Claire Danes on falling for Billy Crudup: it was a choice made with integrity

bbcover-september-2009

Last week, Jaybird covered an early excerpt from Claire Danes’ interview with BlackBook Magazine. The excerpt seemed to show Claire in an unpleasant light as she waxed philosophical about how “we just can’t shake monogamy… It definitely demands a kind of rigor and discipline and selflessness.” Coming from the young woman who dumped Ben Lee to have an affair/relationship with Billy Crudup (who was with the then-seven-months pregnant Mary Louise Parker) and then dump/cheat on Billy for current squeeze/fiancée Hugh Dancy, well, it all seemed a bit rich. And by “rich” I mean “hypocritical asinine bullsh-t”. It gets worse, though. Because now the complete interview is out, and Claire seems so far stuck up her own ass, she’s giving Dame Gwyneth Paltrow a run for her goopiness.

Claire answers questions about her relationship with Billy Crudup, and she uses words like “choice” and “integrity”. She whines about how the controversy that relationship caused was “unavoidable”. As in, she couldn’t avoid his wang? When she tries to explain how she feels knowing Hugh Dancy is The One, she says “I can apply myself in other ways now. I have more time and energy to get sh-t done.” Because her schedule was so grueling what with all the homewrecking? What? Too much? Here’s more from the interview:

Anyone versed in tabloid culture knows the strength of will she had to summon to endure the scrutiny she came under when Billy Crudup left a seven-months pregnant Mary-Louise Parker for Danes. The pair began dating after they met on the set of 2004’s Stage Beauty. “That was a choice I made to fall in love. It’s unpleasant to be cast in such an unflattering role, but I just had to remain steadfast,” she recalls, her body language going into self-protection mode with an arm cradling her hunched-over frame and crossed legs.

“I was living with the same kind of integrity that I had always lived with. As a public person you’re serving a certain function, and you’re a canvas for people to project their own hopes and fears onto, so you do have to perform a kind of mental trick and distance yourself from it. But there are times of weakness in which you wonder if what they wrote is relevant to you or representative of you.”

How much of that has stayed with her? “Not very much. I never really took too much of it on. It’s nice not to be ridiculed—nobody wants that—but it’s also unavoidable. Everyone gets the stick.” But all the rumors now seem a distant memory for Danes, who is set to wed British actor Hugh Dancy, whom she met on the set of Evening in 2006. The pair will exchange their vows in mid-September in a ceremony to be held in France.

While she’s had several serious relationships in the past—she dated Australian indie-pop star Ben Lee for six years and was with Crudup for two, just prior to Dancy—marriage, she says, was never something for which she yearned. “I’ve always wanted to be in a partnership, I’ve always wanted to have that kind of intimacy and collaborate with someone in such a deep way. But I think that can be achieved in a lot of ways. I was talking to my friend recently about monogamy—is it feasible, is it realistic? I resolved that there isn’t really a better model. We just can’t shake monogamy. It definitely demands a kind of rigor and discipline and selflessness. But it’s also fun.”

Particularly when you’ve got a former Burberry model in your bed. “He’s such a cutie patootie,” she says about her fiancé, a twinkle in her bright green eyes. “Sometimes I forget just how good-looking he is.”

When asked how she knew Dancy was the one, Danes hesitates. “I’m going into dangerous territory,” she says, and then relents, proceeding with caution. “While relationships are work, this just didn’t feel like it. It’s the kind of work that feels energizing rather than enervating.”

“There’s that pledge, and people talk about it being claustrophobic but I find it the opposite. I find it very freeing to know that, okay, it takes constant nurturing and attention, but I can also stop looking for the one—that’s established. I can apply myself in other ways now. I have more time and energy to get sh-t done.”

For her wedding day, she turned to Narciso Rodriguez. She describes the process as “surprisingly emotional. I’ve known Narciso since I was 16, and he’s made a lot of dresses with—and for—me. So it’s really special that this time it’s the dress.”

[From BlackBook Magazine]

What’s strange is that the part that pissed me off the most was when she describes asking renowned fashion designer Narciso Rodriguez to make her wedding dress. Claire says: “He’s made a lot of dresses with—and for—me.” With you? Bitch, please. He made dresses for you, and you didn’t even look that good in them. While I had always been on Team Mary Louise Parker, I had generally given Claire a pass, favoring to just hate on Billy Crudup. But now I get it. Claire is just as bad. And then some.

Billy Crudup happy with his bulging CGI package

2009_watchmen_020
Even though I’ve never really cared about the comic book movies, I kind of want to see Watchmen. It looks dark and interesting, though it’s getting terrible reviews, and the fanboys are revolting. Earlier this week, other sites were reporting on a recent Sun interview given by British actor Matthew Goode, who plays Andrew Veidt/Ozymandias in Watchmen. Goode was asked about the fanboy revolt, and he told them that “if fanboys still hate the film after going and seeing it, they can all line up and suck my d–k. I don’t give a f–k. I’m having a child and that’s more important to me – so I don’t give a f–k. Grow a d–k.” Incredible.

Billy Crudup, who plays Dr. Manhattan, is taking a decidedly more proactive approach to his Watchmen promotional duties. The character of Dr. Manhattan is very large and very blue, and this was achieved by some big-time CGI. Billy Crudup is now talking about how happy he is with his CGI package. OK! Magazine has more:

In Watchmen, Billy Crudup’s character, Dr. Manhattan, basically bares it all, as a glowing, blue, totally naked superhero. So the question just has to be asked: Was the star actually walking around set in the buff to get into his part?

