Angelina Jolie’s Moscow ‘Salt’ premiere shunned by real Russian spies

angelina_jolie_5_wenn2938980

Yesterday, we got some of the photos from Angelina Jolie’s big Russian trip, where she did a photo call and premiered Salt in Moscow. The photos are great – one of the rare times I’ve ever seen Angelina wear red on a red carpet. Maybe she just thought red would be a more Russian color? Probably. The dress is Versace, and I wish she would have worn it for the LA premiere, because it’s one of the best dresses she’s worn in years.

Anyway, last week there was a lot of gossip that Angelina had personally invited Russian spy Anna Chapman (the hottie spy who was just thrown out of America) to the Moscow premiere. Chapman stood Angelina up, however. But it seems like Angelina still got a really great reception from the Russian Brangeloonies. I would have paid to have seen this, honestly:

Angelina Jolie, dressed in an appropriately red evening gown, took Moscow by storm Sunday night at the Russian premiere of her summer spy flick, “Salt.”

“Angelina, Angelina” chants and clapping filled the air as Jolie, who plays a CIA officer accused of being a Russian sleeper-spook, signed autographs, posed for the cameras and kissed one little girl on the cheek at the Oktyabrskiy theater.

“It’s been my dream to see her since I was 10 years old. My room is covered with her pictures,” gushed Dasha Vorontzova, 21, who bares a striking resemblance to Jolie and traveled nearly 1,400 miles from Siberia to Moscow for the premiere. “When I saw this woman I started shaking! She came to Russia for the first time in this [95 degree] heat. She said a Russian word and she signed autographs for so long.”

Jolie had the Russians cheering at “Spasibo,” charming the audience with her Russian during the film’s introduction. Her “Dobriy Vecher!” – Russian for Good Evening – greeting was met with screams and whistles.

“This is my first premier in Moscow and I’m so excited to be here,” she said switching into English. “I hope you enjoy the film. I tried to speak a bit of Russian. I hope I did okay.”

Once the projectors started rolling, the audience cheered and clapped for any references to Russia and with particular zest for a scene where a fur hat clad Jolie rides the Staten Island Ferry.

One real Russia spy was notably absent from the festivities. Despite the hyped-up speculations of an apperance, flame-haired Anna Chapman, who was at the heart of this summer’s real-life US-Russian espionage drama, was a no-show at the premier.

“If [Chapman] came on stage it would be funny.” said Vorontzova’s sister Katya, 27, “Angelina looks more like a spy than Anna. They say that she’s a stunner but her facial features are very plain. Maybe this whole case was a promo for the movie. It’s all so strange – I don’t think the people will know the whole truth,”

“In our country they still only tell us half the truth,” chimed in Dasha, adding, “This is Angelina’s day.”

Jolie did not bring up the spy scandal on stage, and told reporters “you don’t want to focus on the negative behind this issue of the spy swap because I think that what is happening between our countries is wonderful these days, so many positive movements forward.”

Meanwhile, others in the audience favored their red-blood over Jolie for the part of a Russian spy.

“Of course Anna is better. She is younger. She’s Russian – her facial features are more dear to us,” said Dima Borishenko, 23, who lives in Moscow and works in PR. “She has a lot of offers, she should become an actress. I’d see her movie and it doesn’t have to be spy themed. I heard she got an offer from a porn studio – why not! She’s got all the goods for it.”

“I’m keeping an eye out for her! I’d be more interested to see Anna than Angelina Jolie,” he said.

Yet Anna Osokina, 16, who braved the heat to catch a glimpse of Jolie said Chapman should stick to what she knows best. “She should keep spying or work as a detective,” the Moscow 10th grader said.

[From The NY Daily News]

Well, it looks like Angelina had her Russian fans all in a tizzy, and it’s very interesting that people were talking about the Chapman case – a few years ago, I watched a PBS documentary on what the spy community and the larger disinformation campaigns were like under Vladimir Putin, and it’s really scary what he and his government got away with in this modern age, with information being at the touch of everyone’s fingertips. I don’t want to get too morose, but I doubt we – or the Russian people – will ever know what really happened with these spies.

By the way, Angelina has already left Moscow – she and the kids are now in Japan. There are some adorable photos of her and the older kids here.

Brangeloonies?!?!?! Ugh I hate that term. It makes Brad and Angelina fans sound nuts. People who like Brad and Angelina aren’t nuts by any means. They are fans. Fans and that is it.

Also Angelina would never invite that woman to anything. Thats ludacris. Its just something that wouldn’t happen. Angie my be interested by the spy story but I doubt she invited that chick to a movie.

I agree that Angelina looks stunning and red is a very rare red carpet choice for her. Her second to date to my knowledge.

