Charity and giving come in many shapes and sizes, especially during the holidays. Parents all over the world wrestle with the same conundrum Ralphie’s did in A Christmas Story over the coveted Red Rider BB Gun, but David Spade was happy to put fifty AR-15 rifles under the Phoenix Police Department’s Christmas tree.

Spade said he wanted to make the donation after seeing a TV news report about Phoenix officers having to buy their own rifles. Spade grew up in the Phoenix area and graduated from Arizona State University.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Alan Hill says the rifles will be given to patrol officers and that the agency was grateful for the gifts.

“These guys need to be able to do their jobs and I am just happy I could help,” Spade said in a statement released by his publicist

I live in the country, so my knowledge about how badly city cops need high powered rifles is limited to Law & Order. But if the guns are something they need in the line of duty, it’s more than a little disturbing that the officers were having to buy them themselves. While most people are thinking about blankets for the homeless, toys for tots, and other more “holiday” sounding charities, I guess the occasional multiple high powered weapons donation is important sometimes, too.

The great part about this, though, is that Spade hasn’t gone so Hollywood that he doesn’t know what’s going on in his hometown. It’s good to hear someone giving back, even if it isn’t warm and cuddly gifts. He obviously still pays attention to what’s going on “back home” and cares enough to do more than read about it.

It feels weird to feel this way about lethal weapons, but I do feel warm and fuzzy about this Christmas gift.

People have often marveled at dorky David Spade’s ability to land hot women. He’s been linked to Heather Locklear, Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, playmate Jillian Grace and most recently Desperate Housewives’ Nicolette Sheridan. Spade 44, was seen making out with Sheridan at her 45th birthday party at a Beverly Hills restaurant Friday night. The two didn’t arrive together and were seated at different tables at first. It’s likely Spade was invited to the party, though, as it wasn’t the first time they’ve been spotted together:

Even though Nicolette Sheridan and David Spade have yet to verbally confirm that they’re a couple, the pair let their body language do the talking on Friday night.

The Desperate Housewives star was celebrating her 45th birthday at new L.A. hot spot Luau in Beverly Hills — the same place they were spotted together a few weeks ago at the grand opening — and onlookers tell OK!, “Nicolette and David were full-on making out!”

The duo arrived separately and even started the dinner at separate booths but couldn’t resist each other for long! According to witnesses, Spade winked at Sheridan and stood at her side while she blew out the candles on her cake. After that, the two retreated to a booth where they cuddled and kissed.

Other guests at Sheridan’s PDA-filled party included her coworkers Neal McDouough, Kyle MacLachlan, and Felicity Huffman. Sheridan is said to have sipped on lychee martinis and to have enjoyed a birthday cake inscribed “Happy Birthday Princessa.”

In related David Spade news, the National Enquirer reports this week that Spade has never met his two month old daughter with Playmate Jillian Grace. The 22 year-old single mother is raising the baby with her family’s help in Springfield, Missouri, where she lives in a two bedroom condo. Spade has promised to visit, but has not yet seen his newborn daughter. Spade’s publicist issued a statement when the baby was born that “David and Jillian have been in close contact throughout her pregnancy and he plans to go see the baby during his first break from shooting Rules of Engagement.” He must be busy filming because he hasn’t seen his daughter yet.

David Spade, 44, has confirmed that he’s the father to a baby girl, born on August 26 to an ex girlfriend, Playboy Playmate Jillian Grace, 22. It seems it took so long to make the confirmation to the press because they were waiting for the DNA results to come back, at least that’s what I’m reading into it. E! Online titled their story “DNA IDs Daughter for David Spade,” although there’s nothing about a paternity test in the article itself:

It turns out that David Spade did, in fact, produce an heir.

A baby girl born last week to former Playboy Playmate Jillian Grace is the 45-year-old funnyman’s biological daughter, a rep for Spade has confirmed.

“David and Jillian have been in close contact throughout her pregnancy and he plans to go see the baby during his first break from shooting Rules of Engagement,” publicist Meredith O’Sullivan told People.

Spade reluctantly admitted the possibility that the baby was his in a statement released after the news broke of Jillian’s pregnancy. He seemed to suggest he only had a fling with her, saying, “I had a brief relationship with Jillian Grace. If it is true that I am the father of her child, then I will accept responsibility.”

