Jodie Foster on Mel Gibson: “I will love this man for the rest of my life”

Jan. 26, 2010 - Hollywood, California, United States - Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson during the premiere of the new movie from Warner Bros. Pictures EDGE OF DARKNESS, held at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, on January 26, 2010, in Los Angeles.. K64036MGE. © Red Carpet Pictures

Oh, noes. You remember how Mel Gibson worked with his friend Jodie Foster late last year on a film called The Beaver? Jodie was directing and starring, and she hired her dear friend Mel Gibson to work with her. Jodie and and Mel have been friends for two decades – and before it became common knowledge that Jodie is a lesbian, many suspected that Jodie and Mel were so close, they were having an affair. Still don’t know how that one happened. Anyway, Jodie hadn’t said anything about the Explosion of Hatred, Racism and Glum C-nts coming out of Camp Gibson… until now. Jodie is the cover girl for the October issue of More Magazine, and she talks candidly about her ongoing friendship with Mel… I’m assuming this interview is to promote The Beaver (which should be retitled The Glum C-nt).

Ever since his rage-filled phone calls with his ex-girlfriend were released, Mel Gibson’s life has been a struggle to say the least, but at least he still has Jodie Foster by his side.

“The second I met him [working on 'Maverick' in 1994], I said, ‘I will love this man for the rest of my life,’” Foster tells MORE magazine in their October issue. “When you love a friend, you don’t abandon them when they’re struggling … But more importantly, he is and has been a true and loyal friend. I hope I can get him through this dark moment.”

Foster talked about her latest film project ‘The Beaver’ starring Mel Gibson, the emotional challenge of Gibson’s role and sticking by his side like a true friend.

Gibson plays a suburban husband in ‘The Beaver’ who deals with depression as toy company CEO through an imaginary friend with a hand puppet. Foster called the film, which she directed, an “enormous, enormous, enormous emotional challenge for me.”

Even after distributors told her she couldn’t sell the movie with Gibson in it, Foster called Gibson’s performance “one of his most powerful and moving performances.”

[From PopEater]

Jesus, did Mel help Jodie dispose of a hobo’s body? Maybe when Mel calls Jodie a “glum c-nt” and “Sugart-ts” she thinks he’s joking. Maybe she’s just trying to stick up for her costar and eat sh-t and hope that The Beaver doesn’t bomb too badly. Maybe she’s being a professional. Maybe Mel is in love with Jodie, and she’s just being nice. Or maybe Jodie is just one of the few people that has known and loved Mel for a long time, and their friendship is for real, warts and all. Sigh… I want to bash Jodie, but my heart’s not in it. I see her perspective: in her mind, Mel has some kind of chemical imbalance that makes his alcoholism even worse, and that makes him a victim. Thus, she can explain away all of his monstrous insanity, and still stick by her friend. I value loyalty too, Jodie, but there is such a thing as a “breaking point.”

Did Jodie Foster violently attack a 17-year-old kid? (update)

Does Jodie Foster strike anyone as a violent person? I could only see her pushing someone who is annoying her (like a paparazzo), but I can’t really see her attacking someone. But allegedly, she has. Radar has documentation from an official police report (Radar has it here), in which a 17-year-old maybe-paparazzo/maybe-fan claims Jodie pushed, shoved and scratched him. The kid took some photos of Jodie, and she thought he was a paparazzo, so she attacked him, I think, although this kid’s parents are claiming that he’s just a kid. I don’t know about this whole story, it seems fishy as hell:

Panic Room star Jodie Foster has been accused of battery by a 17-year-old boy RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

“Jodie Foster attacked my son at the parking lot at The Grove,” the father, who wishes to remain anonymous, told RadarOnline.com. “Jodie pushed and shoved him leaving scratches and bruises on his arm.”

According to a police report, the incident occurred on May 29 between 1:50pm and 2:00pm with a report of battery and bodily force. The description reads: “Vict while at The Grove saw susp and began to take pics of susp with his camera then walked to the valet area of The Grove. Susp followed vict, poked him on his chest, grabbed vict by his left arm causing visible injury.”

