Liev Schreiber hosted Dewar’s “Hot Scot” party at Cielo last night in New York. Noticeably absent was his girlfriend of one year, Australian actress Naomi Watts.

Watts and Schreiber have been plagued by breakup rumors since Watts attended the Oscars alone. The NY Daily News reported a couple weeks ago that the two were seeking different partners and that a source said Watts found Schreiber too controlling.

Reader Millie e-mailed her take on the relationship. She thinks that the control issue is bogus and that Schreiber remains interested and wants to marry Watts, but that she has cold feet. She also points out a video of Schreiber protecting Watts from the paparrazi that was filmed in late January as clear evidence that he cares for her.

To further complicate matters, Watts might be pregnant.

Update: We posted high-res pictures of Naomi Watts in a sheer top and miniskirt with the assumption that they were new. Reader Millie alerted us that the pictures were from last July and sent us these more recent pictures of Watts. Obviously we can’t draw conclusions about Watts’ pregnancy status based on those old pictures!

The pictures of Watts in a blue shirt were taken on March 9th, and the pictures in a white dress are from mid February. Millie points out that her boobs are bigger - a sign of pregnancy. Is Watts going to be a single mom?

Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts are having relationship trouble after nearly a year of dating. Friends say the two are looking for new partners and admit that things are not going well. Schreiber is said to be too controlling, and may want Watts to quit working to have a baby:

Schreiber sounds like an asshole with that comment, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he’s controlling. There’s something smarmy about the guy and we hope Watts is able to find someone who supports his career rather than trying to tell her what to do.

Naomi Watts has mentioned that she would like to take some time off from acting and “start a family.” That’s celebrity code for “I’m pregnant.” Watts is on minor bump-alert watch after wearing a complicated dress with a shredded front to the Oscars. A piece of gauze draped over her midsection may have been a misguided attempt to hide a small bump. Her Oscar after-party dress was an ugly flower print number with a flouncy lace front and even more tummy coverage.

Female First reports that Watts had to be sewn into her Givenchy Oscar gown. Surely that means she’s gained a little where it counts:

Watts admits that she eats. That is also celebrity-speak for “I’m pregnant.”

The article goes on to quote Watts saying that she wants to take time off to “start a family.” I wanted to jump all over that, because it sounds as if she’s hinting at a pregnancy. Sadly, those comments were made back in December, when there was only a small amount of buzz about Watt’s potential pregnancy.

Watts has been dating Liev Schrieber for almost a year.
