Jude Law has finally met his five month old daughter, Sophia, born after a week-long fling he had with a NY-based cocktail waitress who couldn’t wait to confirm her pregnancy to the press. The baby’s mother, Samantha Burke, sold the first photos of the tot for a reported $300k, and gave an accompanying interview to Hello! that made it sound like she was holding out hope for a reunion with Law. She admitted that Law had yet to meet the baby or send a present but said “I hope for him to be just as good a dad as he is to his three children by Sadie Frost…. He’ll fall in love with her when he sees her.”

According to The Sun, Law did finally meet little Sophia, for whom he acknowledged paternity back when Burke was pregnant. (They have a picture of the baby and she does bear a striking resemblance to him.) He did it in the company of lawyers, though, which makes it sound like more of a financial support agreement than the fatherly reunion that Burke was holding out hope for. Law flew down to Miami, Florida for the meeting. Burke now lives in Pensacola, Florida, with her family.

Jude, who has rekindled his romance with Factory Girl star SIENNA MILLER, looked stressed arriving in Miami on Wednesday.

Asked if he was set to meet Sophia for the first time, he replied: “It’s nothing to do with you.”

Samantha, 25, her mum Lea and Sophia are staying at the luxurious Mandarin Oriental – a few hundred yards from the star’s hotel.

On Saturday, Jude and Samantha – with two men thought to be her lawyers – were seen entering a local office block where their agreement is believed to have been sealed.

In January, we heard that Law had called Burke around Christmastime and promised to meet Sophia “within a few weeks.” That story was in News of The World, which also said that Burke was of course hoping to rekindle her relationship with Law and that she was considering moving to London “for her career,” and not necessarily to be closer to her baby’s famous father. Now that Law is probably engaged to his on-again partner in skeeze, Sienna Miller, we can assume that there’s no chance that he’ll even go back to Burke for a free refill. Usually, I wouldn’t have given a second look to this tabloid report from The News of the World (via Showbiz Spy), but I think this one might be on the up-and-up. Apparently, Jude Law called his baby-mama Samantha Burke on Christmas Day and made a promise to visit their daughter Sophia for the first time “within a few weeks.” Previously, Jude seemed to want to “forget” his fourth child, but maybe he had a few drinks on Christmas and decided to check in on his baby-mama. Now, first of all, I believe this story because The News of the World reports that one of Samantha Burke’s friends told them the information (which has happened before), and because this information comes couched in Burke’s well-documented sketchiness. The friend also told the News: “She told us they would get back together but I think Jude just feels a responsibility to his daughter. Sam is also considering moving to London. It could be the career chance she wanted.” Yep. Sounds like my working theory on Samantha Burke – that the girl is batsh-t crazy and obsessed with forcing a relationship between herself and Jude.

Burke, 25, bragged to friends the Sherlock Holmes star phoned at Christmas to arrange a visit “within a few weeks”.

“She’s over the moon. She was hurt he had not seen Sophia,” a source told British newspaper the News of The World.

Sam, the insider said, hopes she can rekindle her romance with Jude — even though he is back with former flame Sienna Miller.

“She told us they would get back together but I think Jude just feels a responsibility to his daughter,” revealed the insider.

“Sam is also considering moving to London. It could be the career chance she wanted.”

I think Jude is a tool for many reasons involving this sketchy situation, but I don’t think Samantha is any kind of angel, or a wronged woman in any sense. I think she got what she wanted – a piece of Jude, a connection to him, a claim to some kind of fame. Personally, I don’t blame Jude for wanting to distance himself from Samantha, but I do think they should be able to work out some way he can be part of little Sophia’s life. That poor kid. Seriously.

Jude Law was on Letterman last night to promote Sherlock Holmes. Throughout his meager publicity trail for the film, no journalist has been asking Jude any questions about the Samantha Burke/baby-daddy situation. It’s my understanding that the “no questions about my fourth child” rule is something established before the interview, probably by Jude’s publicist to whatever media outlet. So it’s interesting that David Letterman is the one to come the closest to asking about it (video here). When David and Jude were talking about holiday plans, David asked how many children Jude had, and Jude responded “three”. Well… he has three kids with Sadie Frost, and one with Samantha. Ugh.

