Prince William ran to the Mail’s Richard Kay for a rebuttal of the Tatler debacle

The Duchess of Cambridge talks with wheel chair patients taking part in wheel chair basket ball duri...

Tatler absolutely blessed us with all of this fun royal drama this week. Maybe things really are getting back to normal, gossip-wise. As we discussed, Tatler’s “Catherine the Great” cover story was supposed to be a sugary Embiggening project, but it blew up in William and Kate’s faces and made them look lazy, entitled and weak. Kensington Palace issued a denial and Tatler clapped back saying that they stood by their reporting AND that KP knew about the story for months. In People Magazine’s coverage, a “royal source” said that while KP didn’t specify which parts of Tatler’s story were false, the source “tells PEOPLE there is no truth to Tatler’s claim that Kate feels overwhelmed by the heavier workload resulting from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s recent step down from royal life.” That IS oddly specific. It’s not “false” that Kate magically has a bigger workload post-Sussexit, it’s only false that Kate feels overwhelmed by the now unmanageable Zoom calls once a week. LMAO.

Meanwhile, I was waiting with bated breath to see all of the furious reactions from Kensington Palace. You know that William was stomping his feet and screaming at everybody for the past two days. And much like the Rose Hanbury debacle, I thought this would be a great opportunity for William to run off to see Richard Kay at the Daily Mail. And that’s exactly what happened. You can read the full piece here at the DM – trust that Kay got to the important stuff at the beginning, namely that no matter what, everything is still Meghan’s Fault.

How dare Middle-Class Will & Cathy be mocked by a snobbish magazine? “Suddenly they are the uneasy focus of a snobbish profile in society magazine Tatler, which touches not only on the sensitive issue of the alleged rift between Kate and sister-in-law Meghan, but also raises some frankly impertinent questions about the Duchess’s apparent ‘thinness’ and her Middleton family background.

The Meghan-tights story: “Had Kate intervened as the article suggests, say friends, it would have been not just because she knew that tights look neater but also as a mark of respect to the Queen. Certainly there have been previous reports of disagreements between the two duchesses over wedding day outfits, with one claim that Kate, who had not long given birth to Prince Louis, had been reduced to tears after an encounter with Meghan. Middleton family friends have always denied the tears story but have also acknowledged that the relationship between the two women has not been easy. All the same, they do not recognise Tatler’s assertion that the Duchess of Cambridge had ‘sought the opportunity to put Meghan in her place, reprimanding her for speaking imperiously to Kensington Palace staff’. According to insiders the ‘tights episode’ — as reported by Tatler — is ‘not quite right’.

Kay’s sources insist that Kate did try to help Meghan: Many believe this was the moment when a froideur descended between the two women, one determined to do things her way, regardless of the rulebook, the other finding her offer to help and be a guide firmly rejected. At the same time, the Duchess’s circle deny the claim from a friend that Kate ‘never pulled Meghan under her wing and said: “I’ll show you the ropes.” ’ As a close friend of the couple told me: ‘Help can only be provided if it is willingly accepted.’

The Cambridges are mad about the lazy stuff: What has upset the Cambridges, and upset them deeply, is the claim that Kate somehow resents the increase in duties that have come her way…. Aides are refusing to be drawn on this, but I understand that this assertion that she is workshy is utterly rejected and that the couple are angered at what they perceive to be a false and misleading picture. One figure says that the Duchess ‘is doing more, because she asked to do more’. A close friend tells me: ‘Yes, she is juggling a lot with three young children at home while contributing when she can to the national effort, but she is very conscious that there are many, many more people under far more pressure than she is.’ They particularly repudiate the idea that this makes the Duchess out of touch with the hardships so many households are facing.

Tricky about Carole/Diana: References to William’s relationship with her family will also hurt. A ‘country grandee’ is quoted as saying: ‘I’ve heard that Prince William is obsessed with Carole. She’s the mummy he always wanted.’ This, say friends, is absurd. And it is not the only reference to the Princess of Wales. The article also says: ‘Outwardly it seems that with years of scrutinising public pressure Kate has become perilously thin, just like — some point out — Princess Diana.’ But the Princess suffered from an eating disorder that for a while was a central and damaging feature in her life. For Kate, this is perhaps the most uncomfortable barb of all.

[From The Daily Mail]

Maybe I’ve just been starving for royal drama, but this piece was very ODD, right? While I feel William’s fingerprints throughout (and I’m sure William directed Kay to write this rebuttal), I really felt like Kay allowed some of Tatler’s criticisms to go unanswered, un-denied, just left out there. Especially the stuff about the Middletons – all Kay will really say is that Kate will find it “wounding” especially because “Tatler is read by the Duchess’s friends and lies around in the drawing rooms of the country houses she and William visit.” And how! And Kay’s piece ends on the note about an eating order too, without really rebutting that either. Very curious. And like many of Willileaks’ tantrums, I feel like this will only lead the Tatler debacle becoming an even bigger scandal.

  1. Talie says:

The author of the Tatler article pointed out that Kate has insulated herself with the aristocratic set and of course that is who reads and talks to Tatler. The problem is these friends she has chosen will clearly never accept her even if she does outrank them. In Meghan, she would’ve had a natural ally – it’s a pity she didn’t see the power they could’ve had together.

    • Eleonor says:

The aristo firm will never accept her she is “working class” as the Tatler article made very clear.
I don’t think she has isulated, but knowing they will refuse her, she keeps her distances because she can’t trust them.

    • OriginalLala says:

They could have totally been allies but instead Kate decided to let jealousy and envy take over and, well, we know the rest.

As much as I despise the BRF and the concept of royalty, I do feel for the female married-ins – they are treated like crap by the media. Kate may be alot of thing, but I guarantee William is worse.

      • Britt says:

Kate and William both are trash because they stood by and did nothing while members of their family were maligned, abused and threatened. They care about mental health and prejudice but didn’t stand up when it was happening in their own family.

      • Tessa says:

Kate is no innocent. She was complicit in snubbing Harry and Meghan and participated in the Commercial Jet PR.

    • Amy Too says:

I wonder if part of the reason why Kate and the Cambridges and the Middletons so gleefully tore down Meghan was because Kate was so happy to FINALLY have someone who ranked lower than her that she could lord her status over. Kate and the Midds were now in the position of the aristocrats that they envied so much. They were now the accepted, traditional, established members of the Royal Family social circle. And Meghan was the newcomer and outsider trying to make her way into the family.

So many of those hit pieces from KP were about Meghan not “knowing her place,” “acting above her rank,” not deferring to Will and Kate in everything she did. Because Meghan didn’t care. While Kate actually did/does see herself as “less than” the aristocrats, and sees her middle class family upbringing as an embarrassment, Meghan was confident in herself and her abilities. She was not embarrassed about where she came from and who she was. She did not automatically assume that Will and Kate, or anyone in the RF, were above her, and she did not feel like she needed to bow and scrape and debase herself, make herself smaller and smaller, in order to earn their acceptance.

      • Nic919 says:

Meghan didn’t care about being accepted by the toffs whereas Kate designed her entire life to be accepted by them. It probably drove her and Carole nuts that Meghan just did what she wanted in that regard.

      • notasugarhere says:

And that Meghan showed up, did the job beautifully, and showed up Kate’s pathetic efforts at ‘work’. They wanted someone Kate could belittle and control, not a fully-formed woman with her own mind and work ethic.

      • MsIam says:

@nic919 I think that cheesed Carole and Kate off more than anything. There is no pleasure in withholding something from someone who doesn’t want it. The fact that Meghan didn’t give a damn about turning herself into a faux-ristocrat and bowing and scraping at every turn must have burned them like fire.

      • TheOriginalMia says:

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, AmyToo. Meghan didn’t change who she was to please the Toffs or the BRF. She remains the same person who fell in love with Harry and didn’t feel a need to mold herself into a caricature of a royal consort. She was just herself: capable, efficient, loyal, intelligent and BLACK. That had to seriously cheese someone like Carole who had to claw her way up the social ladder.

      • Becks1 says:

I think this is a good point and probably very true. Think how excited sophomores in high school are because they are no longer the bottom of the pecking order. Kate was probably fantasizing about M trying to fit in on country hunts or whatever and instead Meghan was like, “meh, i’m going to guest edit Vogue.”

      • S808 says:

        Yup Amytoo, I agree 10000000%.

      • Gellformula says:

There is no pleasure in withholding something from someone who doesn’t want it.

        I am totally stealing this!

      • Lowrider says:

        Amy Too nailed it.

The institution wanted to break Meghan, beat her into submission. So many people want to see her bow to Kate and that says a lot.

Kate has tossed all her self-respect and dignity to fit into that class she idolizes. She in no way would ever be a true ally to Meghan.

      • February Pisces says:

Kate spent her whole life trying to be accepted into the aristocracy. She is ashamed of her middle class roots around them, yet uses it in the press to project a normal middle class family lifestyle. I think she thought things would change when she got married and and then had George, but it didn’t. They don’t respect her, cos William doesn’t respect her. They know he isn’t in love with her and there’s no point being nice to her. Meghan doesn’t give af about the aristocracy. I never saw her trying to be one of them. I think kate was hoping Meghan would be desperate to join their inner clique and to see her rejected, but nah. Meghan walking away from the RF is another blow to Kate’s ego, because being royal means so much to her, because she’s nothing without it, where as Meghan doesn’t need her title.

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Well said, Amy: Kate is the embodiment of Imposter Syndrome.

      • morrigan01 says:

The Aristos, Kate, William and the RR tried desperately to make is seemed like Meghan cared about that whole class set/thing. Because THEY all care deeply about it. It’s a main access of how their insular world turns.

Race and xenophobia were a definite factor in how Meghan was treated, but I always knew/saw that Meghan’s clear indifference wrt that whole aristo class structure was also a part of why she was being treated the way she was. She never looked at any of those people as if they were better than her simply because of how they were born vs how she was. To do so is a foreign concept to a majority of Americans, but especially African Americans.

They wanted her to show deference, to try and change her voice/accent like Kate did, to take the abuse they dished out because she – in their minds – deserved it for, in their eyes, being a “climber” and therefore – in their minds – should know that such abuse is how it is if you want to be a part of their set and weren’t born on the same “level” as them. They may let you “in” but they will NEVER let you forget where you came/come from. And because of that you are still “lesser” than them.

And Meghan looked at those people, and said “yeah, uh, no” and never tried to change herself to get in with them. Because she never viewed being a part of their set as the be-all-end-all goal of her life, unlike Kate and her family. She didn’t view *Kate* as being being “better” than her simply because she married the older brother and would be Queen one day. Meghan was forever confidence in herself, her ability and never embarrassed about who she was or where she came from.

And, even more importantly, HARRY was never embarrassed by Meghan, or where she came from. He was always proud of her, still looked at her with love and wonder that she was actually *his* AND always had her back. He *respects* her. Something William clearly doesn’t when it comes to his own wife.

It’s why, even now, they all still can’t believe that not only did Meghan leave – and not with her tail between her legs but still secure in who she is and what she’s about – but that HARRY WENT WITH HER. (And was really the one who led HER away from it all as well). That he, who was BORN in that world, WALKED AWAY FROM IT. Because he didn’t view being a part of it as greater than his wife and child and his love for them. They will *never* be able to wrap their insular minded worldview heads around that.

      • Guest with Cat says:

        Well said.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

I have worked with aristo’s and in my experience they are for the most part down to earth normal people – its true they have little time for those who pretend to be something they are not. I come from a working class background and they treated me like an equal even thou they were senior to me in the organisation.

      • A says:

The Tatler article also confirmed this for me when it talked about how Kate lectured Meghan on speaking too “imperiously” to the KP staff and “put her in her place.” It alluded to the whole attitude with which Kate approached her role as Meghan’s senior SIL in this situation. She was not interested in helping Meghan out, really. She was interested in finally being able to lord her status and rank over someone else for a change and act like a dick in the same way that people have acted towards her in the past.

I have no doubt that Kate and the Midds saw the othering of Meghan as a signal that they’ve finally been “accepted” within the inner ranks of the aristocracy, and they for sure attempted to capitalize on that by making Meghan the sacrificial lamb and throwing her to the wolves so that they could get with the in-crowd. I said this yesterday, so I’ll say it again–you reap what you sow.

    • morrigan01 says:

I don’t know if I’d say Kate insulated herself with the aristo set, but she (and her mom and sister) are such desperate wannabes that they continue to try everything and anything to get themselves accepted by the aristo set – which included helping along the attacks on Meghan, who that set also clearly hated for not just being of a “lower” class but being black-biracial and American as well.

I’m sure the Middletons thought that, with Meghan there to direct so much of the ire at, that would unite them with the aristos they so desperately wanted to be a part of. Not being smart enough to realise that, as far as the aristos went, the whole thing was just an “enemy of my enemy is my friend” thing. However, everyone – from the Middletons to the aristos – were too short sighted to realise that Meghan AND Harry were never going to put up with that kind of stuff and treatment forever, and so didn’t see them chucking deuces and walking away coming.

And so, with Meghan no longer there, Kate and her clan have likely only just begun to realise they never were fully embraced by the aristos, no matter how much they helped to smear Meghan. They are still looked down on by that set. But because getting IN with that set has been their – especially Carole’s – main priority for DECADES, they never had the smarts to see that Meghan would have made a fantastic ally when having to navigate that world, and the two of them together could have built their OWN circle of power and influence – quite likely a *global* one at that.

