Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman were on Oprah yesterday, and I think recent coverage of the slightly additional movement in Nicole’s face has been accurate. She still looked like a delicate porcelain doll. Both Nicole and Keith have projects to promote, with Nicole promoting her new movie Rabbit Hole, out in limited release December 17 in the US, and Keith promoting his upcoming album, Get Closer, out November 16. They each said some very emotional, personal things about each other and their daughter Sunday Rose, two, and I was struck by how alike they are. I’ve found Nicole to be affected and overly flowery, but she seems to have met her match in Keith. They come across as deeply in love and more than willing to share it with the world. Here’s some of what they told Oprah. Keith also read a love note to Nicole, which is included in his CD liner notes:

Keith on how Nicole saved him from addiction early in their marriage
Reality hit home when Nicole and a few close friends staged at intervention for Keith. “It was really a profound moment in so many ways. Then, the way in which Nic handled that moment was just perfect,” Keith says. “Everything was just designed, I believe, for that moment to fuse us together.”

At first, Keith says he questioned whether he should go to rehab so soon after getting married. “[I thought], ‘Surely let’s give it a few years so we’ve got some solidity, because this kind of thing could tear us apart,’” Keith says. “‘This could just destroy us.’”

Ultimately, he decided it was time to get help. Keith left the same night as the intervention for treatment. “I just said, ‘I don’t want to do anything but go,’” he says. “I didn’t care about anything else.”

On how Nicole opened his heart
Early in his relationship with Nicole, Keith says they went to a park. While sitting on a bench, he says he asked her, “How’s your heart?”

“I didn’t know why I asked that question,” Keith says. “I’d never asked anybody that before. I don’t know what answer I was expecting.”

She answered, “It’s open.”

“It was not only beautiful because it said so much about her, but it instantly made me ask myself: ‘Is mine? Is my heart open?’” Keith says. “‘Or is it 80 percent open, but I’ve got a little exit strategy? If I do, then why is that?’”

As anyone who’s ever loved and lost knows, once you’ve had your heart broken, it’s hard to love again. For this reason, Keith says he was scared. “I looked back and realized that I stayed in this pattern because I wasn’t really loving,” he says. “I hadn’t met the right person. I wasn’t the right person, but I wasn’t really giving myself fully. I was holding back because I was scared.”

It’s all very sappy to me, but if that’s how they roll and they’re both deeply committed and in love good for them. It’s like Keith is even more of a romantic than Nicole, and she seems to eat it up. I don’t remember hearing that Nicole staged an intervention for Keith to go to rehab. It must have been a tough thing to deal with so early in their marriage, and seems to have made their relationship much stronger.

Last night after the Oscars and local news Jimmy Kimmel aired a funny skit called The Handsome Men’s Club featuring cameos by such attractive souls as Sting, Patrick Dempsey, a shirtless Gilles Marini (from Sex and The City), Rob Lowe, John Kraskinski, Matthew McConaughey, Ethan Hawke, Josh Hartnett, Taye Diggs, Tony Romo, Keith Urban, Lenny Kravitz, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. The bit went on way too long and was just an excuse to add cameos by countless celebrities. Every time you turned around it seemed a new celebrity was shown sitting around the ever-expanding table. The premise was that Kimmel was the head of the self-obsessed Handsome Men’s Club and was being voted out by the members for not being handsome enough. Matthew McConaughey challenged Kimmel’s presidency and then Rob Lowe pointed out that Kimmel was wearing Spanx. Kimmel countered that he looked just like Taye Diggs, to which Taye and the members objected.

The whole thing was ridiculous and was capped off in true Kimmel style with his buddies Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Affleck voted against Kimmel, shamefaced, and then Damon entered at the end and laughed maniacally, telling us we were out of time (a long running Kimmel gag). Next we saw Kimmel in bed spooning with his lover Affleck, realizing the whole thing was a bad dream. Affleck reassured Kimmel that he was attractive and was his “big daddy handsome,” at which point Ben’s wife, Jennifer Garner, popped out of bed and said “Ben, that’s enough, it’s getting weird.”