  2. nanster says:

    Such a beautiful woman!

  3. hapygoleslie says:

    whats the point?

  4. Bite me says:

La Jolie looks radiant in red, it’s too bad she doesn’t wear color more often. The airport pix of her and the older children are really cute Shiloh looks a lot like her maternal grandpa

  5. Jello says:

It’s nice to see Angie looking so happy these day. Her smile is radiating, and in the pics at the airport the whole gang is beaming.

  6. lisa says:

They all really did look happy at the airport. there were pics of Madd and Pax out shopping in Moscow.

All the kids have gotten so big. I had forgotten that we have not seen them since Cancun.

    Cute family.

  7. Shay says:

All she has to do is walk the red carpet and all recent film premieres of other actresses are all in the past. She picked a great dress for it as well.

  8. Maritza says:

Red suits her so well, I wish she would wear bright colors more often. She looks fabulous!

  9. Chicoulina says:

Absolutely Stunning!!!Red suits her so well!Wow!!The most beautiful woman!!

  10. mslewis says:

Why would Ms.Chapman be invited to the movie premiere to take the spotlight off Angelina? Silly to even think about.

  11. RHONYC says:

the WORST shade of red for her. honestly. her stylist is usually on point. wtf? 🙁

  12. Electric says:

    Looks super gorgeous.

That last pic is so thin! Her weight does not look healthy.

  13. Feebee says:

She looked good in the red dress. The stuff about Anna Chapman is overplayed. I find it strange she was invited. Ms Chapman was overhyped by the US media to sensationalise the story. Salt on the other hand was not bad for a Jason Bourne retread. Enjoyed Jolie in the role and not a particular fan. She was better than I imagine first choice Tom Cruise would have been.

  14. lena says:

LOL that one pic she looks like she is going to eat that little girl, she looks nice.

  15. meme says:

Does she wear padding under her clothes? Salt sucked.

  16. émer says:

Wow she is gorgeous in that red dress! A bit too thin though.

  17. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Ha Salt was nothing, NOTHING like the Bourne films. The plot of both films have nothing to do with each other. I wonder why people keep saying that?

  18. kama says:

She looks like a vampire in that red dress… Maybe she will star in True Blood 🙂

  19. daisy424 says:

    Dazzling!

I think the term “Brangeloonies” is very well suited for certain people. Especially certain people that comment on this site. Some people come across “looney” like as if they know these two (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie)or something. Knowing wayyyy too much about their history (what has been perceived as their history that is) and freak out when any other opinion is written about those two that is anything other than obsessive, unrealistic (God/Godess-likeness) complimenting.

I read this site because it is funny and entertaining, not because it is truly any kind of concern to me about what is happening or what is being written about people I don’t know. Not sure if it is the same for others that visit here.

  21. purelife says:

wow.. lucky little girl… i would love to kiss or hug angie too

  22. purelife says:

i think salt will rake money worldwide. wait in Asia. People there are already crazy waiting for it.

  23. snowball says:

Wherever the radiant Angelina goes, the sound of feverish fapping follows…

  24. J says:

Uh no, people in Asia are not crazy about Brangelina like Americans. There are many negative news about them in newspapers everyday.

Everyone in Asia will go to see Inception, not Salt.

  25. Majosha says:

“Brangeloonies?!?!?! Ugh I hate that term. It makes Brad and Angelina fans sound nuts. People who like Brad and Angelina aren’t nuts by any means. They are fans. Fans and that is it.”

    This is just too easy.

  26. Anon says:

I think the stuff about Anna Chapman is poppycock, tabloid trash. Jolie looks good in red. Why no pictures showing all the Russian fans that turned out? That was quite a crowd for Angelina. Impressive. “Salt” is a good movie, I’ll buy the DVD too.
The kids are adorable, Pax is especially getting his own style now. Shiloh seems to be coming out of her boyish stage a little. All smiles at the airport with boyish antics, my “boys” are 17 months apart. Angie and Brad’s kids bring back the memories, I’m in the stage where it is too soon for Grand-babies (kids in or just out of college). Guilty pleasure seeing their kids in glimpses. Brad and Angie’s kids look healthy and happy. The twins are adorable, bet Grandpa and Grandma Pitt are lending a hand again.
Kids in reality shows are over-the-top now, working their summer vacation away. I’d rather see pics of real stars’ kids like the Pitts, Smiths, Aflecks, Sheryl Crow, etc. …enjoying life.

  27. Kim says:

Loved Salt!I hope there is a sequel, The dress is similar to the nude dress she wore to IB premiere in Cannes. Great pics of the kids at the airport esp Pax

  28. Jeannified says:

She looks gorgeous and vibrant, as always!