But, you know. Racism and xenophobia tends to make people stupid. And Kate and her family could never see past that insular British Aristo world they are such desperate wannabes to get into. The Middletons, just like the set they so desperately want to be a part of, are very provincial minded and focused – unlike Meghan, who’s more worldly and globally focused minded.

  2. Aurora says:

So Karen Middleton really tried it at Meghan’s wedding rehearsal? I think suggesting tights out of protocol was supposed to make Kate look dutiful but instead she comes across as an obnoxious busy body trying to dictate someone else’s wedding.

    • February Pisces says:

Exactly, the original Tatler piece was suppose to do that, and the idea of kate putting Meghan in her place was suppose to make her look like some sort of heroine standing up to ‘mean meghan’. Only Kate has absolutely no right to tell Meghan how to have her wedding, especially as she hardly knew her. It sounds like Kate was aggressively insistent. Kay only made it look worse by adding more fuel to the story with Kate ‘trying to respect the queen’ . Absolutely gaslighting in the hopes everyone trashes Meghan for ‘disrespecting’ the poor old queen, whilst Kate looks like a hero. And I just had a look at the wedding pics, and guess who ISN”T wearing tights? Kate!

      • Silas says:

If the Queen needs a toddler to put on tights as a sign of respect to her, then the Queen is a nightmare.

Or Kate is a Karen and she’s hiding behind pretending to be concerned about respecting the Queen when really it’s about throwing her weight around. It would have been better to pretend it was about sweaty feet but I think the girls were probably wearing no show socks or the shoes were specially made seeing as it’s Givenchy.

      • Ali says:

I’m more angry that Kate thought she could dictate what the bridesmaids could wear.

Outside of her two kids, the majority are children of Meghan’s friends. Why would Meghan make kids she loves uncomfortable?

Just to pretend to respect the queen?

When the queens granddaughter Zara didnt have her bridesmaids wear tights?

      • Ginger says:

I agree with you Silas. I think Kate was trying to pull rank and make it seem like she knew everything about protocol. I’m glad Meghan stood up to her and did what was best for the kids. Zara’s bridesmaids didn’t wear tights and their dresses were shorter.
Meghan had a lot to deal with regarding her father, I hate that she had to deal with Kate as well.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

Both Cain and Unable have previous for pulling rank in the family – hell Kate used to pull rank when she was still his beck and call girl. She milked that association for all it was worth and then some – free clothes, super discounted Audi’s etc…

      • TeamAwesome says:

I mean, I think she’s wearing those super sheer hose she always wears.

      • Natters5 says:

I was in London the day they married and it was unseasonably hot outside. I remember this because I thought how lucky there were to have such good weather for a wedding in May in England which is usually cool and damp around that time. So I too would have insisted that the girls go without tights for their comfort.

      • Laurie says:

I’m just laughing imagining the Queen, like: “Naw, Karen. Do NOT drag me into this mess. I’m not out here telling 3-year-olds to wear tights on a hot day. That’s ALL you.”

    • Maevo says:

Yes! This is so hilarious to me! Kate really thinks it’s important and makes her look good to show she was upholding protocol but it’s just silly! She was really trying to push Meghan to make little kids wear tights?? That was the big fight?! No wonder Meghan was done this BS and these ridiculous people.

    • S808 says:

Kate looks silly harping on tights when it’s not her wedding. Protocol isn’t even a good excuse imo. If it was a big deal I’m sure Meghan’s BLOOD ROYAL FIANCÉ would’ve pointed it out to her. Her wearing that off white dress AND NOT WEARING TIGHTS was passive aggressive as hell. The article goes on to talk about Meghan not accepting Kate’s advice and— advice about what? Charity? Meghan’s has been doing longer than Kate has. Royal protocol? Meghan has a blood royal husband she can turn to. She didn’t need advice from Kate— about anything. And the “advice” was probably Kate trying to pull rank to make herself feel better. It’s the only thing she truly had over Meghan.

      • Nic919 says:

Considering Kate flashed how many times during official engagements because she was too careless to wear tights herself, she needs to calm down about what 3 year olds were going to wear. It’s not like they were going to do gymnastics down the church aisle.

      • Feeshalori says:

Given that Charlotte can do cartwheels, maybe Kate got all Momzilla because she was afraid she would bust out a few down the aisle and display her bloomers. Hence the need to wear tights.😆

      • Seraphina says:

NIC919, ❤️ Your comment because it’s so damn true!

      • Chica says:

Or not just that but offering advice in a way that is transparent and meant to not only pull rank, but lead Meghan astray. I bet Meghan knew she was a fake bitch she could never trust. Kate isn’t a good actor among genuine ppl,—if among anyone, perhaps the Toffs. You can smell the bullshit on her from pictures and videos. I’m sure her in-person conversations are even more illuminating.

    • bluemoonhorse says:

Pretty much confirms to me that Kate wore something that would photograph white for a reason. No mistake there.

  3. Britt says:

Something is going on. I don’t know if this is a distraction for Prince Andrew Netflix mess, which I’m leaning towards but this sudden negativity towards Kate is coming back, why? Kate has either pissed off someone in The Aristo/Tatler circles or the media wants their money to replace the millions they have lost and will continue to lose now that they firmly bet on the wrong horse and pushed the actual stars of that family away. I don’t know if Tatler and the tabloids are pissed at the Cambridges because Meghan was their chance to be even richer and they know Kate is no comparison. But something is really strange here and Kate seems to be the next target, because that article wasn’t glowy and had sarcasm in spades. They either know Harry and Meghan are done and are never coming back and are mad that they’re stuck with this bland, boring and uninteresting family. There hasn’t been that many negative articles about the Sussexes recently either. Hmm 🤔

    • Als Em says:

As another reader said yesterday, Kate’s friends are all out of touch and they were given the go ahead to talk to Tatler and they were too dumb to have the foresight on how the general public will view what they say.

      • Britt says:

Maybe. Unless all her friends are aristocrats, surely they would’ve known that this goes against the “Queens Mantra”. The royals and aristocracy do seem too insulated though.

    • ABritGuest says:

Britt I’ve seen an interesting theory that Kate is being set up to take the fall for Sussexit. Theory is that aristos are mad that actual blood princes (Harry& Archie) have been run out of the country with alleged aid of the commoner Middletons.

So whilst Tatler claims William is still angry about Sussexit, we’ve seen articles that William& Harry are back in touch, rift is healing whereas had whole slew of articles that Kate misses Harry(but not Meghan) is feeling overburdened etc. Note Tatler suggests Meghan’s departure may be viewed as an opportunity for Kate. Kay’s article says that friction started at royal forum& suggests Meghan’s confidence perturbed Kate. So makes focus of apparent rift between the couples about the women.

So some think that if Harry doesn’t return after the year end review- the media may really come for Kate’s neck as William will never get the blame for it. Suggestion is Kate played herself with cold display at Commonwealth service as easier to make her the main fall person.

      • Harper says:

This would be the whopper of the story if proof came out that Carole and Kate were behind much of the Meghan slander. Then it would be true that a social-climbing snob of a commoner drove a Prince of England, his wife and their royal son out of his country to America just so her commoner daughter would look good. If the tabs wanted a new target, who would feel bad about it being Carole?

      • Fabuleuse15 says:

“Theory is that aristos are mad that actual blood princes (Harry& Archie) have been run out of the country with alleged aid of the commoner Middletons.”

Hmm, I think you might be on to something. Here’s a thought: When Kate dared to treat Harry, a blood prince, with contempt at the CW service, I can imagine that didn’t sit well with the aristos.

I think it was Kaiser who commented that Kate must feel very confident in her position to do something like that in public. Well, that’s probably what the aristos thought too. So, they decided Kate needed to be put firmly in her place and they quite possibly wanted revenge for Harry.

      • KellyRyan says:

Interesting but not surprising. The political power play has existed for centuries. My family left England in 1632 during The Great Migration for political and social reasons. I have a family member who has completed extensive work on our family. My family shows a history of genetic ties to the royal family. Guess who doesn’t care, none of us. 🙂 Wills has a history of temper tantrums, would it surprise anyone when Chuckie dies, Will escapes.

      • bluemoonhorse says:

JMO but Kate will take the fall when the lawsuit with the newspaper reveals that it was her staff that leaked and dumped on Meghan. That’s why that long term staffer was suddenly let go. Gotta line up the scapegoats.

      • Digital Unicorn says:

The Sussex’s complained several times that there were leaks coming from within the RF – since Sussexit broke its been strongly hinted at that Kate and Pippa were leaking to the press and H&M had receipts via the lawsuit. There are reasons why certain members of the family were sh!tting bricks over the lawsuit with the Cambridges reportedly being the biggest voices demanding that Harry drop the suit.

The Commonwealth Service showed that there is a serious issue between the brothers that go way beyond William cautioning Harry against rushing into marrying Meghan. Whatever that issue is, Kate and her family have been playing it to suit their own agenda – as they always do.

    • Becks1 says:

Kate’s friends being out of touch doesn’t explain the comments about Carole being a snob, etc.

I like the theories tossed about yesterday that this was meant as a warning shot to Kate – “you are not one of us. We didn’t accept Meghan, but that doesn’t mean we accept you.” someone yesterday specifically pointed out that given the Embiggening articles of the past two years – someone at Tatler and in the aristocracy may have felt it was time to knock Kate down a few pegs. “yes you have a posh accent, but you bought it.”

      • Sofia says:

I reckon the aristos came knocking on Dennen’s door and said “look we’re not a fan of this friendship you have with Kate” and so he was basically “forced” to chose between Kate or the aristos, who are not only the subjects of his magazine but also the writers and main readership (the group basically keeping it alive). Dennen chose the aristos.

Who probably then used the “Catherine the Great” feature sort of knock Kate down a few pegs. Like “Yes you’re bland, boring and don’t rock the boat which is a good thing because it means you won’t go blabbing our business” but also “we still don’t like you, your mother or your sister. We haven’t forgotten anything and we certainly won’t be forgiving anything (hence the “glamourous” Rose and her “apparent” closeness with William) So stay in your lane.”

        Sort of a warning shot.

      • Ainsley7 says:

@ Sofia, Dennen hasn’t been friends with Kate since they were at St. Andrews and they were never that close. He has no loyalties to her. People only think he does because of an article about Meghan. Which wasn’t even as much of a hit piece as this one.

      • Sofia says:

@Ainsley: Dennen had an IG post where he said that his mother was having lunch with Kate. So clearly there is an element of friendship if Kate is having lunch with his mother.

      • ABritGuest says:

Also funny how Kay put the boot into Pasternak- wonder if there’s history there as he was a Diana mouthpiece& Pasternak did that book with Hewitt which led to the paternity rumours about Harry to this day.

Re Tatler’s megalomania hitpiece on Meghan if I remember right that was also sneering about her not fitting in but also had sources claiming Charles thought Harry was p-whipped, family hates her& included those troll suggestions about loose wedding dress because she was pregnant on her wedding day. It came out when she was like 8 months pregnant so timing of that hit piece alone was pretty cruel.

    • Jen says:

I think it might not be that big – it could be a distraction or it could just be that they were giving Kate glowing coverage as a way to drag the Sussexes. Now that they can’t do that much, they have to do something for clicks. Enter a passive aggressive article about Kate that will get both her defenders and those who dislike her talking.

      • Sofia says:

I mean KP clearly think it’s “big” because they were issuing denials at 10pm (they normally don’t issue denials at night), which then prompted Tatler to basically call KP out for lying and the Cambridges went to Richard Kay in order to get the article they really wanted – praise for the Cambridges with snark for the Sussexes.

So yes, someone in KP does think it’s “big” or they would have issued a denial and moved on. They haven’t.

    • Ainsley7 says:

It could be a distraction for Andrew, Tatler has always been very supportive of Beatrice and Eugenie. It’s also pretty much business as usual though. No one would have been surprised by this article if Meghan hadn’t come along. The new members often get bad press in the early days. Meghan’s was obviously much worse than the usual. While they give some specific details that weren’t known, all the Middleton stuff, and boring, lazy, snobby Kate stuff has been around forever.

    • Some chick says:

      Rose Who?
Also, that top pic is EVERYTHING EVERYTHING EVERYTHING!!!

    • Mumbles says:

If the aristos are coming for Kate it isn’t out of some loyalty to the Royal Family. The relationship between the old landed gentry and the RF is not as cozy as you’d imagine. Hell, they spent centuries trying to overthrow each other. More recently the old aristo families sort of look askance at the RF for being German arrivistes. (In aristo time, 200 years is a blink of an eye).

Which is not to say the aristos aren’t behind this. Could just be they don’t like the Middletons. They certainly didn’t when she was dating William.

      • notasugarhere says:

If Carole, Kate, and Pippa hadn’t been so blatant in their social climbing, aristocrats might not have disliked them so much. Carole calling up aristos telling them to make their daughters befriend Kate. Pippa writing letters of introduction to aristocrats at school to try get in their set. If the Midds hadn’t tried so hard to ape the gentry, they wouldn’t be so disliked.

      • Mumbles says:

Lol I had never heard those stories but I was always amazed at how two girls from the same family managed to befriend high-level aristos at their respective universities (William at St Andrews for Kate, the Percy heir at Edinburgh for Pippa).

      • notasugarhere says:

Rather they were able to latch on to a handful of lower level ones with access. See how Kate has no real friends, only people who got her into William’s circle and remain loyal to him. And arito mothers warning their sons off of Pippa, who had to settle for a bought title and Moderately Wealthy James (TM), his reality show brother, and his criminal father.

