Rob Kardashian says he lost 7 lbs in a week: fishing for an endorsement?

Rob Kardashian

I generally consider it a slow news day whenever we’re covering Rob Kardashian, and this case is no exception. Mostly, I wanted to cover these ridiculous photos of Rob with Kris Jenner from Saturday evening while they promoted Rob’s latest sock line in Vegas. Because sock designing is an actual profession or something, and Rob’s line is called “Arthur George by Robert Kardashian” socks. Aren’t these the most hideous socks that you’ve ever seen in your life? They’re much worse than dirty, never washed white socks. Look at how excited Kris looks about these socks. She’ll try to sell anything!

Rob Kardashian Kris Jenner

Meanwhile, Rob has been looking to lose that extra poundage he’s been carrying around for awhile. If you’ll remember, he claimed to have gained 40 pounds in 2 months (after his messy breakup with Rita Ora), and he’s apparently trying to lose the weight as quickly as he gained it. Remember though, this is also the guy who unironically likened himself to Steve Prefontaine a few months ago, so it’s no surprise that his delusions run strong. Neverthless, Rob’s been gym tweeting, and he’s telling Us Weekly about it too:

Rob Kardashian Kris Jenner

Rob Kardashian is a man with a plan. The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” reality star has been documenting his weight loss efforts on Twitter for the past few weeks, and during his birthday party at 1OAK in Las Vegas March 15, the 26-year-old told Us Weekly about his initial results.

“I lost 5 to 7 [pounds] last week. I’m trying to lose 40,” he revealed. “It’s a little journey, but it’s good. . . I’m like 240 right now, probably 235.” Kardashian added that he hopes to reach his goal weight by July 4.

The sock designer said he packed on the pounds by eating “a lot of great food,” and now the single star is adhering to a low-carb diet. His slimdown motivation? “Beautiful women!” Kardashian admitted.

Kardashian isn’t in this alone, as he’s recruited friends to join him during his twice-daily workouts. “We go to do Runyon Canyon in L.A.,” he explained. “I’ll [exercise with] my own trainer at eight in the morning before all that.”

Dancing With the Stars pro Cheryl Burke, who was partnered with Kardashian during the ABC show’s thirteenth season in 2011, has also lent her support. “We’ve started running and doing our own little workout,” Kardashian told Us. “It’s good.”

[From Us Weekly]

Yep, you guys were totally correct. This guy must be angling for a weight-loss endorsement of some sort, but I don’t know how he’ll succeed in scoring a contract if he’s losing weight in such an unsustainable manner. Seven pounds in one week can’t be healthy (although he looks slightly slimmer than he did last month), and Rob will never be able to keep up working out twice per day after he loses the weight that he’s looking to ditch. Still, this misguided quest for a corporate endorsement is much more interesting than, you know, sock designing.

Rob Kardashian

Later Saturday evening, Rob managed to ditch Kris and celebrate his 26th birthday at the Mirage. Talk about a douche patrol crowd if there ever was one, right?

Jane Fonda admits that she does cleanses: does this make you like her less?

I freaking love Jane Fonda. It’s just a knee jerk reaction I have to her now, I’ll admit it. After she owned up to plastic surgery, talked about having sex at her age (75 now, can you believe it?!) and admitted she’s fit because she has money (in part) I was like “yeah, she’s awesome.”

Plus I used to work out with her VHS tapes back in the day, she can do leg lifts like no other. So it’s somewhat sad for me to hear that she does cleanses, but they don’t sound as extreme as other celebrities and she’s not promoting anything! (Like Goop or Salma Hayek) Jane told Hello! Magazine that she eats real food during her “cleanse” period, she just keeps it simple and whole. Here’s more, thanks to the Daily Mail. (This story came out earlier this month, but I just saw it over on Skinny vs. Curvy and it’s news to us!)

After struggling with eating disorders for most of her life, Jane Fonda says she has at last ‘made peace’ with her body.

The 75-year-old has twice-daily yoga sessions and recently went through a week-long cleansing regime, avoiding all dairy products, red meat, wheat and coffee.

However she claimed she has given up her quest for a perfect figure, saying: ‘For a woman, making peace with your body is a work in progress.

‘I have spent time in therapy, written books that have helped me heal – as well as helped others.

‘For me, healing meant understanding that “good enough” is good. We don’t have to be perfect.’

The actress, who won Oscars for her roles in the 1971 movie Klute and Coming Home in 1978, took on the role of fitness guru in 1982 with the release of an aerobics tutorial which became the most successful fitness video of all time.

