Matthew McConaughey proposed to Camila Alves

Matthew McConaughey's photo just asked camila to marry me, merry Christmas
Matthew McConaughey on WhoSay
Did you know that Matthew McConaughey was on Twitter? I didn’t. Matthew used his Twitter account to make a major announcement this Christmas: he proposed to his longterm girlfriend, Camila Alves! Matthew, 42, and Camila, 29, have been together since 2006. They are parents to son Levi, 3 and a half, and daughter Vida, who turns two next week. McConaughey tweeted the above photo yesterday with the caption “Just asked camila to marry me, #MerryChristmas” I wonder what prompted McConaughey to propose after so long. In April, McConaughey told Cigar Aficiando magazine that he wasn’t opposed to marriage, but that he didn’t feel like it was necessary:

“Marriage isn’t something I’m against. My parents married each other three times – and divorced twice. I know a few older couples who have been married a long time and are happy; I’ve been around healthy marriages. I knew I wanted a family and I found a woman I love and felt was right for me. I thought, ‘That’s the woman I want to make a family with.’ But marriage – it’s not something we feel we need to be complete. It doesn’t mean we won’t do it.

“It doesn’t make my mom that happy that we’re not married. But it doesn’t make her mad either. Of course, I was raised to believe that you don’t have sex until you’re married. So there you are.”

[From Cigar Aficionado, print edition, via Celebitchy]

So it sounds like he’s been cautious about it for a while, but that he finally felt ready to take the plunge. Congratulations to Matthew and Camila! I find holiday proposals so romantic, and I’m hoping they have a big showy wedding with a photo spread in People. Maybe they’ll do a barefoot beach wedding, though. That’s sounds more their style.

For those of you who are going to mention the blind item about the famous couple doing cocaine that has been neglecting their kids, I hope it’s not true. It was obviously written about McConaughey and Alves, but that doesn’t mean it’s true at all. That’s the problem I have with blind items: even if you figure out who they’re supposed to be about, that doesn’t make them accurate. That’s why no names are used.

Here’s another photo Matt tweeted of his newly-shorn head. He’s looking a little thin, but I like him bald.

Katherine Heigl at the Elle Women in Hollywood event: much improved or manic?

fp_8036693_rij_elle_women_5
We’re covering the fashion of last night’s Elle’s Women in Hollywood event in three different posts as there were so many celebrities there. Kaiser has already mentioned Jennifer Aniston’s hot dress along with some of the other big names, Like Reese Witherspoon and Evan Rachel Wood. I’ll be covering some of the other celebrities here along with my favorite TV personalities.

First off we have Katherine Heigl in a beaded little black dress. It’s a bit “mature” looking, but it’s not bad at all for her. She looks very good, if kind of crazed here. I like what she’s done with her short hair too. Her husband Josh Kelly came with her and looked almost as thrilled to be there. After seeing these photos, I’m convinced that things are fine with them.

fp_8036686_rij_elle_women_5

fp_8036689_rij_elle_women_5

Jayma Mays in a one-shoulder ruched blue dress with ruffle detail. Compared to some of the horribly frumpy things she’s worn on the red carpet, this was a vast improvement. Her hair is gorgeous and that sideswept looked is popular now. Her eye makeup is a little overdone, but overall this was a win for Jayma.

fp_8036647_rij_elle_women_1

fp_8036646_rij_elle_women_1

Busy Phillips looked a little goofy with that very tight, very high little bun on her head. I want to give her a pass for just looking so happy and cute though. She’s adorable in this very simple black dress paired with silver jewelry. What was she thinking with those purple shoes?

fp_8036644_rij_elle_women_0

fp_8036643_rij_elle_women_0

Matthew McConaughey’s squeeze Camila Alves had her pose on in a navy blue polka dot retro-style dress. She used to be a model, so I guess that could explain her sourpuss face. I love the dress, hair and makeup. The shoes and purse aren’t my favorite.

