Pregnant Nicole Richie is distraught, near collapse in wake of DJ AM’s death

fp_3499995_goldsteinadam_ri
Nicole Richie’s second baby is due any day now, and her family and friends are worried that her health has taken a serious blow. Nicole was left devastated by her ex-boyfriend Adam Goldstein/DJ AM’s death on Friday. Star Magazine claims that Nicole “almost collapsed in grief” when she was told the news, and that she “felt like her heart stopped for a few minutes.” According to Star’s sources, Nic’s doctor made a house call to check on her, that’s how fearful people were about her health. Star also claims (I think accurately) and Nicole and Adam had shared a joint commitment to beat their addiction while together, and that Nic is devastated at the thought that she didn’t do enough to “reach out” to him.

The National Enquirer has a much more hardcore version of this story too – but they’re making it about how Joel Madden and Nicole got into some huge fight about Adam. They claim Joel interrogated Nic about whether she was still in love with Adam, and that Nicole was so distraught she almost went into premature labor:

Ex-love Nicole Richie crushed by death and autopsy results which suggest suicide.

Pregnant Nicole Richie was devastated after her ex-fiance DJ AM’s sudden death, and her meltdown caused a huge blowup between her and current fiance Joel Madden.

The former Simple Life star took the news of his death so hard that her pals feared she was going into premature labor. The body of DJ AM – aka Adam Goldstein – was found in his pricey SoHo loft apartment on Aug. 28.

The two dated for two years before splitting up in 2006 and remained friends. But her emotional reaction after he died made Joel wonder if Nicole had been hiding deep feelings for Adam, said a source.

“It ended up in a big fight, with Joel demanding, ‘Were you still in love with him?’

“Nicole was angry that Joel would even ask that – during her time of grief – AND when she was so close to giving birth!”

Nicole, who has a 19-month-old daughter, Harlow with Joel, was more than eight months into her second pregnancy when she learned the tragic news.

“She broke down, cried uncontrollably and thought that she was having contractions,” said the source. “She was devastated to think that Adam’s life came to such a terrible end after his years struggling to stay sober.

“She was crushed.”

Police at the scene of Adam’s death found a half-empty bag of crack and a glass crack pipe near his body. They also found more than a dozen bottles of prescription medicine including the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the painkiller Vicodin in the kitchen. Undigested Oxycontin pills were found in his stomach and a still undissolved tab lingered in his mouth, the autopsy reported, suggesting suicide from painkillers OD.

A former crack addict, Adam appeared to have turned his life around and claimed to have been sober for more than a decade. His close pals now blame his deadly relapse on the pain medication he was prescribed after being injured in a plane crash with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker last September.

Despite being badly hurt, sources say Adam was able to pull a severely burned Travis from the wreckage. The remaining four people aboard the plane perished.

“It appears he was having a real tough time dealing with the physical pain and stress from the crash and got addicted to the painkillers he was on,” a police source told The ENQUIRER.

Learning that Adam died of an apparent overdose made his death even more painful for Nicole. A former drug user herself, she has been clean for more than two years – thanks to the love and support of Joel. Nicole’s publicist denied that Goldstein’s death caused any problems between her and Joel.

[From the National Enquirer]

Well… my guess is that Nicole was probably very distraught with Adam’s death, and I think there could be a possibility Joel Madden wondered to himself whether Nicole still had feelings for Adam. But I don’t see them getting into some kind of screaming fight about it. I sometimes think Joel gives off a whiff of douche, but I don’t see him as the kind of guy who, when hearing about a tragic death of someone the pregnant mother of his children once loved, would get into a huge, narcissistic fight making it all about him.

DJ AM’s death is not looking accidental; his gf says they were still together

wenn5342869
People Magazine is quoting a source with advance details of DJ AM’s as-of-yet unreleased autopsy report. According to their source, AM had eight Oxycontin pills in his stomach and one in his mouth, suggesting that his death was an intentional overdose and not accidental as many people guessed. People usually doesn’t run stories without solid, verifiable information so it’s probably safe to assume that this is sadly true. AM was said to have been distraught over a breakup with his girlfriend of one year just two weeks before his death, which she denies. What’s more is that the state of AM’s apartment also suggests that his death was planned, as there were mirrors propped against the doors.