    • Lowrider says:

Nothing is going on, really. Tatler needs to sell copies and this brouhaha will most likely move sales. So win for them. Nothing new was said about Kate that hasn’t been said before. The only difference here was William came off looking like a paranoid, mummy obsessed dimwit.

  4. BabsORIG says:

😂😂😂😂 I’m having a lot of fun watching this train wreck and of course William and his minions squirming is cherry top. Karma, I love you.😘😘😘

    • Love says:

Dick’s article seems to be littered with quotes from the CEO’s friends, but I thought they don’t give interviews?

So are they reliable now? Just, you know, asking for a friend.

      • Becks1 says:

RIGHT?? I thought her friends would NEVER run to the press and talk. So, who are these quotes from? And if they are from her friends, then why shouldn’t I believe other “friends” went to Tatler?

      • Jen says:

It’s her very special friend, Marol Kiddleton.

      • notasugarhere says:

Yes, her very special friends Carole and Pippa. There aren’t any others that are hers vs. William’s.

  5. Eleonor says:

    This is fun!
I was missing a bit of Royal drama.
And Willnot sense of pr is tragique.

  6. fishface says:

Prince Pursed Lips displeased at the impertinence…..

  7. Mignionette says:

Karen and Kevin Cambridge really showed themselves up last night with that Richard Kay article. How hugely embarassing. Who ever is managing thier PR must hate them as much as the guys and dolls at Tatler.

But worst of all was the speed with which they reacted to one article for Kate whilst allowing a three year smear campaign against Meghan. It’s patently obvious now that the BRF played nice in public but likely terrorised that poor girl behind closed doors.

This will bite them in the ass, especially with the UK BAME community who might not wish to be involved with BRF endeavours going forward.

    • Liz version 700 says:

Karen and Kevin are the perfect names so so Social climber perfect 🙂

  8. Paperclip says:

It never ceases to amaze me that while it was just FINE to rake M over the coals DAILY and HORRIFICALLY with outright lies and racist dog whistles, something like this – which is tame not just in comparison but in REALITY – simply CANNOT be countenanced and must be ADDRESSED immediately. Ugh…I just can’t with these idiots.

    • Natters5 says:

I was reading the comments on Richard Kay’s article at the DM and the villagers were coming for Meghan with pitchforks in hand blaming everything in the article and what was wrong in England on Meghan. It was hysterical literally and figuratively.

  9. Yoyo says:

I read on Twitter that Karen is on the same diet as the Olsen twins.
Well the bridesmaids wore socks, so that settles one argument, Zara’s bridesmaids did not wear tights, so there goes protocol.
Now they’re trying to spin it as Meghan rejected Karen’s help, what she was go to help her with? how to keep her dress from blowing up and showing your arse, it took her more than 10 exposures to fix that problem.
Meghan went through the ringer for three years and not one of those inbreds supported her and poor Karen could not handle a few hours.
Richard Kay is toying with the Karen and Kevin.

    • Sofia says:

I’ve said it yesterday but if the whole thing really was Kate being concerned about “protocol” (and not because she wants to control another woman’s wedding) then she should have gone to the Lizzie and Chuck and said “Meghan isn’t following traditions and I’ve tried talking to her and she isn’t listening. Could one of you have a chat?” and then let Lizzie and Chuck decide if tights at a wedding is a massive issue. If it is I’m sure they would have explained it to Meghan and tights would have been worn. If they didn’t think it was a big deal, they would have just shrugged it off and said “okay.”

      • GuestWho says:

It wasn’t about protocol. Kate wasn’t even wearing hosiery at the wedding. This was Unable being a control freak and then a crybaby when she didn’t get her way. This all just paints her as an over-dramatic SIL from hell.

Imagine it from Meghans perspective at the time – her father is starting to jerk her around, the other daughter is rearing her ugly head, her drunken loser brother is writing public letters to try to stop the wedding and this Karen is crying over tiny children in tights.

      • Tessa says:

I pity Kate’s future daughters in law. She will be the mother in law from hell. Also CHarlotte’s future husband will probably get bad treatment from her.

      • kacy says:

@Tessa Depends on who he is. If he’s a significant person, she’ll fawn over a son-in-law like Carole does.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

As someone up thread said this sounds like Kate tried to pull rank to insert herself into someone else’s wedding and she got slapped down which explains the snide ‘crying Kate’ stories.

  10. GR says:

On one of your earlier stories on this topic, there was a comment which said that Tatler was deliberately being shady, and I think that’s correct.

  11. RoyalBlue says:

Poor Willnot had to hit pause on his hunting grouse or whatever the hell he is doing out there, to run to his favorite mouthpiece to fight fires. What on earth happened to never complain, never explain?

Definitely grabbing headlines away from the Epstein/Andrew latest, so there is that.

    • BayTampaBay says:

I can not believe that Bill Cambridge has yet to figure out that Richard Kay is not really a friend nor is he a good mouthpiece for him.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

It’s not the 12th of August yet. William is still on gardening leave…

  12. Priscila Bezerra-Fischer says:

KP will continue to blame Meghan, further the narrative that Catherine is just ” following the protocol, that she is a very hands-on mother of three who works full time and should get a rest, that Willie is a normal guy who is worried about his frail brother and keep telling Britain how lucky they are for having such level headed, dependable, stable couple as their next-next King and Queen.

That is what they will do because they cannot do the other thing, which is taking a piece of humble pie, changing their ways, repairing the relationship with Harry and Meghan, and start increasing their workload and stopping leaking.

The problem is that, with Mehan and Harry not there to provide them with imaginary new bits of protocol breaking and villanesque plans to take over, the regurgitation of this old tale has stopped pleasing the masses. People are able to see the cracks on the wall- no matter how many hands of new paint you use, the thing eventually goes away and you still can see the crack.

About the Tatler specifically, I think it is simpler than a conspiracy by any parties. They went to do a fluffy piece, followed the directives by letting KP know they were doing, KP gave their okay and so they went digging, and digging and digging and found out more than they have bargained for. Those pieces are designed to have a certain number of pages, pictures and overall tone. The journalist hit the road and the quotes she kept getting were painting a terrible picture and she still had to deliver a stroy, so Tattler read the room and decided to be the first ones…

Remember, the world changed in a couple of months. Stupid men like Piers Morgan are admitting he went too far with Meghan…there is a book coming out, no leaks and there is just enough interest for school runs and not that much sympathy for the sad tale of a rich woman apparently incapable of juggling raising three children in a big house, with the help of a hired, full time staff, and hold what amounts to be a part time job with some semblance of dignity.

I think this article might set the new bar if Willie does not do some drastic, which I am sure he is doing right now.

meanwhile, Pedo Prince smiles in relief…

    • Aria says:

Where did piers morgan said he went too far with Meghan??

      • Britt says:

He said it in a Sunday Times article. Problem is that he obviously wants to go to America and attacking a biracial American duchess like he has supposedly didn’t get him any support in that market. Some even speculate that when people realized that Meghan and Harry were rubbing shoulders and collaborating with very powerful people who can make his life hell especially in America he backed off. Whatever the motive, it’s not a good one.

      • BayTampaBay says:

        “very powerful people”

The same very powerful people in the entertainment business that Piers Morgan would love to hang with and would greatly appreciate receiving their generosity in aiding and abetting the career he wants in the USA.

      • morrigan01 says:

@BayTampaBay apparently, that show he does, Good Morning Britain, the whole reason they flew all the way out to LA to hold up in the lobby of the Beverly Hills Hotel on Oscar Night was because Morgan actually believe the rumor that Harry and Meghan would be there to present an award. But they didn’t, and the only celebs he could get for that post-Oscar show were a bunch of C-list people, none of the A-listers who were actually AT the Oscars that night.

Morgan is dreaming if he thinks he has any chance of breaking into America again. We in the US rejected him once before, before Meghan and Harry were even a thing. *Both* side of the political aisle rejected him in fact, which is kind of an amazing feat, given the political polarization of the country. But *nobody* here liked the smug British guy trying to tell Americans what to do. And his constant attacks on Meghan are well documented at this point, adding to that dislike. (Dude got dragged all over US Twitter – especially by us native Californians – for actually trying to *defend* that “Straight Outta Compton” headline about her.)

    • Yoyo says:

Randy Andy don’t have much to smile about, the author of a book on RA was on Reelz last night, talking about entitled Andy and his always broke wife(ex).
He is just not a good liar.

    • NCDancer says:

I think you are exactly right. I think it was intended to be fluffer and KP was on board. But the story took a turn and they followed. The Tatler still pulled its punches – even the most unflattering points are framed with “good old dull-as-dishwater Catherine – just what the monarchy needs.” But KP was looking for something shinier and brighter and didn’t get it. All of this is a PR failure – they picked the wrong outlet to get it. The landed gentry protect their own and the Duchess despite her title will never be one of them.

    • Lowrider says:

Piers served his purpose. He does not feel bad or regret terrorizing Meghan.

    • A says:

The thing is, even the whole blame Meghan gambit is starting to wear awfully thin if the Tatler piece and Richard Kay’s article are any indication. The only thing left to the people who are invested in believing that Meghan is behind all of this are basically conspiracy theories. The Tatler piece tried to make Kate seem like a hero for sticking up to mean Meghan who was bullying the staff and refusing to follow the protocol and determined to make the Queen sad by not covering up the legs of children in an appropriate fashion. It backfired and made Kate look like a snobby, petty bitch for trying to put Meghan “in her place.” The Richard Kay article says that Meghan and Kate had a rift when Kate saw how confident Meghan was in public speaking and tries to make this an example of how Meghan is too selfish and determined to disregard the rules and protocol and do things her way. But it had the end effect of making Kate look jealous and insecure of Meghan and offered a good reason as to why Meghan rejected Kate’s offer of help.

I suspect that KP is eventually going to peter off the Meghan blaming. But given that they’re just really bad at all of this, it wouldn’t surprise me if they keep at it until William becomes King. They’ll probably find new reasons to blame Meghan for everything if they can.

  13. Florence says:

Aww. I hope they’re trembling at how much dirt is going to be revealed. Cry more, Karen and Willy Middlebum.

  14. ST says:

The tights being about the Queen would be more believable if Kate didn’t insist on dressing her kids in historical cosplay.

    • Tessa says:

Charlotte was dressed up as a Victorian child to bring food to a neighbor.

      • Natters5 says:

I’m sure it wasn’t Charlotte’s idea to go distribute food to the needy. Especially dressed like an American Doll figure.

  15. Seraphina says:

While Kate has a middle class background (from her parents) she never has experienced nor ever will life as we working mothers do. It is insulting to me, the bold statementS that she is juggling three kids, who are they kidding. They have staff and nannies. And it must suck for Kate to be rejected not only by the aristocracy (she fought so hard to be a part of) as well as by many middle class – the label she has been branded in complete ridicule. She and her mother made this bed. Let them both lay on it.

    • Becks1 says:

That’s a good point. Right now she doesn’t fit in with the aristos, and she doesn’t fit in with “normal” working moms – the group she does fit in with, sort of upper middle class/new money, she doesn’t really WANT to fit in with, or so it seems. KP keeps trying to shove her into these groups that aren’t where she “fits.”

    • Tessa says:

I find Kate patronizing when she talks about “taking care of the children.” She is super privileged and thinks 3 hours a week on a royal duty is full time.

    • notasugarhere says:

I don’t think Kate wants to ‘fit in’ anywhere. She wants everyone to automatically bow-and-scrape to her, always defer to her, consider her the Queen Bee above them all.

      • Seraphina says:

@NAS, Deep down I don’t want to think she can be so shallow and cold hearted as that. I don’t know her and have never met her, I can only speculate. But, doesn’t everyone want a sense of belonging? To fit in with a group? And as I wrote this, maybe she is the way you say because she truly never fit in with any group. It must really suck to go to social functions and know they may be jeering at you, not have much respect for you or only act friendly because they want to be associated with the name you carry. Not for you, but for the name. I can see why she holds on to that name/title for dear life, it’s all she has.

      • notasugarhere says:

She has chosen to do anything she can, put up with all the cheating, because she wants to be Queen Bee. She came up against that when the TT’s sided with Rose over her. She might care less about William cheating, because she’s going on 20 years of putting up with it, but she was insanely jealous of Rose’s position in society in Norfolk. People like Rose, they don’t like Kate.

Kate chose to bully Beatrice because she wanted to be the top dog. She chose to bully and leak against Meghan because she was scared and jealous of Meghan. She’s chosen to mistreat and overwork staff, some of whom have leaked about it. She’s chosen to be steely-eyed, bullying, and determined to get the title at all costs. Her choices.

The Midds have always wanted to be something they aren’t. If they had spent the past 20 years living their lives and not chasing after the gentry, they wouldn’t be so disliked.

      • MsIam says:

@Seraphina, Kate has Pippa and Mummy. That’s her Girl Squad so she’s good. All she wants from others is for them to stand in awe and kiss her ring. The fact that no one is cooperating with that must really chap her buns.

      • BayTampaBay says:

To me it really is a tragedy that Cathy was unable to form a relationship with either Meghan nor Rose. If one cannot form a relationship with the outsider (The Yank) nor the insider (The Turnip Toff), then where does that leave one. I am beginning to think that Cathy may have problems we are not aware of that go deeper than being lazy and craving a wealthy SAHM lifestyle.

      • Seraphina says:

@Bay, YES. Exactly this. She fits in no where. WHY???? That is the question. And the Middleton Clan doesn’t count.

      • Ginger says:

I agree Bay. I don’t think Kate has any real friends.