fp_8036657_rij_elle_women_2

fp_8036655_rij_elle_women_2

Erika Christensen of “Parenthood” looked really drab. I love her on that show, she’s one of my favorite actresses. What happened to her here? I wear more makeup and do more to my hair to go to the store on a daily basis. She’s a Scientologist I’m sorry to say, but she was raised in it. Also, here’s her date:

fp_8036710_rij_elle_women_7

fp_8036709_rij_elle_women_7

fp_8037747_christensen_erik

In contrast, Gillian Jacobs from another one of my shows, “Community,” was way overdone. The bottom half of that dress would be cute with a nice solid color panel at the top, but the contrasting patterns and colors are just ridiculous. Paired with that makeup and poofy hair and she looks unhinged.

fp_8036640_rij_elle_women_0

fp_8036478_rij_elle_women_0

Amber Heard, Johnny Depp’s costar in the upcoming Rum Diaries, was a study in color. I’m perplexed at how an otherwise gorgeous girl can pair a form-fitting pepto pink dress with matte scarlet lips, brown eyeshadow, too-yellow hair and black t-strap heels and end up looking like this. It’s like all the lovely parts are there, but they don’t work together.

fp_8036700_rij_elle_women_6

fp_8036698_rij_elle_women_6

Elizabeth Olsen wore a silver tent-like Calvin Klein gown. It doesn’t do much for her, but I love how genuinely happy she looks here, and her makeup is so striking.

fp_8036668_rij_elle_women_3

fp_8036667_rij_elle_women_3

Abigail Breslin is still only 15! I can’t believe it, as I had to look it up and assumed she was 17-something by now. She had on a very tasteful loose orange dot dress paired with a canary colored clutch and nude heels. She’s wearing too much makeup for her age, but she looks cute here.

fp_8036760_rij_elle_women_1

fp_8036759_rij_elle_women_1

Naomi Watts in a nude-colored v-neck gown. The color washes her out, but she looks so hot. I love her hair and makeup, except her mascara is really clumpy. That’s happened to me when I let a makeup counter person do my mascara. I expect Naomi had something similar happen with her makeup artist.

Matthew McConaughey’s new mustache: porny or hot?

bernie_premiere_21_wenn3399
I can’t help it, I have a thing for Matthew McConaughey and his T-Rex arms and body odor masked by heavy cologne. That’s probably why his Brazilian baby-mama bugs me, I’m gel-ous, but I have to admit they look like two peas in a pod here. Look at how they’re slouched over, heavy-lidded, looking at the press line like they’d rather be anywhere else. Then when Matt straightens up and looks a little defiant, she does too – they’re sympatico.

bernie_premiere_14_wenn3399
This really endears them to me, that and Matt’s new thin 70s porn mustache. That scraggly thing over his lip is not hot, so it kind of releases all my pent up feelings of competition with a woman who is younger and hotter than I am. It’s ok, she’s in tune with Matt and his facial hair. They’re raising two adorable kids together and they probably spend their time exercising outdoors, getting stoned and looking through fabric swatches for various projects in their mansion. Their job consists of looking good and showing up to stuff, and they find it mildly annoying despite how well they fit the bill.

fp_7474876_rij_bernie_11_18

Matt and Camila were at the LA film festival last night at the premiere of Bernie, a Linklater film starring McConaughey, Jack Black and Shirley MacLaine. Jack and Shirley were both there, and so was True Blood‘s Carrie Preston (she’s not in it as far as I can find, I just love her), and also John Lithgow (he’s also not listed as in it, but he might be). The movie is about a mortician who kills a local widow and tries to make it seem like she’s alive. I sounds like Weekend at Bernies, but it’s probably much more interesting considering that it’s written and directed by Linklater. Is this the first project he’s done with McConaughey since Dazed and Confused… no there was 1998′s Newton Boys, which I haven’t seen yet.

fp_7474865_rij_bernie_00_18

bernie_premiere_41_wenn3400

bernie_premiere_43_wenn3400

So did he grow that mustache for a role? I hope so, but I guess in the scheme of things it doesn’t matter. He’s also wearing those light brown boots, so that’s really a double whammy.

fp_7474922_rij_bernie_17_18

I love this picture.