“I am naked often, but was not naked that I recall during filming,” he reveals in a new interview with Parade. “I wore a pair of what were pretty elaborate pajamas and they were studded with about 1,200 blue LED’s so that Dr. Manhattan would glow blue. There were also motion capture electrodes on my body and I had over a hundred on my face. They all sent data into a computer that really created the Dr. Manhattan you see on the screen. My performance was basically just laying the groundwork for the CGI.”

As for that in your face nakedness, Billy says he got teased a little bit about the endowment Dr. Manhattan sports during the flick.

“I’m not saying how much the computer helped. Actually, I didn’t fully expect the interest that Dr. Manhattan’s genitalia has received. But I understood his motivation for baring it all,” he says. “Why would the guy with all this power really care about a uniform? He doesn’t need to obey society’s constraints because, if he wanted to, he could destroy society. So I think he kind of feels like, ‘You know what? I enjoy a good breeze on my private parts.’ “

From OK! Magazine

I’m always surprised at the work Billy Crudup gets offered and accepts. By all calculations, his career should have been destroyed after leaving his long-term girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker when she was seven months pregnant. But instead Billy turned to stage work and small, significant film roles. It’s surprising to see him in a big effects-laden comic-book film. I’ve seen the Dr. Manhattan in the Watchmen trailer, and I have to say, those CGI people gave Billy an extremely well-built body. Yep, I’m attracted to a big, blue CGI creation. So sad for me.

Thanks to Allmoviephoto for these stills from Watchmen.

Mary-Louise Parker Adopts

marylouiseparker.jpg
Weeds star Mary-Louise Parker has adopted a baby girl from Africa, a younger sibling for her three-year-old son William.

Parker, who was nominated for two Emmy awards Sunday night, was spotted with her new daughter over the weekend as they travelled to the show.

“Mary-Louise is such an incredible mom,” says a source. “She couldn’t be happier about this.”

The actress’s reps declined to reveal any more information about the adoption.

People

In case we’d all forgotten, Billy Crudup, then aged 36, dumped his partner of eight years for Claire Danes aged 25, when Mary-Louise Parker was seven months pregnant. Three years later Claire Danes cheated on him with co-star Hugh Dancy. Living well is the best revenge for Mary-Louise, and she’s starring in a hit show and adopting a baby, while Billy’s last significant role was in The Good Shepherd.

Hopefully Mary-Louise hasn’t adopted the baby from Malawi, as I’m not sure what investigating officials might think of her starring on a show called Weeds about a pot dealing mom. Madonna’s most dubious exploits are in the past!

Congratulations Mary-Louise Parker and big brother William!

Claire Danes and Billy Crudup: what comes around

Hugh Dancy and Claire Danes

Claire Danes is a prime example of the old adage “If they did it with you, they’ll do it to you.” She hooked up with Billy Crudup on a movie set while he was with seven months-pregnant actress Mary Louise Parker and she was with adoring Australian singer Ben Lee. These two cheaters set up house together, but then Danes cheated on Crudup three years later - predictably with one of her co-cast members, Hugh Dancy:

The handsome British actor [Hugh Dancy] is “the other man” in the Claire Danes/Billy Crudup breakup - although some might be surprised he hooked up with her and not him.

An eyewitness says Danes and Dancy got together Nov. 2, a month before the split with Billy.

According to the source, they shared a bed “with the door two feet ajar, and everybody listening” in his suite at the swanky hotel where the cast was staying while filming “Evening” in Newport, R.I.

But horny Hugh didn’t limit his attention to the ladies.

“The cast was pretty much drunk every night,” says the snitch. “Hugh also made out with [screenwriter] Michael Cunningham in the lobby.”

Plus, he was seen snogging the gay hotel manager, who lost his job.

So I guess this guy Hugh Dancy swings both ways. It seems like Danes has a type. Dancy has some superficial features in common with Ben Lee, Danes’ boyfriend of 7 years before she left him for Crudup. Crudup, Lee, and Dancy are all moderately good looking brunette guys.

From all reports, Mary Louise Parker handled Crudup’s incredible insensitivity well, and even went out of her way to let his family members see their baby after he ditched her. Now I guess Crudup knows how it feels to be cheated on. What comes around.

Claire Danes and Billy Crudup broke up for the holidays

Claire Danes and Billy Crudup both ditched their partners of seven years to shack up together after they met while filming the movie Stage Beauty in London. Most people disapproved of their relationship because Crudup’s longterm girlfriend, actress Mary Louise Parker, was seven months pregnant when he left her. Now the word is that these two cheaters have ended their three year relationship.

Acting couple Claire Danes and Billy Crudup have reportedly ended their three-year romance after splitting just before Christmas (06).

American publication In Touch reports the romance went sour when Danes started talking about marriage.

The couple hooked up in 2003 after Crudup left his heavily pregnant girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker to court the Shopgirl star.

What a shame. Billy Crudup plays an evil bastard in the super-boring Good Shepherd and has the movie Dedication coming out next year. Claire Danes has three films coming out in 2007 after a brief hiatus in 2006.