      • RoyalBlue says:

@bay and that has been the speculation for a while, that catty has problems making and keeping friends. she will one day be elevated to a position requiring diplomatic soft skills and continue fostering good relationships between countries. and i fear she will indeed fall short. imagine her insecurity at maxima outshining her and she in turn being bitchy about it. we know she can’t hide her feelings.

      • Nic919 says:

We have already seen Kate blow off Letizia, someone who outranks her so it’s unlikely she will be any good at dealing with people unless they fawn over her. Notice how she never stops people from curtseying to her but Meghan does? It’s because Kate likes it. No one should be getting a curtsey or bow and if so, it should just be the actual monarch.
She won’t ever get better. It’s too late at this point. She will simply get better PR to cover for her poor skills.

      • Anne Austin says:

I agree with Seraphina that I hate to think of her that cold and calculating. I think that’s Carole. Kate had problems in her first boarding school (not Marlborough) with a group of girls ganging up on her and ostracizing her. It got so bad that she had the leave the school. She was young and I think it set up a lifelong mistrust of other women. She’s sporty & has a brother and just fit in better with guys. She’s a guys girl and as we all know those types, they just don’t understand other girls and how to connect and build up and not compete. Also, the article nailed it when it said there is something truly stoic about her. I think she has less emotional needs than most and gets stress out by exercise & physical vs connecting and talking.

      • Tessa says:

Her being bullied at school does note excuse her. IMO Kate is I think cold and calculating. She participated with William to slam Harry and Meghan, that PR stunt with commercial jets is super cold and calculating. She was nasty to women and she did not have to be, she would glare at women who got near William and her treatment of Meghan to me is inexcusable.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate a guy’s girl? Kate doesn’t have male friends either. She flirts with any man who will pay her attention, given how William treats her, but she has never been a ‘guy’s girl’.

She was not bullied at school, that was all lies for sympathy. Not only did the school come out against the lies? The lies were about girls putting feces in Kate’s bed. Kate was a day student.

The Midds chose to send Pippa to the same school, Downe House. Would you do that if your poor eldest was bullied there? Of course not. It was all a sympathy ploy at 1) trying to get in with aristocrats and 2) facilitated the transfer to Marlborough in the pursuit of William.

  16. Harper says:

The best part of the Richard Kay article is how he says the quick response from KP “was partly to prevent some of the more fanciful allegations being repeated” and then Kay goes on to repeat all of them in his article.

And has anyone else noticed that in all the photos of the little tight-less girls at Meghan’s wedding, Kate is standing right there, also with no tights on? What of the protocol?

    • Becks1 says:

      YES. It was so shady.

    • taylor says:

i noticed that she wasn’t wearing tights too! it would really be something if the story is true and then she proceeded to not follow her own overbearing advice.

    • ABritGuest says:

Yes didn’t look like to me she was wearing tights at the wedding herself& Charlotte has definitely been at events with bare legs so the whole thing is trivial& bizarre. As Becks said a few days ago they were better off just blaming emotions running high on Kate being post partum.

It’s ironic in the Tatler article Kate is lauded as unflappable & stoic for enduring past press digs apparently without complaint. Yet one article with shade (most of which has been said previously) after years of unadulterated praise (more than William) & KP are issuing multiple statements. But it’s said Meghan ‘can’t handle criticism‘ when she’s had to sit silently after being accused of fuelling drought& murder for avocado toast& her project is connected to terrorism.

      • Tessa says:

If Harry went to a reporter the way William did he’s be trashed for weeks and then Meghan would be accused of ‘forcing him’ to do it.

    • MsIam says:

Kay really seemed to be enjoying himself repeating those things, lol. I think this article is just as shady as the Tatler one in its own way. It seems like the gloves are off now and the Royal Rota has a taste for blood. I imagine Richard Kay at his desk sayIng “Who me?” while sticking pins in his collection of Kate and Carole dolls.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@MsIam – I thought the exact thing: Richard Kay is loving every lip-smacking minute of this.

      • A says:

@MsIam, I don’t think the ROTA have anything in particular against Will and Kate or the Midds, but I think they’re aware of the fact that drama sells. This is drama. They’re going to stoke it for all it’s worth and it’s going to be good.

      • PrincessK says:

This is the beginning of what l predicted. The Cambridge’s need to be careful. Newspapers and magazines like the Mail and Tatler are desperate for gossip because it sells. Their fickle readers are growing weary of the Saint William and Kate stories and want more negativity mixed in, usually with an anti Meghan slant. But if it goes on and on it will surely backfire. The Cambridge’s should be focused on the under forties and a more diverse community if they want to achieve just minimum popularity in 20 years time. Without doubt Kate must be dreading the future she craved for herself and her kids. The world is going to be very different and unlike Harry and Meghan she is ill equipped for it. If Kate thinks modelling herself on the Queen whose hey day was the 50s and 60s she is making a mistake.

    • Natters5 says:

If the bridesmaids at Zara’s wedding (the Queen’s granddaughter) didn’t have tights on, why would Kate be so obsessed with protocol demanding that Meghan’s bridesmaids have them on in respect for the Queen? And also, someone else’s wedding dress party attire is not your business AND it was hot that day.

  17. Sofia says:

So these people ran to Richard Kay (again) in order to try and blame the Sussexes (again) because an unsavoury story appeared about them in the press?

These people learned nothing, and I mean absolutely NOTHING, from the Rose situation. What’s next? Are we going to hear Kate’s lawyers sending letters to Tatler saying this is a breach of human rights?

    • Becks1 says:

That’s exactly what I said on twitter last night. these people learned NOTHING from last spring. All these rebuttals and such just make the article more interesting. If they had just let it go, it may have gotten some heat on social media, but it probably would have died out quickly.

Now we are on the third day of this article being a talking point.

      • ArtHistorian says:

William and KP’s bumbling ways are a gift that keeps on giving gossip-wise. He mus have an INCREDIBLY thin skin and he’s stupid enough not to realize that he’s just making the story bigger and continuing to provide people entertainment and the opportunity to laugh at him as well as criticize him and Kate. What a dunce.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Becks1 – Who at Celebitchy has forgotten or ever will forget “Rose Who?”?

Every time the Cholmondeleys seem to drift over the horizon into aristocratic peace and solitude, some CBer finds a wonderful reason to bring them back to the front of the discussion. (You people need to quit looking at me with that fish eye and no eyerolls please!) LOL!

    • A says:

They really need to stop running to Richard Kay every time someone writes a slightly unflattering article about them. For real. It started wearing thin after the first time. These articles don’t do anything to meaningfully challenge the narrative in terms of details either, it’s just a lot of whining about how it’s all so mean and awful and how it makes them feel so bad and hurt. Come on. Do better.

      • Lara says:

        “Do better.”

You’re asking for an awful lot there. Not sure a CEO has enough time to do that, given the vast and ever increasing number of duties said CEO has.

      • PrincessK says:

The irony is that Diana used to run to old Kay, and William obliquely criticised his mother for that by saying ‘once you let them. In you can never let them out’. But the Cambridge’s have now struck a deal with the Mail to feed stories in exchange for raising their profile.

  18. Ajsquared says:

Okay… why is no one talking yet about this line from the article?

“ Endearingly, following the spirit of Diana, both William and Kate consult psychics. A medium who went to Kensington Palace to ‘channel’ for them found William to be ‘open-hearted and lovely’. Kate, while scrupulously polite, was more ‘shut-down’. Maybe she was merely going through the motions to appease her husband?”

    • Sofia says:

I reckon they were trying to say/imply that Kate is quiet and “keeps to herself” because she’s trying to keep William happy

    • Silas says:

Light as a feather. Stiff as a board.

      Maybe their homes are haunted.

Maybe Charles III was right about the ghost of Diana returning.

    • Belli says:

And Meghan was raked over the coals for being into new age woohoo when there was a rumour she might want a home birth…

    • Golly Gee says:

And when William becomes king, will he be consulting psychics when making decisions about running the Royal show? Just the behavior one is looking for in a king.

      • notasugarhere says:

Given that most astrologers point out William does not have the mark of a monarch in his chart? Wonder if they told him that while he was consulting with them.

    • Jay says:

There was so much other gossip to get through! Somebody pretty close to them must have leaked about them going to a psychic, that’s not the kind of thing I would tell everyone.
Also odd is the commentary throughout that Kate has somehow been carrying out some intricate long con, making herself appear dull and “closed off” to somehow “appease her husband”(wtf???) but it’s implied that soon, very soon, we’ll see the REAL Kate blah blah blah.

Pretty much an acknowledgement, if one were needed at this point, that Wills doesn’t take kindly to those who won’t dim their shine.

      • PrincessK says:

I am still expecting Kate to do something surprising, she holds all the cards, IMO.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate holds no cards here. When William is done with her, he’ll bring the full-force of the BRF and tabloids out against Kate and the Midds.

      • Lady D says:

I think Kate knows an awful lot about William, and has more than a few cards to play in the event of a divorce. She will probably use those cards to get what she wants in the divorce, though.

    • A says:

Oh I brought this up the day the full article came out. The way the whole thing ended but they dropped this bombshell in the last paragraph made me sit up in bed. It was just so f-cking bonkers and bananas and I don’t know how or why the author thought they could just drop this on us and NOT OFFER A FOLLOW UP. I’m so desperately curious about all parts of this and I hate that they just ENDED it there. Like WHY. How. How can you leave this here and not say anything more!

In reality, there’s just so much in that Tatler piece that I think doesn’t get talked about enough. It’d take a dedicated person to write a multi-part analysis/discussion about all of the stuff that was included in it. It was pretty jam packed and so good.

  19. Carobell says:

Is she that thin? She is what I call ‘rich person thin’, the kind that demonstrates you have time (and help) to dedicate to being thin.

But she isn’t skeletal, are they trying to imply she is so dedicated to Diana cosplay that she is also bulimic?

    • Becks1 says:

She has gotten extraordinarily thin since Louis’s birth. There were pictures of her from last summer that really threw me off in terms of how skinny she was. Maybe it is “rich person thin” like you said but its not her natural frame.

      • notasugarhere says:

Her natural weight was at Uni and the first few years after that. Hasn’t been seen since.

    • Mignionette says:

I find the claim quite plausible. Children will often re-enact their traumas to make sense of them. Maybe that’s what things between her and Billy have now cooled off. He has finally realised that he surrogated Ma and Karen Middleton in place of Diana. It’s pretty hard to stay in a marriage once that realisation sets in.
If anything, that Tatler article looked like an attack on Kate/ Camp Middleton whilst abdicating Billy of any responsibility by infantilizing him. Try as they might to pin the tail onto Meghan, Kate is the one who looked horrible in that article – mean, bullying and controlling to even her new SIL.

The commentary by Turnip-Tofia is the just the final boot to let us know Kate is acting above her station and no one is buying it.
I am guessing that this article was originally more prosaically sweet, but KP turned the screws a little to get Kate to simmer down a little after her outward display of mean-girl at the Abbey. If a similar article surfaces about Sophie then we know that a take down is in full swing.

I am guessing that the last few years presented Kate with an opportunity to feel bigger at cost to Meghan. Now that Meg is gone, KP are simply re-establishing the natural order of things. Karen Middleton is being reminded of her roots and that in their eyes she will always just be the peasant who birthed the future King.

As a Brit I will say the references to Carole Middleton;s nuveau riche tendencies were GENIUS. I wish i could say I have empathy for the Midds but I don’t. They had it coming, they have emboldened the media to a new set of standards so now let them live by them.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I’ve seen a lot of non-Brit commentators not getting all the subtle shade against Kate in the article because they don’t know the cultural codes. They just read the over-the-top fawning, miss the shade and don’t understand how hyperbole can be strategically employed to make a person look absolutely ridiculous whilst actually mocking them. They are basically making Kate out as the Emperor’s New Cloths with ridiculous “compliments” (kingmaker, the most important woman in Britain, etc) whilst making coded digs at her and her family.

The people who miss all of this think this is a sickeningly fawning article that for some reason blew up in Kate’s face because of the “exhausted with her work” claims – and totally missed that this was never a flattering fluff piece but a nasty and sly hit piece. In this sense, it is a very well-written article but the sentiment behind it is nasty.

      • L84Tea says:

@ArtHistorian, I think we all get it. The article is dripping with shade and sarcasm. We see it.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I’ve seen a lot of comments on Tumblr from Meghan fans who don’t get the shade at all.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@L84Tea – All us CBers get it and probably the posters at Lainey, LSA, the DataLounge and those that read Royal Foibles but for many Yanks who buy Tatler just for the pretty pictures of country houses and London Hotels, this article went right over their heads like a Margaret Dumont joke in a Marx Brothers movie.

      • Silas says:

Oof. I meant this as a reply to @Carobel

I feel like we’ve known since the first Canada tour in 2011, in the pictures of her I think in the mountains. The American tabloid stories that summer were about Kate receiving treatment and Kate Couric said something about Kate having an eating disorder.

More recently, there were those pictures of her in the Prince of Wales check dress. It’s most obvious in the picture of her sitting down in an armchair. Scroll up and you’ll see it.

I wish her well and hope she finds peace. I admit I’ve thought that part of the reason the BRF is mostly hands off with Kate is because behind the scenes she isn’t well.

      • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

        I love ‘Turnip Tofia’!

    • Mary says:

@carobel, we don’t know if Kate is skeletal because she is dressing mostly in long flowy dresses, a la Karen Carpenter. Her face, even at her skinniest (like at the US tour) does not get gaunt. For all we know she is skin and bones….