Camila Alves, McConaughey’s partner, does purse line for QVC

camilaalvesI’ve never had a great impression of Matthew McConaughey’s gorgeous girlfriend, Camila Alves. She’s not your typical trophy girlfriend and she seems low key in her way, but she also has been promoting her purse line a lot and she seems a little haughty to me. Maybe that comes from years of being that damn pretty, the bitch.

Anyway Camila has had a high end handmade leather purse line out with her mother called Muxo and now she’s bringing it to the masses. She has a new photospread and interview in OK! to go along with the news that she’ll be selling her purses on QVC. I’m including one of the photos from OK! here with apologies to the OK! people. These were just too good to pass up and there are more photos in the print edition.

You came to the US just to visit from Brazil at 15 and didn’t speak any English. Wasn’t that scary?
I knew somehow I’d learn. It was more like an adventure! I got on the plane and said, “Mom, I don’t think I’m coming back.” It was a destiny kind of thing. I started modeling and stayed.

Your mom’s a designer and your partner in Muxo. Do you get your sense of style from her?
We have very different styles. She can get out there and I play it safe. We feed off each other. Yesterday we were creating a handbag for somebody. We go back and forth. Sometimes we argue, sometimes we laugh. It’s great.

How did you go from one-of-a-kind handmade couture bags to QVC?
We used to make the couture out of our garage. You have to hammer all those little rivets on the bag one by one. We’d have to deliver bags for the next day, so we’d do it all night. Handmade is expensive. We’d get letters that say, “I love your bags, but I can’t afford them.” People would offer to work for a bag. So we wanted to create something special and affordable.

What kind of woman do you design for?
All women. A lot of the bags are big: I’m on the go like a lot of women. I have my workout clothese in my bag, my laptop, my kids’ stuff. And I can still go to dinner or cocktails without going home to change.

Does Matthew give you feedback on the designs?
We’re a family. Everything we do, we do together.

Speaking of family, are you planning to have any more kids in the future?
I had two babies in three years, and my body is just now getting back to normal. So two for now is good.

[From OK! Magazine, print edition, April 11, 2011]

Here’s a link to Camila’s line for QVC. Her purses on QVC run from around $120 to $250 and they’re ok but aren’t standouts in opinion. I don’t like boho style particularly. Her designer handmade purses run around $1,000 and are much nicer of course. My favorite purse designers are Coach, B. Makowsky and Francesco Biasia, and Kaiser just got me a Eitienne Aigner purse that I love. So maybe I’m too conservative to like her purses, but the designer ones aren’t bad. Kaiser and I were conferring about this, and she said that she avoids purses with fringe and bows, which is pretty much my stance on it too.

That said, I haven’t really changed my opinion of her. If she wasn’t McConaughey’s partner we wouldn’t be hearing much about her purses and she certainly wouldn’t have them on QVC.

Matthew McConaughey & Camila Alves: trying too hard or just keep livin’?

wenn3199718

These photos are from last night’s Heart Truth’s Red Dress fashion show (it supports funding for women’s heart disease, etc). Matthew McConaughey came out to support his lady Camila Alves, who walked the runway. Ordinarily, Matthew McConaughey never comes to mind for HGF. It’s not that I find Matt particularly unattractive. He has all of the right parts and everything, and his body is great (minus the dinosaur arms), but… he’s not really “hot” to me, ever. But I have to admit, he looks really good here. Nice tan, and it doesn’t look orange. Nice outfit. His hair is… thinning but manageable. And he looks even better because he looks nice and confident and “Just Keep Livin’” standing next to Camila “Let Me Arch My Back And Show You The Angles Because I AM HIGH FASHION” Alves.