Authorities investigating the death of DJ AM have found that he had eight undigested OxyContin pills in his stomach and a ninth in his mouth, a law enforcement source tells PEOPLE.

The finding suggests that DJ AM – real name Adam Goldstein – swallowed the powerful painkillers quickly. “He wanted to die,” says the source, who says the suicide theory is supported by the pills and other evidence. “He was going unconscious when he took the last one. He didn’t even swallow it.”

In addition to the OxyContin, the source says, authorities who entered Goldstein’s New York apartment Aug. 28 found a Valentine’s Day card in the next room from Haley Wood. The pair had recently split. Dated Feb. 14, 2009, the card read, “Thank God you’re in my life. I love you.” Next to the card were six or seven photos of Wood and Goldstein.

“The card was lying on top of his laptops on the coffee table in the living room,” the source says.

Also, a mirror was propped against the outside of the apartment and another against the door of the bedroom, where Goldstein’s body was located in the bed, the source says. When the police, Goldstein’s manager and paramedics entered together, they pushed the first mirror to the side. When they entered the bedroom, the mirror propped against the door shattered. “They pushed it open and it broke,” the source says.

A crack pipe sat next to the body; when authorities moved the body, crack was found underneath, the source says. Goldstein, the source believes, “smoked a lot of crack, barricaded the doors and killed himself.”

[From People]

AM was sober for 11 and a half years before his death and was known for his tireless commitment to helping fellow addicts. He even had a reality show coming out on MTV, “Gone Too Far,” in which he staged interventions for addicts, working with their families and loved ones to help them kick drugs. AM came up with the idea for the show on his own and successfully pitched it to MTV.

According to AM’s rumored ex, model Hayley Wood, 22, they weren’t broken up as reported, and she was still with him at the time. In a statement to US Magazine, Wood speaks of AM in the present and says that the rumors that they were split are untrue:

But in an exclusive statement to Usmagazine.com, Wood says: “Any indication that this horribly tragic accident happened because of a rumored breakup is not only untrue but disgusting. We were very much together at the time of his passing, and I love him very much.”

[From US Weekly]

Whether they were broken up or not, this has got to be devastating to Hayley and everyone who loved AM. It’s just sad. The NY Post claims that AM was spiraling out of control and using again and that his sober sponsor and manager both knew about it. AM was said to have been suffering severe anxiety after surviving that small plane crash last year in which four people perished. He was on painkillers for the burns he suffered and was taking anti-anxiety medication to combat his fear of flying, something he needed to do frequently for his job. He was said to have promised his sponsor and manager that he would go to rehab over the weekend after he performed his weekly gig at the Palms Casino on Friday. He never made it. The Palms dimmed out all but the “A” and “M” lights on their building on Friday in honor of AM.

AM’s friends are holding a memorial that will take place in the format of an open 12 step meeting. People has the details from the invitations, which say that it will be structured like an NA or AA meeting, “The format of the evening will be in the style of an open 12-step meeting. Adam’s friends both from his life in recovery, as well as those from other areas of his life are welcome. We ask only that everyone adhere to the tradition of anonymity and let what they hear there, and who they see there, stay there.” It seems a fitting tribute to a man who helped so many people in life. There are doubtless so many broken-hearted people wishing they could have stopped him before it was too late.

Lindsay Lohan, Travis Barker & others react to DJ AM’s death

DJ AM seen here on August 16th 2009 performing a set in Atlanta
In the wake of Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein’s death on Friday, many friends of Adam’s have come out to speak about his good heart, and more details have come about the circumstances surrounding his death. As with the death of Heath Ledger, there is probably a lot of false information floating around. While it’s likely that Adam died from either a drug overdose or some kind of fatal drug interaction, nothing is for sure. Some anonymous law enforcement “sources” have been leaking information – apparently, there was a crack pipe and prescription pills in Adam’s apartment, and there might have been crack found somewhere on Adam’s body. But, the autopsy performed on Saturday was inconclusive – toxicology could take weeks.

