Rachel McAdams, bangsy at ‘The Vow’ premiere: the worst she’s ever looked?

I’ve always thought that Rachel McAdams was adorable. She’s super-cute, and she’s one of those girl-women that will easily be able to play young(er) characters because of her inherent “cuteness”. When she’s 40, people will still think she’s in her 20s, and she’ll always have fans because she seems so “real” and like the cool girl who could be your neighbor. So it pains me to say this – Rachel McAdams doesn’t know her own strengths, and she just torpedoed herself by styling herself like a 50-something Real Housewife. With that adorable, dimply face, with that great bone structure and that girl-next-door sex appeal, WHY in God’s name did Rachel do this to her hair? It’s not just the too-thick, too-long BANGS TRAUMA (full-on), it’s also the cheap looking dye job, the horrible makeup, and the budget-looking Vivienne Westwood dress (that washes her out). Jesus, Rachel. Why did you do this to yourself?

So these are photos of The Vow premiere in LA last night. Maybe The Vow will be a hit movie for Rachel – even though it looks sappy and terrible, I suspect lots of women want to see it. Rachel’s career choices are weird/bad enough – but does she have to do this to her personal, celebrity image too? God, she just looks like hell. She never really “wows” me on the red carpet, but some really good stylists need to offer Rachel their services.

Meanwhile, Channing Tatum looked fine. His wife Jenna was at his side too – I didn’t care for her dress either (it looks like a reconfigured Victoria’s Secret baby doll), but at least her styling doesn’t make me want to cry and scream to the heavens.

Channing Tatum pranked Rachel McAdams with a prosthetic “pee pee” on set

ET Online has interviews (you can watch the videos here, the embed wasn’t working right) with the stars of the upcoming romantic amnesia movie, The Vow. It’s about a young wife (Rachel McAdams) who suffers amnesia after a car accident and has to get to know, and date, her husband (Channing Tatum) all over again. It opens February 10 and it definitely looks cheesy but I’ll probably see it with my best friend at the movies. I not-so-secretly loved Dear John, and while you know exactly what to expect with these type of movies I still enjoy seeing a good romantic film. (Note: I assumed this was based off a Nicholas Sparks book, but it’s not, it’s roughly based on a real story.) Plus Channing Tatum is just so nice to watch and he’s old enough that I don’t feel guilty finding him hot.

The best story that Channing told on ET is about how he pranked Rachel McAdams by having a prosthetic dick made and surprising her with it during a scene. Channing was characteristically low key when he described this story, and then the interview cut to a segment with Rachel, in which she explains that he planned the prank a full month in advance with the props department. What’s more is that Rachel’s genuine reaction to the prop peen was captured on camera and will be used in the movie. (Probably when her character sees her husband naked for the first time. I would say spoiler, but come on, we all know the ending.)

Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams must rediscover love after an accident causes Rachel’s character to lose her memory in The Vow, and Channing tells ET that he decided to pull a practical joke on her during a nude scene!

“I did have a stunt pee pee that I had made for her for her reaction,” says Channing of the scene in which Rachel is surprised by her naked co-star walking into their bedroom. “It was a little prank that I pulled on her. It’s in the movie – her reaction was spot on. I didn’t have a lot of faith in her reaction because it was cold that day, and I didn’t want her to be laughing and pointing. I wanted her to be shocked.”

“A prosthetic, yes, that’s all true,” says Rachel with a laugh, recounting how Channing went to the prop department ahead of time to fabricate “a piece to terrify Rachel with.” She adds, “But it was great because I didn’t have to pretend … it was funny and got a genuine reaction out of me.”

Channing adds, “I’m not shy about being naked, obviously, as you can see in most of my movies.”

[From ET Online]

I would say this is creepy, but it sounds like it was called for in the scene and like she’s fine with it. It obviously lead to a good reaction for the shot.

Later in the interview, they ask Channing for a moment in his life that he never wants to forget, and he tells the story about how he first said “I love you” to his wife, Jenna Dewan, in an offhand way and got really embarrassed. I thought this story was so adorable and you could see how much he loves her.

On being romantic
“I don’t think it’s that hard to show someone that you care. To come in and be like ‘how as your day?’ Make it about them. Do something cute… draw a picture or a story and put it in her purse or something.”

On the moment he never wants to forget
“The first time that I accidentally told her that I loved her I didn’t mean to. I was on the phone with her, I was like ‘alright cool, love you… that’s awkward I’m going to hang up now.’”

Jenna and Channing are great together and I hope they make it last for a very long time. I also hope this movie is somewhat decent and does well at the box office. Both the leads are just so damn likable.