It was truly a star-studded event at Wednesday’s night’s Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection show to kick off Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. With a star-only roster of models in stunning scarlet dresses by a pantheon of designers, the front row fans included Matthew McConaughey (supporting girlfriend Camila Alves in Kaufman Franco), Bill Rancic (cheering on wife Giuliana Rancic in Marchesa) and Susan Sarandon (applauding for daughter Eva Amurri in Chris Benz).

Julianne Hough opened the upbeat show in her custom Swarovski crystal necklace and satin gown, even giving a perfect twirl mid-stage. Following waves and giggles from Audrina Patridge, in shimmering Badgley Mischka, and a perfectly-timed dropped strap of her Zac Posen gown by Dita von Teese, Alves hit the stage — and so did McConaughey (almost)!

The beaming star lunged out of his front row seat, enthusiastically snapping photos of his gorgeous girlfriend, who walked the runway with the grace and seasoned strut of a true pro. The show ended with Natasha Bedingfield serenading the crowd in a slinky Nicole Miller gown on behalf of sponsor Diet Coke. She got the fashion crowd — and Rancic! — to wave their hands in the air before the models filed out to wild cheering and a standing ovation.

[From People]

So, everything was for a good cause and obviously Camila and Matt are still tight and everything’s cool, baby. Good for them. They keep their junk undercover for the most part… although there are always new photos of their kids floating around. But it doesn’t seem like a famewhore thing, unlike some kid photo-ops. But I may have to rethink that after seeing Camila almost bust something just so the camera would get her best angle (for charity).

Is Matthew McConaughey’s girlfriend Camila Alves pregnant again?

fp_5276120_alves_camila_sam_062510

Above is a photo of Matthew McConaughey’s girlfriend/baby-mama Camila Alves, out and about last Friday. Fame Pictures asked if she was covering her “trim tummy” for a reason, like her third pregnancy. I didn’t really think anything of it, really, except that I looked through some photos of Camila from the past month, and she does seem to be avoiding clothes with a defined waist, instead opting for empire waists and anything baggy. Like this photo of Matthew and Camila at an event for Dolce & Gabbana:

Right? Although…there is this photo where she’s wearing a gorgeous tight-fitting black strapless from June 15th. Jesus, I want this dress:

Here it is from an angle:

Eh. Camila just gave birth to their second child, daughter Vida, on January 3, so the baby is only six months old. Sure, Camila is totally fertile and she and Matthew seem to enjoy being parents, but would Matthew knock her up again right away? Maybe, maybe not. Who knows. I think she’s looking a little bumpy in these photos, but I think she may still have a little baby weight from Vida.

By the way, this is my new favorite photo. Camila and baby Vida are both so gorgeous, it’s not even funny. These photo is so pretty, it looks like an airbrushed ad for jeans, you know? And I would totally be buying:

Matthew McConaughey shares photo of newborn baby daughter Vida

mcconaugheybaby
Matthew McConaughey has shared a photo of his newborn daughter, Vida, on his website. Little Vida was born to Matthew and his longterm girlfriend, Camila Alves, on January 3. The photo was taken in the hospital and Visa is sleeping while Matt and Camila look at each other lovingly. It’s one of the cutest and most intimate first baby photos I’ve seen, and all that’s missing is their older child Levi, one and a half. There’s something to be said for the fact that McConaughey has his own charity but they made the decision not to sell the photo, even for a good cause, and to release it free of charge. They premiered Levi in OK! Magazine and gave the proceeds to McConaughey’s JK Livin foundation.

Meet Matthew McConaughey’s new daughter Vida!

On his official website, the actor, 40, and girlfriend Camila Alves have released the first photo of their baby girl, who was born Jan. 3 in Los Angeles (she weighed in at 7 lbs., 7 oz.).