Meanwhile, Adam’s friends have been speaking out about the man, mostly via Twitter. Travis Barker, who was the only other survivor of that horrific plane crash, called Adam his “brother” and wrote “I love u and miss u, I’ll never forget all the good times we had. I’ll never forget everything we’ve been through and every time I play the drums, I’ll think of you. U were an amazing friend/DJ/human being.” Later Friday night, while performing in Connecticut, Blink 182’s bassist Mark Hoppus told an audience, “This night is really hard for us on stage. We lost a dear friend yesterday. His name was Adam Goldstein. You probably know him as DJ AM. He was an innovator and a genius and he loved music more than anything else. Above all he was a dear friend.” Travis’s estranged wife Shanna Moakler told Us Weekly, “My deepest condolences are to DJ AM — he was a great artist and will be severely missed. My thoughts and prayers to his family and friends. My support and love goes out to Travis as I know hard this is for him and how close they were.”

On a somewhat lighter note, Lindsay Lohan made Adam’s death all about her, of course. Lindsay tweeted “I can’t believe this.. i’m in shock. why? why? r.i.p. adam. Last weekend and this week have definitely left some unforgettable scars.” She also told Extra’s Mario Lopez that Adam’s death was “a really sore subject… He is a really amazing guy and I know it’s hard for a lot of people but he was an amazing teacher and he’s overcome a lot of battles and he will remain in all our hearts. God bless.” Here are some other statements, via Us Weekly:

Shanna Moakler: My deepest condolences for DJ AM, you were a great artist and will be severely missed. My thoughts and Prayers to his family and friends.
Katy Perry: rest in peace friend
Pete Wentz: R.I.P. . I’m sorry to loved ones. So unexpected.
Kelly Osbourne: i just cant believe that adam (dj.am) is gone i dont want to believe it im in shock. he was one of the most genuine people i have ever met!
P. Diddy: DJ AM Rest In Peace…
Demi Moore: How fragile life is & how easy we can take it 4granted Take a moment 2appreciate all that U have &remember 2 tell those close 2 U-U luv them
Kirstie Alley: SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT DJ AM…some times life seems very surreal..RIP…come back soon..regards to his family and friends
Demi Lovato: R.I.P. DJ AM…. So sad… :( praying for his loved ones..
Perez Hilton: I’m tempted to feel angry at the world/God right now, but I can’t. I won’t. I choose to believe Adam is free of his demons now and at peace.
Josh Groban: I’m stunned. Rest in peace Adam.
John Mayer: We’re supposed to lose our friends to time, at an age when we’re ready to agree to the terms of having lived a long life. Not now.
Samantha Ronson: Waiting for someone to say this isn’t true.
Ashton Kutcher: much love to my boy AM
Dr. Drew Pinsky: “R.I.P. DJ AM. I lack the words to describe my feelings
Ryan Seacrest: So sad the hear about adam. a very kind and generous guy
Heidi Pratt: my thoughts and prayers are with DJ AM’s family and friends

[From Us Weekly]

Radar has an early copy of next month’s AC Luxury Magazine, in which Adam gave what is most likely his last print interview and photo session. Adam speaks about his love of the Jersey Shore, and gave that love as a reason for partnering in an Atlantic City club. Adam told the magazine, “I have faith that I am right where I am supposed to be as long as I follow my heart’s desire.” Too sad… it seems like no one has anything bad to say about Adam, and that he tried to live his life with as much positive, optimistic energy as possible. He will be missed.

DJ AM found dead in his NY city apartment

wenn5302366
Adam Goldstein, best known as DJ AM, was found dead in his NY city apartment yesterday afternoon. He was just 36. AM was a survivor of a fatal small plane crash last September along with his friend and collaborator, Travis Barker. Four others perished in that crash, including two friends and co-workers of AM and Barker. AM suffered burns on his hands and head, for which he required skin graft surgery, but he recovered quickly and was working again a month after the accident.

