RHOC’s Kelly Dodd on masks: ‘does your pants protect you from a fart?’

Kelly_Dodd

I am playing catch up with this story so if I apologize if I leave anything out. Kelly Dodd, who calls herself Kelly Leventhal on social media since marrying Rick Leventhal in October, is one of the Real Housewives of Orange County cast. Kelly has made the news repeatedly during the pandemic for being the worst person she can possibly be about COVID. Basically, Kelly is inconvenienced by the virus that has killed 406,000 US citizens. Early on, Kelly was criticized for traveling back and forth to New York after limited travel was advised. In response to these criticisms, Kelly said that COVID was “God’s way of thinning the herd.” She followed those comments up with more ridiculous facts she made up about how COVID was killing less people than the flu and somehow found a way to rejoice about those deaths. Since then, Kelly’s Instagram has been a collage of Kelly enjoying her life in heavily infected Orange County and various other affluent areas, all with groups of people, none of whom have masks on. She has repeatedly been taken to task about how casually she’s treating COVID precautions. Every time Andy Cohen has her on, he bombards her with fan questions about when is she going to pull her head out of her @ss (my words). In a preview clip for the new season of RHOC, after Kelly repeatedly coughs in the studio, Andy asked her, again, if she was taking COVID seriously and would she wear a mask. Her response, “I will wear them because I have to but does your pants [sic] protect you from a fart?”

Almost a year into the coronavirus pandemic, Kelly Dodd still doesn’t see why masks are important.

Dodd, 45, admitted during the “Real Housewives of Orange County” reunion that her stance on protecting herself and others from COVID-19 hasn’t changed much.

“Well I hate wearing a mask,” she told Andy Cohen in a sneak peek from the upcoming reunion. “I think everybody’s on that with me. I will wear them because I have to but does your pants protect you from a fart? Like is it helping? Are the masks helping? I don’t know.”

Gina Kirschenheiter, Braunwyn Windham-Burke and Shannon Beador looked disgusted by her admission.

“Kelly, I know Braunwyn did an interview when she said that you were not taking COVID seriously and there were a lot of people who expressed that on social media,” Cohen pressed her. “What’s your reaction to that?”

Without hesitation, she responded, “I said some things that I regret. I feel bad for anybody who’s lost loved ones. I think it’s horrific. I think it’s horrible. Did I take it seriously? Yeah, but I also was frustrated.”

Cohen then asked her how many trips she took during the first six weeks of lockdown. She did not say how many times she traveled cross country to New York, but she did say she went frequently to get business done with her now-husband, Rick Leventhal.

“Like is it helping? Are the masks helping? I don’t know.” But she does know, we all know, she simply doesn’t want to admit it. Kelly has apologized repeatedly for those herd thinning comments, even referring to them as the “stupidest thing I’ve ever said.” Her own mother was hospitalized with COVID, spending time in the ICU, so it’s closing in on Kelly. (I phrase it as such because, according to Kelly, she and her mother are currently estranged, and she found out about her mother on her brother’s social media). She claims her issue with masks is claustrophobia, but that doesn’t explain her unmasked guests at her countless parties. Or, when she finally puts one on, why she takes it off to talk or take selfies while still in public. She isn’t taking it seriously and she’s promoting not taking it seriously to others. A fart might make the room unpleasant, but it isn’t going to kill anyone. She needs to stop deflecting with stupid analogies, they aren’t doing her any favors.

Later in the reunion show, Kelly got tired of Andy bringing up how mad fans were about her quarantine behavior. She fought back by saying that she’d received a bunch of fan comments about Andy, “saying that you’re anti-American, that you put your political beliefs out there, that they don’t want to watch a political show.” The “politics” of course, being that Andy doesn’t like Donald Trump, which explains exactly why Kelly doesn’t “know” if masks work and won’t wear them simply because they annoy her. And if you read the comments on her Instagram, you can see why she feels so emboldened to keep spouting this nonsense – her fans are, in fact, all siding with her, many “confirming” that masks don’t work. And I just know these Housewives will be the first to get the vaccine when their age group comes up because the studios will secure a bunch for them. So I will be in my car for seven hours in the Dodger Stadium parking lot with only Tic Tacs to sustain me while Kelly is fast tracked for two doses.

Absolutely unconscionable that Bravo hasn’t fired her for this and her BLM reaction. This isn’t “the drama,” this is sick. Don’t worry about her getting it ahead of you, I’m sure Kelly Dodd is someone who wears her refusal to be vaccinated loud and proud.

    • josephine says:

What’s unconscionable is that people still watch these shows and give these people attention. I’ve said it before and I’l say it again — watchers are who make this trash famous. We are the problem. Networks/cable are going to feature these trainwrecks, these people who humiliate themselves for fame, these people who say and do awful things for attention, for as long as there is a viewing audience. It is not harmless to watch these shows for the sake of making fun of the stupid, the vain, the needy, the greedy, the pathetic.