But she later revealed she had suffered eating disorders from the age of 12, veering between a series of food binges and purges.

Although she was spotted tucking into a greasy cheeseburger at an Oscars after-party, she insisted she is still devoted to healthy eating.

‘I started the year with a week-long cleanse – no coffee, dairy, red meat or wheat,’ she told Hello! magazine.

‘Instead I had lots of juices, vegetables, chicken and fish, oats, beans and cleansing teas.

‘I’m still basically eating that way now, and will probably never go back to coffee. I eat fish, especially salmon and tuna, three times a week. This is really good for older people.’

Miss Fonda recently released a yoga DVD for the elderly – her 27th fitness tutorial – with her partner Richard Perry, 70.

She said: ‘Yoga makes me feel great, alive, awake, and as we get older it’s important to stay flexible and strong, which yoga helps with.

‘I’ve had a knee and hip replacement and had major back surgery last March, so my ability to do a full lotus position, for instance, is reduced. But I do this DVD with my boyfriend and it is totally safe.’

[From The Daily Mail]

I mentioned this in one of the recent “Goop deprives her kids” posts, but my mom eats like that. She’s around 10 years younger than Fonda, and my mom went gluten free and she doesn’t eat red meat either, so I get it. She did it on her doctor’s recommendation and improved her health and lost weight.

In Jane’s case she’s still eating oats, chicken, fish and such and she’s only doing it for a week! She was seen eating a burger too as the DM mentions. It sounds very do-able and not she’s depriving herself. She’s eating solid food, she’s not subsisting on maple syrup and cayenne pepper or some powdered shakes and calling it a “cleanse.” Plus as mentioned she’s not selling us anything, she just telling us how she looks so damn great. I may try that.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck defends Goop depriving her kids of carbs: ‘do what you want’

On Wednesday Kaiser covered the story that Gwyneth Paltrow wasn’t letting her kids eat carbohydrates like bread, pasta or rice. It wasn’t just an issue of putting her kids on a gluten free diet, Goop doesn’t give them gluten-free alternatives like other flour-based products. Gwyneth writes in her upcoming cookbook that “Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains like white rice, we’re left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs.” It’s possible Gwyneth lets her family eat things like brown rice, but the way she phrases it suggests an avoidance of all carbs other than fruit possibly, although I would bet she limits that too. She also writes about that they’re all sensitive to gluten, dairy and eggs so that rules out whole wheat and a couple of other food groups. It doesn’t sound like some kind of elimination diet, it sounds like she’s forcing her food issues on them, it’s making them hungry, she knows about it and considers it a character-building experience.

Well Elisabeth Hasselbeck had some words of support for Goop – sort of. Hasselbeck has celiac disease, she’s written a book on it, and she said that many people are sensitive to gluten. Then she explains that there are plenty of gluten-free alternatives like rice, quinoa and barley that people can try. In that respect she’s much more practical than Goop and she’s not deliberately depriving her kids:

Gwyneth Paltrow’s low-carb, gluten-free family diet made headlines on March 13, making it perfect fodder for the women of The View. As co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Sherri Shepherd weighed in that same day, the recently ousted Elisabeth Hasselbeck came out in defense of the 40-year-old Oscar winner.

“I do believe that there is a growing number of people with gluten intolerance, not just celiac disease, like myself,” said Hasslebeck, who’s authored two bestselling gluten-free cookbooks. “I do think it causes inflammation in the body, whether you are celiac or gluten intolerant or not.” (People with celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein found most often in wheat, rye and barley.)

The mother of three, 35, didn’t want to debate Paltrow’s dietary decisions, as she wanted to focus on the real issue at hand. “She could do whatever the heck she wants,” Hasselbeck said of Apple and Moses’ mom, who is married to Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. “She’s a mom, those are her kids, do what you want.” (In Paltrow’s new cookbook, It’s All Good: Delicious, Easy Recipes That Will Make You Look Good and Feel Great, the star writes, “Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains like white rice, we’re left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs.”)

Hasselbeck continued, “I do believe that there are quality carbs that can replace gluten, like a quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, rice, corn, all those things . . . They’re alternative grains that provide a great amount of nutrition. You need quality carbs. Kids need quality carbohydrates to run.”

Since being forced to modify her diet, Hasselbeck said she’s noticed a significant improvement in her overall health. “I’ve been on the diet for 10 years,” she explained. “I’ve never felt better.”