    • Eugh says:

I am not a thin or fat gatekeeper, and I know lots of celebs are very thin but there was one photo where she is wearing a leopard midi skirt and I gasped out loud.

  20. Ladybug says:

This is how I know the Tatler story is true. Why do they keep harping on the damn tights story? It’s fucking weird. They are so out of touch that they don’t realize that it makes them look small. Like of all the things said in the article this is what you chose to refute? And to the idiot who was saying it’s suspicious that there are not any stories about the Sussexes , that is because they are minding their business.

    • Britt says:

Firstly, there’s no need for name calling. I said that and yes the Sussexes are minding their business but that hasn’t stopped the tabloids from making things about up and clickbaiting either. I just find it hilarious that the media wasn’t all over this despite the KP rebuttal especially since Harry and Meghan were name dropped as well and we all know how much they love to overblow everything Harry and Meghan. That’s where I was coming from.

      • PrincessK says:

There is a saying that when rubbish is printed about the royals they keep quiet but when the truth is printed they put out a response or call the lawyers.

  21. Becks1 says:

I LOVED the Kay article. He was clearly told to write a rebuttal, so he wrote….something.

He basically rehashes all the criticisms of the original article, and doesn’t really offer any defenses besides the whole “the Duchess has asked to do more!” (what, she wanted to do one zoom call a week rather than one a month?)

It’s weird because for an article meant to defend the Cambridges, he seems to be just saying “yup, Tatler said this. Huh.”

    • Silas says:

Richard Kay has -I’m just here so I don’t get fined- energy. He doesn’t care about the Cambridges and he let it be painfully obvious the article was written at their request. Odd that he was used when Rebecca English would have been thrilled to write something. Did the DM intervene?

      • Mignionette says:

Rebecca is currently in ‘purgatory’ for being caught hacking Harry so they can’t be seen to associate with her right now…..

But can you imagine if all these years Bill knew Rebecca was hacking his younger brother and actively encouraged her to publish horrible stories about him to delfect from himself.

Meghan really did save the Prince and not the other way round.

      • BayTampaBay says:

“I’m just here so I don’t get fined”

@Silas – I am not a Brit so I do not get this one. Are you referring to the lockdown?

      • Silas says:

And Harry thought the Windsors would be the family Meghan had never had. He really didn’t know.

      • oldmom says:

Woo-hoo!!! Kudos to Silas for weaving a Mashawn Lynch reference into this *delicious* thread! Enjoying my popcorn here in Oakland! Go on!

      • Feeshalori says:

@Silas, I had to google the Mashawn Lynch reference. Very clever!

      • Becks1 says:

@Bay – lol, no. Its from Marshawn Lynch, a RB for the Seahawks at the time. He hated talking to the press, and I guess someone (the league? his team?) told him he had to do the post game press conferences.

So he went to one and his answer to every.single.question was “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.” It was amazing.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Becks1 – Thanks for the clarification. That line is really funny in the context of Richard Kay.

      • Molly says:

I’m sorry @BayTampaBay, I didn’t see your post when I posted. Thanks @Becks1 for the explanation.

        @oldmom, @Feeshalori, I’m glad you liked it. ☺

      • notasugarhere says:

Made me think of the line, ‘I’m just here for the food’ from EverAfter.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

The rebuttal pretty much confirms what Tatler wrote.

    • Golly Gee says:

Kay did exactly the same thing when William went running to him with the Rose rebuttal story. He makes things sound even worse. He words things in such a way that the rebuttal just sounds absurd and only brings the truth — which is supposedly being refuted — into sharper focus. This is no accident either.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Richard Kay is #TeamCholmondeley as he is friends with Rose’s parents as well as her BIL, Edward Lambton, 7th Earl of Durham.

  22. taylor says:

kp is so painfully predictable. anyway, as if it wasn’t clear before (hello commonwealth service), kate isn’t nearly as stoic and impervious as they have been imploring people to believe.

  23. Belli says:

Does William realise that running to Richard Kay AGAIN makes it even more obvious that he was the one behind the weird Rose rebuttal article?

    • Silas says:

Did you see the clips of William talking about the virus when he was in Ireland? He’s the type of dumb who thinks he’s smart. And no one will clear up this misconception because he’s the FFK.

      • Dee says:

Isn’t there a point where the public could say, “You know, this gene pool isn’t working out. We’ve had enough, thanks.”

  24. Mtec says:

So they just really doubled-down and confirmed Kate did try to boss Meghan around about details in her own wedding. And when Meghan rejected her suggestion Kate went off “crying” (probably as genuinely as Amy Copper cries about an AA) most likely to Carole about how mean Meghan is, and that moment is what the Cambridges want to say is the moment Kate tried to reach out to Meghan and take her under he ropes? Really? A year after she’s been with Harry? during her wedding rehearsal Kate tries to have it her way and it’s Meghan’s fault for not taking that as a sign Kate wants to be buds?

Now i’m even more convinced she wore that “primrose yellow” dress out of spite.

  25. Digital Unicorn says:

Of course he did – their hit piece of H&M backfired just like his ham fisted attempt to cover up the Rose bush trimming stories.

Someone hit a nerve and someone is running scared that the tabloids will use the Tatler story to drop their DoLittle/Middleton payload.

I think with the Sussex lawsuits on the UK press the Cambridges will be put under the spotlight and made to feed the beast. Or else.

    • Britt says:

The last paragraph especially. Pimping out the children is not going to be enough to feed the beast and since the Sussexes are gone and have cut them out, they need to make up the difference.

      • BayTampaBay says:

And they are NOT going to run anything original and investigative on Prince Andrew as they do not want law enforcement breathing down their necks seeking their sources and info for the criminal investigation.

  26. Toot says:

Midd friends say that Kate never cried, but her ass never felt the need to have Kp deny that story like they quickly do when she’s not getting praised, but she let that lie run freely when it was one of the main starts to the tear down of Meghan.

Kate really is a piece of shit.

  27. Ginger says:

Someone mentioned yesterday that Kate’s friends never said what a good person she is or how much she gives back. Never mentioned her early years work ( that she has worked on for 8 years) All they talked about is how exhausted she is and doesn’t want this. The Tatler article was amazing.

This one that Richard did had the usual dragging of Meghan to make Kate look amazing, because Kate can’t look amazing on her own. I will never ever believe that Kate tried to take Meghan under her wing. She wanted Meghan to fall flat on her face.

    • Jen says:

I think she probably enjoyed having someone “beneath” her. We know the Queen issued guidelines that said when not with Will, she had to curtsy to the blood princesses. Now she would have someone that always has to curtsy to her. She had someone getting the bad press while she was embiggened. She felt justified in making a huge issue out of what someone wanted their wedding party to wear. There was an article a couple months ago about how when Kate and Will visited Frogmore, Meghan didn’t appreciate Kate’s unsolicited advice on how to change a diaper – the tone was “Poor Kate just wants to help dumb Meghan!” but I saw it as “Kate stops by and wants to start telling Meghan how to do things with her own baby.”

      • notasugarhere says:

The Queen always does that. It wasn’t about Kate but rather the line of succession. If the married-in isn’t in the line of succession by birth? They have no rank unless their spouse (the one in the line) is present.

It may date back to when the married-ins *were* other royals (esp close cousins) who were in the line of succession. That must have been protocol soup.

Ex. If William had married Madeleine of Sweden. The Swedes and Dutch are in the BRF line of succession. Madeleine would have held her own ‘rank’ somewhere in the Order of Precedence even if William wasn’t there.

  28. Aurora says:

After her behavior at the Commonwealth ceremony I started to suspect Kate was spearheading the anti-Meghan campaign rather than it being William or the Cambridges as a duo. Now I’m 100% convinced the hell Meghan has been put through the past few years is entirely Kate’s doing.

Whereas William relies on specific writers to do his bidding, Kate and her mom have been wheeling and dealing with tabloids like the Daily Fail all along. All those Middleton family interviews in the Fail are starting to make sense.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Kate (and the Middletons) has a long history of mean girling other women so your assessment is potentially spot on.

    • Tessa says:

I remember she and Jecca went to the same wedding. And Kate dressed up in the same type o outfit JEcca did which I found weird.

    • Ginger says:

I agree . Someone on twitter said that they think William was ok with Meghan at first but they always got the impression that Kate didn’t like her from the beginning. I have no doubt it’s because of losing Harry. She lit up around him. I think this campaign was 100% Middleton.

      • Tessa says:

I don’t think William was OK with Meghan because his brother did not listen to him. He wanted to prove IMO that he was “right.” All the sycophants rant on about how Harry should have “listened to his brother.” Kate did not like that she was no longer the center of attention and could not laugh and giggle with Harry on Fab Three appearances. And she probably seethed that Meghan did not need “time to adjust” to work the way Kate did.

      • notasugarhere says:

Kate probably seethed because Meghan is adored by her royal husband. And that Meghan refused to be controlled by the Middleton game plan for her.

      • Ina says:

Kate seethed because Meghan has charisma and chops. Kate is chopped liver next to Meghan.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@Ina – You are absolutely right that Cathy is chopped liver next to Meghan but to see Meghan get the loving and respectful attention from Harry that she never got and never will get from Normal Bill must hurt quite a bit.

    • Jen says:

I don’t know about this. When the Rose thing came out, William ran to Richard Kay for a rebuttal piece that included a ton of random jabs at Meghan. I think it was both of them and they probably egged each other on.

    • S808 says:

Kate was an active participant but so was William. Especially after the affair. They’re both the main players involved in Sussexit.

      • notasugarhere says:

My theory? W&K wanted Harry and Meghan under their control, required to dim their light, do all the work while W&K took credit. Just as William had done to Harry his entire life, Kate was planning to do to whomever Harry married. They didn’t want them gone and free to be global power players. When the exit was undeniable, if HM and Charles agreed to it, then W&K launched the ‘exile them to Africa’ idea.

      • L4frimaire says:

I totally believe they wanted to control them more. It’s obvious that Kate is a total control freak, as is William. But the thing is, if the Sussexes work more, they get more attention. The Cambridge’s just can’t take credits unless they want to take over their projects, and the Cambridge’s don’t put in the same quality work. None of it made sense. I think they wanted the Sussexes relegated to cutting ribbons and attending county fairs, but even then, they’d take that and turn it into something more meaningful and productive. To immediately start attacking a newly married couple, new parents, and to ramp it up to the point where they left the country shows extremely bad form and poor judgement by the Cambridge’s and the rest of the family. I think people noticed outside of the Royal press, and CamStan bubbles, people in that upper class set who are royalists. Why air all their personal business like that for all the world to see, especially if a lot of people behind the scenes knows what really went down, and know how the Cambridge’s and Midds really are and operate. Aristocrats are messy and have multiple marriages too, including to outsiders and people outside their class. People weren’t surprised they left, just that they left so soon and left together. So that reflects poorly on Royals, shows they never, even at the most shallow level, wanted Meghan there. It looks bad , especially now that they’re complaining about work and accusing the Sussexes are throwing their children’s under the bus. How can they look the Sussexes in the eye after saying something like that.

      • notasugarhere says:

W&K tried to take credit for mental health work started by Harry, and only started pretending to do work in the area after Harry got good PR for his work. The messed up SHOUT launch comes to mind, where people at the charity ended up posting on SM how much work Harry and Meghan had done when W&K seemed to claim it all for themselves.

The kerfuffle about KP trying to trademark HEADFit, which Harry had already launched with MoD last October. Harry and Meghan being the only ones bringing money into the Foundation. How a source put it out there the Hubb money was being ‘ringbarked’ to be protected from being misused when talk of separate Foundations came out. Those weird comments from certain ROTA members, trying to give Kate credit for the SmartWorks collection.

W&K wanted Harry and Meghan to do the work, raise the money, and stand back and let W&K take the credit.

      • blue36 says:

@NOTA – I remember that weird article around the time of the SmartWorks capsule release, it was so strange that they were saying it would have been nice for Meghan to “give” Kate that project – like why??? It’s Meghan’s project, she worked on it for the benefit of her patronage. I think that textiles engagement that Kate had was supposed to somehow relate to the release of the capsule collection – after they presumed they could successfully smear and bully Meghan into giving it to Kate?

  29. Aria says:

The whole aristocracy is bull shit. Kate by her marraige outrank them all . Instead of begging them to accept her , she should have done her own job and business that may lead to accept her. If she really wants to punish them she should have team up with Meghan, both as team would have destroyed them. Because that’s what I would have done in that position I will gladly choose my sil even if I dont like her because you have dont need the world abt your relationship. By that she would have strength her position with biracial duchess because those snobby will be afraid of that team. Instead Kate choose the aristocracy over her SIL now paying the price. Many people hear said that aristocracy is close circle and have eachother backs. With kate being part of smear campaign they might be afraid of that she will not have their back because she can do that to her own sil with biracial and she may even cry fake tear over them. That’s why they slapped before she has the chances.karen middleton and her deranged fans are nightmare how they leave horrible comments on rose IG. That’s why they slapped her and her mom before she got the chance. Also those aristo are bunch of deranged idiots like Windsor and their snobbery. They are exactly like Windsor their lives is miserable and they also need public money that’s why they wheel out their house tour. Most aristocracy dont have that money as share or cash . That’s why they hold so tightly to their ancestral home that’s the only thing have meaningful. Again and again Kate is short sighted. Idiots 🤦‍♀️

    • notasugarhere says:

The royals don’t outrank the aristocracy. Crazy but true. To the aristocracy, royal titles are meaningless. The royal males only get aristo titles at marriage, but they’re seen as ‘other’ than inherited titles.