  29. CR says:

Hey Lisa (#20) I’m suuuuuuure youd just loooooooooooove it if this site was left free to the liars that love to spout crap about this woman, her man and family. But it aint gonna happen.

So while you believe that people giving their “opinions” about other (REAL) people’s lives, which are based on outright lies, are perfectly okay with you, dont get your panties all in a bunch when other posters, who have FACTS at their disposal, come here to dispel the lies and biitchslap some of you liars in the process.

This is the internet, baby, where nothing goes away. A lie left unchallenged becomes ‘fact’ for the unsuspecting. The true fans of the JPs will ALWAYS debunk these lies whenever and wherever we find them, so that information that counters the pervasive lies are also out there for those who, unlike you, have no personal agenda to serve the lies, but merely want factual information on which they can base their opinions.

Thats how the real world works, honey. Now suck it up. You want fries with that?

  30. anon says:

Fans are fans. Elvis had them and whether you liked him or not (and I did not 🙂 )33 years after his death, his fans make him one of the top celebs still making bank. Fans have a right to love their celebrities. I thought Elvis would go away after he died, but no, he is more famous and beloved than when he was alive! People loved him! 🙁 What I don’t get is the time and attention given to celebs you don’t like no matter who they are. That seems more loony to me 🙂 Some are so crazy they post stuff everywhere about the celebrity they dislike or feel negatively about. Whatever; keep posting, it is entertaining and it would be so boring if everyone that posted liked the celeb they are posting about.

  31. Cheyenne says:

She should wear bright colors much more often. She looks great in that red.

The kids look healthy and happy. Pax looks so cute with his missing tooth in front and Miss Thang (Empress Z) has a smile that can light up a room.

  32. anon says:

@CR seems like your panties are in bunch 🙂 If you don’t like them (AJ BP) fine, let lisa be a fan and believe what she wants, why do you care? You can say what you want; lisa, Love Angelina etc. can say what they want. I’ll take fries with that thank you 🙂 So entertaining!

  33. Morgs says:

CR. You just proved the Brangeloonie argument. You sound like a cracked nut.

  34. The Hamm is My Dream Man says:

Love Angelina: I haven’t seen Salt but the basic plot seems the same in that you have a spy agency going after one of their own for some unknown reason.

    CR=certifiable.

Brangeloonie is a great term for those people who are leaving comments talking about their children and how they are “coming into their own” and “having their own style” presenting “boyish antics”. It’s just so weird and creepy. Like people follow these children like they are their own or part of their family.

  35. JY says:

Uh no, people in Asia are not crazy about Brangelina like Americans. There are many negative news about them in newspapers everyday.

Everyone in Asia will go to see Inception, not Salt.
    —————————————-

    huh?
actually Angie has many fans in my country. she is the most popular hollywood star. I’m very excited about Salt. my friends too. can’t wait!

  36. Beth says:

I ignore it when the haters call me a brangeloonie. You can’t take it seriously when people call you a bunch of names just for liking Brad and/or Angelina since they go on to say they wish the entire family would die, they can’t wait for Brad and Angelina to breakup, the kids are mentally handicapped/ill, etc. I don’t know if it’s more amusing or sad that being a fan is psycho but hoping for the worst for complete strangers is fine.
Inviting the spy is absolutely false. The studio denied it would be a stupid move. It wouldn’t help Angelina or he movie to associate with a spy.

  37. Apostate says:

She indeed looks quite resplendent in red. As far as the movie itself,it was, surprisingly,a lot more entertaining than I’d expected-with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Liev Schreiber turning in strong supporting performances.

  38. juiceinla says:

You say the Russian Spies, they no show, but really- how do you know???

  39. Camille says:

She looks gorgeous in that dress, love that colour on her.

  40. My2Cents says:

My god she is breath taking.

Im a proud Brangeloonie. (who ever came up with that name needs to go back to Kindergarten I might add)

  41. LolaBella says:

She looks beautiful and she should definitely wear red more often.

  42. mojoman says:

@JY, are you kidding? I have lived in Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Jakarta etc and everybody, I MEAN everybody are crazy about this chick! and I am not an AJ fan. just my observation (oh dont get me started about Japanese fans!)

  43. Mairead says:

That is one hell of a dress!

  44. Freya says:

Who said Angelina is not popular in Asia? You must like to make up stories!

  45. LOVE ANGELINA says:

@The Hamm the Man is my dream, See that is why you have to actually go and see the movie. Salt’s plot is NOTHING like the Bourne films. Also her agency isn’t the only agency going after her. Thats the like the one and only similarity to the Bourne films. Look trust me, if you wanna have a good time and be thoroughly entertained go see it for self. Its an honest to God “what the hell is going on?” movie that comes together beautifully at the end. You will love it.