Jude Law is quite the super-sleuth when it comes to helping solve mysteries as Dr. John Watson in the upcoming Sherlock Holmes film—but when it comes to playing the role of doting dad, however, Jude can’t seem to remember his lines.

Speaking with David Letterman Thursday, Law told Letterman he had a fun beach vacation planned for his children this holiday season.

When Letterman asked him how many kids he has, Law responded, “Three.”

Law does have three children with his former wife, Sadie Frost, but — Oops! — there’s a fourth he forgot to mention: baby Sophia, who was born September 22 to Law’s one-time fling, model Samantha Burke.

Hopefully, he remembers to keep those checks coming. Sherlock Holmes opens in theaters Christmas Day.

Here’s the thing – I don’t blame Jude for not wanting to talk about the Burke situation, or to force journalists to not ask any questions, or even to try to distance himself from the baby-mama, Samantha, who seems a little crazy. But on the off chance Jude does get asked about it, I would expect him to at least admit that there is a fourth child in the mix. It’s just an a-hole move to act like the baby doesn’t exist. It’s not the baby’s fault that mama is a crazy and daddy can’t keep it zipped.

According to OK! UK, Sienna Miller and Jude Law may be back on. This makes perfect sense to me, because they are both two of the most self-destructive, self-defeating, horny celebrities out there. Both of them will literally screw anyone who gives them the side-eye. Examples for Jude: Samantha Burke and any and all of the random chicas he’s bangin’ while in New York. Examples for Sienna: Her entire dating history. Anyway, both Jude and Sienna are doing separate plays on Broadway, and they may already to be back together:

JUDE Law and Sienna Miller could be set to rekindle their romance after meeting for a few dinner dates recently.

The pair – who dated after meeting on the set of Alfie in 2004 but split in 2006 following Jude’s affair with his children’s nanny – have had a series of secret meetings in New York, where they are both appearing on Broadway.

A source said: “Sienna and Jude have met up a few times and got on really well.”

A spokesperson has confirmed that the pair have met up although did not comment on whether they are dating again.

The source added: “Sienna had her heart broken by Jude, but she was young and it was the first time she’d fallen in love. What people don’t realise is that they always remained close, so who knows where this will lead to next.”

I don’t know what to think about this, really. On one hand, it could make sense. Sienna and Jude were on-again, off-again so many times that one more shot isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. On the other hand, both of them like their strange, you know? Jude has been seen in the company of random women while in New York, and Sienna is still slightly connected to Slinky Wizard and Balthazar Getty, sort of.

In other Jude Law news, I’m reading the full Hello! interview with Samantha Burke, and this chick is definitely crazy. In addition to the interview excerpts we got yesterday – all about how baby Sophia pouts just like her daddy – Samantha also talks about how she and Jude met:

Hello: How did you meet Jude?
SB: “I was living in New York, trying to model, but as it’s so expensive I had to get other jobs. I was working in a gym in Jersey City and did some catering – just being in the city was amazing to me. I ran into Jude in a nightclub one night. I instantly knew who he was, but he seemed really funny; he was cracking jokes with people and he included me in that. The next thing I knew I was on the pavement outside, being twirled around – it was a lot of fun. Following that initial meeting, Jude and I went out several times. He was a lot of fun to be around, always making me laugh and smile.”

Hello: Had you seen many of his films, and would you have considered yourself a fan?
SB: “I’d seen a few of his movies. He’s a great actor and very good looking – you could say that I was a fan. Surprisingly, I wasn’t nervous when I met him, though, he was just as normal as anybody. He was funny and very down to earth, which I wouldn’t have expected – it was like a breath of fresh air.”

Hello: Did Jude strike you as a family man when you knew him? Did he talk about his children much?
SB: “He definitely came across as a family man. He told me that he’d been injured while filming, and he had two or three days off. He wanted to fly back to London, just for that short time, so he could be with his kids. I thought that was really amazing. He also had a picture of the three of them in his room, and they’re obviously very special to him.”