Update: I just saw this story on Buzz Sugar that Channing Tatum is going to host SNL this weekend for the first time. They had this preview video with Fred Armisen (below), but it doesn’t get good until the very end.

Here’s the trailer. My favorite comment on YouTube is this one “if you woke up and channing tatum said he was your husband… YOU DONT QUESTION THAT SH*T!”

Rachel McAdams & Channing Tatum’s Munich photo call: adorable or boring?

These are new photos of Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum in Munich, Germany, where I assume they were doing some kind of photo call for The Vow. Lately, more and more films have been doing this, and I kind of hate it – the film promotion begins in Europe, with a series of photo calls and premieres, all before the American premiere. Unless the actor or actress is a huge international celebrity, or the film is some hugely expensive potential blockbuster, I don’t understand why Munich gets the photo call before New York City. Can anyone explain this? It’s not even like Rachel or Channing are well-known outside of Canada and the US, either. Weird.

By the way, Rachel’s lace dress is Collette Dinnigan. I don’t hate the dress, but I really think Rachel has some issues with her color choices. She doesn’t realize when certain shades wash her out, and she’s still choosing colors like she’s a brunette – which she’s not anymore, since she’s obsessed with being a blonde these days, for whatever reason.

As for Channing and Rachel, together in The Vow… I really don’t want to see the film. But I know some ladies do. Go ahead, it’s for you. You’re supposed to want to see it so you can weep and be overcome by the sappy love story. Here’s the trailer again:

Rachel McAdams: It’s “great” that Ryan Gosling is a “feminist icon”

Rachel McAdams covers the February issue of Glamour Magazine. I can’t really say that I’m a huge fan of the cover shoot. It’s trying too hard to be “cheeky” and “cute-sexy” I think. Rachel has a natural “cuteness” and a girl-next-door sex appeal, so I don’t know why they had to take her pants off and get her to flash some ass cheek. It’s unseemly! Tut tut. Anyway, Rachel is promoting that sappy-looking The Vow, where she and Channing Tatum are love interests, sort of. Some may think that playing Channing Tatum’s love interest in a sappy girl movie is a career downturn for Rachel. They may be right, but I not on the Channing-bashing bandwagon. He’s a nice, funny, down-to-earth guy who never bad-mouths his early career choices, even when those career choices were “being a stripper in Tampa.” Plus, “Southern accent” doesn’t equal “moron”. Rachel could certainly do worse for a romantic costar. Anyway, you can read her full Glamour Q&A here, and here are some highlights:

Dyeing her hair pink: “I always wanted pink hair. I wanted to do my whole head, but my hairstylist, Robert, was like, “How about we start small?” I absolutely loved it. I still think about doing blue at some point, but I don’t like to change my hair before I’m about to do [a film]—you never know what that character’s going to be.”

Creating a character with clothes: “Yeah, I love those preliminary conversations about who a character is. You try on wigs, shoes and clothes. It’s preferable when it’s not about looking pretty. It can get a little dull to just be cute. We talk about things like, maybe my character can’t afford these Christian Louboutins. [The stylist] will say, “No one will notice.” And I’m like, “Everyone knows that red-bottom shoe!”

She’s silly: “I’m very silly as a person, but quality silliness on-screen has more of an art to it. Harrison Ford, whom I was in Morning Glory with, has mastered that dry funny better than anyone.

Mentors: “Diane Keaton, whom I’ve done two movies with. She’s a very caring and loving person. I love to listen to her stories.”

She worked at McDonald’s for three years: “Yeah, for a good three years. My sister and brother worked there. My sister was my manager! I was 16 and directing kids’ theater, which didn’t totally pay the bills. It was a great place to work, but I had a little bit of an OCD thing with hand washing and just didn’t have time. They were like, “Hey, the drive-through’s backing up. Stop washing your hands!” I was not a great employee; I broke the orange juice machine one day.”

Life outside of Hollywood: “[Paparazzi invasions do] happen, especially around the time a movie’s coming out. But I really like having a life outside work. I sometimes wish I did more career stuff and was in that Hollywood scene a bit more. But Toronto’s my home.”

Dating costars: “A set may seem like a good place for romance, but I don’t think it’s very conducive; it’s too distracting. Every relationship I’ve had with a coworker has come after the fact, because you wind up actually spending a lot of time with those people promoting the movie.”

On The Notebook: “Well, I bawled my eyes out when I got the script. It was a great story and had so much heart. But it was one of the first big things I had done, and I was just focused on getting through it. It was like, great, a job, I’ll take it.”