      • Elizabeth says:

Not a sugar, that makes no sense, all nobility flows from the monarch.

      • Aria says:

But those aristo have to curtsey to any blood royal which indeed outranks them??

      • MsIam says:

@Elizabeth, I’m guessing it’s because those true aristocrat titles come with land attached that can be passed on. In other words wealth. The titles of the princes other than the direct heir don’t have assets attached.

      • Abena Asantewaa says:

@Notasugarhere Royals are Aristocrats, they are the original aristos, but the royals are the ones who have The Ctown.

Carol Middleton was born on a Council Estate, what you call Project Housing in America. She is working class, who married a middle class, so kate is a middle class girl, who married into aristocracy, and had social climbed to the level of an aristocrat.Mind you William and Harry are thtough and through aristos, ftom the Spencer side. Kate and Meghan are now aristos through marriage, but their backgrounds are middle class.

      • notasugarhere says:

No, they aren’t ultimately aristocrats. They aren’t inherited aristocratic titles as MsIam writes. They don’t have aristo titles until the monarch makes one up to hand them when they get married, but it isn’t considered a ‘real’ title by the aristos. Many of whom have more claim to the crown than the Windsors.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Only the Duchy of Cornwall has assets for the title holder that must be a male.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Hey, @Aria – haven’t seen you on here in a while! Hope you’re well? And that you’ve avoided the coronavirus?

  30. line says:

They no passed two years to explains that rule of the members of house Windsor in relation to the media is “never explain and never complained” Or maybe this rule it only apply to Meghan and Harry.Because it is perfectly normal to Kensinghton Palace to harass morally a pregnant woman, newly married who must adapt her life to a new country and to a new professional function while managing the distance with her mother and her friends. But when it comes to two sneaky and lazy snowflakes everyone has to court to defend them.

Then I think the Cambridges have just opened the Pandora’s box because the Tatler’s article had succesity to hold more interest than all the flattering articles ordered by the Cambridges. Therefore I think that the British tabloid will haven taken note for the futur on the fact that articles about Kate and William ( particulary Kate and the Middleton) selling more when they are attacked than acclaimed.

The Sussexes have left definitely leaving the royals of it, consequently the tabloid have no more intermediary to write dirty stories about them and in case the Sussexes have their financial independence; they will no longer be able to write an article about Meghan spends the money taxpayers or breaking an imaginary rule of protocol. The only ones they will stay are the Cambridges and the Wales but Charles is the direct heir and he is also smarter and meaner than his older son when it comes to public relations.

    • Jane's Wasted Talent says:

Great insights, especially about the tabloids pursuing this angle.

    • Kkat says:

Yes, the sugar articles don’t do well for them. but this kind of shade sure does. i think w+k and the middletons are in big trouble lol

  31. Xantha says:

Anyone thinks the whole tights drama was about Kate trying to center herself in the wedding? She spent years being the most focused on female royal outside of the Queen. Now here comes Meghan, beautiful and glamorous without even trying, I imagine Kate seeing her spotlight dimming with Megan around. And the week of the wedding was all about the Markle family drama, no attention on Kate. What better way of getting some shine and make her future SIL feel small by interfering in her wedding? That would explain that odd white looking outfit and why she didn’t pull Charlotte out. It was just her way of getting attention she never cared about protocol.

    • Lizzie says:

      Spot on.
Kate wore so-close to white to tell Meghan I outrank you and will be disrespectful in front of the whole world and nothing you can say about it.

  32. Mtec says:

Just a Theory, but the fact that the Cambridges have focused on trivial things to refute, like the thighs event & Kate’s feelings about working, but still don’t out-right deny it and call it total lies, makes me thing they’re scared.

They’re scared because this has the Toffs written all over it. And Will and Kate know, if they get their spokes-people, Carole, or themselves to call out all the criticisms in that Tatler article as lies, that means they would be calling the Toffs and other high-society people liars, and that is something that could unleash all the secrets they do not want out there, outside their set.

So instead they issue statements and run to friendly outlets to say, not that it’s lies, but that it’s “not quite right”. Pathetic.

    • L84Tea says:

Ooh, very interesting theory. Makes sense.

    • Jaded says:

@Mtec: I totally agree. The Toffs don’t take exposure like that lightly, they are a very insular and interconnected group who don’t tolerate “outsiders” like Keen ignoring their unspoken rules and exposing their peccadilloes. Keen and Willy tried to take them on with the Rose Hanbury mess and paid the price. Even if she was marginally allowed into the Toff tribe, she sure as hell won’t be now. Remember when Rose showed up at the Trump dinner in a killer slip dress, no jewelry (or wedding ring), hair in a messy bun? That is total Toffery. She showed Kate up who was dressed up, bejeweled and coiffured like a Disney princess. She also arrived with Sarah Vine, Daily Mail shark, so something was definitely afoot to put Keen smartly back in her place.

Keen can’t seem to put a foot right, nor can her bumbling husband. Combine Toff-gate with her behaviour at the Commonwealth ceremony and you see her true colours – mean and jealous.

  33. Eyfalia says:

My insignificant opinion is that this is actually a warning at Kate and mainly aimed at Carole. They want to stop Carole and maybe even want her out. Carole tries to rule the place and to determine who is in and who isn’t. That is why maybe Charles didn’t say much, because he feared a major falling out with William and Kate. Carole was a driving force behind the smear campaign of Meghan. Did ever before a parent of the Queen/King consort try to interfere with royal business as Carol did and does? She needs to be cut back.

    • Mignionette says:

Agreed. Wasn’t there an article last year about ‘Carole stepping back’ and not being so involved in her the Cambs lives. Then the whole b-day fiasco where Bill didnt attend her 60th bday ?

Then she did that PR interview in the Mail and a few other publications. Then the pics of the whole family in Mustique. It really felt like Carole’s ‘coming out’ and launch into upper class society. I’m guessing the toffs found it really gauche and this has spurned the clapbacks in this article with undertones of ‘know your place’.

Whatever is going on I’m guessing that William will remain un-empathetic and unbothered whilst Camp Middleton will stark panicking knwoing that they will be the RF’s new whipping girls.

  34. Amy Too says:

“But the Princess (Diana) suffered from an eating disorder that for a while was a central and damaging feature in her life. For Kate, this is perhaps the most uncomfortable barb of all.”

Out of all the shit they threw at her in that article, she’s most upset about being called out on her uncomfortable thinned and possible eating disorder?! Seriously!? That’s what’s most upsetting to her? That people are starting to question why/how she is so very, very thin, to the point of looking sick and fragile and barely being able to hold herself upright?

There really is nothing more to Kate than her outward appearance, is there? And it’s all she cares about, as well! The article spent a lot of words on how her wardrobe has changed, her haircut, her blow outs, her physical appearance, her weight. It references other articles/public conversations about Kate the “mannequin” with the plastic smile. It was so appearance focused to the point where when her friend is explaining to us that Kate is pissed and overwhelmed at having to work so much, the work was described as “of course she will smile and dress appropriately….” because that’s what work is to Kate. It’s just about getting dressed to be seen in clothes and hair.

The whole row over tights on a 2 or 3 year old bridesmaid is very Kate, as well. Obsessed with appearance. Everything is about appearance. Everything is about how she LOOKS.

If you have zero personality, which is also what the article was about—how closed off, stoic, controlled, and completely void/empty of human personality she is—and you have no work ethic, no interesting or completed projects to your name, no charitable passions, and you have no friends outside of your own mother and sister (who was described more as a frenemy), then I guess all there is to talk about is your appearance. I cannot imagine living such a life. She really came off in that article as being entirely empty. Just a moldable and posable doll that different people use for their own purposes— the royal family, the media, her “fans,” her family, her husband, etc. She does not have a purpose of her own, which is so obvious and so very, very sad.

    • Chaine says:

I think you hit the nail on the head. She is entirely empty.

    • MsIam says:

No, your missing the point @Amy Too. Diana’s eating disorder was triggered/exacerbated by her terrible marriage to Charles and the fact that she felt trapped. And specifically by Charles cheating with Camilla. THAT is the “uncomfortable barb” he was referring to. Got nothing to do with her appearance but more to do with “Rose who?”.

      • Becks1 says:

Oh man, I completely missed that, but I think you’re right @MsIam – that it was a reference to Will cheating and Rose Who? that went right over my head. I thought it was more like what AmyToo was describing.

      • BayTampaBay says:

@MsIam – That is exactly what I thought too. The eating disorder comment was all about “Rose Who?”. Then I thought, since no one else has picked up this train of thought maybe I reading too much in to this.

Richard Kay is one sly old fox. If I owned a tabloid I would hire him. Richard is so much better at his job than Piers Morgan.

      • Feeshalori says:

Wow, Richard Kay missed his calling as a surgeon because he certainly placed that barb with surgical precision.

    • The Recluse says:

Kate really should eat more. Being that thin is bad for her long term health. It will exacerbate, if not bring on the osteoporosis that her stooping shoulders suggest.
That picture of her in that grey suit dress…she is gaunt and it is not a good look and it is not healthy.

  35. Beff says:

I don’t normally give the Fail any clicks, but GLEEFULLY read every word of Richard Kay’s story last night. So interesting that KP can issue a statement defending Kate against a mostly “nice” piece and say nothing to defend H&M from racist smears. One more validating sign that they did the right thing.

  36. Cosmo says:

So Kensington Karen and Kevin are so upset by the truth that they have to put out more articles that don’t make them look any better.

  37. Yoyo says:

Karen should stick to what she knows best, asking stupid questions.
Can you taste tea by smelling it?
Are they still making Faberge Eggs?

  38. Nina says:

Of course he did.., he always do

  39. Pork chops & Apple sauce says:

Strongly suggesting the little flower girls wear tights as a show of respect to the Queen is pathetic. It reminds me of those annoying people (usually women) that populate every company in the land, who chime in with ZERO value added ideas in meetings to kiss up to the higher up’s running the meetings. So yes, I’m going to call it and say Kate is a Karen. Like Roz in “9 to 5”.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Karen and Kevin Kensington has such a nice ring doe it not? LOL!

    • A says:

I know, it just made the whole thing (which already made Kate look pretty bad from the Tatler piece alone) so much worse. The only people to whom the idea of Kate being a stalwart defender of the Queen’s protocol rules would appeal to are the Little England racist types who want to turn back the clock to WW2 but without the war, the shortages, the rationing, and the bombing etc. Everyone else who’s somewhat normal sees it for what it is, which is the petty objections of a nitpicky jerk.

  40. Jay says:

Huh, I wonder why this insider source seems most concerned with correcting the “misrepresentations” of William 🤨?

I hope he issues a clarification to his correction of the correction. This gets better and better!

    • Beach Dreams says:

I’ve seen some speculation that the initial push for this article was all from Carole/Kate. I could actually see that because William comes off as an aimless buffoon every time he’s mentioned. Between the claim of him viewing Carole as the mother he’s always wanted and the talk of him consulting with psychics (LOL), he has a pretty damning image of gullibility. Also, it’s rather amusing that he’s totally obscured on the Tatler cover in conjunction with the suggestive “Catherine the Great” title. Tatler knew exactly what it was doing. William must be livid at how he comes across in this feature.

      • MsIam says:

Honestly, I think the push for the article is from Charles. Even though they reached out to KP, I think this was always a hit piece aimed at William and Kate. Look who comes out looking the worst in this? I think the Harry and Meghan barbs were freebies thrown in by Anna Pasternak. There have been a slew of articles since last year pushing William and Kate over Charles and Camilla. Now, especially since Charles has been sick the Fail has been running articles about how William is such a statesman and he’s more media savvy than Charles, a better speaker than Charles. Then they started rehashing old Charles and Diana stories were Charles is the bully. I think Charles and William/Carole Middleton are going into the cage war via the media.

      • BayTampaBay says:

“Charles, a better speaker than Charles”

The effing Daily Fail has got to be kidding. Charles is an excellent speech maker. You may disagree with the speech but the execution is always excellent. Charles is also much better on TV (Telly Vision) than Williams will ever be and can only dream of being.

      • notasugarhere says:

I doubt this is coming from Charles, he’s in too solid of a position. William is a pathetic next PoW and they both know it. Charles has been the most effective Prince of Wales in history. That’s a lot for William to live up to and we all know he’ll fail at it.

  41. L4frimaire says:

The whole tights thing is still the most ridiculous, and Kay is doing the most by trying to make it about respect for the Queen because obviously Meghan was using not wearing tights on a hot day to bring down the monarchy. It was NOT Kates wedding. Were the other moms there like Jessica Mulroney or Benita Litt, whose daughters were flower girls, crying about tights and still upset about it to this very day? Seriously, what is her problem trying to bridezilla another woman’s wedding? This is what she is obsessed with and what makes her cry from her bottomless well of Karen tears. This makes Kate look crazy. As for the rest, we all know she is upset about this so- called extra work. The press has been writing about that since the day the Sussexes stepped down. Before the Tatler article came out, there were articles in other publications about how stressed she was and missing Harry( and only Harry) so why the revisionism? Is it because with millions of people out of work and having lost loved ones to this pandemic, complaining and whining about visiting a few extra organizations with no extra holidays ( like where is she supposed to go with no flights anyway) is very Marie Antoinette. Meghan was only there for 2 years and still has her patronages, so what is she talking about? She’s at home in her palace with live in domestic help. She’s been lazy regarding her royal duties since day one so, whatever Duchess Dolittle.

    • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

The self-pity and -obsession is very real with this particular Karen. All Kate DOES is take holidays. Have her hair done. Buy clothes. Exercise. Shop. Gossip with Ma. Bitch about Meghan and Harry. Being required to turn up once a week on a bloody Zoom call and do bingo with pensioners is a mockery of – the goodwill of the subsiding public, frankly, not to mention basic common decency. I don’t think this claim has been fabricated or exaggerated: I think she’s genuinely aggrieved that she can’t get away with one engagement per holiday. I wish the woman would be honest and say that she wants to be a SAHM. What a dreary, ghastly specimen she is. And so typical of the middle-middle classes.
In the UK the middle-middles are the epitome of dull, the parochial: the Rotarians with a ‘lounge’ (bet Kate finds it hard to remember to call it a drawing room) with Dresden shepherdesses on the chimneypiece and no books. They sit on the parish council and order comfortwear from the Telegraph’s Saturday insert catalogues. They rustle paper and cough loudly when in the lavatory. They are ambitious for their children and ape the upper middles and the upper classes, speaking careful RP and trying too hard. Dull and humourless, they are always on edge – but similarly always careful to mention that Clarissa has a pony, that they went to Glyndebourn just this last year and heard Kiri te Kanawa and wasn’t it marvellous, have their suits tailored and present their sons with gold signet rings embellished with their initials, rather than a crest. Always chippy about those of ‘good’ breeding, they will sometimes betray themselves by blurting out lines like: ‘my grandmother was a servant, but yours had servants’ and are aggrieved by the fact. They’re passably educated but uninteresting, and their idea of heaven is being photographed with a peer in the back pages of Tatler.
Well, Kate got the front page: doesn’t stop her from being the essence of dull, and a member of a class that the upper classes despise.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Andrew’s Nemesi, You are in excellent form today. An excellent post.

Where would this “middle-middles” lady reside?

Does she shop at Selfridge’s or Marks & Spencer.

        You must continue this story.

      • MsIam says:

        Hyacinth Boo-Kay here, lol!

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

@BayTampaBay Good evening! A middle-middle would live in middle England – Surrey, Buckinghamshire or Northants. She would shop at Marks most days but, if on a jaunt to London, would go to Fortnums/Harvey Nichols/Harrods *just for the logos on the embossed bags*. She drinks her tea (ostentatiously made in a china pot with loose leaves from Taylors of Harrogate so that she can use a tea strainer) with her little finger crooked. She is uncertain as to how to pronounce ‘either’ (eether? Or like her acquaintance Lady Stokes, eye-ther?) or ‘scone’, and always trips herself up with ‘nice to meet you’ rather than ‘how do you do’. Her acquaintance with ‘foreign’ is yearly trips to a villa in the Algarve. Her bedlinen – separate bedrooms from her accountant husband Nigel, if she can manage it – is usually a demure shade of peach. She and Nigel avoid intercourse; besides, he’s too busy recreating Battles of the Third Reich in an enormous sandpit in his garden shed. She also buys her underwear at Marks and Spencer, and has her hair either bobbed or lobbed. Oh, and besides the obligatory potpourri in every lavatory, she finds a way to conceal the lavatory paper with a cunning cloche, a knitted Spanish doll or doily, because she doesn’t have ‘bodily functions’. Nor do her friends.
When they meet, after one-upping each other on their children’s achievements, they discuss what they’ve read in the Daily Mail.

      • Geraldine Granger says:

        This is fascinating!

      • L4frimaire says:

I recall from the article that she is “ nothing to like or dislike”. No one wants to be described that nondescript, painfully neutral way, like ecru wall paint. They don’t mention work or passion. They don’t mention the garden, the 5 questions, or the Mary Berry special ( we know why- shrug). Nothing regarding actual work, which is odd. Regarding books, that console table shot with the pastel books was such a joke. You know she hasn’t opened them. I checked the website of the interior designer mentioned in the Tatler piece, and he arranges bookcase by the color of the books and very artfully ( nice work though). She really is all surfaces and appearances. Not once is the word fortunate or gratitude mentioned, except for hitting the jackpot. Bland and resentful at once. If anything, the Tatler article doesn’t go far enough, e.g. the whole Flybe stunt story doesn’t deliver the punchline, only the part to make them “ look” frugal. Tthe Sussex swipes are embarrassing and immature. This a a fun little article, with the intended barbs thrown in, but it could have been really good with so,even with better journalistic chops and better facts and analysis. I suspect though that might have revealed much more than they were ready to handle, based on the reaction to the piece.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Well said Andrew’s Nemesis! Every bit of it!

      • Lady D says:

Awesome tale, Andrew’s Nemesis! That was so much fun to read. Do they really not have books in their houses?

      • Golly Gee says:

@Andrew’s Nemesis – LOL!! Poor old Nigel. His time in the garden shed is actually spent plotting his wife’s murder. The Battles of the Third Reich re-creation is just a cover.

        @MsIam – Hyacinth Boo-Kay forever! HAHAHA!

  42. Beach Dreams says:

This article did absolutely nothing to dismiss the commentary in the Tatler write-up. Even the anti-Meghan angle is the same old nonsense we’ve been hearing from the tabloids for the past two years. Kay might’ve just made it even worse by blatantly admitting that Kate got insecure and jealous after hearing Meghan speak. Like Harper said, he just rehashed (most of) what was said by Pasternak with a bland “how unfortunate for the Middletons” tone. I do find it funny that he didn’t touch the Rose mention with a 10-foot pole. Kay was probably explicitly told to ignore that in writing this poor excuse for damage control.

    • Becks1 says:

THAT was an interesting inclusion, wasn’t it? that Kate was so threatened by Meghan’s eloquence and poise and confidence at that conference they attended, that she shut her out?

      • Beach Dreams says:

The sad thing is that it’s not only believable, it’s the logical conclusion when looking at Kate’s coldness towards Meghan. I say that because we’ve heard so much about Kate’s competitive streak (even with her own sister) and her inability to play nice with other women. It’s one of the few personality traits that have been consistently reported over the years, especially for a woman so focused on presenting herself as a blank slate. Honestly? Looking at Kate’s public behavior in the first few months after the Sussex wedding, you could kind of tell she felt threatened by Meghan’s presence and popularity. The family events where she suddenly became a statue whenever she stood in front of Meghan are what stands out to me. William had to tell her to move and she seemed to play dumb each time. And that was *before* the smear campaign kicked off.

      • Nic919 says:

Kate could never compete with Meghan when it comes to speaking skills and intelligence. Kate has faked her way through it all her life but Meghan effortlessly made her look like the mannequin she was trying to be and realized just how bad it makes her look. I also think William didn’t like Meghan assertiveness that conference either.

I think both William and Kate saw how much the public liked Meghan and her passion for charity which bothered them as well.

    • MsIam says:

Oh but he did include Rose, lol. That was what that “ most unfortunate barb of all” dig was about. Diana’s eating disorder was triggered/exacerbated by Charles and Camilla’s affair. Also look who is going to end up as queen, if all goes according to plan? Not the original wife. Fancy that.

      • Beach Dreams says:

Ah, that’s a good/interesting spot @MsIam. What a mean way to do that…but I suppose it’s just another case of the British media’s covert snipes. I’ve gotten good at detecting them over the years but still not that good lol.

  43. Eugh says:

They are so so so bad at PR because they are so out of touch. Anytime they quash something they just confirm it harder.

  44. Lady Luna says:

People on Twitter were saying this Tatler story was written by Meghan’s people. They couldn’t believe how people were writing this stuff about Kate.

    • MsIam says:

Nice try, lol! Meghan and “her people” are enjoying margaritas by the pool. And they are laughing their heads off at this mess the Cambridge/Middletons have fallen into. But I think people should look closer to home for a villain instead of over in America.

    • Ginger says:

They were really stretching saying that the Mulroney’s were involved, etc etc
They can’t bare that Kate was seen as anything less than perfect.

      • BayTampaBay says:

Or they are being paid to say such things!

Karen & Kevin Kensington know exactly where this story originated from and it ain’t California.

    • GuestWho says:

That’s a reaction that more or less proves they are actually not fans of Kate, they are haters of Meghan. Anyone who has been following the royals for any amount of time, would recognize the things in this article as things that have been said for years and years. They just took a hiatus when Meghan showed up. Their indignation that someone printed unsavory things about the perfect English rose is kind of hilarious. These twits didn’t follow Kate until there was someone they felt was encroaching on a safe white space and then needed a foil.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Anybody on Twitter (and in the BTL comments at the Daily Fail) who said this story was written by Meghan’s people do not know the first thing about how Tatler operates.

    • Natters5 says:

They are all doing mental gymnastics to blame Meghan for this article in Tatler and coming at her with pitchforks.

  45. Coco says:

    “Dear mean magazine,
You said you would be nice but you were not nice. I am good and my wife is good and I will be a GOOD king. You shouldn’t like my brother. He has red hair and he married an old lady who is different. Red hair and old and different are bad. My father and his mummy are old so they should go away so people can see how special I am. I will be the best king in the whole world and you will be so sorry. You will say sorry a million times and I won’t care. Why were you so mean? I’m not going to play with you or tell you a secret EVER AGAIN!
Not sincerely and not your friend,
    Prince William the Wonder-boy”

  46. Lowrider says:

Of course he ran to the Daily Mail. William is a narcissist and any sort of critique cuts him deep.

    • BayTampaBay says:

Does William not understand that you do not want to get in debt to the Daily Fail as it will be impossible to payoff said debt and more pictures of your children will not suffice to service the interest on this debt?

  47. Freddy says:

It seems that Kate, like Diana, is respected by the British aristocracy–for being the future King’s consort and mother of his children–but that’s where it ends. They don’t like her. She was born a commoner and in many of their eyes will always be one. As for Kate and Meghan developing a friendship..that was never going to happen. They were too different, and while I would like to believe they admired one another, being besties was not on the menu.

  48. Paigeishere says:

William’s tendency to explode at any criticism will be his undoing.

No one cared about the “Kate had a falling out with a neighbour” story until William started screaming that his human rights had been violated and threatening the press. His wild overreaction to such an anodyne story is what made people believe there was something deeper behind the falling out.

Same thing here. Hardly anyone except some random poshos (who already know all this stuff) read Tatler. By running to the Mail, which has a huge readership, William has brought attention to the fact Kate is being accused of being workshy. Classic Streisand effect.

    • Harla says:

I think William is a bit “fragile” and “rudderless” and “feeling a bit unsteady” at the moment. So very reactionary.

  49. L4frimaire says:

That was a good gossip interlude but every time every news item about the Cambridge’s mentions the Sussexes and takes a nasty swipe at them , blaming them for this or that, it makes them look extremely small and is peak Karen behavior, served up with a side of tears and tights. All last year these same people were saying the Sussexes should go away and how they were in the way, hangers on, overshadowing etc.,etc. Don’t complain and blame about the situation you yourself helped create. They need to get over this, show some graciousness, and stop being such malicious control freaks. Is that part of the Princess protocol handbook?

  50. MA says:

There is way too much to unpack here so I’ll just hone in on this:
“ A close friend tells me: ‘Yes, she is juggling a lot with three young children at home while contributing when she can to the national effort, but she is very conscious that there are many, many more people under far more pressure than she is.’‘

Just like yesterday’s statement, they can’t even support those of us common folk that are truly sacrificing with an unqualified statement. They always have to say “Yes Kate is the angelic martyr slaving away for the good of the country and don’t you forget it BUT the real heroes are the front line workers.”

What kind of BS is that. They can’t even NOT make it about themselves while pretending to make it about others. Yes, others are struggling but in the same breath, don’t forget (!) that Kate has so much to juggle with her 3 children, while having a spouse, nannies and pared down staff, mansion, no job, no worries about food/money/healthcare. Also, remember she’s Contributing to the National Effort (by…clapping? Zooming? Something?!). So yes, this is about you all but really it’s about her too.

Something about that statement and the countless others like it really peeves me off even though it’s just a tiny example of the royals’ selfishness and depravity.

    • Harla says:

“while contributing when she can”??? I bet the front line workers are thrilled to hear that.

      • MA says:

Well when you consider her exhausting schedule as a Top CEO, it’s a wonder she can manage to squeeze in 5 minute to call bingo numbers.

  51. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Since I’m feeling tinfoil-hattish today: The source of the constant leaks and horrific dogwhistling regarding Meghan is Carole, aided by Kate, and this is about to be revealed in the Sussexes’ lawsuit. Tatler decided to get in there first, scooping all the other publications, and will be able to say, smugly, ‘told you so!’

    • L84Tea says:

I said something similar yesterday. Could this be Tatler trying to get ahead of some details that might possibly (hopefully) be covered in the book and want to be able to say, “Seeeeee, we were right…”

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

Damn! There I was feeling all insightful and you pipped me to it! And I hadn’t even considered the book! L84T 1-0 AN.

    • Dee says:

Camilla Tominey made a tweet back in January that said something like, “A penny for Carole’s thoughts right now,” basically confirming Carole as a royal source.

  52. Vanessa says:

Every time William Interventions in a story that he doesn’t like he makes it that’s much worse it’s funny how it was ok for the press to bully and harass Meghan daily . The press smeared Meghan for three years no one for the palace had her back no one cared enough to issues denial about her character being twisted into someone she not the press harass her throughout her pregnancy relentlessly. Yet not a peep for the royals or the same people who claim the royals never complain never explain yet here William explaining and complaining again . This is Karma coming for Kate she actively involved in the smearing of her sister in law she gladly went along with the smeared campaigns against Meghan . So many people came to defend Kate saying she innocent she just doing what William wants but the truth is this woman is just as mean and cruel as William she happy to playing along to the white crowd just like William . All her antics like being photographed in the same color blue Meghan was wearing the night before or her dressing her kids in Harry old clothes is all a passives aggressions moves she was making towards Meghan because she is a insensitive insecurities mean girl who couldn’t handle having someone she thinks is beneath her out shine her in every way possible. Kate will become queen one day that’s all she’s has going for her . She so insecurity that every other week she has to have a article about how great she is .