Hello: How long did your relationship last?
SB: “A few weeks after Jude and I met, I was scheduled to move to Pittsburgh to help care for my grandmother. Around the same time, Jude was wrapping up his shoot in NY and I knew that he would be heading back to the UK. I knew that as we headed in separate directions our relationship would not continue. And I was okay with that. I was living in the moment and I really enjoyed all my time with Jude. I really have no regrets.”

So, the gist of the story is that Jude Law got his stalker pregnant. Too harsh? The interview goes on and on and Samantha keeps talking about her “relationship” with Jude and how happy she was with the situation. I also think she got pregnant on purpose, but that’s just my theory. She “fell in love” with Jude and decided she wanted him in her life permanently. When asked about her future relationship with Jude, she says she wants to “have a friendship and be cordial. I want everything to be positive around Sophia… so hopefully, we can work things out.”

Samantha also says that she hopes Sophia is “just as talented” as her father, so we can look forward to Sophia being a child actor any day now. Meanwhile, whenever Hello asks her questions like “Has Jude seen pictures of Sophia?” the answer is always “no”. They even asked if Jude or Sadie Frost sent Sophia any gifts. The answer was no. Samantha also “doesn’t rule out” moving closer to Jude, whether that means London or New York, whatever. She has plans to continue stalking him. It’s almost enough to make feel a twinge of pity for Jude. But not really.

Yowza. Earlier today we told you about Jude Law’s baby-mama and her debut (and the debut of their daughter Sophia) on the cover of Britain’s Hello Magazine. When I did the first story, I hadn’t seen the cover shot of Samantha and Burke and Sophia yet. Now that I’m seeing it… well, regarding Samantha, I really don’t think this chick is 24 years old. Think about it – this is how she looks with magazine lighting magic. And she still looks like a 40-year-old chain smoker. As for the baby, she’s cute enough. She looks a little gassy. Do you think the Hello photographers could have waited a few minutes to let the poor baby have her bowel movement?

Samantha was reportedly paid $300,000 for the first pictures, and it looks like an extensive interview with Samantha was in the works too. Radar and other sources have excerpts from the interview, and let me just say this – I think this chick is crazy. I know, I know. She’s going through some stuff, she just had a baby, she’s worried about supporting herself (maybe), but Samantha comes across as very… clingy. But it’s something else, too, something more than clingy. Like, I get the feeling Samantha really thinks that once Jude sees her again and meets Sophia, he’s going to drop to one knee and propose. What is that called? Just “crazy”?

When asked whether Jude is going to eventually come down to Florida to meet Sophia, Samantha says, “There are no plans for it to happen at the moment, but I know he is busy. He’s a great father to his three kids. She is his daughter and I believe he’ll come through – Once you see her face, how can you deny it?” Okay, we see it, I guess. There’s no denying the DNA test, in any case, Sophia doesn’t even have to look like Jude. Even if Sophia does “pout” the same way Jude does. Oh, yes. Samantha said it.

The Florida based model – who had her daughter following a brief fling with the superstar – revealed how she had to endure a marathon 25 hours of labor and how her daughter was born weighing just 5lbs 12oz.

Burke spoke after signing a lucrative deal with Hello Magazine in which her daughter and she posed for a glossy photo-shoot at her Florida home.

Law – who is currently starring in Hamlet on Broadway – has still not seen his new daughter who was born last month.

Burke – who reportedly scooped $300,000 for the photo shoot – revealed: “She’s already got such a personality – I think he’ll fall in love with her when he sees her.”

“Her features are more like Jude’s. She has his chin, and she does a little pout that I notice that he’s done before – I think her eyes are more like mine though.”

“You can’t always tell when they are so young but her eyes don’t have that big, glassy look that his do – mine are a little smaller and more like hers.”

In her interview Burke reveals how she met Law at a nightclub in New York and that he had not sent any gifts since heir daughter was born.

But she did admit that she hopes the father-of-three, who will soon be seen in Guy Ritchie’s new film Sherlock Holmes alongside Robert Downey Jnr, will come and visit Sophia soon.

She added: “I hope for him to be just as good a dad as he is to his three children by Sadie Frost.

“He’s a great father to his three kids. She is his daughter and I believe he’ll come through – I mean once you see her face how can you deny it?”