[From US Weekly]

My son is very sensitive to what he eats, and we put him on an elimination diet a while ago. It was temporary and in no way did I not let him eat carbs. I try to feed him healthy, whole foods overall, and he ate carbs like rice and oatmeal until we figured out that high fructose corn syrup and corn products did not sit right with him. Now he eats gluten again. I also understand going gluten free when you’re just sensitive to it or suspect you are. My mom went gluten free and she ended up losing weight without even trying. Her doctor suggested it, she did it and feels great now.

All of that, and what Elisabeth suggests – using gluten-free substitutes, is much different than what Goop is doing to her kids. She eliminated entire food groups, not just gluten. I mean they can’t go out for an occasional ice cream treat, (just give them Lactaid if you’re worried about it for God’s sake) and they can’t eat the cake at a friend’s birthday party. This goes beyond feeding your children in a healthy balanced way and trying to help them avoid junk, which is perfectly understandable. This is a woman who values thinness above all else pushing her extreme issues around food and eating onto her children. As Kaiser wrote, it’s not fair. It’s one thing for Paltrow to try and market her restrictive diet to grown adults with free will, it’s another for her to make her growing kids eat like that until they’re “left with that specific hunger.” She doesn’t care if they’re hungry, you know? I couldn’t do that to my kid. Then again this woman named her kid “Apple.”

Gwyneth and her kids, Apple and Moses, are shown out in 2011 (sundress) and in October 2012 (white shirts). Elisabeth Hasselbeck is shown on 4-14-13. Credit: Fame, WENN and PacificCoastNews

Gwyneth Paltrow won’t let her children eat bread, pasta, rice, dairy or eggs

Am I alone in not wanting Gwyneth Paltrow’s life whatsoever? Like, Gwyneth thinks that everything about her life is so aspirational to all of the peasants, but in truth, I don’t want to be her at all. It’s too much work to be Gwyneth. All of that patronizing and condescension, the crap that she has to put up with from her husband, the extreme dieting and extreme workouts, the try-hard “singing career”, and on and on. Gwyneth exhausts me and I’m just a casual observer. I imagine her life is terrible (when compared to mine – I get to eat ice cream whenever I want).

Anyway, I was just thinking about how much I didn’t want to be Gwyneth while I was reading this completely asinine story about her latest cook book. Apparently, some early excerpts from the book have come out, and Gwyneth is SO SMUG about being so terribly vitamin deficient and she’s proud of passing on her crazy food issues to her children. She’s an awful human being.

She has tried the macrobiotic diet, the kale and lemon cleanse and only eating salad for days on end. But now Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted that she has begun inflicting her obsessions with food on her own children – by starving them of carbohydrates. Miss Paltrow, 40, said that that she avoids feeding pasta, bread or rice to Apple, eight, and Moses, six, because it is bad for them, even though they are left ‘craving’ the food.

Her decision was based on the fact that everyone in her house – including husband Chris Martin – is supposedly intolerant of gluten, dairy and chicken’s eggs. Miss Paltrow’s comments are an admission that her habit of going for the latest fad diet is filtering down to how she behaves as a mother. She has in the past told how she snacks on almonds when she is hungry rather than cave in and have a proper meal. She spent her 20s on the macrobiotic diet during which time she ate mostly vegetables and beans and chewed her food more thoroughly than usual.

In her new cookbook, called ‘It’s All Good,’ which is released next month, Miss Paltrow devotes an entire chapter to grains but is deeply skeptical about them.

She writes: ‘Every single nutritionist, doctor and health-conscious person I have ever come across . . . seems to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system and many of us are at best intolerant of it and at worst allergic to it. Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains like white rice, we’re left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs’.

Miss Paltrow, who won an Oscar in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love, added that Mr Martin, 36, the singer with the band Coldplay, and their children are all intolerant to ‘many other surprising foods’ – but her claim was met with skepticism by experts.

London-based public health nutritionist Yvonne Wake said Miss Paltrow was being ‘foolish’ and that she could be doing her children harm. She said: ‘I think it’s not a good idea, especially because her children are thin – I’ve seen pictures of them.

‘Kids need carbohydrate because it gives them glycogen which keeps your brain going. Without it they won’t be able to think straight as their brain won’t be functioning and their thinking patterns will be slow. It’s like when kids don’t have any breakfast – they will do less well at school and won’t be able to run around with the other children’.

Dr Carina Norris, a registered nutritionist, added: ‘Far too many people self-diagnose themselves with allergies, or cut out wheat to lose weight, or because they think it’s bad for them. Not only are they making their lives difficult, cutting out such an important food group shouldn’t be done without the advice of a medical professional, as it could put them at risk of nutrient deficiencies.’

