Wentworth Miller says he’s not gay, just shy and concentrating on career

In the October edition of the German version of In Style, Wentworth Miller answers a journalist’s question of whether he’s gay and says he’s not and looks forward to having a “girlfriend and a family.” He hasn’t met the right person yet because he’s so busy working. Leave it to a German interviewer to ask a direct question:

The interviewer asks: “There are rumors that you prefer men.”

Wentworth replies: “I’m not gay, but that rumor can’t be killed. I’d like to have a girlfriend and a family. But I haven’t met the right one yet. Until then I’m focusing on my job. I had to wait so long for this chance I savor every second on set even if it means 14 hours of shooting a day.”

Earlier in the interview Wentworth says that he gets invited to parties and women slip him their numbers all the time, but he doesn’t call them because he is too shy.

I love how he also says that he doesn’t call women, as if he’s trying to cover his ass in case someone brings it up. As I mentioned in a post covering the news that Miller was photographed out with TR Knight’s ex, an equally attractive actor named Luke MacFarlane, It really doesn’t matter if Miller is gay or not and that’s his business. If he does prefer men, he’s probably realistically concerned that his career could suffer as a result. Not everyone is open-minded enough to accept an openly gay actor in a straight role.

For some reason I don’t believe that Miller is actually shy. Maybe it’s because he plays such a convincing self-assured character on Prison Break, but that just must mean he’s a talented actor.

In Style also listed his top six favorite things in order, with Reese’s peanut butter cups and Abercrombie and Fitch topping the list. Scrabble and The Simpsons also rate high:

1. Reese’s chocolate
2. Abercrombie and Fitch
3. Scrabble
4. The Simpsons
5. Evian Water
6. Literature

Miller also credits Mariah Carey with helping to jump start his career. He appeared in the “We Belong Together: video, and is quoted as saying “The two days I spent working on her video did more for my career, gave me more exposure, than anything I’d done before Prison Break.”

Miller also says he doesn’t understand the fact that he’s a sex symbol. He says he looks the same as he has for 10-15 years, and that he doesn’t have a “brooding look,” he’s just squinting because his eyes are sensitive.

Miller is the sex no matter how much he denies it. I am constantly drooling over him on Prison Break, and that deep calm voice of his just kills me.

The third season of Prison Break premiered in the US on Fox on September 17th.

Wentworth Miller is shown at Entertainment Weekly’s pre-Emmy party on 9/15/07. Thanks to PRPhotos for these pics.

Wentworth Miller is a diva on set (update)

Wentworth Miller is said to be “self-important” and acting “like a spoiled princess” on the set of Prison Break. He specifically forbids extras to talk to him and is said to have thrown hissy fits and flipped off the crew.

In contrast, his on-screen brother Lincoln, played by Dominic Purcell, is well liked on set and is said to be friendly with the crew and cast.

“Wentworth’s out of control with his self-important attitude,” an eyewitness on the set told The Enquirer. “The guy’s got the production assistants waiting for him with his flip-flops and beverages between scenes. They’re trained to respond to his every whim.”

The British-born Wentworth, 35, who’s guest-starred on dozens of shows including “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “ER,” was not well-known until he landed one of the starring roles on the Fox action series.

Gearing up for its third season, the show features Wentworth as hero Michael Scofield, who enters prison to help his false accused brother Lincoln, played by Dominic Purcell, to break out.

But Wentworth’s bravado ends when the cameras shut off, says the set insider.

In fact, he’s “downright prissy!”

While co-star Dominic chats up extras and crewmembers, Wentworth has given orders for everyone to leave him alone.

“He even told the director: ‘I don’t want the extras talking to me,’” said the insider.

“That’s rich coming from someone who did extra work for a long time before he got lucky with ‘Break’.”

According to the insider, Wentworth also “throws fits” and whines “in a high-pitched voice” when he’s not getting his way.

“He has even flipped off the crew during his fits,” said the insider.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, September 3, 2007]

There isn’t a specific story of something Wentworth did on set other than being generally bitchy and flipping off the crew, so maybe he’s just standoffish and not as bad as they say.