Law already has three children with former wife Rafferty, 13, Iris, 9, and Rudy, 7.

Additionally, Samantha says: “I think of my relationship with my father, and I think it’s just as important as your relationship with your mother. The Daily Mail is reporting that Jude Law’s baby-mama Samantha Burke is selling the first photos of her and Jude’s daughter Sophia. Allegedly, the price being paid is around $300,000, or roughly 180,000 British pounds (according to the current exchange rate). The Mail believes that Hello! Magazine is paying for the photos, which makes sense. And usually if Hello! gets the pictures, People Magazine will too. My guess is that Hello! and OK! Magazine (both American and UK) were probably bidding for the first pictures.

It honestly doesn’t surprise me at all that Samantha is selling the photos. Allegedly, she was already making deals while she was still pregnant. And, I mean, what else does she have going on? Her career is pretty much “slept with Jude Law once or twice, got pregnant, ka-ching!” In addition to the first baby pictures, apparently Samantha is also going to give an “exclusive” interview. Judging by these “insider” quotes, I think the interview will have a decidedly “pity me” vibe:

A team of photographers, believed to work for Hello! magazine, last week arrived at the modest Florida house where Samantha Burke is staying with month-old Sophia.

Miss Burke could be glimpsed posing with her baby under an umbrella inside the £125,000 house in a downmarket area know as the ‘Redneck Riviera’.

Legal experts had predicted the actor’s offer to pay financial support to the 24-year-old model would secure her silence about the fling that led to her pregnancy.

But Miss Burke recently hired a Hollywood publicity agent to sell the rights to exclusive portraits of Sophia, and an interview about her friendship with the 36-year-old Alfie star.

One source said: ‘Samantha may have got pregnant by accident but she’s a smart businesswoman. The child has rarely left the house since her birth and when Samantha has had to take her out for some reason or the other, her face is carefully covered.’

Miss Burke discovered she was expecting Law’s fourth child after they had a brief relationship while he was filming Sherlock Holmes in New York last December.

She is now staying with her mother Lea. Her family have already spoken publicly about Law’s reaction after hearing of her pregnancy. Delores Burke, her grandmother, claimed he had ‘behaved as less than a gentleman’.

‘Samantha is a lovely girl but she is only 24 years old,’ she added. ‘At that age, you think you are a grown-up but you are still very young. He is old enough to know better.’

However, friends of Law have dismissed the allegations. One said: ‘Jude has said from the outset he will support the child, even though he is no longer in a relationship with Samantha. Jude has been a total gentleman.’

Miss Burke’s agent Eileen Koch confirmed last night that the publication rights had been sold for £180,000. Law’s publicist Sarah Keene said: ‘I haven’t any comment to make.’

While I’ll agree that at the age of 24, many people are still making dumb mistakes. However, I don’t buy this whole “she’s only 24, she’s a child who was taken advantage of” crap. Samantha knew what she was doing when she hooked up with Jude – and she knew she hit the baby-mama jackpot when she discovered she was pregnant. I’ll buy that Jude was (is) sleazy, and he should use protection (seriously), but Samantha is as much of an adult as Jude, and all of this is as much her responsibility as his.

By the way, two weeks ago when Samantha Burke’s agent confirmed that Jude was the biological father of Sophia, the agent said, “Samantha can confirm that DNA testing has conclusively established that Jude Law is Sophia’s father. Check back in six months. Maybe she and Jude will be getting married.” Considering Samantha’s agent is still trying to attach Jude and Samantha, perhaps Samantha’s family should stop it with the whole “he’s a bad man who took advantage of her” stuff.

It looks like I was wrong. Jude Law actually did question whether Samantha Burke’s daughter was his. I was convinced that Jude and Samantha had established paternity of baby Sophia while Samantha was still pregnant, and that’s why Jude had finally come out in August and released his now infamous cryptic baby announcement. I had also given Jude the benefit of the doubt about not going down to Florida to meet his daughter – I thought he was just busy. Now I’m thinking he didn’t want to meet the baby until he had the DNA confirmation. Samantha’s rep is confirming paternity, and it sounds like the test was just done. The rep tells basically confirmed to several sources over the weekend that the DNA tests have just come back. This is what several British sources have been claiming for months – that Jude still wasn’t convinced he was the father. Now it’s for sure – and a source is telling the Daily Mail that Jude apologized to his ex-wife Sadie Frost (mother of his oldest three children), who is reportedly “livid”.

