Kanye West has been having a rough month of it, y’all. Does anyone feel for him? Not really. But it does seem like Kanye has taken note of how many people were and are disgusted with him, and maybe he’s trying to change – not by going to rehab (as some hoped), but by possibly going on a “spiritual retreat” to India. Um… do you think Kanye read Eat, Pray, Love?
This comes after Kanye has had one of the worst months ever. The first was totally his fault – he got drunk on Hennessy at the VMAs and threw a hissy fit all over Taylor Swift’s VMA win. A week-long debacle followed, with Kanye apologizing several times in several different ways. A couple of weeks later, it was a charity concert in which Kanye once again acted like a baby, as reports surfaced that Kanye pitched a fit over chicken. After that it was the cancellation of his tour with Lady Gaga, and Beyonce’s idiotic defense of his VMA controversy – her defense was that Kanye was “standing up for art”. I’d need a spiritual retreat too after that mess:
The BET Hip-Hop Awards went uninterrupted Oct. 10, as Kanye West, who was nominated for nine awards, was a no-show. Just where was he? According to some reports, West was seeking refuge in India.
Friends of the musician say that he’s keeping his location private, but India isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
“Kanye might do some dumb things, but he’s smart,” said one source close to West. “He knows he needs to come back from this break changed, and that isn’t going to happen at some rehab overlooking the ocean. He goes to India, he has a chance to come back seeming like he learned something from what happened.”
Sources within the West camp say there’s no plan yet for him to step back into the spotlight soon any time soon. He’s still blogging, but performing is off the books for now. Not only did West recently cancel his tour with Lady Gaga (she’ll tour solo), but he’s also scrapped plans to perform a New Year’s Eve show at Madison Square Garden.

If this is true, it’s a really smart move, and one that I wish more troubled celebrities would employ. Just get out of the way, go away, don’t seek the press out, just lay low. Come back in six months or a year with some perspective and much will be forgiven. Do you think we could get Kate and Jon Gosselin to go on a spiritual retreat?

I also think it is a great idea that he is letting the dust settle and not in our faces still trying to explain himself (wish Beyonce would STFU about it as well).
Maybe this little break will be good for his all caps rants on his blog as well.

Kanye’s girl is beautiful. She looks good in anything…including no hair.
I’ll admit hair would be better. Maybe she has her reasons which may not be anyone’s business.

I just. . . I can’t with this. . .
I think on any spiritual retreat, you need to let go of your ego and become a traveler. You need to be open to new perspectives, and take comfort in the little things, like a clean bed and a warm meal.
Kanye is such a fucking tourist, it isn’t even funny.
Can you imagine any humility, any selflessness from this man? He’ll be bitching about the quality of the 5-star hotels, and won’t leave his suite without an entourage. He’ll be hitting the clubs in Mumbai – I bet he’ll insist on spa treatments, including a pedicure. (The feet are considered spiritually unclean for Hindus. It is incredibly insulting to show someone the soles of your feet, and it is completely degrading to be asked to clean a stranger’s feet. Worse than prostitution.)
I guess that’s how celebrities find spirituality, though. Spend a few weeks being pampered in a third world country and then come back to the states claiming “enlightenment”.
I hope he and Julia Roberts have a great time finding spirituality in India.