On Channing Tatum: “I was worried we might not [have great chemistry], because we were more like brother and sister, like buds. Channing is very outgoing, very kind and a lot of fun to work with.”

Her favorite costars: “It’s an embarrassment of riches. I love Owen [Wilson] in Midnight in Paris. He’s so endearing, and it was a completely different kind of relationship from the one we had in Wedding Crashers.”

Crushes on actors: “I loved soap operas when I was young, so Antonio Sabato Jr. and Maurice Benard from General Hospital. And who could forget Josh Brolin in The Goonies?”

GLAMOUR: I’ve heard you don’t read your press. Do you read about other people?
RACHEL MCADAMS: Not really, no.
GLAMOUR: So you’re not aware that Ryan Gosling has become a huge feminist icon?
RACHEL MCADAMS: Feminist icon? Wow! Is that real?
GLAMOUR: There are blogs upon blogs!
RACHEL MCADAMS: Oh my God, that’s great.

[Via Glamour]

I would love to know if Rachel and Ryan Gosling still talk. I would love to know what she really thinks about his Disneyland hookups and his “thing” with Eva Mendes. But hopefully, he’s not even on her radar anymore. I believe that she and Michael Sheen are happy together. And I really do think that there’s a good chance they’ll get married. I know some of you are Sheen-haters, but that man is delicious. I would take him over Gosling any day of the week.

Here’s the trailer for The Vow:

PS… I’d really love for Rachel to give up the blonde. I don’t think it does her any favors. She should do a really soft auburn.

Ryan Gosling & Eva Mendes make out in public, but she’s more into it than he is

Why do I keep forgetting that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are a couple? We have all of these convenient photos of them together, taken conveniently during their Thanksgiving holiday in Paris, and they’re conveniently starring together in an as-yet-unreleased film. Why do I keep forgetting that? Maybe it’s because Ryan has been single or single-ish for so long, and I’ve got the mindset that he’ll be taking his latest piece to Disneyland any moment now? Maybe it’s because I think Ryan isn’t so much “in love” with Eva, but he just realized that his Disneyland whore parade probably wasn’t keeping his female fan base happy? Or is Eva the one pushing this relationship? That’s what Star Mag would have us believe – they claim that Eva is totally into Gosling and he’s all “meh.”

On the menu for Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes: plenty of PDA! Golsing, 31, and Eva, 37, were simply sizzling during a dinner date at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge on Dec. 2.

“They were making out during their meal and also outside the eatery,” an observor tells Star. The passionate evening follows a lovey-dovey late-November trip to Paris. But since they’ve only been dating since September, is it all too much, too soon – for Ryan at least?

“Eva was more touchy and affectionate than Ryan,” says the observor. “He looks into her, but she seems even more into him.”

[From Star Magazine, print edition]

Sure, I’ll buy that. I think Ryan plays at the wide-eyed puppy-love stuff, but he’s probably not all that affectionate and romantic when it comes down to it. Anyway, In Touch has a story about Ryan and Eva too – apparently, Ryan’s friends don’t care for Eva, and they all hope he’ll get back with Rachel McAdams. Code Red: Ryan Gosling’s friends are all chicks who have seen The Notebook too many times.

Ryan Gosling sure seems happy with new love Eva Mendes, but it looks like his buddies aren’t quite as overjoyed. A friend tells In Touch that Ryan’s pals haven’t warmed up to Eva and hope he will rekindle his romance with Rachel McAdams, whome he dated for more than three years before they split in 2008.

They like Rachel a lot more – she was as close to Ryan’s friends as she was to Ryan himself.

“She’s fun and a fellow Canadian,” the pal says.

[From In Touch Weekly, print edition]

Yeah, I guess I’m one of the few people that actually LIKES Michael Sheen and Rachel McAdams together. I hope Rachel and Michael are solid, and I hope they get married some day soon. They seem like a “real” couple – she’s pretty and family-oriented, he’s intelligent and eccentric and talented. Sorry, Notebook-fiends, but I prefer Rachel with Michael. It seems like an adult relationship, as opposed to whatever boy-drama Ryan has going on.

Noomi Rapace in Valentino at the ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′ premiere: lovely or fug?

Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows premiered last night in LA. Jude Law/Dr. Watson was not in attendance, which is disappointing. For the last Sherlock promotional blitz, it was pretty much The Jude & Robert Show, with their bromance flourishing on every red carpet. Last night, Robert Downey Jr. just posed with his lovely, pregnant wife Susan, and they looked lovely together.

