on a blog that I had gained too much weight,” she recalls in December’s Australian issue of FHM (via London’s Daily Mail). “I remember being really shocked that even during something as incredible and beautiful as pregnancy, you are still subject to body fascism.”

How did the 32-year-old actress — who welcomed daughter Olive with Sacha Baron Cohen in 2007 — shed the 55 lbs. she gained while pregnant? Not by going to the gym!

“I have never been a big fan of working out and I’ve never been a sporty person – I was always more of a book worm,” says the actress, who headlines the 2009 comedy Confessions of a Shopaholic.

“I know it sounds like a cliche, but I’ve been blessed with good genes,” she adds. “My mum is little, and I’m fortunate that I don’t like eating junk food. I just don’t like the taste of it.”

[From Us Weekly]

Carnie Wilson has also gotten a lot of heat for her pregnancy weight gain. She was featured in OK! on October 28th as a weight loss success story. A little over a month later she has put on a ton of weight and looks nothing like her former shape. But she’s freaking pregnant! It’s probably safe to assume that the OK! photoshoot took place a couple weeks before the pictures were published. And frankly, if nothing else, she doesn’t owe anyone an explanation for her weight. Everyone’s body does different things when they’re pregnant. Some women look like the baby is bigger than they are, whereas others have tiny little bumps. It’s just the way it is.

I’d seriously suggest that all pregnant celebrities stay away from the tabloids (and the internet) until well after they give birth.

Here’s Isla on the cover of FHM and playing with daughter at the park on October 14th. Header at the “Hot Rod” premiere on July 26th, 2007. Images thanks to Fame.

Carnie Wilson overshares on her weight loss and new pregnancy

When my mom got pregnant with my little sister, I found out first because I was 3 and home and she couldn’t keep it to herself. And being an early gossip, I told my dad that night before she got the chance. When Carnie Wilson got pregnant, she went a more unconventional route – taping her pregnancy test to the front door of her home for her husband. Yep, a peed-on pregnancy test was stuck to her door for the whole world to see. That is much less cute than your kid spilling the beans.

Carnie Wilson – who lost nearly 50 pounds this year with OK! exclusively following her struggle to get slim and healthy – is now announcing her happy baby news. The singer and her musician husband, Rob Bonfiglio, are pregnant with their second child. “My due date is June,” Carnie, 40, proudly tells OK!. “We’re thrilled.” Here, the star reveals how she’ll stick to her diet and exercise routine while pregnant.

How did you find out you were expecting?
I was making dinner, and I took a home-pregnancy test. There was a second line, and I jumped and said, “Oh, my god, I’m pregnant!” Lola [my 3-year-old daughter] and I started screaming and jumping for joy. She was so excited!

How did you tell your husband?
I couldn’t get a hold of Rob because he was playing a jazz gig. I taped the pregnancy test to the front door and drew a picture of little stick figures of Daddy, Mommy, Lola and then a little tiny one. I jumped out of bed at midnight and went into the kitchen and I see him holding the stick. He took me in his arms and goes, “Here we go again, honey.” He was happy.

What are your hopes for the pregnancy?
I can’t stop thinking about twins! My sister had twins; my grandmother was a twin and my grandmother’s aunt had twins. I had my first ultrasound and we only saw one sac, but it’s not confirmed that it’s not two because one could be hiding in back of the other…. We’ll see!

Did you expect to get pregnant so quickly after losing the weight?
I did, actually. We had sex before, during and after ovulation. I was really keeping track of it, and it worked. Also, my body is so healthy now. I think we might have conceived to “She’s Leaving Home” by The Beatles!

[From OK! Magazine]

Um… um… I don’t really know what to say here. The whole article was one of those classic, awkward TMI situations. Carnie Wilson I am happy for you and your fertile womb. But I really don’t need to be privy to your sex schedule, nor to your doing it music. And I realize the pregnancy test taped to the door was meant to be cute, but somehow I can’t get over the bathroom angle of it. I know this is my own problem, but I really have an issue with things that have been in the toilet also being on my front door. Even when they’re really, really joyful.

Here’s Carnie with Ross Matthews, aka “Ross the Intern,” at The Ivy in Los Angeles on July 23rd. Images thanks to Fame.

Carnie Wilson discusses her weight gain after baby

Former Wilson Phillips band member Carnie Wilson lost 150 pounds in 1999 after gastric bypass surgery, but has since gained at least 50 pounds back after having a baby. Carnie is a size 16 and weighs 208 pounds. Her daughter Lola will turn three next month.

Carnie talked to OK! Magazine about her struggle with her weight. She probably needs the money that goes along with airing your personal problems in a gossip rag, but I also have to give her credit for bringing up a very important problem that faces a lot of mothers: toddler weight gain. When the screaming and begging get to be too much you don’t reach for a prescription medication and you try to avoid drinking too much to blot out the stress. You remain sober and present for your child when you scarf down three rolls of that delicious bakery bread and are rewarded with a nice carb high followed by a blood sugar crash, not that I’m speaking from experience.

In 1999, Carnie Wilson famously underwent gastric bypass surgery to cut 150 lbs. off her 300-lb. frame. Her struggle with her weight wasn’t over, though, as she gained back the pounds carrying daughter Lola, now 2. But after a stint on VH1′s Celebrity Fit Club, Carnie shed another 22 lbs. That was two years ago. Now, a month away from her 40th birthday, Carnie weighs 208 lbs. and wears a size 16. Opening up to OK!, the singer says she has hit “rock bottom” with her weight.

“Everyone can see that I’m bigger, but I cannot hibernate,” she tells OK!. “I’ve never lied or been dishonest about what’s going on in my life. Even all these years later, having had such a great weight-loss story, being back in this place is so familiar. And it hurts. I don’t want to feel this way anymore. It doesn’t feel good when you have to struggle to get your pants on.”

The source of her tremendous weight gain is snacking. Since having her daughter, the former Wilson Phillips star says she turned all her focus on her little girl, leaving little to no attention to her weight or diet.

“I had anxiety, started snacking and gained it all back and more,” she says. “I have a weakness when it comes to snacking. For me, it’s a tortilla with cheese, popcorn and graham crackers, all in one night.”

[From OK! Magazine]

Raising a child is one of the most stressful things you can do, and many people cope with that by eating. Carnie says she’s going to “lose 45 to 50 pounds and then try to get pregnant again,” but she’s about to turn 40 so she’s got to do it soon if she wants to get pregnant again naturally. She is trying to do 30 to 45 minutes of cardio every weekday and have a trainer come over three days a week.

Good luck to Carnie. She seems like she has a great personality and attitude. MSat was telling me that she heard her interviewed on the Howard Stern show a few times in the mid 90s and that she would joke around with Howard and wouldn’t shy away from the nasty topics he likes to discuss.

In 2006, Carnie told Oprah that she battled alcoholism after she lost weight and that she was “going down a dark spiral very quickly,” but that she quit drinking and then got pregnant with her daughter three weeks later.

Thanks to OK Magazine for these photos. Carnie’s interview is featured in the upcoming issue which has “Jen’s [Aniston's] Magic Diet” on the cover.
