David Beckham calls double-date with Tom Cruise a “nightmare”

David Beckman appeared on George Lopez’s new late-night show yesterday, and Lopez got him to open up about his friendship with Tom Cruise. Beckham revealed some unintentionally hilarious details about his and Tom’s “double dates” with their wives, and Beckham sort of sounds like he wanted to go on a date with Tom without their wives. But, Beckham says that one evening ended up being a “nightmare”. And yes, it involved show tunes. My guess is Judy Garland.

David Beckham says it isn’t easy sitting down to dinner with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

“We were at dinner once with Tom and Katie … and we sat there and everyone was like, ‘OK, let’s play a music game, let’s start a singing game!'” Beckham, 34, recalled on George Lopez’s TBS late night show, Lopez Tonight, Wednesday.

Singing in public, he said, “is my worst nightmare!”

Beckham said he noticed one of his friends was dining at another table nearby.

“So I was texting my friend, ‘Oh, please, invite me to your table!'” said Beckham. “I kind of get uncomfortable with that.”

Kidding aside, Beckham said Cruise, 47, and Holmes, 30, “are amazing parents and really good people,” he said. “You say there’s good looking people, and you look at Tom, and he’s one of the most handsome men I’ve ever met.”

Alright, that was false advertising, I have no idea if the music was Judy, or any show tune. But you secretly know I’m right. Anyway, I watched part of the Lopez interview (video below of Part III), and I have to say, Beckham usually comes across as one of the nicest guys in the world. True, he doesn’t seem that bright, but he seems like a real sweetheart, and game for whatever nonsense anyone can throw at him. Hey, at least David Beckham didn’t get a “Chola Girl” makeover.

ew I think Tom Cruise is disgusting. Would never describe him as handsome or good looking.

Plus, I like my men without heels.

  2. Ling says:

Bit too slick. I love how they didn’t even try to pretend the haircutting it was spontaneous. I also love how it was pretty much a Colbert rip-off and they’re lying if they say differently.

But it DID remind me of the awesome line from The Office when Kevin coos to Oscar, “You have that thick Chicano hair…” whilst rubbing Oscar’s head sensually.

  3. Lardy Chops says:

My boyfriend was involved in organising a sports gala attended by Beckham and said he couldn’t have been nicer. Sweet, self-effacing and charming.

  4. Popcorny says:

Tom and David are undoubtedly lovers.

  5. Trillion says:

I have never ever understood the appeal of Tiny Tom. Now, Becks, that’s another story…..

  6. Firestarter says:

I am sure that Becks does think Tom is a handsome man! LOL!

I would think a date with both those couples would be a nightmare. So many inflated egos in one small space has to be awful. Not to mention, no one eating. Kinda like in Interview with the Vampire: ‘They dine on empty plates, drink from empty glasses”

  7. Obvious says:

love becks and want to love katie. lets get them together. i think posh and tom would be quite amusing together.

  8. lucy2 says:

At one point I thought Tom was handsome, but now all I see is the crazy.
You KNOW it was Judy, and you KNOW Tom is all giddy about DB calling him handsome. Weirdsies.

  9. Granger says:

Comments about Tom’s looks aside… Was Becks seriously texting another friend while on a dinner “date”? I can’t even imagine that! It just seems like the rudest, weirdest thing to do.

  10. crash2GO2 says:

What is going on with Tommy’s teeth?!

I had to click on the Lopez interview, just so I could here Beckham’s voice. I’ve never heard it before. teehee

  11. diva says:

What is British Royalty that would be Victoria and David doing hanging around mere mortals and freaks like Tom and Katie? I don’t even think they should be associated with those two, they are far too elegant and sophisticated for those two weirdos.

  12. Sumodo says:

Everybody needs friends. Even weirdo million-billionaires and their wives. So?

  13. teehee says:

Wow I dont like Davids voice!! I never found him attractive but now his voice is totally unlikable… non masculine!!

  14. Sakota says:

I wonder if Victoria dines regularly wiht her plastic surgeon. They are after all the ones who made her who she is. 🙂

  15. snowball says:

Who goes out to eat at a presumably nice restaurant and pops up with, “hey, lets play a music/singing game!”

Uh, how about we just eat and then go home separately?

I bet Posh never opened her mouth once, unless it was to nibble on some dandelion greens or something. Becks seems like he might go both ways if he got drunk enough and apparently, he likes Tommy.

  16. Lizzy says:

If my husband gave me a pass I’d use it on David, he’s just yummy ;).

  17. Lantana says:

David is about 900 times better looking than Tom Cruise.

  18. Betty says:

Now that was funny. Beckham looks like he knows his way around a barber chair. Posh is one lucky lady.

  19. Sudini says:

I was also surprised that his voice is so tinny and kind of high. But woofdie..he’s still just rediculously hot.

  20. LolaBella says:

As a soccer fan, Becks is one hell of a player.

As a woman my eyes appreciated the fact that uh…he is some beautiful man-candy! *Looks at Armani ads and drools* Yum.

The first time I heard him speak I was like WTF?? You don’t expect him to have a Kermit The Frog voice! Incidentally I had that same reaction to Alexander Skarsgard when I first saw and heard him – SWOON and then WTF?? LOL.

Re: Tom Cruise – What a difference a decade makes! I remember having a major crush on him back in the Mission Impossible 1 and 2 era as well as his ‘You Complete Me’ heyday.

Now he’s just a Xenu-loving, couch-jumping,’glib’ hating target of derision and the butt of everyone’s jokes.

From Born On The Fourth of July to this…wow, just wow.

  21. WTF?!? says:

Actually, Ling, Colbert ripped it off from Daniel Rouah:

There’s nothing new under the sun.

  22. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

The ‘I remember the first time that I heard David Bekham’s voice, because that’s the day I fell out of love with him’ story is a VERY popular one.

  23. Clondike says:

Since when has Tom been sporting the squirrel face look? maybe is he just giddy cause David finds him handsome.

  24. Ursula says:

Who sings on a date??? Strange peeps these ones. Tom and David should go on holiday together. LOL.

  25. For Sooth? says:

I thought he and Posh were training with voice coaches. He must know by now that people are turned off by the way he speaks. Hopefully he’ll work really hard to fix it.

  26. Raven says:

Becks and his wife are probably the most well-mannered people in Hollywood. It amazes me that even someone as dense as Beckham has impeccable manners. The British apparently do a much better job of raising their kids to be polite than Americans do.
