Madonna defends her gym obsession, already considering another adoption

Can you believe it? A reporter actually had the balls to ask Madonna, otherwise known here at Celebitchy as “The Gristle,” about her man-arms. To her face! Talk about a death wish. Shockingly, Madge didn’t crack the reporter’s head between her thighs like a walnut; instead, she said that being fit is part of her job and helps her cope with the rigors of touring.

MADONNA has brushed off criticism of her overly-muscled body – insisting she needs to keep in shape because it’s her job.

The Material Girl has sparked concerns about her obsession with fitness with her prominent biceps and frequent trips to the gym.
But the 51 year old is adamant she needs a rigorous training regime in order to cope with her strenuous on-stage dance routines.

She tells British TV show GMTV, “(I do it) for health reasons, and for aesthetic reasons. If I have to go out on stage and, you know, jump around in a pair of hot pants I better look good and also when I perform I’m like an athlete and I have to be in good shape. I’m not panicked, I just know what my job is and I know that if I want to be able to wear whatever I want to wear on stage then my body better look good.”

She raises a good point, and no one can deny that Madonna’s body doesn’t look like a typical 51-year-old’s. There is certainly nothing wrong with taking care of yourself, and trying to get as many good years out of your body as possible. But I can’t help but ask myself: should a 51-year-old be wearing hot pants on stage – even if she’s got a banging body? At what point must one decide to age with grace and perhaps leave the hot pants to the 20-year-olds? I’m not saying Madge should dress like a grandma librarian or anything. Helen Mirren is 60-plus and still manages to look sexy as hell – without looking like she raided a 13-year-old’s closet. As for the man-arms, I suppose that’s a matter of personal taste. I think it’s scary, but apparently there are plenty of men out there who think it’s hot.

In other Madge news, she revealed in that same GMTV interview that she is already considering the possibility of adopting another baby.

Popstar Madonna could adopt again.

The 51-year-old star already has two children from Malawi, son David Banda and daughter Mercy, as well as Rocco, from her marriage to Guy Ritchie, and Lourdes, from a previous relationship.

But the singer, whose eight-year marriage with film director Ritchie ended last year, has said she could expand her family.

Asked whether she would adopt again, she told GMTV: “Never say never.”

The star, who funds the Raising Malawi charity serving 25,000 orphaned children, added: “I’m really proud of the work that I’m doing in Africa. I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment in terms of my career and the work that I have done.

“I have four children now and I’d like to think I’m a good mother. I feel a great sense of satisfaction in all areas of my life.”

Madonna, who has moved back to New York following her split with Ritchie, said she did not miss London pubs.

But the pop queen, whose former husband owns the Punch Bowl pub in London, said: “I miss being able to walk around the neighbourhood. It’s more mellow, laid back and relaxed (in London) than it is in Manhattan.”

[From the UK Press Association]

Nice little dig there about not missing the London pubs, eh? Considering that her ex-husband owns one and spends a lot of time in it. So, any wagers on whether she’ll adopt again – and which will it be, boy or girl? She has the perfect set right now, with two boys and two girls. Maybe she’ll go for a set of twins, which will make her even with Brangelina in the kid department.

Madonna is shown out in the fur coat on 12/6/09 at a screening of “A Single Man” at the MOMA. She’s also shown in short sleeves out to dinner in Rio de Janeiro on 11/9/09. Header image is of her performing in Barcelona on 7/21/09. Credit: WENN.com

she looks more fit rather than scary veiny in these pictures. and these casual pics of her in tshirt–she looks amazing! i guess when i start nearing her age i should hit the gym 7 days a week and forgo all cake, because clearly it pays off.

  2. nikki says:

    the pix isn’t flattering

  3. JadedJudy says:

    Everything about her frightens me.

Also, she looks like Sharon Stone in those pics of her in the black coat.

  4. Kolby says:

Is it just me or is she beginning to morph into Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford?

  5. filthycute says:

She’s starting to look like adult film skank, Janine Lindemulder.

  6. sickofit says:

why the hell is she always wearing black?
she looks extremely hard wearing it.
she is not the type for black. beige, creme and white do fit her much better…

  7. Tazina says:

“Never say never” does not mean she wants to adopt again. It’s just a nice vague response to shut the interviewer up about the subject, to not invite another more invasive question on the subject. I doubt she has any intention of adopting again.

  8. trollydolly says:

She should keep on wearing what she likes and feels good in.

Madonna always pushes boundaries and I as a woman in my 30’s am delighted to see an older woman refuse to conform, even though others (usually much younger)feel she should.

I don’t particularly enjoy her music but I think she’s quite inspirational.

“. Helen Mirren is 60-plus and still manages to look sexy as hell – without looking like she raided a 13-year-old’s closet. ”

yea, true, but Helen Mirren didn’t build an empire based on her body and dance music. Madge is ok. If I make it to 51 I would be thrilled to have a body like hers.

  10. mj says:

“If I have to go out on stage . . .and jump around in a pair of hot pants. . . ”

That’s the problem. She cannot sing, dances mediocre, so the image she created was all about how she looks and how naked she can get. Her shows are about shocking people and not about the music.

If she could really sing, she WOULDN’T have to jump around in hot pants.

  11. Anak says:

These women are addicted to adoption!