But the person I was really interested in was Noomi Rapace, otherwise known as “The Original Lisbeth Salander” in the Swedish films of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and the rest of the Millennium Trilogy. Noomi got a lot of attention from Hollywood with her portrayal of Lisbeth, and it’s possible for her to have a big career in English-language films now. Her performance in Sherlock Holmes 2 is seen as sort-of the canary in the coal mine – if she does well, and the film does well, Noomi has arrived. So this was a big red carpet for her – and I can’t say that I’m impressed. Noomi wore this Valentino that… it’s just not young enough. It’s too lacy and precious for my tastes, and then there’s the issue of her hair, which doesn‘t match the “glamour” of the dress. I just don’t want to start in about what is happening with those bangs. She has a beautiful face, and she doesn’t need them. Urgh!!!

Also in attendance – Rachel McAdams, wearing this Marchesa gown. I like the Marchesa better than Noomi’s Valentino, which speaks volumes about how much I hate Noomi’s dress, but isn’t necessarily a compliment for Rachel’s dress. I will give Rachel credit for this, though – she looks season-appropriate. I like that she’s wearing a long-sleeved winter dress in December. Otherwise, meh.

Kate Beckinsale & Rachel McAdams are bitch-fighting over Michael Sheen

wenn3337844

Last week, LaineyGossip talked about the activities of Michael Sheen, his ex Kate Beckinsale, and his current squeeze, Rachel McAdams. Oh, and Kate and Michael’s daughter, Lily. Michael and his girls were in Toronto, where I believe Michael and Rachel have made their home base, and where Kate brought Lily so that they could all go to the Canadian premiere of Harry Potter. To see those photos, go here. Kate and Michael have always struck me as the best kind of joint-parents. Both seem to actively spend a lot of time with Lily, and it’s always seemed to me that Kate and Michael still get along pretty well in general. Didn’t Kate dump him for her current husband, Len Wiseman? I believe there was some overlap.

Anyway, I’m kind of surprised it took the tabloids so long to create a controversy between Michael’s ex and his current, but better late than never. According to In Touch, Kate Beckinsale kind of hates Rachel McAdams:

He’s the king of schlub, but actor Michael Sheen, 42, has two Hollywood beauties fighting over him! Living with Kate Beckinsale, 38, from 1995 to 2003, the exes have been peacefully sharing custody of their daughter, Lily, 12, for the last eight years. But even though Kate has been married to director Len Wiseman, 38, since 2004, she’s got her claws out when it comes to Michael’s new love, Rachel McAdams, 32.

“Rachel and Kate make a point to avoid each other, and it seems like it’s Kate who’s the resistant one,” says an insider, though her rep denies it.

Just recently, Michael brought Lily to Kate’s hotel to spend the night, and Rachel was left steaming outside of the hotel!

“She couldn’t even go upstairs or inside with him,” reveals the source. And on July 17, he left Rachel home so he could bring Lily – and Kate – to the Canadian premiere of Harry Potter.

“There are opportunities where Michael could bring Rachel along, but he doesn’t,” says the insider.

[From In Touch Weekly, print edition]

Part of me thinks it’s true just because Kate seems like that kind of woman – the kind of woman who “trades up” from a character actor boyfriend to a Hollywood director, then still wants her ex to be hung up on her and acts pissy to whoever he dates. But I’m going to give Kate the benefit of the doubt here – I think she and Michael just focus on being good parents to Lily, and maybe that ongoing relationship – because of their child – is rubbing Rachel the wrong way? I don’t know. I don’t see Rachel as the kind of person who would get pissy about it either. She and Michael seem genuinely loved up. And maybe THAT is what’s pissing off Kate. That her ex found professional success and a cute, younger girlfriend after Kate dumped him.

Michael Sheen & Rachel McAdams aren’t afraid to gush about their love

wenn3335303

Michael Sheen and Rachel McAdams made their red carpet debut as a couple at the Cannes Film Festival, for their film Midnight in Paris. Since then, Rachel and Michael have done the red carpet thing together a few extra times. They’ve been going out for a little less than a year, and it’s been looking like true love for a while. It’s always nice when a dude talks about it, though. Which is what’s happened as Michael does press for Midnight in Paris. He’s not playing any games, he’s not even doing the “no comment” thing. He’s confirmed to several outlets that he and Rachel are a couple, and he goes even further by talking about how he thinks Rachel is the most awesome person he’s ever met:

How could they not fall in love? Real-life loves Michael Sheen and Rachel McAdams got acquainted while making the Woody Allen film Midnight in Paris in France’s iconic City of Light.

The British actor, 42, gushed to Us Weekly about the experience at a Cinema Society screening for the movie in NYC hosted by Thierry Mugler.