I didn’t think Kimmel could top his “f’ing Ben Affleck” response to then-girlfriend Sarah Silverman’s viral video, “I’m f’ing Matt Damon.” He did, though, sort of. It was more by sheer star power rather than hilarity, although I was pretty amused, particularly by Damon. He always manages to crack me up.

Nicole Kidman’s 1-year-old daughter Sunday Rose isn’t one of those celebrity babies who’s always up for a candid photo-op. Nicole has only been photographed with Sunday a handful of times since giving birth to her in July of 2008, and for the most part, Sanday has been pretty covered up. I was hoping Sunday would take after her mom – that we would see a little pale, carrot-top style-icon-in-training. It turns out that Nicole and husband Keith Urban are pretty happy raising Sunday away from the spotlight of New York and Los Angeles, setting up their home base in Nashville.

It was in Nashville that Nicole, Keith and Sunday were photographed chilling out. Keith stopped by their Nashville home base between tour dates – and I would assume that Nicole’s been in Nashville for most of the summer. These are the best pictures I’ve seen of Sunday, and I can see now that she definitely takes after her dad. She’s a cute little brunette, and I don’t see much of Nicole in her sweet little face. She’s still adorable, but I had my heart set on a ginger. Oh, well.

The only thing I’ve heard about or seen of Nicole in the past few months has been her brief appearance on Project Runway’s “All-Star Challenge”. The news of Nicole’s appearance leaked a few days before the premiere, and I had my heart set on something really cool. Unfortunately, Nicole only appeared on the show via some kind of pre-taped thing, where she basically read off a prepared speech to the designers. It sucked. There’s some talk that Nicole would wear the winning “red carpet look” to one of the premieres of Nine, which comes out in November. The winner of the challenge turned out to be Season 2’s runner-up, Daniel Vosovic. I like Daniel, but Korto Momolu’s line was so much prettier – and Nicole would have looked gorgeous in any of her fantastic, more sophisticated dresses. I seriously doubt Nicole will end up wearing the black-and-white cocktail dress Daniel designed. Daniel later told the Los Angeles Times, “I thought it would be phenomenal on Nicole Kidman. We’ll see if we can get her in it!” Good luck with that.

There are rumors swirling that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are expecting their second child together. Daughter Sunday Rose (or Sunday Roast, if you prefer) was born last July to great fanfare in Nashville (born on a Monday, I might add). Nicole turns 42 years old on June 20th, and Keith is 40 years old. The main reason people seem to be gossiping about Nicole’s womb seems to be for two reasons. First, she was photographed with a “bump” recently, which could mean she’s either pregnant or she’s just started looking less fragile and emaciated (good for her). Secondly, she’s gone back to her bright red hair after spending the past five years or so trying to convince us she’s a strawberry blonde. I don’t really see what the red hair has to do with babies, considering she was doing that blonde stuff to her hair throughout her pregnancy with Sunday, but whatever:

Word in Hollywood is that Kidman — who recently dyed her hair back to her natural color, red, and has been sporting a poochy stomach — is pregnant again.

Kidman and husband Keith Urban have one child, Sunday Rose, but Kidman’s talked about her trouble getting pregnant in the past — and how she’d like more children.

I don’t doubt that Nicole would like another baby, and if she is pregnant, good for her. But I doubt it. Then again, I have significant bias about Nicole’s first pregnancy – I tended to think there was something sketchy about the whole deal, but I’m probably in the minority. In any case, with Sunday’s gestation, Nicole announced her pregnancy in the first trimester. So why wouldn’t she tell us this time?

Note by Celebitchy: I don’t think Nicole is pregnant as she doesn’t have much of a tummy at all. She sometimes has that tiny “pooch” but it’s very small and doesn’t mean she’s expecting.

Keith Urban and Tom Cruise, the current and former husbands of Nicole Kidman, were both in Daytona on Sunday. Early reports say that the two men seemed to only meet each other face to face once, but spent the rest of the time avoiding one another.