The father of the alleged victim told RadarOnline.com exclusively: “My son was at The Grove with his girlfriend and they were going to see a movie. He saw Jodie Foster and is a big fan so went over and took a picture of her.

“She came after him, poked him in the chest and said, ‘Do you even have a mother you slime ball?’”

The family tells RadarOnline.com that their son was really confused and apologized profusely to the actress. “He didn’t mouth back at all and was scared of her,” the father said. “At one point Jodie’s son even came over to my son and apologized. Her kids were really embarrassed.

Foster is intensely private about her personal life, especially when it comes to questions about her sexuality. She has two biological sons, Charles, 11, and Christopher, 8, but has never revealed the identity of their fathers.

The family of the alleged victim later went to police who filled out an incident report. Police did not respond at the scene. Because of that the incident report can be a “he said, she said” type of document. Foster’s first name is spelled wrong and her age is incorrect on the document. That information would be supplied by the alleged victim.

But the alleged victim’s father not only insists his was victimized, he’s furious. “On top of it all, he’s a minor!” he told RadarOnline.com. “My wife is furious that while Jodie was trying to protect her children, she wasn’t there to protect her son.

“This left a really bad impression on my son about her. He used to be a big fan and now he has a bad taste in his mouth. He’s a good kid; kind of small for his age. There was no threat to Jodie.”

[From Radar]

Sounds like somebody’s just looking for some money, right? Sure, Jodie guards her private life to the point of paranoia (and for good reason, John Hinckley), and I could see how she would be disturbed if she was out with her kids and someone started taking photos of her. But to attack the guy? Eh. Like I said, I could see her maybe pushing him away if he got in her face, but the truth is that Jodie has been doing this a really long f-cking time, and she knows better. Plus, it’s not like being 17-years-old precludes the kid from being a paparazzo. They get ‘em younger than that at some agencies.

UPDATE: Foster’s rep tells People Magazine that the kid’s version of events is a “fabrication.” Also: “This guy was most definitely a professional paparazzo. He had a large camera bag and 1000mm telephoto lens. He tailed Jodie and followed her all the way from the movie theater to the valet. He crowded her and her two young children and took photos of them the whole time. This guy’s behavior was completely inappropriate and the police report is a fabrication of the incident.” Yeah, I believe Jodie.

Enquirer: Jodie Foster’s girlfriend dumps her for another woman

Jodie Foster out and about in NYC

Jodie Foster’s sexuality was kept quiet for years. I remember very clearly hearing the first inklings about Jodie’s lesbianism around the time The Silence of the Lambs came out, and the gay/bisexual/transgendered community picketed the film because of what they claimed was a negative faux-trangendered stereotype for the character of Buffalo Bill. My mother said something like: “The gay community shouldn’t get so upset, because Jodie Foster is gay. She wouldn’t make a film that was too negative towards that community.” Yes, I’m equating my mother’s idle gaydar gossip with “general gossip”. But my mom was right, wasn’t she? How do you think I got it?

Anyway, Jodie kind-of, sort-of finally publicly acknowledged her lesbianism back in 2007, in a speech thanking her “beautiful Cynthia”. This was after years of heavy speculation, solid reporting, and some coverage within the gay media community that I found a little rough on Jodie’s behalf. Personally, I do think it’s a public person’s responsibility to be honest about their sexuality, but I also think that they should be allowed to do it in their own space and time as long as they’re not engaging in rank hypocrisy (like, say, Sen. Larry “Wide Stance” Craig).

The “beautiful Cynthia” Jodie was referring to was Cynthia “Cindy” Mort, who Jodie began dating in 2006. It was actually a minor scandal once people found out about it – Jodie dumped her long-time partner Cydney Berhard for Cynthia. Now the Enquirer is reporting that Cynthia just dumped Jodie!

Jodie Foster’s heart has been broken – and her pals say she’s got only herself to blame.

The superstar actress is devastated that the woman for whom she dumped her longtime partner has rekindled a romance with an old flame.