Reports came out in the tabloids shortly afterwards that Spade led the young model on, telling her he did want a baby and flying her out to LA from Missouri several times. He supposedly consciously had unprotected sex with her. When she broke the news that she was pregnant, he turned cold and broke it off, according to reports. Grace stayed in Missouri, pregnant and brokenhearted.

Spade strikes me as one of those guys who is not into monogamy at all and isn’t about to let a baby get in his way. At least Grace will get some child support.

He’s built a career playing snotty little know-it-all guys. He dates Playboy bunnies. But actor David Spade also has a humanitarian side, which he recently showed with a $10,000 donation to an animal shelter located in his hometown of Lakeside, Arizona, where Spade’s mother still lives.

David Spade has donated $10,000 to save the Humane Society of the White Mountains in his mother’s town of Lakeside, Arizona, a source tells Usmagazine.com.

“The shelter was falling apart, and they were going to shut it down, so he stepped in,” says the source. “It was far and above what they needed and ever received.”

According to the shelter’s web site, the facility specializes in rescuing animals who have been abandoned in the surrounding mountains. The shelter neuters, immunizes and cares for more than 3,500 animals a year until they can be adopted. Usually, I think David Spade is a snarky little jerk, but he gets points from this animal lover. I especially like that he did it under the radar without issuing a press statement or inviting a bunch of photographers along. Yes, I’m looking at you, Paris.

When the news came out that former Playboy playmate Jillian Grace, 22, was pregnant and claimed that David Spade was the father, Spade, 43, issued a statement that made his relationship with Grace seem like a fling. He did handle it much better than a lot of other celebrities would have, and acknowledged that the baby could be his, saying “I had a brief relationship with Jillian Grace. If it is true that I am the father of her child, then I will accept responsibility.”

Star Magazine says that Spade and Grace’s relationship was much more than a fling and that the comedian led the young woman from a small town into believing that he was in it for keeps. He pursued her for quite some time and they were friends first. Spade even waited until Grace had broken up with her boyfriend to make a move. Once they hooked up Spade flew her out to LA several times:

“Jillian is from a small town near St. Louis, and she had moved out to LA after becoming a Playboy centerfold,” says the family friend. “She though David was cute and funny when she met him at the deli [in late 2005] but she was in a relationship at the time.”

David managed to get Jillian’s phone number from Playboy and began pursuing her, “but Jillian is a one-man woman,” says the friend. “They did become friends, and over the next year and a half, they would call and text each other frequently, and see each other at different celebrity events.”

By September, 2007, Jillian had broken up with her boyfriend and became disillusioned with Hollywood. “She was moving home to Missouri and called David to give him the news,” the friend tells Star. “David said to her, ‘So, you’re single now? Great! When can I see you?”

“They began a romantic relationship. They’d see each other whenever she returned to LA on Playboy business, and David even flew her out to LA a handful of times just so the two of them could be together - including one time in early December as a birthday gift…”

The source claims that they talked about having a baby together and made the conscious decision to have unprotected sex. When Grace told Spade that their efforts were fruitful and that she was knocked up, he turned cold and that’s when he ended the relationship.

It was during an early rendezvous, says the friend, that David and Jillian talked about having a child together. “It was a mutual discussion,” the friend tells Star. “He told her that as he was getting older, it was something he was thinking about. And Jillian replied. ‘Are you sure this is something you want? It could happen!’ They knowingly had unprotected sex that night…”

Jillian got her wish, says the friend, when she learned that she was pregnant by David and alerted him to the happy news just before Christmas. “She texted him the message, ‘Congratulations! You’re going to be a father. Merry Christmas!” says the friend. “David got back to her and said, ‘Are you sure? Are you OK?’ At first he seemed totally positive about the pregnancy. He told Jillian he would be supportive, that he’d be there for her.”

But the friend claims David’s attitude seemed to change almost immediately. “Soon he was telling Jillian that having the child could hurt his career, and that her own modeling career would be over,” the friend says. “He even asked Jillian if she was sure the baby was his - and if she was sure she wanted to have it.”

Maybe Spade said he wanted a child during some drunken pillow talk, and Grace took it to mean more than it did. It sounds like the news of the baby freaked him out enough to back out of the new relationship. At 22 Grace was probably too inexperience to realize that she shouldn’t have put so much faith in a relationship with a famous older man. She seems to have learned the hard way and will hopefully get enough support to raise the baby in a positive way. She’ll at least get some decent child support.