Urban was there to perform – which he did, not only for an official concert, but he also played for the journalists who trying to ask him such pressing questions as “Keith, what’s your favorite racing movie?” and “Why are you playing music right now?” Tom Cruise was there because… he loves racing? I think that’s it.

TMZ is reporting that the two men “came face-to-face during the driver’s meeting” and that they “shook hands and had a few laughs”. It seems like manufactured drama, right? The Associated Press has more details on Keith Urban’s press conference. Guess what? It seems like Keith doesn’t care for Days of Thunder! Shocking.

Country music star Keith Urban performed a surprise two-song set for reporters to kick off his day at the Daytona 500, where he was the featured artist for Sunday’s pre-race concert.

“First time playing a press room,” he quipped before launching into “Sister Golden Hair” by America.

It was the first press room concert performed by any of the musical acts that Daytona International Speedway officials have brought before the media. Urban said he wasn’t trying to one-up previous music guests Big & Rich, Bon Jovi or Brooks & Dunn, but played because “I just wanted to get in my comfort zone.”

Urban took brief questions and laughed awkwardly when asked what his favorite racing movie is.

“Uhhhhh … `Cars’?” he stammered, choosing the animated movie over the more obvious “Days of Thunder” that featured his wife, Nicole Kidman, with her ex-husband, Tom Cruise.

Later, Urban and Cruise both attended the pre-race driver meeting. The two were seated on opposite ends, but Cruise heartily applauded Urban when the singer was introduced.

Urban also joked to reporters that he’s never driven more than 65 mph in his personal car, before coming clean.

“Maybe 130,” he said was his fastest. “It was pretty insane. It was only for a glimpse.”

Urban is scheduled to perform three songs from his new album “Sweet Thing,” which is set for release next month. He performed the title track for reporters to end the 10-minute session.

Urban also said he and Kidman were glad to offer their support to victims of the wildfires in their native Australia. The couple recently donated more than $300,000 to a relief fund.

This is one of those times I feel bad for Tom Cruise (praise Xenu). He’s been working hard, building his comeback brick by labored brick. Tom probably just wanted to go to Daytona and blow off some steam, watch some racing and have a nice day off. And now he has to deal with all of the manufactured drama. It seems like Tom and Keith were both gracious, right? Like, what’s the big deal? Why in the world wouldn’t Nicole’s former and current husbands get along?

Both Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise have managed to handle themselves with a lot of grace regarding their marriage and divorce. Though they did eventually discuss some of their deeper disappointments, neither of them did it in a salacious or defamatory way. They also seem to have been very gracious and congratulatory with each other when they moved on to new phases in their lives: getting remarried, having new children, etc.

Nicole was recently asked by Elle magazine about her relationship with husband Keith Urban. Said that she never dreamed that she’d meet someone that she felt something deeper for with than she felt for Tom, but she did. She also said Tom has that same deeper connection with Katie.

“I didn’t foresee it, that you can meet somebody who you have a deep and more profound love with,” the actress – who divorced Tom Cruise in 2001 – tells November’s Elle.

“I don’t mean to take away anything with Tom, but I would hope that he has the same thing – I know he has the same thing with Katie,” Kidman adds. “You move into a stage where you’re able to be a more fuller [sic] person in your relationship.”

She continues, “I want to be really careful with that because I don’t want to take away from 11 years with that man that were really important. Really, for our kids — they were amidst a lot of love. It wasn’t bad. And now we’re amidst a more evolved love.”

Does she have any regrets about marrying Cruise at the young age of 22?

“Um, no. Would I want my kids to get married at that age? No!” Kidman says. “But that was an extraordinary thing for me. [Tom] taught me an enormous amount — as a girl into a woman. Absolutely, I would do it again.”