In the new book Gwyneth describes the moment she thought she had a stroke. The ‘Iron Man’ actress sought medical advice when she suddenly fell ill at her London home in 2011 while serving lunch to friends, and despite her fears, she was found to have been stricken with a migraine and panic attack.

She wrote in her new cook book: ‘One sunny afternoon in London, in the spring of 2011, I thought – without sounding overly dramatic – that I was going to die. I had just served lunch in the garden at home… I had a vague feeling that I was going to faint, and I wasn’t forming thoughts correctly… I got a searing pain in my head, I couldn’t speak, and I felt as if I couldn’t breathe. I thought I was having a stroke.’

The 40-year-old actress – who has children Apple, eight, and Moses, six, with husband Chris Martin – was also found to be severely anaemic and vitamin D deficient, so had to overhaul her diet, cutting out coffee, eggs, sugar, shellfish, potatoes, wheat and meat.

Her health scare prompted herself and her family to undergo food allergy testing. Miss Paltrow’s previous cooking book, ‘My Father’s Daughter: Delicious, Easy Recipes Celebrating Family and Togetherness’ detailed more of her curious food obsessions. For a refreshing drink she turns to a juice made of kale, lemon juice, water, vitamins and natural sweetener agave.

Miss Paltrow, who writes a food and lifestyle blog, claimed that this drink, coupled with five 45-minute workouts each week taught to her by celebrity fitness trainer Tracy Anderson, had left in the best condition of her life.

[From The Mail]

FOR THE LOVE OF GOOP. Jesus. Seriously, I know I’m not one of Gwyneth’s fancy nutritionists (and seriously, it sounds like she goes nutritionist-shopping the same way a Vicodin addict goes doctor-shopping), but whatever happened to “you can have almost anything in moderation”? You can have a steak, just don’t eat one every day. You can have pasta, just don’t eat a mountain of it. You can have a cup of coffee because you’ll fall asleep if you don’t. And I still don’t understand how Goop gets diagnosed with anemia and vitamin D deficiency and then goes on to cut out eggs, potatoes, wheat AND MEAT. And I don’t understand how Gwyneth has some kind of mind-block on how she got to be so unhealthy (to the point where she felt like she was having a stroke!): decades of starving herself and crash diets and eating in a severely unbalanced way. And now she’s passing all of that on to her children.

Jonah Hill’s low-carb diet has given him ‘meat mouth,’ despite his hygienic ways

Jonah Hill

Although Jonah Hill has been puttering around Hollywood for several years now (thanks in large part to becoming part of Judd Apatow’s cool kid club), he very rarely makes the gossip pages. In this week’s Star, however, Jonah is making waves for a not-so-good reason. I thought Jonah was pretty great in his amusing role as a Klu Klux Klan idiot in Django Unchained, and I’m sorry to hear about the alleged after affects of his mostly-meat eating habits.

If you’ll remember, Jonah went on a major diet and lost a dramatic amount of weight shortly after he appeared alongside Brad Pitt in Moneyball. According to this week’s issue of Enquirer, Jonah is apparently so afraid to gain the weight back that he’s almost entirely cut out carbs and is basically attempting to live long term on some sort of Atkin-esque diet. As a rule, people often use low-carb diets to lose weight quickly, but those diets aren’t healthy in the long term because they’re very hard on the kidneys. In conjunction with danger to the kidneys, one side effect of cutting out carbs is a dangerous condition called ketosis, which often causes affected people to smell like acetone. So even though the Enquirer never mentions ketosis, I suspect that this condition is part of the problem of which the tabloid speaks. Allegedly, Jonah favors meals of meat laced with onions and garlic, and it’s becoming a major problem in his social circle. Poor guy:

Jonah Hill

Jonah Hill is doing his best to watch his weight, but a low-carb diet he’s been following has left him with terrible bad breath!

Although the 29-year-old Superbad star cut back on booze and greasy food as part of a bid to get in shape, his stinkmouth — which pals say is a result of his mostly-meat meals — is driving people away.

“He has rancid breath all the time,” revealed an insider. “People have started calling him ‘meat mouth’ behind his back. The sad thing is that Johan is actually superhygienic.”