“Our latest family member, Vida Alves McConaughey,” McConaughey wrote under the baby’s photo.

Alves, who makes her debut as host of the Bravo hairstyling reality show Shear Genius on Feb. 3, tells the new Us Weekly (out now) that the baby “is doing great.”

“It’s easier with the second child, because, you know what she’ll be like,” said Alves, 27, who welcomed their first child, son Levi, in 2008.

She said their 19-month-old son is “at the fun stage where he’s talking. He loves saying Vida’s name!”

McConaughey couldn’t be a more doting dad, she added.

Said Alves, “To see a father with his child is beautiful.”

[From US Weekly]

Yesterday we heard that there may be a hint of trouble in McConaughey and Alves’ relationship and that Alves’ mother was pressuring her daughter to get a formal agreement out of McConaughey. The couple is not married and Alves’ mother is said to be concerned about her daughter’s future. It’s probably an issue that they’re not overly concerned about and will work out in time.

Vida is a lovely name and it means “life” in both Spanish and Alves’ first language, Portugese. Vida is sleeping in this picture and her face is all scrunched up, but you can see how adorable she is. I want to kiss her little head and cheeks. Will Matthew eventually share the story of his daughter’s arrival with a colorful description of the birth scene? We can only hope.

Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves welcome daughter Vida

wenn2431170
Matthew McConaughey and his girlfriend Camila Alves welcomed their second child on Sunday, a daughter they named Vida. Little Vida joins her older brother Levi, 17 months. It seems like Camila has been pregnant for a long time but that’s probably because McConaughey made the announcement on his website in June, when she was only a couple of months along. Yesterday he announced his new daughter’s birth on his website and explained that Vida is Portugese for “life.” Alves hails from Brazil.

It’s a girl for Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves!

Daughter Vida Alves McConaughey arrived Sunday, Jan. 3 at 12:13 a.m., Matthew announced on his Web site. She weighed in at 7 lbs., 7 oz and joins big brother Levi, 17 months.

” ‘Vida’ is Portuguese for ‘life’ and that’s what God gave us this morning,” the actor blogged. “Camila’s recovering wonderfully and we are both truly honored to welcome this little lady into our family. Thanks for all of your well wishes and prayers along the way, another blessed day, we give thanks.”

McConaughey, 40, and Alves, 26, announced the pregnancy in June, blogging, “We pulled off the greatest miracle in the world one more time. Camila and I are expecting our second child, bringing more life into the world, making more to live for. The future looks bright as the family grows.”

The couple, who began dating in 2006, chose not to find out the sex of the baby prior to delivery, just as they did with Levi. McConaughey encouraged fans to guess, however.

[From People]

I will never forget Matthew McConaughey’s description of Levi’s birth. It was one of the best celebrity interviews I’ve ever read and after that I became a true fan. He didn’t mince words when it came to describing the birth scene and explained that “having a baby is a bloody, pukey, sweaty, primeval thing.” As for his delight in learning the sex of his first child he said “I saw the pecker and screamed that we’d been right all along about him being a boy.” In a later interview, McConaughey admitted that he’d saved the placenta from Levi’s birth to plant in his yard as per Australian aboriginal tradition. I can’t wait to hear what McConaughey has to say about the birth of his daughter. The guy has such a colorful way with words and you can tell that he really loves life. Congratulations to Matthew, Camila and Levi on the new addition to their family!

Moms to Matthew McConaughey & Camila Alves: get married already!

fp_2137608_mcconaughey_alve
The mothers of Matthew McConaughey and baby-mama Camila Alves are not happy. Now that the lovely couple are expecting a second child, both Mama McConaughey and Mama Alves are hellbent on seeing their kids make it official. For the Alves family, the problem seems to be religion – they are devout Catholics. True, they are nice, understanding Catholics, and they were fine with baby Levi being born without an official wedding. I guess their reasoning was “Hey, these things happen, everything will work out.” But with Camila’s second pregnancy, her family is all “Hey, seriously, you’re a nice Catholic girl and you’re giving the milk away for free. Make him buy the cow, for goodness sake.” Unfortunately, it seems both Camila and Matthew are quite happy with their unmarried status:

Now that his longtime girlfriend Camila Alves is expecting baby No. 2, Matthew McConaughey is under serious pressure to tie the knot with the Brazilian beauty – from his and Camila’s moms!