It’s interesting that there clearly isn’t the same level of interest in Nicole and Keith’s relationship as there is in Tom and Katie’s. Almost every article that talked about this headline was titled something like “Nicole Kidman: Tom Has a “More Profound” Love With Katie Holmes.” Which is technically what she said, but completely misses the context. But Tom and Katie probably sell more because their relationship confuses and intrigues people. Though Nicole and Keith seem a little unusual, they don’t seem whacky by any stretch. Tom and Katie’s relationship seems so superficial – at least the part that they show to the rest of the world – that you’re just left sitting there befuddled, trying to figure it all out.

Nicole also talks about giving birth for the first time at 41 and the ways it’s different to be a mother at this age than when she was younger. The way she puts it, it sounds like there’s a lot more anxiety for her now, and like she actually feels more intensely about motherhood.

On becoming a mother later in life:
“At 41, it’s a more painful love. I look at that little girl, and I’m, like, Oh, no, what’s going to happen? It’s almost like my heart is stretching; I’m feeling all these muscles stretch with emotion. It’s a beautiful love but there’s a lot of fear and pain for her life, and for Bella’s and Connor’s life. I like to believe that nothing was stopping Sunday from coming into the world.”

On natural childbirth:
“It was the most beautiful thing to go through with him [husband Keith Urban]. I had a great team of women, too. At one point there were nine women in the room and Keith.”

Nicole seems to have to catch herself every so often and include Conner and Isabella in her statements. In the one above, it sort of seems like they’re added in there as an afterthought.

Nicole pays the ultimate compliment to Keith in the article, saying, “‘He’s the greatest man besides my dad I’ve ever met,’ the actress says. ‘He’s loyal and he’s a soul searcher.’” It sounds like they’re clearly a much better fit for each other, and have an entirely different kind of love than Nicole ever had with Tom. If nothing else, it seems like they’re both really happy in their lives and their families.

Nicole Kidman’s adopted children, Connor and Isabella, reportedly don’t see much of her since her split with Tom Cruise, but the two did meet Nicole’s six week old daughter shortly after her birth, according to OK!

OK! reports Isabella and Connor secretly flew to Nashville to meet half-sister Sunday Rose Urban in late July.

“Connor and Bella don’t see that much of their mother,” an insider tells OK! “But everyone felt it was important for them to meet their new sister.”

Connor and Isabella stay mostly out of the spotlight, unlike their other half-sister, Suri Cruise, who is a tabloid staple and fashion icon at the ripe old age of 2.

Nicole and Keith recently brought Sunday back to their native Sydney to show her off to family and friends.

“We’ve brought her back to meet the grandparents,” Nicole says. “My mom was there for the birth, but my dad hasn’t met her. And Keith’s mom and dad are coming.”

Nicole and Keith are in the minority of major stars who have yet to sell their newborn baby’s pictures to a magazine for millions of dollars.

Nicole should begin promotions soon for her latest film Australia with Hugh Jackman, which will be released November 14. Keith is scheduled to perform September 4 from New York City’s Columbus Circle for the “NFL Opening Kickoff 2008 Presented by EA Sports.”

Before she gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose, Keith Urban honored wife Nicole Kidman in classic gentleman style: he got her name tattooed on his bicep. There were rumors that he’d bought her a $73,000 Cartier ring as a “thanks for carrying my child” present – but this – THIS really means something.

The country music singer had his arm inked with his wife-of-one-year’s name just weeks before she gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose. The proud dad showed off his decorated bicep as he headed through Los Angeles airport at the weekend.

The tattoo is not Urban’s first. He already has Amor Vincit Omnia on his arm, which reads Love Conquers in Latin.

He and then girlfriend, supermodel Niki Taylor, had the matching tattoos during their relationship in the 90s.

He has now had this altered to include Nicole’s initials.

I think I’d go for the ring myself. Though I like the permanence of the tattoo – it says, “Only someone with a needle can change how I feel for you.” A ring can fall off while you’re doing the dishes – and poof, no more love, as far as symbols go. I was able to find a picture of Keith with the Nicole tattoo from June, so he’s obviously had this done for a little while. Everything considered, I think it’s sweet and it suits him.

Nicole Kidman gave birth three weeks ago, and now it’s time to go back to work. For a few days, anyway.