As the Enquirer previously reported, 5-foot-7 Jonah tipped the scales at well over 200 pounds but dropped 40 of them in 2011 by following a strict diet and fitness regimen. He’s since gained back some of that weight and is fighting to at least maintain where he’s at now, according to the source. It’s not unusual for low-carb, high-protein diets to make your breath stink. When the body metabolizes protein, ammonia is produced. When people eat high-protein meals, there tends to be increased ammonia in their breath and urine. In large amounts, this can smell pretty bad.

“Jonah has basically cut out carbs to keep his weight down, and the staple of his diet is meat,” the insider explained. “To add flavor, he piles on garlic and onions, so his breath is toxic! He smells like a big garlic beef ball!”

Helpful pals have pointed out the problem, and Jonah has started popping breath mints — but that hasn’t helped much.

“They make him smell like a minty garlic beef ball,” said the insider. “It’s strange because he’s a really clean guy. He takes two showers a day, and he loves cologne. He doesn’t seem to realize how bad he smells and it’s taking a toll on anyone who gets too close to him.”

[From Enquirer, print edition, March 11, 2013]

Well, I hope in addition to warning Jonah about bad breath, someone convinces him to start seeing a nutritionist instead of trying to rely upon potentially harmful fad diets. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with eating carbs, and nutritionists still say that they should make up the largest portion of one’s diet. Carbs are fine, and carbs are essential. I hope Jonah learns to not fear the carbs. He seems like such a nice, fun-loving guy.

Kate Upton did a cleanse 2 weeks per month to prepare for latest SI shoot

Kate Upton

For better or worse, Kate Upton is all the rage now in the modelling world. Here she is doing more promotion for Sports Illustrated in a very flattering white dress, and in the past several months, she’s not only covered the SI: Swimsuit edition for the second consecutive year, but she’s also been branching out into full-fledged fashion circles with Vogue UK and Vogue Italia covers and a Vogue US spread, among other endeavors. Not bad for a “curvy” girl, right?

As I’ve noted more than once, none of Kate’s success has stopped the shameful body criticism from continuing, and Kate’s polar-boob shoot has served not only to please countless men but also to reignite a lot of sniping over Kate’s atypical (for a model) bikini body. I’ve really been trying to understand the complaints about Kate’s body, but I’m coming up empty on explanations other than possibly because she has a low hip-to-waist ratio. I still think that’s wrong though, and I believe that all of this criticism is affecting her no matter what Kate says to the contrary.

Recently I was a bit surprised when Chrissy Teigen, lover of all things food, admitted going on a 10-day cleanse immediately before the latest SI: swimsuit shoot. Here’s something that’s truly shocking though — for four months prior to the same shoot, Kate adhered to a cleanse two weeks out of every month. She also worked out with a personal trainer twice a day. Seriously, there’s even a People story on this:

Kate Upton

What’s harder than posing almost naked in the freezing cold in Antarctica? Preparing to pose almost naked in the freezing cold in Antarctica.

We chatted with David Kirsch, the trainer who primed Kate Upton for her second Sports Illustrated cover, and let’s just say: Upton must be exhausted.

Kirsch began working with the supermodel back in August, and for the first two weeks, Upton met with him for sessions twice a day. From then on, the model exercised five to six days per week for one and half to two hours until the photo shoot in December.

“[She did] boot camp circuit training mixed in with cardio,” Kirsch tells PEOPLE. “Running, rowing and the elliptical.” He adds that there are six regions a model needs to focus on for an SI: Swimsuit Edition shoot: “Legs, inner thighs, hips, butt, abs and arms. Anything that shows when you’re wearing a bathing suit. Which is … everything!” (Especially when that bathing suit is as tiny as some of the ones Upton sported!)

It wasn’t just the constant sweat sessions that got Upton ready to strip down; she was also extremely careful about what she ate. “She followed my ABC’s – no alcohol, bread or processed carbs – and no sugar – 24/7 with no cheat days,” the trainer reveals.

Along with not eating pasta, pizza, candy or apparently anything else that tastes delicious, Upton did Kirsch’s seven-day cleanse for two weeks out of every month they worked together. And during the other two weeks? She regularly drank protein shakes and green drinks to stay energized.

Despite all that, Kirsch says Upton didn’t complain once throughout the exhaustive process. Though, the same can’t be said about Upton while she was kneeling on an iceberg in nothing but a string bikini. But can you really blame her?

[From People]

All of that and yet still, people have the nerve to label this girl as fat. These are extreme measures for sure — maybe not for a model in general but definitely for one who is being held up as more “normal” looking than the rest of them. The simple fact that Kate was willing to cleanse for 50% of her life for four months and also workout twice per day tells me that even this “healthy” girl has an unavoidably unhealthy outlook on food. And I’m afraid with all this criticism that she’s only going to get more obsessive as her career progresses.