    • Natters5 says:

This makes me admire Queen Letizia of Spain even more as she has written all her own rules of how to be a Princess, then Queen in the modern day world whilst showing the world she is a woman of intelligence, strong work ethic, style and a love of her family and subjects.

  53. Lush says:

Will is really a dimwit full of paranoia, rage and anxiety. Kay/KP should be uncomfortable about the FFK consulting psychics and under the strong manipulations of the Middleton’s.

    • BayTampaBay says:

People have enough to worry about and concern themselves with regarding the the derangement of Donald Trump and Boris Johnson so I doubt anyone (except CBers) would expend any energy in worrying about Karen and Kevin Kensington consulting psychics.

  54. Ginger says:

Remember when Harry and Meghan did their Africa documentary and how the UK shows had WEEKS of commentary analyzing everything they said? Not a peep from them on this article.

  55. Yoyo says:

Kevin is out there putting his foot in his mouth again, looking for sympathy, always copying harry, who said he he get nervous before public speaking.
Now Kevin is nervous about about his bad eyesight, guess that’s why granny bought a helicopter with a co-pilot, so Kevin could work 6 hours a week.
They are pretty salty about him at that air ambulance center. Not pulling his weight, hardly showing and his boredom of the job.

  56. Andrew’s Nemesis says:

To all my fellow Bitchies who don’t live in the UK: if you want a REALLY good insight into the British class system, Jilly Cooper’s “Class”, though it’s over thirty years old now, is a brilliant insight into our rigid social hierarchy. She gets each and every bracket spot on. And it’s rather amusing.

    • BayTampaBay says:

I cannot wait to get to Barnes & Noble to get a copy of “Class”.

How does the book hold up in 2020? Are there any threadbare aristocrats that get invitations to everything and readily accept so they can get a great dinner? LOL! LOL!

      • Andrew’s Nemesis says:

It holds up as well as it ever did (barring technological anacronisms)! It’s pretty genius in its own way: she pinpoints unerringly all the various classes’ affectations and habits. And yes, there are plenty of threadbare aristocrats hoping to hoof a great dinner; many of the landowners are stony broke or running their estates as a business, and have to mingle with hoi polloi in order to keep the roof from crashing down. One Lady, a famed local beauty, was womaning a cheese stall at a Christmas market and saying, all vowels beautifully rounded: ‘may I tempt you to a taste? I helped to make it, you see.’ Those you meet at Lord’s cricket ground and other great sporting events, however, tend on the whole not to be aristocracy but three generations away from nouveau: grandfather made the money (though the way in which he prospered is rarely mentioned, save for X is the -Heir/ess), sent his boy to Harrow to be brought up a gentleman, and his grandson now hunts with the Pytchley. Striped blazers abound.

Reading this back, I can only conclude that I live in an utterly bizarre country.

      • A says:

“his grandson now hunts with the Pytchley. Striped blazers abound.” Truly a most apt summary of the effing British class system if there ever was one.

Thanks for the book rec, I’m going to check it out.

      • Liz version 700 says:

Oh I am firing up the Kindle and getting this book!

    • calibration says:

@andrewsnem so i looked up Class and found an article in the Guardian where Cooper says it was all wrong and just her idea of class. I wonder if that’s true or if she’s simply backtracking? She did say it upset people. Any thoughts?

  57. The Recluse says:

You know, let William and Kate be the end of the monarchy. Just let it happen.
The only ones who will miss them will be the tabloid press in England.

    • Lucy says:

That would cause the closure of this site…eventually, after having thoroughly feasted on the carcass.

    • A says:

Bold of you to assume that ending the public subsidization of the monarchy would ever end the gossip train. Deposed royals make for just as good gossip as anyone else. The Greeks are one example of that.

      • notasugarhere says:

The Greeks choose to be active on SM and act like silly reality tv stars all the time. They are desperate for anyone to write gossip about them, but no one cares.

  58. Gingerbee says:

Willy boy and the missus are getting a harsh dose of their medicine, and they cannot swallow it. What happen to “the stiff upper lip, never complain.” So glad Meghan left that vipers pit.

  59. A says:

There are just some really weird and somewhat pointed and specific denials in Richard Kay’s piece which I think are definitely on purpose. But the whole thing is a muddled, strange mess that doesn’t really set the narrative straight. They’re honestly really bad at this from start to finish tbh, and Richard Kay is pretty much failing them.

For example, the specific denial in the tights story. They’re pushing back against the idea that Kate is a snobby, too big for her britches ahole who sees fit to put Meghan “in her place” by “reprimanding” her. That bit in the Tatler article tries to make Kate seem somewhat noble in that she’s defending the KP staff from Meghan, but the language used in that portion made her come off as a totally bigheaded hypocrite who is dictating to Meghan by imperiously reprimanding her on not speaking too imperiously to the staff.

Kay states that Middleton family friends “do not recognize” the “assertion” that this reprimanding incident happened. That the “tights episode” AS REPORTED BY THE TATLER, is “not quite right.”

To me, this reads as them saying, “Well okay, the whole incident with the reprimanding did happen, but I remember it differently.” Why else would you use the words, “do not recognize” instead of issuing a firm, straightforward denial of the incident? If it were flat out not true, wouldn’t you say it’s not true outright? And why use the words “not quite right”? What is “not quite right” about the incident as reported? This is basically them saying, “That’s not how that happened.” Well, then, what DID happen exactly? Do tell us, because this is not useful to your efforts to straighten the situation out.

I can see why they chose to hit back at that anecdote that Kate “reprimanded” and “put Meghan in her place” specifically. It didn’t get talked about all that much when the article first came out, but that incident reflected really poorly on Kate overall. It also explains why Kate’s offer to “help” was so “firmly” rejected–if this is the tone with which such help is offered, I’d show the person the door too.

Richard Kay’s write up attempts the same sort of doublespeak that the Tatler article did, in that they try to play to both sides of the room. You can’t argue that Kate “flinched” every time Meghan spoke with total confidence and then use that as an example of Meghan being too “determined to do things her way regardless of the rule book.” If Meghan is confident in her work, then that fully justifies her rejection of Kate’s offers to help. All this does is make Kate look even more jealous and petty rather than offer a firm defense for her.

In fact, there’s not a lot in the article that offers a firm rebuttal for anything the Tatler wrote either. The only thing the article states is that they’re not happy about specific parts of it, but don’t offer any counter narrative or facts to say exactly what’s wrong with what was written. Just that Kate and William are “hurt” by the assertions. If the only argument they have against an unflattering article is a whole lot of whining about how the things that were written make them feel bad, then they were better off staying silent and fuming quietly if you ask me.

    • Lara says:

I wonder if the reason why KP isn’t able to come up with a counter-narrative is because they are 1) truly shocked by what they perceive as a betrayal by the Turnips; 2) know the source who related the story and cannot, per Turnip protocol, call them out as having gotten the story wrong, since it would essentially be the same as accusing that person of lying. It seems likely other Turnips have heard the story, know the source, and it is Just Not Done to make such a bald accusation in the DM, even if the general public is not/will never be privy to who that source is. The Turnips would know, and they might see it as the Middletons trying to throw THEM under the bus. Which, given the Middletons’ history, is something Carole et al will never do.

Steel marshmallow cried over someone else’s wedding attire choice/protocol…THAT is the most embarrassing part lol. I normally wouldn’t shame anyone for having a good cry regardless of the reason, but given what she (at best) sat by and let happen to her own SIL, good riddance.

Just reading over these past two years about the Windsors-I have come to the conclusion -they never wanted Harry to marry or have children. They wanted him to stay in the family as an a piece of trash they could use to cover up for the mistakes of others in the family. Let’s make Harry seem crazy or stupid cover our tracks. He was to be the fall-guy, whipping post, or the patsy for as long as Kate’s children are small. He was suppose to stay in line for about 15-20 years-then they won’t need him anymore because the children will be the darlings of the press for years to come. When he did not toe the line the family wanted-all hell started to break lose to discredit him. Meghan, and Archie. I truly sense this was the expectations for Harry’s life.

    • L4frimaire says:

I agree. They wanted Harry to be the bachelor uncle whose affairs would be grist for the tabloid mill, the forever fun boy,Kate’s escort, and Will’s heavy lifter. They were thrown completely by his choice of life partner, someone who is a grown up, had real world experience, including charity work, and was glamorous and American to boot. They still are not over it, and will never forgive her for marrying their prize prince. However, they will perpetually complain about it and lay every problem in their life at the Sussexes doorstep.

    • Nyro says:

You are so right. I’ve never seen a family lose their shit like this all because the little sibling of the family fell in love, got married, had a kid, and moved to his wife’s hometown. It’s all so unhinged, from the BRF to the BM. “Oh, Harry’s changed, he used to be such fun, falling out of nightclubs at 4 in the morning!” ” How could he betray his brother like this? It’s his duty to support William! ” It’s all so weird, creepy, and pathetic. Is this man not allowed to grow up? Is he not allowed to have a family and a life and career of his own? They don’t even acknowledge Meghan and Archie as his family! Meghan is seen as an evil temptress and interloper and baby Archie is merely an unfortunate mistake in these people’s eyes. It’s sick. Part of it is people having a unique disdain and dismissal of marriages involving white men and black women. But soooo much of this is about Harry’s role as the family whipping boy and red-headed stepchild. They care nothing for him but to use his talents and charisma to prop themselves up. I hope he has a good therapist and I hope he tells all one day. He lost not just a mother when he was 12, but his only protector and advocate in that family. I can’t imagine the realizations he’s to in the last three years. I’m sure there are so many things in the back of his mind that he knew to be true but never really thought about or questioned.

      • Tessa says:

And then Meghan is trashed for “having Archie” to “hold on to Harry” and Archie is her “insurance.” Forgetting how Harry frequently talked about wanting his own family. Then some want Harry to seize Archie and take him away from his mother when he “comes to his senses” and go back to HM, WIlliam and Kate who will “take him back.” I would pity Archie if he is let in proximity of William and Kate. They want Harry to be laughing with Kate again as part of the Fab three. Just revolting.

    • Nyro says:

Oh, I also wanted to add that I remember reading that Harry was sort of low-key discouraged from going to university. Like, it was always drilled into him that he was the stupid one and that the whole university thing sort of “belonged” to Will and not him. Clearly just another thing for Will to have over the “spare”. Heaven forbid Harry go to college as well and actually be the better student of the two. It’s like they actively tried to stifle his potential so as not to upstage Will. It clearly didn’t work though because Harry is obviously much smarter, much more driven, and a harder worker than his brother .

      • Yoyo says:

Harry went to Sandhurst, Royal Military College.

      • notasugarhere says:

Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, a British officer training centre, is not university nor does it confer a university degree. William went there too, along with royals from other royal families.

Saw this comment on DM under Princess Elisabeth modeling herself after Kate: “Unfortunately, when she becomes queen and George becomes king, they would have naturally become irrelevant without any help. Most of the girls and boys in their generation are queens and kings in their own fiefdoms. I do not see them putting anyone on a pedestal.” Very refreshing. No one should be slaves to anyone else in this modern times, life is too short, enjoy it to its fullest, look within we’re all Gods!

I think William knows people are getting demystified and irritated by him, lately he’s trying every trick in the book, he’s probably setting up business deals and investments incase everything goes kaput, end of british monarchy will be with him, they are the laziest.

A “geriatric” pregnancy? But what about her aging ovaries? Her stans should be concerned.

      • notasugarhere says:

The Kate stans and Meghan haters were so ridiculous and obvious about that. Screaming about Meghan denying Harry the family he wanted because she was too old. FFS Meghan is only seven months older than Kate, and Kate was pregnant at the time of the Meghan/Harry engagement announcement.

    • barbn says:

In all seriousness, I believe that Kate will have to put on some healthy weight to actually have another baby – she may well be too thin to conceive (when a woman’s body fat is too low, their menstrual cycles become unpredictable and may stop altogether).
Plus, William has been pretty adamant about no more kids. He wanted only two, if I remember correctly.

Did he go on his own volition or was he sent to reestablish the narrative of the “faultless paragon” Saint Kate gifted to the working class?
    Or
To rebut the idea that for readers of that Society Magazine that Kate should relinquish “ideas above her station”
This class system is about lineage and blood lines. So clearly the artice infers that the Middletons do not belong.

Invariably Richard Kay failed to address the latter by rehashing the the tired trope -“Meghan is bad”, while it is clear that the article is about the “kingmaker” and the “royal ballast” not Meghan and Harry. If anything it shows that Kate has retrieved her posltion at the bottom in terms of the aristocratic class.

She was given a long rope and chose to use it to “exile” a blue blood ” prince who can trace his blood line via the Spencer’s back to the 1400’s. All because she need to eliminate the “competition” .

The tide is turning on the Dolittles, Piers admintting he has gone too far and now Tatler turning on them and refusing to back down. I am so looking forward to the one year review. Where once was ‘ we leave the door open for Harry to return (after failing miserably) might turn into ‘ PLEASE come back, we will restore all your honors plus more for you and Meghan’.