“Ironically, now it’s Jodie who has been jilted,” a longtime friend told The ENQUIRER. “She’s miserable.”

As The ENQUIRER revealed in June 2008, the Silence of the Lambs star fell for a new girlfriend – and abruptly dropped Cydney Bernard, her devoted live-in love of 14 years.

The two-time Oscar winner had met her new romantic interest, writer-producer Cindy Mort, while filming The Brave One in 2006.

But now in a classic case of what goes around comes around, Cindy has reignited a romance with a previous gal pal, Amanda Demme, The ENQUIRER has learned.

Amanda is a well-known Hollywood club promoter and the widow of film director Ted Demme. She’s also been romantically linked to Lindsay Lohan.

Jodie, who often plays strong, self-assured women, fell apart at the news, disclosed the friend.

“She was shell-shocked…”

[From the National Enquirer]

This is all so fascinating to me. Probably because I love Jodie Foster, and I’ve always thought that she’s probably a lot more interesting than her bland, privacy-seeking public persona indicated. If this were a heterosexual incident, it would be huge news, I think. Jodie dumping a partner of 14 years (someone she was raising her two kids with) for a younger model, then having that younger model dump her for a younger model. It’s great gossip – but I do feel for Jodie. Poor Jodie.

UPDATE: Okay, there are mixed reports about whether Jodie said “beautiful Cynthia” or “beautiful Cydney”. There are also mixed reports about when and how Jodie and Cydney broke up – whether it was in 2006 or 2008, or somewhere in between. I doubt we’ll ever really know what happened between Jodie, Cynthia and Cydney because Jodie will probably never discuss it publicly.

Jodie Foster was cheating on her longterm partner

The National Enquirer has an exclusive story that Jodie Foster’s 14 year relationship with Cydney Bernard ended after Jodie started cheating with a woman she met on a movie set last year. Jodie and Cydney have two children together, sons aged 6 and 9, and they’re still living together at this point, but Jodie is about to move out:

Jodie Foster cheated on her lesbian partner of 14 years with a younger, prettier woman who is now her new girlfriend!

The ENQUIRER has learned exclusively that the Oscar winner’s new love is brunette Cindy Mort, a producer and screenwriter she met on the set of her 2007 film The Brave One.

The 47-year-old star’s new squeeze is the former partner of thirtysomething actress Melanie Mahron — with whom she has two children!

Meanwhile, 55-year-old Cydney Bernard is still living with Jodie but their romance is over, say sources.

Jodie has never publicly identified the father of her 6- and 9-year-old sons, Charles and Kit.

” Although she and Cydney remain under the same roof at the moment,” a close pal told The ENQUIRER, “the relationship has been shattered.”

[From The National Enquirer's website]

This is the second 14 year relationship that was publicly pronounced over this week due to cheating with a co-worker.

People Magazine has more details of the Shania Twain split, probably leaked by Shania’s camp, and Shania says that the secretary her husband cheated on her with was “one of her best friends,” and that “their two families would vacation and spend holidays together.” Can you imagine?

Hopefully the woman Jodie Foster cheated on her longterm partner with wasn’t someone they knew together, but that must not soften the blow for Cydney. Maybe this story is inaccurate though and they were already separated but living together when Jodie met someone else. It doesn’t sound like that’s the case, but you never know what’s going on in someone else’s home. Right now we’re relying on tabloid reports, and no one is likely to confirm or deny anything. Jodie only acknowledged she even had a partner about five months ago.

Have Jodie Foster and her partner broken up?

Usually, when a Hollywood couple breaks up, there is a certain sense of “I told you so,” which was the case with Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey; Jessica Simpson and John Mayer; Jessica Simpson and Tony Romo…you get the idea. But sometimes Hollywood couple break-up stories are just sad. Liv Tyler’s recent news falls in that category, as does the latest buzz regarding actress Jodie Foster and her longtime partner, Cydney Bernard.

Actress Jodie Foster has reportedly split from her long-time girlfriend Cydney Bernard.