AM was addicted to crack cocaine years ago, but recently said that he was sober for 11 years. People who knew him said he never drank alcohol. He even had a reality show coming out on MTV this fall in which he helped families of addicts stage interventions. AM explained in an MTV interview, video below, that the idea for the show was something he came up with. He said that he bought a crack pipe while being filmed to demonstrate how easy it was to get one, but that holding it brought up a lot of old cravings. In interviews with AM about the show on MTV’s website, he speaks with such feeling and passion about helping addicts that I have a hard time believing he went down that route again. The Associated Press reports that prescription drugs and a crack pipe were found in his apartment, but his representative emphasizes that the circumstances of his death are still unclear. I don’t think we should jump to any conclusions about what happened to him. No matter how he died it’s an incredible tragedy and a great loss.

Here is a People article about AM’s death and his struggle with addiction. Other reports say he was not seen for several days and a friend called the police when they couldn’t get into his apartment. AM’s last tweet is ominous in light of his death. He wrote on August 25 at 2:57 pm “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.” AM was also said to be distraught over a recent breakup.

DJ AM has been found dead in his New York City apartment.

Det. Brian Sessa tells PEOPLE that at 5:20 p.m. on Friday New York Police Department officers entered an apartment on Lafayette Street in response to a 911 call about a man who hadn’t been seen for two days. Inside, they found the body of a white male in his 30s. Another police source confirmed to PEOPLE that the dead man was DJ AM.

The cause of death has not been released by the medical examiner, although N.Y.P.D. Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne said there was no apparent evidence of foul play. A police source said prescription drugs where found in the apartment.

Goldstein’s publicist released a statement Friday confirming the news of his death. “The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear. Out of respect for his family and loved ones, please respect their privacy at this time,” the statement says.

DJ AM (real name: Adam Michael Goldstein) was 36. He narrowly escaped death in a 2008 jet crash with Blink 182′s Travis Barker.

“There’s no reason why I lived and they didn’t,” DJ AM said last month at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, referring to the others who died in the crash. “It’s something that I struggle with every day, you know, kind of wondering. But I’ve just realized I’m never really going to know. I’m alive, and I’m here, and I have another chance. So I have to do something better with my life this time.”

DJ AM’s Last Days
On Thursday, Goldstein Tweeted, “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york ain’t always what it seems.”

DJ AM was scheduled to work Friday night at Rain nightclub at the Palms in Las Vegas, where he has a standing gig. He was the deejay at the club last weekend. “He never drinks alcohol – ever,” says a source who has seen him there. “Every time he’s there he drinks Fiji water and Red Bull – six Fijis and six Red Bulls every night.”

Goldstein had just played Dusk at Caesar’s Atlantic City on Tuesday night. He was part owner of the club, which will be closed Friday night. In a statement, Dusk management said, “We are devastated by the loss of Adam Goldstein, our dear friend and valued member of the Dusk family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones. He was a true talent who will be greatly missed.”

His Past Struggles
Goldstein was a popular deejay in the Hollywood, New York and Vegas club scene, and had struggled with weight, drugs and depression.

“Drugs became my identity,” he said in 2005. “I would deejay until 2 a.m., go get drugs and stay up until 10 in the morning doing drugs alone in my apartment.” During his early 20s, his weight reached 300 lbs.

A critical turning point in his life came in 1997, when Goldstein considered suicide. After a night of doing cocaine, Goldstein, 24 at the time, sat before a mirror and “could not move away from staring at myself,” he said. He put a gun in his mouth and, sobbing, said, “God, please help me.”

“I pulled the trigger, and it jammed,” DJ AM said, recounting the story again at the TCAs last month. “And I remember sitting there thinking, ‘You know, I can’t even kill myself.’ ” He said the next morning, a friend, who had managed to kick drugs, stopped to check in on him. “He said, ‘Dude, you’re coming with me. Let’s go.” And I just listened for once, and I went and I did everything he told me to do. That was 11 years ago.”

After vowing to get off drugs and lose weight, Goldstein underwent gastric bypass surgery and dropped 115 lbs.

He dated Nicole Richie and got engaged to the reality TV star in 2005, though the two called off their plans in December of that year. Goldstein most recently dated model Hayley Wood but according to reports called it quits earlier this month.