After the couple announced the good news to their families, both grandmothers asked when they were going to get married, a friend told The Enquirer.

“Both moms were thrilled, but they wondered about wedding plans. They hoped that after little Levi was born last July that there’d be a wedding,” revealed the friend. “But so far, their wish has not come true.”

“Camila’s parents live in Brazil – and come from a culture where respectable people get married and THEN have babies,” the friend explained.

“They raised Camila in the Catholic faith, and they worked hard to send her to a Catholic university. They don’t understand why she and Matthew don’t want to get married.”

Matt’s mom is siding with the Alves family and says that if Matthew really loves Camila, he should WANT to make her his wife, says the friend.

But Camila believes “a piece of paper isn’t going to make their relationship any stronger than it already is.”

The two have already exchanged “private vows of commitment” on a beach near their home, according to the friend, and for now, that’s enough for them.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, July 13, 2009]

I think it’s cool that Camila is all “whatever” about making it official. I really think that Camila puts up with a lot in that relationship, but she seems to take it all in stride. Whether it’s living in a trailer, eating whatever crazy thing Matthew has concocted in the laboratory, or not getting married, Camila seems just as chilled out as Matthew. The most likely dynamic (in my opinion) is that Matthew doesn’t really have any strong feelings about getting married, either way. If Camila felt strongly about having a wedding, I’m sure Matthew would be up for it. Perhaps they really were meant for each other.

Matthew McConaughey & Camila Alves are expecting a second baby

fp_3147208_rij_afi2009_061109
Matthew McConaughey announced on his website Sunday night (Father’s Day) that he and girlfriend Camila Alves are expecting their second baby. Their first baby, son Levi, is only 11 months old. I would suspect that Camila and Matthew decided to announce now because she is nearing the end of her first trimester, the traditional time to announce. Which means Camila is probably due January-ish. Perhaps Camila and Gisele Bundchen have the same due date. There must be something in the water:

Father’s Day was twice as sweet for Matthew McConaughey: Not only did he get to celebrate his first Father’s Day with 11-month old Levi, his son with girlfriend Camila Alves, but the couple is expecting a second baby, he revealed on his Web site Sunday night.

“Happy Father’s Day. It’s my first, and the last 11 months with Levi and Camila have been the most rewarding adventure to date,” McConaughey writes. “We have more blessed news to celebrate this Father’s Day that [will] make this time next year double the fun. Levi is going to be a big brother… Yeah, we pulled off the greatest miracle in the world one more time, Camila and I are expecting our second child, bringing more life into the world, making more to live for. The future looks bright as the family grows…. just keep livin, Matthew and Camila.”

For McConaughey, 39, fatherhood “is a wild, wonderful adventure,” he told People in May. “It’s a great new chapter in life, for sure.”

Make that chapter two.

[From People]

Congratulations to Matthew and Camila – they seem like great, involved hippie parents to Levi and they’re most likely absolutely thrilled with a second baby on the way. As I see more of Matthew as a dad, I like him more. I had always been kind of “meh” about his personality and acting career, but he seems much more centered and cool now that he’s a father. Judging from the epically cute paparazzi photos of Matthew and Levi, I think they’re two peas in a hippie pod. Still, I’m sort of hoping this second baby is a little girl. I think being a dad to a little girl would improve Matthew even more. Suddenly there would be no more trailers and bongo-playing and his life would be about barrettes and glitter. It would be good for Matthew. And Camila probably wants a girl too!