Rumors of Foster’s 14-year relationship with the film producer, 54, had only recently become widespread, although those in Foster’s close Hollywood circle have reportedly known for years.

Lately, the Panic Room star has been more open about her love, reportedly telling a crowd of Hollywood stars in a speech of her domestic situation in December.

And at an awards ceremony, the 45-year-old actress thanked her mate: “My beautiful Cydney, who sticks by me through all the rotten and the bliss.”

But however public or private the relationship, the National Enquirer reports the two have called it quits. The two have acted as parents to Foster’s two children: Charlie, 9, and Kit, 6.

[From NY Daily News]

I really hope it’s not true, but we may never know for sure, since Jodie is fiercely private about her relationship with Cydney. If she never went public with the relationship, it’s doubtful that she’ll comment on its demise. Only a couple of weeks ago there were photos of Jodie and Cydney on vacation with their kids in Hawaii, splashing in the surf and looking very happy.

Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards: Too Much Miley, Not Enough Harrison Ford

If you have children, you were probably subjected to Nickelodeon’s 25th Annual Kid’s Choice Awards ceremony on Saturday night. You have my sincerest condolences. I, too, had to watch, and it was often eyeroll-inducing: lame banter between celebrity presenters; boring and unfunny “behind the scenes” skits; stupid slime stunts that dragged out the show even longer and wayyyy too much Disney product, in the form of Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. Miley Cyrus won favorite female television star and favorite female musical artist, much to my daughter’s delight.

There were a few bright spots in the broadcast, including host Jack Black’s over-the-top opening musical number, in which he wore a bright green superhero costume and rocked out with a giant octopus playing guitar to the Kiss song “I Was Made for Loving You,” with the lyrics changed to “I Was Made for Sliming You.” (In my opinion, Black was the only funny, high-energy part of the show and should have been allowed to riff and get crazy even more.) The theme of each Kids’ Choice Awards, you see, is that celebs and kids in the audience get buckets of green slime poured on their heads at random moments. Slimed celebs included Harrison Ford, who recreated a famous scene from “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” which concluded with him being covered in green slime. Other mildly amusing segments included a celebrity belching contest that featured Jodie Foster attempting to burp along to the song “YMCA.”

All in all, the show had the same problems as most other awards shows: it went on too long, there was too much unfunny dialog, and the host didn’t get enough chances to do what he does best. But if you are at all interested in the winners, here they are.

Favorite TV Show: Drake and Josh
Favorite Reality Show: American Idol
Favorite TV Actor: Drake Bell (from Drake and Josh)
Favorite TV Actress: Miley Cyrus
Favorite Cartoon: Avatar: The Last Airbender
Favorite Movie: Alvin and the Chipmunks
Favorite Movie Actor: Johnny Depp
Favorite Movie Actress: Jessica Alba
Favorite Animated Movie: Ratatouille
Favorite Animated Voice: Eddie Murphy (Shrek The Third)
Favorite Music Group: The Jonas Brothers
Favorite Song: “Girlfriend” by Avril Lavigne
Favorite Female Singer: Miley Cyrus
Favorite Male Singer: Chris Brown
Favorite Male Athlete: Tony Hawk
Favorite Female Athlete: Danica Patrick
Favorite Book: Harry Potter Series
Favorite Video Game: Madden NFL 2008
Wannabe Award: Cameron Diaz

If anything, the Kids’ Choice Awards gives parents a glimpse into the music, movies, and other pop culture their kids like– which should scare the crap out of you. I know I had a hard time sleeping knowing that the youth of America wants to be just like Cameron Diaz.

Another whackjob with a Jodie Foster obsession arrested

What is it about actress Jodie Foster that attracts crazy dudes? First, young Jodie was the object of unnatural obsession by John Hinkley Jr., who, in 1981, was so desperate to prove his love for her, he launched a very nearly successful plan to assassinate President Reagan. Now, a man by the name of Michael Smegal, from Holliston, Massachusetts, has been arrested for sending threatening letters to various airports, including the Van Nuys, California airport. Turns out that Smegal has been stalking Foster for years and has sent her strange and disturbing letters and packages in the past. What gives?