      • Mumbles says:

You are right but it’s a vicious cycle. At the top of the cycle is Andy Cohen, a misogynistic little turd who years ago decided it was fun to assemble groups of women, many of whom I suspect are mentally ill, and snicker as they showed the worst of themselves and attacked each other (sometimes physically). Just watch as he eggs them on when they engage in their stupid side projects, or his glee as they lash out at each other on reunion shows. He’s many millions of dollars richer, and strangely somehow a cultural maven, for basically running a 21st century geek show. He’s a terrible person and I side-eye anyone who associates with him (looking at you Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa).

      • Jen says:

Everything you and @Mumbles are saying is spot on, but unfortunately, some people are going to continue to watch these shows and the casts will grab headlines and eyes on social media accordingly-I clearly expect too much, but I just can’t believe they haven’t fired her in particular.

      • shanaynay says:

I agree. All of these women on the shows are pure trash. They are pure excuses of ‘mothers’ for their children. All of the housewives shows should be cancelled.

Not to mention that Andy Cohen is the biggest piece of trash there is. He is the worst of the worst. He should be cancelled as well. He’s a disgusting pig!

      • MM2 says:

Holy Moly, the morality police have arrived! While I agree with your sentiments, I can’t get on a thread that is saying a whole trove of different women are all trash, mentally ill & poor excuses for mothers. I hope you see that you are doing exactly what you are complaining about. Ranting about misogyny & then resorting to sexism when women don’t meet your morality bar is ripe.

      • psl says:

THANK YOU. I have been saying for YEARS that Reality TV has been the downfall of society. Rewarding people with fame and money for being horrible people?

        I LOATHE Andy Cohen.

      • Joan Rivers says:

He doesn’t put a gun to these women’s heads and make them say ANYthing. They get paid for what they do.

Although, shows like this or Southern Charm are “scripted” in the sense that they have a scenario they’re playing it, producers are setting up “conversations” w/various cast members who know what they’re supposed to do.

The lame ones don’t have the personality to come up with any charisma so they just ramble on.

It’s not “misogynistic” to point out that a woman says something very stupid or racist or sexist. Women have hurt me in life as much as men have, sometimes more. Women can be just as vicious as men. It depends on the woman.

Quit this idea that women can’t be criticized or else it’s “sexist” — it’s just honesty.

      • Sunny says:

Let’s not omit Sarah Jessica Parker, clueless mean girl and BFF to Andy Cohen!

      • Mattie says:

While I did watch OC Housewives she and Tamara having their contracts renewed made me stop watching. She was just so hateful and nasty with no redeeming qualities as a human that I couldn’t watch anymore….. I see she hasn’t grown as a decent human

    • Joan Rivers says:

If the show was taped previously they don’t want to dump the entire episode for some comments.
It’s when her contract is up that they can consider her fate.

What she doesn’t consider is, when her plastic surgeon wears a mask, she doesn’t complain, does she? Why does s/he wear a mask, if they’re useless?

    • Pommom says:

I use to enjoy some of the Housewife shows. Trashy behavior like she exhibits made me stop. I grew up amidst yelling, fighting, etc & don’t need to watch it on TV. Bravo started as fun tv. Now not so much. No thanks.

    • missskitttin says:

Her knowledge of Biology is as warped as her fashion sense.

  2. sa says:

Here’s what I really don’t get, assuming that I did not believe masks were effective, I would still know that others do believe they help and so I wouldn’t want to go into public maskless and terrorize all those other people. And even if I didn’t care about that, I’d still realize that wearing a mask is, at worst, a small inconvenience, and being denied entrance into stores is a much bigger inconvenience, so I’d still wear a mask to avoid that. I just don’t get what people get out of not wearing a mask.

    • Nicole says:

My right wing brothers and I go round and round over this very issue. I’m always pleading for them to show an ounce of compassion for their neighbor regardless of their selfish beliefs when the topic comes up. That usually sways them for a little while and probably the only reason they do wear masks, but it’s disheartening to have to remind these two people that I grew up with to have some empathy. And if I’m being fair, I can see them “coming to the light”, but it’s always one of my sils that sits quietly in a corner with her right wing nose in the air. I know as soon as I leave, she gets her claws right back into them. *sigh* We don’t have to agree on everything, but for the love that all that is holy, just quit bitching and wear a mask!

    • Meghan says:

I’m late to this party but here’s my hot take cause I know yall are dying for it- I work at a hotel and lately I’ve been wondering, even with me wearing a mask if a non-mask wearing guest sneezed in my face would it protect me? I dont know, and I may never know BUT wearing my mask is such a small thing to do, why would I not? Is it annoying and do I have a raging case of blackheads on my chin? Yep. Is it having a major impact on my life to wear a mask? Nope.