[From People]

The NY Post has a very touching story from a friend of AMs who said he rescued him from drug addiction four years ago and saved him at a time when he had no will to live. “He reached out to me, talked to me for hours. He’d be there every single time I would call. He would be there no matter [the] situation, he would answer calls at 5:30 in the morning. He just want[ed] to help people out.”

As trivial as it is, I remember DJ Samantha Ronson saying in an interview that AM once gave her an entire hard drive filled with music, something that was incredibly generous considering that they were technically in competition with each other.

People remember AM as a true friend who cared about others and was always willing to help. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family. He will be sorely missed by so many.

AM on his new reality show in which he stages interventions for drug addicts:

AM shows his sneaker collection. He loved Nikes and Adidas and had over 600 pairs. I love how he says that shoes to him are what jewelry and purses are to women.

DJ AM and Mandy Moore are back together

If there’s any silver lining in the devastating plane crash that killed four people and injured DJ AM and Travis Barker, it’s this story. Singer/actress Mandy Moore, who dated DJ AM earlier this year, rushed to her ex’s side in Atlanta after hearing the news that he’d suffered second and third-degree burns in the accident. Now, it appears that the couple are back on again. It seems that the crash was a wake-up call for both of them to realize how much they mean to each other.

Reunited!

Mandy Moore and Adam “DJ A.M.” Goldstein dated for only two months in 2007, but it looks like that was long enough to form a bond.

“It’s back on,” a DJ A.M. source says in the newest issue of Us Weekly , on stands now. “Since the accident, it’s blossomed into something again.”

(Moore, 24, rushed to DJ A.M.’s side after the September 19 plane crash that left him with burns on his arm and scalp, injured Travis Barker, 32, and killed four others.)

Continues the insider, “Mandy said, ‘I like this guy a lot and I want to see where it can go again. Life is too short to not be with someone you really care about.’”

The pair haven’t been shy about PDA, either.

A witness who saw the two at the October 18 Friendly House event in Beverly Hills says, “He was holding her hand, and they were rubbing each other’s backs.”

So after romances with other members of Young Hollywood — DJ A.M., 35, was once engaged to Nicole Richie, 27, while Moore dated Zach Braff, 33, and Andy Roddick, 26 — could the couple make it work this time?

Says a second DJ A.M. source, “When you go through what Adam went through, you need people you love and people who love you. He will never stop loving her.”

[From Us Weekly]

Everyone was speculating that it would be Travis Barker and ex-wife Shanna Moakler who’d be rekindling their romance, but it looks like Mandy and AM are the real couple. It was clear with Mandy’s response to AM’s tragedy that she still cares for him deeply. Sometimes the worst things bring out the best in people. I hope these two can put the accident behind him and build something new together. Who knows- maybe they’ll even get married.

Friends pay tribute to DJ AM in welcome back concert

Friends and fellow DJs and musicians paid tribute to DJ AM in a welcome back concert in LA last night. AM was critically injured in a fatal small plane wreck that killed four other people less than a month ago. He suffered second and third degree burns to his face and arm, and initial reports about his condition sounded dire. He was released from the hospital less than a week after the accident, though, and is said to be doing well. The other survivor of the crash, AM’s friend Travis Barker, is still in the hospital being treated for third degree burns to the lower part of his body. He has had seven surgeries but is doing well and says he hopes to be released within a week or two.

AM received a hero’s welcome in LA last night. The poster for the event at Avalon in West Hollywood featured his face in a profile illustration in blue and red, similar to the iconic fan-created image of Presidential candidate Barack Obama. The crowd was treated to performances by Cisco and Shwayze, and Mix Master Mike. Danny Masterson and Will.i.am were among the attendees. Proceeds went to a memorial fund for the victim’s families.

AM will DJ for Jay-Z at his Hollywood performance tomorrow. He told People “He’s the greatest rapper in the world. This is the biggest thing that’s happened in my career.”

35 year old DJ AM is rumored to have reconciled with his ex girlfriend, singer Mandy Moore, 24, after she visited him in the hospital. Star reports that they’re a couple again, although other tabloids had AM visited at the hospital by yet another woman whom he was dating more recently.