In other Kate-related news, Upton has just been been revealed as the face of high street retailer Accessorize. Here are the first images from her spring/summer 2013 campaign. Especially in the swimsuit shots, she looks like she’s dropped a few pounds since the SI shoot, doesn’t she?

Chrissy Teigen admits to preparing for SI swimsuit shoots w/ 10-day juice fasts

Chrissy Teigen

My favorite model will forever be the elusive Kate Moss, but I can easily accept that Kate might be enigmatic yet doesn’t have much of a personality. That’s one of the reasons why Kate, historically, hasn’t done many interviews — because she’s not really witty or funny, and hearing from her all the time might just have ruined her career. Poor Kate, I still love her though.

In sharp contrast, Chrissy Teigen (if you don’t know who she is, check this year’s Sports Illustrated: Swimsuit edition) has got to be the funniest model around. I’m consistently giggling up a storm at her tweets, and I think she’s secretly the biggest troll that Twitter has ever known. She’s forever picking fights with Chris Brown’s “Team Breezy” fans, and I felt kind of bad that I laughed so hard when she tweeted about waking up her fiance, John Legend, from a nap to tell him that Cher was dead. He got really sad and went back to sleep, and she was so amused that he was sleeping while thinking Cher was dead. It was only funny because Cher isn’t dead. Ahh, never mind.

Anyway, Chrissy is one of those rare, atypical models who will confess to loving food and eating it on a regular basis. She’s also a trained chef and has a food blog called So Delushious … although she hasn’t blogged in about a month, and the “week of Ramen” (the really good Tokyo stuff) at the top of the page makes me hungry every time I look at it. She also has a brand new show on the Cooking Channel that premieres tonight. The show will follow her (and John) as she plans her wedding menu and as “becomes one with her surroundings” in the Smoky Mountain foothills. Lots of food will be had.

It’s not all fun and games though. Chrissy has recently admitted that she lives to eat and hates dieting, but whenever she has a swimsuit shoot coming up (and she’s been featured in SI for several consecutive years now), she goes on a week-long juice fast. This is somewhat similar to Adriana Lima’s admission to a very hardcore liquid diet (which she later tried to retract) while preparing for the annual Victoria’s Secret fashion show. Surely, Chrissy is consulting with a nutritionist for her own liquid diet (and she admits to “cheating” with some solid raw food), but this is still somewhat shocking to hear from a woman who talks about food every day, all day long:

Chrissy Teigen

Sports Illustrated model and food lover Chrissy Teigen has revealed how she very reluctantly prepares for her “daunting” bikini shoots.

The 27-year-old, who is set to marry John Legend, explained to Cooking Channel TV that she hates dieting “so much I can barely explain without getting angry, but I don’t walk onto the set of a swimsuit shoot without having that whole week prior being a pretty strict regimen.”

She doesn’t elaborate on what the “strict regimen” is, but her Twitter feed and food blog indicate that juice cleanses are behind her swimsuit-ready physique. On December 11, the brunette tweeted a photograph of a large pan of mussels captioned with the description: “Served with bok choy and thai sea bass. Now we say goodbye to food and hello to juice for 1 week!”

Miss Teigen also goes into juice cleansing in more detail on her blog So Delushious! She wrote last October: “It’s honestly not something I push and advocate for, nor do I want to lose all credibility as someone who LOVES food. Trust me, I already got the, ‘you write a food blog and you don’t even eat’ sh-t.

“Would I EVER do a 10-day juice cleanse if I didn’t have to be in a bikini… sometimes only half a bikini… in highly circulated magazines? Holy sh-t, NO. I love my body. Well, I love my in-clothes body. Loving your bikini bod is a whole other ball game. And getting in a bikini when you just completed 3 weeks of not just eating but FEASTING every single day is a little daunting to say the least.”

When she eats a lot she doesn’t put weight on in the right places. “Skinny legs. Skinny (untoned) arms. And a poof in the belly,” she explains.

To gear up for modeling assignments she says that she opts for the ten-day Blueprint moderate cleanse, which consists of three green juices a day, one spicy lemonade, one pineapple, and one cashew milk drink.

“The Blueprint cleanse is great because it provides all-around nourishment. You are consuming around 20 pounds of fruits and vegetables (well however much juice that would make at least) every single day,” Miss Teigen writes.