Comic and unlikely ladies’ man David Spade has been linked with Jenna Fischer and even Jennifer Aniston recently, and was in a relationship with Heather Locklear in 2006. Now there’s news that he may be responsible for knocking up a Playboy Playmate he dated. He says he’s no longer with Jillian Grace, but acknowledges dating her and says if the baby is his he’ll step up to the plate.

TMZ has learned that a 22-year-old Playboy Playmate is claiming that David Spade is the father of her unborn child. Holy Jamie Lynn!

Jillian Grace, Miss March 2005, is alleging that she had a relationship with the comedian, resulting in her becoming pregnant. Grace was discovered by Playboy after posing for test shots on the Howard Stern show.

Spade tells TMZ, “I had a brief relationship with Jillian Grace. If it is true that I am the father of her child, then I will accept responsibility.”

Grace is just 22, which seems quite young to be dating 43 year-old Spade. Maybe he realized this and that’s why it didn’t work out between the two. Good for Spade for immediately issuing a comment and admitting that he could be the father of the baby. Unlike DMX, he takes responsibility for his actions and seems like a stand up guy.

Jillian Grace was the Playmate of the month for March, 2005. Bits & Pieces blog notes that her turn-ons are “A guy who BBQs, someone who knows how to hit all the right spots, a sense of humor.” and that her ambitions are noted as “I plan to pursue modeling and acting. I would love to appear in a workout video.” Now that she’s getting more publicity for having David Spade’s baby she could use that fame to help launch a prenatal and post-baby workout franchise. If Carmen Electra can put out like 10 strip fitness videos then this chick has a chance too.

I never got the appeal of David Spade, because the few times I watched that terrible “Just Shoot Me” show I found him incredibly annoying. Somehow he’s managed to score with Hollywood babes including Kristy Swanson, Lara Flynn Boyle and Heather Locklear, so maybe he’s fun to be around. The latest conquest of the height-challenged comic is said to be newly separated star of “The Office,” Jenna Fischer.

The 43-year-old comedian… is now seeing The Office’s Jenna Fischer, 33! “When Jenna separated from her husband… in September, she didn’t expect to start dating right away, but she met David at a party, and he made her laugh so hard that she decided to accept his dinner invitation,” a friend tells Star. Their relationship is “just light and fun,” adds the pal.

Jenna Fischer plays the second wife of singer Dewey Cox in the comedy Walk Hard, which is currently out in theaters. She said that she completely ripped off Reese Witherspoon’s character in Walk the Line for the role. She blogged about the film on her MySpace right before its December 21 release date, and said that working on it was a “dream come true.” As for the content of the film, she praises her co-star John C. Reilly professionalism and warns that the film “is very raunchy and sexy and the humor is hard core,” and that “ladies, we have penis.”

I so want to make a crack about Spade’s manhood now, it would perfectly wrap up this story, but instead I’ll talk about how into Christmas Jenna Fischer is. She said she loves decorating and baking and that she has three-step Christmas cards she bought at Target. As of December 21st, she was still working on some of them. Maybe she has a new guy to kiss on New Year’s too

Update: Fischer blogged on her myspace that she’s never even met David Spade and suggested that we pair her instead with other actors she’s never met such as Orlando Bloom, Colin Farrell or Jake Gyllenhaal. Over Christmas, I saw a report in Star Magazine that I’m dating David Spade. Imagine my surprise as… I’VE NEVER MET David Spade! What a milestone! My first TOTALLY 100% UNTRUE tabloid report! I’ve always been very cynical when I hear celebrities say that a story is fake. I figure SOME part of every story must be true right? NO WAY! I have no idea how they are allowed to get away with stuff like that! My publicist said that no one ever called to check the facts of the David Spade story. Which seems strange to me. I have a minor in journalism and I was told to never run a story without 2 reliable sources to back it up. But, while we are on the subject, some other people I’ve never met are: Orlando Bloom, Colin Farrell, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Brad Pitt. Maybe I can fictionally date some of those guys too?