Kidman will head back to the set in a couple of weeks to re-shoot scenes for the epic film Australia, directed by Baz Luhrmann, her co-star Hugh Jackman told Access Hollywood at Comic-Con 2008 in San Diego.

Jackman said he was happy for Kidman and award-winning country singer husband Keith Urban on their baby news, but filming was tough for the actor during her pregnancy.

“I am beyond happy for her. I mean she is an amazing woman. She’s been a great friend of ours for a long time,” Jackman said. “To have this moment is just thrilling. It wasn’t always thrilling for her while we were shooting in Australia, let me tell you!”

I think it is a shame that she’ll be heading back to work so quickly, but it is only to wrap up her last project. Australia is going to be a huge film, set in the North of the continent during the Darwin bombings by the Japanese during World War II, which are called ‘Australia’s Pearl Harbour’ because both attacks were unexpected. A lot of the facts from this attack were censored until recently so Baz is going to address those issues, focusing on the indigenous Aboriginal population who were not counted as citizens during the war.

Here’s a synopsis of the film from the official website. I think it gives too much away, so skip it if you don’t like spoilers.

Australia is the story of Lady Sarah Ashley (Nicole Kidman), an English, aristocratic woman who leaves England to follow her husband to Australia. He is in Australia with the intention of selling his cattle station the size of Belgium. However, Lady Ashley believes he is having an affair and travels out there to confront him. The property is in the north of Australia, and she embarks on an African Queen type journey, accompanied by a rough, hewn cattle drover (Hugh Jackman). Ultimately, Lady Ashley finds herself inheriting the cattle station and, in order to save it, she and the drover must undertake an epic cattle drive to Darwin. In the course of that journey, she falls in love with the drover, and the Australian landscape, and realises that her life is not over, and there’s always a new life to be had. The title Australia is intended to sum up the story of her life – her journey, the landscape, and the people she meets – all of which transform her life forever.

We’ve seen super skinny Nicole out without her baby but we still haven’t seen Sunday Rose yet, although the gossip mags call her ‘beautiful’. I thought she might release a picture of the baby the same way she did of her wedding but none yet. The Australian media have dubbed the baby ‘Sunday Roast’ because of the local tradition of having a hot roast after church. I think that is cute, but I’m not sure that is what Nicole and Keith had in mind when naming their daughter.

Nicole has two films scheduled for next year, including Need where she works with friend Naomi Watts. There are also some reports in the British tabloids she’ll be moving to Los Angeles to be closer to her teenage children.

We have long proclaimed that the amount of money celebrities are being paid for photos of their new babies is absolutely ridiculous. Many of them are supposedly competitive with one another, and get angry with other celebs get more money. Which is just disgusting. Not surprisingly, those same celebs are the ones that never mention donating the enormous sums – leaving us to believe that they probably pocket several million dollars.

Luckily, Nicole Kidman has more class than that. She and husband Keith Urban have chosen not to sell photos of their first biological child, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, born last week. The couple hasn’t yet decided if they’ll release photos to the press, but if they do it’ll be free of charge.

The star couple have yet to decide whether to release a photograph officially but, if they do, it will be free, a source close to them said.

“They don’t think it’s appropriate to make deals. They are still deciding how they feel about – if and when they will release a photo at all. But they realise there is enormous interest from the public and they are grateful and appreciative of that,” the source said.

“… Nicole and Keith have been enjoying their first few days at home with the baby – Nicole is thinking about things like breastfeeding right now.”

Good for her. I thought the way Jennifer Lopez and Christina Aguilera bartered over the price of their baby photos was really disgusting. And although Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will likely end up with the most exorbitant price ever, it’s widely assumed that they will donate the entire amount. I think either donating the fee or doing it for free is the only way for celebs to debut their babies with class.

Many celebs that have gone the free route have simply not gone out of their way to make a big deal out of their new baby’s photos – and let the paparazzi get a few snaps. The idea of profiting off new babies is absolutely abhorrent, so let’s applaud the celebs who still have some class.