“I made the decision last night… I would allow small amounts of raw nuts, raw veg, a couple pieces of sashimi in moments of real hunger, avocado. That’s. All. I needed to make the adjustments necessary to keep meeee happy.” She later writes that she was unable to sleep properly because she “missed the feeling of going to bed with a full, heavy belly. That feeling is soothing to me.”

[From Daily Mail]

Let me just say upfront that I know there are a lot of people who advocate the cleansing effects of an occasional juice diet, but there’s no way in hell that I could ever not eat solids for over a week. Even after having my wisdom teeth pulled, I was crawling the walls after two days of nothing but yogurt and applesauce. However, I can understand that there are certain pressures of being a model, and one who models swimsuits must certainly (at least on occasion) go to great lengths to maintain such a figure. When I look at Chrissy’s bodypaint shots from this year’s SI though, I just envy the elasticity of her boobs. She’s so gorgeous, and she’s so real.

Emmy Rossum works out constantly: ‘I think you should just do something every day’

I don’t really have an opinion of Emmy Rossum. She seems saccharine but harmless, and while I would never have considered her a “good” actress, she’s getting better-than-average reviews on Shameless, and she’s built a decent career for herself. So that was how I came into Emmy’s Self Magazine cover interview – I thought she was sweet and harmless and somewhat “normal”. But I was sort of taken aback by Emmy’s dieting and workout discussion. I mean, it’s Self so of course their cover star is going to be talking about diet and exercise, but I don’t really get Emmy’s system…?

Her favorite workouts: “I like Physique 57, Burn 60 and SoulCycle or Flywheel, because I get positive energy from the people around me. You just can’t be the slacker. And I raise my hand like an idiot whenever the instructor asks if anyone is new to the class. I’m, like, ‘Yep, I’m the loser who hasn’t been here before.’ At least I’m not going to screw myself up by doing it wrong!”

Her quickie weight-loss workout: “When I want to drop weight quickly, I cut back on my cardio and do a lot of weights instead. It’s counterintuitive, because you would think, I should stay on the treadmill for five hours. I also cut out all fruit and eat a lot of protein and vegetables. My go-to moves are walking lunges, leg raises and my favorite: four sets of 15 ballet pliés, holding 8-pound weights.”

She exercises every day: “If I’ve had a meh workout the day before, and I’m still not feeling it, then I’ll do another meh one that day, too. I think you should just do something every day.”

Her longterm goal: “I don’t want to do the Ironman or run 10 miles, but I do want to go up into space one day. It costs [hundreds of thousands] right now, but I hope eventually it will be $500. And I want to make sure my heart is fit enough to handle the trip when I’m 50.”

Her version of “chaos”: “I don’t always make my bed. If my life is in a state of chaos, then I have to make it. But if I’m happy in my life, then I’m OK leaving a little chaos in my house.”

She has cheat days on her diet: “When I was filming Beautiful Creatures, I ate 1,500 calories a day—nutritionist Carrie Wiatt sent me meals from L.A. But I also gave myself two cheat days a week. I’d eat a steak and fries, an ice cream sundae and then go to Pinkberry. Of course, then I’d wake up the next morning and go, ‘Oh, great, I’m eating one poached egg and a green apple. Shoot me in the face.’ But it was totally worth it. Now I can gain back those 6 pounds that I had lost to do the movie.”

She was raised on a macrobiotic diet: “I was raised on a macrobiotic diet, so I was more interested in eating the junk food that other kids were eating, although I’d have to make sure my mom didn’t know. My mom has never owned a saltshaker. Now I have to sneak these contraband little salt packets from take-out restaurants into her house so that I can salt my food.”

Know your limits: “I’m not going to wake up like Gisele tomorrow. That’s just not going to happen. She’s a genetic freak—and stunning. I’m a human being. I’m fit because I make it a priority and it’s part of my job. I also try to stay confident, so 5 pounds up or down doesn’t affect my brain.”

Must love animals: “I don’t like a guy if he doesn’t like my animals. I have a dog, Cinnamon, and a cat.”

She likes where she is right now: “Right now I’m probably in the best shape that I’ve ever been in, although I don’t consider ‘best shape’ to necessarily mean the skinniest. I’ve been fatter and I’ve been skinnier than I am right now, but I’m more at peace than ever.”