“It was the three of us: myself, Rachel, and [actress] Nina Arianda, who plays my wife in the film,” Sheen said. “We spent our nights really laughing, and walking around Paris, Notre Dame is my favorite spot, and having great meals. It was a great way to get to know anyone.”

The duo paired up onscreen again for a still-untitled flick from acclaimed director Terrence Malick — shooting in Louisiana.

“We love going to little diners, out of the way places, so we found some great little spots out in Louisiana,” Sheen explained. “My favorite meal is breakfast!”

Sheen would “absolutely” like to work with her again. “She’s absolutely amazing,” he gushed. “A fantastic actress.”

Offscreen? “She’s the most wonderful person I know. We got to know each other on set [in Paris], it was an amazing time. We’ve been a couple for a while now.”

[From Us Weekly]

Aw… he’s so sweet. It’s refreshing, isn’t it? They’re just a nice couple who met and fell in love and they don’t even feel the need to hide it away (coughGOOPcough). Personally, I see these two getting married. I see them having babies. I see it lasting too.

So has Michael proposed yet? Page Six had a piece that included quotes from Michael and Rachel, and it sounds like he hasn’t given her a ring… YET. Page Six notes that Rachel was wearing a large diamond ring on her left hand, but when asked about it, she said, “No, it’s not an engagement ring… I’ll have to talk to Michael!” Meanwhile, Michael is about to do Hamlet in London. Will his beloved join him there? I suspect so.

Why is Rachel McAdams doing the tired Marilyn Monroe thing?

midnigh_in_paris_21_wenn3348194

I hate to say it, but I beginning to think that Rachel McAdams has significant style problems. I’ve been in denial about it for a long time, but her tacky-ass style on full display at the Cannes Film Festival, and now she’s brought it stateside. These are photos from last night’s NYC screening of Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. Rachel managed to make this Louis Vuitton dress look like a pageant gown. And she was all done up in some kind of homage to Marilyn Monroe too, what with the shorter blonde curls, the near wardrobe malfunction in the wind. I would have thought Rachel is more original than a cheap Marilyn homage.

midnigh_in_paris_05_wenn3348209

Sure, I guess the dress isn’t really BAD (although I don’t think it’s good either). It’s certainly better than the ice-skater’s Marchesa and that hideous beige thing that I want to forget. But here’s my theory for young Hollywood celebrity women: The Marilyn thing is so overdone, over-played and tired. It’s the styling choice of last resort for ladies who view themselves as some sort of deep, tragic blonde bombshell. Considering Rachel isn’t even known as a blonde, her style choices just frighten me at this point. Do you think Michael Sheen prefers her as blonde?

You want to see something even worse though? Here you go.

Rachel McAdams vs. Diane Kruger: which blonde looked better?

wenn3337832

These are photos from last night’s premiere of Sleeping Beauty in Cannes. I’m too lazy to look up the movie or tell you anything about it (meh), mostly because I just want to talk about fashion and cute couples. First up: Diane Kruger and her lover Joshua Jackson. Now, you know I love Josh. He’s adorable. And you know he just gives in and lets his girl dress him. So I’m not sure who to bash for his shoe choice. Were those kicks Josh’s call, or Diane’s? One of them should have vetoed it. Dress shoes for the Cannes red carpet, please. As for Diane, she wore this metallic Calvin Klein that looks like they just poured liquid gold onto her body (a la Goldfinger). You can even tell that the bitch isn’t wearing (nor does she NEED to wear) Spanx. Amazing. So, beautiful couple, and my only complaint is about his shoes.

wenn3337848

wenn3337989

wenn3337816

Next up, Rachel McAdams walked the red carpet arm-in-arm, hand-in-hand with her lover Michael Sheen. On another day, they might have been heady competition for Josh and Diane, but not this event. Because for this event, Rachel went with one of the trashiest looks I’ve ever seen on her. It’s some kind of God-awful jumpsuit/pants/bustier combo by Monique Lhuillier. In a hideous beige/nude that does nothing for Rachel’s coloring. Of course, Rachel’s coloring isn’t being helped by the fact that her hair is bleached to infinity and beyond, and it looks like a cheap bleach job too. She looks so… budget. And yes, she and Michael look adorable together, but I also think he’s kind of like “Seriously, even I, Welsh Jesus, know that you could do better, babe.”

wenn3337847

wenn3337849

wenn3337707

But do you know who looked even worse than everybody put together? Bryce Dallas Howard. WHY WOULD YOU WEAR THIS TO CANNES?!?!? I think she’s pregnant (?) but that’s not an excuse to wear an oversized SMOCK.