I like when random celebrities do random good things. It’s great when you have someone famous who’s always helping out – ie the Angelina Jolie and Richard Geres of the world – but it’s great when someone who isn’t always getting a lot of press for their good deeds randomly does something nice. It’s kid of the whole “random acts of kindness” thing, but on a celebrity-paycheck scale. David Spade recently donated $25,000 to the family of an Arizona police officer who was shot in the line of duty. Officer Nick Erfle had managed to beat cancer, only to be shot during a routine arrest in September. Spade, who’s from Arizona, heard about the crime and found it particularly cruel. He managed to get a hold of a bank, and was able to make a donation to cover funeral and other expenses for the Erfle.

“David Spade was so moved by the shooting death of an Arizona police officer that he donated $25,000 to the man’s family. The comedian and Scottsdale, Ariz., native, 43, said he was ‘hit out of the blue’ by the tragedy – and the fact that Officer Nick Erfle had overcome cancer. ‘It just struck me as such a rough situation just because cops in general get kind of a bad rap lately and people forget it is the scariest job out there,’ Spade told the Associated Press Monday. ‘I’m from Arizona so I’m always a little aware of things that are going on there.’

“Spade’s generosity has benefited his hometown before. He recently gave $15,000 to his alma mater, Saguaro High School. This time, it took some persistence. ‘It was hard to get through. It took me a while. I finally got somebody at the bank’s voicemail and left a message,’ Spade said. ‘I just thought I would throw something in the pile.’ Erfle, 33, was fatally shot Sept. 18 on a busy Phoenix street after attempting to arrest a man with an outstanding warrant. He leaves behind a wife and two sons, ages 5 and 3. Spade has not spoken with family or friends of Erfle, but said he hopes Erfle’s wife is able to use the money for the funeral or any other expenses.”

I think we’ve all made fun of David Spade on more than one occasion (he’s sorta asking for it with the way he insists on that haircut) but he’s done something really nice for total strangers, so I vow not to make fun of Spade for at least one week. Unless he gets back together with Heather Locklear. Then all bets are off.

Heather Locklear was said to be super pissed to see yet another one of her exes, David Spade, in a public clutch with Pamela Anderson. Anderson was married to Locklear’s first husband, Tommy Lee, in 1995 after his divorce from Locklear in 1993. It doesn’t look like Lee was cheating on Locklear, at least with Anderson, because they got married after only knowing each other for a few days and that was well after his separation from Locklear. Supposedly Locklear told Lee at the time they broke up that he could date anyone he pleased - except Pamela Anderson!

So Heather Locklear understandably dislikes Pamela Anderson and was none too pleased to see pictures of David Space kissing and rubbing Pam’s tummy. Locklear was thought to have had a recent relationship with Spade despite insisting that they’re just friends. What’s more is that Spade knows that Locklear can’t stand Anderson and that she’s strictly off limits as far as she is concerned:

The article goes on to say that back when they were dating, Spade was joking around to Locklear about how dumb Anderson was. Locklear can’t believe that he would go around and hook up with her given their history. Despite a new relationship with Jack Wagner, Heather is still mad at Spade for going after the one woman that is strictly taboo. (Well, maybe one of two women since she surely wouldn’t like it if he started shagging Denise Richards either.)

Maybe Locklear hates Anderson so much because she’s more like the former Baywatch babe than she cares to admit. At 45, Locklear doesn’t have much to worry about as she has it all over 40 year-old Anderson, who also looks great but needs to hang up the bikini and move on.

David Spade may be set to pop the question to bitchy hottie Heather Locklear. The mismatched couple has tried to lay low during Locklear’s high profile divorce from Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora. Sambora is putting the blocks to publicity hound Denise Richards, who lived right next door to Locklear and Sambora and encouraged Locklear to divorce him.

Spade and Locklear were said to have broken up back in mid-May after a romance that hit the tabs in April that no one believed anyway. When these pictures of Space and Locklear at the beach [via] came out at the beginning of the month it seemed like the unbelievable could be true.

Locklear isn’t likely to accept Spade’s proposal if this is true. While Spade has defended her, saying she’s still “nursing the knife wounds in her back” from her failed friendship with Denise Richards, he doesn’t seem like a good match for Locklear. He’s a short comic with no sex appeal, and she’s well - Heather Locklear. She surprised her husband with divorce papers and she doesn’t seem ready to settle down again in a rebound relationship.