And luckily 95% of our guests wear their masks, I’m generally behind a plastic protector thing standing 6 feet from them and no one has actually sneezed on me or in my vicinity.

  3. Merricat says:

Ugh, I will be glad when ignorance is no longer treated like a valid opinion.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

SAME. However, I fear I will be dead long before this happens.

    • Regina Falangie says:

@Merricat: “ I will be glad when ignorance is no longer treated like a valid opinion.”

That really sums it up. Very very true.

IGNORANCE IS NOT AN A VALID OPINION!!!!!!

      • Jose says:

But…it is their opinion. Everyone has the right to an opinion. I understand that there is a difference between objective and subjective, but when did people lose the right to voice their opinions?

      • elle says:

@Jose Nobody’s arguing against the right to have an opinion, just for our right to ignore it instead of treating it as automatically worthy.

      • Mrbojanglesisreallyagirl says:

Agreed! While everyone may have their own perspective, to loosely quote our founder fathers, the survival of our democracy relies on an educated, informed electorate.

  4. Miranda says:

COVID or not, she should consider wearing a mask just to hide her botched, “most expensive procedure from the cheapest doctor” face. It really matches her ugly soul, doesn’t it?

(Yeah, I’m not gonna apologize for being a nasty, shallow bitch when it comes to COVIDiots who insist that they have a right to endanger people who don’t have the luxury of comprehensive healthcare and are forced to work jobs that constantly expose them to whiny, self-absorbed rich housewives.)

    • waitwhat says:

I’m gonna go there with you. My reaction to the header pic: Her FACE, that OUTFIT and her HOME DECOR…”budget” is the nicest thing I can say. Yipes.

    • Fabiola says:

Kelly stated she doesn’t believe the masks help but she still wears them since it’s mandated. That’s better than a lot of people who won’t wear them period. Also, all the pictures of her without a mask are outside and in OC you can be maskless outside. I personally lovemasks and plan to wear them after all this is over but this is America and people have the right to voice their opinion.

      • Merricat says:

Yes, she has a right to her uninformed opinion, and I have the right to point out that her opinion is based on ignorance.

  5. Leena says:

What is the caption under that last Instagram picture supposed to mean?? “Real colored picture of female empowerment “ a bunch of white blonde women. Is she dog whistling? I don’t know this chick at all, but she sounds awful

    • TIFFANY says:

That was not a dog whistle.

      That is a white supremacists.

    • Indywom says:

Women who all married into money is a symbol of female empowerment since when?

    • whatWHAT? says:

she’s a trumper. it means exactly what you think it does.

F*CK this person. I hope she fades into obscurity. I mean, she’s obscure to me because I don’t watch any of those Real Housewives shows, but I hope she is booted from the show and that her face melts. and that white lace monstrosity is SO UGGO.

    • kgeo says:

      I think unfiltered??

    • Fabiola says:

The other pictures that she showed were black and white and this one was in color. That’s what she meant. This happened months ago and people who hadn’t seen all the pics thought she was being racist. Plus Kelly is Mexican and so are some of the other women in the pic. Stop accusing everyone of being white supremicists when you don’t even know the whole story.

      • Merricat says:

        Lol. Sure, Jan.

      • Trufflefries says:

@fabiola except that even Mexicans can be White supreme costs too. Kelly often uses this as her get out of jail card and she has even gone so far as to claim African heritage (thanks 21 and Me) as to why she could joke about BLM. While her specific/explicit intent with this photo wasn’t to point out the supremacy of white people, it very clearly shows her desire to achieve the proximity to whiteness that many minorities strive for when they support the agenda. She’s promoting her big old group of white and white appearing group as an example for success so yes, this picture means exactly what everyone else thinks it does.

        – signed a White presenting Mexican American woman who can acknowledge her privilege

    • Trufflefries says:

Edit to 23 and me from my last comment.

  6. Chill says:

THIS!! This is why education is so important. Parents, please stop rewarding pretty girls for being pretty. Education is everything. At least you won’t make an ass out of yourself while being pretty.

  7. Darla says:

I love this fart thing, because i know in my heart that when they first hear that line, they just get LIT up! Like, “AH HA!! I GOT EM NOW!” “Let’s see those libtard faces when I hit em with these fart facts!”

I just die, I really do.

    • Regina Falangie says:

@Darla Fart facts!!! 😂 You’re killin’ me over here!!!!

  8. Stef says:

She’s always been a terrible person, the pandemic just highlighted that in case anyone didn’t know. She’s selfish, willfully ignorant and just plain stupid. I can’t stand her, she’s just a trash human being with no discernable talent except gold digging.