Travis Barker blogs about hospital life, ex-wife’s lack of support

Travis Barker has continued to speak out about his recovery, this time on his myspace page. It’s great to see him recovering, and hopefully he’s finding the messages for his recovery distracting. Anyone who has had an extended stay in hospital (he’s been in since September 20) know that it is the dullest place on earth, next to Starbucks.

Travis says he is recovering well, and thanks everyone for their support. He also pays tribute to his friends/employees Chris and Che that died in the crash, saying “I would give up anything to have them here with me today.”

Like the doctors said from the beginning, its been a slow recovery process. I am coming up on the 7th of my surgeries Monday. Today I finally was able to move all my fingers on my right hand. Every step seems huge at this point, and Im doing EVERYTHING I can possibly do to get back to my kids. Yes, I did start eating meat again, but if it helps me to be home holding my little humans sooner, then its all worth it. The staff here are all bomb! Dr. Grossman and his staff are the best. The BOSS Barbara, and nurses Betty, Jay , Emily, Julio, Lolita, and Stephanie (with the best scrubs ever!) are all taking the best care of me.

[From Travis Barker's myspace]

Travis also includes some pictures of himself in hospital, which shows his bandages and just how serious the crash was. Burns take an amazingly long time to heal, often years, and multiple surgeries.

Travis has this to say about his ex wife. The emphases are his own, not mine.

Despite any rumors you might have heard via my EX-wife Shanna Moakler, who I have not seen since the week I checked in, Ive been treated amazingly well, both here in LA and in Georgia. The hospitals Ive been treated at are THE BEST.

The comments that Travis refers to were made in this press release.

Today Shanna has a new PETA ad out, just a few days after Travis revealed he is eating meat to help his protein levels. Jaybird commented that at first thought she assumed the often squabbling pair were feuding again, but assumed otherwise. Perhaps they are, after all, when I’m sick I think my tolerance for people drops significantly, and that’s even people I like. It’s not unlikely that they could have had a falling out under those circumstances.

Travis ends by saying he had a visit from DJ AM and found it inspiring, highlighting the excellent medical team at their shared hospital. He also adds that he is sad to have missed his son’s birthday party, but is grateful to be around to see many more.

In the pictures the always thin Travis looks gaunt, and has his right hand bandaged past his elbow.

DJ AM’s rep says he is recovering well

DJ AM is one hell of a lucky guy. Though he was reported to have severe facial burns after escaping a plane crash two weeks ago, his representative says he’s doing really well – and is getting better every day. He hasn’t said a thing directly to the press, and this is the first official comment we’ve really had. His rep seems to think it’s a non-story, which I find kind of surprising. But the man must really want his privacy, and that I certainly understand.

Don’t let the bandages fool you—DJ AM is on the road to recovery.

The music man, real name Adam Goldstein, was photographed Thursday with new bandages on his body—prompting some concern he may have had a recent infection or setback since earlier this week, when he appeared bandageless at Chris Baker’s memorial service.

But AM’s rep Jenni Weinman tells E! News: “There is no story here. He’s home resting and healing.”

After all, nothing says speedy recovery like being well enough to take out the trash.

[From E! News]

E’s last little quip there is because they used a recent photograph of Goldstein taking out the trash. I’ve got to say, as mundane and boring as the picture is, it does show that AM must really be okay if he’s out and about and doing things like that.

I wonder if the initial reports were exaggerated or if AM made an exceptionally good recovery. Considering it seemed like his life was in danger, I’m pretty surprised he’s up and about. Either way, it’s a miracle he lived and is getting better so quickly.

Here’s an older image of AM having lunch with a friend in January. Images thanks to Fame.

DJ AM released from hospital; Travis Barker still being treated

The two survivors of a terrifying plane crash, Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and DJ AM, are on the road to recovery. In fact, DJ AM was released from the hospital this afternoon after being treated for second and third-degree burns. As more details emerge about the crash, their ability to escape the fate that met their friends is even more amazing. Somehow, both men were able to slide out a window near the wing of the plane, and used each other’s bodies to put out the flames that engulfed them. Truly horrifying.