  12. Mimi says:

What about Tina Turner? She was rockin’ the mini’s well into her 60’s. Still is. And looks damn good! Age, schmage…why do we have to please anyone but ourselves anyway?

  13. jm says:

    Mimi –

The difference is, Tina Turner is one hella talented lady.

  14. MSat says:

I think Tina should cover up a bit, too. I love her, I really do, but she’s not doing herself any favors with the wardrobe choices.

  15. Trillion says:

About those arms: I’m convinced it’s the result of that illegal youth elixir Human Growth Hormone.

  16. JaNa'e says:

she gotta do something to stay in shape. she is over 50 afterall, the minute she looses her gym motivation its all down-hill from there pretty quickly.

  17. JaNa'e says:

i say more power to her. she is over 50 now, the age where whatever body you had has already left. let her be happy cause once she loses her gym motivation its all down hill from there pretty quickly.

  18. Jules says:

With all the plastic surgery and she still looks like an old hag.

  19. Emily says:

She might be physically fit, but she’s not attractive. At all. And it’s not an age thing, Helen Mirren’s still hot, as is Judi Dench. They’ve just managed to be hot without turning into gristle, somehow.

  20. anna says:

DAMN! Look at that rump! That is some rump.

  21. Sumodo says:

I sat in a room full of age-appropriate 50-60-year old women today at a lecture and there wasn’t a facelift among us. Damn! The big brains in that room made us all so beautiful!

  22. Ron says:

I always find it puzzling that posters have to deny Madonna’s talent in post about how she looks. Love her or hate her, she has had more top 10 hits than any other artist in history, and she has posts online today, nearly 30 years after her career began. Untalented people don’t have career records like that. Please keep to the superficial topic at hand please.

  23. snowball says:

You could bounce a bar bell off that butt. There’s nothing soft about any part of her anymore.

  24. tooey says:

Divorcing Ritchie was the best thing she ever did. He’s made some AMAZING movies since getting his nuts back. Can’t wait to see Sherlock Holmes!

  25. Trillion says:

In that last photo, it looks like one puppet master is pulling up on the top of her face while another is pulling down on the corners of her lips. Ugh and ouch!
Tooey: I’m hoping to see Holmes when it opens on Xmas day. I am soooo stoked.

  26. Kathie says:

As a woman in her 50s I must say she is in awesome shape and like Madonna I hit the gym not every day though, every week day and rest on Saturday/Sunday I do it to stay energetic maintain good health and to look good in my clothes. It takes far more effort for the same results as you age and I shudder to think what her daily workout must be like. On the clothing front I think EVERYBODY could do with a little cover up, not just the elders.

  27. Sunnyjyl says:

I wish I were addicted to the gym instead of the couch.
    You go, Madge!

  28. Cat says:

#22: Miley Cyrus has chart-topping hits and radio play too, but I will never say she’s talented or pretty!

  29. bella says:

She’s gross. Tina Turner rocked mini’s, not hotpants. Tina understands aging gracefully. Madonna does not.

@ Trillian: Thanks for that, I think that pic’s hideous, and it makes me wonder what happened to her face!

  30. Mann1 says:

    Ron:

Yes, Madonna’s good at staying on top of trends and hiring talented people to make her music. But you can’t honestly say her voice is good.

Who would pay to go and watch her sit on a stool and sing for 2 hours? She HAS to wear hot pants and shimmy around; that’s what fills the seats. Not her voice.

Tina Turner – she COULD just sit on a stool and sing, and still be awesome, skimpy outfits or not. I think maybe that’s what people mean by talent.

  31. lrm says:

man,i want to see up in the air [xmas day opening where i live], ‘9’ and sherlock holmes…
all these xmas day openings. aargh. i’ll have to decide,or just sit in the theater all day!

  32. Ron says:

The point is, this is a pithy post about the way she looks not her work. I know it’s hard, but reading is such a good thing. Try it before you start typing. Thanks so much!

  33. canadianchick says:

Anak you’re right they are addicted to multiple celebridoption. Also Madge seems to be in fierce competition with Angelina. As a mom to be who has waited 2 1/2 years with my husband for sibs from Africa, I find it hard to see celebs get placed with babies so quickly. That Johnson girl who was arrested for theft adopted from Kaz, her poor kid, money doesn’t buy happiness for that child.Ps. Madge could so take Angie in a beatdown though Angie might gouge Madges eyes with her bony elbows.

  34. Lindsay says:

I think Madonna, like Miley, did great with what they had. They took an average voice and made smart decisions about songs, how to get there name out there, image. Granted 30 years ago Madonna had far less technology to alter her voice and go in and perfect it digitally.

I thinks she is an entertainer first, singer second. She loves to perform live and maintains this gym obsession because of it. There are really two types of professional singers: ones who are entertainers and ones who musicians. Musicians spend would spend a bigger chunk of their type writing and playing music and see tours as a way to promote the album and see fans, not the main focus.

Success dose not always equal talent. It show luck, hard work, determination, perseverance. No one can deny her success and that she was able to makes some extremely good choices that boosted her career, her vocal talent however is debatable.

Did her quotes read oddly to anybody else?

  35. Mann1 says:

Ron, I know it’s hard, but not being a pompous a-hole is also a good thing. Thanks so much!

  36. Nony says:

In that top photo it really looks like she’s got butt implants. No way someone with her body type, age and training regime (= completely lack of body fat!) has an ass that exaggeratedly round.