BOSTON – A man who sent Oscar-winning actress Jodie Foster threatening letters for several years was arrested Tuesday on charges of mailing a bomb threat to a suburban Los Angeles airport.

Michael Smegal, 42, of Holliston, Massachusetts, was charged in US District Court in Massachusetts with mailing a threatening letter to Van Nuys Airport in early December.

The letter was one of more than 100 nearly identical letters with references to Foster mailed to celebrities, business executives, airports and other locations around Los Angeles from September 2007 to January 2008, an affidavit said.

Foster, who Academy Awards for playing a rape victim in 1988’s ‘The Accused’ and an FBI agent in 1991’s ‘The Silence of the Lambs,’ received anonymous letters from Massachusetts beginning in 2004. In 2005, Smegal admitted to police he had sent the letters and promised to stop, the affidavit said.

If convicted, Smegal faces up to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.

[From Reuters]

I just keep picturing Smegal from “Lord of the Rings.” I imagine this guy all naked and gnarly with stringy hair, rasping, “My precioussssss,” while mailing letters to Jodie Foster. If I were Jodie, that would keep my awake at night. I feel badly for Jodie. She’s a great actress, and seems very down to earth and a great mom. Yet, she’s a freak magnet. I kinda know how she feels– I seem to attract guys with mommy issues and bad credit.

Jodie Foster is shown on 12/2/07 at Cracked Xmas to benefit The Trevor Project, thanks to PRPhotos.

Jodie Foster kinda sorta acknowledges her lesbian partner

Jodie Foster has long been silent on her sexual orientation. It didn’t seem to bother people until the last couple of years, when there has been an intense scrutiny placed on the sexual orientation of stars. It seems that the people who won’t talk about their orientation get a lot more press than those that come out. The attention paid to Foster’s orientation seemed to swell when she got pregnant with her son Charles ten years ago but refused to talk about the father or the conception. People talked a bit before then, but that seemed to be when it really became water cooler conversation. Foster has steadfastly refused to talk about her private life. However it’s long been assumed that her friend Cydney Bernard is also her lover. And after fourteen years together, it seems Foster may have finally acknowledged Bernard… in a way.

Jodie Foster has finally come out as a lesbian to pay tribute to her girlfriend of 14 years… after winning an award at a Women in Entertainment breakfast, she broke her taboo to thank “my beautiful Cydney”. Her emotional speech brought tears to the eyes of some of her audience at the Beverly Hills Hotel, revealing a vulnerable side to a star who has long resisted calls from gay rights activists to clarify her personal life. Miss Foster, 44, a double Oscar winner, praised her film producer partner Cydney Bernard “who sticks with me through all the rotten and the bliss”.

Accepting the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, she offered an insight into the insecurities that haunt her. “I feel fragile, unsure, struggling to figure it all out, trying to get there even though I’m not sure where there is,” she said.

Last night Kathy Belge, of the website Lesbian Life, said: “I never thought I’d see this day. Perhaps it was because her children are getting older and she didn’t want them to think there was anything wrong with being gay. Perhaps she was simply sick and tired of life in the closet. Whatever her reasons, we are pleased that Jodie found the courage to be true to herself.”

[From the Daily Mail]

I’m a big believer in people’s right to choose how/when/if they disclose their sexual orientation. If Jodie wants to keep it to herself, that’s her business. The only way in which that would bother me is if she felt she HAD to keep it a secret, whether for her career, for her audience, or because she felt ashamed. Though I’m not necessarily her biggest fan, Sharon Osbourne once gave a speech at a gay pride event and talked about her kids’ attributes. She noted, “My only regret is that none of my children are gay.” And while she was trying to be funny, she wasn’t being sarcastic. I liked the attitude that being gay wasn’t just something to deal with, but just another one of a person’s many attributes. I hope that if Jodie Foster ever wants to come out completely, she will. She’s well respected not just as an actress but as a person, and could do a lot of good.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Jodie Foster and Cydney Bernard are shown out in Berlin at the aftershow party for the German Premiere of Flightplan on 10/12/05, thanks to WENN.