At first I was like, “Why would Sadie by mad? They’ve been divorced for a while and both have moved on spectacularly.” But I kind of get it – Sadie is worried about her own financial situation, and whether Jude will be able to support their three children in the A-List way they’ve been accustomed to. Even though Samantha will probably get some kind of payday, either from the first baby pictures or a tell-all interview or book, chances are pretty good that Jude is going to be shelling out big time to support her and Sophia.

For the most part, Jude Law’s turn as Hamlet on the London stage was full of praise. The critical and financial success of the London show was largely the reason why it was brought to Broadway. Now that Jude’s been in previews for a while, the formal reviews are in from the New York critics – and while there’s significant praise for Jude, there’s also some funny criticism. I think I laughed the hardest at the NYT’s Ben Brantley, who noted that Jude’s gestures were a bit… obvious. Like, sign language obvious.

To be, or not to be … a hit on Broadway?

That is the question Wednesday morning as the reviews come in for Jude Law’s turn as Hamlet in the much-anticipated Broadway turn for the production, which originated in London to acclaim and opened at New York’s Broadhurst Theatre Tuesday night. Reaction is decidedly mixed.

“If Hamlet talks about his mind, you can bet that Mr. Law will point to his forehead; when he mentions the heavens, his arm shoots straight up; and when the guy says his gorge rises, rest assured that he clutches at his stomach. If every actor were like Mr. Law, signed performances for the hard of hearing would be unnecessary,” snipes Ben Brantley of The New York Times.

“If anything, Law starts out too overwrought, moaning and gnawing through the great soliloquies as if they were causing him intestinal distress,” Time Out New York’s David Cote notes. Others put in much kinder terms.

“His Hamlet is no brooding philosopher/prince; he’s an angry young man, a bundle of nerves forever threatening to explode,” raves USA Today’s Elysa Gardner , who considers Law’s soliloquies “both muscular and exquisitely lyrical.”

The traditionally acerbic John Simon of Bloomberg News, however, found nothing poetic about Law’s “flashy, frequently jocular and unsubtle” performance in a play “aimed at neophyte audiences lured to the play not only by the star but with the added promise of a thriller liberally sprinkled with yocks.”

Time Out New York, which generally lauded Law, was one of many that had a bone to pick with the supporting cast, finding Gugu Mbatha-Raw’s Ophelia ho-hum, and Geraldine James and Ian Drysdale’s Gertrude and Claudius an example of actors taking the phrase “the banality of evil” too literally.

Then thank God Jude’s pretty, all critics agreed. Noted The New York Times: “Mr. Law’s undeniable charisma and gender-crossing sex appeal may captivate Broadway theatergoers who wouldn’t normally attend productions of Shakespeare.”

So, most people like it. It will be a Broadway hit, and Jude Law will make some money to stock up for all of those child support payments he’s got to make. Speaking of, the British tabloids have been trying to act like Jude has refused to see his daughter with one-night-stand/baby-mama Samantha Burke because he’s still unsure of the paternity. Some American sources tried to play that game too, but I feel pretty confident that Jude and Samantha found out the paternity in utero, and that’s why he released the statement about it when Samantha was seven months pregnant. I really think Jude hasn’t flown down to meet his daughter yet simply because he cares more about gesticulating on stage.

Part of this is old news, or news we just assumed a while ago, but it’s still interesting to see it confirmed in any way. Last week, Jude Law’s baby Sophia was finally born – Sophia’s mother is Samantha Burke, and Sophia is the product of a glorified one-night (or perhaps two-night) stand. As soon as Samantha gave birth, a few strains of gossip started up – like, Jude was not in Florida for the birth of his baby. He was too busy on Broadway, playing Hamlet. At the same time, there were some whispers that Jude had no real plans to visit, but I actually thought he might fly down for a day when it was convenient for both he and Samantha. Turns out, not much.