I love the guy in Prison Break and as long as he’s simply demanding and not too over the top, why should it hurt his career? There aren’t any stories of him being snotty to waitresses or throwing fits on planes, so I would bet he’s moderately high strung and likes things a certain way. He may have a sense of entitlement, but he’s not late on set, neglecting his work or generally partying all over Hollywood. Our standards are low for celebrities, but this story about Wentworth certainly seems to be within the realm of acceptable star behavior.

As I said in an earlier story about Wentworth this week, he needs to go on to A-list film work. He’s already got the attitude down, and you know he can nail even the fiercest role.

Update The commentors here and most everyone on ONTD, where this news was posted (thanks!) says that Miller is known to be very nice to his fans and extremely humble. People have friends who have met him and gush about how great he is. He is known to be a very gracious and kind person, and everyone is saying this story is total b.s.

Thanks to Just Jared for these scans of Wentworth in German GQ, where there are a lot more pictures from the magazine.

Wentworth Miller out with an equally attractive guy

My husband I and love Prison Break. We are still watching season two over here in Switzerland, although I read all the spoilers on Wikipedia and enjoy teasing him by revealing key plot details while he hums and covers his ears. The episodes are getting more outrageous and the plot twists are beyond plausible, but if you watch it you’re willing to buy all the near brushes with capture and unexplained getaways because it sucks you in. This is due in no small part to Wentworth Miller’s charisma and commanding presence. You believe the guy is capable of anything, and you want to follow him around while he deftly evades authority.

Anyway there have been rumors for quite some time that Wentworth Miller plays for the opposite team. It doesn’t matter to me because I’m married anyway, and there’s little chance any of these hot famous guys would give me the time of day even if I was single. I’m cute and all, but I’m not surgically enhanced or delusional. You can appreciate a hot guy who’s not into women as much as one who is. Once you’re hitched you’re not getting anything else, so you may as well accept that it’s all fantasy.

Miller was photographed out with a guy who is known to be gay and is just as attractive as he is, and rumors are heating up. He was seen with Luke MacFarlane, who is TR Knight’s ex boyfriend and was on Over There and Brothers and Sisters. It’s possible these two are friends who are both actors and are super hot and dress alike. They do have a lot in common.

Here’s the description from Just Jared, where we found the pictures:

Wentworth Miller hangs out actor pal Luke MacFarlane in Los Angeles on Saturday.

According to spywitnesses, the pair first avoided being photographed together, but eventually walked down the street together with a smile.

Wentworth, 35, and Luke, 27, started their day off together by visiting printing store Kinko’s, where the Prison Break star surfed the web.

Afterwards the pair grabbed some drinks from Starbucks and headed to a small art gallery in Culver City. Finally, Went and Luke went to the In-N-Out Burger drive-thru and called it a day.

A lot of gay actors and actresses are closeted not because they’re trying to hide their orientation, but because they realistically fear that their career will suffer. If the public sees tons of pictures of an actor or actress out with their same sex significant other we’re supposedly less likely to find them believable in, say, a romantic comedy with a member of the opposite sex. I have a gay family member who is out and proud. Maybe because of that I like to think that I’m unbiased enough to find a gay person entirely believable in a straight role.

I would love to see Wentworth Miller go on to A-list film career, perhaps as a Jason Bourne type of sensitive action hero or a James Bond level seducer. He’s so good on Prison Break, and he needs to be cast in some top films. Maybe it’s best if we don’t know the real news about Miller in case there’s even a small chance that rumors can affect his career. He’s a talented guy and someone needs to consider him for a leading role in a box office hit.

I’m not outing the guy, I’m just reporting on news that’s already out and not saying that it’s true. Hopefully there is a distinction and that’s different from going after someone. Feel free to bash me if I’m wrong, because I have some misgivings about covering this.

Thanks to JJB for linking this, and to Just Jared for the photos, where you can see a lot more pictures of Wentworth and Luke.