A week after surviving a plane crash that took the lives of four people, DJ AM has been released from Doctors Hospital in August, Georgia, his rep said Friday.

“While he is deeply saddened by the events he is thankful for all of the love and support he has been receiving from fans and friends world wide,” the rep said. “We ask that you continue respect his privacy as he rests and heals and mourns the loss of his friends.”

The 35-year-old, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, was being treated at the hospital’s Joseph Still Burn Center for second- and third-degree burns.

Actress Mandy Moore, his ex, was seen buying a get well gift for him at Mr. Ballon and Cookies by Design in West Hollywood on Thursday.

[From Us Weekly]

Meanwhile, Travis Barker is still hospitalized for second and third-degree burns on the lower half of his body, but friends say that the drummer is responding well to treatment and could be released in a couple of weeks if all goes well.

With friends like Jermaine Dupri, who needs a publicist?

The music producer, Travis Barker’s So So Def clothing line partner, has been speaking out on his on-the-mend friend, saying the former Blink-182 drummer remains positive and is looking forward to leaving the hospital after last week’s fatal plane crash.

Dupri visited Barker, who, along with Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, was critically injured in the incident, at Georgia’s Joseph Still Burn Center on Sunday.

“He’s doing good, he’s gonna be all right. He’s just got a lot of healing to do,” Dupri told People.

“He’s supposed to send a message out to everybody in a couple of days to let everyone know that’s he’s feeling better. He’s definitely feeling the love from everyone.”

Barker’s also feeling the love in the form of a pimped-out hospital room.

“He’s just now getting everything in the hospital set up for him—iPods, computers, everything that he needs,” Dupri added. “You got to make sure he is comfortable.”

His plugged-in suite will also no doubt help Barker communicate with caring fans, something Dupri says his friend is gearing up to do.

“He’s in good spirits,” Dupri added to OK! magazine. “He’s gonna be on iChat in like two days, so he’s going to send you all a message.”

In the interest of good measure, and mad PR skills, Dupri also spoke with Us Weekly about his recovering pal, who has undergone several surgeries to treat the second- and third-degree burns on his torso and lower body.

“It’s a seriously sad situation,” he said. “He’s doing good…but I really hate to see my friends go through this.”

That’s great news for DJ AM, and good news on Travis Barker’s improved condition. We hope both crash survivors continue to get well.

TMZ posts video of Travis Barker pleading for help after craash

TMZ has a post up titled “Travis Cries for Help in Incredible Fiery Aftermath.” It features local news coverage of the dashboard camera video of a police car that was on the scene right after the learjet crashed Friday night in Columbia, South Carolina. You can’t see Barker but you can hear him pleading for an ambulance and the pain and anguish in his voice as he asks for help. Four people died in that crash, and US Weekly has the heartbreaking details if you’re interested.

The video didn’t originate with TMZ, it’s a sensational video that aired on a local ABC newscast, WOLO-TV. It seems to be common practice to air that type of footage and people will watch it like they’ll slow down for a car crash. Maybe I find it a little heartless because I haven’t watched US television in a while, but it just seems disrespectful to the victims’ families and the badly burned survivors to air it.

New video has emerged of the immediate aftermath of the South Carolina plane crash, and it’s a miracle that anyone survived.

WOLO-TV just posted the dash-cam vid from a local police car, and you can hear what is apparently Travis Barker pleading desperately for help.

Meanwhile AM’s ex girlfriend, Mandy Moore, has flown to Georgia to provide support as he is treated in the burn unit of an Augusta hospital. His condition is critical but stable. AM’s doctor says that both he and Barker should make a full recovery.

More details are coming out about the cause of the crash. Some speculated at first that the Learjet may have been overloaded with equipment, but it turns out that a tire burst when the plane was taking off, causing it to careen into a nearby embankment and catch fire. An official for the NTSB is looking into the cause and says that it doesn’t explain the severity of the crash, and that “it is rare for something like that [a burst tire] to end in a fatal accident.”