Dina Lohan fights back at Jodie Foster

lohan.JPG

Dina Lohan saddens me. Sometimes at night when I lay in bed, unable to sleep, I think about her and how crazy and delusional, and my life seems a lot better in comparison. A LOT of people (probably in the low billions) have blamed Lindsay Lohan’s problems on her mom. If nothing else, she blurred the lines between child and parent in a way that seems to have really messed Lindsay up. But based on most of the stories we’ve read and the pictures we’ve seen, it seems that Dina really encouraged Lindsay’s hard partying lifestyle – for her own gain. Whenever Lindsay’s pathetic state of debauchery is brought up with other celebrities, they always bring up Dina Lohan. I’m pretty sure a press release must have gone out to all of Hollywood, instructing all celebrities to comment on her stupidity. Jodie Foster mentioned Dina in an interview – nothing new or surprising in and of itself. But of course Dina can’t keep quiet and has to fire back, in her written-by-Opera-and-or-a-therapist style that makes me want to slap her.

“In response to Jodie Foster’s question in a Gotham magazine interview, ‘Can I just ask, where is [Lindsay Lohan's] mother? I mean, really, where is her mother?’ Dina answers: I’m right here, waiting to be called out so I can contact a gossip website and fight back. Lohan tells 24Sizzler.com about Foster’s remarks:

“‘It really saddens me that a mom would comment on another mom without ever meeting me! Ironically Lindsay’s talent was compared to Jodie Foster’s as a little girl! I don’t know what Jodie dealt with as a young Hollywood actress but I do know if it weren’t for her mother she would not be a successful actress today! I’m sure her mother made many sacrifices for her to be successful.

“All we want as parents is to cultivate our children’s dreams, whatever field they choose. She has no idea who we are and what we have dealt with! If she has a question to ask me, don’t ridicule me publicly! She should know how the press twists the truth! Don’t judge without facts!”

[From Us Magazine]

When you make your life – and your daughter – so ridiculously public, people will judge without meeting you. Each person who writes about you doesn’t need to have sat don for a heart to heart to realize you’re a moron who’s whored her daughter out in some pathetic attempt to grab a little bit of fame for yourself. Well, now you have it. Dina Lohan seems to really think she has some sort of moral high ground over the rest of the world. You know how annoying it is when people say they don’t have the problem, it’s the rest of the world that has it? That’s pretty much Dina Lohan’s mentality. “Hey, I don’t have the problem for doing coke with my daughter, the rest of the world has the problem for judging me without meeting me!” Dina Lohan, you’re the problem. You’re completely delusional. Feel free to send your retort to all the blogs now.

Picture note by JayBird:

Here’s Dina Lohan’s upper annoying upper lip celebrating her cover appearance on The Boulevard Magazine last year. Why is she on the cover of a magazine? Because she’s a famous hanger-on. Images thanks to PR Photos.

Inside Man NY Premiere

“Inside Man” starring Denzel Washington, Jodie Foster and Clive Owen premiered last night in NY. The film is an action movie featuring Washington as cop negotiating with a bank robber who has taken hostages:

“Inside Man” is the story of a tough cop, Detective Frazier (Denzel Washington), who matches withs with a clever bank robber, Dalton (Clive Owen). As the dangerous cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a wild card emerges: Madaline (Jodie Foster), a power broker with a hidden agenda, who injects even more instability into an already volatile situation.

Initial reviews are positive despite the familiar plot, and with such a talented cast it should be a great film.

Foster, Owen, and Washington attended last night’s premiere. Other celebrities pictured include featured stars Willem Dafoe, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Darryl Mitchell, and Kim Director. Well known names in attendance were Wesley Snipes, Jill Hennessy, Mariska Hargitay, Lynn Whitfield, the Reverend Al Sharpton, and Russell Simmons – without his annoying wife.

12 more pictures after the jump.