Does anyone else think Emmy might benefit from hiring a trainer who actually knows what they’re doing? It seems like Emmy’s system is half-okay – she’s mixing it up, she’s doing different things, she’s working out different ways and different parts of her body, which is great. But I was always taught that it’s important to let your body have a proper rest, and the idea should be to NOT work out every day. And the best way to be fit and strong is to weight train AND do cardio, and it’s weird that she would lose weight just by weight training. Also – I think that being raised on a macrobiotic diet has really messed up her relationship with food as an adult, which is what I always say about Gwyneth Paltrow’s kids too. Gwyneth is basically pushing her severe food issues onto her children and it will affect their relationship to food into adulthood. Apple Martin will become like Emmy Rossum.

Mariah Carey’s diet trick: she eats only purple foods, three days a week

Here’s a funny reminder that Mariah Carey isn’t just a diva when it comes to her job – she’s committed to being a diva in all aspects of her life, including her diet. Star Magazine (I know) reports that Mariah stays slim by eating only foods that are purple three days a week. (Do Nerds, Skittles and Laffy Taffy count? Nick and Mariah have an entire candy room in their house that’s set up like a store at the mall. I’m not kidding, Nick gave PopSugar a tour.)

Mariah Carey may love wearing the color pink, but she’s eating only purple! The diva has thrown herself into a new diet: three days a week, she eats purple foods like plums, grapes and eggplants – and is already loving the results. “They say a plum a day keeps the face-lifts away, and Mariah’s loving her sexy new shape,” and insider tells Star. Mariah herself admits that she needs to get creative with slimming down. “Since having the babies, I realize that 90 percent of losing weight is my diet.” Do purple skittles count?

[From Star Magazine, print edition, January 21, 2013]

Years ago I saw a nutritionist on Oprah explaining that purple foods have the most phytonutrients or something, and that when you shop you should strive to get colorful fruits and vegetables for that reason. It sounds like a quack way to diet, but if it works for Mariah that’s all that matters I guess. She’s probably getting enough nutrients and protein if she only eats that way three days a week.

Mariah is also a strong proponent of the Photoshop diet, as evidenced by this latest bikini photo she’s released to the press. We posted this yesterday, but let’s revisit it.

Anne Hathaway reveals how she lost 25 lbs for ‘Les Mis’: ‘I just had to stop eating’

Anne Hathaway Hugh Jackman

Anne Hathaway’s Oscar campaign for Les Miserables has begun in earnest even though it’s already been fairly evident during her recent interviews that she’s been ramping up for the inevitable weight-loss discussion. Kaiser totally it called during a discussion of Anne’s Access Hollywood interview when she said Anne was saving the big stuff for a better outlet. Now, the moment has arrived in a new Hollywood Reporter interview where Anne begins to reveal more than just cursory details of oatmeal paste. It’s almost amusing how she’s rationing her Oscar-baited goods, so to speak, isn’t it? Here we go:

Anne Hathaway

Anne on securing her role: “There was resistance because I was between their ideal ages for the parts — maybe not mature enough for Fantine but past the point where I could believably play Cosette [Fantine's daughter, later embodied by Seyfried]. And I did what I do when I really want a role: I got fiery and told my agent, ‘Just get me in the room.’”

Anne on her weight loss: She immersed herself in the role, hiring a researcher who led her to books on sexual slavery and losing weight in two stages (she lost 10 pounds over three weeks before the shoot and an extra 15 pounds during production as her character degenerated). “I just had to stop eating,” she says, “all for a total of 13 days’ shooting.”

Hugh lost some weight (and gained) some weight too! Jackman also had to shed weight to portray the gaunt convict seen at the film’s beginning — he dropped 15 pounds before bingeing and adding 30 more to mirror Valjean’s burgeoning success. “I was eating anything I could,” he says. “If ever there are any outtakes, there’s a lot of me burping.”

Hugh on the tough shoot: After a skeletal crew was sent to Gourdon in France to shoot Jackman wandering the mountains, filming shifted to England and the British coast, where a massive early sequence takes place with scores of convicts dragging a ship into port while being doused with waves. “It was 12 degrees, and the water was coming straight off the ocean,” sighs Jackman. “We were there for three days.”

[From Hollywood Reporter]

Hugh doesn’t really seem to be pushing for an Oscar, does he? He’s gained and lost weight for roles before, so this is really old hat for him. I think he’d be fine with winning an award, but it’s not his thing to worry about if and when it happens. Some actors are like that, and I think I’d prefer to be of that mindset than losing self respect just for a gold-plated statuette. Then again, I usually enjoy watching actors dole out the dish in an effort to win votes from The Academy, so there’s that.

Here are a few photos of Anne in London ahead of the Les Miserables premiere. Jeans and flowers suit her much more than that dreadful premiere dress.