Several days ago the Telegraph’s gossip guy Mandrake reported that Jude wouldn’t meet Sophia until December at the earliest. That’s when the run of Hamlet ends. According to Mandrake’s sources, “Jude thinks that if he goes to Florida immediately, it will be a media circus… He doesn’t see why he should give the paparazzi the pleasure. Jude is keen to see Sophia and will make sure that he visits her before he returns to Britain.” Well… maybe Jude sent Samantha a gift basket or something. A gift basket with cash.

The second part of this “Jude Law doesn’t even want to think about being a baby-daddy” story is that it seems as if a media miracle has occurred! As Jude promoted the run of Hamlet in New York, it looks like no one is asking him about Samantha or Sophia, at all. Could it be that Jude will only go on “friendly” interviews where the interviewer has sworn not to ask Jude any uncomfortable questions?

At least one subject might be off-limits when it comes to Jude Law.

The star was on “Regis & Kelly” Friday morning, promoting his stint in the Broadway production of “Hamlet” — but one very obvious topic didn’t come up. He was never asked him about his daughter, Sophia,who was just born to model Samantha Burke.

Our source said, “He has banned interviewers from asking about it before agreeing to sit with them.” Law’s rep called the claim “ridiculous” and said, “No subjects are banned.”

“No subjects are banned.” Uh… right. Because celebrity interviewers are so notoriously polite, and they never want to ask uncomfortable questions. Jude’s rep sounds like a lying douche. Of course Jude makes deals – nice coverage, or no interview. It’s as simple as that. And Kelly Ripa and others go along with it because they’re not real journalists. Here’s the thing, though – what would be so wrong with Jude getting a couple of questions about the situation? What’s the worst that could happen? The question would still probably be phrased in a nice way, something like, “Are you happy to be a father for the fourth time?” or something like that. To which Jude could say, “Yes, I’m very happy.” Scandal!

Jude Law’s baby-mama Samantha Burke gave birth to their daughter yesterday, a little girl Samantha named Sophia. Jude’s play Hamlet is already in preview performances in New York, and he was photographed in New York yesterday. He’s also scheduled for a New York appearance today, so I seriously doubt he was anywhere near the Florida hospital where Samantha gave birth, or that he has any plans to take a flight down to see his fourth child. At first, People Magazine had a bitchy quote from some unnamed source about how Jude wasn’t at the birth of his fourth child, but People took it down within a few hours, replacing it with Jude’s initial statement, from when he announced Samantha’s pregnancy:

Less than two months after he acknowledged that a model he had dated was pregnant with his child, Jude Law is a father – again.

Samantha Burke, the 24-year-old aspiring actress whom Law met while filming Sherlock Holmes in New York City last year, gave birth to a 5-lb., 12-oz daughter Tuesday night.

“Samantha Burke is overwhelmed with joy at the arrival of her beautiful and healthy baby girl, Sophia,” Burke’s rep, Eileen Koch, tells PEOPLE. “The baby and mom are doing wonderful.”

Law, 36, who has three other children with ex-wife Sadie Frost, is currently appearing in a Broadway production of Hamlet, now in previews.

Law’s rep acknowledged the pregnancy in a statement released last July after reports surfaced in the media that Burke was expecting.

“Jude Law can confirm that, following a relationship last year, he has been advised that he is to be the father of a child due in the fall of this year,” the actor’s rep said. “Mr. Law is no longer in a relationship with the individual concerned but he intends to be a fully supportive part of the child’s life. This is an entirely private matter and no other statements will be made.”

While it’s not really any of my business, I do think it shows that despite the “I’m going to be involved” statements Jude has made, he really isn’t going to be part of Sophia’s life. One of Samantha’s friends told the British papers, “Besides financial support, he’s not involved.” No mention of what kind of monthly payments Jude will have to shell out, but I suspect it’s somewhere near the $10,000 a month being reported. Samantha claimed she wasn’t a golddigger, but she might as well name her daughter Sophia Cash Money. There are also reports that Samantha Burke will be selling the first pictures of little Sophia to the highest bidder – and my guess is that Jude won’t be around for the photo session, either.