Love how she’s trying to backtrack and deflect from the the dumb sh#t she sayswhich just make her seem even worse.

  9. Linda says:

My Dad just died of Covid. She can shove her attitude right up her ass.

  10. Bre says:

But COVID is closer to a shart than a fart so, yes, masks do help

  11. Roserose says:

People this dumb should not be allowed anywhere near a camera at the moment.

  12. fluffy says:

“A fart won’t kill someone?” Let me introduce you to my DH. We call his emissions “raisin puffs.” Frankly, I won’t even get into the car with him unless I can send in a canary first.

If you’ve ever owned a dog, you know pants help.

      • (TheOG) Jan90067 says:

Our “family” dog can fill a 400 sq. ft. room with ONE toot. So yeah… if he had a doggie-diaper, it’d def. help.

Last night, the dog was on the long, sectional couch btwn. my dad and my sister…and my dad looked up with “THE FACE”…seconds before it it me across the room. He looked at my sister and just said, “Whatever you are feeding this dog, for the love of God, STOP!’, as I rushed to open the big sliding window lol. We almost died laughing.

    • Maggi says:

I LOVE when science is delivered with a laugh, thanks for that link H2!!!!

    • Moo says:

I came here to say this. Yes, your pants do protect others from the shit molecules in your farts! Pants are like a mask for your ass.

    • Margaret says:

Ha! I came to say that pants do protect your outer clothing and your bedsheets and your companions from the molecules. Not sure it makes much difference to the smell but I like the security of knowing my husband’s shit molecules are contained. I am having some trouble convincing him of that though so I will send him that link. 😀

  14. fluffy says:

On a side note clothing may protect one from a fart. For example, after a certain age, with regard to farts, one best be careful one does not get more than one bargains for.

  15. Jananell says:

    These comments make me lol.

I am many of the at risks. I will be wearing a mask the rest of my life because of covid. Even when I’ve had the shot. I can’t risk the fact that other ppl won’t vaccinate.

  16. Valerie says:

“I feel bad” is possibly the weakest statement you could make about the loss of life. Wow.

  17. CanadianK says:

If she wears pants, it is protecting everyone around her from the sh$t shards that fly out with the fart. Maybe that is a better way to think of it…..now only if pants or a mask could keep the sh$t from flying out her mouth.

  18. Mabs A'Mabbin says:

There is a very real, almost tangible, reason I don’t know who any of these people are. I’ve never given up five minutes for real housewives of anywhere. The concept is sickening. Just as the Kardashian show, housewives stir my bile.

  19. Marigold says:

I don’t watch these shows because the people are awful. I used to watch Beverly Hills because I liked Brandi. But she turned out awful too. But strangely, I love Andy.

  20. Lunasf17 says:

Ugh why are these idiots rich and famous? I haven’t watched a housewife show in over a decade and I’m kind of surprised how popular they are still. They really do paint women in a really demeaning way. I wish we did better as a society! There are so much better things to watch on TV than this idiot!

  21. Nev says:

Droplets from a virus is not a fart DUM DUM.
    Have a seat.

  22. Frida_K says:

Dave Chappelle, here in Austin for a series of shows, has been out and about with Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, and Grimes (who apparently was COVID positive as of January 9th). No masks in the pictures I’ve seen.

He just tested positive and cancelled the rest of his shows.

Being rich and stupid does not protect you from COVID. Wearing a mask, staying at home as much as possible, washing your hands, and getting vaccinated as soon as you can are all much better tactics.

I’m so tired of stupid celebrities who think that they are immune. Especially since they have all the resources available to help them to get through this; meantime, the minimum wage workers who have to deal with them do not and are in that much more danger.

  23. K says:

So…is there even the slightest chance that is Borat in disguise or perhaps the horror of a Crank Yanker puppet coming to life has happened? Otherwise I can’t explain her.

  24. judith A reeder says:

Well a fart wont kill you. not wearing a mask might!!

  25. Zantasia says:

To answer her question though, yes, pants and underwear do protect you from a fart. Especially a shart. At least I know it protects my couch from having small children. Evidence: doing laundry.
What a weirdo. Does she think that she is smarter than experts? Ugh.

  26. Mary says:

BRAVO needs to fire her dumb ass or the world will just need to boycott the shit out of this show. it is totally irresponsible BRAVO has not done so already. she has a very low IQ and proves it every time she opens her botched mouth

  27. Bread and Circuses says:

Farts smell because of hydrogen sulphide gas, not because of poo particles.

Gas molecules are tiny, and they get through fabric. That’s why you can breathe in a mask and why farts escape your pants.

Poo particles — and the water droplets that COVID19 viruses ride around in the air on — are large, and they don’t get through fabric.

Wear your mask. And your underwear.
